NATIONAL INFORMATION

Ashkam, officially the Democratic People’s Republic of Ashkam, is an island nation made up of the formerly nomadic and divided Ashkamite tribes and the Finnic peoples that traditionally have lived in the south of the nation. The nation has a cold and wet climate and much of the country is covered in rough terrain, leading to a relatively low population of twenty four million. Its history was shaped by the Ashkam Civil War of the 1950s, which saw communism enacted and the forced unification of the Ashkamite tribes. The generations after the Civil War would know a completely different world than their predecessors, and would only be familiar with an era where the Workers Party of Ashkam dominated all aspects of life.

The nation has been rated as one of the least free ones in the multiverse and maintains isolationist policies, only importing from a few locations and keeping a focus on self sufficiency and independence from foreign influences. While the nation is officially a democratic republic, the vast majority of political parties are banned or repressed and only the Workers Party holds legitimate power. The leader of the nation is a Chairman that serves five year terms, but this position has been dominated from the beginning by the political dynasty of the Tanai family, who were leaders on the revolutionary side of the Civil War. Chairman Rada Tanai has served two full terms and rules the country with an iron fist, with a strong cult of personality existing around him and the rest of the family.

NATIONAL TEAM HISTORY

The Ashkamite national sports teams were founded to spread the glory of the country, combat foreign lies about Ashkam and its ruling nation, and bring in income for the regime. As football is the most popular team sport in the country, it was the first one to get a national team. The top players from Ashkam were mandated to join the team, which skipped the Baptism of Fire to enter the 80th World Cup Qualifying cycle directly as major underdogs compared to the other teams who actually had ranks.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

Ranulph Bustamante was quite successful in his first year as manager of Abanhfleft, guiding the men's team to their second World Cup appearance, and his win against Nephara in the final matchday of the group stage of World Cup 75 confused people enough to make them think that Abanhfleft could have qualified, but alas, they didn't. But that doesn't matter, because he managed to guide the men to the World Cup despite a rocky qualification. Now it's in Holly Jonasson's hands to ensure that the women of Abanhfleft can emulate their male counterparts once again with a new-look team that's ready to take the world by storm. This team has won bronze in the 70th Cup of Harmony but with the majority of Abanhfleft's star players nearing the tail end of their respective careers, this appears to be their last shot at winning doing something meaningful in the World Cup. But can they actually do it for one last time? Let's find out....

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft
Demonym: Fleftic
Team colors: Blue, orange, and green
Style modifier: +3.25
Formation: 3-2-3-2
Manager: Heinrich Wurzmann (60 y/o, Abanhfleft/Pridnestrovia)

STARTERS
GK: Victoria CARTER 38 y/o, Xemlice Rovers Ladies Image (#1), co-captain
Vicky is the ever-dependable skipper of the Lady Revolutionaries, or at least she used to be before Holly Jonasson decided to give the captain's armband to Chelsea Stuart. She is genuinely proving herself to being a world-class keeper, and her saves during World Cup 72 qualifying almost allowed Abanhfleft to advance to the World Cup proper that year, and only a slump of form in the second half of the qualifiers prevented the team from achieving that goal. She does tend to have a temper which is bound to flare up if she or the whole team is frustrated, as evidenced by her slap at the Sameban captain during said qualifiers. Overall, though, while she may not be the most acrobatic or sensational of keepers to watch, the fact that she is still between the sticks for Abanhfleft means that she's got quality. World-class quality, even.

RB: Claire OSGOOD 34 y/o, FC Elan Image (The Askari Union) (#2)
Claire is one of the few Fleftic players playing in a foreign league that is not the Pridnestrovian Super League, the Oontaz National League or the Copper Cuprum First Division, and she is also the first Fleftic to move to another team that is not playing within Abanhfleft's sphere of influence. Like Dana Valentine on the other side of the pitch, Claire appears tireless as she runs all over the field, covering the flanks and sometimes even acting as a wingback if the situation demands. She has a mean long shot and also sometimes can act as a poacher for set pieces such as corners. She was sold by Sarvusdalamoive Ladies to Blue Coast 1981 in Port Christopher for a club record fee of NS$22m. After many years of faithful service and numerous trophies with the Christopheran side, Claire has gone to the Askari Union for just a little bit more foreign experience but she has made it clear that she intends to return to Abanhfleft to see out her career there.

CB: Dawn JACKSON 34 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies Image (#4)
A single center back is rare to find in international football these days, and the fact that Dawn is able to do it day in and day out for both the national team and Markovsky Ladies is a testament to her skills. Few will begrudge her her moments for both club and country, and sometimes, when the going gets tough, she can be the last line of defense at one end and a scoring threat at the other just seconds later. If she's the last player between the opposition and the keeper, she will not hesitate to tackle. It's put a lot of yellow cards and a few red cards on her career, but who can blame the daughter of the legendary defender MacArthur "Mac" Jackson for inheriting his defensive style?

LB: Jordana VALENTINE 33 y/o, Xemlice Rovers Ladies Image (#3)
Abanhfleft's women's football team managed to nearly qualify for the World Cup with only three defenders, and the fact that these three defenders are able to cover the large amount of space between and around them has made said defense world-renowned. Dana has a powerful engine to accompany her unusually long strides, and her measured yet high-tempo runs allow her to cover said large spaces even for her small stature, and is excellent at both attacking and defending set pieces. However, she is a confidence player, meaning a few bad games and her form could dip below the standard, as became noticeable in Abanhfleft's last few games in World Cup 72 qualifiers following her scoring an own goal for New Wolfopolis.

RM: Bella MAYNARD 37 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies Image (#5)
Bella was one of the surprise players for Abanhfleft in the World Cup 72 qualifiers, revealing herself to be much more than just a box-to-box midfielder. Turns out that she actually has a wicked good free kick and long range shot, and is also a good poacher of both goals and set pieces, especially when she is in the box during goal scrambles. There are often times, though, that she is the last line of defense before the actual defenders themselves, and when she's not too heavily involved in the attack during these times, count on her to make a critical tackle to stop the opponents' momentum and halt their attack on its tracks. Still, she can be caught unawares, especially by a very good and very quick counterattacking side.

LM: Lea CHOI 30 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies Image (#6)
A good showing from Lea in Abanhfleft's first ever Di Bradini campaign left a good impression on Kasper Molak, and he immediately promoted her to the senior team in place of Tamika Keenings, who retired from international football soon after the conclusion of DBC 31. The half-Korean midfielder is one of the taller players on the starting eleven in comparison to the likes of Bella Maynard and Jordana Valentine. She is definitely the one with the most stamina, as her distance-covered graphics in many league, cup and national games shows how much energy she has in her lithe body. Also, she's scored a disproportionate amount of headers and volleys for someone who's supposed to be patrolling the pitch in front of the defense. After some time playing for Ladies' Third Division side Tefel Ladies, she was picked up by Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies for NS$10.5m.

RW: Lillian PRESCOTT 33 y/o, Riuwiee United Women Image (#7)
Lilly is the stronger half of Abanhfleft's main winger pairing, complimenting and contrasting Addie Singh's pace with her rock-solid presence. Her hold-up play and ball control skills have made her an indispensable part of all the teams that she's played for in her career, from Riuwiee State University to Admiral Porcusces Ladies to her new club Riuwiee United Women, who signed her from the Admirals for NS$9.6m as part of the club's new initiative to emulate the men's team in terms of success on the pitch. It was obvious that the decision to make her a first-team player for the national team was a no-brainer, although she did struggle to find her rhythm until her old teammates from Riuwiee State also received international call-ups, especially her wing partner Addie. With the two of them on the wings, Abanhfleft has attacking danger everywhere on the pitch.

LW: Adelaide SINGH 33 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies Image (#8)
Addie is the pacier half of Abanhfleft's main winger pairing, and one might remember that she was already a member of Riuwiee State University's track and field program as a sprinter before joining her friends in the university's football team. A wise choice, both for her and for Riuwiee State, it turned out, as she was instrumental to leading the university to their first (and to date only) Riuwiee Provincial Football Association Challenge Cup. She was signed by Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies as soon as she graduated and went pro, and her background as a sprinter made her one of the fastest players of the team, if not the Ladies' Premier League itself. She also has good crossing ability, and she has the confidence and finishing to go one-on-one on the keeper if need be.

CAM: Allison TORRES 33 y/o, Sporting Ceneisis Ladies Image (#10)
Sonny started off as a central attacking midfielder during her Riuwiee State University days, but her tendency to go forward and mingle with the dedicated forwards has seen her develop into a false nine under Xemlice Rovers' old gaffer George Westing. Her ball distribution skills, also developed under the same manager, have allowed her to become both an attacking threat up front and a vital link-up cog in the middle. Last year, she was snapped up by Sporting Ceneisis Ladies for NS$50m, making her the most expensive female Fleftic football player ever. However, as with many other big money signings by Ceneisis, it took her nearly half a season before she managed to establish a good tandem with her striker partner and fellow new signing by Ceneisis, Svenja Volksson of Armeia. For the national team, Sonny is a credible goalscoring threat, and her forward forays have allowed her to score her fair share of goals.

CF: Chelsea STUART 33 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies Image (#9), captain
Chelsea has become the face of both Arsenal Ladies and the Fleftic women's football team. Once she scored that hat-trick against Riuwiee United's U-21s that paved the way for Riuwiee State University's comeback victory and their first and only Riuwiee Provincial FA Cup, the goalscoring floodgates have opened up for her for both club and country. She has already gone five seasons scoring twenty goals or more in the Ladies' Premier League, winning the Golden Boot in three of those five seasons. Her hold-up play is simply world-class, and she can score from anywhere on the field, sometimes at will. Her only weakness is that she's a little timid when it comes to going forward, and that she is easily frustrated if she doesn't score from an easy chance. She's the new captain of the side as part of Holly Jonasson's new-look team project.

CF: Alexandra ROUSSEAU 33 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image (#11)
The height difference between Alex and Chelsea Stuart may be small (just about half an inch or so) but it's enough to make her into the smaller and speedier half of Abanhfleft's forward pairing, even though she's about a few pounds heavier than Chelsea (but don't tell her that). She doesn't accelerate as quickly as other "pacy" forwards, but once she gets going, she goes, and fast. Addie Singh and Lea Choi may be the only ones who could claim to be faster than Alex when she's at full speed, but sometimes a turtle can seem faster when she's "revving up". She can play as lone striker if need be, and indeed played that role for Rosenpfelblatz before the emergence of Karen Villegas, but she truly works best with a strike partner, especially a ridiculously strong (for her build) and physical hold-up expert like Chelsea. Following her revelation that she has been diagnosed with lupus, Alex has been forced onto the Lady Revolutionaries' bench so that she doesn't end up dying on Holly Jonasson's watch.

RESERVES
GK: Stephanie BRYAN 30 y/o, Antslinngs Islands Ladies Image (#13)
Stephanie Bryan finally gets to represent the blue, orange, and green once again after over four years of sitting out due to a new reliance on the likes of Yannie Redborne and Yelena Valinovskaya to ride the bench while Victoria Carter is on form, but with Redborne now retiring from international footie and Valinovskaya recovering from ligament repair surgery, Steph will now get the chance to be seen riding the Fleftic bench once again. But whether she will be the long-term replacement for Carter and the rest is still up in the air as there are more promising keepers out there, at least according to Holly Jonasson.

GK: Ursula QATINTIKI 27 y/o, Crisisbless Athletic Image (Nephara) (#23)
Qatintiki is a ferocious keeper who believes herself to be a good sweeper but unfortunately doesn't have all the necessary skills to be an actual sweeper keeper. Fortunately for her, she's managed to keep 10 clean sheets in the Premier Development League (Ladies' Division) for Sarvusdalamoive Ladies. Unfortunately for her, this performance hasn't carried to her first international call-up in the Sporting World Cup, where she conceded a total of 14 goals in the tournament. But the presence of an experienced back four in front of her could help her concede less in this tournament. Despite being a rapidly rising star in Sarvusdalamoive, Qatintiki opted to cut her contract and sign up for the Pridnestrovian Volunteer Legions in ESTORVIPA. She could actually be charged with treason for fighting for another sovereign nation but the SFA has pulled favors with the Ministry of Justice to delay her trial until the end of the Independents Cup.

RB: Amanda WARREN 32 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies Image (#14)
Amanda is definitely one of the surprise packages of the women's national team's first foray in the World Cup qualifiers as a team. Although this wouldn't come as a surprise for followers of Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies, who know of Godric Wexler's ability to produce world-class players from his team's youth academies. Although obviously she's not yet as world class as Gooners would like people to believe, the potential is there, and regular minutes for both club and country will only help to develop her talent. She finally starts for Abanhfleft thanks to Holly Jonasson's project to create a "new-look" women's team and keeps her spot under Heinrich Wurzmann.

RB: Georgine BAUM 19 y/o, Pascal Mashu Image (Kita-Hinode) (#24)
Another player with foreign roots playing for the Democratic Republic. This time, Georgine's parents are immigrants, or rather expats, from Pridnestrovia, who escaped the country after her father said a few things that were not to President Field Marshal Stepan Stepanenko's liking. Georgine is more than likely to play for Abanhfleft in the future, but stranger things have happened. Arkadia Zubarenko did end up playing for Pridnestrovia after years in Abanhfleft's youth teams. Baum has always played on the left before so seeing her on the right side this time could be a bit of a shock for her but apparently people trust Georgine to hit the ground running after being thrown off the deep end, so....

RCB: Miriam HANNIBAL 34 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Women Image (#15)
Don't let her surname fool you. While she may have the tenacity and patience of a serial killer when it comes to defending, making tackles and chasing loose balls, personally she's a relatable woman who is fun to hang around with, although only her friends are supposed to know that. She's the kind of player that opposing fans love to hate, and Fleftic football fans love it that opposing fans love to hate her. Miriam can play on all sides of the defense, but she prefers the center back position, which she plays to great effect at Marinos Thimpodopoulos Women.

RCB: Catarina SOLER 29 y/o, Keephall Valkyries Image (#25)
Soler has served as a dependable supporting unit for both center-backs, but once again she is a player that is played out of position in most international games that she gets to play. Soler prefers being a true center-back, but that doesn't mean that she shirks from the responsibilities of being a central fullback shifted a little to the right or the left. Soler had a chance to rise up to the senior women's team but a drop in form coinciding with injuries has kept her out of the national team setup until now. Now Catarina wants to prove that she still has what it takes to be an international quality center back.

LCB: Miranda SULLINS 23 y/o, Sporting Ceneisis Women Image (#18)
An exciting prospect if only for the fact that she had gotten herself noticed through the Sporting Ceneisis youth academy, which had been a bit neglected by Artemio Peres in favor of getting players both locally and abroad for as much as his team's Bellinsgauzenian boss is willing to let him spend. Still, it wouldn't do to take away from the fact that she is indeed a good defender, if a bit raw even for the standards of the under-21 teams. And an international call-up such as thing can do no harm to her career. Right?

LCB: Christy SHEPLEY 20 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image (#26)
At 6 feet 2 inches, Christy is already one of the tallest under-21 central defenders ever in the Democratic Republic and its sphere of influence. Coupled with a supernatural defensive ability, it's a wonder why she's still on the bench and not starting, until one realizes that Christy is quite the thin and willowy girl. She's a good defender and good in aerial and dead-ball situations, there's no doubt about that, but she has to bulk up and get stronger if she is to become one of Abanhfleft's best defenders. She remains on the bench to make way for Miranda Sullins and Catarina Soler in this Independents Cup squad.

LB: Tonya HEATON 36 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Women Image (#16)
Tonya is a proper left back who could probably get into the starting eleven of any other team out there, and probably even this team, if only the likes of Claire Osgood and/or Dana Valentine were not available or injured or weren't actually playing football at all. Also, she's one of the few truly ambidextrous football players in the country, which is why she could play in either full back position if something should ever happen to the likes of Dana and Claire and maybe even Amanda. Now she is indeed starting for Abanhfleft after Holly Jonasson's decision to create a new-look team with four at the back.

LB: Claudia ROOS 20 y/o, Dinamo Bender Women Image (Pridnestrovia), on loan from Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies Image (#27)
They once said that Claudia is the player on the under-15 team who is most likely to end up representing another nation once she hits the senior level. Abanhfleft is enjoying Claudia's services while she's still with the team, as she is already turning into a future star winger, what with her pace, crossing ability, and incisive runs into the box. But with Claudia's inclusion into the Independents Cup squad (albeit playing as a fullback to supposedly improve the defensive side of her game), it looks like Abanhfleft has finally secured her for a future spot in the women's national team.

RM: Trinidad KLEIST 21 y/o, Xemlice Rovers Ladies Image (#28)
At such a young age, Trinnie, as she likes to be called, is already developing into a no-nonsense center defensive midfielder, breaking up attacks and stopping counters. Unfortunately, that also means a lot of bookings and the occasional red card for her. Trinnie still has to learn to control herself, and surely she can keep a cool head now that she's playing on the international stage and under great managers in Heinrich Wurzmann and Miriam Whitaker?

CM: Merida VANCE 29 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies Image (#17)
At just the tender age of 23, Merida has turned herself from a lanky and clumsy girl straight out of the academy with a future as a lower-league player into a vital piece of Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies' midfield puzzle, helping the Lady Foresters to both the Ladies' Premier League title and the Women's SFA Cup in the 2014-15 season. Now, two years later, she's still vital to the team then as she is now, and she will serve as a capable backup for her teammate Bella Maynard for the World Cup qualifiers and, if they make it, the World Cup itself.

CM: Stephanie WINTER-SLAUGHTER 22 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Women Image (Fhulghamous Peninsula, playing in the Fleftic Ladies' Premier League) (#30)
Winter-Slaughter's surname sounds rather weird when you consider her biggest asset is an unprecedented sense of justice, but it really is. Winter-Slaughter, while a competent midfielder with enough room to grow, became much more notorious for her actions both in and outside of the field, often helping opponents and team-mates at distress from injuries or pretty much anything else. Conquered some hearts for her kindness, funnily enough. Stephanie was given Fleftic citizenship on the recommendation of Heinrich Wurzmann after the disappearance of the Unified Sunrise Islands so that Abanhfleft could take advantage of her talents.

CM: ERIN Jensdottir-Jennings 25 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image (#31)
We finally come to one of the most controversial additions to Abanhfleft's Independents Cup squad yet. Not a person living in Abanhfleft hasn't heard of the story of Erin Jensdottir and her friend Britt Hanokssen. The two of them had gotten in trouble with an Anglatian gang and their friend Bisera Haralampieva, of Rosen City Ladies and Pridnestrovia women's national team fame, called on another friend of hers to get Erin and Britt out of trouble. They did so by faking Erin and Britt's deaths and substituting them for two dead bodies. Britt and Erin had ended up playing for FC United of Riuwiee in the seventh tier of Fleftic football before they finally came clean about their status, resulting in the biggest ever points deduction in Fleftic football history and a massive settlement package with Hunsen Loggers from United of Riuwiee for both Erin and Britt. Erin is described as the complete playmaker able to operate from deep or right in front with the forwards, which is why Heinrich Wurzmann recommended her naturalization in time for the Independents Cup.

LM: Cecily SEGOVIA 21 y/o, Ladies of Santos FC Image (Oontaz Dert Li Ng), on loan from Riuwiee United Women Image (#29)
CeCe is the foil to Trinidad Kleist's hard-hitting CDM. The Oontaz-born central midfielder is the creative outlet for the midfield, setting up passes and long balls to initiate the attack. But that doesn't mean she shirks from her defensive responsibilities. Still, like Trinnie, CeCe is still a bit enthusiastic with the sliding tackles and will get her name on the referee's notebook a fair few times. Another member of the second-place under-15 team from Schottia who was included in the under-21 team, the Independents Cup team, and now the player pool for the 80th World Cup qualifiers.

RW: Rachel AZUL 32 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies Image (#19)
It's not the Fleftic women's team if it doesn't have two of the most important things in the Fleftic footballing philosophy: wingers and strikers. The starting winger pairing of Addie Singh and Lilly Prescott are backed up by the winger pairing of Rachel Azul and Cecilia Johnson. Rachel is the taller and stronger half of their pairing, and while she's not as fast as Addie and her hold-up play isn't as good as Lilly's, she's still good for peppering the box with crosses for other players to head or volley into the net to close out games, and her height also makes her a threat on the set piece. Even at 26, there's still a lot of potential on tap for her, as evidenced by her move to Arsenal from the Antslinngs Islands alongside CeCe for the princely sum of NS$20m.

RW: Sohaila MAGOMEDOVA 21 y/o, Exiles FK Image (Pridnestrovia) (#32)
The daughter of a Pridnestrovian father and a Nordskanian mother who was born on Fleftic soil, Sohaila is one of Heinrich Wurzmann's latest finds from the Alternative Football Program. Her idols growing up were tricky players like Finn Jameson, Ruud Akinfenyor, and Matthew Cave, and Sohaila certainly has the feet to emulate them. Of course, being young, Sohaila's legs often get away from her and she more than occasionally trips up. But when she gets her moves right, Sohaila is unstoppable.

RW: Elene LINER 19 y/o, Sarvusdalamoive Ladies Image, female (#36)
Even at her young age, Elene already has the look of a future fantastic keeper. Well, what else can be said about the Sarvusdalamoive Football Academy, which has turned out great Fleftic keepers like Maksim Varamoninov and Victoria Carter? Unfortunately, she's slipped down the pecking order, but only because Brook Arzate deserves the chance to start this time. She had a lot to make up for after that emotionally devastating penalty shootout loss against Schottia in the 9th Under-15 World Cup and she ended up not having the mental strength to get over the disappointment of the shootout so she decided to become a striker instead. This way she hopes to emulate some of Abanhfleft's star forwards like Matthew Cave and Ruud Akinfenyor who started off as goalkeepers and then decided to make the move up to the top of the pitch.

CAM: BRITT Hanokssen-Hanks 22 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image (#33)
Erin Jensdottir's best friend and girlfriend, Britt has been called "too ambitious for her own good" by the man who would eventually recommend bringing Britt over to Rosenpfelblatz, Matthew Cave. Britt isn't exactly the best, most mobile, most skillful, fastest, or most accurate player available for the Independents Cup, but she makes up for it in her sheer never-say-die attitude. Other things that other players might consider lost causes are just more challenges for Britt to overcome. That being said, if Britt does end up making an appearance for Abanhfleft, it's probably more out of desperation than anything else. But still, no one knows. Maybe this is the tournament where Britt finally shines bright.

CAM: Prudence WOODWARD 19 y/o, Duhblakk Aztecs Image (#34)
Prudence Woodward is the third and final player of Panemian descent to represent the blue, orange, and green for the Sporting World Cup. She is the younger sister of Julius Woodward and her future appears to be in central attacking midfield. Prudence is already displaying a taste for clever through-balls and occupying pockets of space in which she could create chances and even score a few goals herself. Prudence has also been rumored to be displaying more than just friendly attention and camaraderie with the team's resident lesbian Poppaea Fleet-Street but that's hardly important to the conversation. But although nothing has been confirmed yet, it could be said that it won't be much of a surprise if Prudence came out and admitted that she has a relationship with Poppaea. Also already a mother after an argument with Prudence led to a one-night stand with fellow under-18 teammate Prince William Luckless.

LW: Cecilia JOHNSON 32 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies Image (#20)
Looking at Rachel and CeCe, it's obvious to anyone who does what when they're starting. What she doesn't have in terms of height and strength, CeCe more than makes up for it with her speed, pace and wicked curving kick that, when the wind blows the right way, could result in a goal from literally nowhere. Her long legs have earned her the nickname "Giraffe Girl" even though she's not the tallest player from the Antslinngs Academy of Football or even on the national team, and it's those legs that allow her to cover so much ground in so little time. She is also the greater goalscoring threat from open play, cutting into the box and firing off shots at the net, sometimes to the point of ignoring teammates in better and more viable positions. But she can, and has done so from time to time, made the telling pass that leads to a goal.

LW: Amelie RUSEV 19 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies Image (#35)
Amelie Rusev is the best player on current Fleftic under-18 team after Gareth Williamson. At just 18 years old, she's already looking like the complete winger package. Not only is she both quick and light on her feet and strong in the air and during challenges, she is ambidextrous, able to use both feet to send in long balls and crosses into the box when she wants. With that added crossing ability, Amelie is already on her way to the first team of Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies at such a tender age. Kasper Molak will surely look to make Amelie the successor to Raisa Korovina as the next Miss Ludogorets.

FW: Karen VILLEGAS 29 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image (#21)
It's very rare for someone as short as Karen to be a football player, let alone a striker. But against all odds, not only did she become a good football player, she's also become one of the best players of her generation. Karen was a prodigy even at a very young age, but she nearly ended up not playing football twice: first, when she was shot in the neck (not fatally, thankfully) during the Holy Catholic Revolution of 2008, and second, when the expected growth spurt upon hitting puberty never actually happened. But after seeing the likes of Sonny Torres, Chelsea Stuart and Alex Rousseau succeed at the top flight of women's football in Abanhfleft, she trialled for Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies and was admitted into their academy. Eight years later, Karen is now an international player and Rousseau's striker partner at Rosenpfelblatz.

FW: Zsofia DOLAN 28 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies Image (#22)
Abanhfleft in general, and the city of Markovsky in particular, has always been a melting pot of various cultures, faiths and beliefs, and Sofie is the embodiment of that multicultural spirit. Born and raised in the majority-Russian city of Markovsky to a mixed Hungarian and Irish family, Sofie inherited the hardworking spirit of the two peoples from which she descended, and when many others would have given up and quit, Sofie continued working her way up the ranks of Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies, and she broke through to the first team just in time for the Lady Foresters to achieve the Ladies' Premier League and Women's SFA Cup double. She moved to Lionesses in Armeia as part of the club's rebuilding process, after a plane crash killed most of the players of the old team, and her performances and general hard work have earned her a starting spot in the club.

ST: Kelly McGINNIS 19 y/o, Hoventon & Corlington Town Image (Mercedini) (#12)
Kelly McGinnis could very well be the next Chelsea Stuart. Lord knows she's got the raw talent in her veins and her feet. Her only problem is in getting out of Besanza to continue her development and make sure that it's on the right track to actually making her the next Chelsea Stuart. Kelly wants to move abroad to develop herself in a world-class side, and she believes that the Sporting World Cup is her way to gaining that attention and getting that move abroad. She did well in her first stint abroad, winning a domestic cup with Mercedini's Hoventon & Corlington Town, but another potential loan move to the Gallian Union fell through and she's had to stay with Airbus Besanza for this season. This could very well change though as another opportunity could be opening up for her, but it's going to take her much farther away from the Fhulghamous than just Mercedini....

STADIUMS
All football stadiums in Abanhfleft now have seats following a mandatory upgrade in 2000, but despite this ruling, many, if not all, stadiums still allow standing spectators during matches. However, in anticipation for World Cup qualifying matches, more security forces had been hired by the authorities to make sure that there are no standing spectators in such games.

View this page for a guide to the numerous possible venues for the World Cup qualification in Abanhfleft.

World Cup 80

Sargossa - 'The Corsairs'

Head Coach

Rodrigo Defederico
Former international midfielder he starred in the SuperLiga, before plying his trade in Astograth. A former coach of the Olympic side who led hometown club Dunas Del Sol to the Copa Sargossa final in his first full season in charge.

Backroom Staff

Assistant Head Coach: Raúl Churín
Defensive Coach: Guillermo Lucena
Attacking Coach: Alejandro Tapia
Goalkeeping Coach: Armando Abad
Fitness Coach: Mario Sánchez
Team Doctor: Dr Carla Segura

Talent

GK: 1. Sergio Vega (26) – Dínamo Maturín
Enjoyed another excellent season in the Dínamo goal as Barrios’ former charges finished second. Quick off his line and with superb distribution with both hands and feet. Familiarity may see him just edge out Almirón.
GK: 13. Carlos Ríos (25) – Sportivo Soluca
No one kept more clean sheet in the SuperLiga last season than Ríos. An accomplished practitioner of the ‘Sweeper Keeper’ role that is currently in vogue in Sargossan domestic football.
GK: 25. Francisco Carrasco (27) – Petro Mercada
Injury saw Francisco brought into the Petro side, following three seasons out on loan, and the talented stopper has now established himself as the undisputed number one.

DR: 2. Alonzo Zevallos (22) – Ciudad Soluca
According to the stats Alonzo was the third best performer in the entire SuperLiga last season. A potent weapon down the flank and a formidable dispatcher of a dead ball.
DRC: 5. José Guerrero (25) – Ciudad Soluca
Accused of having a lack of ambition, having stubbornly refused all offers from elsewhere to stay with boyhood club Rubio Bayamo. Until Ciudad came calling and he left one of the top division’s humbler clubs for the capital and an international opportunity.
DC: 6. Alex González (23) – El Nacional
A classy, ball-playing centreback in the classical Gozan model. González has both pace and poise, a combination that has seen him become a firm fan favourite at the Independiente.
DL: 3. Alex Vallejos (26) – Alianza Jucaro
A pacey converted winger whose defensive frailties are countered by the attacking thrust he provides down the left flank.
DLC: 12. Fabián Parra (22) – Dínamo Maturín
Spied by Dínamo scouts plying his trade in the third tier. The rough diamond was polished off with two years on loan in the Segunda with Costa San Verdi and slotted effortlessly into the Dínamo back three this term.
DRC: 14. Jorge Prieto (22) – Sportivo Soluca
Played at fallback in the youth game but since filling out into a six foot frame Jorge has found himself mostly deployed in the centre of defence.
DL: 19. Germán Montero (26) – Dínamo Maturín
Quick, skilful and possessing a wand of a left foot, the wingback was a key part of Barrios’ plans at the Ciudad Deportiva and is expected to take a similar role with the national side.
DC: 21: Sebastián Vegas (21) – Ciudad Soluca
Standing at 6’ 4” Vegas caught the eye last season as a key performer in the Daroca Marinos back line. Performances that earned him a big money move to the capital.
DLC: 26: Andrés Fernández (30) – Ciudad Soluca
Out of form since a move to the capital but provides an experienced backup to the trio of first choice centrebacks who lack international exposure.

MC: 4. Sergio Espina (24) – Alianza Jucaro
A midfielder with tremendous lung capacity. His array of passing helped knit together an Alianza side that put in a surprise title challenge last season.
AMR: 7. Diego Puebla (22) – El Nacional
A converted fallback who led the assist table for much of last season.
MC: 8. Alejandro Vecino (31) – Dínamo Maturín
A youth team star at Sporting San Marquez, the talented playmaker was surprisingly let go by Sporting two years ago. He was snapped up by Dínamo and has become a key figure in their midfield.
AML: 11. Carlos Álvarez (25) – Porto Alegro Azul
The winger is something of a wizard with the ball at his feet, no player made more dribbles in last season’s SuperLiga. But he lacks the delivery to be considered truly world class.
AMRC: 15. Antonio Amaro (26) – Alianza Jucaro
A star winger in the Segunda for Sportivo Torrienté before turning down offers from Ciudad Soluca, Sporting San Marquez and Dínamo Maturín to join hometown club Alianza. He has recently been deployed more centrally, to excellent effect.
MC: 16. Rafael Bustamanté (20) – El Nacional
A young midfield playmaker with a prestigious range of passing. Highly rated at the Independiente after a success season on loan at S.C. Goza.
DMC: 18. Luís Vazquez (23) – Sportivo Cordova
Tireless midfielder battler in the same vein as those previous anchor-men historically produced by our mighty archipelago. Not afraid to take a shot from distance.
DMC: 22. Alejandro Victorino (28) – Ciudad Soluca
Another of those midfield battlers we seem so keen on developing. But unlike some of his illustrious predecessors Victorino also possesses excellent technical abilities, a wide range of passing and isn’t prone to feeling all feint if he stumbles into the opposition half.
AMLC: 24. Alfredo Valenzuela (23) – Dunas Del Sol
A top assist provider in the domestic league and one dangerous crosser of a football. Dunas have been fighting of suitors for the midfielder for years.

FC: 9. Rodrigo Marcellán (26) – Dínamo Maturín
Dínamo reportedly paid Atlético Ensenada what still stands as a record fee for a teenager to capture the signature of Marcellán. Good in the air, good on the ground, strong and able to pick a pass. He scores goals too. Key to how Barrios’ side plays.
FC: 10. Miguel Marí (28) – Dínamo Maturín
An out-and-out forward and proven top flight goalscorer at Estrella Torreón before an injury crisis at El Torrigal saw him drop deeper to excellent effect. Now at Dínamo and equally comfortable at leading the line or ‘in the hole’.
FRC: 17. Iván Mayoral (29) – Alianza Jucaro
Arguably the strongest header of a football in the entire SuperLiga. At 6’3” Mayoral offers a handy ‘hoof it to the big man’ option.
FRC: 20. Matías Cáceres (24) – Porto Alegro Azul
A talented forward who has consistently led the Azul scoring charts since his debut in the team. Azul fans suffer through every transfer window, expecting their star man to leave for greener pastures.
FL: 23. Andrés Saavedra (21) – Estrella Torreón
An out-and-out winger who offers pure pace down the flank. Capable of tying opposition defenders up in knots but often lacking composure in the final third.

Style

Defederico credits former Sargossan great Ernesto Farias for his own tactical approach, a 3-4-3 system with a high defensive line and an emphasis on pressing and harrying the opposition into a mistake. He is also far more attack minded than his predecessor and his players are encouraged to get the ball from front to back at a rapid pace. Long balls are consider anathema, with even the goalkeeper encouraged to slide a pass to the defender rather than hoofing it up field.

The SuperLiga is quite a physical league so challenges can often be described as 'uncompromising' and cards are pretty common. Gamesmanship, while never encouraged, is also not entirely uncommon. But diving is considered particularly stigmatic so Sargossan players are unlikely to be found doing it.

Venues

Estadio Generalissimo Joaquín Delgado
City: Soluca
Capacity: 108,879
Tenants: Ciudad Soluca, Sportivo Soluca
National Team Record: P144 W82 D27 L35
Opponent(s): Brenecia / Olastor

The centrepiece of a major beautification development in the capital, the stadium sits within the Parque De Los Vencedores and alongside the Corazal River. Designed by Nethertopian architect Gert Naamloos and part financed by two SuperLiga clubs, the Sargossan government and Starblaydi sportswear giants ediraf it is a truly magnificent sporting arena. The Estadio Generalissimo Joaquín Delgado, as the ediraf Arena was rechristened when the naming rights deal expired, is the epitome of a modern football stadium. Consequently, it is the national side’s most commonly used venue. Unfortunately, the glamourous surroundings are marred somewhat by the Soluca crowds’ reputation for being both fickle and moody.

Image
Image

Independienté
City: Goza
Capacity: 119,354
Tenants: El Nacional
National Team Record: P20 W12 D5 L3
Opponent(s): Juvencus

The very antithesis to the modern Estadio Generalissimo Joaquín Delgado, and revelling in that fact. The internal facilities may have been kept relatively up to date at the Independienté but little has changed at the vast open bowl since its construction. The nation’s largest sporting venue and one that prides itself on the genuine carnival atmosphere produced on matchdays.

Ciudad Deportiva
City: Maturín
Capacity: 52,000
Tenants: Dínamo Maturín
National Team Record: P17 W15 D1 L1
Opponent(s): Stetzra

Although the name has come to refer to the stadium alone the Ciudad Deportiva is actually a whole site devoted to sporting excellence. Constructed as part of a government drive to boast sport, the site is also home to the national Track and Field Centre of Excellence, an aquatic centre, basketball and volleyball facilities and a state-of-the-art sport science clinic. The stadium itself is an impressive venue that is regularly voted as the top matchday experience by fans in the SuperLiga. The Sargossan record there too is very strong, having dropped points only twice in the seventeen matches played in Maturín over the years.

Estadio Silva
City: San Marquez
Capacity: 62,543
Tenants: Sporting San Marquez
National Team Record: P14 W9 D2 L3
Opponent(s): Lochario

Like the Independienté the Estadio Silva is one of the older venues used by the national side. Set within one of the poorer districts of the eclectic southern city of San Marquez, in amongst the brightly coloured favelas and street vendors, a trip to the stadium is more a cultural experience than a sporting one for the foreign visitor. Some famous nations have taken to the Estadio Silva turf in the past, names such as Sorthern Northland, Candelaria And Marquez and Cassadaigua.

Bonilla Arena
City: Jucaro
Capacity: 74,475
Tenants: Alianza Jucaro
National Team Record: P11 W9 D1 L1
Opponent(s): Tobiasia / New Lusitania and the Algarves

The quintessential rich man’s play thing, Alianza Jucaro are the nearly men of Sargossan domestic football. Bankrolled by the mega-wealthy Bonilla family the club have won three national cup competitions in recent years but have never claimed the league title they so crave. While the Bonillas have thrown money at the playing staff they’ve also invested heavily in infrastructure, including the stadium that bears their name. Set in the South Quays district of the port city, right on the waters of the Bay of Carrasco, it’s an imposing venue for visiting sides.

Estadio Del Sol
City: Dunas
Capacity: 31,359
Tenants: Dunas Del Sol
National Team Record: P4 W4 D0 L0
Opponent(s): Indusse

The resort city of Dunas is a popular haunt for Sargossans and tourists alike, with its good weather, cheap booze and its waterfront of garish attractions. It’s an image the locals aren’t overly fond of which makes their local football team, the city’s other nationally recognised landmark, a source of much pride. The smallest venue used in this World Cup cycle, the Estadio Del Sol is located away from the neon glare of the strips nestled, as it is, in the quieter surrounds of the old town. Two of the previous four matches held in Dunas have seen Sargossa edge seven goal thrillers.

El Torrigal
City: Torreón
Capacity: 30,000
Tenants: Estrella Torreón
National Team Record: P9 W7 D2 L0
Opponent(s): North New South Wales

Having been surprisingly dropped as a venue for the last campaign El Torrigal makes a return to the rotation for the ninth time. In the centre of the university city of Torreón, nestled high up in the Chaloco Mountains, El Torrigal is relatively small but perfectly formed. The Corsairs record in the altitude of their mountain fastness is formidable, with only The Kytler Peninsulae and Polaaskan managing to avoid defeat.

Home Away Third
Modifier: +1

Manager: Mór Császár, age 45
Assistant: Mezei Orbán, age 44

Home Stadium: Stade de Torgos (90,000)

Goalkeepers
GK: Patrik Horčička, age 34, Baskita FC
GK: Thorsten Gerber, age 27, CA Paulinthal
GK: Aswad Munif Shalhoub, age 28, OAS Royal FC Image
GK: Gordana Stanic, age 30, Royal Jam FC Image (F)
GK: Thor Knutsson, age 32, Hellinic Rouge

There's been a bit of shakeup at the keeper position, with Shalhoub losing his number spot and in fact is now third in the picking after a pair of woeful seasons at Royal, letting far too many goals for the former young starlet to keep the spot. The surprise is the return of Patrik Horčička to the pool and straight into the number one kit after a pair of spectacular seasons with Baskita, helping secure their back to back SuperLiga titles with phenomenal performances between the woodwork. Stanic is a good second choice, while the relief will come to many people across the nation and in particular Paulinthal as Thorsten Gerber has at long last been deemed worthy of being called up into the pool, though how many appearances the former DBC winner will get is quite the conundrum, with the other players that are ahead of him in the choosing.

Defenders
LB: Juhana Jäntti, age 28, Sabrefell Athletic Image (F)
LB: Kristian Friedmann, age 30, IFK Aldenskoett Image
LB: Jana Matić, age 30, Stilinkeep FC (F)
CB: Neci Földessy, age 26, CA Paulinthal
CB: Christopher Fosse, age 30, OAS Royal FC Image
CB: Ante Ivanec, age 32, RGS Athletic Image
CB: Ralf Bader, age 22, Directus Image
CB: Þorvaldur Oddsson, age 32, Hellinic Rouge
CB: Wolfgang Wefel, age 28, Sebio City Image
RB: Szilvia Benkó, age 28, VLC FC Image (F)
RB: Dirk Freitag, age 25, Falourr Image
RB: Linka Polak, age 22, Baskita FC (F)

In theory, this should be a rather good crop of defenders for the Wanderers with a decent mixture of veteran leadership and youthful optimism, though as has been seen in the last two qualifiers and in the DBCs, appearances can be deceiving. It is a strange occurrence that Oddsson has been one of the best defenders in the SuperLiga for the last decade but looks average at best for the national team. Hopefully the inclusion of CAP's Neci Földessy, who has recently really started to come into their own as the eldest of the Földessy brothers, will push Oddsson to play at the same caliber for the national team as he does for his club team. The leftback spot continues to be a bit of a both, though Jana Matić has been a stellar force for Stilinkeep's gritty defensive unit the last two years and may well be a good stop gap until some of the younger prospects come into their own, but it is likely that Friedmann will continue to carry the burden of that position of the backline, while the right side has a trio of good but not amazing players who can slot in and do their job at a moment's notice, though Polak may be favored after her performances in domestic play and being the youngest of the options.

Midfielders

RW: Fjóla Sigurjónsdóttir, age 28, Samaj FC Image (F)
RW: Vojnomir Jovanović, age 30, Hellinic Rouge
RW: Ádám Berecz, age 20, Baskita FC
A/MC: Jörg Feierabend, age 25, CA Paulinthal
MC: Tar Hunor, age 28, AC Izotz Zubia Image
MC: Jürgen Eisenhower, age 26, Revolutionaires Image
MC: Gamal Kadeer Haik, age 28, Stein-los Turkish
MC: Sophie Nagel, age 21, Lunas FC (F)
A/MC: Stéphane Couturier, age 28, Sebio City Image
LW: Dominik Krause, age 28, Ulsa Image
LW: Orsolya Gere, age 22, Baskita FC
AML/LW: Kati Szöllôsy, age 23, Tanrısal (F)

Jörg Feierabend has been everything everyone has ever dreamed of and it is a darn shame that the young midfielder has not yet had a chance to taste international success with the squad. Between him and Hunor, the center of the park is a very secure position, and the backups of Eisenhower, Haik, and Couturier should all maintain the highest of standards that is expected of the midfield pairing, which is typically the Wanderer's strongest position. Out of the wing, Krause has been able to make a name for himself after his move over into Eura and will look to showcase the extra skill and determination that he has picked up in playing in that league, while Fjóla has become something of a superstar in Cosumar and is a near automatic choice on that right hand side. Ádám Berecz has capitalized on his DBC winning performances and his showing with Baskita to be called up and is Mór's favored second option on that side based on what we've seen from training scrimmages.

Strikers

ST: Ingþór Auðbjörnsson, age 28, AC Izotz Zubia Image
ST: Alexander Kárpáty, age 23, Mallox Image
ST: Maiten Matos Galindo, age 30, Santos Luega (F)
ST: Taj Zayn Bazzi, age 28, Ausharmuj Marusi Image
ST: Mücahit Aardenburg, age 22, Club Stein-los
AMC/ST: Alexander Jager, age 20, Revolutionaries Image

If there is a position that the Wanderers are spoiled for choice at, it is their striking corps, with ten players currently playing who all think that they have a good case for being part of the national team pool, unfortunately there is just not enough spots for them all to make it. Thor is one of the best, if not the very best, striker in the world right now and it would be impossible to think that the Zozi striker wont play in any game unless injured or the manager thinks one of the other options deserves a shot. Alexander Kárpáty has lit up the Cosumar league on fire in the past two seasons, including helping Mallox secure a very unlikely title, so he gets the nod to be Thor's partner. Alexander Jager nearly single handidly lifted the U21 team into the championship in the last DBC, and though there are rumors that the striker will be on the move in the next transfer window, his play for Dwile and the Young Wanderers has finally warranted his call up, as has Mücahit Aardenburg, though the latter's potential to be a dominant striker is not quite as high as the former's. All that being said, this is a very strong group, and should be creating plenty of scoring chances, the question will be if they can start converting those chances at a better rate than they did the last cycle, and show title pedigree that the squad used to have.

Formation And Tactics
Image

Mór Császár takes the reigns now and not much will really change on the surface, with the former Wanderers' midfielder using what appears to most people as the typical Pasargan 4-4-2, the most common formation played and employed by Pasargan managers. However in his take on the formation, the roles are more defined and the way he plays his two in the center of the midfield actually plays more like a diamond in the middle, though that is likely due to the sheer attacking talent that Feierabend possesses and his preferred playing as a more attacking midfielder. Unlike Tobias who wanted his fullbacks to get up into the attack when possible, Mór wants them to stay back, though he does want his backline to play relatively high and press in the opposition when the squad is out of possession. This allows the wingers to dedicate more into the attack and get good service into the plethora of good attackers who should be ready to convert at a moments notice inside the box.

Mattijanan Roster and Information for World Cup 80

The Story So Far

Following his integration into the Mattijanan international setup just before World Cup 79, new manager Dušan Vukoja led his side to their best ever World Cup qualifying finish with a 5th place in the group and a record 26 points, including 8 victories. Despite a early charge where qualification was far a while on the cards, the team went off the boil late in the period, but beat Platerdam 4-0 on the final day of competition to end the cycle on a high.

From there, it was on to Banija for the 21st Campionato Esportiva. Hopes were high following a third place on home soil at the 20th event and having negotiated the group stage, a 3-2 win over South Covello, probably the greatest Mattijanan win of all time, and another 2-3 win against hosts Fhulgamous Peninsula got them into the semi-finals.

A 1-0 extra time loss to Filindostan would relegate them to the 3rd place playoff, but the same result in their favour against Islana Lunigo sealed a second consecutive bronze.

The next tournament was a development one in South Toronto, with a development team from Mattijana to go with it. This time the team didn't fare so well, failing to escape the group and only taking two draws home with them. That led to the first team squad ultimately being restored rather than promotions from the fringe and Under 23s being brought in and it is hoped that the team will return to winning ways during their qualifying campaign for World Cup 80.

Team Info

World Rank: 72
Style Modifier= +3
National Association: MattijanaFusbalBand (MFB)
Kits: Image
Formation:

Head Coach: Dusan Vukoja
Appointed manager around a month before his first game in charge, Vukoja left Division 1 side FK Puljanka for the National team job, having recorded the club’s best finish in 10 years with 5th, behind only Burges, the two Petrovijanka clubs and FK Revinka. The south-Mattijanan had previously spent time at FK Burges both as assistant and full-time manager after a spell at lower-table side Jamas, where he succeeded in rescuing the team from almost imminent relegation. Now aged 40, Vukoja did not enjoy a lengthy playing career due to injury, but says that coaching is his real passion.
With Ljubanik’s style of play turning increasingly turgid and results also suffering, the Mattijanan FA and fans decided to seek a more exciting brand of football that had been on show at Puljanka in their 5th-place success last season. However the pressure was on the new man to deliver both results and more exciting football.

Assistant Manager: Dominik Samikov (FK Burges)

The assistant manager at Championship leaders FK Burges hails from the North-East of Mattijana and began his career at Dinamo Legisaw, another division 2 side before then moving as one of the tactical staff to FK Burges, where he has since worked his way up the pecking order to assistant manager. He has an excellent tactical mind as well as good player welfare skills and helps out Ljubanik in both management areas. He has so far proved himself to be a capable aid.

Head Scout: Marcel Kuzbacher

Marcel Kuzbacher is a seasoned scout, mainly plying his trade for the famed Puljanka Academy. He has links with numerous players in the Mattijanan squad as well as the under-21 side and makes up the 3-man selection panel alongside Samikov and Ljubanik.

Fitness Coordinator: Jelena Neumanič

Jelena Neumanič is responsible for the diet and fitness of the squad, freeing up the main management team to think about tactical matters. She has a solid variety of exercises and is well-known for getting on player's backs if they don't keep up with their expected effort levels.

Psychologist: Samira Kazmir

Samira Kazmir is an experienced sports psychologist who has done work for both the summer and winter Olympic teams, the Mattijanan ITT side and the MRT motor racing team. She is responsible for the mental welfare of players, stretching from the collective mind-set to more personal issues for each individual in the squad. It's a far-reaching and often complicated task.

The Medical Team:

Head Doctor: Dr Charlotte Smitič
Assistant Doctor: Dr Mattias Buranov
Physio: Martina Laramazič
Physio: Mika Glasnić

The Players:
GK-Lucija Handanovic-#12-Age 26-FK Revinka
Understudy to Matej Handanovic for most of Ljubanik’s tenure, Lucija is favourite to start between the sticks for Mattijana in the upcoming qualifiers. The 25 year old has impressed for club side Revinka in the recent season with both solid performances and heroic clean-sheets and will be tricky to keep out of a starting place.

LB-Helena Neumann-#2

The Burges Player is a regular in the championship leading side and will provide a good defensive option with the occasional run forward to help out the wingers. Barring any injuries or unlikely suspensions, she will play all of Mattijana's matches,

CB-Edvard Crajasović-#3

The towering centre back is a regular for a Revinka side currently sitting fourth in the division 1 table. His height gives him a significant advantage when defending high balls and presents a threat at set-pieces. However, he can be clumsy when faced with skilful runners and does rely on a more quick-footed defensive partner in order to be successful.

CB-Katija Burnisevič-#4-Captain

Another Burges Player, Burnisevič is a potential answer to Crajasović's clumsiness and is a quick, skilful and sure-footed player capable of taking the fight to those attempting to run through. She is a dedicated player, happy to chase any lost cause until the ball crosses the line. Her lack of physical strength may be her weakness however and she could be a potential target for more powerful strikers.

RB-Dominik Illisević-#5

Now a regular for FK Puljanka, Illisević is a punchy and pacey player with outstanding fitness and good crossing ability. His defensive technique is the biggest question mark, but if he can have a solid match at the back, he will undoubtedly be a danger coming forward.

LM-Sofiane Bisrali-#6
From the less familiar setting of Shalkar in the South-East, Bisrali has the pace and skill that Vukoja is looking for in his wingers. Replacing the mercurial Sophia Velezia in the starting line-up, the 22 year old has a lot to live up to early in his career, but has the chance to do it on the biggest stage.

CM-Marko Hojbjerg-#7

Another young midfielder at just 25, Hojbjerg is a playmaker with good awareness and passing ability and is the perfect fit for Ljubanik's technical brand of football. Useful for connecting the more attacking players ahead of him, he is also integral in providing the start or the killer pass in a counter-attack. When no forward options are available, he's not afraid to hit one and occasionally finds the back of the net from improbable ranges.

CM-Katarina Jakupovic-#15
Captain of Mattijana’s under-23 side, Jakupovic is a part of Vukoja’s turn to a more attractive style with Jago Adrianov, the midfield enforcer out and the instinctive passer promoted to a starting role. The 23 year-old Snezn player has impressed with both her technique and maturity in the early years of her career and is touted as a future Mattijanan captain after a successful run in the Under-23s.

RM-Jessika Struna-#9

A pacey winger who's preferred play is to make a run and then a cross, the 26 year old Struna is a dynamic and different part of the Mattijanan team. Tipped for a move to Petrovijanka or Burges, Struna chose to stay at Revinka, close to her family and in the town she loves.

FW-Mathilde Lekarisa-#10

Rapid Petrovijanka's 28 year old forward is a lethal finisher with a left foot that makes up for a lack of power with high precision. She enjoys running onto through balls and cutting inside to curl shots into the far corners of the goal. She is expected to play well having scored 5 goals in her last 4 games for Rapid.

FW-Andreas Weiss-#11

The 30 year old Burges Striker has been a fixture in the Mattijanan team for a while now and has matched his performances for the national side with consistent scoring form for FK Burges. He is a poacher with the ability to be in the right place at the right time for any pull-back into the box. Also a good header of the ball, Weiss will be an intimidating target for high crosses if the Mattijanan plan-B is needed.

The Bench:
GK-Matej Handanović-#1
The 29 year old Mattijanan number 1 plays under Matej Ljubanik at FK Petrovijanka and has been a solid, if unspectacular option between the sticks for most of his career. He has good handling skills and makes few mistakes, but could be replaced if he fails to make the spectacular stops expected of him. He may also face renewed competition from the younger and more dynamic Martin Vaskaric.

RB-Kevin Krychowiak-#13-Age 22-Matbirjke
Another promotion from the under 23s, Krychowiak is a typical modern full-back with his pace and attacking mindset. It is his similarity to current starter Dominik Illisević that keeps him on the bench for now, but he is in Dušan Vukoja's plans this cycle both off the bench and perhaps even to start in games against lower-ranked opponents.

CB- Rikard Illicić-#14
The first Mattijanan player to move abroad, specifically to the top dovision in Buyan, Illicić is widely expected to replace Edvard Crajasović in the starting lineup on the retirement of the current first choice centre back. He is modelled in a similar style as his older counterpart too. He's big, he's strong and despite being slower than other defenders, he is able to stamp his authority on attackers. Expect him to start matches, particularly against lower-ranked opposition.

CM-Jago Adrianov-#8
Adrianov is the typical midfield enforcer with a hard tackle and a driving run on him which can terrorise both attackers and other midfielders. He's also not afraid to hit one from range with varying success. He is probably the most likely player to pick up cards however, so could be a potential liability. This will most likely be the 34 year old's final world cup cycle, with retirement announced for after the tounament.

LM-Sophia Velezia-#16
A mazy winger with less raw pace, but the ability to turn any defender into a messy knot, Velezia is a constant challenge to keep quiet on her day and normally gets through at some point if she hits top form. Her mercurial nature is her biggest and arguably only weakness, but Mattijana will be well-placed if she can get it together.

CAM-Mattias Hoffman-#22-Age 24-Rapid Petrovijanka
Hoffman established himself as an impact player during the 79th cycle, scoring twice from the bench and making a substitute appearance in 15 of the 18 games. He offers a dynamic and direct approach when required and has cut open tired defences on a number of occasions. His consistency across longer periods has so far kept him out of the first team, but he remains a very useful and versatile player for Vukoja.

ST-Daniella Alaba-#18-Age 26-Puljanka
It is difficult to tell where Alaba's strengths really lie as she is relatively quick, but not lightening fast and despite good strength, she is no match for more bulky defenders. Where she is effective is as a goal poacher, using positioning to find space to latch onto crosses and loose balls from fairly close range.

The Reserves:

GK-Martin Vaskaric-#19-Age 22-FK Antalja
LB-Lara Ljunavic-#20-Age 28-FK Revinka
FW- Kara Lorenzič, age 22, Matbirjke
CAM-Juliana Kjofmann-#24-Age 24-Weststrand FK

About Mattijana!

Mattijana is a large safe nation in Esportiva with a significant, but proportionate population. It spans a fairly large range of climates with the far north a colder area, the central region temperate, the south Mediteranean and the South-East semi-desert. Petrovijanka, the setting for this competition, is located almost exactly in the centre of the country at 214-232 metres above sea level. It has summer highs of around 28°C and lows of -5°C in the winter. There is a high level of sunshine for most of the year with precipitation mostly snowfall in the winter months.

Culturally, Mattijana can also be divided into six regions. The West of the country is largely Germanic whilst the centre North is a mix of Slavic and Germanic cultures, centred around Mattijana's second city, Burges. The North and East are more Scandinavian and speak Dansk, a language similar to Danish. The Centre (where Petrovijanka is situated) and the South are Slavic (similar to the Slovenian and Croatian cultures). There is an Arabic community in the South-East.

All Mattijanans speak the official language, Mattijanan. However, due to this not being spoken anywhere else in the World, English and German are well-spoken throughout the country whilst Arabic is taken on by the most intelligent students (in addition to English and German) as well as by those in the South-East.
There is no official religion in Mattijana due to this mix of cultures. Islam is popular in the South-East and parts of the South whilst some in the East follow the Mattijanan Orthodox church. Most people hold no religious belief, but believe in the universal philosophy of being kind, welcoming and helpful to others, known nationally as Jelenara. Even in religious communities, it is these principals that are most talked of with religious figures used to preach them.
Due to the mix/match nature of Mattijanan cultures and these philosophies, religious symbols are uncommon and religious tolerance is very high.

Attitudes to drink and sex are fairly liberal whilst there is good gender, sexual and racial equality. Social mobility is also good and the rich earn only twice as much as the poorest. Cannabis and similar recreational drugs are banned by law, with cannabis also forbidden for medical use.

The government follows mildly socialist policies meaning the tax rate is fairly high, but schools, hospitals and other public services are all well-funded and either free or reasonably-priced. Taxes on large businesses are higher than on small ones. The government building is the MattiStaja, which is situated on Staja square in the centre of Petrovijanka. All six regions have their own smaller congresses however. Politicians are generally appreciated and although public decisions are limited to elections and important political decisions where the main population is the most affected, most citizens feel well represented due to the numerous meeting and discussion opportunities with their local politician.
All parties follow a similar philosophy, but mainly disagree on where to fund the most. The MattijanaLeušaBuro is the current elected party and have an emphasis on public services, but other popular parties are the ViroBuro (who generally promote the needs of the environment) and the NašinalBuro (who promote funding for employment opportunities).

National Stadia

Due to a large land mass and numerous good quality stadia, the Mattijanan FA prefers to rotate games around a few different grounds. Having said that, the Stadijo Nasinal and the Stadijo Dinamov play host to the bulk of the matches due to the central position of Burges and Petrovijanka, their size and their reputation for providing excellent hosting services.

Stadijo Dinamov
Image
The Stadijo Dinamov in Petrovijanka is the second biggest football stadium in Mattijana and is one of the five stadiums that share the hosting honours for international matches. It is used on a weekly basis by FK Petrovijanka, Matej Ljubanik's old club, having built by them in 1940 and upgraded twice in 1972 and 2001. The capacity is 60,000.
The stadium is found to the north of the city's old town.

Stadijo Nasinal-Burges
Image
The Stadijo Nasinal is Mattijana's largest multi-purpose sports stadium with retractable grass and astroturf surfaces to cater for cater for Cricket, Hockey, Rugby and Football matches. There is a capacity of 90,000. The Stadium was built in 1985 and heavily upgraded just 4 years ago in preparation for the Cricket T20 World Cup. It is situated on the South bank of the Juliana river, just next to the water and just East of the NordesParke.

Stadijo Snezn:
Image
City: Snezn
Capacity: 37,000
Club residents: FK Snezn
Location: Western Snezn, not far from the old town.
Transport: 10-15 minutes walk from central Snezn, 10 minutes cycle. S3 tram or B3 Bus routes.

The Stadijo Snezn is situated in Mattijana's most northernmost city and is a more modern ground, with a generic rectangular shape and fairly modest capacity. This feature however makes it very accessible and easy to use, so a match here should be a reasonably comfortable experience, despite the cold. The stadium was built around 15 years ago, by owners FK Snezn.

Stadijo Katarina Zafarova:
Image
City: Revinka
Capacity: 30,000
Club residents: FK Revinka
Location: Coast, Eastern Revinka
Transport: S2 Tram route, 20 minute walk/10 minute cycle from city centre.

Another modern multi-purpose stadium, Revinka's regular evening thunderstorms mean that a roof has recently been added to the stadium to make for all-weather events. The stadium is already used for Hockey, rugby, football and handball and is named after Revinka and Mattijanan national Hockey captain Katarina Zafarova.

Garijo Ales Struna:
Image
City: Puljanka
Capacity: 40,000
Club residents: FK Puljanka
Location: Garijo Struna, north-west Puljanka
Transport: 10 minute walk/5 minute cycle from City centre. S11 Tram route.

An older, but very traditional stadium in a park just north-east of Puljanka's centre, the ground has progressed from humble beginnings as a playing field to one of the most recognisable stadiums in the country.
The ground has been upgraded in accordance with Mattijanan FA rules, but still retains much of its old history and is a beautiful place to watch a game. The most distinctive features are the arches spanning the length of the North and South stands.

WesterStadion:
Image
City: WestStrand
Capacity: 70,000
Club Residents: Weststrand FK
Location: Northern Weststrand
Transport: 10 minutes on foot from Weststrand city centre and main train station. B1 bus route from city centre.

One of the newest stadiums in Mattijana, the Westerstadion was built to reflect its resident's consolidation of a place in the Mattijanan premier league, which gave the club enough funds to move out of a small and battered old ground into a shining new 70,000 capacity creation on part of a former park in the north of Weststrand.
The ground is used almost exclusively for football, although there is talk of rugby also being allowed to take place at the ground. The stadium's modernity means it is accessible and comfortable.

Around Weststrand:
The most Germanic of Mattijana's cities, Weststrand is situated on the west coast of the country and is part of a more rugged section of coastline extending for hundreds of kilometres. As a result, the weather is generally windier than in most locations, with rain coming off the sea regularly.
The town itself has a more colonial feel to it, with imposing buildings on the seafront giving way to narrow, but buzzing backstreets containing a number of quirky independent shops. Watersports are also popular in the area. Cuisine is largely seafood-based, with mussels a very popular choice in the region.

Long Distance Travel:

International airports are found in Burges, Revinka and Petrovijanka, with some Esportivan flights also heading to Snezn. Shuttle underground trains from airports to corresponding city centres will be subsidised for the duration of the tournament. High speed rail links extend between all cities and airports, making travel to Puljanka and Snezn also relatively painless. There are express services between Petrovijanka and Burges, Burges and Snezn, and Revinka and Puljanka.
Those from reasonably local countries looking to travel to Revinka or Snezn may wish to consider travel by sea. Both cities have good ferry ports and road and underground links to the city centres they serve.

LLAMANEAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL ROSTER - WORLD CUP 80

Another year, another last-day elimination in the group stage of WC79. Still, Curtis Steeling has been universally praised for what he’s done with this Tigers team - three straight qualifications for the first time ever and an admittedly poorly-defended regional throne. But he still hasn’t made the promised land of the last sixteen - and although the LFA still supports him entirely, time is running out.

Style Modifier: 0
Team Nickname: The Tigers
Manager: Curtis Steeling
RP Permissions: Don’t kill/injure for life, TG if unsure about godmodding.
Llamaneans tend not to rack up cards/get in fights.

First-Choice Starting Lineup (4-3-3): Sheffield; Svensson, Lindberg, Rodrigues, Van Dijk; Møller, Vesely, Bao; Velasquez, Penbrooke, Vincent

Steeling’s tactics have changed direction since his appointment to manage the Llamanean national team, adopting a new tactical scheme coined by the media as 'explosive football'. It is a policy which now includes 4 players at the back, rather than 5. A more possessive style of football is played, with a focus still on defence, but the team has more of a policy of keeping the ball than before, passing it around the back. The team will have sudden (explosive) bursts of attacks, where they will advance quickly on the opposition in phases, and get a load of shots at once, overloading the defence of the opposition team, before referring back to their original, more defensive format. Counter-attacks are also used occasionally as a viable form of attack when out of possession and when being rapidly attacked when the chance arises, but the team is a much more possessive, pass around the team, slowly work their way to a goal style of play.

Bernholm, while not an acrobatic shot-stopper, is a solid keeper who rarely makes mistakes, is strong aerially (not just because of his imposing height), and is known for being a strong locker-room presence who leaves everything on the field. Strong with distribution and a consistently decent keeper, but overtaken by Sheffield’s play.
#13 - Markus SHEFFIELD - Chenoweth Harriers (NPH) - 31
Known for being able to stop a disproportionate amount of penalties, Sheffield is very athletic. Still extremely aggressive, but rounded out a bit in Chromatika over two seasons with Depri Sanar before being forced out of the nation. He’s landed on his feet, however, and in the Nepharim leagues, where he’s thrived in the more aggressive league. Once again, he’s expected to start as he continues to develop into one of the best Llamanean keepers ever to wear the jersey.
#23 - Marcos SANTANA - Emerald City Harmony - 23
Possibly Super-Llamaland’s next starting keeper, Marcos Santana is an immense talent - well-known for his distribution, and an athletic shot-stopper who’s beginning to cut down on his mistakes. Harmony may not be the best place to develop him as a defensive leader with its current instability, and he’s rumored to be going abroad soon - he’ll have no shortage of suitors with his potential.
#34 - Maria KOVACIC - AFC Corvistone (NPH) - 27
A modern goalkeeper known for her flashy reflex-saves and athleticism, a solid season with the First Division’s AFC Corvistone has launched her from relative obscurity in the Askari league to her first callup - and, shortly thereafter, a first season in the Nepharim Premiership.
#45 - Erika BLANTON - Northern Union (BRE) - 32
A polarizing but undoubtedly talented shot-stopper, but whose reputation for being a poor leader, overly aggressive, and a mediocre distributor - questionable as it might be - precedes her in the SuperLleague. As a result, she’s gone abroad - and had a fair amount of success with newly-reincarnated Northern Union in the Brenecian A-League. A dark horse to win back a spot on the final 23.

#02 - CB - Adrian LINDBERG - Real Azuris (COS) - 35 [C]
Captain. Leader. Champion’s Cup winner with Real Azuris. Adrian Lindberg has quickly become one of the best Llamanean players in the world - a strong part of a Champion’s Cup Winner’s defense in his prime. However, with his athleticism dwindling, he’s been forced to adapt to a new position - as a ball-playing center-back - and rely on his wits, vision, and leadership (all excellent) to carry him.
#03 - RCB/DM - Georgia RODRIGUES - Creed United (NPH) - 26
Rodrigues is as talented, athletic, and versatile as ever despite the removal of foreigners from the Chromatik leagues and the shutdown of the Transtopian leagues. Her stamina and positioning mean she can play both as a marauding right-back, a sweeper, or a defensive-midfielder. Now thriving in the Nepharim Premiership, Rodrigues is seriously beginning to challenge for a starting spot.
#06 - CB - Emily YNOA - Morningstar (NPH) - 30
A quick, classy center-back who's willing to sacrifice her body to stop shots and make tackles. A smart player with strong positioning and a knack for anticipating passes. Also a strong man-marker, and a strong positional fit for Explosive Football. However, her star is starting to fade in the Premiership after suffering consecutive relegations with Brookford and Morningstar, and with Rodrigues’ ascension, Emily Ynoa could see big changes in her future.
#12 - CB - Elisa LUNDIN - Easthaven Centurion - 25
An excellent, if not particularly athletic, defender in the Lindberg as center-back mold, Lundin is known for her dangerous passing range - although her accuracy is still improving - and defensive composure. A key reason why Easthaven didn’t get relegated last season.
#14 - LB - Luke SVENSSON - Lammerton (SCH) - 26
Exceptionally athletic and even more polished than he was as a teenager starting for the Tigers, Svensson is widely expected to start this World Cup cycle. Despite some doubts over whether he could stand up to the pressure, Svensson has entrenched himself into Lammerton's starting lineup as a dangerous two-way fullback with his athleticism, finesse, and composure.
#16 - RB - Francesca ABEL - Diamondqueen (NPH) - 26
Came out of nowhere to become one of Harmony’s best players at right wingback before leaving for Nephara. More conservative and defensive-minded than Van Dijk, her competition for a starting spot, but an excellent defender whose passing makes her invaluable to Steeling’s Explosive Football.
#20 - L/RB - Kris STRAUSBERG - Emerald City Harmony - 33
Kris Strausberg is an exceptionally unique player. For one thing, after a horrific bus crash suffered when he was sixteen, he no longer has a left arm. For another thing, he’s extremely fast, but tends to leverage this into making bold runs up either flank rather than actually keeping up with the opponent's’ attackers. Still, his strong on-ball play and passable marking make him a valuable asset.
#24 - L/CB - Emily GUSTAV - Viztourzys Kolektyvinis (BYN) - 22
A fairly polished defender who’s managed to break into the first team of Harmony - the owner of the best defense in SuperLleague - at a very young age. Capable of going forwards as well, although she can’t do much in the air. A strong candidate to replace Adrian Lindberg as left-back or center-back, but she’ll have a lot of competition to fight off.
#26 - DF - Chris MYERS-BRIGGS - AFC Ruby - 27
Just like everyone else with that last name, Chris Myers-Briggs is a solid, versatile defender who’s done fairly well playing with an unheralded domestic club.
#27 - RB - Jonathan VAN DIJK - FC Endeavor (APX) - 24
Van Dijk showed immense potential at the Di Bradini Cup, his speed and agility enabling him to bomb forwards and embarrass opposing players who try to stop him, and he’s solid defensively too. Shocked everyone with a move to Apox, and continued to stun by being named to the league’s team of the season. Now the favorite to start.
#46 - L/RB - Troy BRADLEE - BSC Vargas - 28

#05 - DM - Matthias KIRCHNER - University of Vargas - 18

#08 - CM - Damian BAO - Anmen Athletic - 22
The youth team revelation is absolutely tireless, but at the same time is one of the fastest players on the team. His positioning and vision make him an expert at filling the role Ryan Reagan wanted him to fill for the U21s, but his penchant for landing accurate long-passes and his athleticism will make him a perfect fit for Explosive Football as well. Has made the jump to a starting spot, and seriously impressed at CE20 and during qualifiers.
#17 - CM - Jason SANTANA - BSC Vargas - 31
Santana has had his share of issues off the field. However, he seems to have recovered from a brief bout with drug addiction and his best days are still ahead of him. A somewhat quick, technically adept midfielder whose calling card is his stamina and strong positioning. Could get a shot at a starting position, but he’ll need to work even harder for it.
#18 - DM - Nemanja VESELY - Somer City and Surrounds (ETM) - 35
The six-six but agile Vesely was a basketball prospect until fourteen, when he picked up a second sport over frustration from not being picked for the highest-caliber youth basketball team in the nation. Quick-tempered and volatile, but athletic, a strong passer, and dangerous on set pieces, the experienced midfielder’s calmed down a lot with Somer City.
#20 - CAM - Trevor FOURNIER - Emerald City Harmony - 28
For much of SuperLleague 1, with the team's starting strikers both out to injury, Fournier managed to take a leap nobody imagined would come so soon and bloom into a complete offensive player. The athletic, six-three Harmony star developed a powerful shot from distance and increased technique. Relied on muscling past shorter defenders at the club level, but will need to rely more on his decent-enough dribbling to make the final 23.
#21 - CM/CAM/RW - Elias MØLLER - Samaj FC (COS) - 24
While Möller is half-Llamanean, nobody expected the young ex-Dinamo star to play for anyone but the Arondic national team, making his call up a huge surprise. It could be important, too - the youngster has already shown flashes of brilliance both as a winger and an advanced playmaker, and he possesses both strength and speed in buckets. Still a little bit raw, especially with his finishing, but rapidly becoming a star. His athleticism and creativity have launched him into the starting lineup at 21.
#28 - CDM - Ryan CARMICHAEL - New Llama Stars - 32
A solid holding midfielder who's lost much of the athleticism that got him onto the U21 team but not the passing range and field vision that make him an attacking threat even as a holding midfielder. A decent ball-winner with strong positioning, but he won't offer much in either box. After a decent stint abroad with Pelethas, Carmichael steadied his career with a great season with the Stars.
#39 - CDM - Leonard ABEL - IFK Aldenskoett (COS) - 24
A solid holding midfielder and former U21. Very polished and an adept ball-winner and defensive midfielder, but he won’t do much offensively outside of set-pieces. Made a low-key but important move to Cosumar this season.
#40 - CM - Stefan RINALDI - Exton FC (APX) - 27
Rinaldi hasn’t managed to make the next step and become a consistent star for club or country, and he may regret his decision to leave Kyrinson for the Stars. No matter how dubious his work-rate though, he has a unique ability to scan an opposing defense and make the perfect pass, although he’s poor under pressure and best deployed in a slower-paced match, and his career seems to have been revived by a late move to Apox.

#07 - LW/LM - Eva VELASQUEZ - Eastweald (COS) - 29
Velasquez is fast, agile, and possesses impeccable technique. However, while one would expect Velasquez, who trained in AC Bartolome's academy for three years, to adopt a flashier playstyle, she's instead far more direct and focused - although she can use tricks to get out of a pinch, she'll rarely use them if she doesn't have to. A decent distributor who developed a fantastic free-kick at Myana before making the move to Eastweald, where she’s now reaching her peak as a winger.
#9 - ST - Sophia TREVELYAN - Klyde (COS) - 30
Trevelyan made history in 2014 by becoming the first Eastham-born (she has dual citizenship) woman to play in Eastham’s top tier, IslandLeague One, and since then she’s excelled at every challenge she’s faced. A strong playmaker from everywhere on the pitch, quick and agile enough to set up her own chances; decent enough at finishing to score off said chances, but also versatile enough to play as a False Nine. Easily the most underrated player on this roster.
#10 - ST - Ansel PENBROOKE - Bishop (NPH) - 32 [VC]
Considered the heir to Cartwright’s throne, Penbrooke has set milestone after milestone. Patistan offered him forty million dollars and he declined to head over to one of the best youth teams in the world. Penbrooke is very athletic, and maturation in Apox, Vilita, and now Nephara have turned his potential and talent into a top-notch striker. Expected to continue leading the line for years to come.
#11 - AM/RW - Miroslav VOROBYOV - FC Samotath (COS) - 35
Vorobyov has excelled in Cosumar with Samotath, and his quick, incisive presence, intelligence with the ball, and ability to break defenses with his runs makes him best on the flanks or as a WC74 Felix Rasmussen-esque free-floating CAM. Not very strong, but exceptionally agile and creative, and his thin frame hides a fierce long-distance shot.
#18 - L/RW - Annalisa SIGURDSSON - New Llama Stars - 26
It’s taken him a while, but Steeling has finally found Eva Velasquez a backup in Annalisa Sigurdsson. A direct, incisive winger who can play on either wing, Sigurdsson is best-known for her free-kick prowess. Definitely has enough quality to start on either wing, even if Velasquez is blocking her at the moment.
#20 - ST - Lorenz MATHIEU - Kyrinson Cosmos - 21
A little bit of a left-field choice for Steeling, but the SecondLleague striker has been an absolute beast in the lower tiers, scoring twenty goals in as many league matches last season. A strong finisher and very athletic - but he’s still unpolished and a little limited on attack; he’s still mostly a poacher at this level.
#22 - ST - Axel KORBORG - Creed United (NPH) - 25
Korborg proved a polarizing figure at Capitals despite scoring ten goals in twenty-one matches, and many were glad to see him leave for three million dollars to Ceni's Whitehaven, where spent the next few years honing his craft before moving on. Known for prolific finishing, especially backheels, and is now widely tipped to succeed Penbrooke.
#30 - FW - Chelsea YAO - Nandaozhou Sharks - 30
Named the best player in the SuperLleague last season, Chelsea Yao was ostensibly a winger for Sharks but ended up playing as more of an inside-forward. Whatever her position, even if she’s most the quickest or strongest, her acceleration, agility and technique make her hard to keep up with on the right wing, and she’s an absolutely prolific goal-scorer who can make her own chances or create for others.
#36 - ST/RW - Carsten VINCENT - Northern Stallions (BRE) - 25
Vincent is a top-notch winger who scored eleven goals in twenty league games in his first full season with Stars before earning a move abroad. Known for his speed, Vincent could use some more polishing but is already very good.

THE PEOPLE’S FEDERATION OF YUEZHOU - NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

月州人民联邦 - 国家足球队

Cup of Harmony disappointment was swiftly followed with Copa Rushmori disappointment, but Yuezhou remains a team with massive potential. Alex Cartwright has maintained the confidence of the YFA, but knowing his team’s need to improve, he has made significant changes. Yuezhou still aren’t the most prestigious of teams - but Cartwright has qualification in his sights.

Nickname: The Red Dragons
Manager: Alex CARTWRIGHT
Style Modifier: -1.5

Formation

Most Goals:
1. Jiawei Sangu (16)
2. Fu Xi (13)
3. Wen Xiaoli (7)
Most Assists:
1. Wen Xiaoli (12)
2. Fu Xi (11)
3. Zhang Zhenya (6)
Most Caps:
1. Han Ruoyang (45)
2. Zhang Zhenya (45)
3. Jin Guiyu (45)

GOALKEEPERS

#23 - RUO Xiaolan - 25 - Cypher Town (NPH)

Ruo Xiaolan is a Wei Haidong-esque, very athletic goalkeeper - as well as, after helping Cypher Town secure promotion to Nephara's top flight, the first female player on the national team. She’s a high-flying shot-stopper who, despite some rawness, has come into her own as a keeper in the Nepharim Premiership - the first professional league she played in. With Ruo or Wu Zhen in net, the future is bright for the Red Dragons defense.

#01 - WEI Haidong - 33 - Nangang Royals
#12 - WU Zhen - 25 - Yincheng Capitals

Former starter Wei’s play is marked by fantastic reflex-saves and great athleticism - but although he’s very vocal off the pitch, he’s not exactly a leader on it, and he does make the occasional gaffe on set-pieces. Last year’s Golden Gloves winner in the Yuezhou Premier League, Wu is an excellent distributor who’s become the nation’s best shot stopper as well. An aggressive, athletic goalkeeper not afraid to come out of his box, Wu has also quietly become a team leader.

DEFENDERS

#17 - FAN Xiaopeng - 31 - Goldstaff City (COS)
#25 - MA Jianke - 29 - Dynamo Dalian
#03 - HAN Ruoyang [C] - 33 - Beian City
#15 - JIN Guiyu - 29 - SC Jiangdong
#14 - LIN Wangming - 24 - Beian City

Interestingly enough, the defense may be the most talented part of this Red Dragons team. After a few solid seasons in the YPL, Fan Xiaopeng seriously broke out with Cosumar’s Goldstaff City, being named as the best leftback in the league and showing off his athleticism and attacking prowess while becoming a defensive anchor. He’s the most talented player in this defense, but center-back and team captain Han Ruoyang is the most important. Not only does he lead the defense - both vocally and by example - but he’s also an athletic playmaker who will drift forwards and punish you if given the opportunity. Han is flanked by two solid center-backs - Ma Jianke of recently-promoted Dynamo Dalian revels in dirty work and is a very strong man-marker and defender, while Jin Guiyu is solid in the air and very versatile. Last but absolutely not least - except in age - talented right-back Lin Wangming has become a major attacking threat for Beian, and his defense has improved enough to win him the final starting spot in the back five.

#13 - LIANG Yufeng - 28 - Yincheng Capitals
#16 - HU Zheng - 32 - Yincheng Capitals
#02 - WANG Wuying - 30 - Olympic Nangang
#24 - WU Jing - 24 - Canterlot Stars (EQS)

A solid assortment of backup options. Wu Jing is a refined, intelligent young right-back, albeit one with less potential and pace than her competition in Lin, and the ambidextrous and versatile Liang Yufeng is more defensive-minded but still very solid. Closer to the middle, the versatile Hu Zheng is a more physical center-back options who could be used to close out a game, and former starter Wang Wuying, despite a poor qualifying campaign that Cartwright determined outweighed his solid league performance, is still a solid backup option at center-back. Somewhat concerningly though, there’s no replacement for captain Han Ruoyang - if he goes down, Yuezhou’s system goes down with him, although Yuezhou have enough serviceable defenders to get by with a more defensive 5-at-the-back formation.

MIDFIELDERS

#21 - WEN Xiaoli - 28 - Lotus Park (BRE)
#11 - HONG Guilin - 32 - FC Shanbei
#32 - QUAN Zedong - 29 - Olympic Nangang

Cartwright has raised eyebrows - and potentially done much more in the long run - by centering his midfield around controversial young Wen Xiaoli. A proud member of the Sangau (a questionably-Yue western territory) Nationalist Movement who has been imprisoned several times for his actions as part of the SNM, Wen is nevertheless a brilliant - if still somewhat inconsistent - playmaker and tireless presser who has proven himself worth the trust Cartwright has put in him with brilliant performances both at home and abroad. Playing alongside him is the more direct Quan Zedong - the best player in the YPL two seasons ago, and expected to be more of a #10 to Wen’s deep-lying playmaker. Holding things down for the two attackers will be Hong Guilin, a new addition to the team and one of Cartwright’s favorites - Hong’s a tireless defensive midfielder who also has an eye for counterattacks.

#18 - HAN Xiaowei - 24 - Nangang Royals
#19 - GU Zhalei - 19 - Beian City
#29 - WEI Jiabin - 28 - Beian Rovers

Young Han Xiaolei, expected to take over for Hong once the latter has retired, has seriously come out of nowhere for Nangang Royals, usurping Zhang Zhenya’s starting place, and the defensive midfielder with an excellent eye for passing has risen quickly in Cartwright’s eyes. The similarly young Gu Zhalei, who many thought more deserving than Jayson Herrera for a starting spot, is an energetic young playmaker who idolizes Wen (to the Yue nationalists’ dismay). Last but not least, Wei Jiabin is in theory a deep-lying playmaker, but although he’s more than capable of making brilliant passes, it’s not something that happens often for the defensive-minded midfielder - something Cartwright would definitely like to change.

STRIKERS

#10 - FU Xi - 29 - Viztourzys Kolektyvinis (BYN)
#9 - JIAWEI Sangu - 36 - Mükiazhou Athletic

The opposite of Qiu Hanying's pessimistic one-striker formation, Alex Cartwright’s attack is fluid, dynamic, and athletic. Fu Xi is a false-nine who has played a leading role in first Yincheng’s and then Viztourzy’s strong seasons, and is known both for his playmaking abilities and for his finishing skills inside the box. On his right is Jiawei Sangu. One of two Mükiazhou-based players on the team, Jiawei has scored 301 goals over 12 seasons in the league and is a complete striker who will play much further inside than former winger and second-choice Guo - although he is starting to slow down with age.

#07 - GUO Zexi - 29 - Beian City
#18 - XIE Xueyi - 28 - Beian City
#20 - HUANG Shenan - 32 - SC Jiangdong

A solid trio of backups. Guo Zexi, the fastest man on the team, is a very skilled dribbler and passer on either wing who just can’t finish. Xie Xueyi may have questionable decision making at times, but he’s young, talented, and athletic, and will be useful as an impact sub. Finally, returnee Huang Shenan has become a dominant all-around inside forward since his return from injury, and replaces Ren Delan on the side.

RP Permissions: Don't kill/injure for life, TG for approval if you're going to godmod. Everything else is fair game.

Squadra Nazionale di Juvencus

Image

The last world cup cycle was a very good one for the gli attaccanti, despite failing to qualify for the world cup after putting a hell of a battle with a lot of nations in the group stages, failing to qualify in the end after a catastrophic defeat with 8-1 to Schottia. However they managed to get to the Cup of Harmony's 71st edition, which they won against Soltsteed in the pens, after a goalless 120 minutes of play, managing to beat a couple of really good teams along the way. The Independents Cup followed, despite going undefeated through the group stages and into the round of 16, where they faced Mercedini, failing to beat them in botht he normal duration of the match as well as the extra time, losing to the pens. The team's entering the world cup group stages undefeated for 10 matches straight. What's to be noted are Rodolfo Gallo as well as the Gian Landi international retirements, which were filled by the first ever Juven females to enter the national team!

The Cup of Harmony campaign was nothing sort of incredible for the gli attaccanti, the squad proved its worth by taking several giants out of the way to reach the final and get the country's first international trophy back home. The Independents Cup campaign was what is called a 'successful failure' meaning they were eliminated from the tournament undefeated, after losing to Mercedini in the pens. The secret behind all this success is the squad's offensive-minded tactics as well as the tenacity they show while they're on the pitch. It's very well-known by now that the squad consists of some really fast players, which favors counter-offensive play a lot, they'll stick to it come this world cup cycle.

National Football Team of Schottia

World Cup 80
Starblaydia & The Equestrian States

Manager: Lionel Mah 58 Image
Assistant: Colin Donaldson 47 Image
First Team Coach: David Chettwell 76 Image
First Team Coach: Judy Scott 70 Image
First Team Coach: Conner Watts 59 Image
Gk Coach: Peter Acheson 58 Image
Physio: Claire Hanson-Conavacio 40 Image
------------------------------

This current managerial team are now going into the fourth cycle together, having utterly transformed Schottia's fortunes over the last six years. Quebecois boss, Lionel Mah, was totally untested at international level when he took over from Jane Gullie, and while his appointment might have been a little controversial, he has now well and truly won the nation over. Mah's ability to motivate, man-manage, and get the most out of a limited playing pool appears to be second to none, and the 58-year-old has got the entire team pulling in the same direction. Former team captain, Colin Donaldson, joined as Mah's assistant after he cut his managerial teeth as interim manager at Handon United. The 47-year-old knows the Schottic game, and has strengths in the areas Mah lacks, making him an influential voice on the training pitch. David Chettwell is part of the furniture now at Harbour Hill, having worked under three Schottia managers to date. He knows the players, knows the culture, and 'Davy' - as the players call him - is a good go-between for the management and playing staff. Judy Scott and Conner Watts were both brought in on Donaldson's recommendation, and the pair of them have lots of front-line coaching experience. Peter Acheson is a member of the side who survived the post- Jane Gullie era cull, and he has worked with the goalkeeping staff for a long time. Physio, Claire Hanson-Conavacio - yes, she is the wife of the Quebecois legend - is perhaps one of the more controversial members of the team, having been previously sacked for allegations of assaulting a player. The charges were later dropped, paving the way for this world-class sports scientist (now living in the Equestrian States) to re-enter the fold.

Team history
Barry Gorman era
Not so much a tale of ups and downs, Schottia's history in the World Cup competitions has been one of very slow progress. Since Barry Gorman took over a side ranked outside the world's top 300, which had just finished WC68 with a grand total of 0-points, the Auks have seen their fortunes steadily improve. The small nation of six-and-a-half-million gave a very good account of themselves under his stewardship and it was in this era that we saw them first adopt their now familiar 4-2-3-1 formation. Schottia finished sixth of eight in their group as they tried to reach the finals of WC69 in his first year in charge, qualifying for the Cup of Harmony, where they recorded a surprise win over Mizuyuki. The subsequent rise up the world rankings saw them finish third, fourth, third in WC70, 71, and 72 respectively, as they established themselves as one of the world's mid-ranked sides. Schottia put in some plucky performance over the years, and there was little doubt that it was Gorman who had made the difference, seemingly able to dig deep and get something extra out of the country's small pool of players. It was also during this period (immediately prior to WC70) that Schottia won the Di Bradini Cup, and that golden generation of youngsters has slowly began to make their mark on the senior squad.

Despite being the one to galvanise the team, Barry Gorman's position as manager became more and more difficult. After a series of wild promises and statements of overconfidence, he constantly succeeded in building up the fans' expectations, and creating a rod for his own back. In the end it was no doubt this bravado, coupled with a lacklustre qualification campaign in WC72, which saw the SFA decline to offer him a new contract. He did go on to lead the side to the knockout stages of the Cup of Harmony for the first time, however it wasn't enough, and as the side limped out after a heavy defeat to Nova Anglicana, it was to be the 47-year-old's last act in charge.

Jane Gullie era
After their Cup of Harmony exit, Schottia was standing at a bit of a crossroads. Managerless, and despite reaching the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time, it was abundantly clear that they were a million miles off the pace. From a shortlist of five candidates, Jane Gullie emerged as the most suitable option, and was handed the job over the likes of caretaker Grant Nean, and Schottic DBC hero Jock Sonny. Gullie had made a name for herself after lifting the SPL title with New Belfast Warriors, and was commended for her style of man-management and balanced tactics, which the board thought conducive to the Schottic style of play. It is easy to forget when looking back with rosé tinted glasses, but Gullie's reign was not an overnight success and indeed, she came very close to being sacked only five matches into the World Cup 73 Qualifiers. Results picked up however, the turning point being a win at home to Krytenia - a massive achievement for a nation who traditionally struggle against the top sides. The result seemed to give Schottia a new found confidence, and with the cracks glossed over with a little self belief, they eventually went on to top their group. Further wins over Mertagne, and the completion of the double over Krytenia in the final group game meant that Schottia were able to avoid the play-off lottery and move straight into the World Cup final draw.

In spite of all the excitement surrounding the nation's qualification, there was no hiding the enormity of the task they faced. Drawn in a difficult group consisting of San Jose San Jose Guayabal, Farfadillis, and the Polar Islandstates, Schottia finished in fourth place picking up a single point against Farfadillis.

Schottia then entered the World Cup 74 qualification as second seeds in their group, and while this made for a potentially easier draw - being placed alongside The Holy Empire, Bears Armed, and New Gelderland saw pay to that. After a huge struggle, Schottia eventually came out on top for a second cycle running. In reflection the home and away wins over New Gelderland, were probably pivotal in a group where all the sides dropped points. By this point Gullie was starting to get the players she wanted around her, and this was marked by the emergence of individuals such as Johannas Ünterhausen, Bella Thompson, and Herron Crew, who all made valuable contributions.

The finals themselves were once again a bridge too far for Schottia, and where they seem to have gotten qualification down to a T, the finals are another story all together. This time Schottia were draw alongside Nova Anglicana, Vilita, and the familiar faces of Farfadillis. It was to be the same story as last time however, and with zero wins, Schottia limped out once again at the group stage.

After topping their qualification group the two previous campaigns there was a lot of pressure on Jane Gullie to do the same going into WC75. However, despite a strong start, the Schottians fell by the wayside, with a seemingly inconceivable collapse at the halfway stage, finishing third behind Devonta and Eura.

Lionel Mah Era
Schottia's first World Cup qualifying campaign under the very highly rated Quebecois Lionel Mah can simply be summed up by the word - frustration. In many ways, they did so much right, but during the critical games against Eshan and Turori, they couldn't come up with the goods. The Schottic support seemed to be divided right down the middle, as to whether or not the manager should be given a second chance. However, and perhaps most crucially, the players had been generally in favour of the then 50-year-old. In the end, the Schottic FA decided not to make a final decision on Mah's fate until after the Cup of Harmony, which would prove to be astute move.

Optimism was desperately low as Schottia headed into their first ever Cup of Harmony on home soil, with overseas territory Port Christopher qualifying for the World Cup making it all the more painful. However, Schottia managed to dig deep, and pull out the results they needed, as they made their way to the final. They suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final, losing in the dying minutes to a very impressive Bonesea side. Despite the obvious disappointment, there were several positives to take away. The run to the final, which included a 4-0 win over the higher ranked Super-Llamaland, undoubtedly meant that Schottia went into the Independents Cup the following year full of confidence.

Schottia marched to a somewhat surprise victory at the inaugural tournament, which pitted associations playing out with the Mulitiverse's three main sporting regions against one another. Defeating Veldgouwen in the final, Lionel Mah's side were able to atone for letting the Cup of Harmony slip through their fingers on home solid, and add a first senior trophy to the Harbour Hill cabinet.

Going into the qualifiers for World Cup 77, national confidence was at an all time high. Despite what on paper looked like a difficult draw, there was a feeling that Mah and Donaldson were the management team who knew how to get results. Along with heavyweights, Starblaydia and the Sarian, Schottia were also pitted against emerging superpower, Ceni. While Arrowsword, Koromin, and Co proved to be a bridge too far for the Schottians, they swept all others aside with some gutsy performances, to finish second in the group.

After securing a return to the world stage, Schottia found themselves in nosebleed territory after topping their group with nine points. A 2-1 win over Nephara will no doubt be the highlight of what turned out to be their breakthrough cycle. An extra time victory over fellow rising stars, Anglatia, in the round of sixteen, meant that Schottia were in uncharted waters as they progressed to the quarterfinals. It wouldn't be a World Cup if it didn't involve facing Farfadillis, and it was at the hands of the AO side, that Schottia eventually made their exit.

Mah and his team went on to prove that their exploits in SJG were no fluke, as they marched to the finals of the second IAC hosted in Schottia. Despite some good performances along the way, there was a horrible feeling of deja vu, as the Auks lost out to a young Bonesea side in the final.

There can surely have been no Schottic manager ever, who was under the same weight of expectation as Lionel Mah, as he went into World Cup-78. The unprecedented success he had brought to the team over the last four years looked, on paper, to be an impossible act to follow. They were sorted into a qualifying group alongside familiar opponents in the form of Super-Llamaland and Kaboomlandia, with the Schottic fans expecting nothing other than qualification; especially with two sides going through automatically. Mah didn't only deliver qualification; he went through the entire campaign with a 100% record, moving Schottia up into the World's top-ten for the first time.

Despite huffing and puffing through the group stage, Schottia made it to the knockouts for the second year running at the World Cup finals. A bizarre 5-1 win over Pasarga, and a workman like 3-2 victory over hosts Cosumar, saw them though to the semi-final and within ninety minutes of the World Cup final. They face off against two times former champions, Eura, in what was an epic contest. However there was to be heartbreak at the end, as Schottia went out 4-3 on penalty kicks. The side did bounce back however, defeating the Holy Empire in the third place play off, to somehow top the world rankings.

Heading into their third Independents Cup, Mah selected a youthful squad, hell-bent on winning their title back from those pesky sailors! Despite leaving out several top players, Schottia's future squad put in a series of very gutsy performances, as they made their way to the final for the third year running. After a very close fought battle with our former co-hosts, Mercedini, Schottia ran out 2-1 winners, giving the next generation a first taste of silverware. A few months later the team were back in action, entering the Eagle's Cup with a more established squad of players. After some mixed results in the group stage, Schottia's results improved with impressive victories over Nephara and Valanora. However, defeat to Cosumar for the second time in the tournament, saw them beaten in the final.

Schottia capped off what will go down as the nation's golden ear in world football, lifting the World Cup in Drawkland. There was a fair bit of pressure on the Auks going into the 79th WC, but after a shaky start to qualifying, they progressed undefeated to the finals. There were some heart in mouth moments, but Lionel Mah's boys and girls made their way through to the final with six wins from six, to take on old enemies, Bonesea at Drawkland's Seven Stars Stadium. After a nail-biting encounter, Corinne Martel-Burns scored the winning goal in stoppage time to win the match 3-2.

Squad information
The pressure Lionel Mah faces this cycle is trying to maintain the same standard, while at the same time trying to gradually replace some of his aging stars. While it has most certainly been bolstered in recent years, the Schottia playing squad has traditionally been a thin one, and there's no doubt that previous managers have felt the sting from injuries and suspensions in past campaigns. The World Cup title saw a raft of international retirements, and to be fair, there is something to be said for going out on a high. Notably, Larry Watt, Jenny McDonald, Jeremy McNott, and Eoin Killanen have all called it a day; with Chloe Rudden also deciding to take more time to focus on other projects. Sabrefell Athletic Star, Rudden, is the least-expected blow, and at thirty-two, Mah might have hoped for one last cycle out of her. The inclusion of four former Port Christopher internationals will help palliate this exodus, and while Maeve Bronte and Michael Campbell have already been blooded during the Independents Cup, Rian Corrello and Rachel Del Arro will also be keen to make their mark. Mah has also handed first time call-ups to Pirates' enforcer, Seyda Artîn, and young strikers, Jack Avelione, Lara Wedderburn, and John Fife. Artîn has been on top form with her Christopheran club over the last twenty-four months, and should most certainly bring some steel to the centre of the pitch following Jenny McDonald hanging up her boots. The strike trio, from Bastion, Ramosuk United, and Cornellians respectively, are no doubt called up in a bid to ease Schottia's striker problems; with the majority of their current crop either too old, too insane, or not tested at the highest level.

The defence picks itself at the moment, with Cornellians keeper, Harry Gould, starting behind a standard back four of, Louis Hordern, Paul Doig, Mark Ünterhausen, and Gareth Souter. All four play at the very top level domestically, and with the likes of Molly Killanen, Grant Carlin, and Stephen Paul waiting in the wings, there is depth there too. This doesn't mean to say there are no problems whatsoever, and injury to Handon United man, Hordern, would force Mah to look to untested players such as Treason's Rain Corrello, or Warriors' Simon Johnson. Former Christopheran international, Mike Campbell is another stout centre-back in reserve; and plying his trade in Audioslavia, Matthew Ingold, is solid cover at left-back. Competition for places means there is no room for Leichhardt hardman, Michael Koller, or highly rated Pelethas United star, Craig Mallman.

The central midfield has been the area of the pitch, which has really driven Schottia forward in recent cycles, and that's easy enough to see why. With Evelyn Conjure, Line Stenberg, and Dilon Bánach all competing for the two starting places, Lionel Mah has one of those "good" headaches you often hear about. Brinemouth girl, Conjure, is the driving force behind the team, and with this high-energy grafter in the engine room, Schottia can just about compete with anyone in this department. The debate as to whether it should be Bánach or Stenberg that accompanies her in the centre is one that has been raging on fan forums for the past few years. At the moment, however, it seems that Mah favours pace of former the former Kingsgrove midfielder, meaning that Schottia's most expensive player has to be content for a place on the bench. Johannas Ünterhausen, Maeve Bronte, Krista Morham, and Natalie Adams are also good options to have, and will undoubtedly have a role to play. Morham and Ünterhausen are players of a similar mould, while Bronte and Adams offer defensive and attacking options respectively.

Schottia field an attacking midfield of three, with can fluctuate between a winger system and a more come compact central unit. Skipper, Kim Coultan will almost certainly start on the right side, where her ability to deliver the killer ball has been used to great effect in recent years. Occupying the number-ten spot is the highly underrated Camila Soria Luna, who secretly makes the team tick. The attacking midfielder, now at Mâ Âlâmëómë, might now get some of the recognition her performances for Marine Coast in the V-League have merited. With Chloe Rudden's early retirement, Steven Rexmont should theoretically be all clear to fill his boots on the left. The Chenoworth Harriers winger is perhaps even better suited to the role than his predecessor, and can cause a lot of problems rampaging down the line or through the middle. Lionel Mah has the option to bring on Alexander Alan on the right, push Soria Luna further forward, and go with more of a 4-4-2 system. Former Christopheran, Rachel Del Arro can also play in the wide areas or through the middle, while young attackers Isaiah Vaught and Jack Avelione are another two can operate on either wing. Mars Alexandersson and Elizabeth Addison are both doing well at Lammerton and Lhor respectively, but it's going to be a tall ask for either woman to get much game time, with the likes of Adams and Morham capable for moving up to attack.

Schottia are frighteningly reliant on the goals of the volatile Corinne Martel-Burns. The Tihon Tide striker can most certainly put them away, but her inability to stay on the park has caused problems for Schottia in previous cycles. Ross Renshaw would be the obvious back up, but the big Cednia Beach striker has never really scored enough goals in the big matches to make him a viable replacement. Hondo striker, Lucy Curren, was very effective throughout the last cycle, and given that she seems to have her scoring-boots on right now, the 31-year-old will probably get a fair amount of game time once again. The forward area is a department where Schottia have had problems, and as we look further down the pecking order, you can easily see how a few injuries could land the team in hot water. Jessica Lennox comes in with a good scoring record from the Chromatik League, and while she is very much Mah's type of player, she did taste relegation in Nephara last season. Waiting in reserve, Lara Wedderburn is untested at senior level, but there may be opportunity for them to step up to the plate.

Full Squad
Listed first are the most likely starting eleven, so if in doubt assume those players will be starting. However, if you are RPing, please feel free to read through the other players' descriptions and make a few inclusions. -- All information is accurate to the start of qualifying.

1. GK. Harry Gould, 31 | Image Cornellians | Height:188cm Weight:81kg | Caps: 75 Goals: 0
As Schottia's one top keeper still in his prime, Harry Gould has been racking up the caps over the past four years. The move to Cornellians has been good for him, and the former Soessch and Port Sebastian number one has clearly benefited from playing at a higher level. Gould isn't the kind of keeper who is going to pull of the wonder-saves, or produce jaw-dropping athleticism. Instead he is steady, composed, and an excellent communicator, who organises the defence well. With no real area's of weakness in his game, Gould is player who brings some consistency and reliability to a position where both qualities are sorely needed.

2. RB Louis Hordern, 24 Image Handon United | Height: 182cm. Weight: 88kg | Caps: 32 Goals: 1
Hordern has been one of the SPL's most consistent players over the past few seasons, driving Handon United forward from the back. The 24-year-old was a big player for Schottia during the World Cup winning campaign, and reenergised the right right-back position, filling in for aging vice-captain, Larry Watt. Hordern is like a steam train going forward down the right flank, and with his ability to overlap the midfield and deliver that killer ball, Lionel Mah has a strong and versatile player in that position. Despite being linked to Celtic Noviodunum towards the end of the transfer window, United's golden-boy stayed put, helping his side to a third SPL title in four years, as well as the Champions' Cup semis.

3. LB. Paul Doig, 34 | Image Port Sebastian | Height:180cm Weight:71kg | Caps: 82 Goals: 0
The fact that a player of Paul Doig's somewhat-limited ability has notched up 82 caps for his country is very impressive; and a testament to his maturity, and perseverance. The Port Sebastian left-back is solid rather than world-class, with more of a focus on doing the simple stuff right. Don't expect to see Doig hammering down the flank, his priority is always on defence and covering his lines. Despite a few shortcomings, Doig his become central to Lionel Mah's plans with his long-throw ability helping him keep the likes of James Robertson and Molly Killanen out of the first team. If you focus on what he can do, then he is one of the best left-back around right now, if you focus on his weaknesses, then he could even be considered a chink in the Schottia armour.

4. CB. Mark Ünterhausen, 27 | Image Spartangrad | Height:186cm Weight:79kg | Caps: 61 Goals: 3
Mark Ünterhausen has successfully negotiated a very important phase in his career, making the step up from Semarlandic club, Jansberg, to Nepharim heavy-weights, Sabrefell Moths. Arguably the most successful member of Ünterhausen footballing dynasty, Mark is now first choice for Schottia at centre-back, slotting in alongside the more experienced Gareth Souter. Ünterhausen is not the biggest, most powerful defender in the side, but he a cool and composed head at the back. He has a bit of pace about him, and rarely loses out in a footrace, having played right-back a number of times in his youth. Ünterhausen has captained the side before, and is one of a number of influential players Schottia have at the back.

5. CB. Gareth Souter, 33 | Image 1860 Azoth | Height: 189cm. Weight: 86kg | Caps: 118 Goals: 9
Now one of the senior statesmen in this side, Gareth Souter sailed past the 100-cap mark during the last cycle. Since he broke into Handon United first team as a teenager, it's been obvious this energetic centre-half was distained for big things. Souter's career grew alongside Cenian football, and he certainly benefited from moving to the Rushmori nation, back when the Ceni-League was one of the multiverse's rising associations. After a decade with Sporting Cenial, his time with the club came to an end as they were relegated three years ago, with Souter moving to then Champions' Cup winners, 1860 Azoth. The former DBC winner has been a mainstay of the Schottia squad for while now, and alongside Ünterhausen, the Auks seem to have a settled pairing.

6. CM/AMC/WL. Line Stenberg, 24 | Image Handon United | Height:168cm Weight:63kg | Caps: 22 Goals: 8
Stenberg's risk of quitting the Regional Development Side early would appear to have paid off, as a more hands on method of learning seems to have fast tracked her to the top. After ditching her academy scholarship, along with her maths and physics degree, Stenberg headed for A-League side, Kingsgrove, where she quickly established herself in the senior squad. In a period where the Brenecian side dominated the domestic scene, Stenberg was one of the standout performers, eventually earning a ten million move to Handon United last season. The girl of Nordkreusen parentage has proven herself to be a valuable player for Schottia over the last cycle, racking up twenty-two caps as she emerged as the preferred option alongside Evelyn Conjure in the centre. Stenberg is a dynamic and versatile player, who can operate in the wide position.

8. CM. Evelyn Conjure, 28 | Image Brinemouth | Height: 170cm. Weight: 67kg | Caps: 77 Goals: 14
Conjure has really become the poster girl for this Schottia team, since she was named Galacticos Runner-up three years ago. The Brinemouth midfielder is absolutely central to the way Schottia play, and is a calm, creative, and controlling presence in the centre of the park. She originally made a name for her self in Port Christopher, where she was part of Jan Markus Hellensen's highly successful Blue Coast side. While Conjure normally plays centre-midfield for Schottia, she made her name a utility player, and indeed, seems to play in a slightly more advanced role for the Nepharim champions. The current Premiership player of the year is going to be very important to Lionel Mah's plans once again, and her crisp, intelligent passing is the beating heart of this team.

11. A/CM FC. Kim Coultan, 32 | Image Crawford City | Height:160cm Weight:53kg | Caps: 135 Goals: 39 C
Schottia's World Cup winning skipper would have been assured to legend status no matter what happened two years ago, but this honour is the icing on what has been an incredible career. Coultan is the first woman to pull on a Schottia jersey, the first Schottian to play abroad, and has picked up the DBC, IAC, and World Cup 79 en route to reaching a total of 135 caps. The only thing that seemed to elude the former Jottnar and Dundee girl was domestic success, however with Crawford City's recent upturn in fortunes, that appears to have rectified itself. Coultan has received a second wind since Amethyst Fegelein took charge at the Elephants, and just as it looked as if the attacker was winding down, she has arguably hit her best form. While the skipper lacks much in the way of physical presence, she more than compensates with her accurate one-touch-passing, and penchant for playing those killer passes.

7. ST/AMRLC. Jack Avelione, 19 | Image Bastion | Height:188cm Weight:79kg | Caps: 0 Goals: 0
Avelione has a big name to live up to, but early indications show that he might be up to the task. The 19-year-old son of Jago, and nephew of Gaston, comes into this cycle fresh from a good DBC, where he scored four in four en route to the last sixteen. Currently contracted to Euran side, Bastion, he spent a spell on loan at Marionville a year ago, where his goals were crucial in helping the newly promoted side to fourth. Avelione is tall, quick, and with his ability to play anywhere in attack, you would imagine he has all the makings of one of the country's top stars. It will be interesting to see how much he features over the course to the World Cup qualifiers, as Lionel Mah may be reluctant to put too much pressure on him too young.

10. AMC. Camila Soria Luna, 24 | Image Mâ Âlâmëómë | Height:177cm Weight:65kg | Caps: 63 Goals: 21
It's one of Multiverse football's best-kept secrets: it was Camila Soria Luna who won Schottia the U15-World Cup, not Corinne Martel-Burns. She might not command the same amount of column inches, but the Port Christopher born playmaker is arguably more important to this team. Luna has courted a fair bit of controversy herself, most notably when she opted to play for Schottia instead of Port Christopher, just when the latter were getting off the ground. Having spent time with the national academy set-up and Project +90, Luna was one of the top prospects around at the time, and her rejection was a blow to the Sea Lions. The 24-year-old spent five successful seasons with Marine Coast United in the V-League, but upon relegation opted for a fresh start with Farf side, Mâ Âlâmëómë. One the park, Luna is an athletic and intelligent attacker, who plays with her head up, and is never wasteful in possession.

13. FC. Corinne Martel-Burns, 26 | Image Directus | Height:173cm Weight:64kg | Caps: 93 Goals: 75
Crazily good, or just crazy? Probably not until we are able to look back on her career in ten years time will we be able to really answer that question. Never has there been a Schottic player who has courted more controversy or commanded more column inches than Connie "CMB" Martel-Burns. The term 'loose cannon' really doesn't do the player justice, who first hit the headlines aged fourteen, after being kicked out of the Handon United academy. Her senior career has been every bit as turbulent, spending a season with Kirk Preston in the First Division before a move to St Johns Arsenal, which did nothing for her mental state. Despite scoring a shit-ton of goals in Quebec, the atmosphere seemed only to play-up her idiosyncrasies, ending with her missing the IAC-II while facing charges for assaulting a fan. After moving Cenian side, Polaris, in a fifteen million deal, Martel-Burns experience mixed fortunes, and due to her own mental decline, was unable to replicate the kind of form she produced for Schottia and Arsenal. The 26-year-old broke the Schottic transfer record twelve months ago when she signed for Chromatik champions, Tihon, in a 33-million move.

Substitutes & Reserves

23. GK. Jim Black, 32 | Image FC Soessch | Height: 184cm Weight:75kg | Caps: 4 Goals: 0
Jim Black is back in the fold for the first time since World Cup 76, and the 32-year-old will be desperate to add to his four caps he earned while at Lammerton. Black has been an outstanding keeper at SPL level, but it has always been said that he lacks composure in the big matches. This has undoubtedly hindered the small, athletic keeper, who has struggled to stake much of a claim for the Schottia No.1 jersey. Now at FC Soessch he has been putting in some steady performances once again, and this call-up is probably his last chance.

12. GK. Ed Lorrey, 21 | Image Mliona-Lpaka AFC [/b] | Height:188cm Weight:77kg | Caps: 0 Goals: 0
Wonderkid is a tag you don't here attached to goalkeepers very often, but Lorrey certainly fits that mould. He started for Schottia en route to the semi-final of the DBC three years ago, having made his first league appearance for Dundee aged sixteen. Lorrey was manager Johnny Smith's big money signing following his move to Lammerton, as he clearly saw enough in the player to bring him with him. While he might lack the experience to be thrown in at the deep end, the youngster has all the attributes needed to succeed, should he be called upon. He recently completed a move to Turorian heavyweights, Mliona-Lpaka AFC , in a move rumoured to be in the region of $7 million.

19. RB. Rian Corrello, 26 | Image AFC Treason, | Height: 176cm. Weight: 66kg | Caps: 0 Goals: 0
This highly ambitious, brutally competitive right-back was one of the first Christopheran internationals to pledge their allegiance to Schottia after the team went belly up. The Treason defender missed out on a call up to the IAC, but following the retirement of Larry Watt, her performances in the Nepharim Premeirship have been enough to merit her inclusion. Corrello has a ruthless attitude and haircut to prove it; she doesn't take any prisoners and leaves nothing behind in the tackle. The former Pirates and Christopheran Porty player is likely a player Lionel Mah will want to take a look at over the course of the qualifiers.

14. LB. Matthew Ingold, 30 | Image Cazadores Cathair | Height:188cm Weight:75kg | Caps: 4 Goals: 0
Something of a late bloomer, Ingold won his first cap at the Independent Cup last year, where the then 29-year-old found himself thrown into the starting eleven. Anyone remember him playing for Stalker Bay? No..? Well he did - as an ill disciplined youngster - and it's fair to say he's come a long way since then. Now in the starting line up for Cazadores Cathair, the 30-year-old is looking much more composed and keen to make up for lost time in the Schottia set up. There is already stiff competition at left-back, and Ingold's performances at the IAC-4 will have given Lionel Mah a big headache ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers.

21. CB. Grant Carlin, 25 | Image 1860 Azoth | Height:189cm Weight:80kg | Caps: 11 Goals: 0
Grant Carlin is right on the cusp of the starting eleven at the moment, as his performance at the Independents Cup would suggest. He is a big, heavy-weight centre-half, who can move with a surprising nimbleness and speed when he is required to do so. Carlin was captain of New Island at the age of twenty, and that should tell you a lot about him. A real leader, he has also skippered his country at U21 and U18 levels. The Azoth man is currently one of only two Schottian's to have lifted the Champions' Cup alongside Larry Watt, and he will be keen to establish himself in the Schottia team at some point in the next two years.

15. RM. Alexander Alan, 28 | Image Port Sebastian | Height:181cm Weight: 71kg | Caps: 17 Goals: 4
What a season Alexander Alan has had in his first taste of Schottic football. This mild-mannered, gentleman of the game has been around a bit; starting his career in Semarland with the Copenbrok Klub youth team, before spending a season in The Red Vale. On his return to Schottia - first with Kirk Preston, then Port Sebastian - he had left-backs running scared the length and breadth of the country, with his old-fashioned flying winger routine. What Alan does is straightforward: run like fuck, and deliver a good cross - it's not flashy but it seems to work. The 28-year-old almost dragged the Holy Men into the Globe Cup spots two seasons ago, and this was enough to catch the eye of Porty boss Nicolas Lars who forked out $4 million on him. He is probably the best right-winger in the current squad, and since that position seems to feature in Lionel Mah's plan-B, it's likely we'll see a fair bit of him over the course of the qualifiers.

17. L/CM. Rachel Del Arro, 29 | Image Samaj FC | Height:173cm Weight:57kg | Caps: 0 Goals: 0
The former Port Christopher international has emerged out of nowhere as a real contender to start on the left side of midfield. Rumour has it that Lionel Mah asked the 29-year-old, directly, to declare her allegiance for Schottia, to plug a gap filled by the retiring Chloe Rudden. The former Handon United kid has improved beyond measure since her move to the Harlighet ten years ago, and can certainly bring something new to the table. Del Arro is very good with the ball at her feet, and either down the left flank or through the middle of the pitch, this little attacker takes some stopping.

22. DM. Maeve Bronte, 27 | Image Crisisbless | Height:175cm Weight:65kg | Caps: 5 Goals: 0
The former Pirates captain proved all her doubters wrong, after making the switch to the Premiership. Two seasons with Crisisbless have shown that she can do more than just break up play, as she seemes to have risen to challenge. Bronte is a defensive midfielder first and foremost; don't expect any great playmaking ability from her, because it won't happen. However, when it comes to doing the simply stuff, she does it perfectly, and puts in 100% for the full 90 minutes. The former Port Christopher skipper allegedly had her reservations about making herself available for Schottia, but did so nonetheless. Of all the players to have made the switch, Bronte is the one who offers something Schottia don't already have.

16. CM. Dilon Bánach, 24 | Image Lonngeylin Coast | Height: 171cm. Weight: 62kg | Caps: 40 Goals: 7
Schottia's most expensive player off all time might need to be content not to start every match this cycle, with Lionel Mah seeming to prefer the central two of Conjure and Stenberg. Big attempts have been made to incorporate all three of them into the system, but it never appears to yield the optimal result. The striker turned central midfielder has been the golden-girl at Handon United for a number of years now, and was synonymous with their recent rise. However, Bánach has decided (no doubt with the NS dollar signs flashing in her eyes) that it was time to spread her wings with a move to V-League champions Lonngeylin Coast. Bánach is a strong, athletic little midfielder, who works hard to win the ball back, and uses it intelligently when she gets it.

20. AMC. Mars Alexandersson, 27 | Image Lammerton | Height:180cm Weight:67kg | Caps: 2 Goals: 0
The second naturalised Sunrise in the squad, given Alexandersson's form for Lammerton over the past few seasons, the call-up is hardly a surprise. This all-action attacker plays in the blurred lines between a forward and a midfielder, and performs best when given a fair amount of freedom. Alexandersson has done well in the two appearances she has made for Schottia, but her lack of game-time perhaps points to the fact that she is not immediately in Lionel Mah's first team plans. She has been a huge fans' favourite at Lammerton since joining them as a teenager, and the season they have had can only do wonders for her chances of making an impact here.

9. FC. Lucy Curren, 31 | Image Hondo FC | Height:178cm Weight: 69kg | Caps: 27 Goals: 14
Three years ago Lucy Curren was counting down the days till retirement, after finally tasting relegation with Maximum Rovers. The fiery haired centre-forward had been a squad player in the Nepharim Premiership for twelve years, battling away for a mid-table table spot, picking up a couple of Schottia caps along the way. It all changed, however, after she signed for Valanoran side, Hondo FC, picking up the golden-boot along with the league title in her first season with the club. Curren was thrust into the forefront of Lionel Mah's thoughts, and became a key player in Schottia's World Cup winning side, quickly taking her goal tally into double figures. Curren is a goal scorer first and foremost; with a good turn of pace, and a fighting attitude.

18. FC. Ross Renshaw, 24 | Image Cednia Beach AFC | Height:180cm Weight:73kg | Caps: 27 Goals: 10
Ross Renshaw was thrust into the lime light a couple of years back, while part of the very successful Schottia DBC team that reached the semi-finals. He then followed it up with league, UICA and CEdC success with his club Blue Coast 1981. Renshaw is a quiet, and reasonably humble character, which can be both his strength and his weakness. He is a very good team player, but for a natural goal scorer, one might prefer him to be a little more selfish. Lionel Mah clearly likes him - as did Cednia Beach it seems, who forked out a seven figure sum for him - and it's impossible not be impressed by his work rate and professionalism. If he is going to become a world-class player, however, he is going to need to score more goals at the top level.

Location: Handon, South Schottia
Capacity: 55,000. Including some safe standing sections.

Schottia
Situated in the middle of the Bara Sea, Schottia is a small diverse country of 6.6 million people. Throughout the world, Schottia is best known for its progressive social policies, far left politics, and whisky distilleries. The southern Schottic landscape is largely characterised by arable farmland, pine forests, and windswept pebble beaches. The North Island, by contrast, is almost entirely made up of rugged mountain ranges and bleak scree-slopes, where the towns and cities, for the most part, hug the narrow bands of flat land around the coast.

Schottia was once the easternmost part of an Ossorian Empire, the remnants of which still stretch around most of what are now the region of Tyran. Schottia broke away from the Ossorians in 1867, following internal unrests, which saw the small fledgling nation take the first steps down the road towards becoming a republic. Schottia as we know it today was constituted in 1922, following a workers' uprising, out of which the country's socialist politics was born.

Today, Schottia is a small, peaceful nation; with thriving fishing, tourism, and drinks industries. Most people living in South Schottia are ethnically Schottic or Ossorian, although particularly in the bigger cities, you will meet a range of people from all over the region, who have at one point fled major conflicts, or simply chosen to study or settle. The North Island of Schottia is similar, however it also has a large Shalumite-German population, as well as pockets of French speaking communities.

Handon
The most international of all Schottia's cities is its capital Handon. The diverse population of 1.1 million includes over 200,000 students who attend the city's four universities and five technical colleges. The harbour city is a unique blend of the old and the new, with modern buildings slotted into gap sites around 17th and 18th century architecture. Of all Schottia's towns and cities Handon is by far the most vibrant, with award winning restaurants, clubs, and bars; as well as no shortage of excellent hotels and apartments. For most people, Handon is synonymous with Schottia, and it is often the case that visitors rarely take time to see some of the more remote, rural communities. Built on a peninsula, the south of the city is what many would consider to be the 'city centre.' As well as being the location of Harbour Hill Stadium, it is also home to all of the main administrative buildings, and the more affluent parts of the city.

Travel
Getting to Schottia is reasonably straight forward, if not a little time consuming. Despite the fact that the country consists of five islands, it is unlikely that many visitors will arrive by sea, due to the distances involved. Almost everyone arriving in the country, either fans or players, will fly into Handon International Airport. H.I.A handles almost all of the nation's incoming flights, as well as being a main stop off northwest in or out of the region. Anyone arriving by sea will most likely dock at the ferry terminal in Granton, just to the north of Handon.

Travel within Schottia is usually pretty painless. Public transport it well funded, and free bus and tram services make getting around the cities cheap, and stress free. For longer distances, all major towns and cities are connected by a high-speed rail service. Schottic citizens pay high levels of tax, but one of the plus sides is that they have a public transport system that works.

Languages
The official languages of Schottia are Scots, English, German, and French, however, English is the one most likely to be heard in the streets. Most people living in Schottia are multilingual, speaking combinations of the four national languages, depending on the area they were born. In addition to this, there is a heavy emphasis on languages in schools from the age of five onwards, meaning that it is not unusual for Schottians to speak up to four or five of the main regional languages with some degree of fluency.

Weather
Most of Schottia has a temperate maritime climate, with warm summers typically around 25°C, and cool snowy winters ranging from -8 to +8°C. Whatever time of the year you're fans and players are visiting Schottia, it is likely to be wet, and it's perhaps best to bring an umbrella.

Currency and Shopping
The currency in Schottia is the Schottic Pound. The current exchange rate is just under two NS dollars to the pound, meaning that certain luxury goods might seem expensive. On the flip side of this, food in the supermarkets is available at cost price, as is clothing in government stores - the same can also be said for most non-luxury items. Schottia isn't exactly one of the world's main shopping centres, and strict rules on advertising can often mean that the High Streets can seem a little drab to those more used to eye-catching posters, and flashy billboards. That said, the larger more international cities of Soessch and Handon have their fair share of fashion outlets, and foreign eateries. While these regulations might have limited the expansion of international businesses, the gap in the market has been filled up small independent clothing boutiques, family-run bars, and restaurants.

Fans
Schottic fans are generally peaceful, and are solely there to have a good time. Apart from the fact that your city's bars will be ram packed before and after the matches you shouldn’t expect any trouble from them. They are prone to picking out the opposition's foibles with their catchy (and not particularly witty) chants, but is always meant in good humour.

Investigations into the tumultuous reign of Jeremy Jaffacake as NSWC President eventually resulted in the withdrawal of the FFA from international football for the period of one cycle, citing the necessity of tackling corruption within its own ranks and the sheer embarassment of being associated with one Jeremy Jaffacake.

Players retired from international football in their droves, leaving a very new-look Audioslavia side in cycle eighty. Roddy Fraser is the only Audioslavian not to hang up his boots in disgust at the FFA, but then Roddy Fraser is also in the posession of a superpower wherein he can make one 'save file' per game and return to it if he feels the need. Suffice to say, nobody in the world knows about this, else he'd be banned for life. He's the only 'magic' footballer ever to have come out of Audioslavia, unless you count the wonderul Weverton Sporadic who was awesome back in the day.

Audioslavia go into the new World Cup very light on creative midfield talent. New manager Dragan Kryznjak (formerly a star striker for the national team) has had to opt for a defensive line-up, with five at the back for the first time in decades for the national team. Earl Van den Brink will lead the defence despite earning his first caps at the ripe age of thirty-one. Surrounding him are decent if unspectacular defenders and a very suspect midfield in the form of Borjon (bench player at 1830 Cathair), Boiteux (of struggling Tout-Puissant) and a capable yet uninspiring Vincente Dupont of Ulsa.

Up front, Fraser and Kuznetsov are physically dominant, like Kryznjak was in his day, but have never played together in the same team.

Ranked outside the top thirty-two for the first time in seventeen cycles, Audioslavia won't set the world alight this time round. Just qualifying for the greatest show on earth will be enough to prove this mondial a success though older fans, who grew up with the national team being world-beaters, will most likely be left frustrated.

Home Away

Manager
Tobias Möller Image
Age: 52
There are few managers who would have had the mental fortitude to endure what the Marauders endured last World Cup cycle and still decide to stay on to the job and even keep on after the World Cup. The Marauders really lucked out to get a man as loyal and as driven to prove his doubters wrong as they have in the Pasargan Tobias Möller, with the former international striker looking to guide this hodgepodge of players into true World Cup contention, so long as the hero quartet can continue to live up to their name

Assistant Manager
Wisdom Tracey Image (F)
Age: 34
Tracey is far more defensive minded than what Vanorians are used to and would much prefer to see the side playing in a diamond midfield, but with the VSC saying that she will be considered for the job once Möller resigns from the position, she is content to be patient and help sure up the Marauders notorious backline faults in an attempt to build up her own profile.

Keeper

1 Sean Smørdal, Starling Image
Age - 22
Sex - M
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 181 lbs
Tall, athletic, and with reflexes that would make a cat proud, Smørdal is thought to be the solution to the Marauder's question between the pipes and solution to what has been an age old problem for the side. Deciding to leave the Eternal Empire's shores for that of Nephara is a decision that will be heavily scrutinized back home for years, but if the young keeper can come up good for the national team shirt, the Navy Wave will embrace him with open arms all the same. The question will be has the young keeper gotten enough game time in Nephara to be in match shape when he is called upon for the national team, being the clear second choice for the time being for his club.

Defenders

2 Tidaugion Runbrinonel, Chromatik Image
Age - 602
Sex - M
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 184 lbs
Runbrinonel is a leader and a good defensive player but like so many of the elves who have stay, he seems to be languishing in some sort of depressed state. It may be that the elven players will have to call it a career soon if this is some sort of mental state that they are unable to shake, though for the moment he has a role to play in order to lead the collection of players who have been brought in to represent the Eternal Empire. While there might be something more magical at work with the players, Runbrinonel has the professional attitude to still get his job done.

3 Seve Vásquez Image , Mar Sara FC
Age - 26
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 175 lbs
A former Sunrisian, Vásquez has been in Valanora for over five years and was quick to answer the call when the Marauders were in desperate need of professional players for the World Cup Finals after the Calling happened. He has fairly good pace for a man of his size but his main strength is battering opposing attacking players out of the box with the force of a rampaging oxen, though he is not quick to temper, making him well suited to the Marauders' style of play.

4 Eva Fotland, SC Rinaldi
Age - 30
Sex - F
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 157 lbs
Fotland was not really in the consideration for the national team, given her age and just started playing football five years ago, however she showed quite a bit of grit and footballing acumen over the last two season, especially this last season when Rinaldi conceded just twenty-five goals in the season that she has found her way into the team and starting. Her pace is not quite up to what you would expect with Vanorian athletes, though you wouldn't know it with how she always seems to be in the right place at the right time to intercept an attack.

Midfield

21 Espy va Drake, 1830 Cathair Image
Age: 771
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 159 lbs
After becoming a folklore hero for the lower class of the world, va Drake has made himself one of the living legends of the game after help leading the side to a title in World Cup 53. He has traveled far and wide while plying his trade, donning kits for no less than five countries clubs. Seen as the driving force in the middle of the park alongside Hawk, it is up to the opposition to try and figure out how to deal with the brilliance the winger and his other attackers have rather than them to create magic.

6 Yuki Hatsune Image, FC Capri
Age -22
Sex - M
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 147 lbs
This young midfielder was born in the Sunrise Islands but came to Valanora at an early age and has really blossomed over the last three seasons to a versatile midfielder, though he prefers to play a little further up the pitch in a more attacking role. He's got an accurate shot from long range and can mix it up with most other players in the middle in those fifty-fifty balls, though he would prefer to leave that part of the game to the defenders and more defensive minded midfielders.

10 Laborious Hawk, AC Izotz Zubia Image
Age - 735
Sex -M
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 213 lbs
Words do not even begin to define his talent, his talent defines words. He was awarded one of the spots that the Vanorians have in the World Cup Hall of Fame, with it being very well deserved, as he has and continues to earn everything he has been given every single day. Hawk simply strives to be the very best footballer, captain, and teammate that there can be, with the hunger for perfection driving him forth on and off the pitch.

8 Ilglerdiriel Lithvathar, Raynor City United
Age - 741
Sex - F
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 149 lbs
Lithvathar is much like va Drake, a floater who is dynamic in attack but with enough speed and sense of the pitch to make up on any sort of defensive lapse. Yet unlike her flankmate, she is not nearly as skilled, but do not let that fool you, in a moment of magic she can undress an entire backline and set up more prolific scorers with easy chances.

7 Faeron Soldarian, 1830 Cathair Image
Age - 649
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 163 lbs
Soldarian continues to live in the shadow of more well known players both on the national team and with his club. Despite this, Soldarian is seen by all on the squad as the emotional leader and the linchpin the in the middle that allows the more attacking minded midfielders being allowed to play their game.

Strikers

9 Allandren Fresco, Ibini FC
Age - 524
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 167 lbs
Fresco continues to lead the line of the attack, being the tip of the spear that is the Marauders offensive movement. By now most teams know of the striker's pace and near laser guided shot, however the striker still somehow finds ways to bring in the goals.

11 Fionn Lynch Image , SC Rinaldi
Age - 31
Sex - M
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 170 lbs
Lynch proved to be a pivotal player for the Marauders during the Finals of the last World Cup and those in the Eternal Empire will be ever thankful for his presence and decision to switch nationalities, even if maybe it was done for selfish reasons. With the human Vanorian players starting to slowly get their bearings and Lynch getting older, this will likely be his last chance at bringing home a World Cup trophy. Age has not yet began to detiorate his skills or pace and knowing that it might start at any moment will no doubt be driving the striker forward ever more to give all that he can in order to achieve his dream before it is time to hang up his boots.

Manager: Image Elidyr Lyndainium • Formation: 4-4-2

It's been a long while since Mercedini has made the step up to the big time and qualified for the World Cup, with their only successful qualification coming in the 77th edition of the competition, where they won their first ever game, but were subsequently knocked out after finishing third in their group. Following two consecutive disappointing qualification campaigns, the Golden Eagles return to the scene for the 80th edition, with their ranking just outside of the top thirty-two, meaning they will almost certainly have to overcome a nation from a higher pot to qualify for the tournament, something which they haven't done in the any of the past two editions. Cenian manager Elidyr Lyndainium renews his role as manager, taking the team into their second World Cup. Last time round, they narrowly missed out on a World Cup spot in a qualification decider against Abanhfleft which ended in a 2-2 draw, however the Golden Eagles required a win, and were relegated to the Cup of Harmony for the fourth time. There, their run was even more disappointing than previous attempts, claiming only a single point and finishing bottom of the group, despite going into the tournament as one of the highest ranking nations. So, let's see whether Mercedini can end their streak of three non-qualifications and punch their ticket to Starblaydia and the Equestrian States.

GOALKEEPERS Name Age Club
GK Martin Hovek 25 Image Langtree United
GK Daniel Hosset 23 Image Zoloroni City
GK Callum Polasic 30 Image Cenial City FC
GK Rainard Tatius 30 Image Elspachia

Four goalkeepers to pick from during qualification, with all the major players keeping their place in the side following decent performances for their domestic sides plus their continued good form for their national team. Only one change made by Lyndainium, which produced a maiden call-up for Elspachia's goalkeeper Rainard Tatius, who replaces youth prospect Lukas Poyek who failed to earn a cap for the team at the World Cup during the last cycle. Clean sheets will be on the agenda for the players and the coaching staff, in hope that that will complete half of the equation when it comes to grinding out results. The four goalkeeper strategy seemed to work the first time, with the squad having a suitable amount of depth for the long and arduous group schedule. Goalkeepers are the final line of defence in many circumstances, meaning plenty of pressure is put on them throughout the game.

DEFENDERS

CB Artem Vasilyshin 28 Image RFK Ogdenagorv

RB Issac Catessic 27 Image Soldarian FC
RB Noah Park 30 Image Zoloroni Metropolitan
RB Thomas Di Sansev 19 Image OAS Royal FC

Not too many changes in the defensive line-up, either. With only a single change from the roster that was sent to the World Cup 79 Qualifiers. A first call-up for Artem Vasilyshin from RFK Ogdenagorv will have a chance of earning his first cap for his nation, becoming the first player from the team to earn a senior call-up for Mercedini. Aside from that, there are plenty of familiar faces on the roster with main central defenders Ossun and Dosic keeping their places on the team, with Dosic finally moving away from Elspachia to the Gwinevra Barbarians from Apox, following his successful loan move to Cenian side Myrmidon. The other player who has moved since the previous World Cup is Issac Catessic, who now plays for Vanorian side Soldarian FC after departing Natanians & Nosts' side The Northern Blue Lions during the off-season. Plenty of representation of different leagues in this roster, with players from five different leagues included in the defensive roster alone.

MIDFIELDERS

The midfield area has always been a strong point of the Mercedinian national team, with plenty of depth both position-wise and age-wise, with many contributing the U18 World Cup victory to a strong midfield able to control the play against some of the world's best youth teams. Some of that has been transferred to the main team, but with the amount of different nations participating, all with different strengths and tactics, it's always going to be difficult to find a regimen that works for everything. Plenty of big names still in the roster with Nymark, Presic, Crasic and Karlovic all included in the upcoming qualification campaign. The only change being young prospect Lawrence Garzallo being included after his efforts in the Zoloroni Metropolitan team. Representation is big in this portion of the roster with five separate league with players included in qualification, with many more expected to get involved in the upcoming transfer window.

ST Daniel Dostalok 22 Image Handon United
ST Ben Chillotov 21 Image 1860 Azoth
ST Sgt. Sam Billic 32 Image Myrmidon
ST Dimitri Lamorka 27 Image AFC Langtree

Five players, five goal scorers, four leagues. Those are the easy to view stats of the attacking roster with the four horsemen of the apocalypse included once again to represent Mercedini, with Chillotov and Dostalok leading the way for the Golden Eagles. The one change means Dimitri Lamorka has been called up to replace Misha Spartoni, but with the main emphasis on the other four strikers, he may not be able to get a look in with the insane amount of squad depth on offer to the Cenian manager. Chillotov and Dostalok are now battling for the Billic throne in the style of your favourite HBO fantasy-drama series, now that the veteran Mercedinian and Myrmidon striker has turned 32. Chillotov has the more caps and goals, however the Handon United striker has plenty of backing in Schottia, and has a near even caps to goals ratio. They will need to combine in order to get past a treacherous qualification path and get Mercedini back into the top tier of international football.

The prosperous capital of Mercedini is the stage for the Mercedinian campaign for World Cup Qualification once again. The Zoloroni Sports City Stadium was built in 2012 and has been the national team's home stadium since it was built. The stadium used to hold over 61,000 people, but a recent refurbishment meant that the capacity has increased by approximately 13,000 with the new capacity sitting at roughly 74,500 with the new visiting allocation still being just less than a quarter of that at 18,000. The stadium has hosted a Baptism of Fire final and an Independent's Cup third-place play-off, those matches acombined with the fact that it's hosts Zoloroni City on a weekly basis and the national team on an annual basis means the stadium is accustomed to regular football featuring the nation's and the multiverse's best teams. Mercedinians and visiting spectators who don't have tickets can have a drink in one of the many bars and pubs or they can chill in the World Cup FanZone where they can watch the matches on the big screens along with other football enthusiasts.

Mercedini has two national languages and both are universally spoken in the nation as children are taught both at a young age. Mercedinian is the native language of all citizens and is based around the Italian language, knowing the language isn't paramount to a tourist's experience but Mercedinians always appreciate a foreigner attempting to communicate in the Mercedinian language. If learning a foreign language isn't your thing then English is also universally spoken throughout the nation (especially in cities and other metropolitan areas as it is considered the language of business and commerce). It is common for Mercedinians to speak more than one language, however Google Translate is only a couple of clicks away if you need it.

Mercedini's national currency is the Yvroni (¥) and is used universally for the nation's transactions. Currently, the Yvroni is a strong and reliable currency with 1.56 NationStates Dollars equalling 1 Yvroni (¥0.64 = 1 NS$). Goods & Services in Mercedini are comparably cheap thanks to low operating costs, free-trade deals and low import tariffs for foreign goods. Citizens of Mercedini are pretty well-off with average incomes topping ¥145,000 (226,822 NS$) which means luxury goods & services are as much a part of Mercedinian shopping-culture as the bargains.

Food & Drink is considered a pillar of Mercedinian culture, which means visitors are literally in for a treat when they visit one of the nations many cafes, restaurants, bars or pubs. As previously mentioned, integration has played a large part in the cuisine, but ultimately Mercedinian cuisine has stayed largely close to it's roots. Mercedinian cuisine, like the language, is based on Italian cuisine, with flavourful pasta and rice dishes on offer, along with pizzas and stuffed flatbreads perfect for carnivores and vegetarians. For the tourists, dishes from their home nation will always be on offer which means that visitors can always have a taste of home while enjoying the action in Mercedini.

As it is the official capital city of Mercedini as well as the commercial hub of the nation, Zoloroni is large bustling city littered with modern skyscrapers and office buildings. Zoloroni will be at the centre of the action, holding the host arena as well as hosting most of the pre-festival events that will happen in Mercedini. Visitors will not be disappointed as Zoloroni has restaurants, shops and sightseeing trips in abundance, meaning that performers and fans have plenty of activities waiting for them on their off-days. Zoloroni's main attraction is the Sports City and the shopping centres located just a small journey away from the city centre.

Mercedinans are generally very peaceful to visitors and will only lash out if they are provoked. As a nation, Mercedini welcomes new visitors with open arms and hopes every tourist has a great experience in our nation. Andiamo!

If you want to know more about Mercedini before you visit, feel free to TG me about life in the country

Football History

Football in Ceni has only recently began to take off in popularity. Even though football has been present in Ceni for a good majority of the time that it has been settled, other sports, mainly tennis, badminton, and squash, held precedence in Cenian sporting life. For the most part, society gave football barely a passing glance as Ceni built its dominance in tennis. As the popularity of football grew in the last decade, however, pressure grew for the Cenian government to create a national team and send it to compete with the world's best. First, however, it would play in the 54th Baptism of Fire against other nations new to international football. In what was perhaps an ill omen for the rest of Ceni's international football campaigns, the Sarian, later to reach the final, crushed Ceni. In the group stage, Ceni barely managed one win before qualifying for the playoffs on goal difference, where they defeated Bonny in only their second win of the tournament, winning the opportunity to face eventual champion Buyan in the Round of 16. Although Ceni played valiantly, Buyan won, 1-0, in a not-surprising scoreline.

After its poor showing in the Baptism of Fire, Ceni embarked on its first World Cup qualification campaign. Not many people payed attention, and the team, led by Pablito Numede, managed to scrape up a few points before going home in ignominy. If one could say that Ceni's first qualification campaign was a three-year-old's small beach bucket, Ceni's second campaign barely made a drop in that bucket. The short description: nobody really cared. Sure, maybe some people were disappointed by the team's quite awful performance, but the general populace shrugged. In World Cup 69, Ceni finally started caring about its World Cup qualification prospects. Unsurprisingly, they weren't good. Although Ceni did manage to secure draws against Felix and Chiata, and a win against the then-twenty-ninth-ranked Super-Llamaland, it was not enough to make even a small dent in the large wall separating Ceni from World Cup qualification. In World Cup 70, Ceni had a real chance at qualifying. Despite falling 2-9 down to Audioslavia, Ceni notched a win against the second seed Neu Engollon to get a chance to defeat Electrum in a last-match day decider at home. Apparently the gods of fate were not smiling on the Cenian team, for the team fell by one goal, ending hopes of a playoff spot and World Cup qualification. Ceni's prospects had come so close, yet they were as far away as ever. At the Cup of Harmony, Ceni defeated Neu Engollon again, and shockingly defeated world number 9 and eventual champion Turori, ending a losing slide against the top 10. However, Ceni could not end its losing slide against Electrum, whom they faced in the Round of 16, losing for the third time in a row.

Ceni came back yet again for World Cup 71. It started disappointingly, with a loss to Zenic and a draw to the hitherto-unknown Octinstine courtesy of an Alliance for Cenian Future ploy. After that, Ceni won against second seed Barunia. On paper, the second half of qualification should have been good enough: four wins, one against top seed Blouman Empire, and three draws. Unfortunately, the draws were against Zenic at home and against the minnow Aynard, ranked in the three hundreds, and they sealed Ceni's doom. Soothsayers and gamblers who bet on Ceni's failure were the only ones celebrating. Without the disappointing draws to the bottom of the group, Ceni would have made the playoff spot; with five more points against Zenic, Ceni would have qualified outright. Alas, the gods of fate had conspired against Ceni once again, and Ceni would move to the Cup of Harmony at home. It performed decently. Despite draws to Kazamatsuri and Matthewsiana in the group stage, Ceni managed to advance to the Round of 16, where it defeated Darvale to reach the quarterfinals and Mizuyuki on penalties to reach the semifinals. It lost to Valanora, hardly surprising, and Saintland in the third place match, but Ceni finally had made somewhat of a mark in international football. It felt it was ready to qualify.

However, the dream did not come to fruition. In World Cup 72 qualification, the team lost to Barunia, a team it had beaten in World Cup 71, on the first match day and drew the 279th ranked Welcomzia. It then lost to the successor of Mizuyuki, Kirisaki, and drew with the 100th ranked side Vermark. Ceni's losses and disappointments kept coming, losing to minnows Emperor Pudu and Atrua. While the draws against Aynard and Octinstine were disturbing at best and heartbreaking at worst, Cenian supporters were crushed by their spell of bad luck during World Cup 72. A target for their fury was manager Osman Ibarra, who was sacked by the Cenian Football Federation, and replaced by Kirk Koromin, father of star Kel Koromin and manager of Tir Snake Strike, Ceni's best club. The switch seemed to have improved morale by a bit, as the team got revenge on Welcomzia, Vermark, and Atrua (all by the score of 3-2) and drew Kirisaki. However, it was not enough, as the pesky Emperor Pudu managed to defeat Ceni, and Ceni did not qualify, with a low take of 18 points. Surprisingly, however, Ceni improved one spot in the rankings, to forty-fourth. At this seemingly happy news, however, Cenian officials rued that they could have advanced into the top 40 with a better performance. It came to the Cup of Harmony facing an identity crisis and a crisis of leadership. However, its Cup of Harmony - a let's see our problems run for new coach Kirk Koromin - did not work out so well, with a loss to Barunia in the Group Stage as well as a heartbreaking penalty kick defeat to Chiata in the Round of 16. Ceni came to the World Cup cautiously optimistic and hoped that it would finally qualify on its seventh attempt.

Finally Ceni achieved their goal in World Cup 73 on their seventh attempt. Led by Jaime del Olmo and Kel Koromin, the team once again fell to the Opening Match Curse, suffering a defeat to Matthewsiania away, but rebounded after that, only losing once thereafter. Among notable games were the 6-6 draw with Free Republics and the 2-1 win away against HopNation. The World Cup also marked the debut of manager Kirk Koromin in World Cup qualifiers and the Cenial Halcyon National Stadium, at which the national team has never lost. The team was second in their group and drew Gregoryisgodistan, which they beat on a penalty shootout at home with a maxed-out crowd of cheering fans. Finally Ceni had made it to the World Cup, where they lost to regional rivals Eura and Cosumar before beating (guess who) Free Republics for their first ever World Cup win on their first try. Ceni directly qualified for World Cup 74, winning its group, including two wins over top seed Northern Sunrise Islands. They entered the World Cup hopeful, drawing with Apox before losing to hosts San Jose Guayabal. They were confident against Gregoryisgodistan, with a place in the round of 16 on the line. They knew they could win the match - yet they managed to lose somehow, one to nil, denying them a chance in the second round and disappointing many. In World Cup 75, the qualifiers went through in a breeze, with the team going 13-1-0 in their best qualifying run in their history. In the World Cup Finals, however, they could not break their streak of group stage finishes, drawing with Barunia 0-0 and with Pasarga 2-2 but disappointingly drawing 0-0 with Ficiscia to deny them a spot in the knockout rounds yet again. In World Cup 76, the team was hoping to finally go deep in the World Cup, and they reached their first knockout round in the team's history, after defeating bogeyman Ficiscia 5-2 and World Cup veteran Osarius 3-2. In the octofinals, they defeated #2 seed Valladares 5-2 before proceeding to lose 4-1 to San Jose Guayabal in the quarterfinals. Although it was a disappointing finish, at least the team managed their best World Cup performance ever, and they were hoping to capitalize on that performance in San Jose Guayabal and Quebec. Despite their hopes and dreams, though, they were not able to; although they rampaged through their qualifying group, in their World Cup group stage, they choked to Anglatia and therefore failed to advance.

In the next cycle, they did not even qualify for the World Cup itself after squandering a 6-point lead in the first half of qualifiers by drawing with (and losing to) a succession of lower-ranked teams before a draw with Turori basically sealed their fate. They entered the Cup of Harmony knowing they were be the tournament's second seed, and hoping they could win it all to make up for their failure in the World Cup... And they didn't, crashing out to the third pot team of Aggrey-Fynn Land in the Round of 16, promptly firing manager Elidyr Lyndainium and replacing him with 1860 Azoth coach Luke Longstar, fresh off his heels from winning a Terranean League title. Longstar won a series of important friendlies and decided to enter the team's first Copa Rushmori, fielding an experimental lineup to gauge his players' depth. There, the team made it to the semifinals before being crushed by the likes of Eura and Pasarga. Hoping that a home soil World Cup will finally lead to the success they deserve, the team reached the quarterfinals, defeating Nephara on penalty kicks before losing to Farfadillis in the same fashion.

Home Stadium

Cenial Halcyon National Stadium, Cenial, capacity 85,000
Image

Newly built to host a tournament like the Baptism of Fire several years ago, the Cenial Halcyon National Stadium hosts most of the Cenian national team's home matches. With a capacity of 85,000, the stadium has an unique roof which is retractable in case of inclement weather, preserving the optimal climate for spectators inside the stadium. The stadium also has won plaudits from national team players who say the stadium is one of the best grass pitches they have played on. Cenial United also hosts its home matches in this stadium. The stadium is currently the biggest in all of Ceni at this point and is fairly close to both of the major airports in Ceni, easily accessible by subway to those areas as well as most other areas of Cenial. It was built by the renowned Sky High Architecture in a southern area of Ceni, near the sea.

When elected as the host of the Baptism of Fire, the Cenian FA decided to upgrade some of the facilities at the stadium, including the press box and VIP box, as well as installing WiFi access for all seats, following the example of the Alexander I National Stadium. Notably in the history of the Cenial Halcyon Stadium, Ceni has never lost at this stadium when it was first used during qualifying for World Cup 73, and the Cenian national team defeated Gregoryisgodistan on penalty kicks to qualify for its first ever World Cup. The Halcyon National Stadium counts itself as one of the greenest buildings in Ceni, making use of solar panels wherever possible, recycling water and heat through its system (so that water used to water the pitch can be used in the toilets, etc.), making use of recycled materials in constructions, and other eco-friendly measures to reduce its energy footprint.

Cenial
Cenial is Ceni’s capital city; as such, the Cenian executive, legislative, and judicial branches are all located in Cenial. The Prime Minister has his home and offices here; office buildings for executive departments are also located in Cenial. The capitol building of Ceni, the meeting place for the Cenian Assembly, was recently redesigned and sits at the head of a park stretching to the President’s home. Judicially, the highest court in Ceni, the Supreme Court, meets here, as well as one of Ceni’s eight appellate courts. In elections, Cenial’s citizens are very active, with more than 85% turnout in national elections and 75% turnout in local elections.

Cenial attracts people from all over the region and the world with its world-class universities—the University of Ceni and the University of Cenial its two most prominent. The University of Ceni is renowned for its instruction in architecture, business, the humanities and history, politics, and law, while the University of Cenial focuses its academic investments in the science section. In fact, the University of Cenial is a leading research university in the fields of biotechnology and engineering.

A large part of Cenial consists of parks and greenery. One of the largest parks in the nation, Lake Cenial Park, stretches along the coast of Lake Cenial and provides opportunities for hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking, Frisbee golf, and just plain old fun with friends and family. In the spring, when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, Lake Cenial Park is a very pretty sight, and its beautiful fountains are available year-round for all to enjoy. Another major park in Cenial is the Capitol Mall, a park stretching from the Capitol to the President’s House, with its memorial reflecting pool. Other green attractions in Cenial include the Japanese garden, in that section of the city, with its beautiful ponds, pagoda, and rock garden section for peaceful meditation, and the National Botanical Garden, with specimens from all over the world and exhibits of most major climates in the region. Not only is Cenial renowned for its green spaces, it is also renowned for its green attitude. Cenial is among the world’s leading cities in the proliferation of green technology, with a large number of buildings with energy saving measures. Many homes have solar panels, and the government has invested money into increasing the amount of renewable energy in the city; around 35% of the city’s electricity comes from renewable sources.

Cenial has a tolerant attitude and welcomes people from all over the world. As a result, Cenial has an incredibly diverse population. People from all over the world—from Asia, Africa, the Social Liberal Union, and all other regions of the world—have chosen to make Cenial their home. Because Cenial is very welcoming to all people, including refugees, Cenial supports a large population from Ciqi and Coconutstan, two countries ravaged by war. Because of its ethnic diversity, Cenial also has religious and language diversity. Hundreds of languages are spoken in different parts of Cenial, although English is mainly used in day-to-day communication. Religiously, no single religion makes up a majority of the population of Cenial. Atheism is the major religion in Cenial, with around 30% of people, although Christianity (almost equally split between Catholics and Protestants) (25%) and Islam (15%) both make up significant fractions of the population. Cenial has one of the world’s largest and most significant Chinatowns, while Little Saigon and Little Lyndainium are also significant ethnic enclaves. Ethnically, Cenians, Avaerilonians, Eurans, Electrumites, and Spanish make up a total of 75% of Cenial’s population, and there is a large diversity in the remaining 25%.

Cenial, as the cultural center of Ceni, is Ceni’s hub for performing arts. Cenial has the largest number of theatres, concert halls, and exhibition centers in all of Ceni. Cenial’s Royal Shakespearian Theatre Company is well renowned for its performances of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as other plays of Victorian English authors. Because of its diversity, Cenial has a large variety of ethnic restaurants of all kinds—from Westerheimian and Avaerilonian to Persian and Vietnamese, which are found mostly in ethnic sections of the city. Homemade Chinese noodles can be found in Chinatown, while Vietnamese culture is prevalent in Little Saigon. There are a number of excellent Avaerilonian restaurants in Little Lyndainium. Popular street foods in Cenial include Middle Eastern and Indian dishes. In the city centre, there are a large number of upscale restaurants catering to legislators, lobbyists, and richer tourists, while small cafes serving Cenian cuisine dot corner sides. Because of Ceni’s proximity to, and reliance on, the sea, Cenian cuisine places a large emphasis on fish and seafood. Popular Cenian dishes include Cenial Clam Chowder, widely regarded as one of the world’s best, various fish stews, and fish & chips. Other significant Cenian dishes contain crab, lobster, sea scallop, and cod. Alcoholic beverages are fairly common in Ceni, and there are a fair number of pubs, including some chain and local pubs. Cavalier Brewpubs and Machu Picchu Pubs, two famous chains, both originated out of Cenial. At night, a fair number of nightclubs serve alcoholic drinks and provide the citizen or tourist with the opportunity to party.

About Ceni

Ceni is a small island country of around 5500 km2 located in the eastern parts of the Rushmori region of Terranea. Although it has no land borders, the nearest countries are Electrum, from which it is separated in the west by a narrow strait, and the Isles of Avon, a small republic located to the east in the same island chain. With a population of just over 13 million, this makes Ceni one of the densest countries in Rushmore, at around 2360 people per sq km. Ceni is also one of the most urbanized countries in Rushmore, with the three major cities, Cenial, the capital, City Centre, and New Oxford, forming one large urban agglomeration, with the city petering out around the edges of the metropolis. Climate-wise, Ceni has a temperate oceanic climate, with the influence of the ocean helping to moderate both the summers and the winters - temperatures are almost never extreme either way, cold or hot.

Historically, Ceni was first settled by a group of people, ancestors of the Fererldan, who spoke a language, Ancient Cenian, that is almost extinct except for a few speakers (but it survives in many Cenian names, both surnames and given names), which is related to modern day Avaerilonian (the prevailing theory suggests that these people migrated from an area in New Gelderland, across a land bridge to Ceni, and then across to Avaerilon, where they settled later in time). The name Ceni itself comes from a corruption of an Ancient Cenian word for 'White Cliffs', which described the cliffs near the present day Dover. These people stayed in the area around Cenial for a while until a group of settlers from Eura arrived and settled in the southern half of Ceni, displacing some of these populations. A Spanish population from Valladares arrived and set up a colony in the north of Ceni, hoping to set up a port for the growing nation, but when the city of Junin was settled, these settlers were disappointed, nonetheless deciding to stay and send seafood to the Valladar communities as well as lobbying the government to set up a port in the north. These communities formed the backbone of a thriving Hispanic population in Ceni.

In the face of a rising Euran threat, these various colonies - the Fereldic population, the Spanish in the North, and Euran/Cenian mix in the South - decided to unify their solitary island in order to coordinate their defenses and reduce infighting. As the Euran threat died down, the Cenian government retooled its economy to provide services and goods to the growing Euran industrial economy while still remaining a bit on edge. As the economy bloomed, a group of Avaerilonian refugees settled in Ceni after escaping one of that country's long wars, establishing a Cenian tradition. These refugees contributed to Ceni's rising high-tech and service economy as the country moved into the 21st century.

Ceni's government is a parliamentary system with a one-chambered parliament, the Cenian Assembly, which has 225 representatives in it; the Prime Minister is the head of government, while a ceremonial President is the head of state. More locally, Ceni is divided into 14 districts, which serve to administer most of the government's services to the people and giving them local control, with a Chief Minister heading the government in each district; most districts have a District Council of either 7 or 9 councilpersons, headed by the Chief Minister. The Cenian people love their elections, with more than 80% turnout most times. Economically, Ceni has a large financial sector along with large pharmaceutical, high-tech, education, real estate sectors, and renewable energy sector. Ceni has a large GDP due to its proximity to Eura and the Euran economy and also a large GDP per capita, one of the largest in the region. Cenians enjoy a high standard of living as well as a large social welfare net and free education, courtesy of a Scandinavian-style liberal government.

Melbergia
World Cup 80 Squadlist

Image

Following many years in the international footballing wilderness, Melbergia are back for another stab at World Cup qualification.

A promising third place finish in the latest installment of the U18 World Cup has given fans some hope for the future of their nation's side, however for now it is the old guard who will try to steer this side somewhere near to qualification. A tough ask indeed.

There is a nod towards Melbergia's excellent U18 performance in the inclusion of winger Dalton Surlow into the senior squad. Surlow turned many heads at the youth tournament, and holds the burden of hope upon his young shoulders.

The 23-man squad selected due qualification is as follows -

MANAGERIAL STAFF
Manager: Lysander Ying Uing
In what is all but guaranteed to be his last season in charge of the side Ying Uing continues to be a pariah to the fans and many think that his coaching lacks any sort of actual ability. The thing is he was a strong player for the team and continues to be a legend, but he does not continue to get results, and that will lead to his firing.
Assistant Manager: Peter Wiggin
The second in command continues to be a strong possible future head manager. That said it seems like he wants nothing to do with the position. He will probably not fully follow in Ender’s footsteps and allow someone younger, with better ideas take over at this campaign’s end.

GOALKEEPERS

1 – Jacob Jingleheimer-Smitt – Blacklake Blues 37 Caps, 23 Years Old
The Blacklake stopper has had his fair share of strong games for club and country, but has had a fair bit of failures in his campaigns as well. His play continues to be much better than anything else for the national team, but from level to level many are hoping he can put it all together soon.
12 – Elvis Pacabel - Atlantea Hurricanes 1 Cap, 22 Years Old
The backup keeper has been a strong player for Atlantea and could be a big part of the upcoming Copa Rushmori campaigns. That said for the most part he seems unlikely to be of impact in the qualifying campaigns.
24– Esteban Foh – X Island Marauders 1 Cap, 18 Years Old
Esteban is a strong young goalkeeper and could be called upon a few times in the next few seasons before eventually he takes over one day as the new keeper. Unless like many goalkeepers of Taeshan past, he gets passed by some younger, faster keeper by the time his predecessor gives up the gloves.

DEFENDERS

2 - LB, Alex Turniquette – X Island Marauders 60 Caps, 1 Goal, 25 Years Old
The speedy left-back has been a big part of the success of the Taeshani defense, as well as having his moments in the attack. For the most part he has been a strong part of the team over the last half decade and could be a main reason it returns to the world cup.

3 - CB, Jamie Fasnacht – Blacklake Blues 32 Caps, 0 Goals, 22 Years Old
One half of the center back pairing, Fasnacht is the game-reading player and is a strong part of breaking up opposing attacks. With strong defense he can help the team qualify for the World Cup.

4 - CB, Edison Trueblood – Blacklake Blues 32 Caps, 0 Goals, 22 Years Old
The big center back for the national team, Trueblood has pushed himself to become better at the more tactical ideas and now is looking really strong as an option moving forward.

5 - RB, Alexander Kaiba - Real Atlantea 75 Caps, 27 Years Old
The strong right back, Kaiba has been known for his attacking skill, but as he has aged his defensive ability has grown and that could be a key part of the national team succeeding in the upcoming years.

14- Seth Green– Knightspurs 2 Caps, 0 Goals, 21 Years Old
The backup Fullback on the side, Green made his first appearance in the Copa Rushmori and could likely see more in the qualifiers. While not the sexiest national team addition, he likely seems a possible option to replace Kaiba one day.

21 – Daigo Coshan – Laketown Rangers 0 Caps, 18 Years Old
Interestingly the best option moving forward could be a tactical switch, which the side has not seen in decades. Coshan is probably a better center back than either of the other two, but still has a lot to learn. A 3-5-2 could be in the future, especially as the rest of the squad grows as well.

23- Nelson Cartwright – Fadron Flight 1 Cap, 21 Years Old
Nelson Cartwright can also be a defensive option, but as he has grown older his use has seemed to transition from a defensive midfield option, to a tweener at the back line. He could be used in multiple late game closing situations.
MIDFIELDERS

6- CDM, Randall Abl Bakr – Tintown Terrapins 47 Caps, 3 Goals, 21 Years old
The defensive playmaker Abl Bakr is well on his way to being one of the most capped players in a long time with half a century before his 22nd birthday. With his club situation in the balance it seems likely that he may be moving out of Tintown with a strong qualifying performance.

6 - LM, Janson Jewsbury – Laketown Rangers 69 Caps, 5 Goals, 26 Years Old Vice-Captain
The Vice-Captain led a huge comeback for Laketown In the last club season, while unable to win the title, Jewsbury continues to be one of the most in form players on the squad and a strong season from him could lead to qualification.

10- CAM, Enrique Fuegahita – Real Chinchinhua 114 Caps, 11 Goals, 28 Years Old
The playmaker in the attack, Fuegahita is nearing the end of his international career but he continues to age like a fine wine. He is a strong player, and with some more youth around him that could help his string pulling in the years to come.

11 - RM, Geoffrey Klingenberg - Knightspurs 15 Caps, 3 Goals, 20 Years Old
While dropping behind his young mate Randall Abl Bakr in Caps, Klingenberg has proved probably the more vital to the attack of the side. With strong play he could be one of the big changes for the squad moving forward, and will continue to look to push for a move out of Knightspurs.

15 – Kalvin Talbot – Bayern Phoenix 1 Cap, 21 Years Old
A strong center midfielder on the bench, Talbot is well down the pecking order at the position but could be an option in situations where the team needs to shore up the center of the field.

17- Elton Petersheim – Bayern-Algaer 82 Caps, 2 Goals, 27 Years Old
While no longer an everyday player Elton is definitely the main wing option off the bench and could put in a few starts with the relative youth of the rest of the squad.

18 – Ensign Petersheim – New Capetown Falcons 82 Caps, 1 Goals, 27 Years Old
The defensive midfield of the twins, Ensign is no longer a starter, but could be a strong option to play games in the end trying to keep opponents from tying or scoring late.

19 – Wilhelm Quinones - Yaton FC 31 Caps, 3 Goals, 26 Years Old
The best speedy winger on the bench, Quinones has been a long time bench option and while his chances of being a starter before the end of his career, he continues to be a big part of the success of the team.

20 – Sahler Moon- Real Atlantea - 3 Caps, 21 Years Old
The likely heir to the attacking midfield position, Moon has been a strong player and continues to be what many people are hoping the future of the squad looks like.

22 – Aston Shelby – Los Riosa Monstas 0 Caps, 20 Years Old
A likely right winger of the future, Shelby is a strong option on the bench for the interim and could really be a strong player moving forward.

STRIKERS

7 - RS, Aleksandr Denisov – Oldhem Knights (Apox) 32 Caps, 6 Goals, 25 Years Old
The speedy forward Denisov has been a revelation for the national team after being plucked from relative obscurity. One of the few players on the team to never have a youth cap, Denisov continues to be a show of the strong options throughout Taeshan.

8 - LS, Miles Snavely – Laketown Rangers 153 Caps, 95 Goals, 31 Years Old Captain
The aging captain continues to be a talisman, scoring goals and almost at a century of goals. While he continues to not get any world acclaim and that is probably what he searches for in his final seasons.

13 – Horatio Galludet – Real Chinchinhua 5 Caps, 0 Goals, 24 Years Old
The best target forward option on the bench, Galludet continues to be a strong option and while not exactly the best player he continues to be a strong option.

16 – Johnson Salazar – Taeshan City Miners 13 Caps, 2 Goals, 26 Years Old
The speedy option on the bench Salazar will get spot starts and will see some action as a bench player and won’t be much of a force except against tired legs.

THE HOLY EMPIRE WC 80 SQUAD

While the nation took a long break from WCs 8 through 24, the Holy Empire is proud to be the only active nation to have participated in WC 1.

Though it pretends not to be, the nation is equally proud to have won 4 World Cup titles

This time the Holy Empire is represented by the generals, admirals, and other leaders of the Invincible Legions of Doom of the Immortal Dread Lords Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail, the giant, carnivorous triumvirate that rules the mysterious reality known as 'Fluffy Bunny World'.

The Legions of Doom have conquered every galaxy across Fluffy Bunny World, with uncountable trillions enslaved to their insatiable bloodlust. Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail - long-time friends of both Juan Tzimisces and no less a figure than the Basileus of the Holy Empire himself - now thirst for new conquests in other realities. Yet the Dread Lords know their limits. Instead of unleashing the full force of the Invincible Legions of Doom across the barriers that separate realities, via a partnership with the Holy Empire Football Association they've merely relaunched the Legions' leaders as a competitive football team and sent them forth.

Prepare for maximum bunnies!

The bunnies have a dualistic religion. They worship Be'atrix, goddess of victory. In as much as they fear anything, they fear Ma'Gregor, shadow god of the carrot patch.

OOC: The squad consists of incredibly, impossibly cute - but ruthless, hyper-intelligent, win at all costs - bipedal human-sized rabbits. They will stretch the rules; and if referees don't succumb to just how amazingly cute they are, they will get sent off.

Also, for reasons that will become clearer over the course of the World Cup (I hope) they're not very keen on sentient ponies

Goal:
High Archon Snowball

Defence:
Field Marshal Patches
Lord Space Admiral Cinnabun
High Marshal Benjy Bunny

Midfield:
Marine Marshal Whiskers
Hokh'Ton Twitch
Field Marshal Wiggles (CAP)
Hokh'Ton Muffin
Lord Space Admiral Bogart

Forwards:
High Marshal Prince Fluffles
First Purifier Snuggles

Substitutes:
General Snickerdoodle [g]
Second Purifier Pistachio [def]
Deputy Ton Popcorn [mid]
First Master of Ceremonies Hopper[mid]
High Archon Twix [for]

Coaches:

The team coach remains World Cup Hall of Fame legend Juan Tzimisces

The assistant coach remains Starblaydi World Cup Hall of Fame legend Simeone Di Bradini

Style Modifiers / formation

Frosty football is attacking football. The Holy Empire always plays a 3-5-2 formation using overlapping wingers that turns into 3-3-4 on the counterattack.

[OOC'ly, for the purposes of scorination, the team uses the maximum attacking style modifier permitted by each cup's hosts.]

Kit
The team will wear famous Imperial Gold and Red, as worn by the Holy Empire since WC1...

(home top, away bottom)
Image
Image

OOC'ly, the kits were designed by Red Blackiland, and the crest by Audioslavia - and I'm entirely grateful; I'm very happy for RB and Audio to take OOC credit. IC'ly, HEFA deny the Mundies had anything to do with it.

Stadium
The Holy Empire plays its home matches in the bejewelled, platinum-domed, and purple stone-walled Imperial Hippodrome, the oldest World Cup venue still in use, and one of the most famous - and impressive - stadiums in the multiverse.

RP instructions:
Have fun with the ruthless, violent, extraordinarily cute bunnies; but don't kill anyone, and don't try and launch attacks on the Dreamed Realm - largely because you can't.

Some basic Dreamed Realm RP rules:
Remember that the Dreamed Realm lies entirely outside of Ordinary Reality, and is utterly impervious to harm from what we charmingly call 'mundies'.

Some points to remember about travel to, and playing in, the Dreamed Realm:

1) We control the nature of reality in the Dreamed Realm; reality and time are malleable within the Realm. This isn't used to cheat - all normal rules of football are strenuously followed - but it does have two major side effects:
A) Any injuries to either team in Imperial home matches are immediately healed.
B) No violent or riotous behaviour by visiting fans will be tolerated, unless permission is received in advance (please file applications for violent rioting in triplicate). Any such behaviour undertaken without appropriate permission will find those responsible immediately transported back to Ordinary Reality.

2) Direct travel from ordinary physical reality to the Dreamed Realm is impossible. Some 72 hours before your away qualifier in the Empire, a team of Archregimancy [Eastern Orthodox Christian] monks will arrive in your home stadium and construct a portal to the Dreamed Realm. You may then use this to travel to the Empire at your convenience.

Did we mention that the bunnies are really, really cute.

Share in the cuteness! Buy an official Holy Empire WC 80 squad bunny toy for your loved ones!
As brought to you by Fluffy Bunny, Inc.
