OOC NOTE
OOC: This RP is the pivotal point in a domestic dispute between two distinct groups in the Federation. The Nekos and Marshites, vs The Kogyokist Church. All groups, Nekos, the Holy Marsh and Kogyokist Church are either creations made by other players, or canonically exist in allies, and therefore were allowed to flourish in my nation for RPing purposes. Eventually, I realized how at odds these cultures could be, and have been building up tensions between them, working with their creators to keep the cultural logic consistent. This RP is the time in which this conflict finally boils over into all out war between the two factions. I understand that not everyone RPs with non human creatures, and therefore it is perfectly acceptable to view this as just a conflict between religious groups in the PUF. However, I will be opening this up for anyone who wants to join in.

However, for the moment, this will only be a character based RP. As the battle to take place should only be a few days long, and the Federation will be handling the issues between two groups of their citizens. As such, if you want to participate, it will be in the form of a character on the island. Due to previous news posts, this conflict may have gained some international attention and therefore either foreign news groups, hired security, or tourists have come to see for themselves. I have a basic plot line for how the battle will go, so for now, players only have one goal. Survive.

Background news stories:
Original Hate Crime that made international news
Police Response
Ultimently ineffective policy changes

Sidenote: 'Militia' in the PUF is more of a legal term used to identify private armies sponsored by either local minorities or private corporations. The more well funded ones may be indistinguishable from a proper army. These Private Militias are registered with and regulated by the Federal government.

A few kilometers outside of the village of Takara
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

Sebastian Wedou enjoyed it up here, a nice spot overlooking the sea, his home village of Takara in the distance. The stars twinkled in the sky as the sun faded under the horizon, a final goodbye to this relaxing day. He stretched out on the grass, content with his day off. He could see the fishing boats returning from a long day, while ferries brought people back from their jobs up the coast. Roads existed, but the Sea was the lifeblood of Aqua Anu. “Life by the Sea, On the Sea, With the Sea.” it was more than a motto to Anuiens, it was the scripture they grew up on. The Sea gave life in the form bountiful fish, gave prosperity in the form of trade, and could just as easily take it all away in a hurricane or Tsunami.

But tonight, with not a cloud in the sky, the seas were calm. Tonight, she only gave him him the faint smell of saltwater to remind him he was home, and the steady rhythm of the waves in the distance to aide in his relaxation. It was more than enough. The chirping of crickets, faint sounds of life from the village, ands even the steady sound of a plane overhead didn't take anything away from the night. One day he'd have to put up a hammock here, but that might invite others to discover his spot. Besides, setting one was probably to much work.

A bright fireball lit up the middle of the village, getting Sebastian’s attention. His ears perked up as the sound of an explosion reaches him seconds after. Sirens ands warnings wailed in the village. With cat like reflexes Sebastian stood up and stared. He knew that fireball originated outside the market just from growing up here. Was it a propane truck? He needed to get home fast. Whatever accident had happened would need every abled body they could get. Hopefully airlifts to the hospital in Minamoguni would be arriving soon.

Another fireball rose up, this time from the docks. It completely destroyed the front side of a warehouse, leaving the rest of the building to collapse in on itself. It was only then did he let his attention focus on the Sea. A small fleet of military ships, four or five total, was steaming passed. The larger ones seemed to be birthing smaller ships, while the two thinner ones had cannons the size of telegraph poles pointed to the village. One fired, and Sebastian turned to back to the village. This time a fireball arose in Fisherman’s Quarter, one of the village’s small neighborhoods.

They were being attacked. By who? Cartels? Ordenites? Castillians? Scandivans?

As another fireball exploded in the village, something finally clicked in Sebastian’s head that he had always known on some level, but never had the experience to fullu understand. Until now.

The world was cruel. Mothers shield their children from it, fathers fight against it, but, eventually, the world wins and gets it way.

He watched as shells hit the buses leaving the village.

He watched as the shells got closer to the Marshite Temple in the city center.

He watched as the little boats climbed onto land, and opened up with machine gun fire on the villagers. He watched as the people ran and fell, never to run again.

He watched as the Temple was hit again and again, finally collapsing under its own weight.

There was nothing to do but watch, watch and listen to the screams echoing up the hills to his secluded spot. Tears rolled down his face as he stood powerless to do anything. Unable to save anyone. Mother, father, Mary, all somewhere in there.

Today Sebastian learned what it meant to be Neko in a world of humans.

City of Minamoguni
Militia blockade of 26th street
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

The dust settled after the final explosion, the Battle Axe cruiser at sea taking time to reload it's massive 205 mm guns shelling the city. Every 15 to 20 seconds, the guns would fire again as the cannons moved to a new target. The most recent target had been their command post on main street. Just a couple block west. Lieutenant Hayashi Sayuri of the Neko Defense Militia climbed back to her feet and looked around at her platoon. Everyone was still alive, it was a good start.

“Rei, take your squad and get to the command post, find me anyone alive! Kane, follow Rei’s lead. Kenji, we're going to hold the line here!”

Not waiting for the next explosion, Sayuri unravelled the antenna of her militia issued radio and began broadcasting on the open militia channel.

“Attention all units, enemy artillery is targeting rally points and armories, be advised, enemy knows armory locations."

She listened for a second, hearing the generic chatter on the line as various units tried to coordinate. Eventually she took advantage of a pause:

“This is Militia Lieutenant Hayashi of the main street garrison, I am assuming command of Main Street Garrison.”

The radio squawked back something her squad couldn't here.

“I don't know who's on the line feeding false info, if you don't believe me look up code River Sky Bridge Seven Six. That will be us…. Yeah, find it? Good! Now keep those battle lines secure until reinforcements arrive.”

Setting down the radio receiver, she turned to a soldier and commanded him to operate the radio. She didn't know who reinforcements might be, either the better equipped Marshite Militia on the island, or hopefully Federal Marines. She was only militia, and militia didn't get fancy helmet radios or advanced combat armor. Instead they made due with what they could afford and that was a simple steel helmet, flak vest over their uniforms, and a surplus FAL rifle.

“Contact, 12 O’clock!” Someone shouted, it was an amphibious assault vehicle, not the Marshite designed ones the Federal troops used, but an older one. Infantry formed around it and then the shooting began. Sayuri dove behind the sands bags as bullets whizzed past, before finally getting up and returning a few shots. The Assault vehicle turned its gun and grenade launcher to the blockade. Shots and explosions tore through the roadblocks and sandbags across the street. Screams filled the air as her squad got tore apart.

Within seconds, an explosion tore open the top of the amphibious assault vehicle taking out its guns, then another tore open its side. The Gustav rifles had finally opened fire, knocking out the armored escort.

“Get inside!” she screamed to anyone left, grabbing her radio operator by his vest and pulling him with her. FAL aimed towards the enemy, she unloaded suppressing fire.
It was only a few feet, but the run to cover felt like eons, every step could mean death as the attackers fired back, wood splitters shattered from the building got hit. The whizz of bullets passing by caused her ears to perk up in alarm, but it was out of her hands. Throwing the radio operator inside she fell practically on top of him as a Gustav fired an anti personnel shell at the attackers.

Rolling herself back to the door, she lined up shots and took them as targets appeared, until finally the blockade was quiet once more. Only now, did she finally get a good look at the amphibious craft that burned in front of them. On the undamaged side was the logo of the Tenshu Followers Militia. The militia that served The Kogyokist Church. They had finally broke the peace and launched an attack against her kind. This was not going to be a simple war, this was going to be a fight against extinction.

“When your Sovereign abandons the Lord. Whom do you pledge your loyalty to? Your pagan sovereign, or to the Lord?”

The Colonel stood in front of his men. Soldiers of the Holy Guards of Ama-Ototosama. The Elite of the Tenshu Followers Militia. Behind him others were already loading in amphibious assault craft and getting ready to deploy. As the third wave, they waited outside their transports in formation, ready to load up. None had known when this naval exercise began that they would be actually invading a Neko populated island, but none questioned the order either.

“Our Queen does not share our faith, instead she openly mocks us for allowing these Yokai to live as her subjects. What do you make of a Sovereign that has Oni serving her?

Make no mistake, we are in a spiritual war.
Shugenja and Oni rule these islands, every day they try to erode our faith, temp us into submission. You've all seen it yourself, have you not? It is our duty as soldiers of The Lord to defend the Faith, even from its own inaction.

Nearly 30 million people on Nippon Island follow Tenshu, and tomorrow when the sun rises 30 million will rise up in revolt. For in our sacrifice, they will be made to see the Queedom and Federation for what they really are, a modern Sodom and Gomorrah.

Tonight, your orders are to eliminate every Yokai you find, every soul corrupted by their presence. The Shugenja and Oni will send their armies against us, and we will eliminate them. Make no mistake, we will be outnumbered, but we will hold our lines and show these Oni what a few hundred determined Christians can do. So when they turn their greedy eyes to Nippon, they know what it will cost them to try to corrupt us.

Tonight, we start the war for the soul of Nippon.”

Non-Human Shrine
Takara
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

Sister Enticia Sanchez was a woman of great perception, many said. She seemingly had her hand on the pulse of the many followers of the Non-Human Shrine in the area even though she was a simple human. Many came to her for the sake of her sage advice. Others simply for her ability to brighten your day with her quick wit and easy charm. The Holy Marsh blessed those of sound spirit and joviality with success in many cases. She considered herself one of these success stories despite her relative lack of ambition.

She was fine living in a small town on a small island. She was fine being barren, her family prospects having died years ago. The flock of the innocent and the believer were her family and she loved them. It was why she had decided to respond to letters and work on some advanced scripture lessons for the young Marshites and eat a light meal instead. She had just released her aides for the night when the first explosion rocked the town. Her head perked up. Had she heard...whistling of some kind before the explosion?

She wasn't military trained but she was born and bred a Marshite, and the whistling of artillery was as bred-in as it could be. She poked her head out as the second explosion rocked the village, shielding her eyes from it as best she could. “Inside! Inside!” She yelled, ushering in locals regardless of faith into the Temple. As was standard with all Marshite Churches, the Temple in Takara had a sturdy fallout shelter built underneath it. It could resist anything up to a dedicated armored strike. It wouldn't keep them safe forever, but it would keep them safe long enough.

More explosions, then other sounds. She didn't pay them much attention. She was corralling as many people as possible and putting them in the shelter. One of them was an aide; she took the little neko boy aside and patted him on his purple-striped robed shoulders, heaving a small tome in his hands. She pulled him in close and spoke calmly. “Young Sir, look to page 356 under Call Signs for the Safe Room and the Code for the Door. It is cycled to the third star under the Wolf. May the Great Horned Marsh bless you all,” she said as she escorted him in. She then shut the door and input a code, sealing it from the outside. No doubt there were override codes the main branch had, but security was essential.

The first shells started to land on the temple itself. Still, she steeled herself. She knew her role. She made herself quickly to her personal office. A few keytypes on the Church Communication System and she was soon on the Emergency Line. A few more. An accompaniment of explosions. She swiped up on the screen and stood back as the audio system came online. “Sister-Priestess of the Takara Non-Human Shrine. Artillery and gunfire striking the village and the Temple directly. Many are taking shelter and are sealed in the safe space. Do not hear missile fire or anything of the sort. Do not hear aircraft or anything of the sort. This is an emergency alert- we are under direct, and likely directed, att-” she was cut off by a final explosion which sent parts of the building falling on top of her.

Static and then cut off. Whatever remained of the system self-deleted itself in the secure bunker where the server data was kept below before the server ignited in fire as the building collapsed on top of the shelter itself.

–--------

Her message had been received across the island chain. Dozens of Sisters and Brothers, Fathers and Mothers, Prelates, Grand Artistes, Mistresses, and Masters all received the information with alarm. The Aqua Anu defense council was alerted, the Five Grand Prelates of the Warrior Shrine. Within minutes of the opening engagement taking place they were speaking with one another.

The Marshites had their immediate suspicions. It was likely one of the radical Kyogist Christian militias finally launching an attack. This was expected and prepared for. The People's Federation had allowed religious militias and other forms of militias to become commonplace. Marshites had an abiding respect for their allies and this had been passed on to the citizens of the People's Federation. Religion before any state; the Church before all. But the Church pledged respect to the laws of the Federation. Even that had a limit, however.

With the violence and crime reaching critical levels, the local Churches had enacted protocols as old as the Church itself. Militias were formed in every Church and Shrine. They then coalesced into larger, more recognizable militias for ease of PUF categorization. They received vast funding from donation drives from Marshites themselves as well as overseas donations from donors of a more...eclectic variety. And likely false; the RMU was more than likely behind the lion's share of it.

They 'spent' this funding by going through Church procurement channels, which often meant sending the money back to Theocracy, which in turn helped fund the local Covenant Arms branches, sending the money directly back to the PUF. This was a great bang for one's buck, in any case, as the Theocracy considered the defensive support of their foreign churches a vital task. A Trabajoro never stretched as far as a member of the Marshite faith trying to buy a mounted automatic grenade launcher from Covenant or Lyran Arms.

The vast majority of such weapons, even if discounted, had fallen well within legal guidelines. Others hadn't. Such weapons were envisioned in an entirely defensive manner and thus well within Church Doctrine. Other weapons fell under different terms of legality and were shipped with the help of the cartels or other methods. The PUF would be unhappy, but the Aqua Anu Defense Council would rather ask for forgiveness later than beg allowance now. Alongside munitions came veteran Marshite Militia members from the homeland, experts in setting up such operations. They were all retired of course and came purely for...religious reasons. There were rumors that a squad of Holy Warriors had even been dispatched.

The Grand Prelates didn't know whether or not that was true. What they did know was that their intelligence capabilities had been markedly improved in the last few months.

Of course they had far more support locally. The Marshites of the PUF weren't as rabidly militant as those in the homeland but that was a markedly skewered perspective. They were still considered a rather militant, if usually absurdly jovial, lot. And among them, the Faithful of the Warrior Shrines had looked to this situation with relish. They had already sent many fine young men and women into the PUF armed forces, where Marshites of the Shrine tended to excel. As the situation started to darken many of these Marshites, so many of which were officers and decorated soldiers, joined the ranks of the Militia and helped train an prepare them from a strategic and logistical perspective.

Others were still active duty but did what they could through intelligence gathering and deployment. May requested deployments closer to Aqua Anu. It was unknown what they would do or even could do, but never doubt the charm and persuasion ability of a valuable friend turned ideological demagogue.

The Grand Prelates knew they had an overwhelming numerical advantage in any long-term conflict. They could also rely on direct support from the Theocracy in the darkest of timelines and had long-standing ties of friendship with the PUF as a whole. They were exceptionally well-supplied and increasingly well-trained. The Defense Council was able to coordinate the actions of these various Militias and as time rolled on, aided by the Officers loyal to them of the PUF and Theocracy-trained Militia veterans they developed several different plans to respond to several different scenarios.

It would be impossible to expect the entire defense effort to be able to coordinate flawlessly. The best and brightest units were thus tasked as Quick Reaction Militias, or QRM. QRMs were trained to react to the summoning of the Militias in as little time as possible. Indeed, they ran many secret drills over the months to verify it worked. The QRMs were drilled regarding the separate plans. When called to act they would be the first to launch into action commit themselves to the safety of people of the islands.

One of these plans dealt with an attack from the sea by a Kyogist Militia. They knew full well that the Tenshu Followers had acquired cruisers- Battleaxe-class ones at that- and it would be an awful waste if it wasn't used offensively. That had prompted an emergency purchase or twenty by Marshite Militias. They had learned the location of these vessels and had kept tabs on them. If the initial fears were confirmed, then the rest of Case Pink would go into play. Region-wide mobilization. Seizure of all known or expected Kyogist militia weapon armories and caches in areas outside of Nippon island. Defensive operations of the local population and destruction of violent elements until the federal government took control of the situation, with the exception of Nippon island.

Within moments of the meeting being called, the Defense Council ordered a local spy team to get eyes on the last known moorings of the Kyogist cruisers. In the meantime, all QRMs would be alerted for deployment and Marshite Church Communications in Aqua Anu would broadcast pre-prepared warnings. They would simply await word and discuss more countermeasures while the shells fell- and when the time was right, launch their own attacks.
____________
The waters off of Nippon Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

The little fishing boat with an old, crappy motor pushed itself lazily out into the waters outside of Nippon. The occupants didn't plan on being out long. The opposing militias likely had spies around one another- in this case, an older Marshite couple well-versed in the arts of subterfuge. They had moved to Nippon months ago as an irreligious but happy to entertain theological couple with no known Marshite roots or sympathies. Simple farming couple with simple farming dreams- also old intelligence agents of the MBSA, the PUF's premier intelligence agency. A well-maintained cover story aided by their contacts in the PUF and a wealth of knowledge on how to hide their gear meant they worked as excellent agents for the Defense Council. They were one of a few teams on the island who had helped filter back a lot of information to the Marshite Militias about intentions and important tactical figures. Great aid.

When the call came moments after the Defense Council was summoned for someone to get eyes on the moorings of the Kyogist militia, they responded. In fishing gear and with the light dying ahead of them they set out. They took some water, food, and music- a nice night out in the water for a retired couple. Out there a few minutes the man, the elder of the two, went down below the deck. He eventually got to where he had put in the secret binoculars that poked out from the side, dulled and hidden by the paneling that kept it from glinting. It didn't take long for him to be done- he then sent the message and closed the panel, brought the binoculars back up, and looked out over the water. Motioning to his wife they moved further out into the water and dropped their lines.

They then poured some wine and enjoyed the last of the light, nothing about it betraying their worry.

“Moguni Sea Viper QRM on Station. Eyes on target!”
What an understatement.
They had eyes on target for a while now. Indeed, they had been racing at nearly 50 knots towards it for a few minutes from their safe harbor in Misamoguni. The crust that had been in his eyes had nearly been wiped clear off when he first boarded the FAC-36 Crocodile and the captain had started her up before he had got below deck. Someone had passed him a coffee but it had fallen on the ground and shattered. They were moving much too fast. All hands needed to be on deck and in safe spaces, they were in for a wild ride.

It was spooky being inside a ship with no windows and no one top side. The Crocodile relied on a whole suite of sensors to give them a visual of the world. To those not directly next to them it felt like flying in blind. Heck, to Reijas it felt like he was flying in blind at times too. Didn't matter. They had everything they really needed. A fast, agile ship. Lots of guns and missiles. Faith in the Holy Marsh. And a distinct desire to see an expensive target sink. Really, it was all coming up Marsh.

The Sea Viper QRM was made up of five FAC-36 Crocodiles. With tensions rising as they had been, the crews had been lodged in nearby barracks- or apartments, depending on how one viewed it- with the Crocodiles loaded and ready for attack at all times. The area was heavily patrolled by the Militia for safekeeping of the assets and when the call came the members of the Moguni Sea Vipers QRM moved as quickly as they could. Several members were undressed. It was distracting for maybe a minute, then they were informed of the situation in Minamoguni. Steeled with hate, they proceeded. Their goal: The absolute destruction of all naval assets owned by the aggressors. Survivors were not required.

The QRM moved quickly towards the targets. They were armed rather illegally with Muraena anti-ship missiles, twelve each, along with six LA-91 Iaculum heavyweight torpedoes and two-hundred and twenty rounds for four 79mm rapid firing naval guns. They were armed with everything they needed to wreck the more expensive fleet. By the time the Freedoms, Hatchets, and the Battleaxe realized what they were, it would be too late. The guns of the Kyogist fleet would have difficulty turning and tracking the swift, agile light boats.

They moved in even closer. The goal was to get so close that their missile barrage would be incredibly difficult to stop. Shells started landing wide of the Crocodiles. A few moments later.
“Fire One-Three Missile, Battleaxe!”

The ship shuddered as three Muraena anti-ship missiles were fired. Other ships followed suit. Fifteen such missiles started moving towards the ship at hypersonic speed from well-within the gun range of even the 79mm guns of the Crocodiles.
“Turn left!”
The ship did so, Reijas smashing slightly against the wall and his noggin bouncing off the wall.
“Fire MRT-2 right-side one!”
Reijas did so, in charge of the torpedoes as he was. One LA-91 Iaculum heavyweight torpedo raced at danger close range towards the Battleaxe.

They didn't wait for reports of success. Fifteen missiles at an insanely close range and five torpedos. Even a Longsword would have felt the pressure! They had more targets to go after. The ship took an arcing turn and slammed against what Reijas assumed was choppy waves.

“Turn right!”
Reijas was more prepared and held into place.
“MRT-02 left side one- I said ONE! FIRE!”

A delay, then Reijas assumed all was well.

“TURN LEFT! LEFT! IMPACT!”

Reijas braced and felt them scrape against something-

“RIGHT TWO RIGHT TWO!”

Reijas pressed the button a second later as the ship sped away. He felt something concussive a ways off, but still too close for comfort.

TURN RIGHT- RIGHT! LEFT TWO LEFT THREE FIRE FIRE

“PREPARE FOR- TURN!

GUNS FOR EFFECT, GUNS FOR EFFECT!

MISSILE 4! FREEDOM ALPHA! 5! ALPHA! 6! BRAVO! 7! BRAVO! HOLD 8-12"

RIGHT THREE FIRE”

Reijas pressed the button, his mind shut down except for hearing the order. After a few seconds of silence.

“Guns, fire at all small vessels. Missile 12, target San Antonio Alpha. I want no survivors!”

1st QRM Task Force
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

“And let them know that we are the soldiers of the faith and that no foe can best us! For the Innocent! For the Federation! For the Holy Marsh!”

A cheer was shared on the radio. A moment later a small battery of MIV-45s and Viper MLRS rocket artillery opened up as part of the 1st Moguni QRM. Many had been sleeping not far from their equipment and when the QRMs had been called to action a number hadn't bothered getting dressed or dressed only barely. They were artillery- they could afford to get dressed later. Before they had been set up a few forward elements that lived in the city sent up Kestrel UAVs that helped create a rudimentary version of the SACHERI battlespace network. This would allow the well-drilled artillery forces to use advanced intelligence to deliver accurate strikes, especially compared to most militia forces. Their targets were going to be the areas already believed secured by the enemy and with the lowest chance of civilian casualties.

At least that's what Colonel Sarisia La'Eltactoni believed. A former Federal Marine and member of the Warrior Shrine, she knew full well that no battle plan survived first contact. The Kyogist punks were learning this moment by moment, and the lesson would be all the deadlier once the lead elements of the 1st QRM made contact. A core of MAV-31 AAVs made up the initial push. Most were in the APC configuration but she made her home in a command version, they had a number of mortar variants, and several MGS came along with. They were flanked by lighter vehicles making up the bulk of the convoy. Above them, several ASH-12 Buzzers were going to arrive soon. It was a large force, but Moguni was always a likely place for violence to break out.

And it was going to help the local defense Militia. The Moguni Marshite Militias had a long-standing agreement with the Neko Defense Militias. Indeed, many Nekos were Marshites themselves. It was a matter of some consternation when the Marshites insisted on bringing them under their own banner by and large, but the Colonel knew that the resources they had access to were of a decidedly higher quality. It wouldn't matter today. They were brothers and sisters in arms. She heard the Militia calls on the radio. A bit of panic. A lot of bravery. She would aid them.

“Patch me into all secure Neko Defense Channels,” she said to her aide. He nodded. A second later, he beckoned to her. She spoke loud and clear.

“This is Colonel La'Eltactoni of the 1st Moguni Quick Reaction Militia of the Marshite Church. We are coming to your aid. We will engage at the Main Street Garrison and secure from there. More help is on the way. The 2nd QRM will be here within the hour. More militia forces will follow. You will never fight alone. Praise be to the Holy Marsh! May the Federation Prosper Forever!” She said, keeping aware so as to answer any questions or summons for aid. She had on tap a lot of support, after all.

“Adjutant, give me active defense positions via Kestrels. Time to put the sword down some lunatic's throat.”

Press Release

“From the Marshite Defense Council of Aqua Anu, henceforth the MDC:

Less than an hour ago, radical Kyogist militias attacked the island of Moguni and the city of Minamoguni and are proceeding to kill many innocent citizens of the People's Federation. In response, the MDC has activated its own militias and is currently engaged in open combat against the radical militias in an effort to safeguard Marshites as well as the innocent people caught in the crosshairs of this vile attack seeking to exterminate a people for no cause.

It is currently unknown whether this is an isolated incident or whether this is the first stage in a larger aggression against those they deem against their faith. We cannot take this chance. Therefore, the MDC has authorized all of its allied militias to seize the armories, equipment, and command centers of all known and suspect Kyogist militias on all islands save for Nippon to prevent any further violence towards innocent citizens. The militias have been authorized to take these positions by force and to defend them against any attempts to retake them by the Kyogist militias.

We will not attack Kyogist religious centers unless provoked or they are being used as an armory. We will not remove Kyogist Christians from their homes or displace them unless violence flares up. We will actively seek out and destroy Kyogist militias that are committing violence. Any and all Kyogist militia naval assets that are not in their moorings will be destroyed by our own activated naval assets. Those in their moorings will be seized until the situation has resolved itself.

We will take these actions and hold these positions until the Federal government has mobilized the forces necessary to control the situation and safeguard the people of the islands from the untoward aggression of the radical militias that actively work against the citizens of the Federation.

To the people of Aqua Anu: We ask for your help in this matter and are here to aid you. To all neutral and friendly yet inactive militias, we have no intention of holding territory past the required defensive operations and would seek your understanding.

May the Holy Marsh bless this most wonderful Federation.”

Even as the message was being faxed across the region, dozens of QRMs moved on their targets...

Tourist District
City of Minamoguni
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

Much of the tourist district reflected the local economy, a relatively poor part of the Federation, where fishing and factory work made up the bulk of the employment opportunities. Unlike the fancy resorts of Mokastana, the majority of tourists that came to Moguni were locals. Anuiens who wanted to see a Neko colony and enjoy the lax vice laws of the Federation without their own communities having to bear witness. The streets were thin enough for foot traffic and the occasional scooter, with brothels and legal drug dens side by side with hostels and combat rooms. The latter being unscripted fights the locals enjoyed betting on or participating in, depending on their own preference. Despite this, the district was well policed and kept away from the main city, locals preferring to ignore it and enjoy the profits.

Despite this, there were two hotels of almost five-star quality that catered to foreigners and the wealthy. Most foreigners choose to visit Mokastana Proper, with all its modern amenities and westernization that made Aqua Anu almost primitive in comparison, but occasionally there were those who wanted to try the more “exotic" lifestyles of the Federation. At nearly a third of the cost of a Mokan hotel, these two hotels barely managed to stay half full, which meant their staff worked that much harder, being responsive and catering to every whim of their guest. Being right next to the water helped as well, as the docks for the tourist district were just a short half mile down the coast. Close enough to reach, but just far enough away to keep the noise at bay.

It was all very nice and lovely until things started exploding. In one room a man was thrown out of bed by the blast. He is Major Jesse “Overkill” Overhill. Overhill is somewhat tall coming in at 6 foot 1 inch and with shoulders that are somewhat broad. His hair is dark brown and so is the matching beard he has recently grown. The beard itself is rather thick and curly covering the entire lower half of his face. His eyes are bright green and intelligent. The portions of his face not covered by beard are weather-worn and the skin is light brown from his days in the sun with his facial features being somewhat angular. Overhill nose is a rather modest looking one slanting out from his face but it crooks near the end having been broken and not properly set in the past. It gives him a rather dashing look in a pirate sort of way. He was wearing nothing but a pair of boxer shorts.
The man just snorts and rolls over. Another explosion rocks the building
“Fucking mortar attacks….” He mumbles and yanks the sheets off the bed and rolls up in them before rolling over again and going back to sleep. He even starts to snore.
The door to his room suddenly and rapidly opens to reveal another man. He is Chief Petty Officer Aaron “Longshot” Smith He is short at around 5 foot 9 inches tall with narrow shoulders and wiry frame. He has a weasel looking face with a sharp pointed nose and sharp eyes that stare out at things in the far distance. He is dressed is a red shirt and cargo pants and boots, and an empty drop holster on his right side.
He enters the room and scans it looking for Overhill. His eyes fall on him and he walks over and firmly kicks him in the backside. And Overhill sits up looking pissed off.
“HEY YOU BETTER HAVE A DAMN GOOD REASON FOR THAT!!!” Overhill yells looking around bleary-eyed, still clearly hungover from parting last night.
Smith looks at and grunts “Fighting outside.”
“Yeah so?” Overhill says looking like he would much prefer going back to sleep despite the noise and explosions.
“Not on a mission,” Smith says “Vacation over.”
“Whaaa are you?” Another explosion rocks the building and gunfire can be heard now “Damn it. I got it now.”
Overhill gets up and starts rummaging around soon he is dressed like Smith but with a baseball cap. The whole time he is muttering
“I just got off of 3 years of straight operation…. all I wanted was a damn vacation….booze drugs and babes….so I come here ….nail some exotic poon get high and waster…. I get like 2 days into all the fun and then this WHOLE FUCKING PLACE EXPLODES INTO WAR!!!! COME ON, GOD!!! DON’T I GET A BREAK FOR ONCE?!?!”
“Done?” Smith asks him.
“Yeah, I am done grab your weapons and gear and let's go.”
Overhill grabs a backpack and a sidearm. A MacManus Orandace Five-seveN, a 5.7 mm caliber pistol favored by Force Recon operators for its small but powerful rounds and armor penetrating capabilities, holsters it and follows Smith back to his where he grabs a similar backpack and gun. Luckily Federal law is rather lenient about letting tourists carry weapons.

Outside in the hallway, a hotel worker wearing formal attire is waving his hands to the stairwell, shouting: “Kochiradesu! Kochiradesu!” At guests who seem to understand the implication. An explosion shakes the dust from the chandeliers in the hallway prompting most guests and staff to duck instinctively.

“The fuck is he saying?” Overhill asked Smith as both of them walked down the hall not bother at all by the explosions and raining debris. Smith just shrugs back at Overhill.
“Fuck us” Overhill mutters as he shakes his head and continues walking calmly past everyone else. Overhill and Smith follow the signs which were thankfully written in multiple language English and Spanish among them, and find themselves in the courtyard of the hotel, the pristine white walls on three sides with the main gate dead ahead of them. Above the walls, pillars of smoke rise up, illuminated by the fires beneath them.
“We need to get the hell out of here now.”
“Car?”
“No. Too easy of a target. We need to bunker down and call home.”

Two Nekos across the courtyard raced up to them, dodging between the carriages and automobiles of the courtyard. Their blue uniforms, red berets, and Javier Guns strapped across their chest mark the duo clearly as local police. They wave at Overhill and Smith, shouting something before switching to English: “Inside inside! Entra! Entra!” Gunfire and screams in the distance ride the salty winds.
Overhill looks at Smith and Smith looks at Overhill and then they both look at the cops
“No thank you. Sorry, but it is not safe in there. People screaming and running the place is coming down and they really need your help.” Overhill says and he and Smith dart off down the street at a run as more gunfire erupts behind them. The police mutter something between them, but let them pass. Outside the gates, there are people running away from the coast. A few are carrying rifles or other weapons, but all looked more panicked than organized. Every now and then a Police scooter zooms by.

“Fuck me I want my ACS so bad right now.” Overhill mumbles. Smith grunts in agreement. “Fucking cops on scooters? Seriously? Meep meep pulls over and stops blowing our city, please. Fucking hell.” Overhill says sarcastically to himself. Both of them continue to look at the buildings around them until they find a good one to bunker down at, a parking garage for a rental car company. A stout three-story building made of thick concrete slabs and pillars, good overhead cover and solid construction and not an obvious target. They dart inside, breaking open a door that leads to electrical conduits and breakers as the sounds of jets flying too low pass overhead. Smith turns and guards the door while Overhill rummages in his bag and pulls out a sat phone. He turns it on and waits for it to get a signal then dials a number. The phone rings for a minute then answers
“This is SOCOM office. How can you fuck off today?”
“Cut the shit, Buckley. It's me Overkill.”
“Hey, how's the land of cheap poon and drugs?”
“Exploding”
“Sounds like fun.”
“No I mean literally it has turned into a fucking war zone.”
“Well, that sucks.”
“I know I am ass deep in it with only Smith and a pair of pistols between us.”
“Shit.”
“Yeah now get me, General Alexander, now.”
The phone goes quiet for a few seconds then a gruff voice comes on.
“General Alexander here. Go.”
“General it's Overkill. I and Longshot are in some deep shit.”
“How?”
“The Aqua Una has exploded. It's a fucking war zone.”
“Shit.”
“I know. We are in some deep shit.”
“Okay, you two stay alive. I will arrange an intel update and see about an evac. If you can get out yourselves, then do it.”
“Understood. Overhill out.”
“Alexander out.”
The line cuts off and then Overhill closes it and turns it off and stuffs it back into his backpack.
“Longshot we got to wait.”
He grunts
“Choas is arranging an evac and an intel update. We just gotta stay alive.”
Smith grunts at him.
“Just another day in glorious day in Force Recon.” Overhill mutters to himself and Smith snorts derisively.

I choose the second definition of it. This meaning rule by virtue and not owning land to be allowed to vote or hold political office. Instead one is required to serve time in the military (currently 6 years)

Village of Takara
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

Sebastian Wedou rode his bicycle into the outskirts of the village, passing a windmill and a few farm houses. Going in the opposite direction were dozens of people trying to flee on foot or bike. Cars were uncommon this far out, especially on the islands where pubic transportation and ferries made travel much easier, but the few privately owned cars he did see were packed with people. Either wealthy families packing everyone into their car or someone picking up every refugee they could fit. Very few people like him were heading into the village, mostly local farmers and armed civilians trying to provide aide.

Then the dirt kicked up in front of him, and a scooter driver fell over, screaming in pain. Thunder in the distance made Sebastian turn his head to a row of vehicles in the distance, flashes of light followed by the dirt and whizzing noises around him registered as a threat, but he didn't react, it was still so surreal. They were shooting at him and the fleeing civilians. As he watched, someone tackled him to the ground.

“Goddess forgive you kid, stay down and get behind cover!”

The militia soldier had snapped Sebastian out of it and now he scrambled for a tree, a hill, anything to hide from the incoming fire. Bullets struck the windmill and buildings as he cowered. The farmhouse that a few people his behind was meters away. With death touching down all around him, all he could do was pray the Holy Marsh would save him.

Second later, but perhaps an eon in his mind, his prayers were answered by loud boom followed by an explosion, and the bouncing dirt stopped. Sebastian looked up and saw the lead vehicle had stopped shooting, stopped moving, and smoke was beginning to rise up from it, only for flames to begin to pour out. On another hill, a much larger vehicle became obvious. It was a tank, his high school's training tank! He recognized that color scheme from even this far away! The teachers DID have real ammo for it! He knew it! The smaller vehicles that had been attacking him turned away from the tank, trying to get behind a hill when the canon roared again. Another vehicle ceased and begin smoking. In an instant a fog engulfed the remaining vehicles, a thick cloud to hide their retreat. Sebastian looked on in amazement, until that same hand that had pushed him down now picked him up.

“Get out of here kid! Run now!”

Payton Naval Command Station,
Magdalene Island,
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

Primary Admiral Dutch Marie Payton sleep soundly next to her wife when the phone rang. It was not too uncommon for the Navy to have problems that required her time at odd hours of the night. Marie’s wife could grumble, but her own work in the Anuien government meant she had her own late night calls when things went awry. Unfortunately, given their time difference with Greater Dienstad, major events in Mokastana tended to happen either just before morning, or just after going to bed. Seeing as the sun had just set, Marie assumed some major daytime event had occurred in Eastern GD, perhaps an Ordenite and Mokan vessel had clipped each other and Juventud wanted all hands on deck. Not like the Diestani cared for what happened this far East. She answered the phone with a slightly groggy 'Hello'.

“Primary Admiral, Moguni Island is under attack by unknown forces, initial reports point to Kogyokist Militias. 20th Fleet is on route to provide support. I am sending an escort to your home to bring you in.”

Marie sat up straight, suddenly very concerned.

“What all assets do we have on the island?”

“A Maritime Regiment, and a few Shore Guard battalions. Full National Police Division and the Marshall Services. Mobilization orders for the island are going out now. On Sindo island the 9th Naval Infantry Division is mobilizing as well.”

“Order mobilization for every island nearby, everything. Same for Nippon Island Chain. What about militia?”

“About 9,000 militia on the island. They are reporting contact with the attackers.”

Behind Marie, her wife Marina, had woken up, catching the way her wife straightened to military attention in the bed and the concerning dialogue she shared in the phone. Something bad had happened, something major. She put her hand against her wife's back, feeling the tension grow with each passing question.

“Very well, consider this mobile the proper way to reach me until I'm in. I'll be getting dressed.”

With that Marie hung up the phone exhaled a defeated sigh, taking a moment to collect herself before turning to her wife. Marina, the former High Dutchess, saw the look in Marie's eyes, and took her hand and kissed it softly, trying to comfort the old soldier. Marie had no words of comfort, only the unfortunate truth from a military leader who had seen to many wars in her long life.

“I'm sorry my love, but a war begins tonight. I'm needed at command. Our retainers will be on guard and will keep you safe. I must go."

Marie squeezed her wife's hand, gently, and gave her a final kiss before leaving the bed. Once again, Dutch Marie Payton went to war.

GMB Angelic Path
San Antonio Class floating dock
Off the coast of Moguni Island, Aqua Anu

The LCAC revved up it's engines and pushed away from the Floating Dock. The Colonel smiled, poking his head out from a strapped down armored vehicle. The city burned ahead of him, smoke and fire rose from the docks, no doubt his forces were pushing inland with great haste. He could almost make out the hotels burning in the distance. Not one of his men had any illusions of surviving tonight, but they intended on killing as many Oni as they could before then. Below him, his personal Guard were loaded up in the three Ironhearts, including his own command and control one. The other LCAC carrying more armored IFVs moved ahead of his own towards the shore. These heavy Ironheart IFVs would make a difference for awhile. No doubt the Marshites and Federales were mobilizing now, but for the moment his forces had enough time to slaughter Tenshu’s enemies.

Until the missile streaked passed him and an explosion tore into the side of the Angelic Path. Others missiles raced passed as Rolling Airframe Missiles reached out from his ships to defend themselves. Flashes of heat and fire tore through the evening sky as the initial barrage struck. The guns of the BattleAxe cruiser tore open in a bright flame and thunderous roar as a lucky missile got past. The colonel ducked back into his IFV and began demanding reports.

Marshite Militia warships, illegally possessing anti ship missiles, were attacking from the West. It seems their estimates for response times were wrong. Within the confines of the IFV, the Colonel listened to the radio traffic between his fleet and transport craft. The dull roar of the LCAC engines and waves of the ocean faded to the background as the first damage reports came in. The Angelic Path was sinking, two missiles and a group of torpedoes tore into her sides, practically flipping her with the water displacement. The Battle Axe cruiser, pride of the Followers Fleet, was burning, her main guns disabled but secondary ones fighting off the attackers who came in danger close as it tried to beach itself on the coastline. The two Freedom Class warships were now down to one, with one absorbing enough missiles to sink it almost instantly, while the second managed to avoid being hit. It was opening up with its own guns and anti tank Hellfire missiles at close range.

He yelled into his Mic, trying to keep what little aircraft he had in the fight as long as possible “Keep the helicopters in city. The fleet is giving their life for Tenshu! Keep fighting! Fleet, commence beaching yourself. Crews will join the fighting in the city!” . The LCAC continued to race towards the shore as the fleet covered his escape in their own race to reach the land.

City of Minamoguni
Militia blockade of 26th street
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

Lieutenant Hayashi Sayuri helped to drag the next wounded soldier into the lobby by her blockade. The shelling from the sea had stopped, and the attackers had been probing other defensive lines, breaking through at 28th Street to the West and 19th in the East. Main ran parallel with the Sea, meaning with those two blockades down, her location might get encircled. She didn't like the odds, and was ordering any abled body soldier under her command to reinforce the street barricades and do whatever it took to keep enemy amour from reaching her position. With the Armory and Main Street office gone, the Lieutenant Major KIA, she was now in command of the Company. At peak strength, that would be around 200 Neko soldiers. Now, it was maybe half that, if she could rally the survivors. 28th Blockade was in route, 18 survivors, 7 wounded, while 19th pulled back early 29 alive but at least half wounded.

“Have we been able to raise Battalion Command yet? Or anyone?” She motioned to her radio operator, who just shrugged while trying to tie a bandage on a fellow soldiers leg. The Kogyokists must have had some help with the Jamming tech. No militia was allowed to own that good of equipment. Overhead the sounds of Federal Aircraft passed overhead, nice and low, towards the sea. She sat down, and unfolded her city map. A Parking garage half kilometer east of here, but that was on the wrong side of the 28th Blockade, which just fell to the Kogyokists. A few blocks north was a factory, it might have trucks or at least carriages to evacuate with, assuming civilians didn't already get to them.

“Gao, take your squad and get to this factory, find me anything we can use to get the wounded out of here before we are surrounded.”

“Lieutenant, we're getting a signal!”

“Let me have it!” she raced up and grabbed the headset from her radio operator.

“..... to your aid. We will enga…. Main Street Garrison and secure….. there. More help is on …….Und QRM will be …..
our. More mil…. forces will follow. You will never fight alone. Praise be to the Holy Marsh! May the Federation Prosper Forever!”

Main street garrison! Her garrison! She breathed a sigh of relief when the communicator praised the Holy Marsh. The Marshites were always the better financed and supplied militia, but she was grateful they were on her side. Slamming her thumb down on the send button, she began:

“This is Lieutenant Hayashi of the Main Street Garrison, radios are compromised, repeat, radios are compromised. Line is holding, requesting immediate aide!”

Gringo Garage and Rental Cars
Outside of the Tourist District
City of Minamoguni, Moguni Island

Ryu Chinsun and her sister Ryu Hyun ran between back alleys and dodged produce boxes trying to get to safety. Being Neko, their slender and more powerful frames allowed them to outrun their human hunters with relative ease, but the hunters were far better armed. Ahead of them their friend Song Insu was clearing the way, until they found themselves in a wide automobile street, in front of a Parking Garage. Most of the vehicles were already taken, used in the evacuation of the city, but perhaps the owner was still around. If he had left, maybe there were keys. Hyun may have only been a junior, but she was on the High School Kompe Sokashu team, and had the basics of how to drive a vehicle.

Insu turned around to wave the girls into the garage when around the corner two Kogyokist Militiamen appeared. Insu had a pistol, a product of being a Neko male on an island not far from their enemies, and turned to shoot. He fired several shots as the girls passed behind him. He was a good shot in perfect conditions, but this was far from perfect. Still, one of his bullets hit the Militia’s amour, bouncing off and probably leaving a slight bruise underneath. The militia soldiers, however, had FALs, and saw the group of Oni trying to flee. One aimed at the Neko boy with the gun, while the other shot at the girls. Two targets fell.

Chinsun hit the concrete wall of the parking garage and turned to see her sister and childhood friend laying in the street, blood collecting around them. She stood in shock, unable to move as the two militia soldiers approached and shouldered their rifles, choosing instead to draw their short Tantos for a more personal kill. One grabbed her sister by her head fur and exposed her long pale neck, before raising the blade up for the first strike.

Aaron “Longshot” Smith is a sharpshooter and sniper for the Timocratic Republic Special Operations Command Force Recon. Smith had a rough life, second oldest of eight kids from dirt poor area. His father had left his family earlier on and his mom had been forced to raise them herself. Smith wanted to help support his family and the only way real way was poaching. Smith hunted drakon from the young age of ten by himself. Killing a drakon meant his family could eat for a few months well, so he hunted them and became a really good shot. Along the way he learned many things among them a strong moral code.

From his post at the door, Smith watched everything go down, including the kid’s bodies. Smith reacted. He opened the door and stepped out. He lined up his sights like he had done a million times before on the man with the knife and squeezed the trigger. Boom. The man got a hole in the middle of his head. He dropped dead. Behind him he heard Overhill curse and scramble after him.
“What are you-?” Overhill said as he followed him until he saw what was going on and his old reflexes kicked in. He snapped up his pistol and fired at the second man, putting three rounds in his chest before the militia soldier could raise his FAL. Smith and Overhill ran over to the down kids to see if they could save them. The boy had taken three rounds to the chest and was coughing up blood, muttering something in the local language. The girl had been hit once, but it was in the lower abdomen, her cries of pain were getting louder with each breath.

“Longshot tend to these two. Just give them some morphine they are not long for this world I will see about the others.”
Smith nods and digs into his pack and pulls out a medical kit and the kids are soon in a blissful drug induced pain free state. Overhill turns and approaches the other kid.
“Hey there kid what's your name? Mine’s Jesse. Do you speak english or spanish?”

The girl doesn’t even turn to look at him, only staring ahead and her sister, before something snapped and she runs, screaming, crying, “Hyun!” grabbing her sister and muttering various words between sobs in a delirious state. Her sister, finally feeling the morphine hitting her system, stops screaming in pain and holds Chinsun close. In the distance, the shouts of more soldiers can be heard.

“Well shit.” Overhill says he turns and raid the fallen soldiers taking there FALs and ammo and anything else on them he can find. He then dashes over and grabs the kids and drags them into the parking deck and Smith helps him. They hide the kids in the maintenance room they were using earlier. Then both of them take cover behind a concrete barrier and wait.
“Why do we always end up in deep shit Longshot?” Overhill asks with a tired sigh
“Luck” he grunts back taking an FAL and ammo from Overhill and checking it over before making some minor adjustment to the sights.

Across the street, a small group of Tenshu Milita Men enter the street, rifles up and scanning around them, before turning to see the bodies in the street. Shouts are heard as the lead units move up to the corpses and others begin to find cover behind the buildings. As Smith begins lining up his first target, something catches the militia’s attention down the street, most turn that way and begin to open fire. The thunder of FALs erupting as a Green Humvee races pass and crashes into the back alley the militia cowered in. Militia fire into the vehicle, attempting to kill the driver, as a second catches up and two Nekos in olive green attire, exit and begin to open fire with rifles of their own. Both Humvees have painted on the side in bright white letters: “Kokka Jingcha” and underneath, in much smaller lettering ”Policìa Nacional”.
“Sweet Calvary.” Overhill says smiling and he fire on the militia. Next to him Smith calmly plugs away with his FAL, every trigger pull means a man drops dead. And soon the engagement is over with the few survivors retreating quickly.
Overhill breaks cover and walks up the Humvee with his arms held up holding the gun.
“Hey there. Anyone here speak english? Or spanish?”

One Officer turns to him, lowers her weapon, and responds in Spanish: “Identify yourself, who are are you?”

“Thank fucking Christ.” Overhill mutters to himself before speaking up “I am Jesse Overhill and I am here with a friend, Aaron Smith, and I am a tourist here. We have some wounded kids that need immediate medical attention over there.” Overhill points to the parking deck.

“Let’s get them loaded up, thankfully the attackers only targeted our police stations and miltia armories before they got taken out.”

Two more officers arrived via scooters, in their obvious blue uniforms and red berets, and were quickly ordered to help out by the National Police. In the local language they ordered the girls into the back of the Humvee. Where the large seats and armored doors would offer decent protection. As the girls were getting loaded up, the National Police Officer turned back to Overhill and Aaron.

“This area is about to be overrun by militia, do either of you know how to drive? We need to commandeer as many of these vehicles as we can and get them back to the… well, I guess you could call it the temporary Police HQ.”

“Yeah we need a ride and yeah we can drive. I don’t suppose you got any keys though?” The police officer shakes her head signalling no “Well alright then. That’s no problem. How many cars you want?” Overhill asks smiling as he digs some tools out of his backpack. Overhill walks over to the nearest car and begins breaking into it.

“Gentlemen,” The officer says, questioning her word choice, “We can check the manager's office for keys, I already have an officer doing so.” She looked over to the main office, where a local police officer was already inside. Behind them, the Humvee was turning around and taking off, the kids and the wounded officers inside being taken to the hospital on the far north side of the city.

Waters off Minamoguni
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

The barrage had worked as intended. The damage to the cruiser had disabled it. The secondary guns could still fire but the chaos and confusion of the burning vessel made it difficult for the militiamen who manned it to truly get a bead on the quick-moving FACs that swirled around the area. The second Freedom-class had survived- this needed to be rectified. The final barrage of missiles was launched.

“FREEDOM BRAVO, MISSILE 8! MISSILE 9! MISSILE 10!”

Fifteen missiles were fired at dangerously close range at the surviving Freedom-class.

“FIRE ALL OTHER MISSILES AT THE BATTLEAXE!”

They complied, a further ten missiles launching towards the wounded Battlexe.

The five FACs all launched their final anti-ship missiles at dangerously close range, along with torpedos, emptying themselves of anti-capital weapons. After this, they broke off entirely from the attack on the main vessels. At least for now. They had a more important target in mind.

All five broke off, weaving through the chaos until they were in and amongst the LCACs. If the enemy chose to fire then they risked hitting their own men- and either way, a victory for the Marshites. As they approached and grew closer there was a command from all five FACs.

“Guns! Guns!”

Each FAC-36 came equipped with four rapid firing 79mm guns. Each one opened up on an LCAC, peppering it at close range with dozens of powerful shells before pulling back, vast overkill for the job. When and if vehicles inside of the LCACs could be spotted as they fell apart the FAC-36s would fire on them as well, and the men inside as they tried to spill out. There would be no mercy of fairness granted to such vile creatures as would attack the innocent.

“Pull back! Reorder!”

The FAC-36s did so, pulling back. The melee hadn't gone without lose entirely. Gunfire was too difficult for the lumbering ships but the Hellfire missiles fired by the Freedom had some impact. It lacked the punch necessary to destroy a FAC-36 and the FAC-36's design features made it inherently more difficult to track and defeat for such a missile, but the Militia weren't trained well enough to fully bring those advantages to battle. A single Hellfire missile had struck Moguni Sea Viper 4 on the top well deck. It had pierced the top and caused damage to the main operations deck. A fire was reported and was under control, but it had sustained multiple casualties.

“Viper 4, when we've crossed the safe line-” the commander said, referencing the point where geographical features and speed made them safe from attacking fire, “scuttle the ship. Viper 5, pull in and pick up the crew of 4.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Roger.”

“Vipers one through three, ammo check.”

“Viper one. Missiles, out. Torpedos, out. Guns, 130 rounds remaining.”

“Viper two. Missiles, out. Torpedos, out. Guns, 156 rounds remaining.”

“Viper three. Missiles, out. Torpedos, out. Guns, 103 rounds remaining.”

Silence.

“Vipers one-three, wait for four-five to complete their task and wait for battle damage analysis. We'll head back in after four-five are finished. When we get back in, expend everything viable targets.”

Reijas sighed, allowing himself to lean back and take a deep breath. His nerves were shot. Everything felt like it was on fire. He took a quick count of the ships they had fired at. He wasn't an expert by any stretch but a handful of small ships ripping apart such a large force felt like big win for the good guys. As Viper two made its way with the rest to accomplish their next task and the sound of jets roared in the distance, it all felt...righteous.

“This is Lieutenant Hayashi of the Main Street Garrison, radios are compromised, repeat, radios are compromised. Line is holding, requesting immediate aide!”

“Aide is almost there, Lieutenant Hayashi. Prepare for friendlies,” the Colonel said with a smile, not even responding to the words that informed her of the compromised line. Of course they would be compromised. How else could a small landing force like this make it so far without much in the way of a threat to it and land initially unopposed? She wasn't a member of any specialist intelligence branch but she wasn't a fool either.

Besides, turnabout was fair play.
Kestrel UAVs had been set up in large amounts when the QRM moved in. Every moment that passed its intelligence envelope expanded. They couldn't make use of a good deal of its features but it gave them a good idea of the numbers and movements of their enemy. It also allowed them to launch their own electronic warfare operation with a simple press of the button. Kestrels came equipped with battlespace-aided electronic jamming and communications shunting methods and technologies. As more appeared the capabilities grew exponentially. As the Colonel and her force approached Main Street, she nodded to one of her aides.

“Launch it.”

“Yes, ma'am.”

A press of the button later and Kyogist communication methods were being brought down one by one. Indeed, the fact they were listening in made it easier for even basic SACHERI to piggyback, cross-reference, and destroy from within. Soon, perhaps just a few minutes, the Kyogists would be suffering from crippling communication issues. At the same time the Kestrels would start buffing allied communication networks, making them more encrypted and harder to crack, changing codes and attempting to deny access from non-approved channels. That would solve a major problem. Probably start some other ones, but beggars couldn't be choosers.

Soon they arrived at the Main Street Garrison. Before they had arrived of course long-range artillery had pounded the positions of any suspected Kyogist force. As they came into view the MAV-31s and Buckler Gun Trucks started firing at what targets the Kestrels had given them, heavy autocannon, machine gun, and grenade launcher fire raking their target zones. Eventually the MGS' got within range and added their heavy cannons to the fray. The IFVs opened up and disgorged their occupants, who ran for cover. Friendly vehicles, buildings, anything they could use, firing at any vile Kyogist that made their presence known.

One IFV opened up and out came the Colonel and her compatriots, who calmly walked through the fire until she could find the Lieutenant, lighting up a cigarette as she did so. “Hayashi, is it? We're here to help you,” she said as an aide tapped her on the shoulder and leaned in.

“Ma'am, the tourist district is seeing heavy attacks, and we're nowhere close. No one can get there until QRM 2 is on scene later in the hour. And by then-”

“Yes, more innocents will be killed. Tell Finrer company to send a Strike Team over there to do what they can.”

“Yes, ma'am.”

He left. The Colonel looked back. Taking a puff of her cigarette nonchalantly as she still stood up, the Colonel's figure cut that of someone unconcerned with her own safety.

“Lieutenant Hayashi, sitrep?”

The MA-300 barked angrily out at the Kyogist militia that Kaisir saw, the medium-sized rounds going downrange with such speed and velocity that it spun Kyogist targets around when they connected like a bad target game at a carnival. The only addition was a red mist where the rounds struck and the shrieking and dying that came. Kaisir fired and fired, watching more than a few men die as the gun barked, growl, and bit its way through flesh. It was all for a good cause, though.

Kaisir was the gunner on a LA-30, his armored cupola pock-marked with return fire but leaving him unscathed. He was armored in faith as well and felt as if nothing could touch him. The Kyogist scum that had launched this attack and interrupted his preparations for a late-night sparring match deserved nothing less than annihilation and he was an instrument of that divine mandate. His weapon to accomplish this was the MA-300 'light' machine gun, even if it qualified as a GPMG or even heavy MG by other nation's standards. He was the gunner of Finrer Company's command Magister which suited him just fine since the captain wanted little more than glory and martyrdom in the name of Faith and State.

Reasonable goals.
“Finrer company, listen up!” Kaisir instinctively looked down through the hole and saw his captain, a young man with a beautiful smile and face that hid absolutely batshit crazy eyes, speaking into the company's comm gear.

“Just got word that the tourist district is in serious trouble. I need a Strike Team to head there and kick some ass until they die or get relieved, barring other orders. I'll take it-”

Kaisir gave a shout of agreement.

“-and I want One-Three and Two-Two with me. Mount up and follow my markings in 20 seconds,” he finished, messing with the vehicles squad-linked navigational data. Each vehicle had it of course, but his had a unique connection with the Kestrels above. One-Three was an ambulance variant. Still had an MA-300, but it would be nice to have the ability to evacuate the wounded. Two-Two had two MATW-9EB Alsertan Punch 90mm cannons on top of it and would act as heavy escort.

Time passed. Kaisir said a prayer and checked his ammo.

“Move out! Top Speed until we reach those people!”

Prayers answered- time to fight.

City of Minamoguni
Kogyokist Militia Landing Zone
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

The four LY10s had been kept in reserve, guarding the docks and landing zones while the Mechanized infantry pushed into the city. Around them, craters and collapsed buildings showed the effect of Marshite Militia artillery. One LY10 sat smoldering, hit by a lucky artillery round. Luckily by this point the smoke from the various fires had begun to cloud fire sky, forcing Marshite drones to either get in rifle range to investigate, or remain above with only partial pictures of the situation. Counter measures in the form of EMP weapons were also fired into the sky. Out at sea, the counter attack had struck sooner than expected and with a welcome ferocity, when the first missile barrage had begun the LY10s pulled close to the shore, holding position behind debris and waiting to protect their incoming reinforcements.

The LCACs raced for the shore. The Colonel tightened his straps and waited, listening to the radio update him on friendly units and the counter striking militia boats. A thunderous roar shook his craft. They were blind in the APC, but the Colonel knew God wouldn't lead him this far only to sacrifice him at sea. He was the driving force behind this coup, he would see it through. Another violent shake and the radio went silent, but he could feel the craft had continued on. Something must have knocked out his APC’s radio antenna, no matter, he could set up a headquarters somewhere on the coast once they made landfall. Even as the ship rocked while under fire, he and his soldiers remained calm. They were soldiers of Tenshu, they would make it. Another roar shook the craft so hard that it would have slammed him into a wall had he not tightened up his straps. It must have only been a few minutes of sustained fire, but that should have been more than enough to bring him down to the bottom of the sea. Eventually what felt like a wall slammed into the APC, and suddenly the entire ship stopped moving. Everything was still as the distant sounds of thunder were muffled against the armored personnel carrier.

“Driver, what is our situation?”

“I cannot reach the LCAC sir!”

“Fine, let me!”

The Colonel removed his straps, and climbed up, opening the commander’s hatch and looking outside.....It was glorious.

The city in front of him was on fire, with tall black pillars of smoke rising from earth, each a fire purifying the Earth of the Yonkai. Although the docks had been ravaged by Marshite Militia Artillery, his troops were still making it on land and pushing further in. He could see their success in the bodies of numerous Nekos and their corrupted allies in the streets ahead of him, freed of their mortal forms to meet with their creators directly. Either back the demon realm, or to the Heavenly Father to beg for forgiveness, for none would have it from him. To his left, was the other LCAC, heavily damaged but ramp down unloading it’s APCs. Why wasn’t his doing that?

He turned to the crew compartment and saw only a smoking black mess of twisted metal where a driver had once been. The engine on that side had also been struck, pouring smoke. One of his APCs to the side of his own had taken a few hits, a small fire licking it’s way out of the wound in the side. His own APC was missing it’s radio antenna, what looked like a close blast took out the antenna and not much else. They had still managed to make it to land, however, they only stopped when the front of the LCAC crashed into the coast, and then into a small administration building. The front end of the LCAC was anything but useful at this point. Turning back down towards his soldiers, the colonel yelled:

“Come on out everyone! We’ve made it, abandoned the LCAC and disembark. We have a mission to achieve!”

City of Minamoguni
Militia blockade of 26th street
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

Lieutenant Hayashi Sayuri looked out the busted windows of her building and saw numerous armored personnel carriers arrive, this time from further in the city. Reinforcements has arrived.

“Kenji, we got reinforcements, how are the roads?”

“Clear for the moment!”

Sayuri watched as the Marshite militia took up positions, reinforcing her blockade and giving her the manpower she needed to hold the place, but most importantly, those Amphibious APCs could get her wounded to safety. The sound of gunfire from a block over told her that the reinforcements had found some enemy forces she had missed, but when your company is down to a few squads worth of combat effective soldiers, it was easy to miss anyone.

One armored vehicle parked just outside of her building where a soldier was waving them in. The Marshites, in all their glory, chose to walk casually into the building where Sayuri was holded up. Once the Colonel entered, however, her question would be more rhetorical than informational. First was the smell of blood and bile, as the few soldiers able to went from body to body checking on wounded and applying bandages that they could. A quick glance and nearly two to three dozen bodies lay in the Office building’s main lobby and open offices, most glass walls either shot out or intentionally busted to make travel easier. Most wounded didn’t even had the luxury of a table or chair, instead mostly lying the floor up against walls where they would be out of the way. A few even propped themselves up in windows, rifle hanging out with one hand while the other held a bandage or gauze on themselves or another. It was a desperate situation, slowly filling with wounded as every patrol that could slowly made it back.

“Lieutenant Hayashi, sitrep?”

Lieutenant Hayashi made her way to the Colonel. Her face and fur made it clear she had been here since the first strike. Blood smear and building dust covered her face, and a spent 7.62 casing was lodged in her flak vest, but she didn’t seem like she noticed it yet.

“Situation has gone to hell ma’am. I have roughly 30 wounded here and half that able to fight. My Company is scattered across ten blocks and we need to get these wounded to a field hospital ASAP. I have a team scouting for any vehicles to commandeer but truth be told, the only reason we are still here is that we lack the means to evacuate.”

As the Colonel begins to respond, a low roar of a helicopter flies overhead, a single ASH-12 Buzzer flies into view and circles the building, before hovering for a few seconds, and taking off. One soldier shouts out: “It’s the Federal Army! They’ve made it!” Shouts are heard from upstairs, and soon boots march down the staircase towards the lobby. Four men dressed lightly in Dauntless armor and carrying HILARs come down, escorted by a single Neko Militia soldier, and approach the commanders. One of the soldiers reaches the Colonel and extends a hand.

“Federal Army, Suzuki Daiki, Sergeant Major. Are you in command here?”

The female National Police officer hands both Overhill and Smith a set of keys. One was for a medium size former army truck, and the other for a flatbed pick up.

“I’ll need a ride with one of you, but the local PD will lead the way back to the evacuation point.”
“With me,” Overhill says to her. Overhill climbed into the former army truck and Smith into the flatbed truck.

“Alright then, let's go.” the officer climbs in the truck, adjusting her body armor and rolling down the window to aim her FAL out of. Lowering the goggles on her helmet, she keeps an eye on the road and motions to the other officers once Overhill and Longshot have their trucks ready to go. They cranked them up and joined the convoy.

The two scooter officers start up their vehicles and wait for Overhill and Smith to get behind them. Once the convoy was ready, the two scooters turn on their flashing blue lights and race ahead on the wide automobile streets back towards the East and, unknown to them, the main street garrison.

“I imagine this wasn’t the vacation you were expecting when you got here, was it?”
The National Police officer turns her head a little bit to ask Overhill a question as the convoy drives on, her FAL still aimed out the window.

Overhill nodded as he drove the former army truck.
“Yeah, I came here for cheap poon and booze. I get some time off for the first time in 3 years and I get dropped into a war zone. This is not my idea of a good vacation. I want loose women and cheap booze, for starters.” Overhill says then adds with a quiet mutter “It's another day at the office.”

“You know, most people don't consider getting shot at a normal day at the office.”

“Most people work boring ass jobs besides do I look like the type to ride a desk?” Overhill said back surprised she had heard him.

“I don't know what you do, Mr. Overhill, but at this point, I'm just grateful you know how to use a gun and aren't aiming it at police.”

“Security.”

“Is that so? Well, do you mind if the National Police ask you and your friend to help us out here? We're waiting on the Federal Army but word is that saboteurs hit the roads here. Got the army bogged down for the moment.”

“I suppose we can but only for a short time. Both of us want out of here as soon as possible. No offense but this is not our fight.”

“Of course, I don't want to send you to the front, we just need someone to drive the civilians out of the city. You'll have an armed escort. Might just be me and another Policewoman though.”

“Great also...can we get some decent gear possibly? This stuff is crap to tell you the truth. This FAL has not been properly cleaned in years and this body armor is way out of date.”

“We might be able to loan you some body armor, but most everyone in this fight is carrying FALs or AKs. We'd have to hit a gun shop for something else.”

“Guess we will have to make do then…” Overhill said with a sigh. A few moments passed as the convoy turned down a few tighter streets and crossed a small bridge.

“Sorry for the late introductions, I'm Corporal Nakamura Maria. My unit was supposed to be keeping the peace in the city, looks like that didn't quite work out.”

As she spoke the convoy turned and saw a small blockade formed with two police Humvees, behind them was the street that was being used as the ‘temporary’ police command. Dozens of people lined the streets, either tending to wounded or waiting for something to happen. A few police officers walked among them, keeping the more excited ones off the road so the trucks could pull in. On both sides, strong looking buildings made this the main road with only two ways in or out. To the right, what looked like an attempt at a field hospital was set up, treating civilian and militia alike. The cries of the wounded were drowned out by the cheers of the crowd, excited trucks had arrived, for trucks meant evacuation.

A National Police officer walked up to Overhill’s truck and started to say something before noticing Overhill’s pale complexion. Switching to a Wellovian English he tried again: “Park here and out, police truck now.”

Overhill looked over the all too familiar scene before him. As a veteran of many wars, some fought in the light others in the black, these scenes of carnage were all too familiar to him. But that did not stop him from feeling his heart lurch at the sight of kids and woman hurting. He parked and go out of the truck and looked around. Smith parked and exited and was soon beside him. He looked around and sighed.
“You gonna get involved again?”
“Maybe…”
“This is not our fight…”
“And? Has that ever stopped us before?”
Smith shrugs“No… need overwatch?”
“You gonna provide?”
Smith looks at him with a single raised eyebrow saying without words “who else?”
“Yeah”

As Corporal Nakamura spoke with the officer who ordered the duo out of the trucks. Smith and Overhill could overhear a soldier a few feet away, trying to avoid the crowds clamoring for the truck. Unlike the police, his uniform was using the Full Spectrum camouflage of the Federal Army, complete with light Dauntless armor and a HILAR rifle hanging from his side. Velcro flaps on both shoulders hid his unit and rank information, but he and three other men with him stuck out among the refugees and police. Ther speaking soldier wasn't addressing his men, but seemed to be having a quiet conversation with himself:

“Listen, we don't have time to wait for the army. They are killing civilians.”

“No, as in the civilians are the primary target. The survivors are telling me they are packing people into buildings and then tossing grenades into the windows. Probably incendiary based on the descriptions.”

“Listen…. Yes, the militias are still rallying, but the attackers are still pushing in…. No, the police are doing the evac…. Look, you still need someone offsides. I'm going…. They'll be on top of us soon enough even if we stay."

As the two overhead the soldier barking quietly into his mic, Corporal Nakamura came back up to them.
“Since you guys are foreigners and brought the trucks, we can get you on the next convoy out of the city. However, my commanding officer is too proud to say this, but I've seen you fight, we could really use your help. Plus, there is a gun shop just around the corner, we can see if they still have anything in stock.”

Overhill looks at her and nods.
“Lead the way. Smith wants a new rifle, he does not like the one he has got. And I am not a fan of this one either.”
“Junk,” Smith says with a disgusted look, which for him was just a mild sneer.

“Thank you, follow me,” Corporal Nakamura Maria led them around the corner to a small concrete storefront. Inside was a dusty room with a few bare walls and a couple of uniformed police officers carrying Marshite designed rifles. The counter in the back was manned by a petite girl with raven black hair and a dusty coat. She smiled and spoke rapidly to Maria who smiled and spoke back, a few lines were exchanged before Maria turned to her guests and the girl with Raven hair went into a back room.

Overhill and Smith followed Corporal Maria into the gun store. They entered and looked around.
“Nice” Overhill said looking at the clerk, giving her crooked smile that made him look like a pirate out of a romance novel. Smith grunted but he was looking at the array of firearms.

“Gentlemen, it seems like most of his weapons have been commandeered by the national police. However, he has a few in the back for you.”
Overhill walked up to the counter still with that crooked smile.
“So what you got for a miss? I am sure it is of very good quality.” Overhill said to the clerk.
Behind him, Smith rolled his eyes and sighed.

The Marshite with raven black hair came back to the counter with a few boxes and a big smile, responding well to Overhill's advances.
“Only the best around these parts, call me Sam.” The Marshite responded before opening up the first box.

“MA-20 Designated Marksman Rifle, set for 6.5 JMC, a marshite sniper rifle, using the same caliber as the Federal Army. Since they haven't shown up yet. My legally required stock of 6.5 Yanitarian is still pretty full. Also, have a BCR and Lyran AY144L Assault Rifle in the back.”

Smith shoulders Overhill aside and looks over the sniper rifles.
“7.62?”

“Still got a couple of those. Do you like the EBR? XM8? Can't sell the XM8 so I'd love to give it away to you all. Everything I lose during in an invasion is an insurance claim.”

“EBR. Ammo?” Smith asked still looking over the rifles
“And does the sweet lady have any belt feds on hand? Or extra chemicals? I need to whip up a few things.”

“Oh. Do you need explosives? Police already took my unguided rockets, but what kind of Marshite would I be without a few tricks. Wait here.”

The Marshite winked at Overhill and turned to the back room, shaking hips clearly visible on the way back. Overhill smiled as he watched her leave.

Coming back with a few more boxes and containers, Sam set the ERB down with a few boxes of ammo, smiling at Smith: “1,000 rounds and fresh out of the box ERB for you dear. The scope may need to be zeroed in."

Smith grunts a thank you at Sam and takes the gun. He looks it over and disassembles it then quickly goes over the part then reassembles it.
“Range?” He asks Sam in a polite tone and Sam pointed to a door. Smith took the M14 EBR, some magazines, and some ammo and headed over to the range.
“Hey,” Overhill says “you have not given me anything yet. I need an assault rifle or a belt-fed if you got any to spare.”

“You're not the kind who likes to wait, are you?” Sam flirted back, “Still got that XM8 lovely, or the FN SCAR. If that's too much for you I have a couple Montana Defense M4s in 5.56.”

“I will take the SCAR then.” Overhill takes the rifle and looks it over “Ah the SCAR-H battle rifle. Hello old friend.” Smith disassembles it and looks over the parts.
“You happen to have any other attachments? Any under barrel add-ons? Or suppressors?” Smith asked as he went over the gun and eventually reassembled it
“What about sights? Got any ACOG or Eotech?”

“Boys are good with your hands, don't die out there,” Sam winks, “as for attachments, not anymore, police and militia rolled through and took most of them. Suppressor might have one.” Sam pulled a suppressor out of his apron, “See if it fits. Oh, if you're a chemist, in these drums you should find all the chemicals you need to make something ‘special’ for our guests on the beach.”

Smith appeared from the range smelling of gunpowder. He disassembled the M14 and began cleaning it. Overhill took the suppressor and screw it onto the end of his gun and mounted an ACOG sight and tweaked it a bit.
“That will have to do,” he mumbled
While the duo was inspecting and disassembling, Maria took the Lyran assault rifle and began loading rounds in magazines, the unique black finish of the 6.5 Yanitarian ammo reflecting nothing. Suddenly her radio squawked to life and Maria perked up, listening for a minute, she spoke up:

Overhill wondered over to the chemical and started going through them and them mixing certain ones to make explosives.

“The soldiers are looking for volunteers, sounds like they need to… Take a landing zone...of some kind... for reinforcements. Naval Infantry…. I know it's asking a lot, but you both seem to be military trained. Would you be willing to help out the soldiers? Right now it's just their six-man squad on recon. Not enough to hold an LZ.”

Overhill looks over at Smith
“Well, what do you think?”
Smith shrugs as he finishes cleaning and reassembling the gun
“Nothing to do right now,” Smith says with a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
“Sure why not. We got nothing better to do till out ride gets here.” Overhill says smiling as he continued making explosives. It was gonna be a good day after all.

City of Minamoguni
Kogyokist Militia Landing Zone and 1st QRM Battery
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

The cover of smoke was somewhat more effective than the Militia would have liked, but not as effective perhaps as the Kyogists may have liked. Some of the sensors would have issues with the smoke but synthetic aperture radar, filtered through the burgeoning SACHERI network, didn't quite care. Nor did the Kestrel care too much about localized EMP weapons- Indium Gallium Arsenide was standard, selected extremely high resistance to electromagnetic pulse attack. Circuitry is further protected by kraton insulation, to further improve electromagnetic resilience. This isn't to say some Militia members, untrained in the full suite of capabilities, didn't pull Kestrels in too close due to desire to use the full spectrum of their sensors. Fired upon, the small drones would be pulled back up- losses expected, but that didn't mean that the Militia wouldn't have some tough words for those who had decided to, against orders, operate them instead of just allowing them to do their thing.

Still, there was enough of a coverage to filter back a clear image to the artillery teams about what was going on in the port. Landing operations had been torn to shreds by the sea militia forces but they still continued, albeit limping. One LY10 had been destroyed, or they believed it had. Several were still in play however. The second QRM would come in with some armor, but that didn't mean that they lacked a desire to destroy them now. The order was sent.

The battery consisted of three Viper MLRS and six MIV-45s. Their fire mission was as follows: Two Vipers, firing 10 220mm anti-armor guided rockets each, divided between the surviving LY10s. The final Viper would send 20 120mm thermobaric guided rockets into the batch of light vehicles that were currently being offloaded. The MIV-45 would fire a sequence of shells targeting the largest mass of bodies moving from the port, each one sustaining twelve rounds a minute.

It would only be seconds after the order was given that the first rockets were fired, and the aggressors would soon learn to regret their heresy!

The Colonel looked around. All around her was the evidence of battle. Many wounded had filtered back to this point and indeed many more would be out there. The lieutenant had all the evidence bare in herself. Didn't mean she couldn't have some base décor about herself, however. The Colonel picked out the spent casing in her vest and tossed it.

“I see. You will continue to hold this position. The wounded will be evacuated-” she said, nodding to her aide. The aide responded, and so began the evacuation, “and you will continue to try to gather your company. In a little bit the communications should be clear and you can try to do so more effectively. May War Bless,” the Colonel said. She then turned her comms on to the QRM channel.

“All Marshite Militia. Advance and engage in all sectors. Your primary mission is to engage the Tenshu heathens. Press and kill. Survivors-” she started to say as the Federal Army representatives arrived, “-are requested, but if you can't, then War Bless,” she said with a smile. Then she nodded when the Federals asked, and she did so with that same smile. She once worked in the Federal Army. She just wanted them to move quicker next time. They were missing good and honest War here!

1st QRM Task Force
Moguni Island

Sergeant Major Daiki looked around and saw the state the militias were in. This checkpoint had been selected as a drop zone because it hadn't fallen yet, but it seemed that it was less due to strength, and more desperation that kept them here. They were doing their best, but so far that was only doing so much.

“Militia Colonel La'Eltactoni, Federal Assets are on route, but I need a SITREP.”

The Sergeant Major listened to the Colonel's review before motioning to one of his soldiers to pass on the info up the chain.

“Sounds like we have our work cut out for us. Listen, I'm going to be up front, these bastards sent saboteurs ahead of their attack to ambush our reinforcements. Not enough to stop us, but it's slowing down the armor. We have air superiority at least, attack helicopters on call despite enemy MANPADS. Most of the attacker's vehicle force has been taken out out, but that leaves plenty of infantry hiding. What we need, is a Forward Operating Base to bring in helicopter troop transports. Command knows there's a plaza a few blocks away and they want it secured. We're hoping the militia can provide some assistance on that.”

The Docks

The Colonel watched as the rockets rained down, tearing apart his few remaining vehicles. In the distance ships burned, their fires lighting up the ocean in the darkness. One rocket crashed closer than he would have liked, prompting him to follow his staff into the basement refuge of their temporary headquarters. Behind him their tanks and the last few vehicles available burned under the attack.

“Colonel, glad you could join us." Despite the dirty combat uniforms of his senior officers, they went straight into details, "We have pushed passed Main Street, but not much farther. The Shugenja and Oni are well armed, but every time we take a building it is a battle. It seems the Oni knew we would eventually come for them. As of now, their militias have been bringing in reinforcements, while the government fools have been spotted taking out our armor with air strikes.”

“Colonel, we have already lost half our troops, and we've gotten no response from any of our beached ships. We won't last longer than another hour or two!”

The colonel listened intently to his briefings. Yes, he lost his ships early, but he knew they died in service of the cause. They would fight and die to the last man. This was a mission to die in service of Teshnu. He would not entertain panic in his leadership. Ignoring the concern in the officer's voice, he moved on to more important matters:

“How many Yonkai have we burned so far?”

“A few hundred, but by this point most have fled to their Shugenja and Yonkai militias.”

“Then we hold our positions, set up ambushes. We have purged what we can. Let us be on the defensive and kill as many oni and corrupted souls as we can. May Tenshu bless those who can be saved, and punish those who refuse his forgiveness.”

Plaza

It was clear to the followers of Tenshu that the enemy would need places to bring in reinforcements, and while the land vehicles could be held up by saboteurs, the aircraft had no such limiting factor. What AA the Followers brought with them had to be mobile and hidden, as high altitude aircraft from the government had been dropping precision anti tank weapons on any vehicle that could be seen by recon planes, drones or ground spotters. As such, they took to hiding in buildings, setting up kill zones and planning for their defense. In this plaza, anti tank rockets aimed out of windows, and soldiers prayed from their sniper nests and hidden ambush points. None feared death, knowing full well it would be on them soon. Instead they welcomed it, for their passing would bring the beginning of a great war to liberate Aqua Anu from the decadence of the Yonkai and the troubles of diversity. They would die for something greater, for Tenshu wills it.

The Federal Army soldiers rode with their volunteer force in the beds of a few Police pickup trucks towards their target destination. National Police, local constables, Registered Private Militia, civilians, and even a pair of foreigners were loaded up and ready for combat, what grenades were available were passed out among who knew how to use them. They would not be pulling up straight to the Plaza, but instead a few blocks away and walking the rest of the way. This was going to be a building to building, room to room, fight to clear the Plaza from Followers of Tenshu who knew the arrival of Federal Army troops would be the end of their terror.

In the back of one National Police pickup, Corporal Nakamura Maria checked her body armor and grenades. A shorter woman with black hair and small frame, she was half Anuien and half Mokan and, and human, unlike many of the other volunteers with them of Neko varieties. On her lap rested a Lyran HILAR rifle, the standard issue weapon the Federal Army and Naval Forces. Next to her sat a civilian, Sato Sam, a Marshite of undetermined gender with raven black hair and dusty coat covering up what was possibly an illegally possessed Dauntless ballistic vest. A Stormhammer 12.7mm Lyran CaseLess submachine gun rested between the Marshite’s legs, with a widowmaker grenade launcher on the side. Being the owner of a weapon store in the PUF had its perks.

Across the truck, the two foreigners who had a bit of ‘combat experience’ under their belts rode with them...

Overhill and Smith climbed into the trunk and settled in both looking extremely comfortable in there armor and handling there chosen weapons. Both of them seem surprisingly at ease and relaxed for two men about to drive into a war zone.
“All I wanted was a vacation” Overhill mumbles
Smith grunts
“Got one” he says with slight up turning at the corners of his mouth one might call a smile.

“I’m sure this isn’t your first Hurricane,” Maria spoke to the two foreigners, “but, thanks for risking yourselves on this one.” She looked off in the distance as she finished, getting mentally ready for the battle to come.

“Ehh I was getting bored snorting cocaine off of stripers tits” Overhill says with a shrug of his shoulders

“Nothing beats the glory of battle,” Sam responded with a giggling smile, “Death to the Vile Lard, death to the Kogyokist traitors!”

“After the first dozen or so times it gets less fun. And then the glitter gets all over your face and in your nose and the sweaty stipper stink gets lodged in there.”

Maria decided to tune out the details of the how cocaine and hookers react with one another, it might be there way of preparing, but as someone who was usually called when the hookers and tourists got rowdy, it was the same familiar nonsense she already knew.

“I then I started mixing other stuff with it. The cocaine bomb was fun.” Overhill said musing
Smith shook his head in a negative way
“Got everywhere.” he said

Suddenly the trucks stopped. The Federal soldier at the front of the truck turned to face the other seven people in the truck with him. He began speaking quickly in the local language, before he remembered the two non locals who were with him. Changing over to Mokan Spanish, he repeated everything for the two:

“We're three blocks north of the plaza. Enemy has Manpads. Those are the targets. We're going to be going through these buildings, don't fire or use explosives until we're spotted. Everyone Vamos!”

Everyone poured out of the bed of the truck as a National Police Officer ran up to a door, pulling out his bolt cutters he snapped off the lock and swung it open for another NPO to move in on point. The two other truckloads of volunteers found other buildings to enter, spreading out the attacking force, in case one got spotted, the others could reinforce or maneuver around. Once inside the squad moved passed fryers and prep tables, some with fresh fish and vegetables still out, ready to be prepped. The kitchen staff clearly abandoning their job at the first sign of trouble. Sneaking into the restaurants lobby, they came to the first street. The National Police Officer looked both ways before making a run for the store across the street. The rest followed in short order. One block down without incident.

Various knickknacks and handmade toys populated the aisles of the cramped toy store they found themselves in, but a local officer wearing the blue and red uniform found the back room and led the squad towards the back door. Before she could open it, gunshots rang out from somewhere outside of the building towards the west. One of the squads had been spotted.

Firing her .45 caliber submachine gun into the lock, the local police officer kicked opened the door and raced to get behind something solid in the alley way. Metal trash cans might not stop 7.62 rounds, but it was better than nothing. The PUF soldier commanding the squad began barking orders as the sound of gunfire grew more intense. So far no bullets headed there way, they may have been safe for the moment, but that would not last long.

“Everyone head east down the alley, find me something solid to get us behind.”

A National Police officer kicked open a backdoor in the alley and raised his rifle. He managed to shout “National Police” in the local language before bullets hit him in the chest knocking him to the ground. Another officer pulled a grenade and threw it into the door before slamming the door shut. The loud explosion slamming the door back open and dust flying out told everyone all they needed to know about what just happened. More importantly, that they were now in the fight.

“This way”, the Officer shouted, before charging into the same room just grenaded.

Overhill and Smith followed the behind the men. Smith looked a little annoyed.
“Gimme a hi position” He mumbled. CQC and room clearing was for other dumb grunts and imbeciles , he was a sniper a master of longe range precision shooting, not some dumb door kicking grunt.

Once inside the broken boxes of various dried goods revealed they were probably in the back of a market. The remains of what might have once been an enemy combatant were scattered across the walls where a demolished shelf once held canned goods.Their contents currently spilling down on the floor. A volunteer kicked open a door that led to the store front and dove into an aisle. Gunshots could be heard from ahead. They were at the end of the second block and by the sound of it, the Tenshu Militia had come out to meet them.

“You two!” The PUF soldier motioned towards Overhill and Smith. “There was a ladder up to the third floor of one of these buildings back in the alley. Think you can find me a sniper nest and put that thing to use?” He said motioning to Smith’s scoped rifle. The shockwave of a grenade shaking the dust off more shelves around them as someone blew up inside the store’s lobby. “Go!”

Smith nods and slings his rifle then starts climbing quickly. Overhill takes cover.
“Welp. Someone does not like us.”
Overhill pulls one of the improvised explosives from his bag pulls a pin on it shakes it up then tosses it out the window. He scrunched down and very large boom echoes through the street.
“Heehee” Overhill laughed “take that.”

Smith climbed quickly until he reached the top of the ladder, reaching the short hallway of what looks like an apartment building, inside a set of stairs leads to the roof and or downstairs. The smell of blood and bodies in the heat hits them like a brick as they climb in the window. Smith climbed higher until he got to the roof. He jogged over to edge and unslung his rifle he extended the bipod and set it down then laid himself out too. He stacked some magazine next to his gun. He cozied up to the rifle and waited.

In the building across the street various window lit up with automatic weapons fire from the first and second floors. A few third floor windows lit up as well, as that was the highest most buildings in the area got. It was clear that crossing the street by any squad would be suicide, and the occasional grenade flew back and forth, knocking out store fronts and collapsing parts of buildings as the shooting continued.

On the roof Smith smiled and snuggled up to his rifle. This range was a joke honestly. He selected a target on the upper floor aimed and fired. The man jerked back a new hole in his head. Smith shifted to another lined up and fired. It was too easy.

Below Overhill sighed and popped up and laid down some fire. He fished another IED from his bag of boom and tossed it as hard as he could. It flew through the air and landed near the wall and detonated with massive explosion. Any remaining glass shattered and part of the wall collapsed.

On the roof Smith grunted
“Overhill at it again.” he mumbled as he shifted to a new target. He fired and his gun clicked empty. Smith ejected his spent mag and loaded a fresh one. Out of the 20 odd rounds fired he had missed once, twice at most. The upper floors were looking very clear now.

Just as the action started, shooting began to only come from their side of the street. The enemy had either been eliminated or retreated. The PUF soldier leading Overhill’s squad waited as the gunfire winded down. The nice thing about conscription was that most civilians and police had at least been taught how to behave in a fire fight, even if most forgot it in time. Crawling up he motioned for Overhill to follow him as they both got a decent view of the wrecked store fronts and apartments from across the street.

“Take the girl with you and check it out. Let me know if it’s clear to move up.” The soldier said motioning to Maria.

Overhill nods
“Move it!!” He barks and vaults over the wall with his bag of boom. Maria follows him closely.
On the roof Smith watches over the two of them as they race across the no mans land. Luckily, no one fires upon them, and as they cross into the rubble of a store, or office, or lobby, all they find is a few bodies, either blown up by Overhill’s charges, or shot by rifle fire. The few doors leading into the building are mostly blown off as well, either leading into the back rooms, or up stairs to the upper levels.

Both of them hit the wall. Overhill leans around the corner. He sees nothing. He swings around the corner and slowly advances through the building followed by Maria. The two rapidly sweep the building and only find a few more dead Tenshu followers and the lobby for the other side of the building, the one facing the large open Plaza. A pit burns just outside the building, obscuring Overhill’s and Maria’s view into the Plaza, but it also prevented anyone in the Plaza from seeing them. Gunshots continue around them as someone had found an enemy again, but that wasn’t the strangest thing to catch Overhill’s attention, the smell of human bodies and fur burning in an almost industrial sized pile of bodies.

“Looks clear to me. At least of enemies. Spotted an anomaly outside. Moving to investigate”
Overhill approaches the pit keeping low and out of sight. On the roof Smith continues to scan the area looking for any threat.
“Fuck burnt pork smell.” he mumbles and looks over into the pit. The limbs of various bodies, be they human or Neko become clear as he takes a closer look. Some on the bottom are blackened, while others resting on the top seem to still be bleeding. It seems that the goal of this attack wasn’t to take this city, but to eliminate it, one person at a time.
“Same shit...different place…”
Overhill sighs and turns away from the piles of burnt corpses
“Maria move we got more people to turn into corpses”
Maria just stares as the pile of bodies burning, flashbacks to the war in Red Star Union crossing her mind as the reality of what is in front of her slowly becomes clear. That was different, that was war, she wasn’t supposed to be seeing this here at home.
“I…. we need….” she trails off.
“We need to stop any more of this from happening. The dead can wait. The living need our help.” Overhill says “Now MOVE SOLDIER!” Overhill barks at her in an authoritative voice that leave no room for disobediences
“Yes sir” she mutters, getting back into things. Behind them the rest of the squad comes up, the PUF soldier commanding them, and Sam, the Marshite gun shop owner.

“Good” Overhill said “Fuck I need a map. And objective list. Who is in charge?”

“We lost a few in the last shootout, but the reinforcement Helicopters are a few minutes out.” The Army soldier says to Overhill. “Go back and get your buddy and find a safe way to the top of this building, it will overlook the Plaza and he can snipe any assholes who try to stop our helicopters. We think they have a few Manpads on the roofs. Take them out, and the gunships can clean house.”

Overhill turns and raises a hand and flashes a few signals. On the roof Smith sees them and collects his gear then departs. He soon joins the group.
“Smith find a new spot at that building.”
Smith nods and jogs off
“Does not say much does he?” Maria says
“Aww naw he is down right chatty today.” Overhill says

Climbing up another apartment complex Smith sees the signs of the initial struggle, drag marks from each apartment towards the windows, a few Tenshu followers, killed either at the beginning of the attack, or ones he put holes into directly. He slings his rifle and draws his side arm. He moves slowly and quietly now. Upstairs, he hears a steps and two men speaking back and forth in a local dialect. Neither sound panicked, but certainly on edge. Smith calmly continues to stalk forward doing his best to move silently through the debris. Smith peers around a corner and spots the two men. He swings around the corner his side arm held up and ready. Neither of the men notice him, instead one holds a Stinger Anti Air weapon, while the other sits with a rifle nearby. Both are looking out of a hole in the wall, clearly blown out earlier either accidentally or intentionally to mask the missile launcher. The one with the rifle turns towards Smith, almost by accident and sees the man in the doorway. He raises his rifle to shoot. Smith reacts smoothly. His pistol barks four times. Two shots per man. Both drop dead.
“Amateurs” he mumbles and makes his way through the building after snatching up the other man's rifle, another FAL, like most people around here carried.
“Shit rifle.” Smith mumbles as he checks it out before resuming his stalking through the building. Luckily for him, the rest of the building was empty, minus a few gruesome scenes of what happened to families who resisted the attack. Some had gotten a few lucky shots before going down themselves, others were not as lucky.
Smith ignored all of the carnage, same shit different day. He found a way to the roof eventually and began looking around for a good position overlooking the area.
Smith smiled now as he set up position on top of a low wall that rimmed the edge of the building and began surveying the area. It was hunting time.
From this angle, Smith could see two teams on other rooftops, both with three men and what appeared to be man portable anti aircraft missile systems. One aimed the missile system while the other two acted as spotters or snipers, occasionally taking shots into the city.

On the ground, he saw a few Tenshu followers in a window setting up a machine gun overlooking the plaza. Underneath him, the rifle fire exploded to life as militia engaged militia clearing out the buildings one at a time.

Smith smiled. A nice hidden perch, a battlefield full of unsuspecting target, a loaded rifle and plenty of ammo. It was a good day.
Smith observed the missile teams and machine gun team and made a list of targets.
Smith selected the nearest of the two missile teams. He targeted the sniper first. The carefully aimed took a deep breathe. Let half of it out and then took the slack out of the trigger. He waited until he was between heart beats then pulled the trigger. The gun went off and the other sniper suddenly had a new hole in his head. He did not even looked shocked, he was just as he was a moment before he had a lead lobotomy.
Smith shifted to the other missile team and removed there sniper. He was in the zone now.
He shifter his aim back to the other missile team which was reacting now, they had scrambled for cover and abandoned the anti aircraft missile one of them poked his head around a concrete structure of some kind on the roof.
Bang.
He dropped dead. The remaining member of that team stuck his rifle up over his cover and sprayed bullets.
Deep breath, half out. Bang.
He now had a hole is his arm. Removed from play.
Smith shifted to the other team now. They were trying to find him.
Bullets whizzed past his position, but Smith did not flinch. He got over that a long time ago.
He rapidly shifted aim downard and found the machine gun team. They were shooting at him or trying too at least.
Aim breathe easy pull. Bang. Machine gunner went down. One of other soldiers tried to jump on it.
Bang.
Not any more.
Another bullet whizzed past Smith this time he felt a sharp pain in his ear.
Smith ducked down and dragged his rifle with him. He laid it across his lap and but a hand up to the side of his head. It came back bloody.
He grunted fished around in his backpack for first aid gear. He found it fished it out then bandaged his wound.
He replaced the supplies and grabbed his rifle and ammo and scooted along the wall keeping his head down.
Smith got down and belly crawled away from the wall to a low enclosed structure he stepped behind just as another round whizzed past. Smith smiled to himself as he checked and reloaded his rifle.
He took a deep breathe and steady himself. He fished a mirror out of his bag then held it around the corner. He used it to survey the rooftops. The second missile team had grabbed the fallen snipers rifle and was using it to some good effect. Smith withdrew the mirror and placed it on the ground. Then he stood up and swung around the other corner and lined up his shot in a split second and fired. The other sniper jerked back and fell did.
Smith shifted target to the other man and fired.
He dropped too.
“Amateurs” Smith grunted as he collected his stuff then took up a new position on the edge of the roof and began sniping more of the militias.

Downstairs, Sam set up explosives along the walls, humming to itself while wiring up the alternative entrance into the hotel next door. Within a minute, Sam told everyone to step back, and blasted the wall apart, the three squads pushed from building to building, looking for Tenshu militia, but more importantly, any anti aircraft or anti tank weapons that could keep the army out.

Overhill followed Sam through the breach and stuck by their side as they moved from building to building clearing out the militia. Overhill was rapidly running through his goodies. It didn't take long to find most of the buildings were empty, minus one pair of Tenshu militia fighters who were unlucky enough to run into Overhill.

Wit the two anti aircraft crews eliminated, the soldier in charge threw a red smoke grenade. Signaling friendly forces had the plaza. Within a minute, large transport helicopters from the Naval Infantry were hovering over one of the remaining buildings while Infantry repelled down, clearing the building floor by floor but finding nothing but the same horrors found by the militias. Within minutes more helicopters were flying in, unloaded troops and supplies for the city. One officer found the rag tag militia force put together that captured the plaza, and offered his thanks, and to haul wounded out of the city. The Federal military would be taking up the fight from here, and soon it the city would be safe again.

MNN: SPECIAL REPORT!!!
News so short your can't help but read the full story...

TOP STORY:

Local Militia in Aqua Anu goes rouge, killing hundreds in massacre

Mac Anu
Queendom of Aqua Anu
People's Unified Federation

Yesterday evening, rough members of the Followers of Tenshu, a Registered Private Militia in Aqua Anu, launched an amphibious attack against Moguni Island, home to six million people, two million of which are of the Neko species. While death tolls on Moguni Island are still being determined, Federal authorities believe that the number of civilians killed to be in the hundreds. At least one village is believed to have been wiped out, with only a few survivors found who took shelter in a Marshite Shrine bunker. Parts of city of Minamoguni, including the docks and tourist district, are believed to have been destroyed before the Federal Army and local Militia forces could repel the attack. Early efforts to stop the attack were made by Neko and Marshite Militias, who managed to hold key parts of the city to ensure a rapid response by the Federal military.

Within an hour of the attack, Federal authorities issued a temporary order to seize all military assets from the Followers of Tenshu Militia on the Island Chain of Nippon. While many surrendered their arms peacefully to Federal Forces, reports of armed conflict between the Followers of Tenshu and Federal Forces on the Island Chain of Nipon, continued into the morning. With some reports as high as 26 of the 44 armories seized in the night actively resisting. It is believed that many leading commanders from the Followers of Tenshu Militia have been taken into Federal custody.

In addition, there are numerous reports of conflicts between Marshite militias and what they claim were Followers of Tenshu Militia sleeper cells. Such events are being investigated by Federal authorities.

As of this morning, the Army Reserve and the Reserve Guard units of the Nipon Island chain, and other nearby island chains, are being called into Active Service. In addition, Federal army units from Wellovia and Mokastana are being deployed to the Nipon Island Chain and surrounding islands. The Nipon Island chain home to nearly 32 million people, with the vast majority claiming to be Kogyokist Christians. The Followers of Tenshu Militia, claims to be a Kogyokist militia, and it is the largest Registered Private Militia on the Island chain, making the concerns for a long term peaceful solution very real and difficult.

Federal Refugee Camp
20 Kilometers outside of the City of Minamoguni
Moguni Island
Aqua Anu, People's Unified Federation

Although the camp was only a few tents and buildings claimed by the Federal Army, the military presence was everywhere. Helicopters were flying in every few minutes to unload more food, water and blankets for the ever increasing number of refugees that made it to the camp. Helicopters and convoys unloading more and more survivors for processing. The army stationed guards around the perimeter fence in case of saboteurs or other enemy agents, like the ones who ambushed the army response forces on the way to Minamoguni. However, this was probably one of the safest places on the island at the moment.

Some refugees would be cleared for work, either helping setting up tents and campsites for their fellow evacuees, or more important work such as medical screening, and first aid work if they were skilled in such arts. However, first they needed to be processed. Most were civilians of the Federation, and could speak the local language and were mostly screened for possible saboteurs. The few foreigners present were given an even more detailed interrogation before being allowed to safely integrate with the refugee camp. In a small office the commandeered building, Major Jesse “Overkill” Overhill and Chief Petty Officer Aaron “Longshot” Smith both wait their turn for processing. Despite the long lines and ever growing population, both find themselves not waiting long before two grey suited individuals walk in, wearing olive green flak vests and helmets over their civilian suits.

“Greetings, I am Special Agent in Chief Alice Dougal, and this is my partner, Special Agent Leon Valero, we are from the Department of Investigations National. It is my understanding you both speak English and Spanish, but not the local Awkoowan, is that correct?”

“Yes we are Merican” Jesse says. They gave up most of their gear it being borrowed after all but both of them had retained there side arms. They were not going to be completely disarmed.
“And yes we both speak english and spanish fluently as well as a number of other languages.”
Smith just grunted

“Very good, now to be clear, you are not under arrest. However, we do need to determine your identities and verify them with the Timocratic Consulate in Mac Anu, since you are Merican. If you do not wish to cooperate and instead be sent to the Consulate directy, we would ask to see your passports to verify citizenship, but you will have to wait for a military escort to the main islands. Are you alright with talking with us for a few minutes?” Alice asked, sitting down while her silent partner stood by the door watching the two.

Overhill glances at Smith who just shrugs at him.
“Yeah we can talk for a bit.”

“Sounds great, now, let’s get the boring stuff out of the way.” She pulls out an audio recorder and presses record, “Can you state your names and purpose of visiting Aqua Anu for the record?”

“Jesse Overhill vacation”
Smith grunts
“That means Aaron Smith vacation”

“Can he speak? I just need it from him. Also, do you gentlemen have your IDs with you, or were they lost in the escape from the city?”

“He does not say much outside of combat. Not a big talker honestly.”
Smith grunts in agreement.
“Also yeah we got ID it is in our bags. Outside.”

Alice looked at Smith, and back to Jesse, clearly annoyed with the act, but choosing to move on instead: “I’ll have an agent retrieve your IDs then. Just need to verify your identity with your Embassy and, of course, let them know you are alive and safe. Now, can you give me a quick explanation of what you two experienced when the attack happened? Where you were, how you got here, any details that might help us figure out if there are more threats out there.”

“We were in a hotel when the area exploded. We hightailed it out of there saved some kids and got asked to help so we helped.”

“Could you clarify on what you mean by saved some kids? And What kind of help did you provide?” Alice’s look turned to one clearly interested in the answer to the questions.

“I provide explosives and general tactical help. Smith provided sniper support. Some of those douches were executing kids in the street. We could not just sit by and let it happen.”

“We’ve been getting a lot of reports of that kind of things happening. If I may, you seem rather calm for someone who just got out of a combat zone, do you and Mr. Smith have prior military experience?”

“Yes” Jesse said and Smith grunted in agreement.

“Combat experience?”

“Yes both of us have...large amounts of combat experience.”

“Special Forces?”

“Very well, it does sound like, based on these reports from the National Police and Federal Army, that you two did outstanding work in helping protect Federal Citizens and aiding the Army in clearing out a target zone. However, will still need to hold you here until your ID clears with the Timocratic Consulate and the island lockdown is lifted. That said, is there any criminal records or warrants out for either of you that might come back from the Timocratic Government? We would rather know now, than wait for the report.”

“Uhhhh …not that I am aware of. What about you Smith?”
Smith looks annoyed at Overhill
“None for him either.”

“Is that true Mr. Smith?”

“Yes” Smith grunts with a look saying ‘do I look dumb enough to get caught’?

“Very well. As things look right now, you two are not in any legal trouble with the Federation. You were smart enough to tag along with the first police officer you found and we haven’t heard of any incidents involving foreigners like yourselves causing issues. If anything you may even receive a token of gratitude from the Queendom or Federation for your efforts here. I don’t have the specifics, but thank you gentlemen. We are going to assign you a tent and give you a place to stay until your clear to leave. Did you all have any questions for us?”

“No Just wondering if those kids are alright. And honestly anyone decent would have helped we just did the decent thing.”

“It’s a big camp out there, with new people coming in every hour, maybe they are among the population. Other than that we will be returning your stuff, minus any Federal or Police issued equipment you may have borrowed. We ask you keep your weapons and ammo in the armory for safekeeping, as there may be additional agents in the camp, and we don’t want to risk further bloodshed.”

“What about trophies?” Overhill asked with an innocent look.

“Whatever you have, I don’t want to know about it. Unless it can be used to identify some of the people who attacked us. If it can, we may take some for research. Do you have anything like that?”

“Nope.”

Alice didn't believe him, and decided to press further. She turned off the audio recorder: “No dog tags, fingers, ears, scalps, or other DNA or documents? Because to be honest, I don't care what you take as a trophy. I just want to be able to prove who attacked us. Identities give us leads. If we don't need whatever it is you can keep the damn thing, I have bigger concerns than a few Gringos taking back bullet casings.”

“Nope none of that. I swear.” Jesse said looking as innocent as a new babe...and fooling no one.

Alice muttered, “Backarchodu Mericana”, under her breath before continuing, “If you're done helping, then that's fine. We'll leave you be,” before turning back on the recorder. “Very well, just know any undeclared biological matter or suspicious items may be seized by Customs when leaving the nation. I wish you gentlemen the best.”

With that Alice collected her notes and left.
