Nobody has ever said "everytime there's a new massacre we lose rights!"

What we've repeatedly said is every time something like this happens people overreact, panic, try to force gun control down our throats, and the few times we compromised we got burned. So, since none of the proposed gun control measures have worked in any way shape or form, we're done compromising.

I've heard people on these forums make claims about 'climbing up piles of corpses to steal more of our rights', so they do say that.

Also it doesn't look like you got burned, what with that map's shifting. It looks like the compromises did nothing to harm your rights at all.

Only because we had to fight back.

Your real motive is only to ensure that you can acquire any firearm you want regardless of the potential danger or risks it poses to the rest of the public. I get that. I'm still not going to consent to less gun control, especially if the people who would be getting those now legal weapons don't inspire the highest of confidence that they'll only be using it responsibly.

Puts it in a different light to me. Looks like the ones panicking over nothing are the pro-gun crowd, if that map is correct. Hell, give it another ten years and that whole map may be green.

Hmm...

I thought criminals didn't care about bans? Why would they shift to legal weapons?

shrug

Handguns have always made up the vast majority of gun crime. My understanding is that the change is largely due to the shift in the nature of crime. The AWB occurred over the majority of the 90s crime wave, and then into the early 2000s. Before the AWB was the crack wars of the 80s, which was largely organized gangs warring over territory. The 90s was the coke wars of Miami and NYC, and it began the switch from the massive organized criminal syndicates of the earlier years into the smaller more fragmented gangs of today.

The nature of crime changed, and the weapons changed with it.

That map didn't just happen just because. Each one of those states was a different fight, and some of them required lots of donations and manhours to lobby or push things to the Supreme Court and whatnot. We've got a ways to go yet but thankfully we're more numerous and dedicated than our opponents so things continue to look good.

So it seems you are indeed winning like the above poster said. Let's hope you figure out a way to curb the massacres another way. In the end that's all I actually care about. No guns or more guns it's all the same if people aren't being shot to shit while going about their daily lives.

We'll just have to see how things turn out. If I had my way we'd set up an entirely new organization dedicated to machine gun ownership and education and such things and use the money we get from donations and membership dues to lobby for various things.

My ideas on this clearly are rational if most nations aren't like the US and have chosen one or more forms of strict gun control. The US is by far an outlier in terms of supply of guns and the culture that formed around it. If we're the exception rather than the rule, then it tells me that the US has chosen the wrong side of history on this. It is worse than using Imperial measurements over Metric.

It doesn't really matter what we propose on the topic, the Democrats won't vote for it. Just like back in 2013 when the GOP cooked up a good no nonsense universal background check bill and the Democrats refused to support it.

Except there is a lot of evidence that the gun crime in the United States isn't because of the guns but because of a number of other issues in the United States, such as poverty, income inequality, community policing, and the criminal justice system. But sure lets blame the guns, those are the only way the US is different from other countries.

Speaking of body armor. On my way to work this AM, had the radio on and the talking heads mentioned that there is a bill in the LA statehouse to allow kids to have bullet resistant backpacks and be able to wear them to school. This bill would remove the prohibition to students wearing armor to school. Everyone else could wear armor to a school but students couldn't. What moron came up with the idea to ban kids from wearing armor?

Each party had their own bill on the topic and refused to support the others. It was all sorts of god damn silly. The Democrats shoved a bunch of dumb shit into their bill and it was poorly written so the GOP didn't support it but the Republican bill apparently didn't go far enough or some shit.

I'm talking about the Manchin-Toomey amendment. The limited bill without all the crap. The Democrats voted for it and the Republicans against. But you're claiming that Democrats won't vote for sensible gun control.
