We really only remember him for Watergate, but truthfully, he had one of the most successful presidencies in American history. He helped begin the war against cancer with the signing of the National Cancer Act of 1971, he thawed American-Sino relations after two decades of bitter hostility, he signed the ABM treaty with the soviet Union which helped to somewhat deescalate Cold War tensions, helped further desegregation throughout southern schooling districts, and founded a number of environmentally positive efforts: the EPA, endangered species act, just to name a few.

Really, I think he would make a great president for life.

Despite his obvious and glaring flaws, I'm unironically quite fond of Nixon, particularly because of his environmental policies although he was also a competent president in other fields as Cristo points out above. I'd definitely pick him over either Trump or George W. "Is our childrens learning" Bush.

Nixon first, Dubya second, and I'd sooner shoot myself than the third.

Bush, at least, had some measure of ability to make connections and forge ties, even if the Iraq War erased most of it.
