Kharan-Regor wrote:Full Nation Name: The Federation of Kharan
Name: Kharan-Regor (technically the name of the ruling party, but "Kharan" was taken. *sadface* )Stance On:
Republicanism: To an extent that's what we are.
Anarchy: Too impractical and uncivilized
Totalitarianism: Depends on the circumstances. Sometimes for the good of society as a whole, a wise leader has to take emergency power to save society from a crisis. But this should only be a temporary measure.
Capitalism: We have a fairly strong merchant class. Most specialized labor exists in the form of what could be equated to guilds. Master/apprentice based labor. HOWEVER, usury is specifically forbidden in Lotrokism and one must work in some fashion or another for their own wealth; thus, there are no industries comparable to banks, investment, stock markets, etc. So sorta...
Communism: Some of the principles are good, especially in societies with scarce resources. And in time of crisis, we might move more this way to protect society as a whole. However, Kharan has over-abundant staple food resources in its forests; thus as far as essential resources are concerned, it's post-scarcity. Making Communism proper sort of irrelevant. At least at present.
Socialism: Kharan essentially functions as a DECENTRALIZED (immediate community-based on most levels) Socialist economy. And it's generally voluntarily so.
Fascism: Strongly against. We fought a war against those we'd consider to be rather fascist (at least in some aspects) after all.
Monarchy: Historically was the way of our society (in several clans at least - the Sirava would take some exception to this). However, in post-occupation times, the Supreme Leaders (effectively a Prime Minister at the head of a parliamentary system) hold most de facto power.
Abortion: As Lotrokist philosophy mandates protection of all life whenever possible, quite against. Unless of course the mother's life is in physical danger (in which case it would be absurd to cause two deaths rather than one).
Alcohol: Quite widespread in their culture. Particularly Okronisangri (Fermented blood of an Okron - a gigantic reptile native to Kharan - fed extremely high levels of sugar immediately prior to slaughter, thus allowing for fermentation and a relatively sweet taste).
Drugs: A few entheogens are used in certain "path finding" rituals, and believed under certain circumstances to allow for communication with ancestors. Recreation-wise, at least as far as what's typically available on Kharan, there's no restrictions on drug use per se (other than that the age of majority is 15, and it's seen as despicable to sell such products to someone under the age). Lotrokism teaches responsibility and moderation though, so the pervasive philosophy would certainly be to at the very least avoid consumption to the level of harmful effects or addiction.
Homosexuality: No discrimination against it per se, however, marriage is seen chiefly as a tool for reproduction and thus stability of family lines. Thus, homosexual marriage doesn't exist per se. (See my factbook on this for a more in-depth explanation).
Death Penalty: For extreme enough offenses.
Militaries: Quite necessary for defense of our homeland. The Occupation definitely made that much clear.
Gun Control: Well, considering that the majority of guns are made of unshielded metal, and thus able to be destroyed by even basic-level Hsei techniques... Guns are sort of pointless except maybe in hunting. And there still Kharanai prefer their own Hsei-based weapons. As far as weapons themselves go, there's no restriction per se - aside from that some of the better crafted ones can be extremely expensive, and thus only the very highest military officers or nobility can afford them.
Religion: Lotrokism is pervasive in society to the extent that 99.999999999% of the population subscribes to it on some level or another. Whether they specifically follow its teachings in full is another matter entirely. Though, it's debatable whether Lotrokism is really a religion or more of just a philosophy (think along the lines of Confucianism or Platonism).
Slavery: Illegal.
Expansionism: Strongly against. We had to fight a war against a belligerently expansionist power for our very right to exist after all...
The Skorzenian Empire and the Steel Fraternity: Hmm....
Racial Superiority: Depends on who you ask. At the very least, most Kharanai believe themselves genetically distinct from outside humanity (objectively so, genotypically and phenotypically). And Kharanai citizens of foreign or mixed ancestry (an extreme minority of the population) tend to be viewed at the very least as "impure". However, there is no political discrimination per se based on race (though at present it's VERY difficulty for non-Kharanai to even visit the world, let alone obtain citizenship).
The Environment: The planet is our source of food and life. As it provides for us, we must provide for it.
What Constitutes Basic Human Rights: The right of all necessities to life, plus the environment to develop to their potential.
Universal Human Rights: A rational government should provide all of the above for its citizens.
What Constitutes Basic Individual Freedoms: If it does none ill, have your will.
Universal Individual Freedom: As long as it harms no others, including in that impeding the government in providing for the wellbeing of the citizenry, it is allowed. Though caution and balance should be sought in all cases.
SCIENCE!: Skepticism and scientific study are central pillars of Lotrokism, the predominant ideology. However, as most foreign humans cannot use Hsei, Hsei techniques might be seen as superstition (though they work for Kharanai).
Education: Very important for promoting a rational society.
Industry: The backbone of strength and growth.
((OOC: If any of this doesn't make sense, just look at my factbook))

Totalitarianism: Decent.
Capitalism: Preferred to Socialism, but still very flawed.
Communism: Destroy. At. All. Costs.
Socialism: See above.
Fascism: The ultimate ideology, and the pathway towards humankind commanding the stars.
Monarchy: Old, outdated, but preferable to a democracy.
Abortion: Only in cases where the mother will die, or the baby will come out deformed/retarded/dead/ what have you.
Alcohol: You must own a license to drink alcohol in the GWO. We try to make sure only responsible folks can access it.
Drugs: Most recreational drugs are banned outright. We don't tolerate that here in the GWO- in fact, dealing illegal substances is a capital crime.
Homosexuality: As long as it stays away from heterosexuals and such, it's fine. We do not care about one's romantic preferences, so long as they don't advertise it.
Death Penalty: Used. Quite often, we must say.
Militaries: A civilization cannot exist without one.
Gun Control: No. Despite us being Fascists, we value the civil defense capabilities granted with private weaponry, plus it keeps the people happy.
Religion: What's that? (The GWO government is officially unaware of religion- this prevents intentional rulings and lawmaking based on religion alone. Of course, the people within the government know about it, but religion and the government are two different things.)
Slavery: We do not use it, as we believe it would damage our economy.
Expansionism: Certain states are Enlightened and thus have a God-given right to do so.
The Skorzenian Empire and the Steel Fraternity: No contact thus far.
Racial Superiority: 95% of race is a feeling, just as Mussolini himself said.
The Environment: Who cares? However, it's nice to have a wilderness. In the grand scheme of things, though, the environment is of little importance compared to the progress of humankind.
What Constitutes Basic Human Rights: There are no rights, only privileges. If you abuse them, you lose them.
Universal Human Rights: Arbitrary and globalist.
What Constitutes Basic Individual Freedoms: While we're Fascists, we do believe the people should not be impotent in the running of the state. Thus, we believe people should honestly be able to civilly express their opinions. This, of course, doesn't mean "run out in the streets and demand reform while looting."
Universal Individual Freedom: Arbitrary and globalist.
SCIENCE!: The study of how God made the universe to be, at least in the eyes of most GWO citizens and government officials. It's a noble endeavor.

Siromizu wrote:Full Nation Name:大白水帝國
Name:SiromizuStance On:
Republicanism:Siromizu respects republican attitudes, but republicanism is not the best thing for Siromizu; as a constitutional monarchy, Siromizu values the great and mighty Emperor's position as an apolitical power-check against the government in case of crisis.
Anarchy:While in an ideal world devoid of selfishness, anarchy may be a fine system (or lack thereof) it has no place in reality except in times of crisis.
Totalitarianism:The leadership of Siromizu strives to uphold personal freedoms (including those of private property) for the people, but recognises that some control is necessary to prevent rampant immorality and evil from corrupting society. Totalitarianism, however, is a system which, through its excess of control, is immoral, evil, and a corrupting influence.
Capitalism:Siromizu's government strives to uphold the citizen's right to private property. As such, capitalism as the system of private ownership of the means of production is the only method for distribution of the means of production that would not infringe upon the rights of citizens. That said, total capitalism and private monopoly can potentially hamper progress (despite usually being a driving force for progress) by decreasing efficiency and uniformity in key services such as education, public transport, health-care, basic infrastructure and the postal system - while privatisation in these fields is not outlawed, it can not really compete with the government's services (especially since, by definition, public transport is not privatised, national security, and basic infrastructure exists on public land and is therefore not able to be privatised). Overall, however, capitalism is encouraged.
Communism:Foolish and totally impractical.
Socialism:Siromizu limits socialistic policies to providing only the essential services (such as public transport, education, basic infrastructure, postal system, national security, and health-care) for all; it is far from a welfare state. The people of Siromizu agree that laziness should not be rewarded, and is strongly opposed to social welfare for any able citizen.
Fascism:While Siromizu agrees that national spirit, hard-work, discipline and a sense of societal unity are important, the denial of individual freedoms inherent to fascism is something that is not viable.
Monarchy:Siromizu's great and mighty Emperor is beloved by all, and holds ultimate power, but has not in recent memory overruled the government.
Abortion:Medical practitioners are authorised to perform abortions on women within the first term of pregnancy. There is no legal penalty for "home-made" abortions performed at any stage, although it is discouraged as dangerous.
Alcohol:Culturally, alcohol is seen as having a traditional role in ritual, and a modern role in recreation; that said, citizens are encouraged to drink responsibly, and public education has successfully created a negative public view of irresponsible behaviour with alcohol.
Drugs:Purchase and sale is legal. Consumption of recreational drugs is illegal in public areas, but regulation on private property is left to the property owner.
Homosexuality:While homosexuality is perhaps frowned upon, or taboo, in modern society, it is not illegal. There is a strict don't-ask-don't-tell system in the military with regards to all matters of sexuality. Homosexuals may have civil unions which act similarly to marriage, but they may not adopt (adoption is restricted to married couples).
Death Penalty:Siromizu employs the death penalty for crimes which may place the people under threat of serious physical grievance; persons found guilty of aggressive (wherein the perpetrator has not been protecting one's body or property within reason) cases of grievous bodily harm, murder, attempted murder, use or attempted use of a lethal weapon on a person, rape, terrorism, conspiracy to commit terrorism, treason and conspiracy to commit treason, are punishable on the first offense by public beheading with a sword.
Militaries:Siromizu believes that the size and sophistication of a nation's military is a sign (but not the only sign) of a nation's power.
Gun Control:Siromizu allows the public to own semi-automatic pistols, shotguns and rifles for hunting and self-defence. Improper use of a firearm is a crime as detailed above and leads to execution.
Religion:Although Shinto and Buddhism have a special place in Siromizu's culture and heritage, the government is secular, and all major religions are allowed (although the two aforementioned religions are the only ones to be tax-exempt). The privileges afforded to the two previously mentioned religious belief systems stems from their cultural significance, rather than any bias towards certain religions; even the irreligious and those of minority religions tend to observe cultural traditions with origins in the tax-exempt religions.
Slavery:Siromizu employs slavery as a legal punishment for some crimes, but forced slavery is outlawed (whereas contractual slavery, which is not really slavery at all, is fine, provided freedom in the contracting process).
Expansionism:Siromizu holds all the territories that it needs, but does not oppose expansionism, except against Siromizu and important allies of Siromizu. Siromizu would not rule out puntive, retaliatory expansionism in times of war.
The Skorzenian Empire and the Steel Fraternity:Siromizu knows little of either of these entities, although the Steel Fraternity seems an honourable state of noble principles - even if, perhaps, the government does interfere a little too much with the lives of the people.
Racial Superiority:Siromizu does not believe in racial superiority. Siromizu's culture is necessarily superior to that of its enemies only; if such an enemy culture happens to be linked to a group of a certain race, then any inferiority of that group stems from its culture rather than its race.
The Environment:Siromizu encourages industry to avoid causing unnecessary harm to the environment, and maintains some important sites as nature reservations. Siromizu provides financial incentives for firms to support nuclear power, sustainable energy sources, sustainability research, and nuclear fusion research. Siromizu also manages national institutes devoted to sustainability research and nuclear fusion research.
What Constitutes Basic Human Rights:Recognising that rights are but a construct, Siromizu holds that law-abiding citizens of Siromizu have the general right to education, healthcare and mobility, as well as high degrees of personal freedom (including a right to free expression of all kinds, and to private property) provided that other parties are not nonconsensually physically harmed by exercise of such rights. Siromizu's government strives to cater to these rights.
Universal Human Rights:Siromizu holds that all law-abiding citizens abroad (wherein deliberate citizens of hostile nations are by definition not law-abiding) have the same rights as citizens of Siromizu. Siromizu's government does not directly interfere with the business of other nations in catering to these rights.
What Constitutes Basic Individual Freedoms:Siromizu's government holds that basic individual freedoms include total freedom provided that it will not, without total, informed consent of other involved parties, cause demonstrable physical harm to any other person, and will not infringe upon the freedom of any other person.
Universal Individual Freedom:As above.
SCIENCE!:Siromizu's government believes scientific research is essential in any civilized society. Siromizu's government spends considerable parts of its budget on government research, and grants to private research firms.
Education:Siromizu's government believes that all citizens have an obligation to be educated to a certain standard, and a free public education system is provided to this end. Education is compulsory between the ages of six and fifteen. Social pressures result in such rules being almost unnecessary, however, as the overwhelming majority of Siromizu's citizens complete twelve full years of primary and secondary education, and most citizens also have some kind of tertiary education. Siromizu's government also provides licensing to qualified private educational institutions as an alternative to the public system, but the fact that the public system is so comprehensive means that private institutions tend to be very rare, and even then aregenerally aimed at minority religious groups.
Industry:Siromizu's government upholds the right of the people freedom of industry and enterprise that does not cause demonstrable damage to the nation or its people, and provides monetary incentives to members certain industries, as well as to entities which fall within specific guidelines for environmental impact.

Concordeia wrote:Full Nation Name: The Commonwealth of Concordeia

Anarchy: Neutral. We value freedom from unwarranted state interference, however we feel that anarchy simply isn't practical on a nationwide scale. If another society feels they can make it work, we say go for it.
Totalitarianism: Absolutely against. It completely goes against basic human rights.
Capitalism: Supportive if regulated. There should be measures to prevent economic instability and social deprivation which can result from totally unbridled free market capitalism.
Communism: Neutral. An ideal system in theory, but there is not yet a practical method of implementing it on a nationwide scale. Again, if another society thinks they can make it work without degrading into a dictatorial state capitalist regime, more power to them.
Socialism: Supportive. Social safety nets and democratic ownership and management of businesses are highly valued.
Fascism: Against. It is a warmongering ideology which puts holds the rights of the state above the rights of the individual and breeds cultural xenophobia.
Monarchy: Neutral. We prefer constitutional monarchies. Though there are and have been rulers who care for the rights and well-being of their subjects, without any checks or balances, the potential for corruption of power is high.
Abortion: Legal, however we emphasize and encourage prevention of unwanted pregnancy through education and other measures.
Alcohol: Legal.
Drugs: Partly legal. Hard drugs like cocaine, meth and heroin are highly regulated and often restricted from use.
Homosexuality: Legal
Death Penalty: Abolished
Militaries: We maintain a small but well-trained and well-equipped volunteer defensive and peacekeeping force. We will not initiate armed conflict with another nation unless they attack us or our allies or they are committing major human rights violations. Soldiers carry no special "military status" and are considered civilians just like everyone else in the employment of the government, so there are no separate military laws, courts or secrets.
Gun Control: In effect. Mainly consists of registration and electronic tracking and monitoring of firearms. Assault, automatic, and military weapons are highly restricted.
Religion: Legal. Citizens may worship (or not) under any faith they wish so long as it doesn't interfere with the rights of others.
Slavery: Absolutely against. It completely goes against basic human rights.
Expansionism: Against. Violates the sovereignty of other nations.
The Skorzenian Empire and the Steel Fraternity: Only basic information has been gathered about the Steel Fraternity, but initial reports indicate that they are an imperialistic oligarchy with few if any rights or freedoms for their citizens, contrary to their claim of being a democratic state. They are overzealous in their support of free market capitalism, highly judgmental of other nations' cultural norms, and highly aggressive and expansionist. They also harbor an irrational, borderline obsessive hatred of communism (including even mildly socialist policies) and have little to no respect for the environment. We have no interest in opening diplomatic relations with them in their current state.
Racial Superiority: Against. Nobody is inherently "better" than anyone else, just different.
The Environment: Very supportive. It is something to be cared for and preserved, not just for the well-being of the Earth but for well-being of humanity as well.
What Constitutes Basic Human Rights: Technically, we believe rights are actually non-existent outside the human mind, but we still support them because most if not all humans want to be safe, happy, and treated fairly. Freedom of thought, speech, association, and lifestyle and the right to life, shelter, food and water, and protection from harm, harassment, deprivation and persecution by others are all basic rights for us.
Universal Human Rights: See above.
What Constitutes Basic Individual Freedoms: See above, so long as they do not interfere with the rights of others.
Universal Individual Freedom: See above.
SCIENCE!: Very supportive. Ethical and environmentally conscientious scientific research and development is very important and well funded in Concordeia. It is our belief that science and technology, when applied correctly, can help create a better life for the next generation.
Education: Very supportive. Most schools and universities are publicly funded and enrollment is free for all.
Industry: Supportive if regulated to prevent personal, social and environmental deprivation. Industry in Concordeia has become high tech and efficient, so pollution is no longer a major problem, and cooperative ownership of industry has mostly solved the problem of economic inequality.

Totalitarianism: Disapproving. High probablity of eventual revolt.
Capitalism: Highly supportive.
Communism: Unworkable. People are just not altruistic enough.
Socialism: Highly supportive. Practiced in Machinarium.
Fascism: Vaguely disapproving.

Abortion: For normal pregnancies, abortion is legal only in the first and second trimesters. If there are exceptional medical circumstances, doctors are allowed to perform it anytime during the pregnancy. (On a related note, it is legal for parents to euthanise newborns with mental or physical handicaps not detected while they were in the womb, although the consent of both parents is required.)
Alcohol: Tolerant, tending towards disapproving. As prohibitionism is difficult to enforce, the government prefers to let social disapproval act as a deterrence rather than to explicitly outlaw it.
Drugs: All recreational drug use is outlawed. However, drugs with medical benefits such as opium may be used for medical purposes subject to strict controls.
Homosexuality: Tolerant. However, it is compulsory for homosexuals to donate to sperm banks/egg banks to ensure that their genetic line is preserved.
Death Penalty: Practiced. Crimes with a mandatory death penalty include murder, aggravated rape and terrorism. Traitors have a choice of permanent exile or execution.
Militaries: Military expenditure is a waste of money that could be better diverted into other areas such as education and technology. However, with so many aggressive countries in NS *cough*, Machinarium has to maintain a military to act as a deterrence, against its better judgment. The military is never used for invasion/aggression; it is only used in retaliation against invading nations, to colonize new territories/planets, or to maintain order in Machinarium. Compulsory draft.
Gun Control: Guns outlawed.
Religion: Tolerant, although the government believes that religion is a waste of time that could be more productively spent making money.

What Constitutes Basic Human Rights: The right to free speech, shelter, enough money to manage their lives and the right to be treated with respect, among other things
Universal Human Rights: see above
What Constitutes Basic Individual Freedoms: as above
Universal Individual Freedom: The same as above
SCIENCE!: Very important in our nation. Of particular note is our extensive research in bio- augmentation and genetic engineering. One should never let superstitions or fear of failure get in the way of research.
Education: Likewise, very important in our nation.
Industry: Soon to be completely nationalized, with the exception of some areas that require opposition to perform well.

Bokaya wrote:Full Nation Name: The Grand Dutchy of Bokaya
Name: BokayaStance On:
Republicanism: In ancient history, Bokaya was a republic. She then expanded, transforming into an empire, before the empire fell, creting a Grand Dutchy. The current duke despises republicanism, and democracy in general, as inefficient.
Anarchy: To be avoided at all costs.
Totalitarianism: A good thing. The masses cannot handle political freedom.
Capitalism: The only true way of allowing economic growth.
Communism: A delightfully "nice" theory, but one that could never work in practice.
Socialism: A despicable ideal, the cancer of a nation. "Each to his, according to need". This is the slogan of the devil, inving indolence, apathy and dependance.
Fascism: See "communism".
Monarchy: A majestic institution that has guided Bokaya Malka for 1000 years.
Abortion: Never, ever right. Adoption is always an alternative.
Alcohol: Vodka Tax fills over 10% of our national coffers.
Drugs: Marijuana Tax fills over 15% of our national coffers.
Homosexuality: A regrettable waste of semen, but an inevitable result of giving people civil rights. Hardly a sin.
Death Penalty: Nescessary only in the most extreme cases. There are almost always more preferable alternatives.
Militaries: Vital to a countries survival.
Gun Control: Practiced in Bokaya.
Religion: The hand of God guides and protects us all.
Slavery: Archduke VanSaar freed the serfs, the closest thing we had to slaves, over 2 years ago.
Expansionism: No longer particularly nescessary to Bokaya, but can become a viable option, should circumstances warrent.
The Skorzenian Empire and the Steel Fraternity: How we aspire to be. But with more autocracy, less oligarchy. We admire how you safeguard your citizens civil rights by denying them political freedoms.
Racial Superiority: A nonsense, to be cast aside with great contempt. No matter the skin colour, no matter the creed, we are all Bokayans, and we are all sworn to the Archduke.
The Environment: Like a valuable, yet fragile emerald that must be protected from greed. This is the only time when state interferes with business in our country.
What Constitutes Basic Human Rights: To be protected by an autocrat. To always be granted free, fair trial no matter the charge. To have a nationality. To question and challenge faith, belief, government, and not be persecuted. To be forgiven of any wrong, if you truely repent. The right to education.
Universal Human Rights: The right to life, to a clean, unpolluted world, to the persuit of contentment, to the protection of your betters.
What Constitutes Basic Individual Freedoms: To believe, act, question and love to your individual whim. To have a state that will always protect you, but never coddle you. To live in safety, comfort and the persuit of contentment.
Universal Individual Freedom: To live your life exactly how you choose, so long as your choices affect no-one but yourself. To have this freedom gaurenteed by the protection of a benevolent, impartial, totalitarian government.
SCIENCE!: Each new dicovery only increases our marvel for God. A beautiful, vital component of life.
Education: Crucial as one of only two proper functions of government.
Industry: The means to greatness, via profit.

Militaries: We don't have one. Our well-armed populace would make an occupation extremely difficult, if not impossible.
Gun Control: None.
