The Combat Robot concept is a very touchy one, i'm ok because they could be reduce the human casualties and maybe the mere sight of one can avoid engagement because they are KILLER ROBOTS.

However there's many, many variables, like the missions, the nature of the conflict, their construction, their role in tactical or strategic duty, and so on.

And don't start with the A.Is please.

If Korea isn't doing it (and KAIST claims it isn't), China certainly will.

To not develop these technologies is to merely ensure extinction or subjugation at the hands of those who will. To allow this willfull abstention and self-weakening in the name of "morals, ethics" or something equally delusional is nothing more than irrational and suicidal virtue-signalling that is equal parts baffling and contemptible.

I'd be more respectful of the movement if there was clear traction of it in the illiberal big countries like China and Russia, but there is none whatsoever. Why should they listen to these naive fools?

KAIST btw is a publicly-funded, i.e. state-sanctioned/owned institution, which according to the rankings is anywhere from the top-300 to top 100 academic institutions, and certainly one of the highest in Asia. If they were developing autonomous weapons, I highly doubt the boycotts of these whiney Western scholars will noticeably slow them down.

As for Google and their hangups, then maybe they shouldn't have engaged in Project Maven in the first place. Guess that government money was too good to pass up tho...

As stated before, the Matrix dumbed down the reason the machines kept humans alive and even made the effort to breed them on an industrial scale: more processing power for the massive neural network created by the machines after they won the war against the human aggressors.
