It is interesting that the Carbineers will have a greater impetus to uphold the law, because I had the idea of the battalion evolving into a Gendarmerie unit.

Captain App
Character Name: Klaus Adler
Age: 28
Appearance:
Strengths: Klaus is a veteran soldier and quick thinker, being able to quickly adapt to situations. He is often charismatic, being able to inspire a sense of loyalty to his troops (furthermore is not afraid to go in dirty with the rest of his troops when it comes to combat). He is skilled in both marksmanship and melee weapons and has a keen mind on tactics. He is also very sociable and friendly, willing to work with others easily, and does not really have any biased views when it comes to things like race and social standing.
Weaknesses: Sometimes, Klaus has an issue with following orders, sometimes thinking that his decision is better then those on top, and is not afraid to exploit sudden opportunities, even if it means breaking formation. He also despises those that think simply because of their social standing that they're automatically superior to everyone else both in terms of mind and skill (depends on whether they can actually back their claim), which automatically makes him have high tension with many different aristocrats (though this is strictly confined to those arrogant sorts, he doesn't hate those who are, for example, simply naive)
Personality: Klaus is a sociable person, rarely getting angry and always willing to crack a joke even in the worst of situations. He is often very cordial with other people and is always willing to help in different situations. Though at the same time, Adler will not tolerate things like race-hate and such from other people and is able to be strict when needed. Klaus is also not really religious, only going to such services for appearance's sake, preferring not to have his fate in the hands of some apparently almighty omnipotent beings. Though despite this Adler still learns about such religious texts, as Klaus also has a very curious streak, often wanting to learn anything and everything about everything around him.
Biography: Klaus Adler was born into the Adler Noble Family, a wealthy family with a high standing in Dallic society. The Adler family had a long proud history of militants who had both fought for and against the Empire, so naturally, Klaus was to be next in line for this great legacy. During his early years, Klaus had a profound interest in military tactics and history, and his hobbies included marksmanship, hunting, and fencing. Klaus began his military education at the age of 17, along with his two childhood best friends, Erich Landa, of House Landa (another rich and militant family which has had a strong alliance with the Adlers since the days of the Early Empire), and Drostan Campbell of the Minor House of Campbell (initially a high society family in a nation called Kraddle, it was among the first nations that were invaded and incorporated into the Empire many years ago. The family eventually once again rose to minor prominence as a vassal of House Adler, serving the House loyaly) at Reichstadt Royal Military Officer Academy, one of the most renowned across the Empire. All 3 completed their training 3 years later with flying colours and gained the ranks of 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation.
Klaus and Co. would at first serve in a militia battalion, where they would see action against several local rebellions and raids on the border and frontier of the Empire. After two years of service in the militia, Klaus and Co. would be transferred to a proper line infantry battalion, where they would see service in more official campaigns, against both neighbours and more large-scale bandit groups and rebellions. During one event, Klaus and Co. would visit a Military Academy as visitors from the frontlines and would come upon a young woman who was an officer cadet in the Academy. She came from a rather rural background, her father having formally been a soldier of the Empire which is what inspired her to join up. Her lack of aristocratic blood, along with her gender, meant that she was singled out for bullying by other fellow cadets. However, the young woman was also at the top of her class, having the highest scores and potential in various classes: from tests to physical training and exercises. This only increased her being bullied, but her scores and her will to thrive despite these bullyings made Klaus see a lot of potential. So during his time in the Academy, Klaus would constantly support the young woman, giving her advice and tips, the two quickly forming a tight bond and friendship (the young woman would also form bonds with both Erich and Drostan). When Klaus and Co. eventually left once again back to their battalion, the young woman would never forget them. Which was why about a year later, one Elisa Rockwood would graduate from the Academy at the top of her class with the rank of Lieutenant and, after some scouraging, would arrive in Klaus's Battalion and quickly joined their "inner circle".
Klaus would serve in the Line Infantry Battalion for 3 years before deciding to transfer to the Light Infantry at age 25. You see, Klaus's view on warfare changed when their formation had been ambushed in thick woods by bandits during a march. Klaus, being the observant type, quickly found that while the line infantry had been in total disarray from the attack, clearly unused to combat in this fashion, the Light Infantry and Native Auxiliaries quickly adapted to the situation, and most effectively beat back the bandits. After the event, Klaus would start studying the tactics and traits of such units, getting information and advice from the various light infantry and auxiliary commanders, where he would come to respect the culture of the various native auxiliaries, as well as the abilities of the light infantry and skirmishers, of which many Line Infantrymen thought as either inferior or unnecessary.
Successfully being retrained and sent to the light infantry, Klaus and Co. would continue their military service, Klaus achieving the rank of First Lieutenant. Eventually, Klaus's Battalion would be transferred to fight in the War in Acc, where he and his friends would fight admirably in for the next few years, gaining much needed experience in various areas of warfare. There Klaus gained a keen mind on strategy, performing many ambushes and scouting missions. By the end of the war in Acc, Klaus would be transferred to the Province of Dangomor after pissing off his superior during a battle. When assigned, Klaus and Co. would organise, form and train their own Battalion of Light Infantry which they would named Erika's Jägers, named after a legendary sharpshooter who was said to be one of (if not the) the best marksman (or in this case, woman) in the Empire's Military History. Now Klaus and his Battalion March to the supposedly backwater area, and see where the wind sends them off to.

Description: Made up of frontiersmen and hunters across the Empire, these soldiers are often made up of marksman as well as those who have served in local militias on the border and the more unstable regions of the Empire, all of them coming from the background of commoners. Many of them are crack shots, having hunted in the countryside for most of their lives, and many also have had experienced fighting against native revolts, earning them valuable combat experience. Though they know how to follow orders at a relatively competent rate, they lack high discipline. Erika's Jägers is also a mixed battalion, being made up of both men and women, Klaus only caring about the skill the soldiers have in marksmanship.

Not going to post mine, though, since (in my head, anyway) my character's fairly new to this whole place and doesn't actually know anybody - the reverse, of course, isn't necessarily true, as the news of a "Semi-savage" battalion from a far corner of the empire coming to Dangomor would no doubt be the talk of the town. Any introductions and insights would probably come from our first meeting, the aforementioned dinner with the Colonel. I'll definitely dedicate a post to highlight my insights about each other battalion once we get the RP going, though!

The inner city is walled, but it holds no military district. The soldiers are housed in barracks at the southern outskirts of the city, with a parade ground and some open fields for drilling. About a mile out from the docks in the inner city where the soldiers are arriving.

Your opening post said we havs to find our own room and board. Does that mean we have to fight for space in the barracks, or will there be enough room for three or so thousand soldiers?

Would we arrive by boat or is Dangomor connected via land to the heartlands?

Well, I now know what Fletcher the 44th is doing in the morning, well after what I assume will be a small parade. I was also wondering how deployments and patrols and such would work. I assume we'll be visiting the various towns and settlements around the province, but I'm more interested in the town time, as I would assume we would also have time to train and drill our soldiers as well?

That seems like something that's up to us. We're the Captains, we decide what to do with our troops in the absence of orders from the Colonel or higher ups.
