BUITINK CHASTISES ALLY ZALLANDT OVER "WHITE NATION" COMMENTS

Image
Buitink attacked her key ally during a speech to the press after a party meeting.
Envoort, Nimear - Buitink has moved to "save the credibility of the National Redemption Party" by criticising key ally Oedipus Zallandt, leader of the Authentic Liberal Republican Party, over recent controversial comments in which he referred to Nimear as a "white nation".

"To call Nimear a white nation is to be ignorant of its history" she told press gathered in Envoort in the early hours of this morning. "It is an insult to our hard-working Zwarter communities, to our long-standing Halfbloed people and to our stalwart indigenous friends; our great nation is a family of these" she added, before continuing. "If my friend took the time to put down his copies of Duclerque's race theory and picked up a few of Klerken's, he would learn what it means to be a Nimearian nationalist."

The National Redemption Party leader's words come after Zallandt - leader of the allied Authentic Liberal Republican Party - referred to Nimear as a "white Eastern civilisation", and to the Federation as "our northern brother in race and creed" in a recent opinion editorial in this very paper. Controversially, he also implied that Mozes Koeaara's Amaru heritage should be grounds for his impeachment.

Krisje Buitink, who polled second in the recent presidential election, made the unexpected statement following a meeting of the party's leadership on Monday. When asked about the recent happenings in Marirana, Buitink replied that "the affairs of the Federation and Marirana should not be our concern".

The criticism represents what pundits describe as a growing divide between Buitink and Zallandt, who campaigned together during the presidential campaign.

"There is a growing divide between moderates and radicals in the Nimearian right-wing" political analyst Sibren Woordes told de Heraut. "Zallandt is seen by the far-right as a 'race realist', while Buitink is seen by the party to have more chance of winning over non-white voters" he added. "It wont belong before these two factions come to blows, fighting over the very soul of the souverainist movement in Nimear."

A spokesperson for the Authentic Liberal Republican Party told our correspondent that "the party stands behind its leader", but is "concerned by the nature of many of his recent comments."

Zallandt has yet to comment on Buitink's reaction to his opinion editorial.

Vice President Vittoria Vasari offers Asteria Etruria's support in face of "ideologically infused vitriol."
Etruria offers it support for the Federation in wake of the Ospoletto Incident, she warned that the condemnation "will undermine the fight against narco-terrorism."

In a surprising press conference, Vice President Vittoria Vasari on behalf of the Etrurian government, offered the country’s “support and understanding” to Asteria in wake of the Ospoletto Incident. She told reporters, “the United Transetrurian Federation under no circumstances dismisses the death of children, what happened was a utter tragedy, an avoidable one yes, but such is the nature of warfare. But, Asteria has suffered sacrifices to fight narco-terrorism and we must not forget that, despite the vitriol unleashed.”
Image
The Vice President gave the statement as President Carcaterra focuses on the Anti-Mafia bill.

Speaking to reporters at her official residence, she told reporters, “over the past few days, the world has been gripped by the tragic events in Ospoletto in Marirana, Etruria and her people are included in that. As a mother myself, I can imagine the pain of the parents who lost their cherished children in what was a vicious violation of peace, by both sides.”

“What happened was truly a tragedy, one that could have been avoided. Yet through the sorrow of such loss of life, some in the international community have succumbed to pandemonium and self-serving vitriol. What happened was a tragedy and could have been avoided, but unfortunately it wasn’t. Condemning the Federation in the manner seen in recent days is not going to change that, rather it will continue to undermine the good work the Federation has committed itself to.

“Furthermore, this vitriol will divide the peoples of Asteria further, driving a wedge between the forces who fight the good fight against narco-terrorism and organised criminality. The Federation, unlike some of the most vocal critics, has buried sons and daughters in the pursuit of a cartel-free world. Drugs is a global problem, cocaine especially finds its way into the societies of nations hemispheres away, this criticism and agitation toward the Federation will ensure the continued spread of narcotics” she said.

“In short, Etruria stands with Asteria as it fights the most pernicious of organised crime and we offer them our prayers as they bury their 19 dead sons, just as we offer our prayers and love to the people of Ospoletto” she said.

Taking questions from the press, she was asked if the Tribune government viewed the incident in the same light as many others, in that blame rests solely on President Benjamin Avery.

“Absolutely not, while we condone the use of children as human shields, we’re yet to see proof that the Army Rangers held the students in place, the sicarios and their local gunmen knew the building was a school, yet they continued to shoot and fire rockets, they could have stopped, just as the Army Rangers I am sure could have found alternate cover, both sides are to blame here. One side fighting criminality, made mistakes, the otherside, which has no consideration for human life anyway, attacked with consideration or due-care for innocents, so no” she replied.

A reporter from the Gazetta Federale asked if the Tribunes were being dismissive of the dead Mariranians to warm ties with the Federation, Vice President Vasari, visibly annoyed at the questioned responded, “At the end of the day, most of those who died were narco-terrorists, people who would stab their own grandmothers for money. The sheer ideologically infused vitriol we’ve seen is for drug producing, addicted, half-starved illiterate natives. We’re dismissive of them, but never children, do you want to mourn a cocaine smuggler?”

The question was followed by one regarding a possible response from the EC, to which the Vice President replied, “It is highly likely that the EC will offer its pennyworth of virtues and lectures on the matter. Anything beyond the standard lesson in morality will be beyond the pale, since the crux of this matter is the fight against narco-terrorism. We’ve got too many leaders, left-wingers using this crisis for point scoring.”

There were rumours circulating that the Federal government had become “disturbed” at the level of vitriol being thrown at the Federation, and with the government seeking to deepen and expand ties with Marirana, concern that the global response would undermine the intervention against the cartels and endanger Etrurian investment. Though many within the Tribune Movement see the fight against the cartels in the same light as the struggle against the Mafia in Etruria.

The Federation of Asteria
Early this morning, President Marques Swen left Duquesne and traveled to The Federation of Asteria on the Duquesne Presidential Airplane for a summit with President Avery. Shortly after he finished his address to the nation last night, President Avery called President Swen and invited him for an urgent summit regarding the Mariranan Incident, as well as Federation deployment of troops into military bases throughout Duquesne. President Swen has taken enormous backlash from foreign governments for his steadfast support of President Avery and the Federation, yet, as he made clear in his address last night, that support will not waver.

Since our induction into the JDF earlier this year, both governments have been working on bringing Federation troops into Duquesne’s military bases, and President Avery has made it clear that it is a top priority for this summit. In President Swen’s initial press conference reacting to the Mariranan incident, he pledged Duquesne troops to aid Federation forces in Marirana to work on suppressing the insurgency. No doubt this matter will also come up during their summit this week.

President Swen is expected to remain in the Federation for the remainder of the week, so Vice President Jean-Luc B. d’Este will be running the country, monitoring both the situations in Marquette, and in the Grande Marecage investigation. The Vice President just a short time ago also released a brief statement praising the statement made by Etruria’s Vice President Vittoria Vasari, saying, “I congratulate Vice President Vasari for making a statement based on the facts, unlike so many other foreign leaders, who have band-wagoned to tarnish the brave work of the Federation and its troops”

GOVERNMENT SLAMS FEDERATION AFTER “INHUMAN MASSACRE” IN MARIRANA

Image

Altenstad- The Government has officially released statements slamming the Federation's mass murder in Ospelletto in Marirana. Reportedly, 19 Federal troops were killed, to 500 cartel members and civilians, in what was a brutal battle, instigated by the Federation. In the fight they used children as human shields and attacked a school.
The Prime Minister has been tasked with leading the reaction, instructions from President Korze. He said yesterday that the "actions of the Federation were disgusting and inhuman", calling President Avery "a sick slug", along with Federation Defence Secretary McNamara.
In Wilhemmesburg, the State Diet actually held a vote to approve President Korze originally satirical proposal to make every school compete to see who has the best essay as to why the entire Federation government hasn't resigned yet. The Diet is very opposed to the actions of the Federation in Marirana. President Korze said the federation had committed war crimes and called for the intervention in Marirana to end immediately.

KOEAARA INAUGURATED AS STATE PRESIDENT

Image
Koeaara was inaugurated as leader alongside foreign guests, Presidents Cordeiro and Occhetto.
Envoort, Nimear - The will of the Nimearian electorate has come to pass, as Mozes Koeaara takes his place as the 49th Nimearian head of state. He was officially inaugurated as State President in the traditional manner in the capital of Envoort.

The inauguration was a particularly busy affair, with crowds filling Envoort's squares and streets to both show support and opposition to the new State President. Despite security concerns following the comments of Oedipus Zallandt and others, no major disturbances were reported, and thanks to the efforts of the police, both groups of protests maintained an orderly fashion.

In his first speech as State President, to the masses of supporters gathered before him, Koeaara told them "this is the first step in our revolution, the first step in our movement to reconstruct this nation to work for the people, not the elite."

"Against the wishes of the land barons, against the wishes of the media, against the wishes of those who would seek to divide us, we have triumphed. Now is the first day in a new age, for Nimear, for Asteria, for Kylaris! Peace, Diversity and Land!"

Among the anti-Koeaara protesters present in Envoort was Oedipus Zallandt, who told our correspondent that he "fighting for the soul and integrity of our nation" in the face of "tyrannical leftist domination".

Similar protests erupted in a number of other cities such as Sint-Nicolaas, Helmond and Nieuw Zilverzee.

Among those who attended the official ceremony were President of Marirana Lorenzo Occhetto, and President of Moreira Lúcia Machado Cordeiro, who were invited at Koeaara's behest. Political analyst and de Heraut editor Sibren Woordes suggests that we will "see much more of this triumvirate of the Asterian left" in the months to come.

The election of Koeaara has been seen negatively by financial markets with the Sint-Nicolaas Stock Exchange having lost value since the date of his election, and fears of capital flight gripping the economy.

POPE JOSEPH CRITICISES "INDEFENSIBLE" DEATH OF MARIRANAN CHILDREN
"Children on the firing line. Children treated as little more than the environment, in a clash between two fighting units. What have we come to? Are the JDF not supposed to be helping, and are the insurgents not supposed to care for Marirana?"

Tibernum, The Ecclesiastical State -

In a sermon and vigil earlier this morning, his Holiness addressed a topic that is currently making headlines across the globe. Sparking protests across the Solarian Asterias, condemnation from many states across Kylaris and even seeing members of the JDF bring about criticism towards the conduct of the Federation of Asterias. The topic is that of the tragic firefight in an Ospletto, that has seen over 500 people dead -- including 19 members of the Asterian Military and an unconfirmed number of deaths of children, though fatalities amongst them are speculated to be within the high 30s to low 50s.

"It brings me no joy in speaking today." The Pope began. "This is not a topic one would like to discuss, a topic one would wish would not exist. Yet it does; the massacre of innocents in Marirana at the result of bad intelligence in a conflict that exists to hunt down the so called 'Asterian Spectre'. Narcotics."

"Yet what was once a noble cause in an effort to remove the vice of drugs, drug related crime and other illegal activities such as human trafficking has become a cause that has seen levels of brutality and disregard -- unintentional or not -- that has turned the Asterian intervention from careful liberators to monstrous invaders, some who unfortunately happen to be uninformed to a degree that sees officers command their units into a school."

Wiping away tears from his cheeks, the Pontiff would gesticulate via clenched fists. Commentators saw this as an effort to contain anger.

"A place of learning for the impoverished, children who attend school rigorously all year. Children who sacrifice their childhood, their playing, their games, their bouts of youth in an effort to better themselves with knowledge, to break the chain of poverty and to better themselves and their families economically. And because of their dedication, their familial wishes, they were brutally used as 'collateral' between Asterian soldiers and Mariranan Insurgents, gang members."

"The grace of Secretary McNamara highlights that at least those who consider themselves responsible have taken an exit over their failure. Yet we must also note that Secretary McNamara resigning is not an end to the problem; it is an admission of responsibility. I can't imagine how the man must be feeling, but we must pray for him too."

"When we reflect on the tragedy that has taken place, we must come to a solemn conclusion." The Pope would finish. "It is time, nigh on time, that the intervention ends. I will not speak in terms of geopolitics, but in terms of genuine human dignity and respect. We must appreciate the intentions of the Federation and its military, but also recognise that the citizens of Marirana have suffered enough."

"And I leave on the note of telling the faithful to lament on the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 26:52 "Put up again thy sword into its place: for all that take the sword shall perish with the sword."

CASARNACH SACKS REBEL MINISTERS OVER THE IMMIGRATION REFORM ACT
The day before Glytter's women's football team competes for gold, the Taoiseach sacked three of his ministers

SHAREImage Image Image Image
James Kelley (@jkelleygbf)
16 August 2018 | Spálgleann, Glytter

Image
The Taoiseach met with senior Weranian officials earlier today as part of his 'Invictus Diplomacy'.

SPÁLGLEANN – Taoiseach Frank Casarnach has dismissed three of his ministers, all of which were close allies of ex-Taoiseach Jimmy O'Reilly.

Children's Minister Alastar Leslie, Culture Minister Robert Kean, and Urban Affairs Minister Dónal Mac Diarmaid have all be sacked. Replacements have not been named.

Mr. Casarnach has had a rocky relationship with the three ministers, most notably Mr. Leslie. Tensions began to grow as the Taoiseach sought to undermine the Immigration Reform Act, legislation strongly supported by the ministers.

The now-former Children's Minister has previously served as Minister of Trade and Tariffs under Mr. O'Reilly and as Minister of Petroleum under then Taoiseach Alexis Walker. He has been increasingly vocal of the Taoiseach after the decision to sack and replace all six members of the Citizenship Test Commission, the body responsible for creating a new citizenship test as part of Mr. O'Reilly's landmark immigration reform.

The Taoiseach and his allies have been very critical of the legislation. However, they do not have the votes within their governing coalition to repeal the legislation. Liberty's coalition partners, the Centre Party and Glytter Democrats, announced their opposition to repeal and any further undermining of the IRA earlier this month. The decision came after what was reported to be highly contentious Cabinet meeting in which senior ministers described a "shocking" confrontation between the Taoiseach and Mr. Leslie. The incident is understood by GBF News Online to be an important point of demarcation in the relationship between the Taoiseach and the three ministers, who all walked out of the Cabinet meeting. The Taoiseach called out sick from Taoiseach's Questions that Wednesday and called out sick from the following Cabinet meeting.

He attended this week's meeting of the Cabinet but the meeting was brief, ending over an hour earlier than scheduled.

The sacking of Mr. Kean, who briefly served as Foreign Minister under Taoiseach O'Reilly, means that Glytter is without a Minister of Culture as the Invictus Games run. However, they come to a close this Sunday, when closing ceremonies take place.

The move is likely to spark further divisions within the Taoiseach's own party. Liberty's moderate faction, known as the Middle, is co-chaired by Casarnach-rival Julie Royce, another former Foreign Minister. She has remained a vocal critic of Mr. Casarnach since he defeated her in the contest to replace Mr. O'Reilly. With the three ministers out of the Cabinet, Liberty's largest organized faction no longer has a presence in the Cabinet. Many of the current Cabinet ministers are long-time back-benchers or former Flowerite ministers who served under Ms. Walker, with the most notable exception being the Foreign Minister, the Laird Dunbroch.

The Taoiseach has declined to comment on the game, saying he prefers to focus on the "immense opportunity the Invictus Games offers [Glytter]" and "rebuilding [Glytter's] shattered diplomatic resignation.

Liberty Party Chair Claire Nic Haol-Casarnach, the Taoiseach's wife, has also declined to comment.

The three sacked ministers have so far refused to comment on the issue. Ms. Royce condemned the sacking on Twitter, calling the move "calculated" and urged the Taoiseach to "restore unity" within the party.

SWEN COMES TO JACKSON
President Marquis Swen of Duquesne made a state visit to Jackson this week; Avery boasts of "a new footing" for the JDF

Jackson -

Following a national address which reasserted Duquesne's commitment to its JDF allies - primarily the Federation - President Marquis Swen embarked on his three-day state visit to Jackson. Arriving at Joint Base Ascher in late-morning Wednesday, President Swen was met by the President on the tarmac, and the two were transported via Marine One to the State House, where they held their first of numerous private meetings-- in addition to a televised meeting.

What was on the agenda? President Avery told Swen that he would be deploying 15,000 Asterian troops, along with hundreds of vehicles, planes, and a new array of air and missile defense systems. Avery said to Swen that "the Federation has been pushing for more cohesion in regards to the defense of member-states for a number of years now. With Marirana now thinking of leaving the JDF, the organization is going to have to bend and adapt. That's why its absolutely vital that the JDF makes Duquesne's defense a primary focus." The 15,000 Asterian forces being deployed to Duquesne will be deployed over the course of a full year, in weekly bursts. Roeselle has also pledged to send 5,000 of its own soldiers, along with loads of equipment, to Duquesne.

The two presidents had a State House dinner with Avery's family, cabinet members, and allies in Congress. The next day, Swen and Avery made the short trip to the Capitol Building, where President Swen delivered an address to a joint session of Congress. President Swen began by greeting Congress and thanking them for their time, before moving on to his primary topic. He criticized the international response to the Ospeletto Incident, saying that "the international community has made it a point to openly tarnish the brave work of your troops. I speak to you on behalf of my people that The Republic of Duquesne is committed to working hand-in-hand with you, our closest allies." Swen talked of the future of Duquesne-Federation relations, as the rapidly-warming relations will certainly stimulate trade between the two, and increased immersion of Duquesne within the Joint Defense Force will create greater cohesion between the people of Duquesne, and those of JDF countries. He ended by saying "I look forward with becoming more acquainted with your beautiful country and your excellent leadership"

President Swen will remain in Jackson until tomorrow afternoon, when he will return to Marquete. President Avery told Swen that "we'll have Federal Marines back in Marquette to greet you", speaking of the Marines' reputation of being able to deploy anywhere in the Asterias within 24 hours.

Avery told members of the Press following their final private meeting that he was "fully confident in President Swen and Duquesne", adding that "they are a steadfast, dedicated people who have shown me over and over their desire to keep our homelands safe." He concluded by stating that "the JDF has found new footing, and it is something that I truly think regional and international adversaries should be wary of."

BREAKING Anti-Mafia Bill passes in the Chamber of Representatives
The Anti-Mafia bill passes the Chamber 478-11 with 201 abstentions. Will now go to the Committee Stage

The Civil Security bill, popularly known as the Anti-Mafia Act has passed in the Chamber of Representatives. The bill passed 478-11, with 201 abstentions. The bill will pass onto the Committee Stage where it is expected to pass tomorrow without amendment owing to the Tribune Movement’s majority on the Senatorial Committee for Judicial Affairs. President Carcaterra praised the bill’s passing telling the chamber, “this is the first victory of many over the Corruption.”

The Chamber backed the bill with a colossal majority.

After three days of debate, the bill passed with a colossal majority as the vast majority of opposition Representatives abstained. The mass abstentions is owed to the government’s threat to name and shame opponents of the bill as “defenders of the Corruption.” While the threat was widely denounced by the Power-Mafia and their allies in the Chamber, it was successful in deterring opposition.

Despite the government’s stern warning, 11 Representatives voted against the bill. How representatives voted is revealed by the Senatorial Recorder, which is updated at midnight. The Citizens’ Alliance and Democratic Alternative had requested that the Commissioner for Senatorial Standards defer from publishing the Recorder in light of the government’s threat to name and shame in the media, however, late this evening the Commissioner rejected the opposition’s request.

When the result was announced in the full-attended Chamber, the government benches erupted in cheers and applause.

President Carcaterra addressed the Chamber saying, “I congratulate everyone of you who backed the government tonight. Your support has brought us one step closer to empowering the Etrurian government to defeat the Corruption and all crimes of its nature. This is the first victory of many over the Corruption.”

The leaders of the Citizens’ Alliance and Democratic Alternative refused to give a statement, opting to walk out with their Representatives following the President’s short statement.

CA leader, Vittoria Vetra told reporters outside the Palazzo della Repubblica, “This is a bad day for Etruria, while we do not disagree that organised crime is a major threat to Etrurian development and growth, the content of the bill is questionable, it grants the Federal government, a government held by a party keener on undermining our rights and freedoms, excessive powers. It is hoped that the State Council will take the fight on and bring about a more responsible bill.”

Leader of Democratic Alternative, Gianlucca Maniero told reporters, “while we opposed the bill’s contents, especially on the grounds that it provides the Federal government excessive powers to seize private property, I defend and will always defend allowing our elected members the right to an open vote, many opted to abstain, that is on the Tribunes not us, they’re the ones who threatened a media hurricane, this is indicative of the bill, just the same as their penchant for bullying.”

Tomorrow the bill will be passed onto the Senatorial Judicial Committee where it will be reviewed. Owing to the Tribunes’ majority on the committee it is expected to be passed directly onto the State Council, by at least late afternoon.

The State Council will debate the bill and vote by Friday evening, if passed it will become law. The Tribunes gained a two-thirds majority in the upper-house of the Senate in this year’s general election.
According to a poll released by Demos this morning, 77% of Etrurians back the Civil Security Bill, with 20% against.

More as the story develops.

The Federation of Asteria
President Marques Swen is wrapping up his summit with President Avery in the Federation of Asteria today. He will depart from the Federation tonight, and return to Duquesne after a 6 hour flight to Marquette. At a closing Press Conference, President Swen called the summit a “success”, and praised his new-found relationship with President Avery.

The summit began on Wednesday morning, as Marques Swen landed at Joint Base Ascher outside the Federation capital city Jackson. He was greeted by President Avery on the tarmac, as well as a large crowd of Asterian citizens, waving Federation and Duquesne flags. From the tarmac, President Avery brought President Swen on a helicopter tour of Jackson, pointing out all of the important government buildings as well as historical monuments and attractions. After the helicopter tour, the helicopter landed at the State House, where President Swen and President Avery ate lunch, and began meetings discussing many issues, such as the Mariranan Incident, the deployment of Asterian troops into Duquesne, and the deployment of Duquesne troops into the Federation forces in Marirana. After the 4 hours of meeting, the leaders held a joint press conference, in which they announced the results of their meeting. President Swen reiterated his support for the Federation and its troops in Marirana, and defended their brave actions during the incident that has drawn massive international criticism. President Avery announced that the Federation would be sending 15,000 troops into Duquesne, to assist in bases across the country, as well as further securing the southern border, as drug and gang violence remain a prime concern for the citizens of Duquesne. In addition, President Avery announced that the Federation would be sending hundreds of military vehicles, planes, and weapons into Duquesne, in addition to a new missile defense system, to not only modernize our equipment, but to improve its quality and effectiveness.

Following the Press Conference, President Swen traveled to his hotel where he spent his time until the State dinner with President Avery and his family. President Swen was greeted by President Avery, his wife and kids, and joined them along with Federation cabinet members and congressional supporters for an elegant dinner and concert by the Federation’s military band. President Swen remained at the State House for several hours, and following the dinner, he returned to his hotel.

On Thursday morning, President Swen briefly met with his advisors before returning to the State house, where he met President Avery, and traveled with him to Congress for a joint address. President Swen spoke to Congress for 30 minutes, and was received warmly by the congressmen. He highlighted particularly the Mariranan incident, saying, “"The international community has made it a point to openly tarnish the brave work of your troops. I speak to you on behalf of my people that The Republic of Duquesne is committed to working hand-in-hand with you, our closest allies." He then spoke about how important the JDF and particularly the Federation is to the de-isolation process, saying, “The Federation of Asteria and the other members of the JDF have been key in the continuing de-isolation of our country. Since our Civil War in the 1930s, our country has remained isolated, and irrelevant on the world stage. The willingness of the Federation to work so closely to help our country is truly a blessing to our people, who have known none but themselves for nearly 90 years.” He finished the speech saying, “"I look forward with becoming more acquainted with your beautiful country and your excellent leadership". When he finished his speech, he was given a standing ovation by the congressmen, and shook hands and posed for pictures with President Avery.

Following his address to congress, President Swen returned to the State House with President Avery, along with several advisors, to discuss economic measures, and possible trade deals. Both governments have said that the agreements in discussion will be announced at a later date. President Swen stayed for a “working dinner”, before returning to his hotel where he currently remains. He will depart via the Duquesne Presidential Airplane tomorrow morning at Joint Base Ascher, after a brief farewell concert by the Federation Military Band on the tarmac.

This summit has been a major step forward in strengthening relations with Duquesne’s closest ally, as well as the arguable leader of the JDF. The commitments and investments in Duquesne’s safety, with the addition of troops, vehicles, and missile defense systems will certainly boost morale in an army that has never been involved in international conflict. These resources will be especially critical in the south, as the possibility of Marirana leaving the JDF is increasing due to the violence in Ospletto, as well as the southern provinces continue to live “on-edge” after the massacre in Grande Marecage.

Chief Economic Adviser David Senth told our Joe Clare to “expect news regarding trade deals within the next week”, as well as possible news of pipelines and railways connecting the two nations.

Three days left of Invictus Games
Image
Atuvja Valuda, silver medal winner in ice skating for Rhakhataa

2018-08-17 09:05 RHT

There are just three days left until the end of the 2018 Summer Invictus Games, held in Spálgleann, Glytter. Though they come every four years, we are all always sad to see them go; there is something rousing about celebrating achievement and country and health with the rest of the world. Though the final countdown has begun, and though there are still events to be run, here are some of our highlights.

· The fireworks of the Opening Ceremony were as flashy as always, of course. The performance of No Direction was apparently a particularly popular favourite amongst Rhakhese viewers.

· Who could forget the stunning performance of Rhuvaal Tuvala in the women's archery? Reportedly, she was given the damaged arrows to keep as a memento, though no doubt the gold medal is as appreciated.

· The performance of twins Tuvar and Khabar Porhobas, first-time Invictians at only eighteen years old, was admirable. They competed in the rhythmic gymnastics, each scoring a medal.

· The 1500 m men's freestyle was an event to behold; the video, available here, shows you just how unexpected and surprising the catch-up from behind was. The swimmer, Tarvulaa Okjatu, is known for being one of the tallest Invictians on the Rhakhese team, at just shy of two metres.

· Though not strictly a sporting event, the crowd was appreciative of the little tabby cat that kept alongside teams in the slalom canoeing, including the Rhakhese one (who came just shy of a medal).

Those following the games are reminded to take breaks and stay hydrated after long periods of watching, and to keep to safe, sober, indoors revels.

Our next update on the Games will be a summary, upon the Closing Ceremony.

Protestors at Etrurian War Crimes Denial surround Etrurian Embassy; leaders say they will not move until Etruria apologises

Shamiramishen, Denikert:

Many would call Denikert's silence on the denial of Etrurian war crimes odd. Denikert, however, maintained its silence and inaction for good reason, however, as all factions and political groups mutually informally agree that no forms of protest or public rally that could give way to violence would be held during the election cycle.

That ended today, after the formal announcement of the election results resulted in the ruling coalition, despite losing the support of its monarchist elements, managed to narrowly maintain control of the lower house.

After breathing a sigh of relief, however, the government faces a new, fresh crisis, and one that will not be easy to solve.

In a show of right-wing solidarity, the leaders of the Righteous Path Party, Democratic Party and National Party have released a statement calling for their supporters to 'surround and blockade the Eturian Embassy until apologies for their atrocities, and apologies for daring to deny such atrocities were committed in the first place' are delivered.

The number of protestors, starting in the low hundreds, has grown since then, and the protestors have blocked the streets and pavements around the Etrurian Embassy with their camp. The Shamiramishen Police Commander has stated that he will not remove the protestors or the camp, as they are 'not causing undue concern to the people of Shamiramishen by their presence' although a small police presence remains at the camp.

Numerous right-wing figures are expected to appear at the camp in the following few days, and the number of protestors is expected to only increase as time goes on.

The government has remained silent on the issue, and no comments have been made.

GLYTTER BESTS NEMATSU TO CLINCH GOLD FOR WOMEN'S FOOTBALL
Dramatic game sees Glytter's women's team win gold medal match as nation erupts in celebration

SHAREImage Image Image Image

Glytter secured a gold medal after beating Nematsu 2-1.

SPÁLGLEANN – Glytter's women's team has won the gold model in the women's football tournament. They beat Nematsu 2-1 after a dramatic game that was stuck in a deadlock until Glytteronian striker Caitlín Nic Dhiarmaid scored a goal three minutes before the game was set to go into overtime.

Órla Nic an t-Saoir scored Glytter's first goal, which was followed by Nematsu's goal at around the 43 minute mark.

Women's football has only been featured at the Invictus Games six times, starting in 1998 as part of the celebration of the Games' centennial.

Glytter's women's team has had a long history of success at the Invictus Games but was disappointed during the 2014 Gatôn Games when they placed fourth, failing to win a medal. With the games in Glytter, they now hope for the ultimate home field advantage.

This is the Glytteronian team's third gold medal in women's football, having made it to the final four each year it was featured and winning medals four of the six.

Glytter beat Cheonhae 1-0 on Tuesday and advanced to the final stage. Cheonhae and Tirona are set to play for the bronze later today at 16:00 EST.

There was much celebration throughout Glytter in the wake of the victory. His Majesty King Kenneth and a number of the Royal Family were in attendance during the match, in additional to a host of government officials and Glytteronian celebrities. The national anthem was sung by many in the crowd during the podium ceremony. The festivities were not limited to Sovereign's Stadium, however. Thousands of fans throughout the country celebrated in pubs and many took to the streets in celebration.

Internationally, the focus is primarily on the men's tournament, but in Glytter it is on the women's matches. Women's football is dominant in Glytter, with more fans and viewers than the men's league. This is due in part to a national strategy to excel in women's competitions at the Invictus Games to increase Glytter's overall medal count. Glytter, a small nation of just over nine million, struggles to compete with much larger nations in men's sports, where it traditionally dedicates fewer resources.

Attempts to change this status quo have been made. Prince John, the Earl of Corofin, brought national interest to men's league after he became a professional footballer. The surprise performance of the Glytteronian team at the last World Cup brought new interest to men's football. It was hoped the Glytteronian men's team would perform well in the men's tournament this year, but they failed to build a momentum and were eliminated before the knock-out stage.

The men's gold medal final takes place at 13:00 EST tomorrow at Sovereign's Stadium. Gaullica and Satucin will face off for the gold and silver while Estmere and the Federation will play for bronze at 16:00 EST.

The closing ceremonies for the 30th Invictus Games are set to take place this Sunday at Millennium Stadium.

ALLAIRE CALLS ON ICD FOR SUPPORT

Image

The Prime Minister making his speech outside Number 12
Gatôn, Satucin -
Today the Prime Minister has called upon the member nations of the International Council for Democracy (ICD) to vote on a formal condemnation of the actions of the Federation. In his ten-minute speech the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of holding "the world's self-described 'most free and democratic nation'" to account lest it be allowed to "treat those nations it disagrees with politically with the utmost disrespect at the unfortunate cost of innocent lives".

Critics of the speech have stated that the Prime Minister is using the tragedy in Mariranan as a smokescreen to conceal efforts to undermine democracy in Satucin by locking the other parties and the public out of efforts to promulgate a new constitution. The Prime Minister's spokesperson has denied any such efforts, but has confirmed that there will be no referendum on the new constitution.

The full extract of his speech is below:

"Firstly I would once again offer my respects and prayers to those families and communities affected by the ongoing violence in parts of Marirana, as well as my support to President Occhetto's current efforts in tackling the very real causes of these problems. As he once said 'a new dawn has broken' and it is very clear to us that he was right. Where once Satucin was one of the few countries in the Asterias to stand up for the rights of the people against the corporate-militarist agenda of the Federation and JDF, we are now in the many. The policies of President Occhetto, State-President Koeaara and President Cordeiro are absolutely inspiring and I very much look forward to working with them all.

So now the very crux of my speech, I call upon the other member nations of the International Council for Democracy to do their part in formally condemning the Federation of Asteria and the JDF for what can only be described as a war crime, in the country of a fellow JDF member no less. It is the duty of this Council to act as a watchdog upon countries that threaten democracy both internally and externally. I believe that to not hold the world's self-described 'most free and democratic' nation to account would damage the credibility of this organisation and pose a serious threat to democracy in the Asterias. If the Federation and its so-called 'allies' in the JDF are allowed treat those nations they disagree with politically with the utmost disrespect at the unfortunate cost of innocent lives then democracy will be threatened.

The world cannot afford any more dictatorships, whether they be foreign-backed puppets or would-be strongmen riding upon false waves of what they call populism. While I am sure that this war crime committed will not lead the Federation down that path itself, I believe I have made it clear that to allow it to go free without repercussions would not only encourage such behaviour but indeed embolden it. It would also threaten the movement which I have seen sprouting since the election of the late President Albargaria in 2009 and my own election in 2012; that of movements by the people for the people, true democracy, led the inspiring leaders who I have mentioned earlier.

Therefore, I formally call upon the International Council for Democracy to fully condemn the Federation of Asteria for its actions in Marirana, and to establish its actions as having knowingly committed a war crime. I also request that the Council back JDF withdrawal from Marirana if the Government of Marirana requests it."

Presidents Avery and Swen Announce Historic Trade Deal
A Successful Summit Ends

President Avery Announces The Trade Deal

The Federation of Asteria
At a surprise closing press conference with President Avery on the tarmac of Joint Base Ascher, President Avery, with President Swen at his side, announced a multi billion dollar trade deal between the two nations. This news came at a surprise to all there, as President Swen’s chief economic advisor, David Senth, yesterday said that news would be coming within the next week.

President Avery began by outlining not just the economic benefits to the two countries, but calling the deal “the first step towards fully putting Duquesne’s isolationism in the past”, adding that “President Swen and I are working closely for a brighter, more-productive future. President Swen also commented on the economic boom that it would provide for Duquesne industry.

In the deal, The Federation will begin exporting millions of automobiles into Duquesne. This will increase competition in Duquesne, as currently the only automobiles available are the “Duqe” and a limited number of cars being imported from Valentir. The Federation will also be sending brand new computers, and other technologies into Duquesne, as well as encouraging companies to expand their services into Duquesne to boost the technological power of Duquesne. Similar to the military deal made earlier in the summit, Federation Weapons will be imported into Duquesne to be available in the public firearms market. Finally, The Federation and Duquesne will be constructing pipelines between the two countries so The Federation can begin sending gasoline and diesel into Duquesne.

Also via those pipelines, Duquesne will be sending both coal and iron into the Federation, which will give a massive boost to the mining industry in Duquesne. In addition to coal and iron, Duquesne will also begin exporting Coffee and Cocoa, in addition to grapes, other fruits, and wine into the Federation. The massive increase in demand for Duquesne’s two biggest industries is expected to create thousands of new jobs, and give a massive boost to our economy.

Finally, both countries announced a massive infrastructure initiative, which will include the construction of the pipelines, railway lines (which will include track-laying, tunneling, and bridge-building) and additional border entry points in the Duquesne wall on the Federation border.

This trade deal is expected to skyrocket the Duquesne economy, as a deal on this scale has never been made by Duquesne. This is only the second major trade deal made by Duquesne, the first being the deal made earlier this year with Valentir, since the Isolation after the Civil War. Presidents Avery and Swen also announced that many more deals are still being worked on, and will be announced over the coming months.

BREAKING Anti-Mafia Bill becomes law after passing the State Council
The Civil Security Act is passed the State Council 208-82. Follows a shotgun amendment backed by the Chamber of Representatives.

The Civil Security Bill has become law following the State Council backing the legislation 208-82. Today’s process saw a shotgun amendment proposed by Arcangelo Leonardi (TM), which extends the period of detention without trial from 72 hours to a week per judicial approval, the amendment was backed 475-205. The State Council’s result was announced 10pm, with President Carcaterra praising the Senate for passing “the most historic legislation aimed at freeing our great fatherland from criminality.”
Image
President Francesco Carcaterra praised the Senate for passing "the most historic legislation" against the
Mafia.

The proceedings began at 8am this morning when the Bill was passed to the Senatorial Committee for Judicial Affairs, it was briefed and passed onto the State Council by a vote of 8-4 at 10.30am. The State Council convened and was granted a four-hour debate window by President of the Council, Ettore Mantovano. Following the debate, which saw a more professional and legislative focused discussion between members, State Councillor Arcangelo Leonardi (TM) tabled an amendment, extending the period of detention without trial from 72 hours to a week, with judicial approval.

Addressing the State Council he said, “72 hours is realistically and practically not long enough. These individuals possess extensive information and evidence, they’re key to unravelling the entire structures of the Mafiosi and they are key witnesses to heinous crimes. While my amendment retains the 72 hour period, it will grant the Civil Security Service the opportunity to extend that period to a week, following approval from a Federal judge.”

State Councillor Leonardi previously spent 22 years as a federal prosecutor, specialising in cases against the Mafiosi. `

The amendment was sent to the Chamber of Representatives which backed the amendment 475-205. The amended bill returned to the State Council at 3pm, where further debate was held until 6pm. The Council broke at 6pm for a two-hour recess, during which time many remained in the Chamber to further debate the bill.

During the final hours of debate, many Citizen’s Alliance members urged the chamber to reject the bill.

The CA’s State Council leader, Piero Altadonna said, “the bill prior to the amendment was a gross example of a power grab, in the pursuit of ending organised crime, the Tribune government has sought to amass a power of detention, property seizure and surveillance that in any other democracy would be condemned as the founding of a police state. If the Tribunes care for our democracy, which they claim daily, they would reject this bill.”
The Tribune’s leader in the State Council, Romolo Fornaciari rejected Altadonna’s argument saying, “this bill is for the defence of our democracy, which otherwise would be hollowed out and depleted of life by the Corruption, which has been slowly doing so, for decades, because the Power-Mafia and their confederates in our political system, parties like the Citizens Alliance, have been left be and allowed to grow. This bill will save our democracy, save our republic and end their tyranny over all Etrurians.”

At 9.50pm, the State Council ceased debating and headed toward the Member’s Wards, the official name for the voting booths.

At 10.00pm, President of the State Council, Ettore Mantovano declared the results, 208-82 votes in favour. He swiftly officially declared the Civil Security Bill passed and sent the bill to be signed by President Carcaterra into law.

Following the news, President Carcaterra was joined by senior members of the Federal Cabinet outside the Palazzo della Repubblica, where he told reporters, “we have passed the Civil Security Act. Our vow to confront and destroy organised crime and the Corruption can now begin in earnest. I will say this once to those who engage in organised crime, know that we are coming for you. And we will end your enterprises.”

“I thank the Senate as a whole for passing this historic legislation aimed at freeing our fatherland from criminality. Together we are going to achieve our nation’s want and dream, we are going to end the humiliating stain the Mafia represents” he said.

More as the story develops.

Pope Joseph to Visit Duquesne
The Agenda of the Visit

Marquette
Last night, in a joint statement, Vice President d’Este and the Duquesne Conference of Cardinals and Bishops, announced that Pope Joseph would be visiting the country this week. In the statement, Vice President d’Este announced that the visit has been planned for several weeks, and that the Vatican wished to have it announced closer to the arrival of Pope Joseph.

For the Catholic Church in Duquesne, this visit is a historic event. This visit will be the first time a Pope has ever traveled to Duquesne. During the period of isolation, one of the only ties to the outside world was the Catholic Church, as it kept its reign over the dioceses and archdioceses, continuing to appoint new bishops, and cardinals. Yet, this never included a Papal Visit, as Duquesne never accepted foreign ambassadors until its recent induction into the JDF. This week, the millions of Catholics in Duquesne will, for the first time, have the opportunity to see the Holy Father.

Once the Vice President and the Conference released their joint announcement, the Vatican put out a similar announcement. The Vatican’s office of the Secretary of State said in the statement, “Whilst his Holiness has visited Marirana before, it has been decided that in an effort to bring about a greater understanding of the conflict and all it entails requires him to also visit the faithful in its peripheries.” This statement was referring both to the tensions regarding the Ospletto incident, as well as overall Duquesne immigration policy, both of which have drawn much criticism on the international stage.

Pope Joseph is scheduled to arrive in Grande Marecage on Monday, where he will begin with a Mass at the St. Phillip’s Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Grande Marecage. He will then meet with law enforcement officials and border patrolmen, and will take a tour of the southern border with Marirana. This visit was specifically requested by Pope Joseph, as he wishes to view first-hand the source of the growing tensions between Duquesne and Marirana. From there, he will individually meet with each of the 15 families of the fallen officers of the Grande Marecage massacre. He will spend the night in Grande Marecage. On Tuesday morning, Pope Joseph will travel to Marquette, where he will be greeted by President Swen, Vice President d’Este, and the Archbishop of Marquette, Cardinal Daniel Schwann. From there, he will drive in the “Pope Mobile” down Gerard Row, where he will be met by crowds of thousands of faithful Catholics eager to catch a glimpse of the Holy Father. He will arrive at the Capitol Building, where he will give the first ever complete address to Duquesne Congress, including the National Assembly, Each of the Provincial Representative Bodies, Provincial Governors, and Presidential Cabinet members. After his address, he will travel to the Presidential Mansion for private meetings with President Swen. On Tuesday Night, he will be hosted by President Swen and Cardinal Schwann for a Dinner at the Presidential Mansion. On Wednesday Morning, he will say a public mass at the Basilica of the Cross of Christ in Marquette. Following the mass, he will speak to the Duquesne Conference of Cardinals and Bishops, and return to Marquette International Airport, where he will depart Duquesne for Tibernum.

Continue following the SRG for continued updates on this historic Papal Visit.

FM Vinci: "We expect the Den government to ensure the safety of our diplomatic staff"
FM Vinci urges the Den government to protect Etruria's embassy as extremists stage protest in the capital, while refusing to apologise.

The Foreign Ministry has issued a statement urging the Denikert government to “ensure the safety and sanctity of our diplomatic staff in the embassy.” It comes as hundreds of Den far-right extremists have staged a protest outside the Etrurian embassy in Shamiramishen, The protesters are calling for Etruria to apologise for “war crimes” committed during the Etrurian colonial presence in Denikert, its War of Independence and the Solarian War.
Image
Foreign Minister Adriano Vinci made the statements before the press.

Yesterday, a small number of Den extremists began protesting and erecting a makeshift camp around the embassy, reportedly in response to the months-old National Dignity Act, which applies serious fines against academics and media outlets who wrongfully propagate claims Etruria committed war crimes during the Solarian War. The protesters soon gained the support of similar extremist parties, with the Righteous Path Party, Democratic Party and National Party all calling on people to blockade the embassy.

Addressing reporters, Foreign Minister Adriano Vinci said, “we are observing the situation in Shamiramshen closely and while at this time we do not believe there is a direct threat to the embassy, we no less ask the Den government to ensure the security and protection of the embassy and to ensure the safety and sanctity of our diplomatic staff.”

“Embassies are protected under international law and any assault upon them is an assault upon diplomacy itself. I am sure the Den government knows that and will do what it must to protect both” he said further.
Asked if the Etrurian government would apologise for the NDA or the claimed war crimes, Foreign Minister Vinci said, “it would be inappropriate for this government to apologise for disputed historic events. And on many occasions this government has cited that the NDA is a vital effort to confront individuals who agree these supposed events took place, to the detriment of Etruria.”

“I would like to use this opportunity to question the legitimacy and purpose of these protests. The NDA was passed several months ago and then we did not see any dangerous behaviour of this kind, now we see, these Den and Salamic extremists using protests as a means of expressing anger at the Den elections. This is inappropriate and dangerous, Etruria will not tolerate, being used as an electoral tool” he replied.

President Carcaterra’s office released a short-statement confirming that he had been informed of the situation and joined Foreign Minister Vinci in rejecting the Den demands for an apology.

“I have been informed of the situation in Shamiramshen and I am confident the Den government will ensure the safety of our diplomatic staff. Furthermore, I would like to state categorically that Etruria will never apologise for fabricated historical events that have no evidence or truth. We will never apologise for acts of the Senate produced and passed by elected officials of the Etrurian people.

“I hope therefore, the Den government will ensure that naivety and foolishness does not evolve and escalated into a crisis. We have suffered attacks upon our sovereignty in regard to diplomatic traditions and institutions, we will not tolerate a second crisis” the statement said.

More as the story develops.

Thousands of Federal Police, Auxiliary Police and Civil Security Service personnel have been deployed across Etruria, to conduct hundreds of raids on properties. The Interior Ministry has released a statement saying, “Operation Gladio has been launched to enforce the powers of the Civil Security Act, we are seeking to arrest and detain hundreds of suspects in the fight against the Corruption.” There are also numerous unconfirmed reports of gunfire outside several palazzi in Carvagna, Vicalvi and Poveglia.
Image
Federal Police have been spotted in large numbers across Etruria's major cities.

At 10.00pm, large numbers of police were reported in Vicalvi, Poveglia, Accadia, San Alessandro, Carvagna, Solaria and Voltana. They appeared to be moving to seal off streets and individual properties. Social media accounts reported loud sounds of helicopters in Vicalvi and Solaria.

At 10.15pm, eye-witnesses reported across Poveglia, Accadia and Vicalvi, armed police storming numerous properties and arresting individuals. Other videos on social media showed a vehicle being surrounded by police and those inside being dragged out and thrown into police vans. In the San Marco district of Poveglia, Federal Police were seen storming a Palazzo reportedly owned by Aurelio Pesci, the head of the Three-Islands Mafia syndicate, he was pictured being dragged out of the building and arrested.

Gunfire was reported first outside a Palazzo in Vicalvi. Similar reports soon came from eye-witnesses in Poveglia, Solaria, Accadia and several coastal towns such as San Martino, Santa Maria and Lido di Vocelli. No official information has been released on these reports.

People dining on the Via della Repubblica in Vicalvi reported seeing over 20-armed police storm a bar known for being a meeting place for “grunts” of the Black Cross Organisation, one of the most powerful Mafias in Etruria. Bystanders were pushed back by police as those inside the bar were dragged out onto the street and ordered to stand with their backs to a wall. People reported that between 20 and 35 young men were held before being placed into buses and driven away.

Social media in Imperia reported seeing military helicopters flying over a large Palazzo in the foothills north of the city, though there was no confirmation of a military deployment by the Federal Ministry of Defence.
Interestingly, tourists and travellers at Pietramontecorvino International Airport reported on social media soldiers and police entering a hangar which houses private jets and clearing out workers. Similar reports have been made of police entering marinas and ports and seizing yachts and pleasure cruises.

At 23.00pm, the Interior Ministry did release a small statement to the press. It confirmed that the government has launched a nationwide operation against the Mafia in wake of the passing of the Civil Security Act.

“At 10pm this evening, personnel, divisions and units of the Federal Police, Auxiliary Police and Civil Security Service launched Operation Gladio. Operation Gladio has been launched to enforce the powers of the Civil Security Act, we are seeking to arrest and detain hundreds of suspects in the fight against the Corruption. We urge all citizens to remain alert and to stay away from cordoned areas of police activity.

“More information will be released. We currently seek to offer a full-disclosure of events by 9am tomorrow morning.”

There’s been no comment from the Tribune Movement headquarters nor the Interior Ministry, Presidency, Vice Presidency or the commands of the Federal Police, Auxiliary Police or Civil Security Service.

We will keep you updated as we receive more information.

ANALYSIS: JACKSON-MARQUETTE TRADE AGREEMENT
The agreement, what it entails, and what it means for both Asteria and Duquesne

Analysis -

Since last week's state meeting between Presidents Avery and Swen, where the two leaders announced that they'd formulated a bold new trade agreement, economists and politicians alike have been analyzing the deal, which President Avery claims is "the first step towards fully putting Duquesne’s isolationism in the past". Both Jackson and Marquette have stressed the importance of the deal from the very moment it was announced, but what exactly does the agreement entail? What does it mean for consumers in the Federation and Duquesne, and in a broader sense, what sort of economic impact will it have?

Overall, its fair to say that the trade agreement isn't very significant on a global scale. Even regionally, the deal will likely leave no impact on most Asterian countries, with the exception of Marirana, which will lose a portion of their business with the Federation as it moves to buying coffee, chocolate, and exotic foods and spices from Duquesne. The agreement struck between the two leaders outlined a plan for the Federation to "move away from Mariranan imports in response to diplomatic tension and overall uncertainty in regards to the Asterian-Mariranan relationship" said Avery. "Not very long ago, this Administration was determined to maintain the trade relationship with Marirana in its current form. Due to recent events, and the resentment shown by Marirana towards the Asterian people, I and my administration feel it is necessary to take precautions." The Federation will continue to import Mariranan goods - primarily exotic goods - but will be cutting the amount it imports by 40%. According to President Avery, Duquesne will be filling that gap-- selling the Federation the same product for a lower price. In addition to agreements regarding exotic goods, President Swen also pledged to sell Asteria cheap metals and raw materials, and to invest in new infrastructure to better-connect the two countries.

For Duquesne, this agreement is - without a doubt - nothing short of historical. It has opened the country's isolated markets to a flood of Asterian goods and services, bringing competition, and thus setting the stage for better consumer prices, and better-quality products. It's also remarkably important to the Federation, as the opening of the markets - along with Swen's promise to eliminate tariffs for most Asterian goods - is a massive win for Asterian business-- primarily the automobile, technology, arms, and consumer goods industries. Asteria's Standard Motor Company (SMC) has already pledged to invest in opening stores and offices in Duquesne, and the company has already begun selling its vehicles through local stores.

For the first time since the Great War, the Federal Government has given a defense contractor the freedom to freely negotiate and conduct business with a foreign government directly. Typically, the Citadel serves as the "middleman" when it comes to the trade of military arms-- waiting for the all-clear by the President, and only selling equipment already owned by the Federation-- cutting out contact between the actual manufacturer. Avery allowing companies like Moseley and Hawkins to deal directly with Swen's government shows that the president has put a great deal of trust in his newfound ally. A Moseley spokesperson told members of the press that the company was "speaking with representatives from Duquesne" to "get the country up to JDF standards".

In regards to technology, the lack of trade barriers means that Silicon Valley will flood the country with their products-- from smartphones and tablets to computers, laptops, and TVs. Bell, the creator of the first domestic computer platform and the Federation's largest tech conglomerate, announced that it would be working with members of government to "launch a number of projects", specifically in education. President and CEO, billionaire Walt Bryant, told reporters: "If we can get a computer into every classroom in Duquesne, we'll be successful. If we get a computer into the hands of each student in Duquesne, they'll be successful." The company also announced that it will be offering to discounts to schools with less funding, stating that "money is a secondary issue-- children deserve an education, and we will do everything we can do give them that."

INVICTUS CLOSING CEREMONY MARK THE END OF 30TH LUDOS
Glytter's historic performance during the Invictus Games is celebrated as the games come to a close

Fireworks once again filled Spálgleann's skyline as the 30th Invictus Games came to a close.

SPÁLGLEANN – The Spálgleann 2018 Invictus Games are officially over. The three-hour event was a spectacular musical closing featuring some of the biggest names in Glytteronian music from decades past, including a number of performers who were featured in the opening ceremonies. The ceremonies ended with the official handover to the next host city, Valeins.

The official Games flag was handed to the mayor of Valeins by a Glytteronian delegation led by Spálgleann Lady Mayor Aisling Ní Fhathaigh. The delegation included HRH the Duchess of Clyte, representing the Glytteronian Royal Family, and Taoiseach Frank Casarnach, standing in for the recently sacked Minister of Culture Robert Kean.

President of the International Invictus Committee, Genoveva Bartrina, who declared the Games of the 30th Olympiad closed just before midnight, said: "We will never forget the smiles, the kindness and the support of the wonderful volunteers, the much-needed heroes of these Games".

"It is you, the spectators and the public, who provided the soundtrack for these Games. Your enthusiastic cheers energized its competitors and brought a festive spirit to each and every venue".

Soon after she spoke, Glytter's Ashling performed her 1980's hit Thank You for the Music. As she sang the flame at Millennial Stadium was extinguished and the games closed. Fireworks went off during the performance as white and purple confetti filled the stadium.

The finale paid tribute to Glytteronian music, fashion, and culture.

The closing ceremonies featured some of Glytter's best performers, many of which were only seen for brief moments during the opening ceremonies. The Duchess, who previously sang a duet with Ashling, offered a mash-up of her greatest hits and did not disappoint. She was joined by No Direction, the group to which HRH the Duke of Bulfawst belongs, in performers who made an appearance in both ceremonies.

The games saw Songguo, Negara, and the Federation of Asteria place first, second, and third - taking home the most gold medals, medals, and the three wreaths awarded.

Glytter took tenth place, tying with Satucin, for its best ever performance in a summer games. It won eight gold medals and forty two overall. The success follow's Glytter's much celebrated victory in the women's football tournament on Friday, besting Nematsu for the gold medal.

While the Invictus Games come to an end, their legacy for Glytter will be one of triumph - both on the field and off. The country has hosted two winter games before, but never a summer games. As Glytter prepares to mark the two-year anniversary of the 23 August Attacks, some feared the nation would be unable to provide security for the games. However, the Invictus Games went on without incident. Last week, Spálgleann police confirmed that the accident that saw the death of Gaullican fencing star Adrien Parmentier was an accident, the unfortunate result of aggressive driving, not a terrorist attack as some in the Glytteronian and international press had speculated. Mr. Parmentier was paid a special tribute during the closing ceremonies and he was awarded a posthumous key to the city by Spálgleann's Lady Mayor.

The 2022 games will take place in the Valentiri capital of Valeins.

200,000,000 people are expected to depart daily from Glytter's three international airports. Extra ferries to Continental Euclea have been scheduled to accommodate high traffic and two additional Euclostar trains are scheduled daily.

HIS HOLINESS' FIRST DAY IN DUQUESNE
Amidst growing tensions within the J.D.F and abroad, the Pope's trip to Duquesne coincides with a great build up between Marirana and Duquesne.

Grande Macarage, Duquesne -

His Holiness arrived in Grande Macarage, Duquesne, today - becoming the first Pope, seating or otherwise, to visit the nation. Duquesne's premier news service, the SRG, highlighted that for the "Catholic Church in Duquesne, this is a historic event." drawing on the state's decades of self-imposed isolation. The Catholic Church, in this time, was one of the few global actors conducting business in Duquesne.

Stepping off of the Etrurian aircraft delegated for these historic functions, Pope Joseph was met at Grande Macarage's airport by a large contingent of the faithful from across Duquesne. They waved banners of their regional provinces, towns and cities, with placards highlighting their trek to come meet the head of their faith. The mayor of Grand Macarage was also present, the first official from Duquesne that his Holy Father met. The two took a convoy to St. Phillip's Cathedral, the focal centre of faith in the Archdiocese of Grand Macarage, but not before His Holiness took photographs with a few of the lucky faithful.

In his accented Gaullican, Joseph gave a heartfelt sermon at the Cathedral. He called upon the "grand tragedies" of the southern portions of Asteria Superior, highlighting events in the Mariranan Insurgency such as the Ospletto Incident, numerous drone strikes. However, true to the nature of his visit to Duquesne he touched upon the Marecage Massacre, whereby he named the officers by name. "Never could one want this to happen. We must pray for them, their families -- and thank them from our hearts. We must praise God for their work and praise them for never failing in their line of duty."

"It cannot be denied that this tragedy that has hurt so many in Duquesne stems too from the evil conflict that the Mariranan Insurgency represents. War is nondiscriminatory, as we have been tragically reminded so often."

His sermon ended on lighter notes, thanking the people of Duquesne for their commitment to the faith and reminding them all that Sotiras is with them, always. He also concluded on the point that in trying times, one must always look out for 'their neighbour' and asked that the people of Duquesne come together as a community to weather the storm. Controversially, some have argued, Joseph also stated that "the people of Marirana are your neighbours, too -- and we must understand that they are our brothers and sisters in the faith, as well."

Following the sermon, His Holiness spent time with the families of the fallen police officers that had come to attend the mass. He spent time conversing amongst the closest relatives of the policemen, thanking their families for their dedication and for their late relative's service.

Before his day had ended, the Pope traveled alongside law enforcement agents to the notorious wall on Duquesne's southern border. Conversing with the locals along the way, our correspondents inform us that the Pope was jovial and 'uplifting', lighthearted in an attempt to raise the spirits of those traveling with him -- to match their own enthusiasm.

However, he turned more somber upon arriving at the border wall.

With a hand placed upon it, as supervised by the Gallois officers, the Pope began speaking of the solidarity that mankind must find themselves in in trying times. He brought a large emphasis on the "interconnectedness of the communities of Asteria Superior" and how in "our modern world, a wall will not stop the outside. It must not stop the outside, the people beyond this structure are your brothers and sisters in the faith." "It is partly because of this wall that Mariranans and Gallois in your country find themselves at odds, it is because of this edifice that people see resentment and hate in the eyes of their fellow Sotirians. I must ask you, in your hearts, that enough is enough."

This concluded the Pope's first day in Duquesne. He arrived back in Grande Marecage later on in the evening, whereby he stayed. His itinerary for the rest of the visit includes traveling to Marquette tomorrow -- where he will meet President Swen and Cardinal Schwann, amongst others, before addressing the Gallois Congress.

ORKNEY, PLATERDAM -
Platerdam’s northern coast has been rocked by a powerful earthquake that was felt across the entire country and sent people rushing out into the streets hundreds of kilometres away in the capital, Orkney.

The Asterian Geological Survey said a 7.3-magnitude earthquake had struck off the South Asterian country’s northern coast at 5.31pm local time on Tuesday, east of the city of Casmere at a depth of 123km (76 miles). The Platterdamer Geological Service said it was a 7.0-magnitude quake.

Several buldings have been damaged and are on the verge of falling down, estimates of hundreds of injured people are rising, surprisingly no deceased have been reported.

Phone lines have been cut down and emergency services are working as hard as they can to rescue and aid people.

The confusing moments after the quake were captured on state television as Tommy Saunders, one of Platerdam’s most powerful politicians, was delivering a speech at a rally. “Earthquake!” many members of the audience cried, pointing to the ground, as Saunders and others looked from side to side.

“I had never felt such a strong earthquake,” tweeted Mary Bucattini, a journalist who was in Steer at the time of the quake, alongside images of people running out of a supermarket.

Platerdammer Interior Affairs' minister, Nestor Reverol, tweeted: “We call on all of the people of Platerdam to remain calm.” Authorities were ready to deal with “any emergency”, he added.

In a short address to the nation Reverol added: “We want to inform you … that at 5.31 we had a 6.3 magnitude earthquake [that] was felt in various states of the country [including] Tarnstead, Falcon, Springcastle, Steer, and the capital. So far there have been no reports of any casualties,” the minister said.

In a statement, Platerdam’s seismological research foundation said it recommended “keeping calm since acts of this nature are normal in Platerdam, since we live in a seismic country”. The earthquake also was felt in near countries and territories.

The Asterian Tsunami Warning Center (ATWC) issued an initial tsunami warning for the Platerdammer coast. It later updated its alert, stating: “There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake." However, people near the coast are still asked to remain “observant" and to exercise "caution" near the ocean. The ATWC explained that sea fluctuations "up to 30 cm" above or below normal tide levels may still occur over the course of the next few hours.

Vice President d’Este Gives a Speech About JDF Induction

Marquette
This morning, Vice President d’Este announced that he would not be running for another term as Vice President. d’Este, who turns 79 in November, says “While it has been a true honor and privilege to serve alongside President Swen during his terms as President, I am getting too old for the job”, adding, “I wish to spend the remainder of my life with my family, and out of the political scene”.

President Marques Swen issued a statement regarding d’Este’s announcement, saying, “It has been an honor to serve with Vice President d’Este for all of these years. His work in the de-isolation movement in our country for the past 50 years helped Duquesne see the recent successes seen today, such as the JDF induction and the major trade deal with The Federation. I look forward to achieving continued success with Vice President d’Este for the remainder of his lifetime in Public Service.”

Jean-Luc B. d’Este was born on June 2nd, 1939 in Charbonne to a fisherman’s family. His father owned two fishing boats, which he operated on the rivers and lakes connecting Lac Transversale. The oldest of 4 boys, Jean was a pivotal member of his father’s fishing business from an early age. He began attending school at the St. Ambrose Academy in Transversale, Charbonne at the age of 6. He graduated from high school in 1951, and did not attend college. Rather, he began working in a de-isolation activist group, working in the Charbonne Provincial Senate with its “de-isolation” caucus. He was able to rise in the civilian ranks in the de-isolation movement, and gain public popularity, which was able to get him elected as his local district’s local representative in 1960. He served 2 terms as a representative, before he was elected as the governor of Charbonne in 1974. He served as Governor of Charbonne from 1974-1988, when he decided not to run for re-election, but instead hoped at a nomination to the National Assembly by his successor. He was nominated, and served as Charbonne’s National Assemblyman until 2005. During this time period, he was also nominated to the position of Vice Chairman of the Christian Democratic Party. He became close friends and an important political ally of Chairman, and Assemblyman from Terre-Moyenne, Marques Swen. In 2004, they announced their campaign for the offices of president and vice president. They won the election by a 9-6 vote, and were inaugurated in the spring of 2005. Since then, d’Este and Swen have been pushing pro de-isolation legislation and policies, which recently culminated with Duquesne’s induction into the JDF, and the recent trade deal with The Federation. d’Este called the JDF induction his premier political achievement, saying, “Spending your whole life fighting for an issue in politics, and to see what you have been working towards your whole life come to fruition, is something that every politician dreams of. I am honored to have been one of these people, and I will always treasure this public service mission that I accomplished with President Swen, and countless others throughout my career.”

Vice President d’Este will be honored at a banquet at the Presidential Mansion in October, and will be presented with a Presidential Medal of Freedom for his lifetime of public service to Duquesne. His last day in office will be January 14th, 2019.

Overseer Hamlin makes statement on Nimear-Federation spat

STEINHAFEN, EISENKUSTE - STEINHAFEN, EISENKUSTE -

National Overseer Hannibal Hamlin has made a brief statement from the Graues Haus to address the President of Nimear's statement on Asteria, alleging that the the Asterian FIS was involved in a coup attempt done by a group of military officers against the Nimearian government.

"Blame Asteria! Blame Asteria! Shouting it does not make it true. This is nothing more than more blowharding from Nimear's government in yet another petty attack against Asteria. Blame Asteria! Blame Asteria! Nimear truly is desperate if they take the word of a man accused of treason. The fact that the international community is taking this foolish, petty nonsense serious is a disturbing indiction of the modern political climate and the bias of anti-Asterianism."

The Overseer continued. "I do not claim that Asteria is entirely innocent in everything that the Asterian government has done, but given the track record of the Nimearian government and the lack of evidence, the truthfulness of this claim is obviously thoughtful. It is the same with the endless name-calling. President Sven of Duqense defended the Federation, so obviously Duqense is a puppet state! This is the kind of foolishness and black and white nonsense that should be ignored in mass by the international community. Eisenkuste stands with Asterian, and will continue to do so until actual evidence is unearthed, which I have my doubts about."

On January 17th, the Nimeran government revealed that one of the accused coup plotters, Captain Jurren van Deek made a claim that the Asterian FIS funneled money to the coup planners in a attempt to oust President Koeaara's government in Nimear. . Asteria has denied the accusations and has stated that they will question the veracity of the claims. Many other nations from the international community have made statements on the matter, such as President Sven of Duqense, who also questioned the credibility of the claim. Nimear's government has stated that they will take their claim to the ICD (International Council for Democracy) and the Community of Nations.
