Cosneolta National Hockey Team

The small nation of 400,000 will enter yet another World Cup of Hockey after reaching the World Cup of Hockey's knockout stages for the first time in the nations history. While the team is made up of free agents and university students, the team has been to the previous four Cups of Hockey, narrowly missing out on the knockout stages in two of the four previous editions, before qualifying for the knockout rounds in the Free Republics in the previous tournaments. They return with the same formula as the previous editions with the players and coaching now able to put their string of experience in their proverbial bow. They enter with a ranking of 13, meaning they will only have to hold their group seeding to advance to the knockout rounds, as they were drawn fron Pot 2, and the top two of six qualify for the knockouts. It will be an uphill battle from here on out, but with the majority of the nation watching at home, they have the backing of Cosneolta and many neutrals looking for an underdog to support.

Day in the Life of a Quebecois - Gerhard Lassonde

Part 1 - Monday, 06:00

Monday

Spiritair Flight 168, Skies over Montreal

It was six-thirty in the morning when Gerhard Lassonde woke up. It was at the near-end of the seven hour flight between St. Jakob am der Drai, Siovanija and Teusland. It was the intraregional flight that spanned from the southern end of the Atlantian Oceania to just south of the polar region (in a relative sense). Operated by Celestar Ce-510, Spiritair’s daily service was one of the highest-yielding flights in the Spiritair’s Montreal flights.

The flight was a pretty simple one for him; sitting in the premium economy seat he was upgraded by 5,000 mile points, Gerhard had a little bit more legroom than most flights he would take for research trips or international conferences. Earlier in the flight, he had the midnight snack, a small bowl of instant noodles that he associated his undergraduate days with, and went straight to sleep for six hours. While on most other times he would enjoy the IFE system and watch some classic films, he chose to get himself some sleep before the metropolis greet him in Montreal. It was a Monday morning on this lousy month of June, and like true Quebecois he detested the heat the summer brought.

After slowly getting himself back in motion, Gerhard started fixing his resume, which he had to update to the times after leaving it all the same the past six months:

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Farrer University Montreal, Montreal
Ph.D. Researcher August 2032 - present

After a brief look into the section about research experience, Gerhard immediately got tired. Might be better to leave it to this afternoon, when I’m back in office, Gerhard thought to himself, as he wrote few notes down from his recollections of 19th-century Teus houses before quickly stopping.

His heart just wasn’t in anything right now. Gerhard had a lousy dream a couple of nights ago, while sleeping on the guest room in his friend Eddie's place in St. Jakob am der Drai. He had dreamt that he was in the departure lounge of Montreal Regimbault Airport's Terminal 5. He was watching the planes come and go, but with his "supposed wife", shaped in the silhouettes of his current girlfriend. The bright sun of the Spring afternoon was glazing all over the lounge's abstract statues and its marble floor, and it was as quiet as he could imagine. Right behind them, their three kids were sleeping quietly in the lounge. Guess he didn't imagine that far into the future but apparently he did, according to this state of subconsciousness he was under. And for one he liked this idea of his life. Sure it meant that even in the dreams he would travel and have some airplane food but as a foreigner whose pleasure often came from flying far and away for conferences and researches, there was nothing bad he could find about the lounge.

It was five thirty in that morning when Gerhard woke up with a grunt. Feeling thirsty, he looked through the accidentally-opened door of the master bedroom to see Eddie Yoon and his Teus girlfriend, Jill Cinika, sleeping like an adorable shape of fur. That look immediately had him sigh on the blurry bluey hues of the early morning of St. Jakob am der Drai. When they were wee little freshmen in Farrer University, they were still struggling to figure out their place in the world. Eddie and Gerhard had promised each other that they're going to be evenly-paced in this halfway through that year, a promise that was never kept.

It was only three years ago when Eddie Yoon, after a yearlong convo from this carefully and nervously planned DM to this hot Teus chick three years younger than him, decided that he had enough of life in Quebec and left to Siovanija and Teusland to meet this Jill. No way was the very exact phrase Gerhard said to him, as he heard about it over the History Formal. Gerhard, like most of their respective friends, thought this was a crazy idea and that he’s going to come back broken in both pocket and mind. It just didn’t make sense.

But somehow it worked and he was jealous. Nowadays, Eddie Yoon broke past the chains of starving artist status and found himself a stable job and engagement with a beautiful woman, while Gerhard was only halfway through his doctorate and he could only see Regina so often. As he was giving himself a presentation of his papers about the Novopetrogradian Emigre literature history in the annual International Conference of Emigrate Literature Studies, this caught him out of loop and left him thinking throughout the day, until his departure gate at the airport around 21:30.

Of course he knew the life was not getting anywhere near his dream. He didn't give a fuck on living a normal life anyway - being a South-Detroiter in Montreal already had you stand out - but he really wanted his life to be more than just series of discords. Clearly that wasn't happening for the couple in their twenties of Gerhard Lassonde, the doctorate student, and Regina Farraday, a Montreal West End actress. While they complemented each other very well, their lifestyle simply consisted of contrasting schedules, terrible sleeping patterns and little money on savings account.

Perhaps that's how he had expected the life to come by and screw him over, albeit with contentment. He was still grateful he met a phenomenal partner, and that he was living out somewhat And this was a good thing for the man as well. That way the life would screw you over, far and blown away from your every goal, but would still provide you happiness. Perhaps that's all it mattered.

Back in his window seat, Gerhard lifted his window to see the sunrise from afar. The golden sun, slowly lifting his face up from the blanket of the Nyx, was shining upon the city of 10 million from far distance. While the city’s spread out in all four directions, it was the city’s core that nonetheless drew the attention to most. With the Mont-Royal and hillside mansions of the Golden Square Mile as the background, the Downtown Montreal was blessed with the engrafts of the mother nature in its harmony with the surrounding environment.

The Greystone four-storey buildings of Downtown Montreal, in its Arlenian (imagine Victorian era) and Alexandrian (Edwardian) architecture style, harmonised perfectly with the art-deco skyscrapers that came along afterwards. Boasting in the former Quebecois Empire’s might and the darker side of glory that still basks in the global metropolis to this day, Montreal to him reminded him of the Cheongho, the Buddhist-futurist kingdom from the Superhero blockbuster film and concept album Baekho.
It’s often said that the Cheongho itself was envisioned to represent the Lhasaian resistance against Qiqi, in its holy self. He disagreed with that, for he preferred to look deeper into the visions it presented from past and asked into those of the future. To Gerhard, Montreal was doing exactly what Cheongho was doing to young Asiatics across the Multiverse- it was the city of hopes and dreams, the night and day, and most importantly the city where the dreams came into bloom and lovers would rejoice. And often, the idea of loving would form in different surfaces and extents, which would show through Eddie’s voyage of no return to Siovanija and Teusland and of course our protagonist’s journey throughout his week.

Lycrabon has decent start, ties Valanora 2-2

ANTHOR - The Lycrabon Lake Monsters had an impressive start to the Hockey World Cup, tying 6th-ranked Valanora 2-2 today. Ireland (1st, 12:16) and Sheppard (3rd, 10:18) scored the Monsters goals, and Tom Marin stopped 29 of 31 shots.

‭Xue Gong sat in his office at the Ministry of Culture, sipping tea and catching up on paperwork. Chinese tea. He had never developed a taste for the butter tea the locals drank in the imperial capital.

‭There were reports from the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Metaphysics regarding the recent kidnapping of Jigme Sherpa, a notoriously nationalistic and politically incorrect football star. The case had originally been picked up by the local police, but when the Taliban announced they were behind it, the national authorities got involved. The Ministry of Metaphysics said that the Taliban was holding Jigme hostage in a place where magic was suppressed, which prevented it being located by any random shaman that went looking. The Ministry of Defense was working on finding the place by non-magical means, but they didn't have any good leads yet. In the meantime, football fans were up in arms and the story was all over the news.

‭Not that Xue Gong could do anything about it, other than keeping up with the news, urging people to stay calm, and offering his thoughts and prayers.

‭He moved on to the next thing: Group assignments for the World Cup of Hockey. The Sherpa Empire had been assigned to Group 5, along with ‬Anthor, Cosumar, Gergary, Benin-Togo,
and The Authoritan Republic of Lochario. Gong face-palmed. The Authoritarian Republic of Lochario were the putzes that had rioted during the previous summer's World Cup. Being placed in a group with them, on top of all the fuss about the Taliban kidnapping Jigme Sherpa, meant that the Sports Department would definitely need to beef up security for the national hockey team. A lot of Sherpa athletes were in the habit of traveling with their families, arranging their own lodging on road trips, and wandering off without body guards to see the sights between games. Xue Gong didn't really blame them -- after all, who was going to pick a fight with some big burly hockey player? -- but he didn't want to risk the media circus that would ensue if one of the players came to harm. So this time, they would have body guards.

----o-֎-o----

‭The Sherpa national hockey team got off to a good start against Gergary. Having never played against Gergary before, and having very little contact in the way of trade or diplomacy, they weren't sure what to expect. What they got was an opponent struggling to find their grove.

‭Jiyon Wu was on fire. Not literally, of course, but metaphorically speaking... He scored 3 of the game's 6 goals and picked up an assist setting up Gyalpo for another one.

The Sour Kind
"I only know one thing, that is I know nothing"

World Cup Of Hockey 36 | Timothy Jozua

The Minnows or the Dragons or the Lions, however you like to call it will be embarking on their first WCOH in a really really long time. This time round, the team will be headed by Epifanio Kike, another unknown Maplish manager in the multiverse scene but he is rather well known in the Maplish hockey scene. An academy coach for Golden Phoenix, Kike specialises in developing youth talent for the club. He took on the national team with the club role recently as he was confident in tackling the WCOH with somewhat limited or zero multiverse experience. Together with him is the young assistant manager from the Outlying Territories, Anastasio Natanael, a full time dentist and a semi-professional coach with the Struggait University ice-hockey team. Don't expect the team to go big this time round as the lack of multiverse experience from the entire squad as a whole will not do the team any good. The Minnows are drawn into Group 7 with the following nations;

Group 7
Vilita and Turori (2)
Cosneolta (13)
St. Saratoga (29)
Northwest Kalactin (34)
Mapletish (UR)
Routcher (UR)

The group favourites are Vilita and Turori2 who will most certainly make it to the knockout rounds and make easy work of the group here, which is rounded up by Cosneolta13, St.Saratoga29 and Northwest Kalactin34 as the 4 ranked teams in this group, while the Minnows and Routcher are the unranked sides. Getting out of this group will not be easy for the Minnows and they will hope to get a result against Routcher and maybe pull off a few shock wins against Northwest Kalactin and St. Saratoga to at least try and make it out of the group alive and not finish at the bottom of the group. The Minnows are also expected to field a very aggressive and offensive playing style and that has always been the preferred playing style by many of the Mapletish National Hockey League teams.

Players to watch
GK - Johnson Rasmus, Golden Phoenix
Rasmus, the shotstopper for the Minnows in Line 1 will be one of the players to watch. Athletic, agile and calm for his position, he had a successful season with Golden Phoenix which saw him leading his team to a maiden title, ending Home United's grip on the MNHL. Captain for Golden Phoenix at only 24 years old, there is a lot to be said for this young man. His presence on the rink is very much feared by his opponents and also his teammates. Known to have an eccentric playing style on the rink, we will never know what kind of tricks he has up his sleeves. He is known to be versatile and adopts a few styles in his goaltending, with some tendencies of course. Most of the time, he is known to stand up for the most part of the match making the top half of the net a priority and will get down quick enough to defend pucks at the lower half of the net. Although, standup goal tending is a dying art, Rasmus does it well and this style has certainly increased his visibility of the playing surface and also allows him to adjust his positioning mid-play somewhat easily. At other times, you will Rasmus in a semi-butterfly and standup style, allowing him to provide equal coverage to the top half and bottom half of the goalposts. His calm demeanour could be mistaken for timidity here as he's known to make decibel shattering shouts to get his line in shape and at the same time scaring the living hell out of his opponents.

C - Clemente Luciano, Home United
The key man for Home United and the main man for the Minnows in Line 1, Clemente Luciano. Known for his exceptional vision, intelligence and creativity, he can operate both in the attack and the defence, making use of the flexibility in his positioning to cover more ice surface, both his personal preference and sometimes as a matter of coaching tactics. However, despite that, Luciano, has offensive tendencies and will look to improve his scoring chances by dropping down to Line 2 should he feel that that there is a need to. He's also the tough man on the rink and the combination of size, strength and speed meant instilling fear into both his teammates and his opponents. Known for his heavy body checks even in the middle of the rink and his tough tackling in the defence. However, he is not an enforcer as what others would mistake him for, his presence on the rink instills discipline from both sides on the rink even if he stars in the first line. His skills with his temperament made him a frightening combination to go up against. The captain of the Minnows for this WCOH, he's the role model for most of the younger members of the team and rarely fights on the rink despite his tough man presence as it simply deters people from getting into fights.

DF - Florentino Jordán, Club Atletico
More puck winning than the referee who drops the puck. A zone-to-zone player, Jordán prides his playing style on the speed that he is comfortable of reaching on the skates. Participating a little aggressively on the team's offence and also playing his duty extensively on the team's defence. Known to force his opponents to the corner quickly as he closes down on his opponent at lightening fast rates and blocking both passing and shooting lanes with his agility and quick reflexes. He is a key man on the defensive. On the attack, he hangs around, ready to unleash his slap shot or his long shots which are threatening on the opponent's goal. He's also quick to catch on offensive breakaways since he sits a little deeper in the opponent's offence most of the time. His back-peddling skating style is also quick as compared to his front end skating abilities.

All in all, don't expect too much from the Minnows side here, even with their 3 podium finishes in their earlier ventures in the World Cup of Hockey.

Minnows 0-6 Cosneolta; Minnows welcome opening match with a defeat

The Minnows started off the match calmly, trying to take control from the get go, clustering up in a quick passing play to try and open up Cosneolta's defence but to no avail, the Minnows finished off the first minute with a direct shot on goal against Cosneolta's Kainer Gabradik and Gabradik blocked the puck from the bottom right corner excellently with his right leg. The Minnows' best chance for the first minutes of the match stopped just right there as they were only able to put in another 3 shots for the rest of the first period, which was largely dominated by the confident Cosneolta. Cosneolta began their exploits with a great combination play from behind Artur Almeinar calmly controlled the puck following a relief of pressure from Ignush Candieva from the onrushing Dudley Buckholz from Mapletish. Almeinar then brought the puck up and confronted the onrushing Buckholz bravely and slid one across his stick-less side and zoomed past the latter and relayed a quick pass over to Martin Danshevieva who skillfully turned from the defending Florentino Jordán who could only frustratingly watched as he put one in the middle for Ignush Candieva for the 18 year old to score Cosneolta's first goal in the 7th minute. Cosneolta 1-0 Mapletish.

Mapletish would put up a response to this attacking play and won the faceoff next with Clemente Luciano attempting a quick turn away from Ignush Candieva after the former won the faceoff and he took on Martin Danshevieva and Magreta Kandikova individually as they attempted to squeeze him out with a double team. Luciano escaped fast and put a quick slap shot off the dribble to register the second of the Minnows four shots in the first period, which went agonisingly close to the cross bar and into the hands of Gabradik who heaved a sigh of relief from the entire play. Epifanio Kike could only punched the side of the boards on the sidelines as he mourned over the close chance.

In the 12th minute, Cosneolta tried another attacking move, this time down the boards. A wonderful one two play on the right board between Tobias Kadzikelic and Magreta Kandikova found the end of the stick of Kandikova who went body first in a body check by Tiburcio Fran and both men did not back down from the encounter. Fran would get the upper hand and won the puck back but he was knocked over by Cosneolta's Artur Aleminar in support of his teammate and stole the puck away from Fran. As Fran picked himself up quickly, Aleminar had already attempt a relay pass towards Ignush Candieva who tapped the puck towards Danshevieva and Rasumus went right in the way of the puck and saved the puck in the nick of time before Danshevieva could attempt a shot.

Another similar incident happened in the 15th minute, but this time on the left boards. Relaying a neat combination between Artur Aleminar and Martin Danshevieva, they found the end of stick of Ignush Candieva who cut into the middle and attempt a shot on goal. Clemente Luciano reacted quickly and threw himself in the direction of the shot as he skated speedily towards the middle. The shot deflected off Luciano and went into the path of Artur Almeinar who scored the 2nd goal for Cosneolta with a neat slap shot towards the top left corner of Rasmus's net. Cosneolta 2-0 Mapletish.

The Fireykop present in the arena could only rallied together and burst out song after song in an attempt to rally the Minnows who fell behind quickly and were seemingly having difficulty to pick up the pieces in their first multiverse encounter in a long time. That somehow reignited the Minnows a little as they started piling on pressure in an attempt to end the first period with a goal to play catch up against Cosneolta. Cosneolta could only watch as the fanciful Florentino Jordán played a high puck towards Clemente Luciano waiting in the offense zone and he relayed the puck over to Ángel Gabriel who happened to be on Gabradik's blind side. Gabriel thought it would be a simple shot into goal but he was denied by the sides of the goalpost much to his annoyance as he clenched his stick and buried his face in his hands for the close encounter with the goal. The first period ended with the Minnows on the chasing end of the match up.

With the first period behind both teams, the second period was a much closer affair but it was the Minnows who put in the focus to attack while Cosneolta sat back and maintained their shape more rigidity in their attempts to frustrate the Minnows and pull off offensive breakaways when they find the opportunities to. Although it would a period in which both sides failed to put the puck in the net, it was an offensively charged period. The Minnows won the starting playoff for the period and immediately got to action, relaying the pucks comfortably in their own half before advancing out into the boards of the rinks. Their first attempt opened right up in the 2nd minute of the 2nd period. As the 5 outfielders of Cosneolta stayed closed and rigidly in shape, Jordán remained firm on his puck and spotted some gaps in the Cosneolta's defence a gap between Martin Danshevieva and Tobias Kadzikelic which was quickly filled by Dudly Buckholz and a puck towards Buckholz was played. Buckholz took the puck and attempted a drag shot right on hand after controlling it, but his attempt fell right to the crossbar.

Cosneolta would attempt a drag shot too after the Minnows' failed offensive attempt in the 8th minute of the period. Kadzikelic took a deflection of Clemente Luciano's shot and brought the puck up towards the Maplish half and skillfully wiped up a drag shot after beating the back tracking Ángel Gabriel but saw his drag shot attempt blocked by Tiburcio Fran who stood in Kadzikelic right in time, much to the frustrations of Kadzikelic and Cosneolta's manager Calvin Aikriminiek. That would not be the only neat offensive breakaway attempt by Cosneolta though. Shortly after their 8th minute breakaway attempt, they attempted another in the 13th minute of play.

Taking on the Cosneolta's defence in the 13th minute was Clemente Luciano who knocked the puck past Ignush Candieva quickly and found himself face to face with the on running Artur Almeinar, but the skipper of the Minnows knocked a smooth and natural nutmeg on ice against Almeinar and was one on one with Gabradik, but Gabradik was the victor of the encounter as he laid low but managed to block the top right shot placed by Luciano much to the latter's frustration. Gabradik didn't take long to turn it into a quick offensive play and got the puck right over to Martin Danshevieva quickly who skated quickly pass the rink as the Minnows scrambled to assemble their defensive positions. Luciano was first to back track Danshevieva quickly and attempt to corner him to the boards. Luciano failed to win the puck back and Danshevieva was able to relay the puck over to Candieva who attempted a quick wrist shot on goal. Rasmus was got onto the shot quickly and kept the puck close to his body.

The Minnows were not the ones to turn away from a challenge as they attempted another tip play. Tiburio Fran took the puck back as he attempted to slow down the play. He looked up to Dudley Buckholz who had his back facing Fran. Without warning, Fran tipped the puck high up over to the side of Buckholz who seemed like he knew that the puck was coming as he arrived to the position of his puck without turning to face Fran. With one touch on the puck he stopped the puck and attempted a snappy pass over to Luciano who failed to convert the pass to a goal.

The attack went end to end but none of the sides were able to break the 2nd period deadlock and the scoreline remains, Cosneolta 2-0 Mapletish.

The third period was a nightmare start for the Minnows as they failed to capitalise on their momentum built on the first two periods in the third period to chase Cosneolta back down. Cosneolta won the faceoff right off the bat for the start of the period and they were first to break a shot on goal. First shot on target for the period and another goal for Cosneolta. Ignush Candieva won the faceoff for Cosneolta and relayed the ball over to Danshevieva who relayed it back to Almeinar. Almeniar controlled the ball slowly up the rink and started looking for options while Dudley Buckholz went on up to pressure the former. Almeniar then relayed the ball over to Candieva who calmly relayed it around with his attacking teammates, Danshevieva and Kandikova before Danshevieva got the end of the stick and plant the puck into the end of Rasmus' goal after the attacking move. Cosneolta 3-0 Mapletish.

That would not be the only goal of the period. In fact that was the 1st of the 4 goals for Cosneolta for the third period. The Minnows continued to slipped in their defence after Tiburcio Fran was subbed out for Kareem Solomon and Florentino Jordán for Royce Kaczmarski. The newly subbed in Golden Phoenix defensive pair was unable to hold onto the attacking prowess of the number 13 in the multiverse. In the 8th minute of the period, the leaders had another goal from the end of their attacking player. From a free hit position, Candieva relayed a fast tap towards Kandikova who was just beside him and the pair did a one two before Kandikova relayed the puck over to the oncoming Almeinar who slotted it in the middle right side of the goal. Cosneolta 4-0 Mapletish.

The Minnows continued biting on, trying to avoid a blowout victory from the Cosneolta side who looked to be hooked on scoring. It was in the 12th minute when they added a fifth goal to the scoreline. A scramble in the Minnows defence as Solomon mistimed his clearance out of the Maplish goal and it fell towards the skates of Ryan Estedinac who slotted in the fifth for Cosneolta. Cosneolta 5-0 Mapletish.

The Fireykop continued to chant and sing stubbornly, holding onto the hope that the Minnows would at least add another goal to the scoreline to prevent a blowout.

Of course, it was to the Fireykop's credit though as the new attacking pairing of Régulo Josepe, Nazario Julio and Gil Toño tried all that they could to spice up the attack in their ways. The three opted to cluster up and relayed passes to each other before Julio got the end of the attacking play and attempted a wrist shot after the three beat the defensive pairings of Tamba Okishkala and Orvil Kolovan from Cosneolta. Gabradik was right on his knees as he parried the shot out of danger and the play was subsequently picked up Kolovan who attempted an attacking run out to the Maplish defence. With the clock ticking into the 18th minute of the 3rd period, it was intense as Cosneolta's fans started to count down from the 90th second onwards. Kolovan got the puck over to Okishkala who relayed a neat pass towards Ryan Estedinac and the attacker would unleashed a simple drag shot to beat Rasmus. Cosneolta 6-0 Mapletish.

The Minnows attempted a last scramble towards the goal on the 19th minute as they tried to flood Cosneolta's defence to claw back a goal. Julio was the centre piece of this attack. Capitalising on the power play at this point, Rasmus came out of goal to allow Bonifacio Manu to come on. The 3 defence men line went up to overwhelm Cosneolta's defence and gave Julio the options as he made his way up the rink into Cosneolta's half. Cosneolta sat back cautiously defending tightly for the last minute. Régulo Josepe forcefully skated past for an incoming run onto the defence as he knocked Orvil Kolovan over his skates and Julio relayed a neat 1-2 pass towards Solomon who put the puck in Julio's path on the other end of the attacking move only to see Gabradik's last ditch save.

The final buzzer sounded and Cosneolta came out of the match with a high scoring scoreline, Cosneolta 6-0 Mapletish. The players skated towards each other and congratulated each other for the exciting encounter. The Fireykop rose and applauded both sides for their impressive showing as the Minnows lined up and bowed to thank the visiting Fireykop fans.

In the post match press conference, Epifanio Kike was quoted as saying, "It was a decent showing by the Minnows. Luck was simply not by their side as they were denied many shots on target and were on hand in an entertaining show of hockey play. Of course, Cosneolta showed why they were the winners with their impressive plays and I hoped this WCOH will give the inexperienced Maplish squad more exposure in the multiverse scene. Next match, I'm sure they will do better and show the Fireykop why the Minnows were podium winners for 3 WCOHs in a row."

CASE #: 2371-55

1224E Part E: Subsequent Assessment Summary Attachment
Location: Undisclosed NESA facility, Geneve, Geneva, NE

Evaluating Clinician:
Dr. Celeste Baccardo, MD, PsyD,
NESA O-14 Co-Int. Specialist
Subject: Walther Liebsgott (Likely alias given)

Physicality and Appearance: Gaunt, and withdrawn. No observed blemishes or bruises.
Biological Vitals: NESA Primary MD says most vitals check out, although nutrition is an issue. Elevated BP and stress indicators.
Articles seized: See Part C

Assessment Summary Follows:

Subject <Liebsgott> has been at times defiant, compliant and introverted, but never combative. While forming an attachment to Dr. Rehrmann, he also suffered additional trauma with the proposed treatment plan. Administrators and Department heads stepped in when his erratic behavior and sharp drop in self maintenance became an issue. Dr. Rehrmann’s treatment plan was, while somewhat expected in line with research and fieldwork, detrimental in positive and trustworthy results in subject. Treatment of subject as less than human has taken its toll.

Walther believes he has suffered enough and is unbending in his denial of engaging in espionage against our country. Our first session together was cathartic as he realized that the old rules did not apply towards ongoing treatment. Reassurances were given that conditions would improve and he was placated. However, he has been made aware that rather than a lack of pressure, he will feel a different kind of pressure, as our determination in getting to the truth will not flag.

I have great respect for my mentor, Dr. Rehrmann, but his methods in this case have not worked towards achieving our goals and in fact, may have done great harm towards <Liebsgott> for no discernible gain. I have been tasked with both getting desired results and trying to undo any mental harm done by the previous plan.
Some time to undo the aforementioned damage done will need to be applied before forward progress can be made.

Undisclosed NESA Prison Facility
Geneve, Geneva, Neu Engollon

His ‘studio apartment’ had a small set of shelves with books on it. He had read every one of them several times now, even the ones in Frandit, which, despite his background, he was barely literate in.

He ran his hand over the spines of the books, letting his eyes unfocus as he took in the colors and texture of the cover bindings. For weeks, this was his entertainment. His whispering companions telling him stories of lands and times that were...anywhere but here.

The door latch clattered and his eyes automatically focused again towards the heavy metal portal. There was nowhere to go, but his training still dictated that he prepare himself for the opportunity to escape, should it present itself. One slip of the security was all the only opening he needed, but again, where would he go?

He wasn't even sure where exactly he was. It wouldn't be surprising if they were deep in the Alps or one of the other mountain ranges and thick forests that served as Neu Engollon's natural borders. A facility of this size though would possibly be close to a more populated area. Schwartzgarten? Ludenthal? Torino? Certainly not Burgunden. He could get lost very easily into a metro area of 14 million.
Geneva then? There was a good chance he was in the capital. There had been clues.

"Clues to what?"

The guard was very close to him now, before he realized it. There was a mental blank on the time gap it took the guard to get from the door to standing in front of him. Not to mention his thoughts vocalizing against his will. How had that started? How could he stop it?

"Just playing games."

"That game sucked. So did the movie. Put yer fuckin' hands out."

"Do we really have to..."

"I SAID PUT YOUR FUCKING HANDS OUT, SHEEP FUCKING CUNT WHISTLE SPY!!"

After the hundredth time, it wasn't shocking anymore. Walther did as he was told, belatedly. The hatred he was subjected to on a daily basis by the regular staff of the prison was completely out of proportion to what the Bundesrepublik had actually done in damages to the Confederacy. Just in sheer numbers, more Neu Engollian property had been destroyed and more soldiers/peacekeepers had been killed or wounded by the Qasifyans and Yellowsians in a short few years than the damage done by Austrakia in decades of border skirmishes. The Bundesrepublik was clearly still and always would be the top bogeyman when it came to Confederacy government propaganda.

He was led through a series of corridors, all bland, beige and sterile. Doors along the way were numbered, but with no other indication as to their content. Occasionally they passed another guard or staffer who merely grunted or nodded. He never saw another prisoner during his 'parades' through the halls. Of course, that was intentional.

Finally, they were at the room. Number 4710. He had no idea if they were on the 4th floor or that number was completely arbitrary, but it was ingrained in his mind. It instilled mixed feelings of both apprehension and comfort. It was a chamber of both fear and safety.
Fear of compromising his country by one word weaseled out of him at a vulnerable moment. Also, of the next potential piece of bad news fed to him in that matter of fact, clinical manner.. Safety in that he didn't face the onslaught of hate in here that was omnipresent in the rest of the prison. Dr. Kasper, true to his profession, had never yelled at or berated him. The most agitation he had shown was frustration at Walther for sticking to his story and never breaking. But now...

Who knew how things would go with this new doctor, Celeste? Maybe she was the enforcer brought in for results that Kasper had never been able to obtain. The guard opened the door and shoved him in.

It was a crushing loss to Krenorus. The Hockey Team for Savorjana had beat them five to nil. It started off furiously, with Pavel Rasnikov - of the Savorjana Hockey Team - scored the first point as Jacques Ouilsonne failed to block the puck that Rasnikov sent into the goal. This was a completely de-moralising goal for Krenorus, they had not been ready for when the game started. They had easily failed to block Rasnikov. Even their best players were not prepared. Rasnikov hit the puck which sped with furious talent at the goal. The goaltender - Ouilsonne - had not been ready and had almost blocked the puck with his left foot. It was a brilliant play by the Savorjana team. The rest of the team looked on in disappointment as none of them were able to stop the Savojar. Jacob Smith-Winstons was soon able to get control of the puck and the Krenorussian team made a push for an equalizer. Unfortunately, Niklas Hoyman blocked the puck, thereby deflecting it into one of the Savoja Defenders, who passed it to Rasnikov. This time, he would have quite a hard time getting the puck into the goal, but he did. Ouilsonne almost deflected it but failed. The puck went into the goal and the Savoja Crowd went wild, cheering for their team which was giving a beatdown to Krenorus. But the Krenorussian team would not give up so easily. In the twelfth minute, the Krenorussian team tried to score again. However, while Jackson Tiggers passed the puck to Jacob Smith-Winstons, Ville Stefansson intercepted it. He surprised the Krenorussians and moved as fast as lightning to the Krenorussian goalpost. He used his hockey stick and hit the puck. It was luckily blocked by Ouilsonne in the nick of time. It gave no relief to the Krenorussian team though, for they had no points while the Savojana team had two.

Another similar incident happened just a few minutes later, with Mikko Simonen shooting a puck extremely fast. Fritj Steiner tried to block the puck but it went straight between his legs. Luckily, Ouilsonne was able to stop it using his stick, deflecting it to Alessandro 'Al' Mikaelo, who passed it to Erik von Neumann, who passed it to Jackson Tiggers. The Krenorussian crowd started to sing in excitement as they thought that Tiggers would be the first Krenorussian to score a goal in the W.C.O.H. Tiggers went with all his might before passing the puck to Smith-Winstons, who passed it to von Neumann. The Savojana players prepared to stop von Neumann, but as the puck hit his stick, it deflected to Tiggers who shot it at the goal. The Savojana goalkeeper barely deflected it to the right, letting the Savojana players take control of the puck. It was a huge upset. Neither team could score a goal from then on. The Krenorussians were starting to live up to their nickname, 'The Beasts' as they furiously defended and furiously attacked. Their defending was better than usual, but their attacking was worse than usual.

Soon, the first period ended and with the second period starting, the Krenorussians put on a quick attack, but Stefansson intercepted the puck and tried to goal. Ouilsonne tried to block it. The puck hit his right leg, but it still went into the goal. The Savojana crowd went wild as it was now three to nil. The Krenorussian crowd was starting to weep. Some of them even started to get angry. Five minutes after the second period started, the Savojana team got control of the puck. Al Mikaelo and Steiner were both unable to stop the Savojana team, who passed the puck from one to another. Soon, Mikko Simonen went for the shot and Ouilsonne tried to stop it. Unfortunately for the Krenorussian team, he accidentally lifted his stick too high, letting the puck go underneath it. When the puck went into the goal, Ouilsonne fell on his knees and shouted: "Why are we of the abandonné?" he said distressed and with a French accent. Abandonné was the Frenchman's word for forsaken, deserted and that sort. It was used by Krenorussian-Frenchmen only when referring to abandonment from God.

It was now four to nil. At the tenth minute after the second period, after another five minutes of furious back-and-forth, Rasnikov scored again as he found an opening in the centre and pretended to hit the puff to the left side of the goal, causing Ouilsonne to lunge to the left, he then had his stick go over the puff and hit it to the right, scoring. The crowd of the team from Savorjana went completely bonkers, as Shawn Norman thought as he switched places with von Neumann. Tiggers also switched with Jason Keeshawn. Quickly, Norman got the puck and passed it to Keeshawn. They both kept passing the puck to one another and to Jacob Smith-Winstons, who was to change soon with Thomas Cox-Conley. Norman passed the puck to Keeshawn who shot it at the goal. The goalkeeper blocked it with his hand and then shot the puck using his stick. Soon, the Savojana team had it and they were able to score one more goal, making the score five to nothing. For the next shifts and periods, the Krenorussians would try gruesomely to score, but they would not be able to do it. They barely stopped the Savorjana players from scoring more points.

When the match was over, a press conference was held, Coach James Fogg-Czines apologised on the behalf of the whole team, who he said would work to make sure that Krenorus would win the next match.

Head Coach: Image Jacques Magnekoli • Trigramme: MRC • Nickname: The Kingfishers

Following the nation's historic 4th place finish in the Free Republics at the tournament's previous edition, the Kingfishers return to the World Cup of Hockey to claim their first podium position. Their incredible run spanning matches in the double digits took them all the way to the semi-, where they ran into eventual champions Elejamie and ultimately giving in to Vilita & Turori for the third place playoff. Now, their team is refreshed after entering a long winter and spring period where hockey certainly want on the mind of much of the populace. The MPL has been kicking into gear with Orga HC claiming a surprise title, with Zoloroni City Icers also flying the flag for Mercedini in the Hockey Champion's League, becoming the first team to make it to a quarter final. It's a period of change when it comes to hockey with the sport coming of age in recent seasons. Sporting allies and cultural partners Cosneolta have also been flying the flag in their own, which could make for a very interesting tournament if both teams bring their A-game to the tournament. With plenty of debutantes taking part in the 40th edition, there is plenty of room for upsets and for an unranked or low-ranked team to make a name for themselves. It's looking up to be an exciting start of the tournament for many of those involved

Mercedinian hockey is much more irregular than its regulation counterparts from other nations, with players often staying on the ice for full periods, rarely changing only for injuries and drastic tactical changes. Changes are typically made during the inter-period intervals, where management and coaches then assess tactics and change the line-ups from there. This means Mercedinian hockey players are extremely fit and have tremendous stamina to last full period. However, tactical adaptability does become a challenge, with players excelling in some areas while lacking in others, with those qualities dependant on their preferred playstyles in the game.

GT Carl Arkenton 26 Image AHC Langtree
GT Adam Orlavic 20 Image Kaldex Tridents

In a switch of the old guard for this tournament, Severnaya Oblast's Luke Carshavington gets the nod as first choice goaltender for the tournament, but it's likely that the second and third choice for Mercedini will almost certainly get a run out during middle period or against potential dead rubbers if they work their way to a position where they can afford to take their foot off the gas for a couple of matches. Carl Arkenton and Adam Orlavic will be the ones in accompaniment once again with the three goaltenders each having different positives and negatives which can be used to the teams advantage depending on the opponent. Defensive technique will need to be assessed after the team conceded ten in their third place playoff again V&T, but skill and talent might be enough to get the Kingfishers through to the knockout rounds once again

The defensive roster as stayed marginally the same since the previous edition with every player called back up from the previous World Cup of Hockey in the Free Republics. The Pollock brothers, still playing their hockey in Lokomotiv Nezaemy, remain the first choice for the defensive line thanks to their speed with the puck combining well the communication that the brothers have nurtured throughout their professional careers as hockey players. They are two of three players currently playing their hockey outside of Mercedini, with the third and final being Losset Mesoshi who made the trip over to Cosneolta to play for title challengers KRT North Dynum, a league which rarely receives international coverage. The rest play for teams in the Mercedinian Super League and hold their own when it comes to positions in the national team. Mercedini have been working hard on their defending, so it will all come to head when Mercedini play their opening group games.

When it comes to attacking prowess, Mercedini are one of the world leaders in the sport of football, but hockey is largely an unknown sport in many reaches of the multiverse. Still, Mercedini have got a series of marquee names on their rosters with a series of leagues represented in all different parts of the multiverse. MSL winner Arthur, NZEL team of the year member Morton and Kebecois league winner and player of the season Ismaat are named as the preferred trio to lead the Kingfishers into battle against their five other opponents in the group. There's plenty of support in the second and third lines of the attacking roster with the two Mercedinian leagues represented well by the number of players involved in international hockey, with the potential of adding the Odin Cup to their list of accolades if they accept the invite offered to them by the Razenthuria Hockey Association. There's plenty to be excited about if you are a fan of the Mercedinian National Team. They play the Free Republics in their opening match of the tournament.

The TDS Quick and Easy Guide to the 36th World Cup of Hockey

Well, that was a complete surprise, wasn't it? At first, we said that we didn't want to do the 35th World Cup of Hockey. But then we entered it anyway. We entered the same old people: Cerin Meloten, Anatoly Kasputin, James Han, Lupe, et al. The only major change was that Adrian Lambert being a scratch goalie since Peter Berg became our new starter and legendary goaltender Antonio "Toni" Cervantes' nephew Pedro Cervantes became our new backup. A good chunk of our core was aging. George Lincoln, Anatoly Kasputin, Paul Morton and Aaron Andrews, as well as recurring scratch Alejandro Rubio Orosco, are currently in their early-to-mid 30s and risk dropping off in skill. Lucas Madgwick, son of the legendary Michael Madgwick (who returned to coach the team), was out and had to be replaced by Francisco Solano, an enforcer. And considering our poor performances in Savojarna and Anthor, it seemed like we'd be in for some more pain and the third golden age of Elejamian international ice hockey would come to a disappointing end.

But we managed to win it. Not just that but we very nearly came close to our performance in the 31st World Cup of Hockey, the tournament where we won every single game (although the debate of whether or not it should count as a perfect run still rages to this day). The only thing that stopped our perfect run in the last one was the 3-2 overtime loss to Abanhfleft on the first day. I don't hold a grudge and I think they were the better team on that day. Not to mention that there were games where we underperformed, such as the 1-0 win in our first game against Melbergia and 5-3 win in our first game against Huri de Wintre. But fortunately, the second time around, we absolutely went on a rampage, as evidenced by the 8-3 win in our rematch against Abanhfleft on home ice and 8-2 win against the Vakolicci Haven and Celeria. Eventually, we managed to finish top of the table, with the OT loss being the only thing preventing us from a perfect run. Not as impressive as us sweeping our groups in Quebec, Norrehavn and Hannasea but still worthy of praise.

As for the knock-out stage? Where, funnily enough, the Free Republics failed to get to even though they were hosting. We were up against Anthor, a team that should officially be considered one of our rivals considering the amount of games we've played against one another in such a short time; ever since their debut in the 30th edition, the only times when we haven't played them were their debut tournament and the 34th World Cup of Hockey. Not to mention that overall they've won only one game in the six times we've faced them; a 3-1 win in our second group game against them (the first go around was a 2-1 win to us) that they truly deserved to get. But I digress. The Ducks and the Icy Elephants met again in the Round of 16 in Baseton and it seemed like Anthor had finally put their demons past them and seemed confident enough to take the win. Only they'd go on to lose 6-2 to us. With four unanswered goals coming in the third period, including an empty netter by Stacy Saunders. Ouch. Oh well, there's always next time.

Afterwards came another old rival, Valanora. It seemed like we'd be in big, big trouble considering all the times we've played them. Like the 30th and 32nd World Cup of Hockey finals, where they beat us 2-1 and 3-1 respectively. Not just that but they swept us in the 28th World Cup of Hockey semi-final, which they went on to win on home ice, whereas we got the bronze medal. Granted they didn't seem as strong as they did a few tournaments ago but there was a feeling that we'd be in for a tight match. Except that never happened. Instead, we beat them 9-1. Yes, 9-1. And their only goal came towards the end, after their goalie was taken off and an extra attacker came on. I don't think anyone expected it and, in all honesty, I'm not sure if it'll happen again. But you have to admit that that was the point where our faith in the national team was restored.

And then there was the semi-final against Vilita and Turori, the reigning champions at the time. There's not much of a history with these guys here so I'm going to keep it brief. We simply won 3-2. In overtime. Not much to say there, especially since we swept them back in the 33rd editon (4-0, then 2-1), but considering how much they've improved over the years (one AOHC as a unified team and one WCoH trophy, as well as a bronze medal thanks to an astounding 10-4 win over Mercedini) I can definitely say they'll be a force to be reckoned with soon. Oh and we played Abanhfleft for the third and final time that tournament, beating them 5-3, but there's not much to mention here that I haven't mentioned already. Commiserations to them, here's hoping they can repeat their success here.

Now that I'm done reminiscing, let's return to the topic, which is this World Cup of Hockey. Yes, we're back in Anthor again for the 36th edition. And there have been a few changes from the last one. For a start, all the matches seem to be taking part in the host nation, as opposed to each home game taking place in the home nation's country, something we also saw in the 35th edition. The knockout stage games seem to be single elimination, as opposed to the best-of series that we got back in the 33rd. And, of course, we're not up against the hosts in the group stage, although whether or not we'll face them on a later date is a mystery. There are a few leftover bits, though, such as the double round robin and, presumably, the scores being listed as away@home (although fortunately for us Elejamians they'll be listed as home vs away on ETV and any other sites). I don't really have much of an idea in which order we'll be facing our opponents, only who we'll be playing first (and sixth) so I'm going to listen by where they are in the rankings; if they share the same ranking, I'll be going by reverse alphabetical order just to mix things up.

And the first team on my list is the Alpine Union. In the last edition, they very narrowly failed to qualify for the next round; had they won their last game against Valanora instead of losing in overtime, then they would've overtaken Kita-Hinode (who won their last game against Central Shaneville 1-0) and finished top of the group on PD. A bit of a step up from their performance in Savojarna, where they finished fifth with two wins, two RT losses and an SO loss, but a bit of a step down from the last time they were in Anthor (which doubles as their first tournament as a united nation), where they finished second in their group (behind Novaya Zemlya) but lost their series against then-reigning champs Valanora 2-1. Not bad.

Next up is Tobiasia. In the last tournament, they also finished third in their group and, much like the Alpine Union, they were pipped to the post. The only real difference was that they lost 1-0 to Siovanija and Teusland in regulation time; had they won, they would've finished top of the group and S&T would've been knocked out. They finished third again in Savojarna, with three wins (one coming from a shootout) and two losses totalling nine points. They also finished third in their group over in Anthor and Valanora, although to be fair considering they finished fourth over in Hannasea, I'd say a streak of thirds is a bit of an improvement. Not much of an improvement but still one nonetheless.

And the final team on my ranked list is Ko-oren. In the last edition, they were in the same group as the aforementioned Alpine Union. However, they didn't do so great, as they finished fourth in their group with three wins and seven losses. Which might come as a shock considering that they were quite a good team for some time but, sadly, they had been absent since the 30th edition and as a result showed a bit of the jitters. They might show some improvement this time around but it's just a question of when, not if.

And our first trip into the unknowns are Neo-Romanum. They seem to be new to the tournament. The downside is that I can't find much information about them, their league, the popularity of the sport. Maybe I'll find out once I've written this article. Either way, they're probably worth keeping an eye on, if only they pull off any surprises. They probably won't but it's still worth keeping an eye on them.

And, finally, we have Kilaguni. Remember when I said I know who we'd be playing first and sixth? It's against these guys. The bad news is that that's the only thing I know about them at this moment. Again, much like with the last team on this list, I can't find any real information on their squad, their league, how big the sport is over there. Slightly annoying but not too much of a problem, really. Again, might be worth keeping an eye on them even if they don't achieve much success.

So where do I think we'll finish? Top two, in all honesty. While a first place prize is pretty much on the cards, I'm not going to rule out the likelihood of the Alpine Union beating us for the top spot. As for the other teams? Tobiasia will probably keep the streak going and finish in third place yet again, although it'll be a question of whethey they very nearly get through only to fall at the last hurdle or if they get eliminated before the end of the group stage; failing that Ko-oren could potentially pull of an upset and finish third instead but I still peg them to finish in fourth. And, of course, the two unknowns in dead last. However, after flipping a 50ᶈ coin, I pick Neo-Romanum to finish ahead of Kilaguni.

Anything else to mention? Not particularly. I would go through the groups, as I always do, but not only does it come across as filler but it's not that hard to look up. George Lincoln says that he's retiring at the end of the next season but since he's going to keep playing in the World Cup of Hockey until then, I won't be commenting on it until he does. Tim Hurst resumed his role as assistant coach, especially since Frank Marston's unavailable due to illness, but word on the street is that Tim will take over as head coach again for the next edition. And there'll be no picture today but, then again, not all articles need a picture. Right, now that I've said everything I needed to say, I'm going to sit back, relax and watch some quality ice hockey. Hopefully you'll do the same.

The Alpine Union beat Neo-Romanum in WCoH opener

Inverness City, Anthor - (NAP) The World Cup of Hockey group draw has been made and the Alpines were drawn in group 2 with 3 times champions and defending champions Elejamie, who are ranked 1st. We can't see the Bisons winning over the icy Elephants, it's going to be a hard task. Another opponent is Tobiasia, ranked 18th (while we're raked 17th). The Alpine Union and Tobiasia are toe to toe and only one of us will get the 2nd ticket to the round of 16. Then, ranked 41st is Ko-oren, a team which we believe they're better than what their rank is showing and can muddy the waters. The two other teams in the group are Neo-Romanum and Kilaguni, both unranked.

Is this the year the Alpine union will go further than the 1st round? Propably not, like the previous years, we're not even sure to qualify for the playoffs. Prusy Krolewskie's 1st participation at a WCoH was at the 27th edition hosted by Gregoryisgodistan and Ko-oren. The Bisons finished 4th in group H with a 3-1-1 record. Prusky Krolewskie missed the next 3 editions and made a come back at the WCoH 31 hosted by Hannasea. The Bisons finished 3rd in Mongers group with a 1-0-3 record and missed the playoffs again.

A lot of things happened during the WCoH 32, Prusy Krolewskie was in turmoil and Prince Zygmunt VII was in Valanora to attend both the WCoH and Di Bradini Cup and to avoid the turmoil. Prince Zygmunt VII was overthrown by a socialist coalition led by Włodzimierz Krzynówek. This event, known in Alpine history as the Orange Revolution, led us to the creation of the Union of Socialist Alpine Republics. Prince Zygmunt VII never came back in Prusy Krolewskie and he didn't stay in Valanora either, he's now retreating in his mansion in the Southern Virgin islands, also part of the Alpine Union. This edition was also marked by Jaroslaw Jastrzebski's career ending injury during a game against Gregoryisgodistan. Prusy Krolewskie finished 4th in group G with a 1-2-1 record.

The Alpine Union participated at the WCoH 33 in Anthor, inheriting Prusy Krolewskie's rank, and finishing 2nd in Stacks Group with a 4-4-2 record, making the playoffs for the first and only time. The Bisons lost 1-0 against Valanora in the round of 16. Then at the WCoH 34 in Savojarna, the Alpine Union finished 5th in group C with a 2-1-2 record, missing again the playoffs. The WCoH was held in the evil capitalist nation of the Free republics. The Bisons finished 3rd in group 4 with a 6-1-3 record.

The Alpine Union/Prusy Krolewskie has an all time record of 17-9-13 but only made the playoffs once. This advocates for my scepticism for the Bisons to make the playoffs again, they won't finish higher than 3rd.

Game 1 has already been played and the Alpine Union beat Neo-Romanum 5-1 but don't be too ecstasic, they're an unranked team and we don't make the playoffs despite a winning record. The Reprezentacja Alpejski scored 3 goals in the 1st period to take a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Emilia Zyskowska, Slawomir Zawistowski and Niko Virtanen scored the three goals. Both teams scored once in the 2nd period and Alpine's goal was by Peter Sundin. Then, Melania Zyskowska scored in the 3rd period to put the score at 5-1.

The St Saratogan “Saints” National Ice Hockey Team starts off the World Cup of Hockey 36 international tournament with a draw against the 34th Ranked Northwest Kalactin.

Cost: K$ 1.50

Anthor -- The St Saratogan “Saints” are looking to finally turnover a new leaf with ending of the Coach Underhill era and the promotion of Assistant Head Coach Shawn Bosley to the leadership position. Coach Bosley was quick to make some changes, mainly to altering the team defense.

The Saints took on the Northwest Kalactin in what was already expected to be a fairly even matchup between the teams. The Saints continue to offer a speedy offense complimented by physical, board playing defense that is supposed to keep the opponent off-pace and off-balance. The team is led by Captain William Green with co-captains Matthew Skov and Owen Ekström. The goaltender for the tournament is Free Agent Goalie David Crawford who took the place of SNHL MVP Storm Ekström. The team also added SNHL 1st round pick by the Rogerbei Fighting Hawks Goalie Jan-Erik Liukko to their goalie lineup, it’s unknown if Liukko or Ekström will see any playing time or if one does, who it will be.

Northwest Kalactin is led by Head Coach Jerry Patterson, who currently has a 1-4 record in the WCoH. NW Kalactin is a fairly balance team with an emphasis in its defensive play. The Kalactinian team will be participating in its 2nd World Cup of Hockey. Some of the players on the team are Goalie Clint Bowers; Defensemen Aaron Johnson, Amos Thibault, and Todd Washington; Forward Bobby Bryant, Joseph Lee and Jimmy Roberts. The rivalry between these two teams goes back to a different sport which is the World Baseball Classic where Northwest Kalactin often plays the Saints in a highly heated matchups as well. The St Saratoga Saints National Baseball Team hold a winning record of 6 - 2 against the NW Kalactinian baseball team.

The Saints opened the matchup between the two rivals with a powerplay goal three minutes into the opening period, which was caused by a high sticking minor against Forward Amos Thibault, scored by Owen Ekström, giving Matthew Skov and Nathaniel Thorson the assist. NWK put up some strong, physical defense on the blue line causing the Saints adapt their strategy of dumping the puck. The Saints would get called for elbowing and board minors in the period but successfully kills off both penalties. The Saints would take the 1-0 lead into the end of the 1st period.

NWK came out strong in the second period, Dayton Ray and Adam King both would get to shots passed Saints Goalie David Crawford to take the lead 1-2 but the Saints would even it up again when Forward William Green sniped a goal that was setup by Lewis Faulkner and Noak Zwack. With the even score, the Saints failed to cash in on many opportunities including a breakaway by Micheal Warren that was denied by a spectacular save NWK goaltender Bowers. The second period would end with a fight between NWK Forward Richard Scott and Saint Forward Mikkel Nygaard.

The third period kicked off with the intensity of both teams showing as both teams landing some huge hits on each other. The most notable hit being where Karl Nyman being hit causing him to fall into Saints goaltender Crawford who struggled to get up. After being tended by the medical trainer Crawford was up and remained in the net. NWK would strike first in the final period with a breakaway goal Aaron Johnson after Saint Tristan Dahl got tripped up allowed the breakaway to take place. The Saints would continue to fall behind with a second goal in a row delivered by Adam King who would earn his second of the night. The Saints would take their time out with eight minutes left in the third being down 2-4. After the timeout the Saints would get their spark back with a goal by Noak Zwack. With 4 min remaining the Saints would even the game up with a powerplay goal by Nathaniel Thorson with Owen Ekström in assist.

The game would reach its climax in the final 20 seconds of the game with the Saint Defensemen Marc Ekström achieving the breakaway, Marc would skate up to NWK Bowers then cuts right and sink the backhand goal. What should have been Game Winning Goal (GWG) was reviewed and eventually called off after a NWK challenge for offsides which was upheld.

The next matchup for the Saints is against Cosneolta who are led by Manager Calvin Aikriminiek. Cosneolta, a relatively small nations of 400,000 people, has a rich hockey culture. As the 13th ranked team, this will be the first major test for the Post-Underhill Saints against an higher ranked opponent. The Saints are looking to create a undefeated streak to help lock in the Saints into a first-ever knockoff stage entrance and knocking off a higher ranked Cosneolta would serves as a strong statement for the rest of the group that the newly-revamped Saints are the team to watch in Group 7. Cosneolta made it through the round robin stage in the last World Cup of Hockey with the help of their stonewall defense. So far in WCoH 36, Cosneolta's record is 1-0 with a 6-0 shutout of unranked Mapletish who style a similar offense to the Saints.

Saints Stars of the Night:
  • Owen Ekström - Goal, 2 Assists
  • Noak Zwack - Goal, Assist
  • William Green - Goal
Reporter: “What are some of your take away from this draw against Northwest Kalactin?”

Coach Bosley: “We are looking good so far, this was our first test with a new system of play so of course we got some things we can change and improve on, but the team seems to be adjusting to the changes really well which bodes well for us in the long run.”

Reporter: “One of the big stories coming from your team was the decision to move Saratogan National Hockey League MVP Goalie Storm Ekström to the bench and replace him with Free Agent Goalie David Crawford who allowed 4 goals in tonight. What was the decision behind that and has it affected the teams moral?”

Coach Bosley: “I want to start off by saying David [Crawford] played excellent out there tonight. He came up with some excellent saves, stopping 32 shots on the net. It’s only the first game of this stage, everyone is still loosening up, keep in mind that NWK goalie Clint Bowers also had a great performance allowing in 4 goals as well. In regard to Storm, both players know the decision to bench was not a permanent one. I felt he could use some time under a veteran like Crawford during these international stages to see if he can work out some of the issues he’s struggled with in the last World Cup of Hockey.”

Reporter: “Your first time came up big tonight, tallying 3 out of the 4 goals scored tonight. Do you see this line success continuing?”

Coach Bosley: “These guys are some of the best that St Saratoga has to offer, they have great chemistry together and are very supportive teammates. Wingers William Green & Nathaniel Thorson just have that aggressive enough play that it opens the door for Center Noak Zwack to use his speed to get that break away. I am confident this line will continue to perform.”

Reporter: “Thought on the upcoming game against 13th ranked Cosneolta? Any changes to be made?”
Coach Bosley: “Cosneolta is going to be an exciting matchup. Both teams are very good and aggressive teams, I expect a lot of physical play and both team’s defenses to be tested. As for changes, I’ll continue to tweak out defense until we get something that works, we still relied on our goaltender too much to keep the puck out of the net.
Thank you all for the questions”

World Cup of Hockey: A Flying Start
FINAL
WCOH | MD1

MERCEDINI 6
FREE REPUBLICS 3
(2-1) (1-0) (3-2)
Shebchetsik, Mercedini
The Kingfishers opened their account at the World Cup of Hockey in style with a win in front of their home crowd in Shebchetsik, as they over game a fightback from the Free Republics to beat the World #30 and third group seed by six goals three to sit in a provisional second place in the group on goal difference. It was a statement of intent from the national team who enter the World Cup of Hockey as a first seed for the first time, following their fourth place finish in the Free Republics. Before the match the coaching staff said that they wanted to make a statement with their opening match in Shebchetsik, and they did exactly that with their six goal haul in front of a capacity crowd in the Ice Palace.

It was a chilly night in Shebchetsik, with locals jubilant over the MHF's decision to host all World Cup of Hockey group stage matches in the northern city which has been home to some of the greats when it comes to Mercedinian hockey. The locals turned out in their thousands to finally see the national hockey team in action, rather than travelling hundreds of miles to see them in Zoloroni, giving the arena it's signature hostile atmosphere that nearly all visiting teams experience when travelling to Shebchetsik for their sporting competitions. Indeed the match got underway with the roar of the crowd spurring on the players as the World Cup of Hockey officially got underway in Mercedini.

Action was fast and frantic as ice hockey generally is, with Mercedini and Free Republics going back and forth against each other, exchanging attacking moves and shots as the teams felt each other out in the opening exchanges of the game. The Kingfishers had the first big opening chance of the game when Max Morton found himself in space and had the time to release a quick slap shot towards the net in the first meaningful attack from either team. The Morton shot was parried away by the goalkeeper but Ayal Ismaat was there to scoop up the puck and take a second bite of the cherry. The puck bounced awkwardly against the puck as Ismaat swung his stick, resulting in a weak flick which flew over the net and around for an easy Republican clearance. Indeed, the visitors used that getaway to construct a deadly counter attack and a two-on-two towards the Mercedinian net. Peter Pollock lost his marker which allowed Maria Gonzalez to skate through and slot the puck low into the net for a surprising opener from the Free Republics. The Ice Palace was silenced momentarily with only several hundred Republicans making the trip to Mercedini for the opener, resulting in rather muted celebrations in the stands. This only spurred on the Mercedinians who wanted to put on a show for the fans, and they started heating up from the face off.

Five minutes were all that were left on the clock in the first period and Mercedini were piling on the pressure to try and find an equaliser in the first period, the fans were getting frustrated as the fact that the front line were only taking half chances at the goal, rather than biding their time and acting on a more dangerous opportunity. The chance finally came when Ismaat weaved in and out of the opposition players, keeping the puck stuck to his stick as he glided closer to the goal, he was ultimately double teamed and stripped of possession but the clearance deflected off the skate of Ismaat and into the path of the arriving Morton who made no mistake with a simple slap shot into the roof of the net to send the Ice Palace into ecstasy. That was the lift they needed to get the fans onside, with waves of blue and black circling the patch of white in the centre of the arena. The fans were still cheering when the game turned on it's head in the space of a minute with the Free Republics coming forward after winning the face-off. A tame shot was smothered well by Carshavington before he quickly released it to Zach Arthur who was skating down the wing as it was being released, there were shades of offside as both the player and the puck looked to have entered the final third at the same time, but the referee let play continue with Arthur cutting back inside and flicking the puck past the oncoming goaltender for a second Mercedinian goal in a minute. It was a great way to wake up a calming half for the home side, with Mercedini a goal to the good after the first period.

Mercedini made good on their comeback in the second period as they extended their lead to two clear goals with second line attacker Oliver Ansellini getting on the scoresheet. The young Mercedinian plays his hockey in Neu Engollon which could prove to be vital when they play each other in the group, but for now he settles with his first goal at the tournament, it was proving to be quite the goal fest to kickstart the campaign for both of these teams. At the end of the second interval, half-time entertainment was shown to the fans inside the stadium with flags waving high, it was turning out to be a good return to form for the national team who experienced a bit of a lull following their two losses which ultimately led them to fourth place in the tournament, but that allowed them to regroup and start again in the multiverse's biggest hockey tournament.

Following that break, the teams were back at it and it was more of the same when it came to goals and action. Free Republics added their own spice of drama to the mix as two quick goals at the beginning of the half bought them back level in what was turning out to be a tense and drawn out affair between the two teams, the Free Republics certainly looked like a team on the up with the potential to take a point and maybe more from Mercedini to get their group campaign up and running. That put a dampener on what was a good night for the fans in Shebchetsik, seeing their team capitulate on opening night certainly wasn't on the cards. Frankly, it was an altogether leaky performance from Mercedini, but they had the talent to get through the pickle they were in, they just had to use it. Max Morton came back onto the ice for the third quarter as an emergency replacement to try and bag some goals. Mercedini's fourth came from a face-off near the Republican goal when I. Pollock's quick pass found it's way to Morton who blasted ball past the goaltender and into the net. That was added on when Arthur broke free again and slid the puck over to a waiting Morton who tapped it into the open net for a fifth. Finally, the route was completed when Ismaat netted a goal of his own, with a vicious shot from the edge of the area couldn't be stopped by the goaltender, who could only tip the puck off the post and in for a sixth which was as quick as the fourth. Twenty minutes which ignited the campaign and give Mercedini their first victory at the tournament, sending them into second after Astrakia won their match 6-1. The final horn sounded around the arena and Mercedini had lift off in the World Cup of Hockey. They were made to work for it but they came through multiple scares in the end, it finished Mercedini 6, Free Republics 3.

LATE EDITION -- SPORTS

GOLDHORNS TAKE WORLD CUP OF HOCKEY OPENER

Siovanija and Teusland’s national hockey team kicked off their campaign at World Cup of Hockey 36 with a 4-2 victory over the United States of Devonta from Anthor.

“We want to get off to a good start here, we haven’t played all together in a real game in some time obviously, but we want to get out there, and we want to play our game,” commented team captain Gunter Pfenning. Coach Aaron Kuhn added to Pfenning’s comments, telling the media “Devonta are a good team, and they will be a challenge for us. It is so important that we are strong out of the gate, and we can build some momentum from that and carry it through this tournament.” The Goldhorns took to the ice in their gold jerseys, prepared to open up the tournament.

Anthems sung and players lined up for the draw, nothing was left but the drop of the puck. Gunter Pfenning won the opening face-off, and suddenly international hockey action had returned. The Goldhorns were speedy on and off the puck, spending lots of time in the Devontan zone and putting several shots on goal. Devonta struggled to break out of the zone, and the Goldhorns kept up the attack. Finally, the tired defenders were forced into taking a penalty. A Devontan defender was called for slashing on the leg of Rupert Ganzfield, and the Goldhorns’ power play got to work.

It didn’t take long for results to be found. Koloman Schwarzmann held the puck at the point, passing back and forth with his partner Bojidar Ivankov. Finally, Schwarzmann unleashed a shot from the point, but it was tipped wide by a stick in front. Alex Schynder recovered the puck in the corner, and he sent a pass in front for Razvigor Tsvetanov. Tsvetanov fired a shot which was initially stopped by the Devontan goalie, however he could not control the rebound. A Devontan defender was first to the puck and attempted to clear it, but the clearance was blocked by Ivankov. Ivankov decided to try and catch the goalie off guard by firing a shot in, and it was tipped by the stick of Gunter Pfenning on its way. The deflection sent the puck past the glove of the goalie, and gave the Goldhorns a 1-0 lead in the first game of the tournament.

The play of the Goldhorns continued to be great in that first period. They moved the puck well, with crisp passes allowing the puck to move quickly up the ice. There were several great chances for the team, and the Devontan goalie had to make more than a few great saves. Razvigor Tsvetanov was denied on a one-timer shot in front, and Wolfram Spiegel’s wrist shot was turned away into the corner. It was clear that the Goldhorns would need to convert these chances, however, because it seemed as if with each minute Devonta grew more and more into the game.

Just before the end of the first period, the Goldhorns would lengthen the advantage in the game. It was the top line again, Gunter Pfenning carrying the puck through the neutral zone. He passed it off for Razvigor Tsvetanov, and it was a moment of brilliance from the power forward. Tsvetanov pushed past the defender on the right side, coming around him while protecting the puck. He skillfully stickhandled on his way to the goal, before faking a shot. The goalie buying into his trick, he then rifled the puck into the top corner to make the score 2-0 to the Goldhorns.

Coming back out for the second period, it was easy to tell that Devonta were hoping to put their poor start behind them. Devonta now came forward quickly, and the Goldhorns were going to have to adapt their game a bit more. Timo Horn took a poorly-timed penalty just 4 minutes into the period, a tripping call in his own zone. The Goldhorns’ penalty kill unit put in a very good shift, however it was not enough. The Devontan defender took a slap shot from the point which was redirected wide by the stick of Gregor Herder in front. However, Herder’s deflection went straight to the Devontan winger, who was able to snap a quick shot on goal that beat the dive of Ivanov. Now, Devonta had cut the Goldhorns’ lead to 2-1, and looked to have a lot of momentum with them.

The Goldhorns were able to hold off and turn back the tide, however, thanks to some excellent defending. We must mention the name of Gero Radulov here, because he was absolutely instrumental in keeping the Goldhorns in the driver’s seat of this one. Excellent backchecking efforts from the centre, and great work at shutting down the opposing top line centre, kept the score at 2-1. Before the period was over, the Goldhorns would secure their advantage in the game and take it nearly beyond question. Radulov’s line managed to get in on some points themselves, with Mihael Gavrilov taking the puck below the opposition goal line. Gavrilov’s pass out front found Radulov, who quickly tipped it to Veselin Filipov. Filipov made no mistake as he lifted the puck above the outstretched pad of the Devontan goalie, and now the Goldhorns led 3-1.

Another special teams effort in the waning moments of the period extended the Goldhorns’ lead even further. After a Devontan winger was called for tripping, once again the power play unit came onto the ice. This time, it was the skills of Alex Schynder that were called forward to perform. Faking a shot, Gunter Pfenning instead sent a hard pass across to Schnyder, who made no mistake as he one-timed it past the goalie. 4-1 now to the Goldhorns, and the ice appeared to be tilted one way as the second period came to a close.

Credit must go to the Devontan defenders and goalie, however, who picked themselves back up and shut down the Goldhorns’ offence in the third period. In attack, Devonta had some degree of threat to them, however each time Siovanija and Teusland’s defence were able to match them. Ruslan Ivanov made a big save halfway through the third period to deny Devonta’s captain a goal, and one had to wonder if the Devontan efforts may find fruit yet. A penalty from Mihael Gavrilov gave Devonta another chance to grab a goal, but they could not find the target. Time ticked onwards in the third period, and the Goldhorns moved closer to victory.

Siovanija and Teusland let their collective guards down late, however, and allowed Devonta a late consolation goal. The Goldhorns were caught on a bad line change, and the ensuing 2-on-1 saw the Devontan forwards read the play perfectly. The goal came from a wrist shot that found the top left corner of the goal, beating Ruslan Ivanov cleanly. It would not have any impact on the final outcome of the game, however, as the Goldhorns skated out 4-2 winners on the evening from Anthor.

“I thought it was a decent effort from the boys. It’s not where we want to be 8 or 9 games from now, no, but it’s a game we can look at and take positives from definitely,” said coach Aaron Kuhn after the game. He added, “I thought we looked really good at times, and credit to Devonta because they certainly came out and played a game, but there were times when we looked quite lazy backchecking and that’s something that needs to be fixed as soon as possible.” Some of his players echoed those comments: “I think we can be happy with that performance. It wasn’t the best game we’ve ever played, but like coach said, there are positives for sure,” said Ruslan Ivanov. Razvigor Tsvetanov added, “Win game, always good.”

Ruslan Ivanov was confirmed at coach Aaron Kuhn’s post-match press conference to keep the starting job for game #2 of the tournament, also in Anthor. Watch parties will take place in pubs across the nation, as well as the Nationalplatz in Stelburg and Republiski-Trg in Borograd. The Stelburg Eispalast will also host a viewing party, and all 24,500 seats are expected to be filled.

Plenty of excitement to come, as Siovanija and Teusland’s national hockey team continues its rise on the international stage. The Stelburger Zeitung will be with the team every step of the way, bringing you up-to-the-minute coverage of our national religion’s greatest stage, the World Cup of Hockey.

Inexperienced Minnows crumple in front of the Saints

The Saints kicked off the match in a highly aggressive manner as they won the faceoff. Their attack was fast and furious, channeling shots after shots in the first period. The Minnows on the other hand were still trying to warm up their bodies. Both sides exchanged shots on goal but it was the Saints who would open the scoring for another high scoring match. Having been washed out completely in the previous game against Cosneolta, the Minnows knew that being more aggressive was the answer to getting the goals but it did not marginalise for this encounter.

The Saints gave an early scare to the Fireykop and the Minnows in the 3rd minute. Playing around in their zone between Owen Ekström and Mark Miller with Miller getting the end of the passing move and making his way forward to the Maplish half. He would then skate past his marker, Dudley Buckholz before attempting a wrist shot after relaying a quick one two with Noak Zwack. The Minnows' goaltender, Johnson Rasmus was lucky to be in position to block the shot from Miller, much to the frustration of St Saratoga's head coach Shawn Bosley. Little is known about this young head coach but he was obviously annoyed with the block. The Minnows would pull one attacking chance in response to the Saints' attacking threat. Tiburcio Fran was in control of the puck before relaying it over to Clemente Luciano. Luciano would engage in a cluster passing move with teammates, Dudley Buckholz and Ángel Gabriel as they relayed short passes with each other before Gabriel got the end of the passing move and attempted a slap shot in front of goal. Mark Miller was the denier here as he was just in time to block the shot. It deflected off his shoulders and went into the path of Florentino Jordán who attempted a wrist shot towards goal, but it was held close by David Crawford, the goaltender of the Saints. The Fireykop was obviously disappointed with the close miss as they started singing,

So close, so close, so close
Do try, try, try and try again
Oh dear Jordán, dear Jordán
So have us hide our emotions
before you let us out to a goal
Oh dear Jordán, dear Jordán
Keep it coming.

However, there was only so much that Jordán can do as the Saints were the first to break the deadlock with their goal in the 8th minute. A quick free hit pass from Noak Zwack towards Nathaniel Thorson gave the latter a chance to attempt a drag shot towards goal and Jordán could only watch as the puck made its way towards the net and into the goal, much to Rasmus' best efforts to keep the puck out. St Saratoga 1-0 Mapletish.

That wouldn't be the only goal for the period as St Saratoga were up for another. In the 10th minute, they made good of their chances again as William Green beat Tiburcio Fran from an offensive breakaway from the Minnows' failed attacking play. Green would calmly attempt a wrist shot towards Rasmus and the latter could only watch the puck go into the net once again despite stretching out and trying to block the puck. St Saratoga 2-0 Mapletish. The Minnows were down by two in just two minutes of play, one goal after another. They were however determined to make a response to these two goals. In the 12th minute, Fran would attempt a tip puck lob as he brought the puck back into the Minnows' defence zone. The puck found its way to Ángel Gabriel who calmly controlled it and relayed it over to Buckholz. The Golden Phoenix man however was unable to convert the pass into goal as he was denied by the Saints' goaltender once again. The Fireykop continued to sing and chant in an attempt to reignite the Minnows' spirits as they were determined not to go down in the first period without a goal.

In the 14th minute, the Minnows were on hand for another goal scoring chance. Luciano was with the puck and he single-handedly broke a double team from William Green and Nathaniel Thorson and attempted a drag shot on goal right off the dribble and it found its way right into the hands of David Crawford who had to scramble to get the puck, much to the relieve of head coach Shawn Bosley. On the other bench Epifanio Kike could be seen taking notes on his notebook as he mourned the missed chance. The Minnows were on hand to break the block streak by the Saints' goaltender as they attempted another attacking move in the 16th minute.

The puck was relayed around the Minnows' own half and it found its way towards Rasmus. Rasmus stood up from his goal and he relayed the puck to Fran who did a quick one two with Jordán as they get ahead of the advancing William Green. Fran relayed the puck over to Luciano who beat Noak Zwack with a nutmeg and attempted a quick slapshot on goal. The puck was blocked by Owen Ekström but it was deflected into the path of Dudley Buckholz who attempted another shot on goal. Another unlucky attempt as the puck bounced off the goalposts and was in the path of Mark Miller who cleared the puck out to the Saints' offence.

The buzzer for the first period sounded and the Minnows were down 2-0. The Minnows skated towards each other and huddled together in the middle of the rink to rally each other on for the second period of the match.

The second period started and it was the Minnows who won the faceoff. The Minnows were calm in executing their plays and it was Luciano who would give the Minnows their first chance of the second period. After getting the end of a passing combination amongst his teammates, Fran and Buckholz, Luciano beat the defending Ekström and attempted a wrist shot towards Crawford who blocked it. The puck would get into the path of Luciano once again as he attempted another shot on goal. However this time round, the shot went right into Crawford's hands as he was determined not to let Luciano get another attempt on goal again. Despite, the Minnows best efforts, it was the Saints who will prevail in this period once again.

In the 5th minute of the second period, Noak Zwack was with the puck and he picked up speed on his skates with the puck as he beat his marker Buckholz and while the Maplish defence tried to defend against Zwack, Zwack did not give a second for the defending Fran to steal the puck as he put a shot on goal. Rasmus attempted a save but could only see the puck land into the net. St Saratoga 3-0 Mapletish. The Minnows would formulate a response for this goal as they went on with their attempts to bring the scoreline back to level. Down the boards this time round, Fran attempted a quick down pass down the boards and it founded Luciano who had drifted wide to receive the pass. With Buckholz and Gabriel out in front and in the gaps, Luciano cut into the centre and relayed a pass over to Jordán who would see his wrist shot bounce right off the hands of Crawford and into the path of his defender, Mark MIller, much to the frustration of Jordán.

The Minnows continued trying to break the defences of the Saints. Another attacking attempt saw Buckholz getting the puck after a heavy body check and tackle against Mark Miller in the Saints' half. Buckholz back stick the puck towards the advancing Florentino Jordán who faked a drag shot on goal and get the pass towards Luciano who had the empty net to score, but the quick reflexes of Crawford saw him blocking the shot with his outstretched arms. Luciano could only bury his head in his hands as he skated away from goal. That was not the only time Jordán faked a drag shot. Soon after that attempt on goal, he would get onto the end of a passing move by Fran and Gabriel and attempted a fake drag shot on goal, Jordán followed through the drag motion without releasing the puck for a shot as Luciano picked up the puck and attempted a back stick on goal, which saw the puck bounce off the crossbar and into the hands of Crawford.

The Minnows' bad luck continued as the Saints scored their 4th goal of the match. In the 14th minute, Mark Miller would break into the Maplish's half and relayed a neat pass towards Noak Zwack who would calmly put the puck into the net much to Luciano's best efforts into defending the move. St Saratoga 4-0 Mapletish. The Minnows were nearing another blowout loss but it was the Fireykop who continued their singing and chants in the hopes of securing a goal before the 2nd period ends. The Minnows would put the Fireykop to the edge of their seats once again in the closing minutes of the second period. A well organised defence play from Fran and Jordán saw them squeezing Green out and getting the puck. Fran held onto the puck and skated past Green who was chasing him down. Fran would then relay the puck over to Gabriel who came in from the right flank and he would attempt a short drag shot on goal first hand after receiving the pass. The shot was agonisingly close as it ended in the hands of Crawford.

The closing buzzer for the 2nd period sounded and the Minnows were down 4-0. The Minnows huddled together in the middle of their half once again after the buzzer was sounded seemingly to rally themselves again to finish the match strong and claw back the goals and tighten the scoreline which seemed to be further and further away from the Minnows as the minutes passed. Kike was calm in his interval speech as he too rallied the team together for the last period of the match. The Fireykop kept up with their singing and chants as some fans could be seen assembling close to the Maplish bench from the spectators' seats as they yelled words of encouragement for the squad. The third period was about to start and the Fireykop ended off the intermission with loud a round of applause and cheers as the Minnows skated back to the rink.

The Minnows were first to get to the puck in the face off which started the third period and they were first to get an attempt on goal. After winning the face off, Luciano went straight into the Saints' half as he beat Thorson as the latter attempted to dispossess him of the puck. Zwack and Miller would also fail to get the puck off Luciano as he skated straight towards the goal and attempted a short drag shot on goal against Crawford. Crawford would rely on his reflexes to get a hold onto the puck much to Bosley's relieve. The third period had just begun and the Minnows were already determined to claw back the goals or at least end the match scoring some of their own after seeing themselves drop 4 goals back. That determination however was not enough as the Saints were the first team once again to widen their lead.

In the 4th minute of the third period, Zwack would get the end of the passing move amongst Thorson and Miller and fought off a challenge by Fran to find himself face to face with Rasmus. He would calmly put another puck into the net as Rasmus could only cursed his luck after seemingly being in the right position to block off the shot. It wasn't enough as Zwack found the end of the net. St Saratoga 5-0 Mapletish. The Minnows would formulate another response to the goal straight from the resulting faceoff which was won by Luciano once again. Luciano relayed the puck back to his attacking colleagues and played around the puck in the half in an attempt to bring the momentum towards their side. It would be Fran who would put a puck down the boards from the right and find the stick of Gabriel who broke inside and relayed a shot off the dribble towards Crawford with Luciano picking up the rebound. However both attempts were blocked by Crawford who yelled at his defence for watching the play go on, seemingly in awe by the speed at which the Minnows were able to master their play and picking out their positions.

However, the Saints would have the last laugh as they picked up their sixth goal of the match in the 8th minute. Unfazed by the aggressive pressing of the Maplish side, Miller was able to secure an offensive breakaway as Zwack was able to pick out the space left behind by Jordán as he ventured a little deeper into the Saints' half. It would be Miller who will be the scorer this time round as he managed a shot past Rasmus calmly in another display of showmanship. St Saratoga 6-0 Mapletish.

The Minnows didn't back down and continued to chase for the goals that will prevent David Crawford from getting a shutout. Their determination was to be rewarded in the 10th minute as Buckholz and Gabriel's neat play got Luciano right in position for a neat goal. Gabriel nutmegged Miller and attempted a fake shot towards goal and then relayed a pass over to Luciano who put a shot into goal. The Fireykop rose from their seats and cheered as if they have won the WCOH. St Saratoga 6-1 Mapletish. The Minnows huddled together as they celebrated the goal, which was the result of their attacking efforts.

The Minnows would muster up another close chance once again but they failed to convert the goal once again. Fran tipped a puck over to Gabriel who had his back facing Fran. Controlling the puck with one touch of the stick, he would relay a pass towards Buckholz who failed to convert the pass into a goal as Crawford held the puck close to his body much to his relieve. The Fireykop were frantic for another goal as their singing and chant became much louder. However, it was not to be for the Minnows as they ended the match 6-1 against the Saints, eating another defeat for dinner. Despite, the result, the Fireykop was appreciative of the efforts of the national team as they gave the Minnows a standing ovation and cheered for a great display of ice-hockey. The Minnows skated ahead to congratulate the Saints before skating towards the contingent of Maplish fans who sang and cheered their loudest throughout the match. Kike could be seen changing into skates and going out to the rink to join the Minnows in thanking the Fireykop once again for their unwavering support.

In the post match press conference, Kike promised the press that the Minnows would deliver in the next few matches. He was quoted as saying, "Firstly, I would like to congratulate St Saratoga for a match well played. The Maplish team has done their best and they have shown in the match against St Saratoga that they were fighting for every attacking play that they have made and fighting for every goal that they have conceded in an attempt to tighten the scoreline. It was unlucky for the attacking trio, Luciano, Buckholz and Gabriel for failing to convert so many good chances. But, I'm sure with every defeat, the players learn valuable lessons which will be key towards the team's return into multiverse hockey. We take the loss here and learn the lessons that comes with it. I would also like to thank the Fireykop for their unwavering support and their singing, chanting and cheers are un-doubtfully very useful for the players, as each time they wanted to give up, they picked themselves up again and remembered it is not only themselves that they are playing for, they are also playing for the fans who have come so far to watch them play. I'm sure we will pick ourselves up and deliver the results."

Tourism sector grows for the 9th running year

The yearly Economical Report is out - a joint responsibility from the Ministries of Finance, Infrastructure/Transportation, Environment/Energy/Resources, and Employment/Economy - and one of the most important pillars of the Ko-orenite economy remains tourism. According to regional experts, Ko-oren might be as high as second in popular tourist destinations across Atlantian Oceania. The department of Tourism, part of the Infrastructure/Transportation Ministry, is not willing to let it sit there and has announced some plans to strengthen the sector, while pledging to protect that what Ko-oren's largest strength is: the environment. Without the landscape as beautiful as it is, tourism would not be sector that it is.

One plan that has already started to roll out and is working, is the creation of canons of places of interest. Domestic tourism is already responding very well to it, with many Ko-orenites going out to see the most important spots. There is one overarching Canon, with 12 landmarks on it, ranging from landscapes and natural parks to historical buildings and museums. One often overlooked one is yDremdun, the archipelago in Western Ko-oren piercing into the Salamantic Sea of northwestern Atlantian Oceania. yDremdun is selected as a natural highlight of Ko-oren given its size and its importance in natural cycles: years, seasons, tides and even astronomical occurrences are clearly visible. Visited by birds, sea mammals, fish and land mammals, and its flora that makes it possible to pinpoint the exact week of the year given which flowers are blooming, make it one of Ko-oren's most interesting places. The 12 most important spots will be presented in a series, which continues today from number 5.

In future plans, the ministry is trying to perfect a tried and tested method of getting around: maps. Instead of showing everything, the plan is to show a normal city map on one side, and using the reverse for simply showing what there is to do in the city, how to get there relative to the city's central station. If successful, it might make it even easier to get around the many beautiful cities of Ko-oren.

Another plan is to expose Ko-oren to even more outsiders by hosting events. Apart from a World Cup of Hockey in the past, Ko-oren is not exactly a nation that is known to be a popular place for big events like that.

Krenorussian Broadcasting Company

Rogate City, Anthor - The Krenorussian Hockey Team, known as the Krenorussian Beasts, has lost against the national hockey team from North Prarie. Krenorussian fans were wrecked while some shouted slurs and cussed at the supporters of the North Prarie team. James Fogg-Czines told reporters in the press conference after the match that, 'The Beasts have not shown their true potential today. I regret the fact that we lost and I apologise to all Krenorussian fans who came all the way to Anthor to see us play.' This comes after multiple accusations of corruption against the Krenorussian 'Dominion Hockey Association'. These accusations came after the first match against Savojarna. Where the Krenorussian team lost five to nil. Many Krenorussians say this is a 'great improvement' and that Krenorus would surely be able to win the next few matches.

We look at KBC sports reporter Semy Le'Roi. Who wrote a graphic report on what happened:

***

Semy Le'Roi, KBC SPORTS
The match kicked off with a relatively calm start. The Krenorussian team soon took control of the puck. Even the most hardcore fans could see that they were decimated from their last encounter with the Hockey Team from Savojanar. A hockey player from the opponent team of North Prarie soon took control of the puck after a small scuffle with Erik von Neumann, who lost control of the puck. The opponent soon shot the puck at the goal after steamrolling through the unexpecting defenders, the puck was deflected by Ouilsonne as it went into the control of Fritj Steiner. Steiner avoided the opponent who had failed to score as he ruthlessly tried to take the puck from Steiner. The opponent's team soon came charging in and Steiner shot the puck to Tiggers, who successfully got the puck before one of the opponents rushed him and stole the puck. Tiggers' stick hit the opponent by accident but no fight broke out as the hurting opponent fired the puck at the goal, scoring the first point in the match.

By now, it was already five minutes; the Krenorussian team tried to counter-attack but failed miserably as a small brawl broke between Jacob Smith-Winstons and one of the opponents, allowing another opponent to steal the puck. Krenorus' Hockey history itself has been full of brawls, from the 1970s and 1980s where whole teams would fight to the 1990's where fighting was strictly prohibited to finally the 2000s where fighting made a comeback as on-ice referees relaxed their prohibition of fighting, although some players were punished for engaging in fisticuffs. Back to the game, the opponent who had stolen the puck was now going with his team quickly for the goal, but Mikaelo stopped him and shot the puck to Steiner, who deflected it to Tiggers. Tiggers slid with the puck and as he got near the goal, it looked like he was going for the score; but he wasn't. He quickly spanned around and shot to puck to von Neumann, who was right behind him. Von Neumann shot it and the goalkeeper for the opponent team barely deflected it with his stomach. The crowd of the opponent's team cheered as they thought that there would be a victory, a strong one. It was one to nil with New Prarie in the lead. One of the players on the opposing team was soon able to score a point after an intense session of sliding and avoiding Krenorussian players while passing the puck back-and-forth between his fellow team members. It was now two to nil and it was thought that another repeat of the Krenorus v. Savojanar match would happen.

As the playing went on, no one seemed to be able to get a lead. The first line of players was switched to the second, and then the third, and then finally the first line was back again. They had been able to rest, now was their time to score. As time ticked - second by second - the players of the Krenorussian team, Tiggers and von Neumann in particular, started to almost score. They decided to repeat their previous tactic. Tiggers gained control of the puck and slid with the puck - while being supported by his team - and as he got near the goal, it looked like he was going for the score; but he wasn't. He quickly spanned around and shot to puck to von Neumann, who was right behind him to the left this time. Von Neumann shot, and as time slowed down, an opposing member of the New Prarie team tried to stop the puck with his stick, but he missed the puck. The puck sped passed another few chaps who tried to catch it and it went right between the opposing goalkeeper's legs!

A Score for Krenorus! A Score for the Dominion!

The Krenorussian crowd went wild. Clapping, screaming, and even a bit of jumping as the opposing team probably brushed the score off. They were still in the lead, anyway.

What followed was brutal minutes of playing. Soon, one of the opponents shot the puck at the Krenorussian Goal. Ouilsonne, in a stunning move, deflected it with his stick, causing the puck to zoom through both teams like lightning by being barely hit by sticks or legs and going through a few of the legs. It turned out that Smith-Winstons had been near the enemy goalkeeper when he got control of the puck. He quickly shot it and the enemy goalkeeper missed it. It went into the goal! Another score! The crowd cheered with a fire that only the majestic beasts of the wild could replicate. Krenorussian short hymns and songs were hummed and sung. Krenorus had just scored the equalizer in this match. Brutal fighting continued as Krenorus tried to score but just could not. Brawls and quite a few numbers of bruises happened.

In the last minute of the game, the team of New Prarie had been just able to come into range of the goal. The youngest member of the opponent team shot a puck from the middle area of the playing area. The puck - by the grace of God, some say - went through both teams as they were brawling and was going straight to the goal. Ouilsonne - emboldened by pride - tried to slide and kneel while hitting the puck with his stick to send over to Smith-Winstons, who was able to score for the Krenorussian team. Either Krenorus would win... or lose. Smith-Winstons was ready, so, Ouilsonne slid and knelt. He swung his hockey stick... but the unexpected happened... He missed! The ball swept into the goal as the cries of the opposing team could be heard. They had won! Krenorus had lost. However, they had done well. In the end, both teams congragulated each other, and Krenorus prooved that it could score in International Hockey.

Jason Harvyn was a score and a quarter, which was a phrase Krenorussians said for those people who were twenty-four years old. He had enjoyed the second game considering the Krenorussian Beasts had improved drastically from the previous game. He decided to go to a local pub to get a drink. As he walked in, he ordered a pint of lager from the bartender. He normally drank only half-pints, but today he was giving into the temptation of a full pint. He drank it with a mediocre speed. He watched as other customers went in and bought drinks. Many of them sporting t-shirts which were supporting their home country or some other country. Many of the fans in the pub were talking about the match between New Prarie and Krenorus. Harvyn continued drinking on. His mind began to wonder off. He started to think about his family. He had left his three-year-old bastard son which his illegitimate partner had borne into this world. His partner and his child were living a poor life. Why had he left them? He was a factory worker who got high pay due to his labour union threatening to strike if the pay was not raised. He was an active component of his city block's Worker's Union and yet he had left his partner to be a single mother. When she had begged him to let her live with him and promised him she would work to make money as well, he refused. He refused to even buy her food when she had begged him while he ate some burger of a fast-food chain. He started to feel... guilty; and when he felt guilty, she felt sad; and when he felt sad, he always wanted to get angry at something, like his partner and son, which caused him to repeat the cycle of guiltiness.

This time, he felt he could make a difference by supporting his home team, Krenorus. He wasn't even thinking when he stood up and shouted it at the top of his lungs, like cussing after stepping on a lego brick. 'F*ck the other teams!" he shouted to widened eyes and uplifted eyebrows. 'F*ck New Prarie! Go Krenorus!' he said to disgusted mouths while storming out of the pub, leaving a quarter of a pint behind. As he was walking, he started to notice some bald men behind him following him. Even though he was almost drunk, he stumbled into an alley and began to sluggishly run. It started out as a slight faster-than-average jog, but when the men behind him started chasing him, it became a deadly situation. He started to run, and run fast he did. Moving through the alleyways and avoiding cardboard boxes and the occasional dumpster. Soon, he was almost at the exit, he turned around. There was nobody following him. At that moment, the very end of his blonde hair felt a tingling sensation. Maybe it was his partner, she had always done that... just maybe... This soon turned into him feeling the hard-hitting-reality of the situation:

That tingling sensation his military-cut hair had found, it was the end of a wooden cricket bat.

His world went dark, and all the memories started to arrive, from indirectly causing the death of his mother by refusing to take her to the hospital when she was sick to refusing to help his father when he was in debt to the Jewish Mob, the 2nd Aryvt 'Ezym, and they did not punish his father lightly because his father was of Slovenian-heritage, and the Slovenian Mob had, along with other mobs, betrayed the first Aryvt 'Ezym. That first Aryvt 'Ezym would later be destroyed by the Giovanni's. His father face was mutilated and beaten until unrecognisable and he was stripped naked and hung from his apartment window, by the leg. His brother had gotten terminally ill cancer from smoking and he refused to help pay for the hospital charges. His brother later died of cancer. Harvyn did not even attend any of their funerals since he was busy gambling away whatever spare money he could have used to help them.

He suddenly woke up. He was hanging an electricity pole. He looked down, he was shirtless and on his body an inscription was there, carved by a knife on his delicate, pale skin. 'Deth tu Krenoros'. The spelling was all wrong, but those who had done it would get their message through, no Krenorussians were welcomed by them. Whether they were from New Prarie or Anthor or some other team's supporter offended by Harvyn's message, the police would probably never know. He began to think of his family, he had never said sorry to them... but then he had also never forgiven them for the things they had done for him. His father had beaten him with a metal belt when he was younger, along with his mother. His brother had bullied him and pulled down his pants at his school's public speaking event when he had told his brother he was going without underwear due to his mother being sick and as such, not being able to wash the clothes by hand, since they had no washing machine. His brother had burned cigarettes into his back to cure his 'sissyness'.

The only people he did not have a reason to give bad treatment to was his partner, his son, and his mother. Maybe his mother had been a bit strict on him and had hit him with medium intensity a few times, but he now understood that was so that he would know not to do those things in front of his faster, for if he did... he would get the belt as punishment. His partner? Maybe it was the regret of his family and his childhood. That was why he had been so brutal to them. If he could see them, he'd say he was sorry. Anyway, he was going to meet his family in heaven, or hell...

One of the men who had done this thing to him looked at Harvyn. "So, Krenorussian?" he said with a smirk, "what are your last words?" Harvyn did not respond for a moment. His mind thinking... "Krenorussian... spit it out," the man said with a bit more anger this time. Weakly... Harvyn spoke these words before gasping for his last breath of air:

'You only see past your arrogance in death...'

Once his body was found and identified, the Krenorussian OuterRealm Criminal Investigation Unit tried to contact the Anthorian police. Maybe they would get a response from them, maybe they would not... anyhow, they would send a man to investigate what was happening.

Subject: Unfortunate Death of Krenorussian

Head of the Police Department of Rogate City,
I wish to inform you that we have been tasked with investigating the death of Jason Harvyn. Can you please provide us with details and some information? We plan to send an agent to help with the investigation. This is of the utmost importance. We would also like to do an autopsy on the body. We are bringing a team of surgeons to do so. After that, we will transport Mister Harvyn's body back to Krenorus while we continue, with your cooperation perhaps, to search for the culprits of this heinous crime. Anyhow, thank you.

Sincerely,
Ceeshawn McGregour
Head Constable of the Krenorussian OuterRealm Criminal Investigation Unit: KORCIU

Monsters lose cool, game

WCOH - The Lake Monsters of Lycrabon, hoping to follow up on an impressive tie against the sixth-ranked squad in the world, instead fell flat on their faces, falling 4-1 to Thibaea. Statring goalie Tom Marin was torched for two goals on the opposition's first three shots before being pulled. Backup netminder Brendan Reynolds allowed one more in the third, before an empty net goal closed out the scoring.

The lone bright spot was co-captain Nathan Fuller, who scored a highlight reel goal with two seconds left in the second period. That started a melee, as he was blindsided as he shot the puck. What followed was pure chaos, as three players picked up fighting majors, one of which was a game misconduct. Head coach Andy Emery also got the gate arguing about the original cheap shot.

"They knew it was cheap, and they still (expletive) tried to injure our guy," was his post-game response. "That's what I argued, they should have had an intent to injure penalty." Te ensuing ten minute power play resulted in a 3-1 lead.
