Watson's Bay International Rugby 7's
An NSRB Sevens Series Event

IC Information
The Kiaser Colonies is an expansive archipelago located in North East Rushmore. The majority of the country's population live in either the main land or the biggest of the islands, Terra Kelly. The main cities are the capital Highroyds, New Sydney, Watson's Bay, Kaiserville, Kilbarrack, Cronulla and New Leeds. The Kiaser's are a sport loving people who will get excited about almost any sport with the main cities and many large towns having professional or semi-professional teams in rugby union, football, rugby league and Australian rules football. Rugby union is particularly popular with rugby seven's also tapping into this popularity. The Kiaser's are also highly sociable and thoroughly enjoying interacting with visiting fans and tourists. The climate of the Kiaser Colonies can be classified as humid sub-tropical in the south around the main land and the bigger islands, and Mediterranean in the northern half of the archipelago. Both are generally mild with hot to warm summers featuring clear skies and little rain, while the winters are mild to cool with frequent light rain. The main language of the Kiaser Colonies is English but extensive investment in the learning of languages means their is a high proportion of multi-lingual citizens able to speak fluent French, German, Spanish and Japanese among other languages.

Rugby is the third most popular sport in Elejamie, behind ice hockey and football (or soccer; American football is called "gridiron" and is considered a niche sport at best). Rugby union is the most popular form in Elejamie, with rugby league having a small but loyal fanbase. However, it wasn't until 2016 when there finally was an officially sanctioned rugby sevens tournament was announced: The ERC 7s, which begins on the fourth Friday of August and lasts for three days. Simply put, all twelve teams in that season's ERC (Elejamian Rugby Championship) are divided into two groups of six and play a single round robin tournament to see whether they'll play for the Cup, the Plate or the Bowl. The first group's games are played on the Friday, the second group's games are played on the following Saturday and the semi-finals, 3PPOs and Cup/Plate/Bowl finals are played on Sunday afternoon/evening. The second tournament in Edgebaston saw the Murgon Bullfrogs shut out the Coventry Wyverns 12-0, thanks to two tries from Adam McCracken. The Plate saw the Avon Knights crush both their opponents (44-0 against the Elejamie City Eagles in the semi-final and 41-6 against the Auckhampton Birch Trees in the final), whereas the Iceland Panthers beat the newly-promoted Mainsborough Delphi 19-11 to take home the Bowl. The third edition of the tournament is set to begin in Rosetta.

Irises Sevens - Info

The LRU has decided to give priority to the June internationals, so the sevens team arrives Watson Bay deprived of six players who played Savojar International Sevens. To cover these vacancies, a selection of young and college players come face to face with the big names in the world Sevens. The team, headed by Gaetan Latta, has the debut of two promising new generation: Guilherme Roux, age 18, younger brother of International Murilo Roux, prominent player of Poli Soria in the University Rugby Championship, and Matias Baudelaire, age 19, playing for Midland University, Elejamie.

The Lisander Rugby Union uniforms for the season 26 are made by Valls Rugby. Contrary to what was believed, Valls didn't produce new Uniforms for Sevens, not for this tournament. Irises Sevens are using Irises RWC26 Uniforms.

New South Munster 7's rugby team sets out for the final leg of it's remarkable debut season in stunning form. While the series table offers little to be excited about coming into the final event in Watson's Bay in the Kiaser Colonies (New South Munster sit on only 15 points and cannot catch Lisander or Elejamie), the rankings tell a different story. Having reached a competitive final in all three series events so far, the New South Munster men sit in 8th place in the world rankings. This disparity is down to the series table accounting for the top 16 teams in an event, meaning lower trophies often don't affect the table. However, New South Munster's stunning knock-out form has allowed them to put themselves in a strong position for the Watson's Bay 7's, being placed into pot 2 for the group draw. The resulting draw was less kind than it could have been to the reds however. They find themselves in Pool D, drawn with rugby powerhouses Lisander, Darmen and Mattijana, as well as newcomers Maryloupe.
Pool D
Lisander (Series: 1, Rank: 2 )
New South Munster (Series: 13, Rank: 8 )
Darmen (Series: 9, Rank: 10 )
Mattijana (Series: 20, Rank: 18 )
Maryloupe (Series: UR, Rank: UR )

While pool D is one of the pools most likely to produce a clear cut winner in Lisander, it will offer some of the stiffest competition for the coveted 2nd place in the quarter finals. Darmen will be desperate to go out with a bang to finish in the top 5 in the series, as well as push for a similar place in the world rankings. The expected route to this goal would be to beat New South Munster. The two sides are separated only by 1.3 ranking points, indicating that this will be the tightest encounter of the group as well as one of the most competitive of the entire tournament. However, both sides will have to be be wary of the challenge of a proud Mattijana side. Despite not hitting the heights that most rugby fans would expect of a Mattijana rugby team this series, they should always be expected to fire on all cylinders in any given game. And as in any sporting event, teams should have a healthy fear of the unknown, Maryloupe in this case. New South Munster know as well as anyone how impressive a debutante can be. Especially on a opening fixture. New South Munster have the unenviable task of facing the new faces in their opener. And with their following fixture being against Lisander, a win is all but crucial to their hopes of progressing to the cup competition for successive events. All in all, New South Munster will be expecting to move onto the top eight.

In the pools B and C, it would be hard to look past Elejamie, Nova Anglicana, Abanhfleft and Neu Engollon as the top two in their respective pools. Pool A has a similarly congested battle for second place as pool D. Hutanjia are easy favourites for the top spot, but Copper Cuprum, the United States of Devonta and the hosts, the Kiaser Colonies, are all close neighbours in the rankings. One would expect that the loud and passionate crowd would give the Kiaser Colonies an advantage, but the rankings and recent form suggests Copper Cuprum will shade this battle.

NORTH PRARIE OFFICIAL RUGBY SEVENS SIDE

North Prarie will make their rugby debut at the Watson's Bay 7's tournament in The Kiaser Colonies. Rugby was played during colonial times in North Prarie, but since then has fallen into a sport that is played and followed by the wealthy and exotic, usually both. The team gets most of their talent from regional leagues, which in turn get their talent from private universities and wealthy urban high schools.

Roger Núnez: A good win for the kalactanians today over Natians And Nosts today, right Bill

Bill Wright: you sure are right Roger the reason the kalactanians won is because they dominated the tempo Natians And Nosts played slower today meanwhile the kalactanians played fast good rugby.

RN: that’s for sur bill another reason why we won is because Greg Kinsler was too fast for their players he is a small winger that dominates 7s with his small size.

BW: Yes that was some great playing by Kinsler today hopefully he can keep it up for the rest of the tournament.

RN: yes tomorrow we have a bye but in 2 days we will be playing against Alice Bay.

The Iceberg is coming
Leading Article, by Adam Hillsborough, TRZ Executive Director

Alice Bay is a small country. Maybe we were not born to be a power in any sport. Our national cricket team plays along with Lisander. Our national beach soccer team has hit the crossbar, but it seems like we will never have a cup again... We have the rugby. And it is to the Rugby that we of the TRZ we dedicate ourselves. And we dedicate ourselves because we love this game. And we get sick with every new ABRU mess.

It's already six straight defeats against Lisander, and the Union insists on scaling the same players. Once again, the Sevens team arrived completely unprepared to play in The Kiaser Colonies. And these are just two tips of the iceberg that is approaching more and more of the boat that carries the ABRU Board of Directors. Our team of reporters went deep to find the reasons of size neglect with the national rugby. Let's not talk about the mess that was the last games of the Unions Cup, you can read here, here and here.

Before we are considered to be arrogant and ungrateful, we would like to make it clear that we are not and have never been against the current management plan to modernize local rugby by relying on giving money to district unions. We are grateful to AMI and LINIERS for supporting National Rugby, and shamelessly remember that both companies are also sponsors of TRZ.AB. Their work is brilliant. Our problem is with the incompetence of the Union managers. In theory, it's not a bad management. In practice, it's a messy management, that tangles itself in pretty much everything.

The men representing Alice Bay at Watson's Bay Sevens arrived at Bay Arena just minutes before the start of the game against Neu Engollon. If you want to think it was a game we would probably lose, go ahead and feel unconcerned. But TRZ works with facts and perceptions of people who really love rugby, and who chose to live by taking rugby to all the citizens of our nation. And what all our people have realized is that Alice Bay needs urgent action. Or we'll soon leave the Division 1 of Imperan Rugby (and consequently, the NSRB tournaments).

Of course, not everyone knows how to plan a full year of travel expenses, national teams, support for Juniors and Mini, suppliers and everything. Not everyone knows how to plan a game schedule without overburdening the districts and still allowing participation in international tournaments. But what we expect is that for the next games, be it sevens or XV, the board has a better attitude than pretending not to see, that finally admits that certain things do not get fixed over time and some firmness is needed to deal with it.

Enough of hassles, ABRU. We want our rugby to come out of stagnation, and this is your duty.

General meeting of ABRU postponed. Again.

Mattijanan Roster and Team Information
Image
Rugby in Mattijana

The sport of Rugby has always had a reasonable following in Mattijana, but has never troubled the likes of Hockey, Cricket and Winter sports in terms of popularity. That began to change after the Olympics however, when the Mattijanan women's sevens team beat North Eurasia to seal a surprise gold medal.
Rugby Sevens has always been the most popular form of rugby in Mattijana due to the cocktail of speed, skill and strength required to be successful at it. Union is less liked, due to what Mattijanans, who are in general fairly slender, see as an unfair advantage to big people.
Following the success of the Olympics, Mattijana began to expand its fairly underdeveloped league with some players even taking up the sport professionally. The increased awareness for the sport also led to increased participation at grass-roots level with young people and adults all encouraged to participate.

Sevens is particularly popular in the West and Centre North of Mattijana, which has a wetter climate leading to the softer pitches that are more friendly to players of a fast contact sport. These areas are largely Germanic, but have training facilities where players from other parts of the country can learn and practise the game.
The Mattijanan team itself is a largely female one following their success in Aeropag, but with a few of the male players who were ultimately disappointing after a strong performance in qualifying.

Head Coach-Dominika Simonic:

Despite only making the switch from rugby league into full time coaching 2 years ago, Simonic is already regarded as a national hero and a very good manager, both tactically and in terms of the personal relationship with the players. She masterminded the Olympic victory and appreciates that there is only one proper way to play rugby sevens-attack, attack attack.
The season has presented a new challenge however and the team has struggled so far, slipping down the rankings and the season leaderboard. As a result, there is increased pressure on the coaching staff coming into the Watson's Bay tournament.

Offensive Coach-Mattias Sichermann:

Attack is the most important part of most rugby sevens teams, in particular this one and Mattias Sichermann is as good a choice as any to manage it. Mixing a less popular, but ultimately extremely effective method of drilling his players in order to achieve maximum possible consistency with imagination and creativity, Sichermann is responsible for working out how to best use the talented attacking players at his disposable.

Defensive Coach-Andreas Marinicic:

Defense is a tough task in sevens, but Marinicic managed to introduce some form of resistance during the Olympics and plans to continue this. His main tactic is a seven-man defence with the attacking players responsible for pressing the attacking team high up the pitch to prevent them from breaking out, whilst introducing defensive techniques to wingers who have the pace to get back and make match saving tackles. All teams concede points, but Marinicic's mantra is that attack and intensity are the best ways to limit this.

Fitness Coach-Julia Kranjeberg:

Fitness plays a huge part in any Rugby sevens team, but the high attack and intensity of the Mattijanan side means it is even more applicable to them, especially with teams often having to play multiple matches on the same day. Kranjeberg, a chemical and bio-medical scientist with an experienced job in the Mattijanan Olympic side, Julia has a range of exercises and techniques to enhance speed and stamina.

Starting VII:

Prop-Martin Schimpelsberg:

A powerful player making up part of Mattijana's all male scrum, Schimpelsberg is a mainly defensive player with the occasional run forward to supply the backs.

Hooker-Danil Pecirep:

The typical central enforcer, Pecirep is an intimidating presence in the team in both directions with some driving runs forward and some solid tackles when defending. His pace (or lack of) is probably his biggest weakness, but that is made up for by other members of the team.

Prop-Sami Kravinski:

Another powerful player, Kravinski completes the scrum and is one of the younger members of the team at the age of 21. He can make a tackle, but is slightly quicker than his two scrum-mates and will likely be the last line of conventional defence.

Scrum-half-Katarina Ljubjevic:

The team captain, Ljubjevic is an experienced scrum half with both the ability to thread moves together and the pace and talent to finish them off. She was one of the star players during Mattijana's Olympic victory and will definitely be one to keep an eye on. Also takes the kicks, normally quite well.

Fly-half-Jessika Vrisilic:

Another gold medallist, Vriisilic has a great relationship with the players either side of her and will play in a mainly passing position during the tournament. She can also step in at scrum-half or centre if required.

Centre-Maria Uranj:

Maria Uranj was by far the most prolific scorer for Mattijana at the Olympics and makes up for a slight deficiency in pace with a repertoire of tricks and fancy footwork that can send even the most alert defender the wrong way. She has been in continued form for her domestic side and will look to trouble the opposition defences yet again.

Wing-Jasmin Simjonic:

One of the headline players in the team, Simjonic mainly earns her success through good timing and blistering pace which not many opposition defenders managed to temper during the Olympics. She ran in a try during the final, sandwiched by two from Urinj and will be looking for more during the tournament.

Reserves:

Jelena Dragovic-Hooker
Julia Donnersberg-Prop
Helena Kreuzmann-Prop
Martin Jelavic-Scrum half
Kevin Xhaka-Fly half
Naomi Regner-Centre
Matej Blaszikov-Wing

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
National rugby sevens team

This will be the first time that Abanhfleft will be participating in the Watson's Bay International Sevens, which also happens to be in its first edition right now. Rugby sevens is, quite frankly, a fringe sport in the Democratic Republic, with most of its players being either rugby union or rugby league players in their professional careers. However, the country simply couldn't resist the temptation to go for some sporting silverware, and therefore the rugby sevens national team that was assembled and sent to Londinium in Nova Anglicana for yet another shot at glory is now back and in The Kiaser Colonies for more glory, and this time they want something very shiny!

THE CHIEFDOM OF COPPER CUPRUM
NATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS TEAM

This is the first time that Copper Cuprum will be participating in an international rugby sevens competition, as well as the Savojar International Sevens. Rugby is the most popular sport in Copper Cuprum, and although rugby league is the more popular code in the Chiefdom, both rugby union and rugby sevens still have a decent following. Copper Cuprum had been long isolated from the international community since it is a small island archipelago located deep in the middle of the Lazarus Ocean, far from any regular shipping lanes since man first sailed ships. The nation was only discovered by the Fleftic Navy in 1914, when they were searching for the daughter of President Rufus Wole Mensah, whose ship was wrecked in the general vicinity of the islands. Arriving in the capital of the islands, they discovered that Chief Zed had made the President's daughter his queen, generating a sudden alliance between the two countries. And Copper Cuprum was also rich in copper, so that was a good thing for Abanhfleft too...

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation:
The Chiefdom of Copper Cuprum
Demonym: Copperite
Kits: Initially, the Copperite national rugby sevens team was not supposed to wear any kits as ordinary people know them. Instead they would have played wearing only white loincloths and nothing else. However, in the interests of modesty and compliance with the international standard, the Copperite team has elected to choose a new uniform with alternating black and white hoops and black shorts.
Team colors: Black and white
Style modifier: +1.00 (A balanced team with a slight focus on offense)
Head coach: Count Tumale Boweba (47 y/o, Copper Cuprum)
Notes: It is Copperite tradition to slit the throat of a live chicken before a game and then spread the spilled blood on the field. However, after the Valladar authorities advised the Copperite Football Federation against performing this tradition after local audiences were shocked by this tradition, it has been decided that in place of this tradition, Copperite players will now cut off the head of a rubber chicken before a game and then toss the head around like a hot potato. However, Copperite players will now perform the chicken sacrificing ritual whether or not the other team (or the event organizers for that matter) likes it. The Copperites hope to turn this tradition into their version of the haka.

STARTING SEVEN

Dave Carrey's Quick Guide to Pool B
Dave Carrey - Watson's Bay, The Kiaser Colonies

And so here we are. The last stop on the NSRB Sevens Series Tour. Well, the last stop before the grand final itself. We are at the Watson's Bay 7s, held in the Bay Arena located in the eponymous Watson's Bay in the Kiaser Colonies. Despite a few setbacks, the main one being a few months of inactivity that saw a tournament cancelled, it's been a great series all-round. We've had plenty of good games, plenty of shock wins, plenty of action and even a bit of silverware that we won in Lisander who, funnily enough, prevented us from getting the first cup of the tour thanks to a 21-17 win in Neu Engollon. It's been a good ride and here's hoping the revamped Rugby Sevens World Cup will be worth the wait.

But enough reminiscing. So how about last time? We weren't that good compared to how we were in Soria. Probably due to the wait meaning that coach Kim's boys had to get used to playing sevens again after a while of playing 15-a-side. We got things rolling with a 28-12 victory over Nevis and Kitts, which was then followed up with a 31-14 win over New South Munster. A 33-7 demolition of Filindostan meant we finished top of Group F and, as one of the best group winners, won us a spot in the running for the Savojar People's Trophy. After some time off to let the SPT KO round happen, we were up against Barunia, which we thought would be a hard-fought win. It was a hard-fought win but not for us as the Waves overcame us 21-17; they'd go on to win the tournament outright with a 24-12 win over New South Munster whereas Lisander had to settle for the Sjoedrhavn Shield, which they won thanks to a 21-17 win over Hutanjia. The hosts finished fourth, by the way, losing 26-12 to NSM before losing 31-26 to the Main Nation Ministry. Disappointing, yes, but the upside was that we were able to keep our lead at the top of the Sevens Series table, which should be some small consolation.

Image
Riley Kroger, seen here in training for the
Avon Knights. I'm not sure when this was
taken, though.
But let's cast that out of our mind. After all, we're on the last stop of the tour before the R7WC so we can only look ahead. We've got the same squad as last time, which could be a slight detriment considering our performance in Savojarna, although I reckon there's still a chance we'll pull through and make up for our poor performance in the last one. We're in Pool B, which seems to be a Pool of Death when you consider our opponents, although there's still a good chance that they might not do as well as they'd normally do. Not to mention that there are a couple of other pools like that. And there are a number of teams who are also hoping to make up for their poor performance at the last one, although there are a few who did very well in Savojarna and are hoping to use what they did over there to do just as well over here. Enough yakking, I'll get right into them.

And who will our first opponents be? Nova Anglicana. This will probably be a very tough opener, although fortunately they should still be a bit tired from their first game against North Prarie while we have a small advantage of having more time to squeeze in some training. That being said, they were another team that underperformed at the last tournament. First up, they lost their opener, 24-10 to the Main Nation Ministry, although fortunately they bounced back thanks to a 29-21 win over Mattijana. However, a 17-17 draw against Darmen meant they had to settle for competing for the Sjoedrhavn Shield. Which wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the fact that their quarter-final game was a rematch against Darmen, one they lost 24-19. Ouch.

Afterwards would be another potentially tough game, this time against Savojarna. A team that's always better on home ground than they are world-wide, although my best guess is that they're more used to the climate. They also won all of their group stage games (26-12 against the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, 48-0 against Hutanjia and 40-0 against Qasden) but what's more impressive was that they were the only team to finish with a point differential in three digits; +102. Which might seem fishy but let's not turn into conspiracy theorists over here. They slowed down a bit in the knock-out stage though, with a 12-5 win against the Alpine Union when they could've easily scored double that. Then came the aforementioned losses to New South Munster and the Main Nation Ministry. Slightly disappointing, yes, but considering that in Lisander they finished fourth in their group and lost their plate quarter-final game to the Natanians and Nosts (and didn't even compete at all in Neu Engollon) it's also proof of what they're capable of.

Once we're done there, we're up against a relatively easy side in Qasden. They were also in Savojarna but performed even worse than the other two teams I've mentioned so far? How badly, you may ask? They lost their opener against Hutanjia 32-14. They did, however, bounce back with a 29-5 win over the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, which gave them high hopes going into their final game. A game that ended in a 40-0 defeat to the aforementioned Savojarna. Which might not seem so bad if it weren't for the fact that they were one of two teams who were eliminated in the group stage, alongside Neu Engollon which came as a massive shock. And with a rematch dawning against Team Savojar, expect them to try and get revenge.

And, finally, we have North Prarie. They're new to the tournament so they should be in for a tough time. However, that might not be the case. After all, Siovanija and Teusland performed quite well at the last World Cup of Hockey and we very nearly made it into the cup stage in our first sevens tournament back in Nova Anglicana, so never dismiss the newcomers. It probably also helps that they appear to have a history of rugby, even if it's primarily played by the upper class, which should hopefully give them an edge, as well as try and expand the sport to the different classes.

Image
Coach Kim, seen here coming out onto the pitch to console his
team after the 21-17 defeat to Barunia in Savojarna.
So where do I think we'll end up? I know we're cup-bound for sure, probably in first place although I won't discount a second since, again, we're in pool of death territory here. However, it's just a question of where all the other teams will be going. Will Nova Anglicana be joining us in the next round or will they have to settle for the plate? Will Savojarna be joining us or will they have to settle for the plate? Will North Prarie pull off a shock or will they end up like the rest of the newcomers? So many questions that I don't know the answers to. We'll just have to wait and see.

So what about the other pools? Any other pools of death here in the Kiaser Colonies? Yes there are, in fact. Pool D seems to be the deathiest of them all, with sevens powerhouse Lisander having to share with not-good-but-still-decent teams such as Mattijana, Darmen and New South Munster, as well as the obligatory team that'll be blown out of the water in Maryloupe. Pool C seems to be somewhat stabler, with the definite powerhouse Neu Engollon, the brilliant Abanhfleft and Natanians and Nosts, the incredibly decent Alice Bay and up-and-comer Northwest Kalactin. And, finally we dip into the host's pool, where they'll be joined by Hutanjia (who are league legends but hit-and-miss in other codes), the bizarre Copper Cuprum, the United States of Devonta and another team that will probably be in for a bad time, Valliesta. While I'm sure we'll be seeing some shocks, I can definitely say we're in for some great games.

Anything else to say? Not really, although Matias Beaudelaire, the Lisanderian fly-half who played for the Eastern EU Elephants in the LARFC Sevens, will be representing his home nation here; while he's just a substitute at the minute, here's hoping he'll get plenty of playing time. And Mical Caerofim has hinted that the Rugby Sevens World Cup could be his last international tournament, although since nothing's been confirmed we're not going to report on it just yet. And not forgetting that all the matches should be available on The Rugby Channel, so if you can't make the trip like I have then there's that. Now I've said everything, I'll sit back and watch some great sevens action.

M: “Hello, good evening, Neu Engollon and to our always wonderful International viewers. Thanks for tuning into the NETV Sports 7 Update. I'm Magda Wertauer and of course, next to me is my co-host, Karl Demais. We're in Burgunden, watching from afar as the Goats duke it out in Watson's Bay, The Kiaser Colonies for that championship’s cup. We just witnessed the first match, if you weren’t tuned in earlier...”

K: “Yes, Magda. We saw the Goats defeat Alice Bay 28 to 14, which is no easy feat. When it comes to union, Alice Bay is in the very competitive Imperan Union, taking on Lisander and other neighboring nations. Some of that rugby experience carries over to sevens. URSA 7’s is where we saw them have their start in the international arena, outside of play against their neighbors.”

M: “I seem to recall that their rugby federation is in a bit of disarray?”

K: “Yes, Magda, the ABRU...Sounds similar to our AVRU, doesn’t it?”

M: “It does! I just noticed that!”

K: “Yes, well, anyway...There is a lot of grumbling about mismanagement by the fans and media within Alice Bay, and I think that might have a bit of a demoralizing effect on the team. They aren’t so much in disarray, though, as just struggling to keep the organization in shape for international tests. Bringing it back around, here we are today, and we’re seeing some of the same arguments against Neu Engollon’s AVRU. Before I go any further, let’s introduce our guest remoted in from the Barbarians pre-match warm up in Darmen, former Goats 15’s team captain, Horst Emmett and current coach of the Lisander Barbarians.”

M: “Thanks for taking time out from training to talk with us, Horst.”

H: “Thanks for letting me talk to the fans out there, Magda and Karl. I kind of appreciate the quick break to jump in the studio here in town and cool down. It’s hot here in Darmen today.”

K: “We’re glad you can, Horst. So, first off, how is it going with the Barbarians? How do you think your chances are against the All Greens?”

H: “Great! The team are an amazing group of guys and they’ve been very receptive to this old foreigner and what my vision is for their team. Only a few beer and mercenary jokes. Hehe.”

M: “Ha! Par for the course when you’re talking about perceptions of Neu Engollians abroad, I guess.”

H: “It is. But there’s also a lot of respect for Neu Engollian rugby here, which has made for a smooth transition. I’m not wiping the slate clean here, mind you. The team and coaching staff...We’re blending Neu Engollian and Lisanderian rugby styles and coming up with some unique strategy and tactics, which we’ve already debuted in a couple tests to great effect.”

K: “So we have seen. It’s been impressive. The match against the Imperan side, now the All Greens in just a few hours here.”

H: “Yes, so you asked earlier...Sorry for the delay in that answer. I don’t want to speculate too much. I think the Barbarians will make a good standing of themselves and that’s all we can ask. Darmen is a top world competitor and the All Greens are legendary. They have a good current squad. All that being said, I think our team can pull this off. We have a shot and we’re going to give it our best go.”

M: “Said like a true optimistic coach.”

H: “Haha, but seriously, Magda. I think we have a good shot.”

K: “Horst, can you comment on what we were talking about earlier about the AVRU and Neu Engollian rugby?”

H: “I’ll try. Look...Union is still strong in the Confederacy, although it’s been some time since that World Cup win and there’s been a bit of backsliding. I was part of that complacency. All of us veterans got comfortable up there, and that let in other national sides with determination to get the best of us. Same with sevens, things took a bit of a slide. Some of that was us vets not being in our prime anymore and not as able to bounce back after every punishing match. Some of it lately is due to the fact of the retirement of those same vets, myself included, and the shake up that caused, bringing in a lot of new players and former bench sitters who are now starters. It’s a matter of finding new team cohesion.”

M: “That makes sense, but what also about the controversy we saw on social media about some misconduct of some of your former teammates and also the corporate distractions that were hinted at during last year’s season?”

H: “Yeah, I won’t comment on much of that, Magda. As far as the corporate distractions... Those guys in question had also made commitments to their sponsors. They had events to attend for their sponsors and they had trouble balancing that out with responsibilities to the Goats. We all have that balancing act that is life, right? We all know how that goes? Not as big an issue as people make it out to be, I think. Let’s move on.”

K: “Alright then, so speaking of team cohesion and new players, the Savojarna 7’s were a bit of a disaster, we can say that, I think. Can’t we? It was a bad debut for the new Goats sevens team. Do you think there were those issues at play?”

H: “I see where this is going, but I don’t think it’s constructive, Karl. Yes, of course there’s some rocky times for a new lineup for the Goats. That’s got to be expected. New tournament, new day, new attempts at strategy. Jean Semmes is a good friend, as is Rolf Mertzen, I think they’re steering the team the best they know how and it will pay off soon. We all just need to have patience. You can’t just snap your fingers and expect that a completely new revamped Goats is going to be gangbusters right out of the gate...Ammiright? I’m right. So, I have to get back to the Barbarians as those guys are my priority right now and we have a match to win against the All Greens, then fly back home to Soria.”

K: “Well said, Horst. Thanks again for taking the time and good luck…”

H: ”We don’t need luck, we’ve got skill. But thanks, Karl. Thanks, Magda. Until next time.”

M: “Thank you, Coach Emmett. We have to cut to a sponsor break. When we come back, a play by play of the Alice Bay match and some good scoring highlights. Stay tuned here to NETV 7 Sports Update for continuing coverage of the Watson's Bay 7's…”

Natanians and Nosts wins its first match at the Watson's Bay International!Aftert the first match with questionable referees against Northwest Kalactin,Natanians and Nosts managed to defeat Alice Bay.
The match was rough, the only try scored was from Alice Bay,who didn't convert it,at the 2nd minute of the first period.Natanians and Nosts had already a 6-point advantage. The team managed to lead at half time with 21x5.The team made frequent use of drop-kicking.
The second period was considerably harder, but Lucas Lúcius North gave a show on how to score drop goals, from a certain distance, since Alice Bay showed renewd strength to tackle some metres before the 22-metres line, making actual progression really difficult.

SavojarSports.sj - inside reports from all Savojarna
Savojar Roster for the Savojar International Sevens

Savojarna's rugby culture is relatively young, even though similar games have been played in the nation since the middle ages. Mediaeval football games were very popular in Savojarna and looked probably more like today's rugby, often ending in a vicious brawl. In fact, it was so bad that the authorities had executed a total of 9 men in 1241 for playing a football match carrying swords, which apparently did not remain unused. In later times, Savojar warriors enjoyed a game that is seen by Savojars as the direct predecessor to rugby, and was often also played with blunt weapons as it was seen as a preparation for battle. Many of the traditions from this game carried over to rugby.

Sevens and Union are the two most popular codes in Savojarna, with League almost unheard of. The Savojar league is conducted in Rugby Union, and it consists of 14 teams playing each other twice. Between the seasons, there is a prestigious series of Rugby Sevens tournaments, the so called Triple S (Savojar Sevens Series). The Triple S consists of the eight best teams of the Savojar Rugby Serien ranking, which is conducted over the last three years, referred to as the Triple S Class. They are automatically invited to all four Triple S tournaments, traditionally played in Storevik, Savojagrad, Virkaja and Thorsborg. Each tournament also invites four more teams (not necessarily the same four), and the tournaments are played in groups of 6 followed by a semifinal and a final. After the four tournaments, the six best teams are invited to Sjoedrhavn for the Triple S Final Tournament. There, they play a play-off for the title of Rugby Sevens Champion of Savojarna.

RP PERMISSIONS
Should my opponent RPs first, he/she may do the following:
Choose my scorers: Y
Godmod scoring events: N
RP injuries to my players: Y (if it is serious, TG me and wait for approval)
Godmod injuries to my players: N
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Y
Hand out red cards to my players: Y (no more than one)
Godmod other events: N

A note about godmodding: Everything that could happen under real world physics and rules, but is unlikely is fair game. So, if you want to RP someone kicked a ball across the whole pitch to score, do it, even if that is possibly a godmod (and probably not "possible" under RL physics and RL humans, but not completely unimaginable if you have exceptionally strong players I guess. If you do stuff that is impossible though - magic etc. - that is not okay.
Second note regarding violence: Feel free to stage a fight between Savojars and your people (be it fans or players) if you want. However, Savojarna has an incredibly strong warrior culture and always honoured fighters, so expect to get a bloody nose or two. Also, along with this culture comes a strong sense of honours and ethics in a fight. In Savojarna, it is regarded as extremely bad form and a strong sign of cowardness to hurt a person who is visibly beaten or does not want to fight. This means that you are free to brawl with Savojars, but please do not have any Savojars attacking innocents or engaging in group violence against people laying on the ground. We do not do that. Also, we don't hit people from behind if we are not in a fight already. Getting behind an opponent is a sign of bad skill on their part and a it's fair move to use in a fight. Getting behind an unsuspecting person and sucker punching them from behind is a move for cowards who don't dare to confront their opponent face to face.
MT socialist (mostly) island state - Cultural mixture of Scandinavia, Finland and Russia -Exports iron, steel, silver and wood - Low fantasy in terms of animal species - Sports-loving - 22.8 million inhabitants.

The adjective is Savojar; Savojarnan is not a word!
I am a student of (European) politics, ice hockey fan, left-wing communist bordering on anarchy, and European federalist. Enjoy!

Former World Champions Looking to Find Feet at Home
Image
Hutanjia player evades a tap tackle to score one of his sides 7 tries against the Kiasers

The Kiaser Colonies sevens reputation has fallen a long way since the halcyon days of Rugby 7's World Cup 2. A mediocre at best series and the disastrous effort last time out in Savojarna have left the fans, pundits and players alike questioning if they can mount a challenge for the show piece. The crucial litmus test will be the Watson's Bay International 7's. The Kiaser's are in many ways blessed to have the final outing in their own backyard before the World Cup, but will need to make the most of the opportunity. The World Series is beyond them, but there is a lot on the line all the same; confidence, momentum and rankings for the players. National identity for the rest of the Kiaser Colonies. Rugby is a big part of life in the Kiaser Colonies. The first sport of a sport mad populous commands almost a religious following. So much so that people often mutter that the success of the national side influences property prices, and that the captain of the union side is the second highest leadership position after the prime minister. So it's no exaggeration to say that the recent under-performances are of huge concern to many. The union side were unlucky to miss out on a quarter-final spot at the world cup, the clubs haven't tasted global success in too long, and now the sevens team are floundering.

An opening fixture trouncing at the hands of Hutanjia won't help calm the nerves or silence the critics either. While a loss was always the expected result, many would have been expecting a closer run affair. Two well worked tries for Seta Naisarani were overshadowed by 7 for the opponents. Defensive frailties laid bare and a lack of bite in attack on show in the 36-14 mauling. Much better will be needed in the winner (likely) takes all clash against Copper Cuprum up next in a few hours. Can the players and staff turn it all around in such a short space of time? The clock ticks on the Kiaser Colonies season...
