This is silly, but I seriously doubt they'll rename the whole city for this, they might rename a street or a park, but this probably won't go far, so I don't believe it's something to get worked up over.

I mean if they have a new name that's cooler, I might be somewhat in favor. But I don't really have a dog in this fight regardless of how I feel so it doesn't really matter. This up to Austin, TX and they'll probably preserve the status quo.

Its getting crazy on how people think they are avoiding racism when they are creating it, the people that call the city name racists are trying to make the city name racists so it fits thier agenda really. Plus, i guess we need to rename anything after George Washington too since he owned slaves? See how ridiculous that is?

I just moved to Austin to work at the Airport but I'm also born and raised Texan. If they change the name let them but they should be perfectly willing to give up their staus as the capital of Texas and the title of capital of Texas should go to cities like San Antonio, Dallas Fort Worth, or Houston.

Of course their racism was their only trait. Can't memorialize them for anything else they might have accomplished.

To be honest, the answer for me would be to not memorialise any of 'em (that goes for Dutchmen as well, in my case).

Maybe make a memorial for a random cat, that sounds nice.

Or otherwise judge the statue by its artistic quality. If it's shit, off with its head.

How as the American Revolution not treason? Here's a hint: Look at who won what and wrote the history books.

Let's not destroy a piece of history because a person who died over a hundred years ago supported a horrible institution. There have even been arguments to remove statues of our founding fathers because they're "offensive", and I find that absolutely ridiculous. If your so offended by our nations history, then leave. There are countries in Europe that support the destruction of their own culture, they'd be happy to accept you.

I know it's not related to the thread but I say we should do what the SJW and the left are doing let's remove all of them because they offend us....is that how I do it remove something that I find offensive?

Well then everything in the US needs a name change including things named after Native Americans, African Americans, European Americans, etc just because you find something offensive doesn't mean you need to erase it.
