Perhaps. But Jim has been linked to a video of him being there and is still denying it.

I wonder on how many of the 2nd amendment sites you post that you'll share that correction?

I'm not convinced it would have the desired effect, but I agree that is its intention. After all, the PATRIOT act, testing on US citizens and other shit's all happened and nobody took up arms then.

Close the gun show loophole, three day waiting periods (for suicide prevention, people usually commit suicide on an impulse, and any delays in that help a lot in preventing them. It's quite interesting), a gun database on a state by state basis, etc. I forget what state it was, but I posted a link earlier in this thread about gun control in a New England state, where you have to register your guns with the police, have a gun license, get background checked, etc. That's pretty much what I want.

I'm not interested in bans on guns of any type, except those that are ridiculously unsafe to the user (see the more unsafe, unreliable Saturday Night Specials) or are excessively destructive (RPGs and bigger, essentially)

Registries are an absolute no go, the Hughes Amendment and various blue states have proven why it's a bad idea to follow those laws.

Opening with the gunshow loophole myth doesn't help your case. Doubling down (repeatedly) with waiting periods, licensing our rights and registering our guns destroys it.

More like it was to allow the states to establish militias and arm the populace against foreign invasion since standing armies were severely frowned upon in 18th and 19th century America. The “overthrow the government” line of thinking with the 2nd amendment starts to fall apart when another part of the constitution explicitly says that “levying war against the United States” is treason and therefore making overthrowing the government a crime.

Gun show loophole myth?

So unlicensed gun sellers can't sell at gunshows without running background checks? Or in other private sales?

That's not a loophole. That's one of those "compromises" that miraculously became a loophole. One of the main reasons we don't trust gun-grabbers.

When law professors are calling it a loophole, as they are quoted as doing in the link I provided, it's a loophole. No amount of mental gymnastics from random internet posters will convince me otherwise.

It's literally what the law was designed to do. It was a specifically laid out compromise to help pass the Brady Bill. You can't change the meaning of the word loophole because you don't like it.

Unfortunately for the “the 2nd amendment allows the overthrow of the government” crowd, those parts of the Federalist Papers weren’t included in the constitution and they instead got Article III, Section 3 making overthrowing the government treason.
