Puertollano to subsidise travel costs for Italian Citizens on Il Deserderio

The Bolivarian Republic of Puertollano has announced it will subsidise the price of plane and boat travel for Italian Dual-Citizens on the island of Il Deserderio to go back to Italy. The Foreign Affairs Minister told the media and the residents of the island during a press conference, stating this is a measure of 'good-will between the Bolivarian Republic and the Italian residents of Il Deserderio'. This subsidisation will allow all residents, as long as they are Italian or Italian dual-citizens, to leave Il Deserderio without cost. 'If you're upset with the liberation of the Caribbean, this is your time to leave in peace,' the Foreign Affairs Minister quoted. There is expected increased emigration due to these measures and the Bolivarian Republic is hoping this will also help the fragile relationship between Italy and Puertollano. Relations have been shattered in recent times and experts have said Puertollano rarely acts out of its' own pocket like this for another foreign power. However, it should be noted, similar gifts were given to those impacted by the Caribbean War who had French-dual citizenship (who is every person on Il Deserderio). 'Make peace, not war,' the Foreign Affairs Minister concluded before finishing the press conference.

Population of La Desirade refuses to leave. Claim an unsustainable amount of Puertolloan People arriving on the island to sway vote

Despite begin attacked by missiles, and now under the rule of what can be considered a hostile government to some, the 1,532 people of La Desirade are refusing to leave the island and are demanding separation from Puertollano by their own vote instead of it being tied to the much larger ABC islands. Many of the people on La Desirade have family lines tracing all the way back to the founding of the small colony back in the 18th century. The municipality of Beauséjour, the biggest and only real town on the island, claims that the liberation of the island is a farce since there are no native people's on the island and it has been French and Italian owned for several centuries. Further still they are saying the Puertollano government is attempting to fill the island with "thousands" of Puertollano people despite the fact the island cannot support such a large number of people. The claim is they are doing this to swing the vote but with only two villages on the island, Beauséjour and the small bayside town of Anse de Galets, it would severely stress the population limit of the island.

Most of the population seems to be advocating for a full return to the French dominion, citing the island had no issues until Italy took it over. Some of the new arrivals want to return to Italy but many just seem to want out of the unpleasant situation they have found themselves in.

Meanwhile on the ABC Islands, most of the Afro Caribbean community wants to stay with Puertollano. This is due to two major factors. 1. The Europeans actions during the Nigerian War, especially Germany's bombing of Benin and 2. Because of the non-stop feed of Telesur coming into the nation that many of the population is finding themselves agreeing with.

FSR to accept Nigerian refugees

In wake of the utter collapse of the ICN there has been a huge influx of Nigerian refugees, though the FSR wasn't affected by it for the most part. Surprisingly, today the Assembly voted on a resolution on how to act with the refugee situation.

While during the previous Nigerian civil war Andea debated on accepting refugees or not, in the end, nothing came out of it. A similar situation arose in Orostan. In striking contrast, the Assembly voted on that no upper-limit to be placed for annual refugee quotas. It's possible that this may be due to the Orostani-Zackarothian Missile Crisis, in which ten million Orostani civilians tragically died. This seems to tie in with the FSR's policy on integrating and naturalizing the refugees. Another possibility is that the move is to ease the burden of the NRSA's refugee crisis, which has pressured the resources of the new state. Relatedly, charity organizations to support the NRSA have also been gaining traction within the FSR.

The new policy has left many concerned with potentially bringing in an HNA or ICN agent disguised as refugees. While everybody will be vetted prior, there's still the possibility that somebody could get through the cracks. The police had stayed fairly quiet on whether they plan to take further measures to monitor refugee. However, on the flip side, the HNA and ICN have for the most part stayed domestically, even not retaliating against the French mainland surprisingly enough.

There had been a debate on whether refugees should be taught in Interlingua or be taught the language native to their area. While the number of Interlingua speakers have been increasing especially among students most people still use either Spanish or Portuguese in everyday conversations. However, many already have at least a basic-proficiency of the language with society shifting towards Interlingua, such as with street signs, stores and other parts of everyday life. There has also been a loud but vocal minority of Castilloists, who advocate for the FSR should embrace multiple indigenous languages rather than utilizing a European-based language. In the end, the debate ended with Interlingua being chosen as the language of choice for future refugees.

Once devastated by foreign incursion, Port Harcourt is seeing
a renewed business and population boom

CANBERRA - With nearly 2 to 3 million casualties, a destroyed economy, broken government, dozens of factions and impending terrorist acts, it can be noted that Nigeria is a country that has been utterly decimated by both internal and external forces. With a possible end in sight, Australia is more joyous than ever, having incurred at least 760 casualties, with 82 Australian personnel sacrificing their lives in Nigeria. However the next question is whether Australia will end swiftly its participation in Nigeria or look forward to maintaining a strong Nigerian territory.
In the few month before the fall of the HNA, the cities of Warri and Port Harcourt were secured by Australian forces and over time a de facto recognition of Benin City, with Puertollano, as part of the TACT or The Australian Controlled Territory, the mentioned city states declared their intentions of merging with the NSRA. A referendum occurred, with the NSRA claiming the territory as their own though Australian troops were the dominant security force. The referendum results were however kept on hold due to terrorist attacks all over the country particularly in nearby Lagos. This and the blatant bombing of CSN forces on Benin put more and more refugees into the TACT as fear of CSN air raids grew.

With an increase in refugees, the Australian government and Army were fast to address issues on food, medicine and security. This enabled a stable system of governance to emerge from within the TACT as the Australian Army slowly reduced its grip on personal liberties as the frontlines moved farther north. Increased local and Australian cooperation enabled many areas in the TACT to avail electricity, water facilities, transportation systems and a small form of governance brought about by appointed local leaders.

Life was better improved under Australian rule with the invitation of the Australian Army for local Nigerians to actively join the new local government units being established to overlook schools, health services, communication and transportation systems,as well as the increase ambitious plan to begin opening businesses, trade routes and local markets.

It became clearer that more and more citizens under TACT areas were more likely to be better off than the rest of Nigeria. And it became more common for those in the TACT to be thankful of Australian support. However, after the NSRA elections divided the NSRA government into pro-FSR and pro-Australian factions, most people in the TACT, who were pro-NPP, saw that a shift to the NSRA would see the end of their new gained prosperity.

As Australian forces moved north, media coverage was sent back to areas in the TACT to TV sets with images of brutality and death not seen since the fall of Warri. This and the increasing influence and support of Australia to the TACT has sparked calls of the TACT cities to become a protectorate of Australia. A call many in Canberra are divided among.

In an astonishing survey of 400 people, 73% of respondents were interested in making the TACT a protectorate. What is more surprising is that this has actually helped increase slightly PM Turnbull's trust ratings by 5 points, from 14% to 19%. Though small, it is widely considered that these events in Nigeria can alter the course of Australian politics with every success and failure.

Warri, Benin, and Port Harucourt axe deal with NSRA, to become an official Australian Protectorate

The Three Cities as they are now commonly refereed to have decided to to cancel the deal with the NSRA and instead have agreed to sign protectorate agreement with Australia. The move comes after much uncertainty plagues the NSRA as only a few days ago did the country agree to run a special election to choose a new president. Both Port Harucourt and Warri voted to join a Protectorate pact. Benin did as well but it was an extremely contentious vote, as Benin had been receiving a massive amount of aid from both the NSRA/FSR/Puertollano and Australia. The vote is purported to have been decided by one vote. It is clear in the future, the city may decide to try and vote itself out of the protectorate and rejoin the NSRA.

National Canadian Navy deploys a Subcraft Task Group to Eastern Japan!
June 20th, 2020
For he first time since the Calin Civil War, Canadian Forces have been deployed to fight in a foreign land.

As of today, a small force of Canadian Subcrafts have been deployed to assist the Australians in the blockade of Japan. Specifically, the Eastern side. [OOC: the fleet consists of 3 Light Carriers, 5 Light Cruisers and 1 Heavy Cruiser, however that's not mentioned or displayed in the news post.] Led by Rear Admiral Henry Oliver, this is the first time since the Calin Civil War that Canadian Forces have been deployed to fight in foreign land, and the first time in history that we may ever see Subcraft vs Subcraft combat. According to Rear Admiral Oliver, the National Canadian Naval Forces has been "Training to engage with surface and other subcraft fleets ever since the Subcraft Fleet was first born." It's unknown whether or not the Subcraft Fleet will be capable of contending with the colossal Japanese Subcraft Fleet, however if they prove capable of doing so, it's widely believed that it would be another David and Goliath Scenario that will go down in the history books. Either way, the HDI wishes them luck in their campaign.

NAF Subcraft Fleet Established!
June 16th, 2020
For a long time, only the Canadians had such a fleet within the NAF. Now, it appears that the NAF government is building their own fleet.

The National Canadian Navy thus far has the only Subcraft Fleet in the North American Federation, and the only Subcraft Fleet which can currently hope to contend with even that of the Japanese Subcraft Fleet, however as of recently, the North American Federation has officially made a contract with Canadian Waves and began inviting National Canadian Naval Officers to help set the NAF up with their own Subcraft Fleet. As of right now they're ordering the construction of 40 Light Sub-Cruisers, 10 Heavy Sub-Cruisers and 12 Light Carriers, and several businesses throughout the Federation are joining in Collaboration with Canadian Waves to increase production and further innovation. It's believed soon that the other Republics of the NAF will later follow in Canada's footsteps and establish their own Subcraft Fleets and expand on the industry as well.

Shooter attempts to kill president Gelmini during election campaign speech- shooter still at large

President Mariastella Gelmini is recovering in hospital after a bullet hit her shoulder during a speech in Naples today. As part of her election campaign for Forza Italia Mariastella Gelmini has been travelling to traditionally left-leaning areas of the country to speak to locals and attempt to convince them of Forza Italia's policies.

Approximately half-way through her speech at a conference centre in a residential area of Naples several loud bangs were heard and president Gelmini was quickly taken into cover by security services. Emergency services arrived on the scene within a minute and the president was rushed into an ambulance, where a government spokesperson announced that the president had been shot in the shoulder but that her injuries were not critical and that she is recovering after surgery to remove the bullet.

As the shooter managed to escape the conference room and disappeared into the busy streets of Naples, emergency investigative powers have been authorised by central government, meaning the COC will now begin the mass-monitoring of communications and video and audio surveillance in Naples and further afield if necessary.

After the Absolute Gun Ban was implemented all guns were banned for civilian use or ownership, excluding farmers, who are allowed to own a single bolt-action rifle, meaning that the suspected shooter likely smuggled the weapon into Italy from abroad as multiple shots were fired without a long period between each shot which would suggest a bolt-action rifle. Forensics teams are examining the bullets that were fired in order to determine the type of gun used which could help with the investigation into who the perpetrator of the attack was.

The presidents spokesperson has said that Mariastella Gelmini's injuries will not effect her election campaign, and she will still be running for president.

’Anti-Imperialist’ military academy established in Puertollano

The Bolivarian Military Academy of South America has been inaugurated officially by the President of Puertollano outside Caracas today. The Academy finished construction after it received officially approval early in the Presidency of Castillo. Several high level military officers from the National Bolivarian Armed Forces of Puertollano (such as High General Hugo Chavez) and President Castillo were present during the ceremony, in which there was a small parade of the enthusiastic soldiers. As always, Castillo gave a speech to the soldiers and audience, who had come to watch the opening. “Simon Bolivar is looking at us from the clouds, smiling,” Castillo said, even though he does not believe in Heaven. “We are re-structuring the order of the world, we’re giving a voice to the voiceless. We are the counter balance against imperialism.” The structure of the organisation is very similar to the American ‘School of the America’s’, but the Bolivarian Military Academy of South America is seen to be a counter to that organisation. Reporters were allowed to enter the unused halls of buildings on the day, and decals of Che Guevara, Salvador Allende, Fidel Castro and Nicolo Castillo were found on the walls. High General Hugo Chavez summarised the purpose of the military academy in saying: “it is a tool of military and political use. We can teach our next generations of soldiers to be unrelenting fighters, yet be totally convinced of the values of peace, equality and anti-imperialism.” So far only Puertollanoans have joined the academy, but it is open to the FNI, NSRA, Galicia and the FSR.

The National Assembly has passed the debated Shanghai Law yesterday. The law covered the transportation of goods between Chinese ports. Restriction it to vessels built in china, crewed by Chinese merchant officers, and be manned by 80% national Chinese. National Assembly debating intervention into Japanese civil war

The National Assembly has for the past week been debating on the intervention into the Civil war raging in Japan. While the ruling PFC party wishes to generally stay out of it, much of the other party's and many citizens have been calling for us to assist. Many fear the return of an militaristic japan, fearing future conflict and have been calling for an early intervention. President Ching‑te has mention on returning the assistance given during our own civil war but has been held back by the Assembly. The derision has been said to be reached soon but no one knows on that.

The Daily Toss claims Puertollano workers are sexually assaulting women in ZAC. Independent investigations find no evidence. Early polling shows Akram two points ahead of Abdullah

The Daily Toss today leveled extraordinary claims that Puertollano workers within the ZAC are taking advantage of poor women and sexually assaulting them. The article went into great detail including eyewitness accounts a survivor's interview. This apparently enraged a large sector of the Zackarothian and ZAC citizenship until it was brought to light that no such reports exist nor are their any eyewitnesses with the names provided. When pressed for sources The Daily Toss refused to give out names and claimed the Akram government is covering up the affair.

The Daily Toss is a news website that went live around the same time as High Leader Abdullah took office. The website is believed to be funded by his supporter and has thrown its weight to support him in the upcoming election. While most news sources in Zackaroth hold no real party affiliation or support one candidate, The Daily Toss bucks this trends and regularly released what some consider biased news.

In other news, Al Jazeera had conducted its first official poll over the race for the High Leader. Right now Akram is leading Abdullah by two points but the race is still very close. The results of this poll should not be taken as fact however. Abdullah was actually thought to have been behind his ZPP opponent in the 2016 election but won very handily instead.

Australia declares war on the Empire of Japan
June 26 | Roger Peterson

Australia now enters into war. Will years of peace and prosperity end
or will it usher a new page of Australia's rise to global importance?

CANBERRA - Just hours after the fall of the last Japanese monarchist factions in Kyoto, Australia's Legislature House has officially declared war on the Empire of Japan. This comes as a surprise as Australia has been more seen as always avoiding war and unnecessary conflict, however tensions have risen since the Australian Navy blockaded Japan's southern-southeastern sea lanes with the help of Canadian forces in tow. In a brief press conference the House Speaker was able to let media get a glimpse of some parts of the official document:
"Imperial Japan has shown to the world and to the Japanese people that it is incapable of rule brought about by the rising starvation and killing of the Japanese people. Therefore it is necessary for Australia and other powers who share a goal of establishing peace in this part of the world to come to the aid of the Japanese people under threat to the Japanese Empire"

Reports have also arrived that the navy fleets have been combined into a 'grand fleet' and have already commenced its attack.

Other than declaring a state of war against the Empire of Japan, the government has also stated that it will help support the New Orbanis forces with food, water, oil and other supplies to continue operations against the common foe. It is widely suggested that one route these transport ships carrying will take in order to bring supplies is to come from China, protected by neutral waters and a formidable Asian power, going towards South Korean waters and Jeju Island and crossing the Korean strait towards New Orbanis territory. These transports will be heavily guarded by drones and fighter escorts coming from bases in China. This is just one of several hundred routes Australian carrying supply ships will take in order to supply New Orbanis.

|| 2nd Pacific Fleet command established in Maupiti to overlook remaining Pacific fleet destroyers activities in the Pacific || Army begins mobilization of soldiers, expecting 300,000 troops and reservists by end of June || ACHEUS takes leading role in arms production || MDS-1 and MDS-2A defense systems in Northern Australia put into full alert || Balabac Island population being evacuated to the Philippines and Malaysia, leaving only 20,000 Australian troops || Australia to supply New Orbanis with 1 month worth of food and oil through Australian National Line ships (20 cargo ships)

Masaryk's State of The Union Address - DEU Summit in Warsaw
20 June 2020
Image
President Oleg Masaryk of the Egalitarianist Polish party (Polska Zjednoczona jako Jedna), winner of the most recent
presidential election, on his recent speech in Warsaw.

On the 20th of June, the newly inaugurated president of the Polish states, the Slovak national Oleg Masaryk, delivered his first ever State of the Union address at the House of Representatives in Warsaw. President Masaryk tackled various topics, including the disarmament of the nuclear weapons handled by the Polish military.

Recently, a senior executive official told Calska Gazeta reporters that "He [President Oleg Masaryk] will talk about the various problems of the union and hopefully gather popular support for his campaign promises benefiting the citizens of the states and it will be very forward looking." The official said that the theme of Masaryk's speech would be "recreating an equal, safe, and wealthy Eastern European power." Five major issues were discussed by the president: the economy, infrastructure, industry, foreign affairs, and the fight against crime. Secretary of State Iwon Pasciak and Vice President Kwiatosław Gawronski took the lead in writing the speech.

Masaryk called on Congress to support a plan to spend $35 Billion on rebuilding infrastructure and roads in major metropolitan areas damaged from recent conflicts across the country, employing 300,000 unemployed citizens to rebuild the nation, while an additional 150,000 citizens to work in established military and commercial plants, and mines for exporting purposes. Masaryk also emphasized on regaining friendly relations with the rest of the world, especially DEU members such as the German Union. To reestablish relations with DEU members, the states will be hosting a DEU summit in Warsaw by december and all DEU member states are encouraged to come.

While on the topic of foreign affairs, Oleg Masaryk also ordered an intervention against the fascists in the region of Japan a few days ago and talked to the government of Australia to establish a special non-aggression pact. The president sent passenger AC-130's carrying 5,000 special forces and 25,000 medical servicemen to the Shanghai airbase, while an additional 75,000 armed forces carried in naval vessels along with the 4th Polish fleet are also en route to the Japanese area.

Indigenous activists arrive in FSR

Some high profile members from President Castillo's Movement Towards Socialism party have arrived in the Federation of Socialist Republics ahead of public forum on indigenous right's and environmental activism. It has been a hot button issue in the Bolivarian Republic as to how to approach their neighbour, although a strong ally, on the destruction of native lands and the displacement of indigenous peoples. They were bid farewell by Castillo by leaving, along with a large crowd of fellow supporters. When they arrive in the FSR, they will be meeting with a few members of the People's Assembly, and they have sent a petition of the new President of the Orostani FSR; Higashi. After that, the protesters will be involved in non-violent rallies across the nation and fundraising efforts to help displaced indigenous peoples. The Indigenous People's Liberation Organisation, an native-focused civil right's group based in Puertollano, has also been involved. They are claiming that the NIB (National Industrial Board) is not taking into account the historical roots of the land they bulldoze for economic development and are advocating for the implementation of regulations on the destruction and displacement of these indigenous peoples.

North American Federation declares war on the Empire of Japan!
July 13th, 2020
Music, marches and cheers are heard throughout Canada following the declaration of war.

After months of Japan tearing itself apart in brutal civil war, the North American Federation has declared war on the Empire of Japan and its support for New Orbanis. Many North Americans throughout the Federation began volunteering for the North American Armed-Forces, and many North American people, especially the Canadians, support the declaration of war. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers are being mobilized, the Pacific Fleets are being mobilized, and the National Canadian Navy is mobilizing their Sub-Fleets to contend with the Empire of Japan's Sub-Fleets. Though the Canadian Sub-Fleet is far from complete and has under 40 Subcrafts as of right now, it's expected that with recent trade deals and agreements and further industrial focus, their numbers will rise dramatically. For the first time since the 1940s, a North American power has declared war on Japan.

Canadian Waves-TransGen Agreement
July 10th, 2020
The Canadian Waves & TransGen Ship building companies have signed a contract with one another.

As of today, Canadian Waves and the Australian Ship building company TransGen has recently signed a contract stating that they would further support each other in mass producing Subcrafts and Subfighters for the war effort. Patents and Schematics are being shared, both are making plans and both are investing and planning to innovate collaboratively in order to push such efforts. The plans that they make and the innovations they plan on focusing on will not be revealed to the public, however one thing can be expected and that's that it can only help enlarge the North American-Australian SubCraft fleets and make them more effective at the very same time.

CASTILLO VERSUS THE TANKS

Nicolo Castillo, the President of Puertollano and an ally to the FSR, has recently seen off a group of activists to the Federation. They are coming to Leticia in support of Native rights, and in protest of the historic Orostani policy of generally ignoring Native rights. Historically, Native settlements have been bulldozed to make way for railways and industrial development schemes. Native resistance would be met with tanks and troops from the Orostani military. Unable to protest due to their under representation in the Orostani Assembly of Labor, they often left the country for Puertollano. The National Industrial Board when asked for comment stated that "The National Industrial Board does not comment on political issues."

Higashi has greeted and talked to several of the activists, as have some other notable members of the CPFSR and some of the revisionist Socialist party membership. He stated in an interview with Radio Brasilia that Native rights legislation is "On my desk under the government reform." Higashi also promised to meet with the Puertollan activists and listen to their suggestions for Native rights reform. It is generally acknowledged in Orostan that Puertollano is ahead of Orostan and the FSR in the Native rights department. If this is good for socialist democracy or bad is debated.

“It is difficult for me to imagine what “personal liberty” is enjoyed by an unemployed hungry person. True freedom can only be where there is no exploitation and oppression of one person by another; where there is not unemployment, and where a person is not living in fear of losing his job, his home and his bread. Only in such a society personal and any other freedom can exist for real and not on paper.” -J. V. STALIN

Like the Councils of Old: Athens Calls for an Ecumenical Council!

Image

In the year 325 AD, the esteemed Roman Emperor Constantine I called for an ecumenical council to be held in the Anatolian city of Nicaea. It was a gathering of various clergymen across the Empire, with the ambition of sorting out the doctrinal differences, setting up dates for religious holidays and festivals. It is still considered one of the most important events in the history of Christianity, and in the history of Eastern Rome. Although, the following councils were failures in their own right, and led to the eventual decentralisation of the Orthodox Church and, within the realm of argument, to the split of the Eastern Orthodoxy and the Roman Catholicism, it is still inspiring to look back at this council in history.

It has been nearly 1700 years since that first council, and nearly 1000 years since the Great Schism. As time progressed, the Orthodox faith, its Church and its position within the society has changed. Secularism came to be, and the Church lost its influence over the earthly affairs. Still though, an important majority in Eastern Europe and in the broader world sees the Orthodox Church as its place of belonging. As such, the church organisation must adapt to the needs of the times. For this goal, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Athens has called for a new council in Athens, in order to reach a common doctrine, fitted to the modern needs; and to reorganise the Orthodox Church into a more efficient and interconnected organisation.

All Patriarchs, Archbishops and Bishops of the Orthodox Church around the world are invited, and their expenses are to be covered by the Patriarchate of Athens. The guests of honour, the most important of all guests, are listed as below,

Archbishop of Thessaloniki
Patriarch of Alexandria
Patriarch of Antioch
Patriarch of Jerusalem
Patriarch of Serbia
Patriarch of Bulgaria
Patriarch of Romania
Patriarch of Albania
Patriarch of Moscow
Patriarch of Kiev
Patriarch of Georgia

The council is expected to last two weeks at maximum, with at least five different committees discussing minor issues, and frequent meetings for major issues, which will require the attendance of every guest.

The Fregantese Government was in support of this call for a council, as the Minister of Culture put it: « This is our chance to promote Athens as a cultural hub, adding a new star to its already rising reputation in terms of diplomacy and commerce. ». In the Senate, however, long debates raged on, as many senators argued that a government involvement in such a council would undermine the secular fabric of state. At the end though, the influence of the Academic Party won out, and the last opposing speeches were cut by the words of the Empress herself: « Laissez-faire! Hasn’t this been our main policy since the beginning? Let them have their council »

The clock ticks, as Athens waits for the arrival of guests.
"Long live the legacy of the Roman Empire!"

NSP once again wins presidency in emergency election. NSR finally has a leader again

After weeks of uncertainty, the NSR finally has a leader once more. An emergency election was held and once more the NSP has taken center stage. Adedamola Ali, brother to the former president stepped up and ran. Labled as more extreme then his brother by his critics, Ali has promised to thrust the NSR into a postion of power, both on the world stage and in Africa itself. He has been privately inaugurated due to security concerns and is said to be already hard at work on formulating a strategy to help the fledgling nation.

Two executive orders have already been passed, one barring anymore refugees from entering the NSR and the other promoting military build up. Ali has been quoted as saying that the time to take in more refugees from the other parts of Nigeria is over. There is too many security concerns and too mmany risks involved after the botched destruction of the ICN by the Europeans. He also supported his order for a new military build up, stating that he does not trust the West to keep its end of the deal, especially after the defection of the Three Cities and expects another skirmish to break out soon. There have also been rumors Ali secretly supports gaining WMDs but this is not confirmed but could be worrying for other nations.

Now however, the NSR has a strong leader, effectively ending the last major issue of the Nigerian Civil War.

Adebayo Ali wins Nigerian emergency elections, starts Five Year Plan

Image
Image
Lagos the largest city in Africa
is plagued with income inequality

The Nigerian Socialist Republic was stuck at a standstill following the death of former president Adebayo Ali. With the NRS stuck without executive leadership, the People's Assembly of Nigeria finally approved a set of emergency elections, which ended with Adedamola Ali assuming office as president. In his inauguration address, Ali admitted to the poor state of affairs within the NRS. "We are decades behind the developed countries. Either we must progress, or we will perish."

The NSR's First Five Year Plan was enacted soon afterward, with the goal of quickly moving the country towards an industrial based economy. In addition, the agricultural sector would be mechanized, which is expected to improve the efficiency of farming and freeing up many workers to work in other fields, as agriculture currently employs over a third of the workforce. However, there were several issues which currently plagued the NSR which would have to be dealt with first. In order to help the NSR achieve its goals, the FSR agreed to sell the NSR agricultural and industrial machinery at discounted rates until 2025 and to send over more advisers to the new country.

Although the Five Year Plan publically makes an emphasis on industrialization, in reality, the most vital part of the plan would be to improve the tax collection system. Even before the civil war, tax evasion was rampant, so much so that Nigeria before the civil war had a tax to GDP ratio of 6.1%, which is likely even lower nowadays. To fix the issue, the Central Revenue Service was created to take charge of collecting taxes and enforcing tax laws. The tax code was also reformed in the aims of making it fairer and the CRS would offer a return-free filing service. In addition, amnesty was granted for anybody who failed to pay their taxes prior to the reforms. However, in the future, the CRS would be authorized to crack down on tax-evaders. At the same time, the NRS would launch a major campaign to convince Nigerians to pay taxes.

The second most important thing would be to improve the transport infrastructure. The collapsing rail network has led to overwhelming pressure being exerted to the roads, which too were in a horrid state, leading to increased transportation costs and the highest number of traffic accidents in Africa. The repair and expansion of the road and rail infrastructure were to be a key priority in the Five Year Plan. The public transportation infrastructure was also set to be completely revamped in order to reduce traffic congestion. At first, Lagos would receive most of the funds for expansion of public transportation, due to it having daily traffic jams lasting hours. By the end of the revamp, Lagos was to have an extensive system of bus rapid transit, ferries, and a metro system. The capabilities of traffic enforcement would also be increased, including adding more traffic lights and stop signs.

Alongside with improving the transportation, improving the energy infrastructure would be tied in importance. As with most of urbanized Nigeria, the NRS had access to electricity, though it wasn't particularly reliable. Thus, many people resorted to personal generators for when power outages occurred, polluting the already polluted country. To help alleviate the situation, the NSR would replace its electrical grid with a 'smart grid,' which would allow for lesser long-term costs and to quickly identify where an outage was occurring. However, the main problem was that the NSR's electrical output was insufficient. Even before the First Nigerian Civil War electrical output had been steadily declining since the mid-2000s. The NSR would embark on a project on increasing its electrical production, though the flagship of the energy project would be the construction of a nuclear power station with aid from the FSR. The station would have a capacity of eight thousand megawatts, which once built would allow for the NSR to become an electricity exporter. A permanent nuclear-waste repository would also be built to allow for the safe disposal of future nuclear waste.

Next up was the improvisation of the educational system. In order to ease stress from overpopulation on current facilities, new schools and universities would be constructed, and some of the existing ones would be renovated. A drive to recruit and train more teachers would also be conducted, and wages for teaching jobs would be increased to encourage more to enter the field. The state would also pay to increase the availability of school supplies such as textbooks, and also to provide lunch in schools. Classroom, an open-source classroom management tool originally developed for schools in Andea would also be integrated into the NSR schooling system. However, simply aiding schools would not completely solve the educational issue. Due to civil war, many would-be-students haven't been going to school, especially among child refugees. However, as of today, a one week grace period would be given for all school-aged children to start returning to school, afterward truancy officers would start getting involved. Within the NRS there were also many languages and dialects spoken, though English was the official language. In an attempt to allow for easier communication throughout the country, the NSR would embark on a 'transition' to English starting with the educational system, akin to what the FSR did with Interlingua. All students in the NSR would also be required to take at least one foreign language course, with Interlingua being a required course. Internet access was also an issue. Though much higher in the NSR than most of Nigeria, there was still many who didn't have access to the internet, especially in rural areas. Thus, the NSR would start a campaign to 'connect' the country with broadband internet and mobile networks, which would help bring the country to the modern age.

The healthcare system would also need to be improved. Although the NSR inherited what's likely the best healthcare system within Nigeria, it's still abysmal when compared to the global standard with an expected lifespan of 53 years. Part of the problem was the low rate of vaccination, with only 60% of the populace vaccinated prior to the civil war. In an attempt to bring up the rate to at least 95%, a policy of compulsory immunization was enacted, which would have the full support from hospitals of the FSR and also aid from charities. Ali said that the new policy was "to ensure our safety from the refugees who have had no real medical care for years" and reminded people about the anthrax attacks which happened not too long ago. Special classes would also be held in schools to teach students regarding what vaccines are. Relatedly, law enforcement would also crack down on open defecation, a common though unsanitary practice in the NRS which has also led to the deaths of many due to infection.

Another major issue with the NSR was the housing crisis, which existed even before the civil war. The lack of housing led to the appearance of slums, which was further exacerbated by the arrival of refugees from the civil war. It has gotten so bad that some have even started to look at reusing shipping containers as homes. The solution which the NSR chose was to start a large-scale house construction project. Using modular construction techniques and cookie-cutter designs, houses and apartment blocks would be mass-produced in factories. Due to this, some have compared the houses to the Soviet Khrushchyovkas, something which the NRS heavily denied, pointing out that unlike their Soviet counterparts the new NSR built ones wouldn't be meant simply for 'temporary' usage. All of the new houses built in mind with the goal of 'proper' plumbing, something which existing housing would also be retrofitted to have. Namely, the NSR plans to introduce indoor toilet facilities for the many who don't have them, to make tap water safe to drink and to connect urban and suburban households to sewer systems. Even within Lagos, only 1% of households are currently connected to sewers, which would make solving the plumbing issues quite strenuous.

Puertollano to increase budget of TeleSUR

The national budgets subsidisation of the TeleSUR Network is to increase in the upcoming months, according to the Ministry of the Interior. After the successful nature of the television, radio and internet organisation throughout the world has promoted President Castillo to increase funding for its' coffers. This comes after mounting attacks against TeleSUR from Italy, who its President accused of being sexist towards her and promoting fake news. TeleSUR has obviously rebuked against these remarks. Together, TeleSUR is co-funded by the governments of the Bolivarian Republic of Puertollano and the Federation of Socialist Republics. The increase of funding will be an additional 15% of the current budget, in order to pay for further journalists, contracts and equipment. This increase in funding will also help TeleSUR as it begins streaming throughout the Zackarothian African Commonwealth. An additional team has been hired for the administration of the new African sector, so that it can deliver local and African based news. President Castillo was quoted saying that 'the people of Puertollano must rally behind TeleSUR, as it achieves the greatest goals of bringing a new voice, a new alternative to the corporate, imperialist narrative.'

Paris defers judgement of Japan; allows Indochinese Dominion independent action

As the Constitutional Convention to decide the fate of the Republic continues to drag on beyond the expected deadline, leaving the government effectively paralyzed, the situation in Japan continues to deteriorate. As such, just as in Nigeria, the military has the unique opportunity to aggressively act independently without civilian oversight. While officially the French Indochinese Federation leads the country's intervention as part of a multinational coalition, Paris has completely absolved themselves of the affair leaving it to the handling of ARVN forces. Critics say that this is the exact problem which caused the devastating bombing of the ICN's capitols, bringing down a President, but this time there is nothing that can be done until the new republic is proclaimed. However, the war in Japan has much higher support in the public than the Nigerian conflict due to fears in Vietnam that if the fascists emerge victorious they will fall victim to neo-imperial aggression. In addition, the Pacific alliance with Australia has also boosted expectations that the campaign is essential for regional security. However, if it becomes apparent that the Confederation is again being used as pawns while the rest of the international community does nothing than the consequences would be severe in terms of public backlash.

Military establishes the 'Global Operations Executive'

It has long been tradition that the military of the modern republics learn and adapt from new experiences. The defeat of 1940, service as half of the Franco-British Union, disaster at Dien Bien Phu, the failure to defend Kuwait, and the recent Indochina and European wars are all examples of past occasions where strategies, tactical doctrines, and technologies have evolved. Now it is time for another generation to evolve. If the French Confederation is to remain a Super Power, new strike abilities must be developed or obtained to ensure that these campaigns in Nigeria and Japan yield valuable lessons. Consequently, the 'Global Operations Executive' is hereby established with the goal of ensure procurement for the future is carried out and that our military continues to be able to act in concert with others, or alone, to defend our interests and our Confederation. A preliminary report by the GOE has been drafted, but not released to the public.

Poland - Europe's Problematic Crime Hub
18 August 2020

Over 1,000 Automatic Weapons and 300,000 Rounds of Ammunition Seized by Police in Warsaw Apartment Owned By
Prestigious Polish Millionaire.

Poland has defended its crown on the "Most Unsafe Country of Europe" for four consecutive years now, even with the strict laws enforced by newly elected Polish president Oleg Masaryk, unorganized crime may have suffered, but somehow organized crime survived and still continues to operate in major metropolitan areas such as Warsaw, Gdansk, and Prague. Many blame the blatant corruption, whereas police forces, the same ones who pledged an oath to eradicate illicit activities, overlooks crime made by powerful men with a suspicious amount of money.

Smuggling is a major and embarrassing problem for Poland, as Poland leads the the entire continent, in exporting untraceable weapons, Heroin, Ecstasy, counterfeit money, and human trade. Data from undercover agents cite that 75% of human cargo that originate from Poland are humanitarian aid volunteers being ransomed to their families, counterfeit money, mostly Euros, are smuggled outside the countries in passenger vehicles and sold to poorer neighborhoods around western Europe for 25% the original price, or shipped overseas in cargo ships to poorer nations in Africa, while weapons are smuggled around Europe with the assist of Cargo trucks, stuffed inside pillows, livestock, among other things. These data currently backs up an official police research which states that at least 50% of all illegal activities in Europe being tied with the Polish Crime Syndicates.

Meanwhile, after a confession from an arrested suspected Polish Mob member, one of the largest illegal weapons bust in history (PICTURED) was uncovered in an Apartment owned by a well respected Polish arms mogul, Bernhart Landau. Over 1,000 Polish made automatic weapons and explosives were uncovered in said apartment and was quickly seized by local police. Petr Vlček, the Warsaw Police Commissioner stated the following, "I congratulate the Warsaw Police Force for bravely seizing a hefty amount of weapons, but to my dismay, we cannot accuse Mr. Landau of such a heinous crime without solid evidence. However, we will confiscate the weapons for evidence." The Police Commissioner was then seen buying a luxury Italian car the next day.

President Masaryk expressed his dissapointment, saying, "We are doing the best we can stopping scum from walking around our great nation. Currently, if the corruption doesn't get any better, i may be obligated to start a purge among government and armed forces officials." President Masaryk also expressed his concern for neighboring countries, pleading their governments to crack down on Polish smugglers in their control.
