Both, actually. My apologies.

Yeah, but Higher Japan has someone, who wants to speak with Coriolanus.
And yes, so far, both Miuil and Rhiannon are on the way to the Admiralty, but they will arrive rather soon.Novaya Equestria wrote:Sorry for not posting in the RP, volks.
It's alright, NE. Aynthing you might need help with?

Well, if we do it, we will do it via ship. Sufficient masses of the stuff can not be transported otherwise, as we want to 'mine' a whole lot of territory, don't we?
Also, we need to somehow make it so, that the Abyssals themselves don't get grossed out, so I would suggest something akin to naval mines, with stench bombs as the 'warhead'. Of course, these mines could also be laid by aircraft, but that would be expensive and time-consuming, so a minelayer (minelaying vessel) would be ideal.
As for the security measures, they sound like they could potentially work.

So, proximity fusing for the mines, I'm guessing? And what about coastal areas? I was thinking coating any undefended landing areas as thoroughly as possible, though mines would make sense as a more "permanent" (for lack of a better term) area denial solution.
As to not getting grossed out, that's what the hazmat suits and keeping the prep area *well* away from any of the installations are for.

Magnet fuzes, I thought, actually.
A defensive mine field might be more profitable. The Abyssals know, by experience from countless battles before, that the kanmusu don't do landing operations often, if at all, preferring to shoot things to kingdom come from far away, so undefended beaches won't entice them much. But blocking approaches to their bases with minefields, which only they know the ways through could pay off, especially now, that the acoustic mines the Abyssals likes to use before had been cleared around the Shipwreck Islands.

I'm thinking more like a 3-1 or 1-1 mag to proximity (or mags with proximity secondaries?) to prevent degaussing coils from rendering the minefield useless, and maybe a 1-10 to 3-10 lethal to area denial mixture, too, in case any Kanmusu get the idea that the smell is the *only* thing to watch out for in the minefields. Best part is, depending on what way the wind's blowing, it could double as an added layer of early warning systems.

The explosive mines mixed in sound like an interesting idea. However, magnetic fuzes are Proximity Fuzes, or rather one kind of proximity fuzes. Mixing two kinds of fuzes in one mine would be expensive, but both doable and quite practical, I think. Maybe we stick with magnetic fuzes as the main detonator and use contact fuzes to ward off minesweepers?

I was thinking a mix of different proximities amongst the mines, actually, but that's a good idea, too. Maybe a 1:1:1 magnetic, acoustic, and either radar or pressure, all three types with contact secondaries.
After taking measurements with a measuring tape and running the numbers, it also wouldn't be out of the question range-wise to commence carpet bombing operations on the Shipwrecks to clear the mines for reoccupation. Our nearest airfield is around 700km from Chill's former location, *well* within range of at least two period long-range bombers. It's really just a question of if the Abyssals have the resources to attempt a reoccupation at this time, or, failing that, land-based area denial. They'd also need Hornissennest's airstrike to go ahead, or they'd be dealing with a war of bombing attrition that wouldn't really benefit either side.

Hm... sounds like an interesting plan. But who should deploy the mines? A few transports?
The Abyssals do not have the ressources to reoccupy Chill's former dwelling ground, but both Hellboat and the Anchorage Water Demon are still present and accounted for, as is the small patrolling group of Rubia and Lamia's submarines, the former of which held themselves back out of fear of enemy air power and the latter of which spent all of their ammunition.
So, while Chill's demise will make the day a lot easier for the kanmusu, the Abyssals still control those islands... although they still lack the air power to prove it.
While the Abyssals do have land-based bombers, even with appropriate range, those lack the carrying capacity necessary to carry out strategic bombing operations, though.

Nope, the Wiki only mentions mines when it comes to ships sunk by them. But, historically, freighters and passenger ships were often repurposed as minelayers and destroyers, torpedo boats, even cruisers carried out mining operations, so it wouldn't be hard to imagine the Abyssals doing something similar.
