I wonder if Trump cultists would unironically embrace communism if they were told that liberals, Democrats and the Clintons are "TRIGGERED" by it.

Was the "Gang of Six" deal rejected by Trump politically viable, or was he right to reject it?

If enough of the mainstream news media announced that with a straight face he would.
Crimes committed by Muslims will be proof of a pan-Islamic plot and Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand, crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of mentally ill lone wolves who do not represent their professed belief system at all.

I think the deal would at least have passed the Senate and it was the best plan around. Trump rejected it without offering any alternative.

I'm sure it's nice to be able to dismiss race-based rhetoric as an "inability to speak coherently". The problem is that this has become an art form. Trump says something classically racist and then insists he isn't racist the next day.

Mexican is a nationality, probably an ethnicity... yeah, maybe not a race in the strictest of terms, but functionally speaking, it might as well be. And we know by now that Trump disdains pretty much all Latino people, not just Mexicans.

Ask literally any Mexican how they identify and they will largely tell you "Hispanic" unless they are explicitly indigenous. I see you're backtracking quite quickly. Trying to find a nice spot for those goal posts?

I mean, heck, try actually paying attention to the words he chooses to use to describe different groups. Pay attention to how he described Puerto Ricans dissatisfied with his response to the hurricane (describing Latinos as "lazy and ungrateful" is pretty much a racist stereotype), or how he talked about Haitians and Nigerians (describing an entire nation of people as suffering from AIDS and another as living entirely in Huts, also pretty stereotypical descriptions).

Nothing short of a Scooby Doo confession satisfies the Trump Cult. Democratic officials who gets called to a meeting with Trump should start carrying recorders.

I think the deal would at least have passed the Senate and it was the best plan around. Trump rejected it without offering any alternative.

I think he's articulated his position (or at least his set of demands) pretty clearly. The problem is that he wants a "winner takes all" solution which is only really palatable to his base.

He wants his sea-to-sea wall (or at least most of it) and a "merit" based immigration system (no chain migration, no lottery system). Failing that, he wants to cause a crisis that he can blame on the Democrats.

Which will backfire spectacularly, seeing as failures in an administration invariably fall upon the incumbent during election time, regardless of fault.

1. All Latinos? That requires proof, y'know.
2. Yep. Mistakes tend to be unusual.
3. It is relevant, as it was never established that Trump was guilty.
4. Trump's speech pattern is abnormally basic. Like, to an impossible degree for any man in such a high position. It's no wonder that his words carry a million interpretations.

Yeah, ignoring the "clean DACA" slip up, of course. He generally tends to not have a firm grasp on his positions and changes them in the moment to please whoever he is talking to. As of now, I think his demands are clear though.

I've read some right-wing opinion pieces on the deal, they basically considered it a non-starter for the following reasons:
1) It "only" provides for about 10% of his wall.
2) It does not end chain migration (the proposed rule changes only cut it by about 3 percent)
3) It does end the lottery system, but at the same time gives amnesty for DACA recipients (700,000 people) and DREAMers (possible several million). Amnesty for DREAMers is not on the table from their point of view.

A very specific and peculiar mistake.

Functionally irrelevant.

How does him being incoherent preclude him from being racist? I have my own issues when speaking in public, but I never "accidentally racism" because I have difficulty stringing thoughts together.

1. All Latinos? That requires proof, y'know.

Mexicans, Haitians, Puerto Ricans, Salvadorans... that's four Latin American nations whose people he has explicitly disparaged.

Northern Davincia wrote:2. Yep. Mistakes tend to be unusual.

Contextualized, it takes some industrial-quality denial to avoid seeing the racist undertones... if you can call them undertones.

Northern Davincia wrote:3. It is relevant, as it was never established that Trump was guilty.

Context matters.

Also, there was no admission or wrongdoing... but Trump did settle the case.
The Trumps and their company entered into a consent decree settling the litigation in 1975. The agreement contained no admission of wrongdoing, but required the Trump firm to institute a series of safeguards to make sure apartments were rented without regard to race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

Hard not to take the conclusion of that case as a very "generous" way of saying "it's likely enough that I was racist that I now have to enforce specific safeguards to prevent it from happening again".

Northern Davincia wrote:4. Trump's speech pattern is abnormally basic. Like, to an impossible degree for any man in such a high position. It's no wonder that his words carry a million interpretations.

Which still doesn't preclude his racist comments from being racist. Not being an eloquent racist doesn't make you any less racist. Not being a Nazi ideologue doesn't preclude you from being racist. And when your words carry some serious, on-the-nose racist stereotypes and dog-whistles, you don't get to play the "I'm too dumb to be racist".

Also, consider all of the moments described as a whole, not just as isolated incidents. There's a visible pattern of behavior there.

Honestly? There's little doubt in my mind that the fartbag doesn't even know what his position is beyond "muh wall!", because he's too stupid and ignorant to come up with any sort of policy.

Amnesty for DREAMers is not on the table from their point of view.

tfw you make a deal but it's not awful enough for the president ;_;
