ALL TIME RECORD: 56-49
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 32: 6-4
INTERNATIONAL BASEBALL SLAM VIII: 4-5
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 33: 5-5
INTERNATIONAL BASEBALL SLAM IX: 12-7, IBS IX champion
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 37: 13-17
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 38: 16-11

as U.S.A.R.
ALL TIME RECORD: 72-59
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 39: 24-14, Loss in quarterfinals
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 40: 17-13
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 41: 16-17, Loss in Round of 16
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 42: 15-15

After 3 average tournaments, the Southern Bears blossomed in the IBS IX. The Southern Democratic States finished with a 5-3 record for 15 points in group A, tied with Frenline Delpha. Both teams had to play a tie breaker game for seeding. SDS lost the game 6-5 and had the 7th seed. They played against the #2 seed, the Bat Slaves. SDS won the series 2-1 against Gregoryisgodistan. SDS played the semi finals against Abanhfleft Revolution. The Bears lost the first game 9-2 but finally won the series 2-1. The Southern Democratic States was in the final against the United States of Devonta Thundersticks. Devonta won the first game 4-1 and the Bears won the next one 9-4. Devonta won the 3rd game 5-4 and SDS won the next one 3-2. In the 5th and final game of the IBS IX final, the Bears won 4-1!

Then the Southern Bears was missing in action until the team comes back for the XI olympiad as part of the North Eurasian Unified Sporting Team but short of their female players, the Bears didn't qualified with an atrocious 0-4 record. Then, the Southerners finished 4th in group A with a 13-17 record in the World Baseball Classic 37. In the World Baseball Classic 28, the Southern Democratic States had a crazy finish in Bulter Group where 3 teams were tied with 45 points but only two teams advanced to the playoffs. South Yerfilag were the unlucky ones. The Bears faced an unranked team in the round of 16, but this unranked team was Newmanistan who were coming back after being absent for many seasons. Newmanistan beat the SDS in 3 games.

In 2018, every North Eurasian nations (but Pays den haut) united together to form a socialist superstate. The new federation has been named the Union of Socialist Alpine Republics, this federation, composed with 30 socialist republics, inherits SDS's rank. To read more about the "creation" of the U.S.A.R., read this story. In it's first participation in the WBC as the U.S.A.R., the team finished in 1st place in Darmen group with 20 wins and 10 losses. The Bisons played against the infamous Musterfield in the 1st round and our pitchers struck out a lot of batters. The Alpine Union won the series 3-1. In the quarter finals, the Reprezentacja Alpejski lost 3-1 against Ethane. Then, in the WBC 40, the U.S.A.R. finished 2nd in group 5, tied with Zwangzug with a 17-13 record, but the Zebras won the tie break and the Bisons didn't qualify for the playoffs. In the WBC 41, the Alpine Union finished 2nd in group 5 but got swept by Newmanistan in 3 games in the round of 16.

Notes

After an embarrassing failure to even make the playoffs on home soil last year, the Republican National Baseball Team has been completely revamped going into WBC 43. Republican National Baseball, LLC fired the entire coaching staff and carried on an extensive search to find a new manager. Eventually, they settled upon Kyle Thomas as the new manager. Thomas hired a completely new coaching staff, including former national team pitcher Aimone Cremonesi as the new pitching coach. The new coaching staff carried out an extensive scouting expedition to build a new team, eventually settling on a roster of 30, which is significantly smaller than previous Republican National Team rosters.

For the first time, the Free Republics will be sending a mixed-gender team to this WBC and the new women players are expected to make significant contributions to the team. The first woman selected to the team was Luana Cremonesi, the niece of the pitching coach. As a freshman, she won the closer job for the Nejax Horns, one of the elite college teams in the Free Republics and helped lead the team to a national championship by being virtually unhittable all season long. Honomi Kamei and Hollie Rogers will start at shortstop and 3rd base, respectively. Kamei was the sole bright spot on a terrible Republica Vipers team, putting up numbers that would have likely won the MVP award on a better team. Hollie Rogers is the reigning RABL MVP after leading the Barkersville Titans to a surprise pennant. Teresa Mrazova's handling of the New City Time Bombs pitching staff was a major reason why the Time Bombs won the XBL pennant, which won her a 3rd place finish in XBL Rookie of the Year voting. She will serve as Zac Gatehouse's personal catcher but will otherwise back up Brock Shield. Evelin Norberg and Julie Brodeur have played key roles on a Petrograd Greed team that led the XBL in scoring but failed to repeat due to the implosion of their starting pitchers. Brodeur could fill in at any position in the event that a player is hurt or needs rest.

While the designated hitter Nicholas Fisher is a great hitter, he is absolutely awful in the field and thus will only be used as a pinch hitter in games where the designated hitter is not being used.

All of the players on the bench are likely to see playing time over the course of the WBC and Kyle Thomas will not hesitate to pull a pitcher who is obviously tired. Strategic substitutions and defensive shifts should be expected at appropriate times.

The various leagues in which these players compete domesticaly vary greatly in terms of caliber of play. The ENBL in Newmanistan is obviously vastly superior to any of the domestic leagues in the FFR but among those domestic leagues the XBL and the TPB are the best leagues with the RABL, SPBAA and BLM on a slightly lower tier. The RCAA is college baseball and therefore plays only a 60 game regular season with a much lower level of play.

Notes

The newly reunited Kingdom of Saintland is sending a male team to the WBC for the first time since WBC 31. Feministvs Sanctvsterra, which sponsored Sanctii National Baseball Teams for many years, is no more having been disbanded by order of King Paulus XVI. The son of King Andreas, King Paulus XVI ascended to the throne of East Saintland a few months ago following his father's death from natural causes. Weeks later, King Petrus XX of West Saintland also died of natural causes, without a male heir. Although West Sanctii succession law had been changed to permit a female heir to ascend to the throne, Paulus XVI did not recognize the legitimacy of this law, choosing instead to recognize the old law under which he was the legitimate heir to the western throne. When the western prime minister refused to recognize Paulus's claim to the throne, his armies marched across the St. Paulus Wall and set out to claim his throne by force. Eventually, with covert assistance from the Salvation Circle, a secret front for the Church of Saintland that runs the Malifornia Charter Society in the Free Republics, he conquered West Saintland and claimed both thrones after his cousin "Queen" Gloria renounced her claim to the western throne.

In the weeks following his military triumph, King Paulus XVI decided to pursue his lifelong dream of playing in the World Baseball Classic, a tournament that a team from Saintland had not participated in since World Baseball Classic 40, prior to the second time warp. King Paulus selected 16 of the best male baseball players from Saintland to join him on this team. While most of the players are from the eastern portion, due to the Feministvs Sanctvsterra regime's policies that discriminated against male athletes, Andreas Volusenus and Lucas Flavia are from the western part of the Kingdom. King Paulus is hoping for success in the WBC in order to help heal the lingering division in Sanctii society and show the remaining followers of the goddess heresy that the God of their ancestors is real.

King Paulus XVI has a reputation as a dominant pitcher and hitter in Sanctii domestic baseball, who has led the league in wins on 10 occasions, ERA on 12 occasions, strikeouts pitched on 8 occasions, batting average on 6 occasions, home runs on 14 consecutive occasions and RBIs on 11 occasions. Although he is starting to show the signs of age, he remains both the best pitcher and the best hitter in Saintland today, which is why he has been the MVP of East Saintland's league 15 times, which is more than twice as many MVP awards as any other Sanctii baseball player has ever won.

SUPER-LLAMALAND WBC43 ROSTER

“First to Five” sounds considerably better than “Second to Five”, but the Tigers will be happy to get five anyways. Laurent Mårtensson has kept much of the same roster intact - whether that’s emblematic of continuity or complacency will only be made clear to us later. With injury luck on the Tigers’ side this year, and the team hungry to eke out a sixth title before Newmanistan, we could find ourselves in the same place we were a year ago: watching the Tigers on top of the world.

UNIFORMS

Image

A little bit of a change for the Tigers, as they’ve switched from a domestic-based kit supplier to No Nonsense of Filindostan. The change in suppliers is accompanied by a change in design. The "home"s remain mostly unchanged, as NNS has provided a slightly brighter version of the popular blue-and-golds. The away uniforms have gone back to a common trend from the past - pinstripes - on a vibrant green background.

NICKNAME: The Tigers
MANAGER: Laurent Mårtensson
ACHIEVEMENTS: Five WBC championships (28, 30, 31, 40, 42), eight finals appearances (28-31, 37, 40, 41, 42), one IBS championship, co-hosts of WBC30
RANK: First
Style Modifier: -2

STADIUM:
Tyler Rocke Memorial (43,500) in downtown New Llama City, former host of the WBC30 finals and a number of Baseball Club Championships matches. Home to the New Llama Wizards.

PLAYSTYLE

The Tigers put speed and defense first: their entire starting lineup is at least above-average with the glove, and most are positional standouts. They're a little bit less aggressive on average than one would expect on the basepaths considering most of the players’ speed, but if pitcher or catcher can't hold runners on very well, they won't hesitate to rack up the stolen bases. The team doesn't rely on one single batter to knock in runs; the team is a bit less powerful than others of its caliber, but most players get their fair share of extra-base hits by hitting a disproportionate number of doubles and triples. Pitchers generally excel at pitch command and sequencing, and most manage to get above-average spin and movement on their balls.

The team is noted for their intense study of both analytics and video (which, after recent government investment, has become even more intense), thus making them a bit different from most national teams. This is seen both in lineup selection and in preparation for games.

INFIELDERS

Sofia RASMUSSEN, #8, 35, C-1B, R/R - New Llama Wizards

Nicolas ROUSSEAU, #6, 32, 1B, L/L - Apple Valley Vipers

Hector RINALDI, #4, 28, SS-2B, S/R - New Llama Cyclones

Markus WRIGHT, #24, 30, UTIL, S/R - New Llama Cyclones

Emery NOVAK, #18, 32, 3B-LF-RF, R/R - Kyrinson Twin Pines

Catcher Sofia Rasmussen remains a Llamanean star and arguably the world’s best catcher: one of the team’s leaders, she’s a brilliant pitch-framer and an expert contact hitter (holding the national record for seasonal batting average at a videogame-esque .417) who has found considerable power recently. Nicolas Rousseau, despite his deceiving height of five-nine, is known for both his slugging bat and defensive acumen, and has cemented his spot in the starting lineup of the Tigers. Up the middle, the team will play the dynamic pairing of former college superstar Markus Wright and the speedy Hector Rinaldi. Wright and Hector Rinaldi may be the best double-play pairing in the world, but both get their fair share of hits as well. At third base, Emery Novak is known for his diving stops and strong arm, and should hold his own offensively for the Tigers as well in addition to being arguably their best defensive infielder. All five players are stars at their respective positions, all offering the speed, defense, and doubles power this team is so known for in droves. This infield will be an excellent core for years to come.

Carsten RIVIERA, #41, 28, C-1B, R/R - New Llama Cyclones

Victoria RADOVIC, #10, 27, UTIL, L/R - City of Dinschria

Dominik KÄSTNER, #12, 23, 2B-SS-CF, S/R - Derrierton Surge

Cameron MORTENSEN, #31, 30, 1B-3B, S/R - Apple Valley Vipers

A pretty solid bench selection. Carsten Riviera is a solid defensive catcher with a lot of power, having hit thirty or more home runs for four consecutive seasons. He’d be starting for almost any other team in the world - but Sofia Rasmussen is simply too good, and Riviera will have to be content with second choice until she retires. A powerful bench bat, Riviera will be expected to DH if necessary. Eyrelian-Llamanean Victoria Radovic is a strong defender at virtually every infield position, and she has the speed and doubles power emblematic of this Tigers team as well. Dominik Kästner was made the first overall pick by Derrierton out of high school just two years ago, but he’s already a legitimate five-tool talent and borderline all-star in the LBL and more than deserving of his spot on the team - and, arguably, Rinaldi's spot in the starting lineup. Last but not least, corner infielder Cameron Mortensen has been part of the Apple Valley Vipers’ core since his debut, and it’s not hard to see why - although he’s not a superstar, he’s a very versatile, well-rounded player with a lot of strengths.

OUTFIELDERS

Megan SJÖBERG, #16, 31, OF, S/R - Rogers Whitecaps

Gudjon FRANDSEN, #28, 27, OF, R/R - Apple Valley Vipers

Lucien RUSSO, #32, 28, OF, S/R - Vargas City Lions

The best the Tigers have had in years, the outfield is definitely one of this team’s strengths. Gudjon Frandsen has firmly established himself as the starting center-fielder - he’ll never hit for that much power, but stealing sixty bases two seasons ago - an LBL record - and earning a seventh consecutive All-League Defensive First Team award last season will make up for it. And his plate discipline has only improved. Meanwhile, Lucien Russo is a physical specimen with unheard-of defensive range, power, and speed. He’s fully put his knee issues behind him, and impressed everyone with the fourth 30-30 season of his career last year. New addition Megan Sjöberg doesn't come with the hype and electric playstyle that Frandsen and Russo bring to the table. However, with Isak Gunnlaugson retiring from the national team, she does offer on-base ability, plus speed, doubles power, and excellent defense - and, after a recent breakout, she's one of the best contact hitters on the team as well.

Cory IGLESÍAS, #33, 24, OF, R/R - Vargas City Lions

Khris BARTLETT, #18, 26, OF, L/L - BC Northern Emerald

Don't let the age fool you - 23-year-old Cory Iglesías, nearly dubbed Rookie of the Year in the LBL last season despite being drafted in the fourth round and going straight to the majors, is incredibly polished. A natural leader, Iglesías is an impressive contact hitter with his fair share of power to the gaps. And although he's not as athletic as you might expect after multiple leg injuries, no amount of injuries can sap his incredible feel for the game - especially in terms of baserunning, where he's likely to finesse extra bases out of nowhere. Bartlett, on the other hand, is a converted pitcher who couldn’t make it in the LBL, and it shows - although he’s incredibly athletic and a brilliant defender, his batting skills are still a work in progress. He’s most likely to be used as a pinch-runner or a late defensive replacement (or, after last year, a relief pitcher if things get tight), and he would excel in either role.

PITCHERS

note: the Tigers will experiment with starting rotations, likely playing all five for the first fifteen matches, but switch to a four-person rotation (likely demoting the fifth starter to long relief) after the halfway point of the group stage.

Justin ZHENG, #13, 37, R - Nandaozhou Sharks

Zheng throws a low-nineties fastball with movement and complements it with a number of decent breaking pitches - curveball, changeup - as well as his legendary slicing 93-mph shuuto, dubbed longdexuanzhuan by fans of his hometown Nandaozhou Sharks, who he’s recently signed a two-year extension with. Combined with his ability to outthink hitters, he’s easily the best pitcher the nation has seen in a long time and the undisputed staff ace until his retirement - but he’s starting to show cracks after another brilliant but human WBC42 and a failure to win the ENBL with Pocono City.

Natalie WU, #49, 27, L - New Llama Cyclones

Made the number-one draft pick by Northern Emerald three years ago, Wu made an immediate impact on her team, becoming Emerald’s undisputed ace before being dealt for a massive package to the New Llama Cyclones, a decision that probably keeps Northern Emerald’s management up at night. With the Cyclones, she’s turned into a bona fide ace and constant Magnusson Award contender. Wu’s arsenal is one of the team’s best. The lefty can command five different pitches - a low-90s fastball with a lot of movement, a slider, cutter, changeup, and an excellent 12-to-6 curve. A fan favorite too after delivering a masterpiece against Newmanistan in game five of the WBC40 semifinals.

Jacob BURR, #47, 33, L - City of Dinschria

Burr has established himself as City of Dinschria’s ace pitcher despite multiple offers from bigger clubs. While most would point to his tall frame, muscular physique, and mid-to-high-nineties fastball as causes for this, he would point to his seemingly-unimpressive curveball. The combination of a 11-to-3 curve and the fastball, which has a lot of spin, has managed to fool hitters effectively, and he backs the combination up with a decent enough sinker. Has become more and more consistent as he’s matured, peaking with his second Henriksson Award (Cy Young) last season.

Genevieve STRAUSS, #21, 22, R - Mendel Mets

Genevieve Strauss is exactly who the Tigers needed to fill in for Maddie Wagner, even if their playstyles are...more than a little different. Like Wagner, Strauss is fearless and composed under pressure, famously pitching gem after gem to carry a below-average Mets team to the semifinals. Like Wagner, Strauss is a team leader who steps up in the clutch. And like Wagner, Genevieve Strauss has serious command. Unlike Wagner - very, very unlike Wagner, in fact - Strauss can hit triple digits. Her biggest obstacles to superstardom? A bit of an attitude problem - she tends to not turn it up until she has to - and a lack of secondary stuff beyond an inconsistent - but absolutely scintillating - slider.

August BENDTNER, #48, 24, L - Denison Patriots

An electrifying talent whose repertoire is centered around one of the best curveballs the nation has ever seen, complemented well by a mid-90s fastball. Admittedly has a bit of a temper, and has ever really been able to control his pitches well or find that elusive third pitch, but has world-beating potential. Rumored to be looking for a move abroad after years playing second fiddle to Jacob Burr, and is also strongly supportive of Northern Llamanea independence.

A note: these are their recommended roles, but most of these are elite Llamanean relievers and can fill other roles pretty well. In the Llamanean baseball leagues, roles tend to be flexible. The closer usually isn't the best pitcher - that'd be the fireman. Think Dellin Betances or 2014 Wade Davis - not just limited to the ninth inning, but to the most high-leverage situations. Cameron has continued to modernize his bullpen management, and this could begin to be true for the closer as well. Specialty pitches are marked with an asterisk. The Middle Long reliever will usually be relied on in 5+ out situations (e.g. a 6-3 lead in the sixth inning or something).

Long: Aurelio GOMES, #66, 28, R - New Llama Cyclones - fastball, cutter*, changeup
LOOGY: Cameron BOURNE, #56, 29, L - Kyrinson Twin Pines - two-seam fastball*, slider, changeup
Middle Long: Marcus HONG, #58, 33, R - Xingcheng Renaissance - fastball, slider*
Middle: Caroline WLADECKI, #54, 26, R - South Falls Athletic - fastball, splitter*, circle change
Middle: James BRENNEMAN, #39, 29, R - Vargas City Lions - fastball, sinker*, slurve
Middle: Brittany ZHEN, #45, 30, R - New Llama Wizards - fastball, slider, changeup*
Middle: Trevor GONSALVES, #83, 27, L - Vargas City Lions - fastball, sinker, curveball*, changeup
Closer: Anthony BEAUREGARD, #67, 23, R - BC Northern Emerald - fastball**, slider, changeup
Fireman: Jason VAN DIJK, #51, 31, L - Vargas City Lions - fastball**, cutter*, sinker, changeup

Laurent Mårtensson, the manager behind two of Llamanean baseball’s greatest dynasties, the mid-10s Apple Valley “Invincibles” and the early-twenties New Llama Wizards three-peat, is nothing short of an utter coup by the LFA. Lured out of an early retirement, the half-Arondic mastermind will be expected to build another dynasty with the Tigers. And if anybody can do it, it’s Mårtensson. He’ll be working with almost the exact same coaching staff that won WBC40 and nearly won WBC41. On paper, this coaching staff has a lot of starpower on it, and they work very well together.

THIRD FOURTH FIFTH SIXTH TIME'S THE CHARM?: HICAÑA WBC43 ROSTER

Every nation takes their own path to the WBC. But perhaps none of these paths have been harder than that of the Society of Hicañans Abroad. Since the Hicañan Civil War broke out, the nation has struggled to return to stability and resolve the underlying tensions that led to the number of conflicts Hicaña has recently been pushed through. With foreign assistance, the Fourth Republic managed to purge itself of President Sandoval's autocratic, far-right regime. Unfortunately, efforts to set up a new government led by Solomon Ervine failed, and Hicaña finally collapsed into non-existence. Now, a number of expatriates are beginning to re-introduce the idea of Hicaña with the Society of Hicañans Abroad, which is beginning to resettle the nation - in many ways, some more violent than others. And the nation's fledgling sports teams could play a vital role in engaging Hicaña, and the few coastal areas of Miklandia that they illegally but forcefully hold.

Just looking at results, WBC39 and WBC40 did an excellent job of doing so, as the Phoenixes somehow scrapped their way into the Round of 16 at the former before falling to Schiltzberg. But the Phoenixes are more dysfunctional than you'd expect, as the baseball team has become the site of a brutal power struggle between superstar manager Alex Cameron, who now finds himself with the backing of the totalitarian Hicañan government, and certain factions of the Hicañan Baseball Association, but with staunch opposition from a weak but present resistance, including a number of former players who have refused to play for Cameron. This team has the talent to go far...but they probably won't if the last few classics are any indication.

Manager: Alex Cameron (formerly of South Falls Athletic and the Llamanean National Team)
Assistant Manager: Christopher Morgan (formerly of Rogers Whitecaps)
Stadium: The Miguel Molina Metropolitan in Keslapisces, Miklandia (38,000, Park Factor 199)

NEWMANISTAN ROCKETS

“Home of the Original Five-Time Champions!”

Let’s start with the technicalities:
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No, my lineup is listed here. Use that!
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes. I will normally include upcoming pitchers in my prior RP.
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but only say they are hurt. I will determine the severity.
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: Yes, on a basis of no more then one more then you eject from your own team.
Godmod other events: No
Use DH at home: Another “Hell no!” here

Additional Information that is very important to me: Newmanistan does not prescribe to the modern day concept of pitch counts determining how long a starting pitcher is kept in for. In fact, pitch counts are not even kept track of outside of curiosity sake. Such count is not displayed on the scoreboard, so if you want to track it for your pitcher, you must do it manually.

– If Newmanistan has given up 2 runs or less and WON, then the starting pitcher has gone all nine innings. No ifs, ands, or buts. This is true even if it would have been a save situation.

– Another Newmanistan trait is aggressive base stealing. Think back to the days of Vince Coleman and Ricky Henderson in their primes.

Home Game Schedule Info:
(to be filled in eventually)

Head Coach: Ashley Stevens 63, Loudon Leopards
– Daughter of former Newmanistanian superstar pitcher Jessica Brasfield. Ashley went on to have a fantastic career in her own right, and will do her best to make sure that the Rockets live up to their legendary pitching performances of the past. The Leopards are the dominant pitching team at home. She is honored to be only the second coach ever in Newmanistan baseball history, and like her predecessor, won the title in her 4th try.

Hitting Coach: Chelsea Benjamin, 60, Pocono City Capitals
– Hit for decent power in her playing career, but she had an uncanny knack for being able to make contact. She is studious in observing a player’s mechanics, and can usually pick up on problems quickly to make sure hitting slumps are temporary.

Pitching Coach: Tracianne Conti, 59, Loudon Leopards
– Works with Murphy in Loudon to make sure that everything is perfect with the pitching. Conti is astute on being able to decipher when a pitcher is getting tired, and does not only use a pitch count number to do that. Intelligent on bullpen usage as well.

STARTING ROTATION:

1A) Hannah Lee, 25, LHP, South Charlotte Condors (#25)
– In WBC 40 at 19, she was added to the roster to get the WBC experience, and was not used a ton. Made a spot start in qualifying for WBC 41, and tossed a shutout. Tossed another key shutout in the playoffs. Had a great WBC 42, and cannot be blamed for the Rockets premature exit in there. Moving her up to the top spot in this rotation is going to open some eyes, we agree, but she is coming off a great season with South Charlotte, including a near dominant run in the playoffs as the Condors surprisingly made it to the ENBL World Series before losing to Southport.

1B) Jennifer Hughes, 31, RHP, Jessicaville Millionaires (#42)
– In the last two years, Hughes has developed into a top starting pitcher in the Empire, and was second to Duvall in Keisler Award voting lat year. Hughes has been a part of the World Baseball Classic roster the last two classics, but as a long reliever. With her career absolutely taking off right now, she’s being given much more responsibility. In the shadows of Courtney Duvall, Jennifer actually had an outstanding WBC 41 herself. Won the Keisler Award in the ENBL this season, her second consecutive.

1C) Courtney Duvall, 35, LHP, Loudon Leopards (#22)
– Duvall is a dominant pitcher at home that puts up some amazing numbers. She is tall, and while she can and will beat you with a fastball, it is her curveball and slider that make her so dominant. A splitter is also part of repertoire. Tossed a perfect game against Musterfield during WBC 39 qualifying. Margaret loves her, as evidenced by us (almost) always getting a favorable scoreline that is conducive for a good start. (May not always be a win, but its starting pitcher friendly a lot). Had a dominant WBC 40 campaign, but then was simply amazing in WBC 41, tossing a gem in Game 7 of the finals on pretty much, one leg. WBC 42 was not her best, and in the recent ENBL season, she sustained a season ending elbow injury mid-season, interestingly, at the Tundra Falls Proving Grounds. At her age, which is getting up there now, there is some concern about she can recover from that.

1D) Shannon Kelly, 28, RHP, Putnam Lake Eagles (#33)
– In another stunning move in the rotation, Ashley Stevens has included Shannon Kelly, thanks to an incredible season in the ENBL that saw her go 20-4, with a league leading 1.54 ERA with Putnam Lake. She was voted the top pitcher in the Western League (the above three are Eastern League pitchers). It is not her WBC debut, as she was on the WBC 42 roster last Classic, but as a utility reliever. After a career best year, the Rockets will hope that she can continue her brilliant form into WBC 43.

1E) Cassie Burke, 20, RHP, Seminole Bay Gators (#37) (WBC Rookie)
– At just 19 years of age, Cassie made quite an impression with the small market Seminole Bay Gators, the coach Stevens continues with the theme of going with the hot hands from the most recent ENBL season. She’s a bit young to be given this role, not even Hannah Lee was handed a starting spot this young, but her 1.86 ERA and 246 K’s were very impression. Due to playing with Seminole Bay, the win-loss record is not as impressive, but she’ll be happy to get more run support now. Plus, with this Classic being decided in Cassadaigua, a Cassie in the rotation just makes sense.

Bullpen:

Closer) Meghan Girardi, 36, LHP, Loudon Leopards (#43)
– Shannon Spencer, the scapegoat (and deservedly in most cases) for the games that we lost is no longer part of the team. The ball is now handed to Girardi for the ninth, but she’s got plenty of experience in the Classic having served as the set-up reliever a few times. In Game 7 of the WBC 41 finals, it was Girardi, and not Spencer who pitched the ninth for the save, so this was inevitable move. Not surprisingly, the fastball is her out pitch.

Set-Up) Katrina Payne, 27, RHP, Dover City Mountaineers (#44)
– As the closer in Dover City, Katrina makes her debut in the 42nd Classic. It will be in the set-up role, which is the same role Girardi had last year. The righty has a good fastball, and will throw it often, but her curveball is what will leave batters shaking their heads on the way back to the dugout.

Michelle Tremont, 28, LHP, Centralia Cougars (#51)
– Tremont will be given more responsibility in what is her second Classic. Her out pitch is a fastball, and it is only that way because of how she excels in setting it up with a wicked cutter and split-finger. She’s a mid-inning reliever, more then anything else.

Kelsey Winkler, 33, LHP, Springfield Thoroughbreds (#40)
– A reliable reliever for mid-inning situations. Normally will be used for 2-3 innings at a time. Could go as much as five. Has a very impressive ENBL season which led to her getting some consideration for the rotation. Expect to see her throw a lot of innings.

Alyssa Mackey, 35, RHP, Tundra Falls Mariners (#48)
– A versatile pitcher that could go as many as five innings, but is generally only going to be looked on in short relief.

Andrea Courville, 26, RHP, Jessicaville Millionaires (#49)
– Andrea is not flashy, and sometimes people will wonder how she does it. Her secret is pinpoint location, and the ability to be a step ahead of the batter in keeping them guessing. Her curveball and slider are nasty, plus she even mixes in the screwball from time to time. Her fastball isn’t really super fast, but it just seems that way after facing the breaking stuff. This is her first time on the team, and will likely be used in mid-inning situations. Debuted in WBC 41 as a part of the bullpen, and after showing great progress the last two years, got a chance to start in WBC 42, though now returns to the pen.

Jessica Gray, 29, LHP, Putnam Lake Eagles (#28)
– The southpaw loves to throw her curveball and slider, which is similar to how Courtney Duvall wants to get you out, as well. Jessica does not have quite as a good a fastball as Duvall, but relies on the wicked 12-6 break of her breaking pitches. Made her debut in WBC 41 in the rotation, and was hit and miss over the course of the campaign, and the same was true in WBC 42. When she’s on, she’s great! Had another strong year in the ENBL, but her inconsistency at this level as seen her taken out of the rotation.

STARTING LINEUP (Throws/Bats)
1) Hannah Bates- CF (R/S), 34, Putnam Lake Eagles (#8)
– Get your catcher ready, but even then it might not be enough. Bates is a pure contract hitter, and because of her amazing speed, she can turn singles into doubles, and leg out many infield singles. She has a good eye, and that walk you may surrender may soon end up a three base walk. Epitomizes the Newmanistanian legend of aggressive base stealing, and has no worries about stealing third as well. Doesn’t hit homers over the fence, usually, but can get the inside the park variety every now and then. Considered the unsung hero of our WBC 41 title team. If you think she’s slowing down, she stole 106 bases in the ENBL this year, so think again.

2) Lexi Alcorn- LF (R/S), 35, Springfield Thoroughbreds (#15)
– So what’s even more of a pain in the neck then having to deal with someone like Bates in the leadoff spot? Having a clone of hers batting second, like Alcorn.

3) Stephanie Reynolds- RF (R/S), 27, Pocono City Capitals (#14)
– Reynolds has impressed everyone at home with her power. As a rookie with Pocono City, she pounded out 49 long balls, while maintaining a BA of .318. She also has a great eye, and drew over 100 walks last season. Moves up from 6th in the batting order to 3rd, as Brittany Morgan is now 37 and has seen her play drop a bit to where she is no longer part of the national team.

4) Mallory Harris- 1B (L/S), 34, Southport Tigers (#27)
– The most dominant offensive player in Newmanistan today. Mallory can get it done in all aspects, hitting for power and average while also providing gold glove caliber defense. Oh, and she’s not afraid to steal a base or two, either. She also knows she’s good, and enjoys showboating. The type of player you love if they are on your team, and hate otherwise. Had a monster season in the ENBL this year, voted the ENBL MVP, and won the ENBL World Series with the Tigers. Everything is clicking right now.

5) Kayla Carey- SS (R/R), 33, North Charlotte Wildcats (#5)
– Provides amazing defense in the middle of the infield, but also has a career batting average of .353, ranking tops in Newmanistan among active players. Sneaky power, and averages around 30 HR’s in a 162 game season. Speedy on the bases and a huge trash talker. Like Courtney Duvall, she sustained a season ending injury (knee) about 2/3rds of the way into the year. She is an ENBL free agent so has plenty of incentive to have a big Classic.

6) Michelle Covington- 2B (R/S), 33, Jessicaville Millionaires (#4)
– Known for a high level of swagger and flair, she loves to talk up with the best of them. She can hit too, and is more of an extra base hit threat then a power threat. Has bulked up a lot since the last classic. May show more power then expected.

7) Rachel Landry- 3B (L/L), 32, Olympia Gladiators (#18)
– Rachel has been a part of every WBC since our return, but has been the backup to Brittany Morgan every year until now. Still, she was always our assigned to be the designated hitter, so she got a fair amount of playing time. Now, she’ll get to show the world her glove, and that power-capable bat, more often.

8) Hannah Kent- C (R/S), 37, Dover City Mountaineers (#38)
–Hannah's batting average floats around .300, and enough power to respect (15-20 HR's per season). Great defensively.

9) Pitcher

DH When Necessary: Kenzie Magee- MI (#21)
Note: When the DH is used, Magee HITS EIGHTH, ahead of Heather Kent.

Bench:
Brianne Yeomans- C (#39)
Christine Hansen- CI (#19)
Lori Brewster- CI (#23)
Sierra Davis- CI (#7)
Sydney Hassler- MI (#21)
Kenzie Magee- MI (#11)
Kelsey Brandis- OF (#7)
Ashley McCabe- OF (#12)
Meghan Streeter- OF (#17)
Jessica Novotny- Utility (#9)

(OOC) Why The Rockets are All-Female: From time to time, I get asked this. When we signed up for our first Classic, WBC 7, we anticipated that we would not be good right away. Therefore, for that Classic, I used a team of all women to provide an IC reason for why we might not have been as good. Then, we made it all the way to the championship series. Based on that, I just figured I would stick with it. As it continued to work, why mess with it?

MNN NEWS
SPECIAL EDITION

The opening graphics and animation of MNN News plays, as Midandians are glued to their television sets, watching as the WBC 43 unfolds.
The graphics end, and famed news reporter Derek Gredken sits at his chair in front of his desk, ready to report.

"Hello Midandians, and welcome to MNN News this afternoon!" he says, looking sharp and professional. "Let's get right in. People around the world are excited about the World Baseball Classic 43, as baseball teams from all over the world come to play in this huge sports event. Midand's most popular dogball team, now known as the baseball team the Doggos, have entered into the tournament, and are causing quite a bit of excitement. Correspondent Jacey Lillian is at the Southern International Sports Center in Midandia right now, and fans are going crazy! Jacey?"

The view switches over to Jacey standing amidst a huge crowd cheering outside the SISC, with many people celebrating.

"Thank you Derek, and yes, it is crazy over here! The crowd is wild, waiting for the Doggos to enter the field. I believe there's even more on their way!"

The camera switches to her interviewing one of the fans.
"So", she says to him. "How do you feel about the Doggos?"
There is no response for a few seconds, and then he cheers. "Yes Doggos!"
Jacey laughs, and turns back to the camera. "And there you have it, we're crazy! And we wish all our luck for our Doggos in the tournament! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to join the crowd!"

The view switches back forward to Derek in the newsroom, laughing. "Thank you Jacey. Anyway, stay tuned, we're coming back with more WBC tournament news. Stick around."

Music plays as the graphics take over the screen, and we cut to commercial break.
I used to be very active.
Now I grovel all day about how inactive I am.

Presenting the Official Group Draw for WBC 43

Welcome to the 43rd edition of the World Baseball Classic. There will be 75 nations participating in the competition, and we have split you all into 15 groups of 5. Each group will have two teams qualify for the playoffs, and then the next best two teams will receive wild cards as a total of 32 nations advance to the next round.

To conduct the group draw, we have split the nations into 5 pots, which are seeded in accordance to the nations rank. Pots 1, 2, and a little more then half of pot 3 contain nations with a rank heading into the Classic. The unranked teams were then sorted alphabetically, with a few making it into pot 3, and the majority in pots 4 and 5. The pot breakdown is as follows:

Pot 1: Super-Llamaland (1), Scootalove City (2), Cassadaigua (3), Newmanistan (4), Darmen (5), Schiltzberg (6), West Phoenicia (7), Nova Anglicana (8), Ethane (9), Maklohi Vai (10), South Covello (11), Lycrabon (12), Equestrian States (14), Abanhfleft (15), and United States of Devonta (16)

Pot 2: New Sangti (17), Northwest Kalactin (18), Alpine Union (19), Cosumar (20), Hicana (21), Banija (22), Drawkland (23), Vangaziland (24), Ko-oren (26), Sandberg (27), Pripet Socialist Republic (28), Free Republics (30), The Royal Kingdom of Quebec (31), St Saratoga (33), Hampton Island (34)

Pot 3: The Sherpa Empire (35), New Jarwel (36), North Prarie (39), Anthor (41), Humaliwo (43), Kita-Hinode (51), Krossa (51), Melbergia (62), Saintland (66), Acapais (UR), Bauscland (UR), Beepee (UR), Brookspring (UR), Chagall (UR)

Pot 4: Crystalline Caverns (UR), Deseret and Zion (UR), East Apikai (UR), East Ares (UR), Filindostan (UR), Gloriax (UR), God and Country (UR), Highton (UR), Holy Nazirealm (UR), Ireland Isles (UR), Liventia (UR), Mezropolis (UR), Midand (UR), Mirfast (UR), Nevis and Kitts (UR)

Pot 5: New Haudenosaunee Confederacy (UR), Nuevo Caracas (UR), Oscioru (UR), Stetzra (UR), The Autonomous Region of Helsinki (UR), The Greater Nordics (UR), The Imperial Frost Federation (UR), The Star Enpire (UR), The Wolf Zones (UR), United States of Yasser (UR), USS Monitor (UR), Valliesta (UR), Wabijust (UR), West Guam (UR), Xelsis (UR)

The group draw then began, and took place in a highly organized manner. The following were the results of the draw. The order within each group is randomized, so on a day where “1 plays 2", its not always pot 1 vs pot 2 in all 15 groups.

Group 1
Deseret And Zion (UR)
Krossa (51)
The Wolf Zones (UR)
Scootalove City (2)
Sandberg (27)

Group 2

World Baseball Classic 43

DRAW REACTION

Homer Unn is our hapless but loveable head of Baseball Beepee.

Known for his inane commentary in post match interviews; Unn is often accompanied at interviews by star player Bruce Labare who tries to represent the squad in a more positive light than Unn ever could.

Unn was awarded the manager of the tournament award after leading the squad to a shock third place finish in the Prarie Classic.   It's widely reported that the goofy manager cried for three days straight.

Despite his failings as an orator, Unn is an excellent tactician and is able to get the best out of his team when the job demands it.

Following the draw for the WBC43 which saw Beepee drawn against very tough opposition in Group 5 alongside  world number 1 Super-Llamaland and world number 18 Northwest Kalactin together with Nuevo Caracas  and Gloriax

Unn provided a press conference.  Reading from a small book titled "Famous Quotes", Unn read:-

"We shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender."

After finishing his reading, Unn marched off stage.

The stirring speech has become a viral sensation; mainly because Unn headed the wrong way off the stage and walked into a broom cupboard where he appeared to stay for almost one half hour before sheepishly reappearing and heading back to his office.

It is believed that the team have been in pre-tournament training which has been going well. However the difficult draw is unlikely to see Beepee progress beyond the group stage.

May 20th

Manager Michael Higgins, or "Pinky" as he was known among the team, sat in his office while going over the latest statistics. A knock came on the door, and the Athletics' hitting coach Paul Schreiber came in with the results from the Group Drawing.

Schreiber: "Pinky, got a minute?"
Higgins: "Yeah, sure thing."

He puts down his notepad and leans back in his chair, simple wooden one that kept with the team's relatively spartan feel (at least when it came to clubhouse decorum).

Schreiber: "Results just got in."
Higgins: "Well? What are we working with this go around?"

Schreiber tossed the manila folder on his deck and sat down across from him.

Schreiber: "Looks like we're getting off rather easy this year, group 11 and only two ranked teams. Both of them mid-tier."
Higgins: "Paul, with our relative inexperience, I'm not sure if there's really such thing as 'getting off easy'."
Schreiber: "We can only hope."
Higgins: "Sure right on that..."

Pinky took out the papers and began looking them over.

Higgins: "Let's see here... The Star Empire... unranked, good. Rather bold name isn't it?"

Schreiber shrugged, and Higgins got back to it.

Higgins: "Aban... Abanhfle... How do you say this?"

Again Schreiber shrugged.

Higgins: "Anyway, 15th ranked. Rather high for being "mid-tier", hopefully they won't be too much of a thorn over the course of the season. And then we have Cosumar, 20th ranked... Again, higher ranked then what I would've liked, but I think we'll manage."

Higgins flipped to the last page.

Higgins: "Then finally Flindostan and us... both unranked."

Schreiber: "What's your thinking?"
Higgins: "Let's keep things positive for now, we wouldn't to hurt morale before the season starts. Who we got for our first game Wednesday?"
Schreiber: "That one team whose name we can't pronounce, the 15 team."
Higgins: "Right, well I just heard from Dave that Brewer's looking good right now, hopefully he'll start off well enough. How you think Simon Grant's coming along? He seemed to be struggling a little during batting practice."
Schreiber: "He'll be ready, it's just a bit of offseason rust."
Higgins: "Let's hope it's just that, his age has been starting to get to him lately. How much you think he's got left in him?"
Schreiber: "Oh, three or four more years at the most, unless he somehow pulls something off."
Higgins: "Well, in any case, his leadership is most valued, let's just hope he stays healthy enough to be that leader."

Pinky took his cup of coffee and took a sip.

Higgins: "Ah... Here's to a successful WBC Paul, let's make the most of it."

Kovvika Grizzlies

Grizzlies History

The Grizzlies were an upstart team in a small but growing city named Kovvika. In 1919 they beat the triple-defending, triple champion Bielspo Boxers and won the championship in a thrilling series. The Grizzlies folded in 1926 and returned as a minor league team in 1960-1985 and then from 1991-1994. They folded once more however for there memorable history they were reincarnated as the Krossan national team in 2009. They played international tournaments up until 2014 when the Osta Blades became the national team. The Grizzlies were chosen as the national team once more for the most recent WBC.

WBC groups set; Baseball Liventia relieved at lack of mixed-gender rivals
OREAN— Liventia have been given a difficult group to get out of in the World Baseball Classic after the draw was made today in Cassadaigua.

Placed into Pot Four, the side's easiest draw would have seen a group comprised of 16th-ranked Devonta, world number 34 Hampton Island, and two other unranked newcomers.

Instead, the Red-and-Gold will face world number six Schiltzberg, 28th-ranked Pripet Socialist Republic, and 43rd-ranked Juvencus alongside the also-unranked Valliesta.

Liventia are making their return to the international baseball fold after decades in the wilderness, and have designated two stadiums to host their 12 home games instead of spreading them around the 24 grounds of the Liventian Baseball Championship.

Orean Capital Grounds, home to Orean Capital Baseball, will host top team Schiltzberg on matchdays four and 24; Juvencus on days eight and 18; and Pripet Socialist Republic on gameday 12. The ground is no stranger to the WBC, having been used when Liventia hosted the tournament in its early days. The designated hitter will not be used for these five games.

Port Cartfort Park is the more left-field choice made by the Baseball Federation of Liventia, selected because of its outfield dimensions and wall height that give right-handed hitters and speedsters a big advantage. That should work in the favour of DH Dermot Rowntree, who plays for the hometown Saboteurs Baseball Club and broke the 40-home-run mark in league play this season. PCP is due to host the Opening Day fixture against Pripet SR as well as one on day 22; it will also welcome Valliesta three times on days six, 16 and 26; and Schiltzberg (MD14) and Juvencus (MD28) once each.

Baseball Liventia has publicly acknowledged, with some relief, that neither Schiltzberg nor Pripet SR—the other two teams in the group to announce their rosters to date—have mixed-gender squads.

Neither the Capital Grounds nor PCP have separate changing rooms for different genders, as mixed-gender team sports in Liventia are nearly unheard of at the top level domestically and uncommon at junior level. While both stadiums have dressing rooms that will serve the needs of an all-male or all-female team, there are no modesty facilities for mixed teams.

"It's something that isn't cost-effective for us, given Liventia rarely hosts international tournaments in any sport any more, and it doesn't happen domestically," an anonymous top-ranking Baseball Liventia official said.

"We'll do our best if Valliesta or Juvencus name mixed squads, but they'll either have to get changed together or be delayed by having each gender change separately.

"Call it home advantage, I guess," he shrugged.

WBC groups set Northwest Kalactin has a challenge
We’ll talk about the groups we have for gods sake like we got number 1 in the world Super Llamaland for crying out loud this may be a hard WBC anyways let’s go over the teams in our group

Super Llamaland: Super Llamaland is a very powerful team last WBC we had a encounter with them in the playoffs we actually won a game in the playoffs but it wasn’t enough Super Llamaland went on the win the world Baseball Classic that year along with taking the #1 rank in the world.

Beepee: Beepee is a very interesting team they are a rising star in the sporting world in fact they got third place in the prairie Classic (the tournament Northwest Kalactin got second in) according to a Beepeean News network they are unlikely to make it past the group stage.

Gloriax: Gloriax is a very interesting nation just like Beepee they have made their return to the Sporting World by re-opening AER sportswear and just like that their back on the world stage they did some cricket tour with Damukuni I forgot what it is called though.

Nuevo Caraces: Nuevo Caraces is a nation with not much sporting experience they are going into this years World Baseball Classic unranked and their team has been having training struggles lately.

Stadiums:

Syangboche Athletic Complex
Location: Namche, Capital District
Capacity: 43,800
Syangboche is the home of the Khumbu Icefall Doctors and the Sherpa Imperial Baseball Museum, as well as the venue for the Sherpa Empire's home games in World Baseball Classic 42, our first foray into international competition. At an elevation of 3780m (12,402ft), Syangboche is one of the world's highest ballparks. The thin air and slightly short left field make it a hitter's paradise. The high elevation also comes with cold temperatures, strong winds, and occasional snow -- but the gift shop and concessions have plenty of blankets, jackets, hot tea, and savory goat stew for anyone that needs to warm up!

The Imperial Baseball Museum is open from 9AM to 6PM and admission is free. Stop by before the game to learn about the history of baseball in the Sherpa Empire and see the nation's largest collection of baseball memorabilia.

If you are planning a trip to the Sherpa Empire from overseas, elderly fans or those with known respiratory problems are recommended to attend games at other venues rather than Syangboche due to the danger of altitude sickness. Supplemental oxygen and trained medical personnel are of course available, but foreign tourists who put themselves at unnecessary risk will be billed for any emergency care they require.

Tourist attractions in the Lukla-Namche area include the Imperial Palace, the National People's Temple, and several mountains around the city that are popular with hikers. Some mountains require a permit to climb, and Chomolungma is closed this time of year.

Mandarin Park
Location: Nanjing, Jiangsu Territory
Capacity: 61,443
Mandarin Park is the home stadium of the Nanjing Mandarins. It is known for its sleek modern design and was voted as having the best food of any ballpark in the Sherpa Empire. The stands are decorated with red Chinese lanterns, giving the park a bit of local flair. Because it is a large park, it doesn't get many home runs. Weather in Nanjing is usually cool and wet this time of year, but not bitterly cold.

Nanjing is known for its universities, its imposing city wall, and the ruins of the old Chinese capital. There are several lakes and small hills that the locals refer to as "mountains" in the area around Nanjing.

Eden Gardens
Location: Kolkata, Bengal Province
Capacity: 66,000
Eden Gardens is the home stadium of the Bengal Tigers, and the Sherpa Empire's largest ballpark. Originally built in 1864, it is also the nation's oldest ballpark still in use. It has been renovated many times and very little remains of the original structure, but there is a museum documenting the history of the park, both as the home of the Tigers and as a cricket stadium. Most of the seating area is sheltered by colorful awnings. The field has more ground than usual in foul territory, giving fielders plenty of room to chase down foul balls that are hit in the air. This, as well as a deep outfield, make Eden Gardens a pitcher's park.

Kolkata is known for its artistic and literary history and is home to many museums. Some artists also take their creativity to the streets, decorating the city with graffiti. Although the Sherpa Empire's official language is Sherpa and it's national religion is Buddhism, much of Kolkata's population still speaks Bengali and practices Hinduism. Architecture buffs will want to visit the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, even if you don't worship Kali. Bustling bazaars and glitzy shopping malls also make Kolkata a great destination for shopaholics.

Chokpori Stadium
Location: Lhasa, Tibet
Capacity: 29,000
Chokpori is the home stadium of the Lhasa Lamas. It isn't the biggest ballpark in the Empire, but it's gold tile roofs and traditional Tibetan architecture make it one of the most beautiful and distinctive. Here and at Syangboche, fans sometimes bring prayer wheels to pray for their team to win. Like Syangboche, Chokpori is around 3800m above sea level. It has a larger outfield, but the high elevation still makes it a good hitter's park.

All of the advice about altitude sickness and cold weather applies here, the same as at Syangboche, but like most places in the Empire, there is plenty of hot tea.

If you are visiting from abroad, check out the Potala Palace and Lhasa's monasteries while you're here. Lhasa has an important place in the history of Tibetan Buddhism, and remains a popular destination for religious pilgrimages from across the Empire. If you have a lot of money, it's also a great place to shop for talismans and magically-enhanced products such as infinite suitcases or bottomless trash barrels.

Jinnah Stadium
Location: Islamabad Municipal District
Capacity: 48,200
Jinnah Stadium is the home of the Islamabad Snow Leopards. It's a well-built park, but not a very distinctive one. Islamabad is in the western part of the Empire where there is a large Muslim population, so all food sold in the stadium is halal. Snow Leopards games have prayer breaks so that Muslim players and fans can do their salah. SIBA (Sherpa Imperial Baseball Association) regulations require that these breaks be held between innings, not during an inning.

The game between the Sherpa national team and the United States of Devonta that is being held at this ballpark will be a day game, and will include a break for afternoon prayers. Most of the Sherpa players are not Muslim, and it's fine if you're not either -- visitors who are not Muslim should not feel obligated to pray -- but it was decided to go ahead and have the prayer break for the benefit of the local fans.

Chengdu Sports Centre
Location: Chengdu, Sichuan Territory
Capacity: 42,000
Chengdu Sports Centre, home of the Chengdu Pandas, is a modern multi-use stadium. It's less eccentric than Syangboche or Chokpori, but still tends to favor hitters. The Pandas mascots Momo and Juju are crowd favorites, and Chengdu is known for staging elaborate dances or Sichuan opera skits during the 7th inning stretch.

The city of Chengdu is known for its spicy hot pot, bustling night life, and many teahouses. Visitors looking for something a little quieter might enjoy a day trip to Mount Qingcheng, which boasts lush foliage, scenic waterfalls, and several Taoist temples.

My computer has been behaving better the last few days -- haven't been getting blue screens and error messages when I boot it up -- but I am still posting things as a finish them so they don't get lost if my computer dies.)

The group draw for the WBC was made and the schedule has been released

Waddington, Republic of Wabash - (NAP) With 75 nations participating in the WBC this year, the hosts, Cassadaigua, decided to go with 15 groups of 5 teams. The Alpine Union, being ranked 19th, isn't the top team in it's group. That spot belongs to Ethane (ranked 9th). Other teams in the group are Anthor (41st) and two unranked teams: Mezropolis and Wabijust. The Alpine Union and Ethane are expected to fight for the 1st place and both teams will certainly qualify. Anthor can challenge them and beat them sometimes but will fail to qualify at the end. Mezropolis are intriguing and could play some decent baseball too.

The Alpine Union will start on the road at Mezropolis. Then on the next day, the Bisons will recieve Ethane at home. The Alpines will have a bye on the 3rd day, travel to Anthor on day 4th and recieve Wabijust on the next day. The full roster is posted below. Coach Buck Jennings announced with a few byes in the schedule, starting pitcher Amber Thomas was released from the team and she'll be replaced with relief pitcher Nick Olczak, who plays in Newmanistan for the Brighton Bulls.

Here is the full schedule. All games are broadcasted on SECN (Sports & Entertainment Cable Network) in the former Southern Democratic States and on Alpsport in other republics.

Bench Coach- Nolan Ayotte. 77 years old. Very calm, cool, and collected. Takes over if Rezende is ejected.
Hitting Coach- Elliot Isabelle. 65 years old.
Pitching Coach- Yakuba Borussa. 59 years old. Likes big, tall, hard throwing pitchers. Only Banijan and non-Ethanian on the coaching staff.
1st base Coach-Cyrus Marshall. 63 years old.
3rd base Coach- Troy Galloway. 71 years old. Very aggressive, always looking for base runners to take that extra base. This has come back to bite him on more than a few occasions.

Balenor Field, capacity of 32,000, in Icewind Dun, Demot.

With violence on going from the drought and ensuing war, the Olympic Committee of Banija, which oversees all of Banija's sports governing bodies besides the Royal Banijan Soccer Association, has decreed that none of Banija's national teams can host games on home soil until the situation is sorted. Therefore, the national team shall play home games in Icewind Dun, Demot, a neighboring country in the Glorious Southwest of Atlantian Oceania.

The roster consists entirely of players from Banija's college scene, as there is no full-time professional baseball league in Banija. This is the same squad that they used in World Baseball Classic 41 and World Baseball Classic 42.

Batting Order
1 SS Hassan Ndiaye. #30. 25 years old. Right-handed. Brother of Lallo Ndiaye. Graduated from the Islamic University of Busoga.

6 RF Kamara Singateh. #30. 26 years old. Left-handed. Easily the best hitter on the team. Can hit for power and average. Graduated from University of Ankole.

Accomplishments
3rd place at XI Olympiad in Aeropag, Commerce Heights.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No (please use the lineup I posted; however make whatever substitutions you deem necessary if you RP injuries to any of my players).
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes - it is an ever so slight deviation from the 1-5 list, to take into account pitching matchups and strength of opponent, so my match schedule has the starting pitcher for every single group stage game.
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes to all of my outfield players and bullpen. No to my starting rotation.
Largely, this is fine, as injuries are always a part of the sport- just please mention the injury and how many games they will miss, if any. A range is fine. i.e. if you want to injure, Isaiah Essa, for example, you'd need to say that he broke his ankle and will miss 10 games because of it. It's the only, I feel, to make sure we are on the same page about what, and how severe, an injury is.
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes - Same rules apply as above.
Eject my players/manager: Yes (What fun is baseball without an occasional ejection?) In terms of suspensions, I'll go the opposite of my rule above- I'll decide how long a player is suspended.
Godmod other events: Yes - if you want to kill anybody, just TG me first. Other than that, do whatever you need.
Use DH at home: Yes

The West Phoenician Confederates are gearing up for another beautiful season of baseball. In the 43rd edition of the World Baseball Classic.

With 75 teams in this season, West Phoenicia is looking forward to some healthy competition and some new blood to enter the arena. As the team travels to Cassadaigua in search of the ever missing chance to take out the whole competition.

Always the bridesmaid and never the bride the Confederates are hoping victory swings their way this season.

Placed in group 14 with a ranking of 7th place, it finds itself no longer an underdog but a top dog in its pool that consists of;

The Greater Nordics (UR)
Nevis And Kitts (UR)
Kita-Hinode (51)
Hicana (21)

With two unranked teams in the pool it can always be a rocky start as teams get their bearings to fight for dominance. The Nation of Hicana seems like one of their biggest challengers, and definitely a team West Phoenicia will keep an eye out. Its not just about placing 1st and 2nd to progress. Its about taking out the top spot in the pool.

Kita-Hinode is another ranked team that West Phoenicia will keep an eye on. Learning from the last not to rule out lower ranked teams who are just as hungry for a win. An early prediction would seem these would be the teams to watch.

There have been literally zero roster changes since the last classic. Coaching staff have decided to stick with what works and move ahead with winners which has annoyed The Feminist Party who has called for the Confederate baseball team to be mixed gender.

Try outs did have 5 women try out but none made the cut for the final roster. And in the end the previous line up was decided to give the Confederates the best advantage.

THE ROCKET REPORT

QUESTIONS CONCERN THIS TEAM

by Brianne Henry,

As the 43rd World Baseball Classic gets set to begin, we see many of the same names that will represent the Empire. On paper, that should be a good thing, but you have to start wondering a few things, and I am going to get to those concerns in this article. However, there is one thing we do not need to be concerned about, and that’s the group stage. Seriously, have we ever seen an easier group? While it is unrealistic, you can almost look at this group and think that the Rockets should roll through it with a 24-0 record, even if there are question marks. Due to a whopping 75 signups, the hosts have opted for 15 groups of 5, and there will be 32 nations that qualify for the playoffs, which are in Pinkadaigua. That’s a nation that we have had some interesting moments in, but have not always had the greatest finishing result. But, back to that group stage. The Rockets, were obviously in Pot 1, and because of the 15 groups, pot 1 was pretty deep. Who did they draw from Pot 2? Hampton Island, who were on the back end of that pot. Hampton Island has tried the Classic twice, and have been around the .500 mark each time, and have never made the playoffs. Perhaps you could see them having their day against us once or twice, but if they were smart, their focus would be on securing the second place position instead of thinking they can top us. Then, there are three unranked teams, and you never know what to expect from these. Sometimes, there is a gem in the group as all great nations start out as unranked. So far, though, early indications are that none of Crystalline Caverns, Chagall, or Stetzra will be one of those teams. None of informed the world of their players thus far, and to this point, none of them have been known to make frequent press releases concerning their play. If we had Beepee, a recent Baptism of Fire winner (not that there is a correlation between soccer performance and baseball performance, because after all, if there was, maybe we would have qualified more often then just sporadically), then things would have been more interesting.

Therefore, the team should roll through the group stage, and end up with a back end second place or wild card qualifier in the first round. Newmanistan should easily take, at minimum, two out of three against such an opponent. So honestly, the Rockets have a very easy slate until the round of 16. They’ll need to turn it up at that point. Ideally, they have a killer instinct throughout the tournament.

Let’s get to the questions:

1) Given the teams lethargic run production in the last Classic, why is Stevens returning the same starting lineup?

A very interesting concern. There is a thought that the last Classic was just one of those aberrations, and the impression is that Stevens wants to make it a throw out. Never once in the entire campaign did they score more then four runs in a single inning, and it frustrated many of us. The team then had a quick exit in the playoffs against Darmen. Stevens is going on the belief that those things happen, every now and then there is a clunker, and that’s what it was. Stevens will not make Classic 42 the end of the world based on those results. In a statement after the announcement of the team, “Every single player on this lineup is coming off a big year in the ENBL. None of them struggled. I am not going to concern myself about the last Classic in regarding their performance at the present time. They are ready to go, and can make it about redemption.” That is very true, but if the Rockets struggle to put up big innings against the feeble group opposition, then there will very interesting decisions made, one of which could be about Stevens herself. My opinion though is that they will redeem themselves, and Newmanistan will absolutely crush the teams in their group.

By the way, remember those occasional Hampton Island press releases last year complaining about female players and saying they didn’t belong in the Classic? Fortunately, they fired that disgusting manager, it appears, but if coach Stevens wants or needs to get the team fired up in the group stage, that could be some bulletin board material.

2) The average age of the team is going up and up. May this be the last hurrah for some players?

The downfall of continuing to bring back the same players is that it could seem to limit the opportunity for younger players to get a chance. That has, and hasn’t been the case with this team. With the pitching staff, youth has gotten plenty of opportunity. Just look at Hannah Lee for example, who thanks to her incredible performances, is now in the top spot of the rotation at just 25 years of age. Andrea Courville, at 22, got a chance to be in the rotation last classic. Cassie Burke, at just 20, is now in the starting rotation thanks to her impressive performance with lowly Seminole Bay. The morale of the story: if you are a pitcher, you get the chance. If you are a hitter, while that’s an entirely different story. There has been virtually no change to the lineup since our title in World Baseball Classic 41. Because of this, people are wondering if this will be the Classic for people like Hannah Bates or Lexi Alcorn. However, their ENBL seasons were outstanding, and Bates stole 106 bases this season at the age of 34. She’s not slowing down at all. I think retirements will be happen in a couple spots, but the Classic we dub the last hurrah may be Classic 44 instead of this one. That is, as long as the offense produces. Courtney Duvall is another story, maybe this is the last Classic for her, but she has other question marks about her, so without any delay, the next question.

3) Will Courtney Duvall rebound from her injury? At 35, is this her last Classic?

When you talk to international people using Courtney Duvall and injury in the same sentence, they will think it’s a reference to World Baseball Classic 41, so let’s clear the air and say that’s not the injury we reference. On August 8th of this past ENBL season, Duvall suffered a season ending elbow injury. It had a significant impact on the fate of the Leopards. Speaking of fate, many in Newmanistan have not lost sight of the fact that it happened at the Tundra Falls Proving Grounds. Are the Spirits trying to tell her something? When Duvall takes to the field in the World Baseball Classic, she will not have thrown a pitch in a competitive game since that injury. Because of some concern, coach Stevens named her third in the rotation, so it will not be Duvall tossing against Hampton Island on opening day. Instead, Duvall’s debut will come against Crystalline Caverns, on the road. Perhaps that will be good for her to play a new nation like that. Even if she does well enough, Courtney is 35 now, how much of an impact is this going to have on her career going forward? This could perhaps be, the last Classic for her. Duvall told reporters that, “I will be ready to go and feel confident about how I will perform in the last Classic.” It’s an optimistic remark, but why would she say anything else?

These questions and more will be answered as the group stage begins, but the schedule is far too soft for the answers to be meaningful. We’ll truly see what the team is made of in the playoffs.

SPECIAL INTERVIEW WITH DOGGOS TEAM PLAYERS DEKON KETCHKON AND THOMAS REPOT

Interviewer: So, it's great having you two here.

Dekon: Oh yeah, it's great. Another camera, some more lights, it's fantastic!

Thomas: (laughs) Oh yeah, IT'S IN MY EYES!

Interviewer: (chuckles) Don't melt while there you two.

Dekon/Thomas: (chuckle) Aah, we're melting...

Interviewer: So, start with you, Dekon, tell us a bit about yourself.

Dekon: (clears throat). Ok, um, so I was born and raised in this run-down town in the lesser known parts of Midand called Bayside. The town then didn't have much, just a couple gift shops and a gas station. My parents wanted me and my brother to go out and pursue a prosperous job and get "rich", as you say.

Thomas: Sounds like one of those cheap movies.

Dekon: (elbows him) Well, we didn't. I got big into baseball and the new sport dogball when I was around...(closes eyes)...8 or 9? I saw it on TV and I was hooked. I would play it everyday until I would literally fall on the ground. It was fun. My brother enjoyed it too, and soon we got a lot of friends joining us... (eyes Thomas)

Thomas: Yep. (elbows him)

Dekon: My parents didn't exactly like it, but I enjoyed it. Got to the top of my class in sports, and dogball was regular for me. People were impressed with my skills, and soon in college, I joined the Doggos with Thomas here.

Thomas: (smiles and chuckles)

Interviewer: Thank you Dekon, and so...Thomas?

Thomas: So, not much for me though. Normal life for the most part. So, I was living in Bayside, and saw Dekon pitching at one of his daily dogball games. I was interested and wanted to play, so I asked if I could join him. He said yes, taught me how to play, and we hit it off together. We went to the same schools, college, and soon I managed to join the Doggos with him.

Dekon: We've had a lot of...interesting games. Like, um, that game back in 2010 when the dog ran out of the stadium? The ball ended up in someone's car for some reason.

Thomas: (laughs) Oh yeah, that was fun.

Interviewer: Spare me the details, I can make something out of that. (laughs) Anyway, how do you think the Doggos are going to do this year?

Dekon: Well...like the Prarie Classic I guess. Not too high, not too low. We can't be that bad, right?

Thomas: (laughs) Yep.

Interviewer: (laughs) Thank you, it's been a pleasure having you two here.

Thomas/Dekon: No problem.

Interviewer: So, will the Doggos "do well" this year? Stay tuned for some pretty enthusiastic goals from the fans.

(graphics swoop by and we cut to commercial break)
I used to be very active.
Now I grovel all day about how inactive I am.
