The first thing I'd point out is that I don't seem him praising China anywhere in there, so I'm not really sure where that charge is made from; I will say I think he overstates Chinese power by calling them a Superpower, but he does note such is viewed from the eyes of the Chinese themselves, so it's a reasonable claim to make. The underlying theme of the article, meanwhile, is that of people being instinctively drawn to tribal ties over that of idealism. I find such an idea to be sound, and I think most people would too if they considered such objectively.

I mean, if I were a Congress person I would draw a big red line around the Wall, and absolutely not vote for it. If they want to spend 25 billion dollars on increasing border security through infrastructure, increased personnel, security measures, equipment, etc., that's one thing. If they want to to spend 25 billion dollars to erect a thousands-mile long useless pile of concrete and steel that will rot away within a decade, and be damn useless almost from the start then I would tell them to screw off. The Wall is just the biggest waste of resources imaginable, utilizing funds that could actually be useful elsewhere. Any Democrat worth their salt would draw a giant line around the wall, and instead demand intelligent border security measures.

There are far, far better ways to spend a literal fortune.
