History : Anteo was born in 2341 in the human colony of Pax, a small community on the frontier world Hermes in the Alpha Centauri System. Hermes was somewhat of a social experiment on the part of the prospectors, and a legal experiment on the part of the Federation. With the world population steadily growing, groups that had previously been on the fringes on society gained a critical mass of followers to sustain communities. These communities could have all kinds of backgrounds: political, religious, spiritual, philosophical… There were anarchist communities, communist communities, Neo-Nestorians, New Aryanists, anti-vaxers, libertarians… All over the world these new communities popped up on the frontiers. The Federation didn’t see much in these communities. At best they were begrudgingly conforming to their law and order, and at worst they were hotbeds for terrorism.
The world of Hermes formed a way out for both these communities and the Federation government. The mountainous world was one dangerous to traverse, with only pockets of arable land and liveable conditions. Raging rivers cut canyons kilometres deep, and high atmospheric winds and strange magnetic fields made flying dangerous and hard. The perfect world for isolated communities to thrive. Under the Caesar –program, these communities were given funds and means to ship over to Hermes. Plots of land were divided, and a gradual placing of these communities made sure that they would not interfere with one another. The planet was turned into the physical embodiment of a political spectrum, making sure communists and fascists did not overlap.
Anteo was born in an extreme pacifist-anarchist community of Pax-on-Hermes. The community was wholly against the use of force in their society. There was no government; the closest thing resembling a government was the monthly town square meeting where all the problems of the town were put forward, and solutions were offered by those who knew something about the subject. There were no enforced laws, too, as enforcing laws was seen as a form of force. Instead, the person would be withheld cooperation by the other members of society until they either bettered their ways, or until they had to begin a self-imposed exile. All agreements were based on simple trust, making the town an idyllic example of the perfect anarchist system. Of course, their peaceful ways were funded by the Federation, who had to supply these small communities with medicine and other modern equipment.
Anteo lived a quite regular life in Pax. His parents were idyllic Jeffersonian farmers who lived their life in the rustic ways of their community. Both his parents had been first-generation colonists, idealists who still clung very heavily to their traditions. Anteo went to school every other day, and worked on his parents farm in the days that he didn’t go to school. Both his parents and his teachers reinforced the idea that all forms of violence and force were bad, with a plethora of examples from Old Earth, where violence reigned supreme. Growing up far away from all violence, in a small community that controlled itself more than anything, Anteo never saw the need for violence. The only wildlife on Hermes was made up of escaped farm animals that had gone feral, but still had that anthropocentric brain that had been nurtured over thousands of years of evolution. The only enemies were the elements, which could not be fought with weapons.
2358 saw a marked shift in colonial policy by the Federation. A centralist party won just enough seats in the 2358 elections to become relevant. They had the clout to lay claim to one ministerial posts, which the ruling coalition decided would be the Secretariat of Colonies. After all, there the centralist party could do the least amount of damage. This was true on a large scale, but for Hermes everything changed. Increased centralisation meant that the independence they had enjoyed was somewhat eroded. It still existed overall, but there were a few things that changed over a period. First, the school curriculum was adjusted to be more like the one on Earth, although that was mostly ignored. Also, the schools became publicly funded, but the inhabitants of Pax-on-Hermes just left that money on a bank account without touching it. Lastly, and most grievously, the government enforced some manner of conscription. Every community had to deliver some people for military service. As the Pax-on-Hermes community was small, they only had to deliver a handful of people. At first the colony ignored the demands, but as the supply shipments started to dry out, the people finally conceded. Anteo and a few others volunteered to take up the burden so that the other members of the community didn’t have to suffer.
Of course, being children of Pax, they were also immediately declared as conscientious objectors. A few of the pack took up desk jobs, others became mechanics or logistical officers. Anteo, however, found his work in cooking, joining the culinary department of the Federal Logistics Regiment. He had loved cooking before, and this was nothing different. It took him quite a while to get accustomed to the hard nature of military training and the mistrust people had in Earth society. He had learned about it in school, but seeing it in person for the first time was quite something, especially in the military. Still, the logistical regiment was one of the least exerting of all the branches, and it was a little easier to accommodate there.
The next years of his life, Anteo basically spent as a cultural tourist. He worked for the Naval Officer Academy at the Paramaribo Space Elevator, where he did most of his work as an apprentice and an assistant. The cooking core at Paramaribo was not only a professional group, it was also a group of friends. Among whom was William Vandersloot, who would quickly become the most important person in his life. William was somewhat less pacifist than Anteo and had joined the military voluntarily, but still William was an important bridge between Anteo and Earth society. Together they travelled the world, seeing both the big cities and the wild nature that still existed there. Anteo loved the cities most of all, since he had scarcely seen so many people together. The way people did business still frightened him a little, but William was always there to support him. Anteo even took him home on leave one day, which was an entire culture shock on the part of William. Still, he could see himself being happy there, which was the most important part.
In 2368, everything changed. In Potsdam, Berlin, a few Stalinist extremist officers from Hermes attempted to take the city for themselves, supported by both right-wing and left-wing elements of society. In an instant, Hermes came back into the spotlight, and only as a hotbed for terrorist activity. Societal backlash followed immediately, and even within the military there came a pressure to discharge all soldiers from Hermes and send them home. The Secretariat of Colonies resisted, however, and managed to get a reluctant compromise. The conscripts from Hermes were sent off-world, not serving on any important Earth locations anymore. Instead, while William remained in Paramaribo, Anteo was moved to the Eclipse Station. Life there was a lot more boring, a lot harder, and Anteo couldn’t make the friends he had made in Paramaribo. There was a general distrust of Hermes citizens, and people did their best not to associate with him. The only real contact he had was with William, with whom he had video contact. Even at Eclipse, far away from Earth, he was not really desired, and commanding officers treated him like a hot potato they wanted to get rid of as soon as possible. So, he was transferred another three times over the course of a year, each captain wanting to get rid of him as soon as they could.
Eventually, this landed him on the Boadicea. For this, he actually volunteered. It may have been the fact that, on a Courser vessel, there were only outcasts, or just because he wanted to see the universe. He volunteered, and was transferred almost immediately. No other chefs of his ranking had tried to volunteer, so there was no choice, really. Ever since getting the assignment, however, Anteo has started to worry. Worry about his home, what would happen to it while he was out on deployment, if he could keep in contact with William… Especially, if the two could build up a life together after all was done. There was always the possibility that he had changed so much that he would not fit into Pax society anymore.

Terranihil wrote:After graduation, Dr. Raman offered Dr. Nasteur a position on his special team researching Anomalies. He accepted and began extensive work on anomalies, specifically macroscopic variants. The research was mainly speculative since very little information about Anomalies existed. Nasteur studied the anatomy and behavior of anomalies by using information from Anomaly sightings and samples. Raman, with the useful assistance of Nasteur, developed the Anomaly Threat Level and Size Classification.
Raman and Nasteur also researched the origins of Anomalies by examining the ancient ruins of previous sentient lifeforms. Other scientists has already theorized that there is a link between the extinction of several previous civilizations. Raman and Nasteur tried to find how the Anomalies played into the extinctions. The research team compared the destructive behaviors of Anomalies to fossils from extinct civilizations in order to confirm Raman's speculation that Anomalies were the cause of the extinctions; However, the research inconclusive. During this time Nasteur published several articles proposing that the appearance of Anomalies was indeed the beginning of a cataclysm, but his ideas were ruled as conjecture. The few discoveries that were made were classified and reported directly to the Federal Navy which implemented the information in developing new technology and tactics to deal with Anomalies. The research teams work was generally not recognized by the majority of the scientific community or by any governments.

History: Born on Gagarin, Mars. Anya was the child of the predominantly Ethnically Russian community's mayor and a Naval Intelligence Officer. She always had the expectations of serving the public in some form shoved onto her unceremoniously by her parents, but it was something she took in stride. Her academics were always something she took pride in, easily climbing to the top percentile of her classes from Kindergarten all the way to graduation. After Highschool, she did what was expected and enlisted, becoming a 'Seabee' in short order.
Her career with the Navy is somewhat standard and expected. As a Seabee her role of landing on planets, setting up FOBs and landing ground, and then following the infantry setting up supply routes and further FOBs regularly put her on the forefront of the battle lines. Giving her more than one chance to either watch the worst of humanity, or actively participate in it. Culminating in said approach in the Gorland Massacre, Anya was one of five members of her Company to avoid being charged with war crimes. Most of said battle was classified to avoid a drop in morale, or to avoid propaganda exploitations.
Her utmost skill as an engineer instead of a warrior was seen during transit from one battle line to another. Despite being a steelworker by trade within the Navy, her service required a lot of time around a fairly significant number of ship systems and base infrastructure. Her general intelligence and aptitude on picking up enough info to be called a jack of all trades also helped.
On October 14th, 2362, Anya went above and beyond to ensure that almost three thousand lives on board the carrier SNV Jormungandr made it back home. With a section of engineering venting atmosphere, the reactor overloading, weapons systems down, and a majority of the engineering team dead, Anya took matters into her own hands. As one of the few on board with an idea of how to functionally resolve the situation, she suited up, and ventured into the death trap the reactor bay had become. Spending the next twenty minutes, absorbing nearly 600 rads while maintaining her station at the reactor control terminal, manually overriding coolant and fusion rates to ensure the ship could get itself and it's crew out of hostile hands. For this action she was sent for a prolonged stay on the medical station, the SNS Hope, as well as the SolFed's highest decoration: The Medal of Honor.
After recovering, Anya has spent a much more calm tenure as a Seabee, no more heroics, and no more outstanding massacres. As of now, it's just her, her crewmates, and a shit ton of potentially mind flaying anomalies ready to eat humanity's collective soul. Fun times.

History: Coming from a military family, it was always expected of Anya Fatima to join the armed forces when she came of age. Born to a father who held Afghan heritage and a mother from the Earth nation of Ukraine, Anya was always at a crossroads as to which culture she held herself more to. Both her parents had served to some measure in the SolFed's Armed Forces, and so when it came her time she planned on enlisting herself. However, this caused strife among her family. Both of her parents were graduates from military academies and went straight into officership. Her plan to join "the boots" as they were colloquially called was met with resistance.
However, the defining moment for Anya's decision came when she was applying to service academies in the SolFed. She spectacularly failed several classes in the last year of secondary school, and her offers of admission to these service academies was revoked. Her parents saw no other option but to support her decision to enlist. Though she will never admit it to her parents, she failed the classes on purpose, to corner both herself and her parents into enlistment.
Upon entry into the Federal Marine Corps, Anya faced almost immediate ostracizing. Many of the Marines were still stuck in the old ways, and doubted that Anya could perform the same tasks as her male counterparts, especially when shit hit the fan. Time and time again, she proved them wrong. She kept up with her male colleagues, and exceeded them in some regard. The respect she felt she was warranted was cemented during her unit's exposure to combat on Cherryh Prime. After a botched orbital entry, where her platoon was forced to viciously fight their way out of an exposed position, they found themselves pinned down from withering enemy fire. In a moment of desperation, Anya seized the communications unit from their dead Comms Specialist and called in several accurate orbital bombardments. This allowed her unit to retreat successfully.
This proficiency and tactical skill, combined with her high marksman and stellar physical scores, earned her a top spot for entry into the Federal Marine Special Operations Group. Here, she trained in irregular warfare and the nuances of combat behind enemy lines. These skills would come in handy during the Titan Uprising, when 3rd Team was tasked with seizing enemy airfields and shipyards from behind the main battle lines. Their success in this maneuver allowed the rest of the SolFed forces to push the revolutionaries back and quell the uprising much sooner than would have been possible without 3rd Team's actions.
After her success in FMSOG, Anya was recommended to become a commissioned officer in the Federal Marine Corps. Though she initially resisted, she was essentially ordered by her commander in FMSOG to attend on the promises that she would eventually be able to return to the unit as an officer, which would give her both a lofty salary and the opportunity to conduct operations that would normally be considered highly classified to "boot" Marines like herself.
After being commissioned, Anya found herself in several more battles before she was assigned to the Boadecia. She is not pleased with the prospect of once again working with normal Federal Marines, but her devotion to the Corps supersedes most of her other values, and so she will devote herself to both her platoon's survival and the well-being of the crew, come what Lovecraftian horrors may.
