Despite Massachusetts recent ban on bumpstocks they've only had 3 of them (and one trigger crank) turned in after they sent out a letter to all licensed gun owners in the state telling them to turn em over or be punished with a sentence anywhere from 18 months to life in prison.

With this and the massive non-compliance rates in New York, California and Connecticut it seems like ignoring the laws is the new norm.

Long guns? If you mean military rifles, those are not that common with police forces. It depends on the individual European country, also you tend to see more heavily armed military police at airports, ministries and such.

Well considering that the term ‘long gun’ refers to rifles and shotguns, long guns, and at one point in time or another pretty much every rifle was a military rifle I would say that’s exactly what they mean.

Wanted to respond to this earlier but forget to. It doesn't matter if he did, the ATF and co just want to present something to make it seem like they actually do things.

18USC921(a)(17)(B) quite explicitly says the only restrictions on AP ammo are for handgun AP ammo, the rounds in question were .308's for a rifle. Even a public defender who spent ten minutes looking these things up could run circles around the ATF.

The bit of law in question for anyone interested
The term “armor piercing ammunition” means—
(i) a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or
(ii) a full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25 percent of the total weight of the projectile.

Non compliance of inane, bullshit, feel good do nothing laws is the correct path and it also makes sense on why there is such wide spread non compliance, after all spending $200+ on a stock and willy nilly turning it in and not getting compensated for the cost is most likely one of the main reasons other than the gratifying middle finger to the man.

Was kinda hoping you'd have quoted Henry Thoreau...

I guess he just isn't famous anymore.

Even though he himself was quoted by both MLK, Hemmingway and Ghandi.

Granted, HT's essay goes to great lengths to explain that by no means does this give an excuse to wrong someone or ignore social contracts simply whenever it suits you as "evil". As he was by no means an anarchist.

And just about anyone who mentions someone marching merely to the beat of a different drum.

I already have a day, it's called "today".

Simplest fix would be to abolish the law and legalize booze abortions weed bump-stocks.

Would make their current non-compliance into compliance, and current compliers would be unaffected.
