"I hate this fucking all homers all the time bullshit getting shoved down our throats," exclaimed a particularly incensed Noèle Admiraal following a 4-2 loss to the visiting Wabijustians. The veteran knuckleballer had been called on in a higher-leverage situation than normal for her, as the bullpen was stretched strenuously thin in the previous 6-3 loss to Anthor. Léonard Herbert had been forced out after a four-run first inning that showcased an uncharacteristic lack of control over his sinker. Lia Lévêque had been having a dominant start, striking out eight through five innings, but had run a dangerously high pitch count to accomplish that. Additionally, two Wabijustians had just gotten the jump on her fastball, the only two times she'd given up hard contact, and both times they left the yard--once in the fourth and once in the fifth. With the game tied Admiraal came in and promptly gave up yet another home run to break the tie, before retiring the next six batters on a slew of strikeouts. That's relatively strange for her, even when the knuckler is dancing.

"They were chopping like a bunch of lumberjacks," Admiraal continued, "The first guy gets lucky, bam, not a fucking thing we can do about it." Thera Kolen would go on to give up a fourth solo home run in the eight, on a golf swing that scooped a splitter from below the zone and just barely dumped it over the short right-field wall. Ironically, the Mezi offense also came solely from the solo long ball, with Lies De Jonker and Evdokia Dircks going back-to-back in the second inning, but that would be the only blemishes the Wabijustian pitcher would allow. While the Mets forced through a fair few walks to put the pressure on, jam after jam was successfully navigated and the comeback would never come to fruition. The Mets sit at three points, joint-second with the Alpine Union side they defeated on the first match day--though the later have a game in hand. Not that that all really says anything; the competition is still young.

World Baseball Classic

GAME DAYS 1 TO 3

Game Day 1

Beepee were delighted to have a bye in the first game day.

As a result, Homer Unn and some of the squad visited a local children's hospital and met with seriously ill children, handing out gifts including hats, cuddly toys and foam baseball bats.

I'm an unfortunate incident,  it's believed that some of the players contracted cooties.  This lead to the whole team spending the evening being deloused. 

Unn hoped this setback would not impact on his teams ability to perform well in Game Day 2.

Game Day 2

Beepee went into this match with a little trepidation - very little is known about the Caraquenses.

Keen to put his best foot forward Unn, chose his strongest team. 

At the pre-match press conference Unn made a bold prediction: "it could go either way".

Yesterdays delousing did not appear to hinder the Beepeean squad.  Although we still await results from the anti-doping agency.

The match started in brilliant sunshine... but the clouds of gloom quickly descended on Nuevo Caracas, with Beepee asserting their dominance racing out to any early lead.  Chris Maino scored the opening run for Beepee in the first innings with an RBI single from Casey Thorlibin.

In the third an RBI single by Christian Mitchell saw Beepee double their lead.

In gusty conditions,  it wasn't until the seventh that the Caraquenses scored.  The Caraquenses didnt manage to put up ay resistance and never really worked their way back into the game. As Beepee ran out comfortable winners.

After the game, Unn was in his usual stupor, stating  "Im more chuffed than a badger at the start of mating season"

Onwards to game day three.

Beepee brought all the frustration and hurt from their previous match against Northwest Kalactin to the fore.  The previous 2-1 loss at the Prarie Classic Tournament weighed heavy on the players.

Who can forget the face of Allan Hampton in the Prarie Classic match... falling to his knees in tears after the match.

Before the match, Unn pointed out the strength and depth of the NK team.

"We've played them before and we know how good they are,  for example second baseman Jake Bannon, Ben Jenson (MR) and Adam Felix (C) will need to be carefully watched. I expect them to win at a canter, however home advantage gives us an advantage."

The weather was glorious in Beepee and The Sub was near full to capacity with 11,972 tickets sold. The match started tentatively with the first innings ending quickly.

However in the second the match rocketed into life.   Tua Keeti got a double which allowed Casey Thorlibin and Bruce Labare to score. A double by Taylor Keith allowed Keeti to round the bases and slide home to finish the second 3 to 0.

The third innings saw more of the same with a superb batting display by Beepee seeing them open a 6 to 0 by the end of the third.

At that point the Kalactins looked almost defeated. Superb pitching by  Taylor Keith kept the Kalactins cursing at every pitch.

 At the end if the  Match Homer Unn stated "We always give 110%, it's that extra 10% that people remember.

At the end of day 3, Beepee is surprisingly unbeaten.  However matches against Super-Llamaland and Gloriax to follow... Beepee is expected to drop down the table quickly.

 For match day 4 starting pitcher will be Dan McManus who hasn't played since contracting Auphelian Koala Chlamydia in the Prarie Classic.

For match day 5 Leslie Wheeler will be starting pitcher.

The World Baseball Classic 43rd edition has officially started, the Confederates started off the season in fine form.

The number 7th ranked team easily defeated Nevis And Kitts with a score of 5-2 on their home turf at Grand Royal Stadium to a small crowd of 10,000 fans from both teams including members of the royal family in the royal box.

Scorers of the day were; Jacob Texas (2) Glen Melbourne (1) Lukas Towers (1) and Jimmy Geelong (1)

Game 2 found the Confederates going up against Kita-Hinode , a nation they see as one of their biggest competition in their pool. There first game against the nation was a fierce battle that came down to the wire in the 9th inning when The Confederate's won by a single run, thanks to the pitching success of Mandeep Singh and David Zealish.

The game ended on a 9-8 finish, that coach Jacob Prosper advised will need to be looked at more closely. West Phoenicia has hopes and dreams to make a run for the finals. We want flawless matches until at least the round of 16 without giving our competition to much room to jump ahead and knock us out.

Game 3 was an utter blow on home turf for the Confederate's when they came up against Hicana losing 7-2. The Hicana pitchers and fielders worked a tight match stopping the West Phoenicians from making any decent runs or reaching bases. While they smacked the West Phoenician pitchers balls as if the pitchers were tossing watermelons. They lose on home soil was also bitter when they dropped to the number 2 spot allowing unknown team the Greater Nordic the ability to climb to the number one spot.

Shouts were heard from the changing rooms with coaching staff blasting the team for a poor performance on home soil.

Journal of George Geer, May 23:

We played our first game today, against Melbergia, and the results were rather embarrassing. There was a misunderstanding about the rules, and Toffey nearly got himself ejected from the game when he beaned a Melbergian gentleman who was on his way to first base after hitting a fly ball. We were all under the impression that this was an acceptable means of tagging a runner out on the base paths, but the umpire told us otherwise and explained that the tournament is being played according to "modern" rules and not 19th century ones. And here I thought the 19th century was modern!

The Melbergians and the World Baseball Classic officials say it is the 21st century and not the 19th. I am greatly confused by this, but thankfully the umpire recognized the incident with Toffey as an honest misunderstanding and allowed him to stay in the game. Unfortunately, the umpire's patience did not prevent us from losing by 10 runs. It seems we have a lot to learn about "modern" baseball. I will have to study the rules tomorrow before we travel to the Ireland Isles.

In spite of today's mishaps and the disappointing outcome of the game, it was a lovely day and I think all of us enjoyed it.


May 25:

It is so incredible, I fear anyone who reads this may think I've taken leave of my senses! We traveled to Ireland today -- ARRIVING THE NEXT MORNING AFTER WE DEPARTED VIRGINIA! We booked passage aboard a machine the likes of which I have never seen before and can scarely even begin to describe. It was roughly cylindrical in shape with large wings attached to the sides and engines in round casings attached to each wing, all made of sleek gleaming metal. I do not know what kind of metal they used. The inside held several finely upholstered seats, which we sat in as the machine transported us to the Ireland Isles. The Irish call it an "airplane." I regret to say our own Monitor, which I had always thought a technological marvel, is sadly primitive in comparison.

During our stay in the Isles, we saw countless other equally incredible technological wonders. I could fill a book describing them all, but there is not enough time and I do not have enough paper to write it all down tonight. I was understandably skeptical when I was first told that our opponents were not from the 19th century, but now all doubt has been erased from my mind. We lost our game 3 to 7, but that hardly seems important after such a remarkable experience.

| Athletics Drop Two of First Three as WBC Kicks Off! |

| Clearly this isn't how Bauscland would've wanted to start off the new season, letting Abanhfleft score a total of 8 runs in 6 out of 9 innings in front of a rather disappointed home crowd of 23,500. Starting pitcher Tom Brewer did fairly well though, pitching three innings while giving up 2 runs on 4 hits before leaving the game after a come-backer struck him on the hand in the third inning. No word yet concerning how long he will be out for. Things remained fairly close through the 5th though, with the Athletics only trailing by one run going into the 6th. However, with reliever Tom Hurd giving up 4 runs in the 6th and 7th innings, it was clear that this one was out of reach for an Athletics team whose bats still seemed to have needed a little more time to shake off the off-season rust. The Revolution's right handed starter Justin Yardley picked up the win today, while Tom Brewer took insult to injury and was given the loss. |

| Well, it seems that the bats woke up in this one as the Athletics really brought the hurt down on the Cosumar Dragons, posting up 12 runs on 14 hits. In a particularly brutal 2nd inning, the Athletics scored 9 runs, with 7 of those coming off from home runs. The first was a 2 run shot from Cather Sammy White, then came a solo shot from the next batter Dick Gernert. Then, after giving up 2 more runs and loading the bases, Third Baseman Grady Hatton finished up the inning's scoring with a grand slam in to the right field bleachers. From there, the masterful pitching of right hander Ike Delock kept the Dragons to just 1 run before being relieved in the 7th by Joe Trimble, who finished out the game and only gave up two walks and a hit. Delock gets the win, his first of the season, while Cosumar's Ezra McElgland was handed a rather devastating loss. Following the disappointing start in the last game, it was good to see the Athletics make up for it this time around. Hopefully, they would be able to carry the energy displayed in this game over into the last one of the set. |

| Having returned home to play Filindostan, the Athletics got off to a good start with 1 run in the first. Starter Willard Nixon performed well until the 5th, giving up 3 runs before being relieved. From there, it was apparent that the offensive capabilities of the Athletics were not with it, only being able to push across one more before ultimately losing 6 to 2. From these first three games, it seems that that Bauscland has not been able to pull themselves together at home on both offense and defense, giving up 14 runs at home while only scoring 5 themselves. This is sharply contrasted with their first road performance, where 12 runs were scored back and only 1 was given up. Ultimately, with these only being the first 3 games of the season, it's hard to tell where things will end up. But as the Athletics sit in 4th place, they'll need to either pull themselves together on one side of the ball before they can expect to keep up with the rest of their division. |

Matchday 1: Filatov, Litmanen lead the Grizzlies to victory

Young star Nathan Filatov led the Grizzlies to a easy victory over their first opponent in this series. Sandberg fell 5-2 to a well-performing Krossan team. Filatov allowed 6 hits, 2 ER, and 1 walk over 7.1 innings whilst striking out 8. When using his showcase 2-Seam he struck out 6 of the 7 batters he used it three or more times in. Filatov is coming off a knee injury suffered during the offseason in which he was hurt for two weeks. During that season he went 21-8 with a 2.98 ERA. Filatov is a Rookie of the Year and two time all-star. He was promoted to 1st in the rotation over the veteran lefthander Hannes Lehkosuo who was hospitalized following a food poisoning incident. Filatov was backed up by a strong offensive performance by the Grizzlies lineup and great defensive work by second baseman Eric Ylimaki, a two time gold glover, 1 time all-star, and ROTY after 2 seasons. Ylimaki made two phenomenal catches, laying out for a diving catch and making a stop on a line drive to turn a double play in a critical situation that saved a scoring run. Samsa Ruoho also made the Sandberg crowd silent after a cannon throw to home plate to nail a runner. Pekka Salo's shot was measured at 360 feet. It landed in left field.

I've got some bats behind me to help me out, and me and the rest of the guys in the rotation and the bullpen are going to give more than our arm to this team." Star pitcher Nathan Filatov proclaimed during the post game broadcast. After that the team would return to the clubhouse and gear up for a return to Krossa.

Game 2 Coverage

The stands were filled at the Kovvika Center. The roof was open on this beautiful day in one of the worlds greatest ballparks. Krossa was welcomed by a packed and dedicated crowd for a thriller against the Deseret and Zion national team. Krossa started off the game with a bang,with the he veteran lefty Hannes Lehkosuo striking out the side. To start Krossa's offense was a Joonas Mukka triple followed by a RBI single by Pekka Salo. The inning ended after a groundout into a double play and then a popout by Samsa Ruoho. Lehkosuo worked in the 2nd with two strikeouts and a groundout by the Desert and Zion team. When Krossa was back to bat Mattila sent a solo shot deep into RF. It was measured at 418 feet. Joonas Pusilla, the catcher in this game, singled. Ylimaki struck out and Oramo grounded into a double play. When Lehkosuo was back on the mound he used his vulcan change to strike out two more batters. He allowed a hit but the next batter grounded out. The bottom of the third started with Lehkosuo getting struckout. Mukka followed with a strike out aswell. Then, Pekka Salo homered into deep center field, with the ball falling 438 feet from home plate. Harkimo grounded out. The top of the fourth started with a single by Desert and Zion's team. Lehkosuo threw a lower slider and the hitter grounded into a double play. Lehkosuo struck out the next batter. The bottom of the 4th started with a Ruoho single. Matilla hit a double and Ruoho was held at third. Pusilla popped up into middle center. The Zion center fielder made a spectacular throw to nail Ruoho at the plate on a tag up. Eric Ylimaki hit a double into left field and Matilla came home. Oramo popped out.

The top of the 5th started with a strike out, then a double, then a ground out, and then a popout. Lekhosuo struck out, Mukka grounded out, and Salo struck out. When Lekhosuo came back up in the 6th he allowed a double, and then a home run. He struck out the next batter and allowed a single. After a mound visit he was left in and struck out the next batter. The 3rd batter grounded out. Benn Harkimo doubled to lead off the inning. Samsa Ruoho strikes out. Matilla strikes out. Pusilla grounds into a base hit. Ylimaki singles into shallow right and Harkimo comes home. Oramo is pinch hit for. Magmund Fillip grounds out. Martti Korpella pitches two fine innings and Haanpaa strikes out two to get another save.

Vicchelia, 17th January, 1992, 1241 LOCAL HOURS

Adrien was alone in his deceased grandfather's fishing boat, he was placing the nets in spots where he thought he'd find fish the next day. Yes, he was fishing in a very late hour, however, since survival was at hand, he couldn't risk waiting the whole day just to place the nets and then wait for the entirety of the next day to maybe find some food. He placed the nets around 150 meters off the shore, so it'd be easy for him to find the nets the very next day. He quickly returned to the port, disembarked from the ship and managed to dock it on his own, even if it took him a while. By this time, the grey sky started to recede and was slowly getting succeeded by sea-blue sky, the sun rays were slowly itching out from the clouds to hit the area, but no significant lighting came out.

Poma, 17th January, 1992, 1250 LOCAL HOURS

Everything was clear for rescue helicopters to help damaged coastal towns and villages, the man responsible for gathering up the aid was Flaviano Capitani, a Juven-Osci businessman with deep love for Osci coastal villages. He had managed to gather up around 8 helicopters and around 70 personnel to help. 1 helicopter, a small one, was to be sent to Vicchelia, there would be 3 people going there to aid no other but the remaining survivor and maybe request assistance in picking up the dead bodies and transporting them into nearby cemetaries. The 3 people were called Rufino Mondo, captain of the helicopter, the one in charge of it, Gabriele Nascimbene and Edgardo Faraldo, both volunteers ready to assist.

"Listen up, lads! This is a tough mission, we are going on a village called Vicchelia, this village is in the southwestern part of the coast, close to neighbours Dubbo Krish. This shall be an hour long journey to get there. According to reports, we are most likely only picking up dead bodies tonight, however, should we find a survivor, we should help them immediately by bringing them bandages, food as well as water and definetely carry them out of this wreckage of a village. Do you understand me?"

"AYE AYE, CAPTAIN!" shouted the young volunteers, then they all embarked on the helicopter for one last check of the materials. Gabriele was in charge of the list so he was doing most of the work.

"4 first aid cases, check. Food supplies, check. Water supplies, check. Pharmaceutical supplies, also check. Captain, I think we are ready to leave and help some people."

"Alright, gentlemen, fasten your seatbelts, close to doors and get ready to help people."

And just like that, the helicopter ha disappeared in the dissipating clouds. The young men were prepared for the worst, but they definetely did not know what was ahead.

Tales From the Front, Part One

Vissarion Zhivkov had always been a dreamer. And when he dreamt of things, he dreamt big, great and grand things. Since he was a child, he had dreamed of becoming the greatest leader that the land and people of ESTORVIPA had ever known and will ever know. When he was conscripted into the ESTORVIPAN People's Army at 18 years old, Vissarion Zhivkov dreamed that he would eventually rise to the rank of general or even field marshal and lead ESTORVIPA to glory on the field of battle. And when he had finally achieved his dream of becoming a colonel general in the ESTORVIPAN People's Army, he gathered a group of his closest and most loyal officers and advisers and removed the previous ruling body of ESTORVIPA through a coup d'etat that was bloodless in that the ruling body unilaterally surrendered to Zhivkov and his forces as soon as he had declared his intentions to take over ESTORVIPA and was also bloody in that the majority of the rest of the people of ESTORVIPA, especially the northern and southern parts of the country didn't take too kindly to his takeover. The consequences of this was that the northern part of the country split away to form the ESTORVIPAN COMMUNE, and the southern part, which was the homeland of the PIVAN people, was left ravaged by Zhivkov's forces as a lesson to the PIVANS to stop fighting the inevitable and accept Zhivkov's rule over all of ESTORVIPA.

Once Zhivkov had achieved his dream of becoming the leader of ESTORVIPA, he sought to improve his country's lot with the rest of the multiverse. One of the first steps that he took to do that was to negotiate a new treaty with ESTORVIPA's only ally, Pridnestrovia, that would significantly improve ESTORVIPA's share of the pie between the two countries and was also the first step to distancing themselves from the Pridnestrovian sphere of influence, which was itself beginning to drift closer to non-Communist countries such as Abanhfleft, Oontaz, and Copper Cuprum. In Zhivkov's mind, the first step to making ESTORVIPA a true international superpower was to get out of Pridnestrovia's shadow and then overshadow Pridnestrovia itself. The first part of that was easy: Zhivkov had just done it by negotiating that new treaty with Pridnestrovia. It was the second part of his dream that turned out to be very much more difficult to achieve than all of his other dreams at that point. As it turns out, to become a superpower, a country doesn't just snap its fingers and declare itself to be such; it has to work to attain the power and reputation needed to become a superpower, and all of Zhivkov's techniques in acquiring that power within ESTORVIPA simply wouldn't work on the rest of the world.

And then there was that added complication of a revolution or civil war (Zhivkov could never really tell which was which) happening because those goddamned northerners had managed to get even more international recognition than Zhivkov could ever hope for or imagine just by participating in a football competition. The northerners didn't even win that competition, if Zhivkov could remember correctly, but that had still made the northerners more respected than ESTORVIPA itself. Imagine if the damned northerners had actually won the whole thing! They would have become completely insufferable. Not only that, but when ESTORVIPA fell apart at the seams due to all these factions vying for control of their own little control of the country, Pridnestrovia decided that it was actually their oathsworn duty to save ESTORVIPA from the mess of its own making and eliminate all of the other rebel factions to ensure that only the rightful government of ESTORVIPA (which at that point was most definitely not Vissarion Zhivkov, at least in Pridnestrovian eyes). Zhivkov, knowing that his time as Pridnestrovia's friend was up, then decided to ally with his old enemy, the ESTORVIPAN COMMUNE, and their new protectors in the IMPERIUM. As Pridnestrovia and the IMPERIUM were themselves rivals on the international and geopolitical stage, at least with regards to the region of Rushmore, Pridnestrovia henceforth disowned Zhivkov and his government and declared them as yet another faction to be eliminated to restore true balance in the land of ESTORVIPA.

Fortunately for Zhivkov, Pridnestrovia was unable to accomplish its goals of eradicating the major rebel factions in ESTORVIPA (which included both the northern ESTORVIPAN COMMUNE and Vissarion Zhivkov's newly established ESTORVIPAN OLIGARCHY) and so they were thrown back to their Democratic People's Republic while the surviving factions worked to consolidate their claims in ESTORVIPA. Vissarion Zhivkov dropped all pretenses to communism and established a new government based on an oligarchy built almost entirely around Zhivkov and his loyal friends, and he declared himself Autocrat Zhiv I, with his capital in the historical capital of ESTORVIPA, RAKE City. However, infighting soon broke out between the various factions in ESTORVIPA over who should receive the most support from the IMPERIUM, and when the dust had settled, that faction would turn out to be the ESTORVIPAN COMMUNE. The other factions would still get support from the IMPERIUM in the descending order of their importance to the IMPERIUM's plans in ESTORVIPA, with the Republic of ESTORPIVA at the very bottom of the pecking order. It was for this very reason that the Republic sued for peace with Pridnestrovia and its puppet Federation of ESTORVIPA AND ESTORPIVA, thus giving the goddamned Communists a way back into ESTORVIPA.

And now, now it has all come to this. The oligarchs whom Autocrat Zhiv I thought were his most loyal friends were actually the first ones to call for peace with the Pridnestrovian invaders and their puppet Federation, and now Vissarion Zhivkov had been forced to flee his own capital and hide up in the mountains along with those of his soldiers who still remain steadfast and loyal to his name, as well as a number of special forces operators from the IMPERIUM whose sole purpose was to ensure the survival of Zhivkov. It was these special forces soldiers who learned of the Pridnestrovians' coming attack against Zhivkov's mountain hideout, and it was also they who evacuated Zhivkov away from the mountains and back to RAKE City, where they were sure that the Pridnestrovians would never look for him as there was surely no way that one of Pridnestrovia's bitter enemies would hide right underneath their noses.

Vissarion Zhivkov woke up to the sound of a softly beeping alarm clock. He turned around in his bed and groggily shut off the alarm with a loosely swung fist. He didn't want to wake up. He didn't want to do anything except lay down in his bed in this godforsaken apartment and wait for the next day to come. Here was Zhiv I, the first and great Autocrat of the ESTORVIPAN OLIGARCHY, and he was hiding in one of the very apartments that were reserved for the ordinary people of ESTORVIPA.

Zhivkov was a very far cry from the man who had been crowned Autocrat of the ESTORVIPAN OLIGARCHY. His beard had grown long and lush, and his eyes were ringed red thanks to nights of sleeplessness spent evading Pridnestrovian and Federation Defense Forces patrols specifically sent out to capture and/or kill him. Lines had also begun to appear on Zhivkov's face and his hair was also going gray, indicating the high levels of stress that he had been facing in recent times. This was no way for the Autocrat of the ESTORVIPANS to live, and yet here he was, scurrying like a rat from safehouse to safehouse just to keep himself out of the hands of the Pridnestrovians, who would present him as their biggest trophy in this war yet whether he was captured alive or killed.

Zhivkov finally got up and walked to his bathroom, where he splashed water over his face to wake himself up even further, and then he cupped the tap water from the faucet and used that water to gargle the aftermath of the night from his mouth. Zhivkov then walked down to the apartment's kitchen, nodding his head to the two IMPERIUM soldiers tasked with protecting him. There, he walked over to the refrigerator to retrieve a cupcake, which he took with him to the living room. Zhivkov stuck a candle on top of the cupcake as he sat down on the moldy and moth-eaten sofa, and he began to softly hum a tune to himself. "Happy birthday to me," he sang to himself. "Happy birthday to me; happy birthday, dear Zhiv, happy birthday to me." Zhivkov then took out the candle and devoured the cupcake in two bites.

As Zhivkov was wiping off the crumbs from his hands and beard, a cellphone rang. One of the IMPERIUM bodyguards picked up the phone, and he asked a series of questions to the person at the other end. When the caller appeared to have answered these questions to the bodyguard's satisfaction, the IMPERIUM soldier handed the phone to Zhivkov. "It's the journalist from GINN," the soldier said, referring to the Greater Imperial News Network, the premier news source for the IMPERIUM and all of its territories and associated states. "Are you sure that you can handle this interview, sir?" the soldier asked.

"Yes, I'm sure that I can handle this, Bjorn," Zhivkov said, and he dismissed the soldier with a wave of his hand. He then lifted up the phone so that his face could be seen on the screen, and a face in a smaller box at the corner of the screen appeared, and the man said, "Thank you so much for indulging us in this interview at such an early hour, Autocrat Zhiv."

"My pleasure," Zhivkov replied simply.

"Now, may I ask you to please introduce yourself to our viewers so that they know why exactly we have arranged this interview with you."

"Hello, people of the IMPERIUM," Zhivkov called out. "I am the Autocrat Zhiv I of the ESTORVIPAN OLIGARCHY, and I am here to tell you of the story of how I became a victim of the persecution of the pefidious Pridnestrovians and their pompous puppets, the Federation of ESTORVIPA AND ESTORPIVA."

In an unmarked van three blocks away from Zhivkov's apartment, a man dressed in black nodded his head to another man wearing all black. "It's confirmed, sir," he said. "AUTOCRAT is indeed going to have his video interview with the Imperials today."

"That's it, no time to waste," the other man in black said. "If we are going to kill Zhivkov once and for all, now is the time to strike."

"Yes, Comrade Major."

Adventure Time

So here it is. I have finally decided to begin this blog. It's been a long time coming, and I know I've discussed with a number of you (that I know personally), but the commitment and time never comes when you want it to. However, I have now made the blog, and here I am writing my first post.

6 months ago, when I was embarking on a short trip up Mount Helensted (one of the smaller mountains in central Ethane, standing at about 800 metres), I decided that it would be worthwhile for me to write a blog. It's taken a while to get from that concept of writing a blog to actually getting around to do it, but I have reached that point when I'm ready to start.

Just a heads up, I am writing this blog for myself. I know that this blog will probably be read by a load of people once it gets out there (or it may not), but the primary reason for me creating this blog is to engage myself in writing, which I enjoy, and create a space where I can ramble on about whatever. You may find my writing interesting, enjoyable, and informative, or you may completely hate my style of writing. I understand. My writing won't be to everyone's tastes. But even if someone enjoys my blog and finds it useful, I will be happy.

That brings me on, I guess, to what this blog will actually be about. And in all reality, I'm not completely sure what the topic of this blog will be yet. I've called it Adventure Time because I know that I want to write about adventure: in my life and others. I'll write about adventures in my personal and professional life, but also with a major focus on travel writing because I love and am passionate about travelling and enabling other people to travel. But this blog may get more personal on occasion. I'm just not sure.

One thing I hope is that the people who are reading this will be here with me for the adventure. This blog is about adventure but is also an adventure for me, and I want you to join with me in this adventure. This is our adventure.

This is a very informal blog post. I just wanted to give a background to what this blog is, and why I've created it. Not all blog posts will necessarily be this informal, but that does not negate the fact that some might be. I guess consider this an experiment. I will definitely write up a proper welcome message/introduction to my blog for people visiting later on, but this will suffice for now.

That leaves me one thing to say before we embark on this adventure together. Welcome.

Unchanged Team Starts Campaign Poorly

Ethane lose first 2 games with team unchanged from last WBC.

Of WBC starts, for a top seed Ethane's performance has been a little disappointing. The Red Kites, coming into this WBC hoping to redeem themselves after being knocked out by Banija - a team ranked significantly lower than Ethane - in the round of 18 last season by a Banijan comeback in the bottom of the final inning. A low point for manager Angus Lockie from Drawkland after a series of declining performances ever since Ethane's win of the WBC, his job was on the line. Yet he was given another chance this WBC, with a vision of change and redeeming his reputation in the national side.

That's why his team selection seemed rather odd after his long speech to the EBA about change. After being knocked out last WBC, he spent a good 45 minutes preaching to the national aboard about the change he would deliver if they let him keep the job; that he would deliver a good result at the next World Baseball Classic. Yet he has kept the exact same team lineup as last edition.

There are only really 2 explanations for this that I can think of. He's either lost his spark and isn't prepared or can't identify the really good players from the good players anymore, or he genuinely believes he can deliver change without any change at all in the team, which is a little odd but I guess the results will speak for themselves at the end of the day.

The first 2 results will undoubtedly make him, and the EBA, feel a little bit uncomfortable though, and rightly so. The EBA have gone out on a limb to let Lockie keep his job for this WBC, as they genuinely believed he was the best man to deliver change despite being the incumbent manager, considering his track record within the Ethanian team. If Lockie and Ethane massively underperform again this WBC, which the first 2 results suggest there is a chance of that happening, then not only will Lockie be out of his job, but so will many of the people on the EBA board because they made the decision to keep Lockie as manager despite his recent poor performances.

Lockie will feel the most uncomfortable though as he has been through a rather extended rough period with little to show for his work on the field or in the trophy cabinet. After Ethane won the WBC, the nation has been hungry for another trophy, but the EBA more so as they use the momentum of a WBC win to boost the popularity of baseball within the nation. No wins means less momentum means baseball is less popular means less money for baseball means less success internationally. It's a cycle that's doomed to repeat itself unless someone can take the Red Kites out of the rut they have been in recently.

But that begs the question, how has Ethane performed over the first 2 matches of this WBC? Why is Lockie treading a fine line already, only 2 games into the WBC?

After 2 matches, the Red Kites sit last in the group with no wins. For a top seed team, that's a disappointing performance. While it is only 2 games, every win or loss counts and is crucial in the group standings in what is expected to be a fairly tight group. Ethane sits at the bottom of the group now, with no wins, no points, and are 6 points behind the top 2. Not a great start by any account.

Their position probably wouldn't matter quite so much if the matches were tight; it could have been put down to a poor performance on the day, one which could easily be turned around in future matches. But the results weren't close. Not really.

The first game against Alpine Union was closer than the second. 2 home runs to 1 home run in the first inning, with the numbers switched for the second inning created a fairly even game for most of it. But the Red Kites' notorious weakness in the back-end of a match revealed itself once again as it did in that fatal loss in the round of 18 to Banija in the World Baseball Classic 42, conceding a home run in both the 7th and 8th inning.

The greater disappointment and one that leaves Lockie walking on a tightrope over the Niagra Falls is the second result, the substantial loss against Anthor. As usual, the Red Kites started off strong with a resounding 3 home runs in the 1st inning with almost all the bases loaded. However, Anthor proved to be a formidable opponent, scoring 4 runs in the 3rd inning and 5 runs in the 5th inning to leave the Red Kites with an impossible lead to breach.

These 2 results aren't enough to completely dispose of Lockie, although some would like to considering what he said about change in contrast to his team selection and first 2 results. They do leave him dangling over hot water on the world's thinnest tightrope though, and without an improvement from the first 2 matches of this campaign Lockie will be out of a job quicker than a pitcher can pitch a ball at a batter.

Two weeks before the start of the tournament

Prince Eiji woke up, almost leaping from his well-furnished bed in the Celestial Castle. He had been experiencing awful dreams ever since the day his mother was knocked out by a scrappy challenger. A distant Asakawa with ruffian looks, several bandages and a very mean right hook. That was the current Empress, Satomi the Second. Granted, the woman was savvy beyond his expectations, granting his mother the Mayorship of Tentai while keeping some of her children into the castle as well, serving as Ministers.

Not all of those that she kept were incapable, Prince Eiji being a clear lover of all things Technology. He had channelled a lot of his uncle, one Kyo Asakawa, and his plans regarding technology, while keeping things to a more logical level, instead of Kyo's infamous insane ideas who were usually accompanied with a lot of booze and nights on the city's brothels. Very much like Tentai had been cleaning up, Eiji had the desire to clean up his uncle's thoughts and make sure that the nation improved as well. He was there when his mother signed up the plan that allowed Cyborg production to a small percentage of the Empire's population and had been somewhat of a force towards raising that limit to the current day's 10%.

And now, he had a stunt in mind, the idea of having cyborgs from all across the empire represent the nation in an International Tournament. He already had managed to strike an agreement with the Baseball authorities in Hinode, seeing as they were still working towards implementing a functional league after the success of one Misei City Yorozuya, out of the empire's realm, and preferred to instead gather all intel over the local players instead of sending a team to the tournament.

The Gears would be the sole android team of the tournament, as far as he could tell. There was just one problem.

...He wasn't very good at baseball and most Androids never played it.

"Eh, it's just hitting balls far, how bad could that go?" He thought to himself, already preparing for Karma to pay him back.

"Quarry versus Admirals. Standings, at the end of next season. Whoever's higher at the end of the season, wins, obviously. The winner may play their game as usual. But the loser switches to the other team's style. I'm announcing it now, the Admirals will hire data scientists and will work on a methodology to figure out this game. The Quarry remain traditional, going by gut feeling."

Manager Ernst Roy gives his views on the first three games." We were lucky to have a bye in the first game. That gave us a chance to rest and to see what the other teams in the group are like. We saw that Kito-Hinode can hit, which is not a suprise given that their team is made up of robots. I dont know how that is allowed in the game but I dont make the rules. We had to travel to Nevis and Kitts for game 2 but our team can go on the road and play at any stadium without any problem. We had a close game but we pulled it out in the end. When Mats hit that 2 run homer in the second, I knew that our team could hang on to the lead. Tuva gave me a good 6 inning performance that game, only giving up one run in the second. Our bullpen held on from there. Game three was at home, which really helped. Our fans made it loud in King Lauritz II stadium and we gave them a good game to watch. When Ester hit that grand slam in the 7th the stadium just went crazy. Im glad to be at the top of the group but I know that we still have a long way to go. This team has exceeded our expectations being our first time in the WBC. I hope that we can keep this run going."

Dinesh Mohn debated whether to let the players bring their families into the clubhouse. During WBC 42, he had been forced to keep them out because of the commotion caused by Huihui Lin's terrible cooking. Some people thought she was purposely trying to poison them; others thought she was just a bad cook. Mohn wasn't sure, but either way, it had been a problem. This year, Huihui Lin's husband, Tao Xi, had not made it onto the roster for the national team -- so maybe it wouldn't be a problem to let the players' wives and children into the clubhouse.

It was traditional for families to travel together in the Sherpa Empire. Businessmen often brought their wives and children on business trips, and women would cook for the family even on the road. Some hotels included meals in the price of the room, but if they didn't do that, they would have somewhere to cook -- either a kitchenette in each room or a shared kitchen that was open to guests. Professional athletes brought their families with them on road trips as much as they could without disrupting their children's education, and the locker rooms at sports stadiums sometimes had kitchens and dining areas specifically designed so that the players' families could have a home-cooked meal ready to eat after the game. Not every stadium in the Empire was designed this way. Chokpori, for example, had nothing of the sort.

Mohn thought the tradition was impractical. It made the clubhouse too chaotic, particularly in international competition where the foreign stadiums were not designed for it. On the other hand, it was traditional, and some of the players liked it.

Times were changing, though. There were more and more women who had careers of their own and were too busy to follow their husbands everywhere they went. The schools were becoming less tolerant of children missing school because of their parents' traveling. Mohn wasn't the only one who thought it was stupid and backward for people to bring their families everywhere they went. After thinking it over for a while, he decided the traditionalists would have to get with the times. It was easier to just keep his policies from the year before, rather than risk things getting out of hand, and then have to change the policy part way through the Classic and explain why he was doing it.

The flight to Oscioru was long and boring, and Luochong Zhuang made it worse by talking about the ecological importance of bees for three hours straight. Several people were pointedly ignoring him, but he didn't take the hint until Tashi Siedler told him bluntly, "Dude, nobody cares!"

"That's not true," said Zhuang. "Hey, Lakpa, you're still listening, right?"

Lakpa Fang looked up startled. "What?" he said.

"Tsheri, am I being boring?"

"I have no idea," said Tsheri Pham. "I stopped listening two hours ago."

"Don't you guys ever like to talk about anything besides baseball and money and girls?" Zhuang asked.

"Sure, Lakpa likes to talk about men," said Tashi.

Lakpa smacked him across the top of his head, not hard enough to cause any injury, but enough to let Tashi know he was annoyed. "I'm not gay!"

Tashi thought about disputing this, but decided against it when he realized Lakpa's wife was in earshot.

The Saint Gregory Chrysostom Center was a pretty ballpark, with ivy growing along the outfield wall. Tsheri Pham didn't find anything else about Oscioru very appealing, but he liked the ballpark. While he was warming up before the game, Luochong Zhuang was educating the other pitchers about the social habits of orcas. He talked about how they formed pods, how different pods ate different food and used different hunting techniques. Someone somewhere probably would have found it fascinating, but that someone was not a pitcher on the Sherpa national baseball team. The other men sitting near Zhuang looked bored.

Pham was not feeling his best when he took the mound. He was jetlagged, and he had gotten a little distracted with the unfamiliar setting and Zhuang's babbling. There was a lot of pressure too, being top of the rotation on the national team -- but he wouldn't have made it to that level in the first place if he couldn't pitch competently under pressure. He tried to put all the distractions out of his mind and just focus on the game.

He got through 2 innings without giving up any runs, though he did give up a walk to Arnaldo Granger after a long at bat with several foul balls and a couple of curveballs that didn't curve quite the way Pham intended.

The 3rd inning started out looking a lot like the first two -- it wasn't perfect, but Pham thought he could get through it. Then Albrici hit a long double that allowed a runner to score from first, and D'onofrio hit a sac fly that brought Albrici in to score. Mohn came out to the mound to talk to Pham and make sure he didn't get too rattled, and Croce hit a pop fly Usha Chawa caught to end the inning.

The 4th inning was similar, and Mohn asked Pham if he still wanted to stay in the game, given that he was obviously having a bad day, but Pham said he would stay in. He knew he needed to get it together if he didn't want to get pulled, and he did manage to settle down for another 2 innings without giving up any more runs.

The bullpen was fine. The real problem was that the Sherpa offense snoozed through most of the game -- not literally, of course, but they were about as effective as if they had slept through it. Their only run was a solo homer by Keo Norbu.

The flight home to Lukla-Namche was long and boring, and Luochong Zhuang made it worse by talking about the conservation of arctic wildlife, particularly polar bears, for three hours straight. Nobody was too badly jetlagged, though, because they had not been in Oscioru long enough to get fully adjusted to Osci time.

Mingma Al Ali had a decent start, as usual. He threw hard and was reliably good, though not as tricky as some other pitchers. Throwing hard in Syangboche wasn't always a good idea because anyone who made solid contact was likely hit the ball out of the park. A few Apikaian batters hit very long foul balls out by the poles, and one of them hit a homer in the 2nd inning. Another run scored from a combination of a walk and some smaller base hits. But it turned out not to be a problem because the Sherpa offense woke up. It wasn't the usual 15 to 7 sort of game like the fans in Lukla-Namche were used to, a string of hits in the 5th inning gave the Sherpas a 3 run lead that they managed to hold onto.

Liventia just miss combined no-no on return to international play
PORT CARTFORT— Four outs.

Liventia's pitching staff were four outs away from a most remarkable return to hosting international baseball in the country when Basil Tretyakov ended the improbable dream.

Off the back of an eight-hit 3–2 opening day road victory against Valliesta, expectations were high as Port Cartfort Park welcomed the Red-and-Gold for the first time.

It is possibly the ground with the most ridiculous dimensions in the Liventian major league, but with two ground-ball pitchers on the mound in Patrick Rider (W, 1–0) and Dennis Yuriev (L, 0–1), it was the defences which dominated in the game between Liventia and Pripet Socialist Republic.

Yes, Liventia strung together nine hits in their eight innings. But they only plated one run – shortstop Wayne Poll scoring in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Devin James.

The story was in the top half of the innings. Rider went six full, throwing 98 pitches, allowing two walks and striking out eight.

Toby Whiteley for an inning and Callum Shone both did their jobs, but Shone reported stiffness in his throwing arm after getting the first two outs of the eighth.

Enter Gary Hobby, the unfortunate pitcher to allow Pripet's one and only hit of the game. He then walked the next man, forcing manager Adam Darwin's hand.

Aiden Horne was called upon immediately to close out the last four batters.

Darwin was circumspect after the game, noting Liventia had triumphed in the end and a one-hitter was still "quite an amazing achievement."

The boss has bigger concerns, with both Shone and third starter Francis Delamere now injury worries.

Delamere lasted just eight outs in the third game away at Juvencus before being forced off with a suspected fractured finger fielding a line drive.

But the Red-and-Gold bats came big, as Liventia went deep six times in putting 11 runs on the board off 13 hits.

Hobby would again be the unfortunate pitcher as he blew an 8–6 lead in the eighth, allowing three walks and one hit in 0.2 innings of work.

During the entirety of World Baseball Classic 42, playoffs included, Newmanistan never had an inning of more then four runs. It was a talking point throughout the Empire, and seen as a big reason why the team had too quick of a playoff exit. It took two innings for the Rockets to erase that fact and see to it that it would never happen again.

The start of the game against Hampton Island was interesting. On the first pitch of the game, Hannah Bates was hit with a fastball just above the kneecap, a pitch from Chris Tyson that was clocked at 97 MPH. Was it nerves, or was the Golden Bears pitcher looking to send some sort of message right away? Had the pitch been just a bit lower, it’s likely we are talking about a significant injury to Bates, but she was able to play through it. Of course, if you want to keep her from stealing second, this is a way to go about it, and after Lexi Alcorn lined out to short, the inning came to a quiet end when Stephanie Reynolds grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. The Rockets were smart not to send Bates on an attempted steal at this stage in the game. In the second, Mallory Harris started it off with a bang, powering a 462-foot moonshot over the left-field fence to put the Rockets on the board and start an inning like we hadn’t had in a while. Kayla Carey and Michelle Covington followed up with singles. After Rachel Landry struck out, Hannah Kent singled in Carey to make it 2-0. With runners on the corners, pitcher Hannah Lee snuck a single up the middle to make it 3-0. Then, it was Hannah Bates at the plate again, and again, Tyson missed inside on the first pitch. On the second, Bates, not known for power, hit a long fly ball into center that bounced off the wall, easily scoring Kent and Lee to make it 5-0. Then, Bates was given the signal: go for the inside the parker. She would beat the throw, getting what is actually her first inside the park home run with the national team. The knee was fine. Tyson was ejected on the next pitch when he seemed to throw at Lexi Alcorn. Newmanistan ultimately jumped out to a 9-1 lead, and held on for a 9-5 victory. Hannah Bates was asked if she felt she was thrown at in the first inning, “I don’t know, actually. I think so, but it could be nerves of the moment getting to him. He is said to have the reputation of throwing at people, so he was probably trying to send some sort of message. We’re not gonna worry about it, but if we see him again, if he tries it again, he will see a much less calm Rockets bench.”

Jennifer Hughes was on the mound for the second game, and once again, the Rockets provided run support, scoring another nine runs against Stetzra in the home opener. Harris hit her second home run of qualifying, and the Rockets again pulled away. Hughes allowed three runs in seven innings. A decent, though not amazing statline. About the offense, Mallory Harris told reporters after the game, “It is good to get these two games out of the way. We know we are all better then how we hit the last time out, and we have been able to get rid of any ill feelings about that effort pretty quickly.” Hannah Bates agreed, “The last classic happened, we can’t change it. What we can do is remind people that we are the same people that won the (WBC) 41 title, too.”

In the third game, as we mentioned before qualifying started, Courtney Duvall was moved to the third spot in the rotation, so she would pitch against Crystalline Caverns. The result? Nine innings of shutout baseball, striking out 13, and allowing only 2 hits. Typically, she’d be out there for the tenth inning as well, but manager Ashley Stevens did not want to push it. She is still the winning pitcher, since the Rockets scored three in the top of the tenth. Michelle Covington had the big hit, with a 2-run, 2-out double. Hannah Kent singled to drive her in for the third run. With the lead, going with closer Meghan Girardi was a no-brainer, and she tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the 10th. For Courtney Duvall and the Rockets, this was quite a result, as it was her first start since a mid-year elbow injury. About the effort, Courtney told us, “It was more then was expected, but I am happy to have gotten through it as I did.”

Newmanistan is 3-0 out of the gate, and will look to put this group to bed as early as they can.

WBC 43: Free Republics defeats Acapais 9-8 for 3rd straight win to start WBC

Kyle Thomas has yet to lose a game as manager of the Republican National Baseball Team. Facing three unranked teams in their first 3 games of World Baseball Classic 43, the Free Republics rose to the occasion to shut those teams down and secure 3 victories. With the 3 victories, the Free Republics has taken an early lead in Group 7 play.

The opening game of the World Baseball Classic in Midand did not start well for the Republican team. The Midand players seemed to swap positions on a regular basis so I can't tell you who was playing what position at what time. The Republican team started slow as Teresa Mrazova overslept, leaving Zac Gatehouse without his personal catcher early on in the game. Jayden Riley started the game behind the plate for the Free Republics and managed to confuse Gatehouse, who walked Dekon Wopen and beaned Inderp Rop to start the game before striking out both Francis Wopont and Adam Wopont. After a Intran Ropa infield single, Gatehouse threw 3 consecutive wild pitches which permitted Midand to take a 3 to nothing lead. Poll Sater would inexplicably swing at the 3-0 pitch, however, and hit it on the ground right to shortstop Honomi Kamei, who tossed it to 1st baseman Oskar Bjorgum for the force out. Mrazova would arrive at the ballpark following that half-inning and would be substituted into the game for the following innings.

The Free Republics would fight back into that game, starting with a solo home run by Hollie Rogers in the 5th inning. Gatehouse would pitch 5 and a third scoreless innings, leaving the game after a Honomi Kamei triple with the bases loaded had put the Republicans in the lead 4 to 3. Emil Antonsen entered the game with runners on first and second and just 1 out in the bottom of the 7th. After striking out Poll Sater and forcing Grans Admirao Thrawp to hit a popup that was caught by Mrazova, the Free Republics led 4 to 3 after 7. The FFR would add 2 more runs in the 8th as Randy Baran doubled off of the wall to score Oskar Bjorgum and Hollie Rogers. The Free Republics would add 3 more runs in the 9th as Oskar Bjorgum hit a 3 run homer to give the road team a 9 to 3 lead. After Avdei Kazantsev loaded the bases with nobody out, Kiyosumi Takeuchi came in from the bullpen. Takeuchi would force Francis Wopont to ground into a 6-4-3 double play but the lead runner Orson Krennip would score on the play. After Adam Wopont struck out, the game was over and the Free Republics had won 9 to 4.

While "Wild" Ralph Fiedler would issue 8 free passes against West Guam, he still managed to no hit the opposition into the 6th inning when he was pulled after starting the inning with back-to-back walks. Kyle Thomas had debated pulling the South Charlotte Condors (ENBL) star after he walked in a run in the second inning but after he struck out the side to get out of the bases loaded jam with only 1 run conceded, Thomas decided to leave him in the game. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Republicans took a prohibitive lead on a Honomi Kamei inside the park grand slam to plate the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th runs of the inning. Nicholas Fisher would follow with a moonshot of a home run that flew right over the upper deck, landing at the concession stand inside a fan's beer as he was paying for it. The concession stand provided the fan with a free beer and the fan took the baseball with him back to his seat where he discovered that it was Nicholas Fisher's home run ball and the entire thing had been shown on the giant video screen inside of the park. While the bullpen would give up 5 hits on the day, the Free Republics would have a lopsided lead by the time Fiedler left the mound and would hold on for an 11 to 2 victory.

The third game of the World Baseball Classic against Acapais was much closer than the previous games. Gioacchino Arcuri would be knocked out of the game after 5 innings, having conceded 4 runs and thrown 125 pitches. The Free Republics, however, had a 6 to 4 lead as he left the game. The first 3 runs came in the first inning on a 3 run Oskar Bjorgum home run. The other 3 would come on a bases loaded 2nd inning double by Nicholas Fisher that cleared the bases. Third baseman Alexander Capon would add 2 more Republican runs with a 6th inning home run but then Rhys McIntyre would concede 2 runs in a tough 6th inning and Luana Cremonesi would earn a blown save by giving up 2 more runs in the 8th inning. In the 9th inning, Philipp Schmitz would manufacture a 9th Republican run by drawing a walk, stealing a base and scoring on a Ferrau Bergeron single. Mario Rothschild would take the mound for the bottom of the 9th and would proceed to strike out the side for his first save of the World Baseball Classic. Cremonesi picked up the win.

In the next few days, the Republican National Team will face last year's 2nd place team Darmen at General Milani Field in East Point and Midand at National Organization for Men Stadium in Estonopolis, with a bye day scheduled in-between. Darmen is off to a 1-1 start, having been defeated 5-2 by Acapais on day 2. Sheamus O'Connor of the Reco Purple Sox will be facing Merit Olhouser of Darmen while El Fierro Seals star Namo Busque will take on whoever the Miland starter will be. Tickets for both games are still available. The first 45,000 fans to arrive at the Darmen game will receive a Honomi Kamei bobblehead and the first 45,000 to arrive at the Miland game will receive a Nicholas Fisher bobblehead so be sure to buy a ticket soon and show up early if you want a souvenir!

| With the Athletics coming off a day's rest, it was important that they come out and get this win on the road to avoid falling to 2 games under .500. The right hander Frank Sullivan was given the start for this one, and he performed quite well in his first outing: only giving up 4 hits while striking out 9 over the course of 6 2/3 innings before giving up a solo home run and being relieved by Tom Hurd. Meanwhile, the offense did what it could, giving Sullivan a 2 run cushion before tacking up 1 more in the 7th. While it was a decent game offensively, with 8 hits in total, it seemed like the Athletics had a time getting runners across the plate when they were in scoring position. Thankfully, the defense did well enough to only allow one more and get the Athletics back to a .500 winning percentage. Frank Sullivan was credited with the win, while Ellis Kinder was given his first save of the season. |

| The Athletics continued their road trip with a visit to Abanhfleft, where they faced right handed starter Joffrey Yedlin. Despite this, Bauscland got off to a good start with 2 runs in the first 2 innings off of an RBI double from Billy Goodman and a solo home run from Third Baseman Grady Hatton, his second of WBC 43. From there, George Susce would settle down after giving up a run in the 1st to pitch 6 solid innings, striking out 10 while allowing a walk and 6 hits. Ultimately, with 2 more runs coming in the 5th and 9th, it was clear that Ellis Kinder would have to come in again to get the save. This he did easily with a 1-2-3 9th inning where struck out 2 of the 3 Revolutionaries. He's now 2 for 2 in save opportunities. Susce was given the win while Yedlin was given his first loss of the season against an Athletics team that has performed remarkably well on the road, having won all 3 of their road games so far this year while having lost both of their home games. Perhaps it was really just a case of early season jitters, but one can only hope that the Athletics will be able to bring their successes on the road back home for the home crowd to enjoy and soak in. For now though, Bauscland is tied for 1st with Filindostan and Abanhfleft with 3 wins, 2 losses, and 9 points total. |

DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK : PRARIEANS BOUNCE BACK WITH TWO HOME WINS

(STONEBRIDE) Don't call it a comeback. They've been here for years.
The Prarieans bounced back from their oh-and-three start with two wins at home, plus a bye to keep Matchday 2 interesting. However, they still sit bottom of Group 2, facing tough games coming up against Banija and Lycrabon. Let's dive into the action and review these games one by one.
The first game was against the Autonomous Region of Helsinki at Pompeii Park. Helsinki was 2nd in the group at the time, so they were definitely a team to watch out for, but they're still unranked, so you can't expect a ton. The Prarieans were still cautious though, and Mark Carlson made sure to put out the preferred lineup, even though we were throwing Jaime Greta (our #4) for that game. Greta is a good pitcher (Duh. He made the starting rotation on the national team.) but the Helsinkians were dangerous and could probably light up any pitcher that isn't an ace. And light him up they did-even though Helsinki had the lead only once in the game, they kept in it. The only reason they didn't win was because of Connor Laurent's three run blast in the 8th-but we'll get to that later. Anyways, Greta had 3 runs scored on him and a runners on 1st and second when he was pulled in the 6th for Troy Tate. That runner on second would come in to score on a single by the Helsinki first baseman. However, Tate struck out the final two batters of the inning to stop the bleeding.
The Prariean offense was all dogs go by the start of the game, even though it was fairly regulated until the 8th. Nick Munksgaard unloaded on the first pitch he got for a 421 foot blast to left field to give the Prarieans an early lead. Although the Helsinkians would get runs in the third and fourth innings, the Golden Loons would respond with a run of their own. The NP offense kept the Helsinkians modest for most of the game.
Then, the eighth inning. Julius Reccevia shut down the Helsinkians in the seventh and eighth with one-two-three innings, but North Prarie was still down 4 runs to three.
Nick Munksgaard started the inning off with a strikeout, which was OK, since he had that bomb in the first, among others. Andrew Esler hit a single up the middle after the Munksgaard strikeout. Steven Cummings walked, putting the tying run on second and the go-ahead run on first. Pompeii Park was loud, but holding their breath in at the same time. That's when the CLC Silver Bullets left fielder prodigy Connor Laurent stepped up to the plate.
The first pitch he got was a ball on the outside corner. The crowd clapped, but wanted something more. Another ball, this time low on the edge of the zone. Same clap again.
Then the Helsinki pitcher delivered a changeup dipping down towards the bottom of the plate. Laurent cranked it into the left-center gap. Laurent, plus everyone else in the stadium watched as the ball soared over the field in a arc that was fairly fast, but seemed like it took minutes.
Then the ball landed in the left-center deck.
Pompeii Park exploded in the roar of the crowd. Laurent put his arm up in celebration, and the Prariean dugout went crazy as the Helsinki dugout sat, quiet.
Connor Laurent had basically just won the game.
And he did. Even though a Helsinki triple followed by a single quieted the Pompeii crowd, Louis Cook put their offense to bed, and the game was done.
Laurent got gatorade poured on him after the game.

DOGGOS DOING...FINE, ACTUALLY


The commercial break advertising the new branch of the Central Financial Services ends, and the opening graphics, a more vibrant variant of the MNN News ones, swoop across the screen as we zoom in on the MNN Sports anchor, John Goodkoe.
A graphic displaying the team standings is shown in the bottom.

He silently clears his throat, takes a small sip of water, and begins to speak.

"Hello sports fans, and welcome back to MNN Sports!" he says with enthusiasm, as he was always trained to. "We are currently on Matchday 6 of the 43rd World Baseball Classic, hosted by Cassadigua. Our baseball team the Doggos has been certainly reaping in a lot of excitement!"

A brief clip of Doggos fans cheering over game results broadcast on the large monitors on the SISC and Doggo Stadium.

"We come here to bring you this update", he continues. "The Doggos, while losing in their match against Free Republics, is currently in 2nd place in it's group. The fans are excited about an unexpected rank that many sports experts have said it was unlikely to reach."

Another clip is shown, where the camera is focused on a group of cheering Doggos fans celebrating near Doggo Stadium.

"When Dekon Ketchkon from the Doggos was asked about how they were doing he said..."

The view switches briefly to Dekon, who says, "Fine...actually."

It abruptly switches back to John, who continues.

"Anyway, baseball fans, stay tuned. Notices will be posted on our website and on our Twitcher account for when Matchday 7 goes live."

We cut to commercial.
I used to be very active.
Now I grovel all day about how inactive I am.
