While a Molotov cocktail would not be very efficient at completely knocking out a modern tank, because they are designed with that eventuality in mind, it can still have some effect. As already mentioned radios, machine gun mountings, ammo, and personnel equipment are all commonly attached or stored on the outside. This is not to mention that tank commanders like to keep their heads out because it gives them better fields of vision than staying inside. The fire and/or smoke in the engine to mobility kill a tank is rather hard and uncommon, but similar things have happened to modern tanks. Enough fire can also block the vision ports of a tank, making it harder to maneuver and fire small arms attacks definitely tends to drive away supporting infantry which makes the tanks job a lot harder.

TL;DR: Molotov Cocktails are inefficient and unlikely to get any form of kill, but can slow and degrade a tanks capabilities.

Or we could always go that one route that Japanese Commander did and just straight up take a Katana and take out the crew that way./s

But that wouldn't work on a modern MBT, because MODERN TANK INVINCIBLE LIKE BORIS!

Let's compromise. You can own as many muskets as you want, and the rest of us can own assault rifles. Deal?

Alright. Except, your Assault RIfles don't have barrels, and my muskets can auto-fire.

Well, since we should have a 'well-regulated militia', and ARs are originally army weapons, then we should have ARs to form a 1783-style militia.

It may damage the air-cleaners and maybe choke-out the engine.

But that's 'bout it unless somone opens a hatch and lets one burn inside the tank.... oil-fire smoke is pretty nasty in confined space.

It's usually more effective to place a quarter-stick of dynamite under the bustle and dislodge the turret-ring, forcing tank to BTFO.
-Add a mobility-kill, and all that's left is the rooftop MGs... which are still pretty deadly... especially coupled with its optics and the fact it can radio for help in the form of close-air.

What do you think "well regulated militia" means?

A group of armed civilians, regulated by the gov't.

You'd be wrong, the phrase in the 1790's had nothing to do with government regulation. Well regulated in ye olde English means in working order, in this case referring to people being armed and having their own ammo and such things.
