Meanwhile, in news that will probably shock no-one, it seems that the government's attempts to privatise the Probation Service aren't going to plan, with the private Community Rehabilitation Companies often allowing the supposedly low-risk offenders referred to them by the government commit violent offences due to lack of sufficient funding, and the rate of recall and recidivism has spiked sharply.

Honestly this kind of seems par for the course with this government, given its apparent attitude of privatising at a massive loss then having to shore it all up again anyway.

In fairness, apparently it was done under a blind tender, ie, they weren't allowed to know who was making the bids, whether UK or EU firm.

So it's really just dumb luck colliding with the absolutely ludicrous attempt to make passport colors (which...they could always have changed even in the EU) an issue of national honor and producing hilarious results.
