Actually, who would want to trust either one of them?

CNN are way more trustworthy than Fox.

The whole 'mainstream media are evil' thing is rather overblown, imho. They're certainly not worse than the so-called 'alternate' news sources.

I'd like to dispute that. Screaming of panel members is worse than screeching in written form.

Lets even go further and use language the Donald clearly will understand. Call them Fucks News as they clearly have fucked themselves hard.
This is an example of the old adage even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile. With that acorn symbolizing truth in Fucks News case. :lol2:

However, CNN ain't propaganda like Fox is.

CNN let their disdain for Trump colour their view, there's no doubt on that, but for the most part one can believe what they report. For the most part.

Fox News have been shilling for the Right since Bush was in office.

The difference is this: CNN I always try to fact-check with another source, especially with anything breaking. They're too quick to post without verifying, not very rigorous, and they want sensational headlines to get ratings.

Fox News isn't even worth turning on in the first place.

At one time back when I was in my mid thirties there wasn't a Fucks News and we weren't in such a damn divided mess as a nation.
In the intervening thirty years we have descended into this dark place we find ourselves now and I place most of the blame squarely on Roger Ailes, originally a Nixon sycophant.

Oddly it's made me more aware of the biased effects of the media, especially how headlines are written that then dictate the tone of the article. I generally read The Guardian, I know it's a quinoa-munching liberal rag.. but I like the writing style and their focus on breaking big stories.

However I'm more bothered than before about headline bias.. part because it doesn't help to create examples where people can point to it and be all 'see the left is just as biased'..

A book has come out of collected essays..

Power provides extremely useful history on Russian efforts to interfere with US elections, which go back at least to 1984, when the KGB secretly campaigned against Ronald Reagan’s re-election. Just as they did during the 2016 election, the Russians spread all kinds of false stories, including the idea the CIA was plotting to give nuclear weapons to apartheid South Africa.

Then Power pinpoints why the Russians were so much less effective back then: “During the Cold War the vast majority of Americans received their news … via mediated platforms.” This meant that what they read or saw on television “had to get by professional gatekeepers”.

As far as the dissemination of news is concerned, that is the crucial difference between the pre and post-internet worlds: the gatekeepers have disappeared.

Add to that the fact that bots accounted for 3.8m tweets in the final weeks of the 2016 election and that 38m false stories were shared on Facebook in the last three months of the campaign, and you get some idea of the damage the internet has inflicted on American democracy.

Fox News routinely “amplified falsehoods” that discredited Hillary Clinton. All in all it’s no surprise, as Power points out, that “large numbers of Americans now view as opinion what were once seen as verifiable facts” – everything from global warming to the utility of vaccinating children.

I think the difference is here.. that both media, and there's little debate that FOX is a serious culprit, and non-media are deliberately amplifying direct falsehoods. While one can detect bias in tone it's hard to have to fact check simple false news.

The probability of someone secretly participating in homosexual acts is directly proportional to the frequency and loudness of their publicly professed disapproval and/or disgust for homosexuality.
If Donald Trump accuses an individual of malfeasance without evidence, it is almost a certainty either he or someone associated with him has in fact committed that very same malfeasance to a greater degree.

Trump fought against fitting of sprinklers in apartment where man died

So it seems the reason there's no absolute requirement for sprinkler systems in the NYC building code is because Trump said it would be expensive to refit the tower with them and so pushed against it.
