Examples of the shit they pulled. The fact that they are now allowed to do this is unacceptable and intolerable. To not be hysterical feels like to be complacent.

ISP'S WEREN'T CLASSIFIED UNDER TITLE II UNTIL FEBRUARY OF 2015.

WE MANAGED.

You ARE aware of the lawsuit that struck down the 2010 rules because they weren't allowed under Title 1, right? That the rules that were ultimately enacted under Title 2 were enacted under Title 1 until the court said they literally aren't permissible under Title 1, yes?

This. The internet apocalypse will be upon us if the Courts do not overturn the Net Neutrality repeal and reclassification to Title I. If that happens the Courts will show themselves as traitors and enemies of the American people. This is indeed a black and white issues, net neutrality, you are ether with big business or you are with the consumers. Hopefully the Courts will listen to public opinion and stand on our side unless they wish to be our enemy.

Yes. The end of net neutrality means the end of the internet as we know it, meaning this:

The Flutterlands wrote: "Just $79.99/month for access to over 300 of the most popular websites! Don't see your favorites in the package? Add them for just $5.99/month each! Want streaming content? It will be cable tv 2.0

Oh, fuck me...

It's a not a substantive difference. The FCC has been trying to enforce some kind of neutrality principle since 2004, but the US was without what we would call net neutrality until 2015, when telecoms were classified under Title II and the FCC gained the authority to do what they've been trying to for the last decade and a half.

Have you ever considered that you're overreacting?

Losing NN is a bad thing, but it's not THAT bad. Most likely what we will see is anticompetitive business practices - cable companies throttling netflix or hulu and claiming it's all their fault, but we have a great TV package that works all the time.

That's not quite accurate. When the FCC had the rules under Title 1, the ISPs generally complied with them. Verizon challenged them in court, but it complied while challenging them, and the FCC took enforcement actions along those lines for those who were not compliant.

Now, ultimately all those enforcement actions were reversed (because of the ruling), but for a while we had pretty decent net neutrality rules that ISPs WERE complying with, even if Verizon was challenging their validity while complying.

Title 2 was then enacted to do basically what the Title 1 rules did before being struck down (a little further, but not much).

No. If we do not fear the worse, we become complacent and allow the slippery slope to take us to the worse.

I hope the courts rule against the FCC because this is a case where they are ether with the American People or against the American people and for corporate tyranny on the internet.

It may not happen immediately, but perhaps slowly when we have all but given up. It will get worse slowly till the American saps accept it as the new normal. This is why we need to get net neutrality back immediately within no more than the next three to four years.

Let me say this once, before any mods come in and ruin this

DROP IT!!!

No more arguing over whether this repeal is "the end of the internet" no more of this hysterics from Flutter and no more antagonizing one another over this.

Again, END THIS NOW, IT'S DERAILING THE THREAD THE MORE THIS GOES ON!

Unless you have something to report on this issue, and not antagonize Flutters or one another, delete your post now and forget it, this has to end.

Little bit, yeah. I'm not inclined to listen to someone who, by all appearances, I don't know and is a new addition to the site.

You popping in to scold us all for jacking the thread about the FCC and net neutrality, when that's what we're discussing, smacks of misplaced self-importance and a need to control the actions of others when they don't conform to your expectations. I don't know anyone on NS that appreciates your kind of interjections. I know I don't.

Perhaps you should take your own advice and stop derailing the thread by telling us to cease speculation on the potential consequences, or lack thereof, of the FCC's decision.

So Murphy's law doesn't apply to what could happen without net neutrality? I still think we must find a way to bring net neutrality back by force. Without it, ISPs basically get control of facts, knowledge and information on the internet. Imagine 1984, except it is the corporations controlling facts instead of the government, which the media kind of does already.
