BROKEN DREAM RP

Welcome to the Broken Dream RP. This is an RP modeled after the Disunited States or Fractured America RPs. You will form your nation from the fractured states/territories (and territories) of the US and Canada. The RP starts in the year 2020 three years after a fictional event occurs causing the fracturing first of the US following quickly by the break up of Canada. Military equipment will be based on what is in a state/province as of 2017 IRL except in the cases of naval vessels. They will be distributed based on a countries ability to maintain and operate. Keep in mind things such as naval ports could have been built in the three years allowing some new nations, say Texas, the ability to have larger ships like aircraft carriers or submarines because they also have the ability to maintain them financially and fuel wise. Also overseas units will return to the states they were based on with the exception of Navy and Coast Guard which will be spread out. For GDP use most recent data you can find.

Short Timeline

January 2017: As political tensions rise the United States decides it can no longer stay together after President Weston tries to suspend the inauguration of President-elect Reed. The split is mostly peaceful with states quickly coming together to form their own nations.

February 2017: In Canada the instability of the US’s breakup starts to create cracks in Canada. Quebec nationalism soars and soon they declare independence resulting in the other provinces quickly following especially those that oppose the ruling Liberal Party.

Later 2017: A large conference is held in New York City in which all of the nations agree to recognize each other. Later the UN recognizes this deal recognizes most of the states. The more powerful states are added as permanent Security Council members to fill the US’s influence void. Those are California, New York (or whatever nation is created containing New York) and Texas. Likewise Texas, California, New York, Quebec, and Ontario are given seats at the G7 (now G10) and G20 (now G23). In order to appease other powers Germany, India, and Japan were also made permanent UNSC members.

2018: Instability starts to end as the governments are seen as legitimate.

2019: After a year of lobbying it is announced all former US and Canadian States/Provinces will be allowed NATO membership regardless of what ocean they are near.

President Kiser sat at his desk reading over a message that was to be sent to the government of Arkansas in regards to them joining the Republic. Liking what he read he hit send. Next was a message to all NATO members in North America. Reading over it Kiser nodded and hit send. Now came the message directed solely at California. Kiser made a quick change before hitting send on that message.

Skies near Mexican border

The three Texan A-15's (Textron Scorpios) flew near the border watching for both illegal immigrants and drug smugglers and for Mexican military. Ever since the fall of the US Mexico has made no secret of its desire to regain lost territory. They had grown even more bold as the years went on and now things were tense between them and the two new nations that shared a border with them.

President Tomarchio walked up to the podium and waved to the crowds of Cheyenne, its been a many good years since the country formed together once the United States fell apart and from the ashes rose the Allied States. A copy that wished to distance itself from the United States and it even rewrote its own history with the fall of the American Republic as one of the chapter in the new history text books, as well as the rise of the Allied States. IT was a bright future ahead for the Allied States but they had to be ready.

"People of the Allied States, I thank you for electing me as your President of this fine country. I believe that with the resources we have and the strength the former nation of America has left us we have the power to grow as a people and a nation. While yes the surrounding countries are strong and their armies twice if not quadruple the size of our own, we will prevail. I will do my best to protect the goals and ideals we have based upon this nation, I will do my best to expand the wealth of this nation and its people. We will not be stopped in our goals! We will rise to the challenge and become a great power in the region! We are the Allied States of America and may god help us that we will succeed!" the crowd cheers as the President finished the short speech, the speech was being aired around the Allied States on all the TVs. The time has come for their rise to power.

Your suggestion of restarting the Former United States NORAD Command to defend the nations of North America is a bold one, but I think we can work out a deal. As you may know the Allied States of America currently occupy and control the Former United States; now Allied States, Strategic Command Center, as well as several nuclear missile silos that are all capable of being launched at several targets. We believe that we should have a decent position in the continuation of the NORAD Command. We await your response and hopefully you make your decision well.

The Ravenwood jeep bounced along the border as a patrol, keeping an eye on the vast fields that covered the landscape. Across that border was the Republic of "Texas" though more of an amalgamation of states that were in the south and west of the Mississippi River, they knew they were strong, but Ravenwood were just private contractors that did what their employers told them. Thus they were patrolling the border, though they didn't know why they needed their support when they had plenty of the former United States missile silos which were still armed and capable of being launched, but they didn't question anything since they were being paid. They continued along the border, slightly dozing off, the sun was shining lightly on the fields and it was as if the day was simply a day where nothing would go wrong.

His campaign for reelection was goin alright, however he would like to see it go much better. He knew just how to hype up his campaign.

Princess Olivia Hamsten, the so called indefinite leader of the Arctic Federation, sat quietly at her desk, facing the large window that looked out on the anchorage sound. Off in the distance sat at least a dozen colorful sailboats, bobbing swiftly on the choppy cool waters. Farther out sat fishing boats, likely attempting to nab the large fish that enjoyed to hunt in the sound. Even farther than that were two Orange and White "Blackhawk" Helicopters, drilling Coast Guard Rescue Divers, likely from the nearby base, only 20 miles away.

Olivia sighed. Looking back on her days in the Coast Guard, it seemed as if they sucked at the time. But now, she wished she was back then, serving with her comrades both in Florida, New England, and then finally, Alaska. After the split of the US, they had all gone their separate ways, back to their home states. She wondered where they were now.

But alas, there was work to be done. Not but two days ago, both Parliament and herself had approved a bill funding the creation of three oil refineries on the border between Yukon and Alaska, in an attempt the growing but currently small Alaskan oil industry and fund jobs in the area.

The problem for Olivia was not that Alaska didn't have plenty of economic opportunity; it was that it had taken many months to try and repeal the multiple sustaining laws protecting the environment in the area. Now, former US nature reserves were being drilled and logged on by large Arctic companies, and people were almost reluctant to buy, because of the recent of supply in the industry. That had caused enough problems within itself.

Another problem was that the Federation's General Staff was having a very difficult time organizing any type of professional military. It wasn't that there weren't many volunteers, there were plenty of those, it was that a majority of the volunteers, former hunters or farmers, simply wouldn't follow orders, show up to work, or work as a coordinated unit. They simply went off into the woods by themselves or with a few friends and shot moose, deer, and birds for "training". Those men certainly would stand up to a professional military.

Olivia yawned and let her eyes droop as the last rays of sunlight disappeared over the still water, the port side now lit up by street lights. The city was quieting, there was no more to do. The last of the crabbing and fishing boats began to dock, their traps set for tomorrow's catch. Off in the distance, the two Coast Guard helicopters still thundered through the air. Olivia grimaced. The poor divers would likely be out there all night, in freezing water. Her eyes closed, fraught with exhaustion, as the sunlight disappeared from the Alaskan sky.

Ashleigh Bermudez, the current President of the Confederal Republic elected in 2019, was the first post-United States executive of Florida. 3 years after the collapse of the United States mainland Florida was stablizing....which was good, however, the other two members of Florida....Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands had a plethora of economic woes exasturbated by the destabilization of the Union's demise. These were key points in Bermudez's campaign, closing the gap between Florida and its Caribbean territories. There was also on going debate about the status of Guantanamo Bay, which Florida reoccupied in 2017 before Cuba had a chance to reclaim it. There was a divide on whether to formally annex it or to end the old US lease and return it.

Though, like most Floridians, Ashleigh was quite resentful of what was perceived as the International community turning their noses up at their Republic. Floridians felt they'd been denied their rightful place on the United Nations Security Council and the G20, while New England, California, Texas, and even Quebec got permanent seats. Bermudez also promised to rectify this discrepancy as well.......

Prime Minister Joseph Dunford's Adress to the people of New England

Boston, Massachusetts: 2020 AD

Prime Minister Joseph Dunford was a man who had been through hell and back. In his younger years he had served as a marine in the US military, then, as he grew older, he had risen through the chain of command and whilst he no longer served upon the battlefield, he was still forced to watch in horror as his subordinates, his friends, died following his orders. He had reached the highest office possible, yet everything had been torn away from him in an instant. The dissolution of the United States of America had been a tragedy, the bastion of freedom flickering out like a candle in the wind, with nothing anyone could do. At first he had been lost, he had returned home to New England to find anarchy, yet eventually, through the hard work of the people peace and order had been restored. Joe had had a hard life and he knew that there were many struggles still to come, but as he looked out upon the crowd of people before him he couldn’t help but think that he was facing his hardest challenge yet.

Politics.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage the Prime Minister, for his weekly address.” A polite applause could be heard from the room, though nothing too loud, Joe was aware that he did not hold the complete respect of all those in attendance, for both a far left and the far right thought him tolerable at best and at worst an old guard general whose premiership halted most progress within the state. Whilst his party held a majority within the parliament at the current time, their position was far from secure and the collapse of the US had led to much political division, driving may to the extreme.

"My fellow Americans. The people of New England. It has certainly been a busy week here in Boston, not only for myself and other members of parliament, but also for you: the people. The past year has led to great turmoil and unrest, though with American strength and New England courage we have managed to persevere. The dissolution of the United States was a tragedy, and in its wake many things were left unclear, but that is not what I have brought to talk about today. We have had enough of tragedy, it is time to put an end to this dark period in our history." Once again there was respectful applause, with the press scribbling furiously, taking down notes.

"After a long discussion with both the Minister of Sports and the Chancellor I have an exciting announcement. Following the fall of the United States, the status of the 2028 Olympic Games was left uncertain, whilst they were supposed to take place in Los Angeles, California, the economic collapse of the Union meant that there was no one to pay the United State's big. Today I will say in front of you all: New England will pay. Talks have begun with the Olympic Committee of America for New England to pay the United State's bid in full to have the Olympic Games hosted right here in Boston, Massachusetts. We are a new nation, and having the honour of hosting such an ancient event so soon after our foundation will truly show the world that New England is not just another post-America nation state, but rather a country to be respected." This drew much louder applause, and even the opposition could be seen getting caught up in the moment. Of course there was likely to be a scathing headline tomorrow morning regarding a waste of New England funds, however today the people were united.

"That is not all. Today I would also like to take the time to announce something if equal importance: New England has officially sent an application to join the Commonwealth of Nations. Do not be alarmed. This does not mean that the country will be seeing a great upheaval with Queen Elizabeth II coming to take the role of Head of State. No. We will still be a Republic, like many other Commonwealth States. However in order to carve out a national identity it has been decided that we will join many other nations of the Anglo-Sphere in preserving culture and history and encouraging international relations." Cameras flashed brightly as reporters hurried to be the first to report the story.

"Finally, I would like to publicly address an issue of foreign policy. President Brandon Kiser of the so-called 'Texas Republic' has invited New England, along with other successor states to the United States of America to reform the North American Air Defense organisation. I have refused his offer to join this organisation. I believe that Texas should stop trying to meddle in the affairs of other states. This represents a much larger problem within former American territories. States refuse to stay within their national boundaries. After the collapse many new 'Frankenstein' states were formed out of different states: countries like Texas took the opportunity to annex their neighbors and use their strength to force smaller states to submit to their will. Whilst the Southern Union comprises of many former states with their own rich history, Texas is the name of the state and it is Texas that holds dominance over their affairs. If this was not bad enough, attempts are being made to add more territory to these unholy unions, with smaller states being annexed, forced to agree just to survive. I believe, and I have always believed in states rights, and now without the protection of the Union they are more important than ever. New England stand with small independent states likes Arkansas and belirve that they should retain their right to independence. People like Kiser believe that bigger states have a right to dominate and govern their neighbors and I condemn this mentality."

The Prime Minister Addresses Parliament and the People

Parliament Hill, Ottawa: 2020

It was momentous day for the Vancouver Republic as the Prime Minister stood to adress a joint session of Parliament and the Senate whilst millions watched at home. The Prime Minister was luckily used to the acting and had the gravity required to pull off the speech he was about to give, even the Leader of the Opposition Stephen Harper having returned to politics looked on with a stoic face not even muttering a peep as the PM took to the stand. This was to be the biggest day in the nation's history since Canada officially dissolved, even the formation of the Republic itself paled in comparison to what was to be said that day and what had just been secretly voted on to unanimous support from the gathered MP's. So here he was, a former actor turned politician about to announce something that was going to affect millions upon millions of people in North America and drastically change the political mood.

"My fellow Canadians." That single phrase reverberated through the chamber and into the homes of the millions watching, immediatly the public gallery stood up in massive almost feverish applause and the MP's followed. It was nothing, a simple phrase but the meaning behind it meant all the world at this time. "When I was first elected to my post by the people it was at a time of great misery, our beloved nation had fallen prey to vultures and it's dissolution was, in many of our minds, the single worst day in our history. It tore families apart and allowed certain outsiders, I won't name any particular names, to declare Canadian territory theirs and erect unsophisticated and decadent monarchs. It divided a nation like it was no more than a slice of pizza destroying centuries of culture and patriotism, it was terrible. But I am here to bring hope back to all Canadians from any province or from any territory with a simple declaration which I shall announce today."

The mood in the chamber was one of great anticipation, it was coming and they knew it. Some MP's gripped their seats so tightly the wood was scratched.

"We are Candians and we shall always be Canadians, whether you are from Quebec or British Columbia, Saskatchewan or the Northwest Territories we unite with one voice whenever called upon and minor American political troubles will never break that bond. This is why not 1 hour before this very speech a vote took place within this very chamber and I am proud to announce that with immediate effect and with unanimous support the Republic of Vancouver is hereby dissolved and the Republic of Canada shall be born from its ashes like a rising phoenix."

More applause followed and for 5 minutes straight a standing ovation prevented the continuation of the speech and chants of "Canada!" could be heard up and down the nation.

"The Republic of Canada recognises itself as the sole legal successor in all things to the Kingdom of Canada and I mean all things including territory. Any member of the public who was a citizen of the Kingdom of Canada shall be granted immediate Canadian citizenship and this includes their families whether or not they were citizens before or newly born children you are all welcome in Canada. You need only some to the border and present evidence where necessary and you shall be welcomed with open arms back into the brotherhood of unity. I send to other successor states and northern vultures this message, join us in unity and rebuild the Canadian dream because no matter what the Canadian dream will find you. Now to close my speech will you all join me in a rendition of our beautiful anthem."

All stood up and with hands on heart began to sing.

Once it was concluded people just sat for a moment and took it all in before one shout began the patriotic frenzy "Long live Canada!"

“...and now I would like to welcome Chief Secretary for her words on the matter.” applause erupted from the senators as she took the stand. “Thank you all, thanks. First off, I cannot say how well our country has been doing and how far we’ve come over the past few years. I know I say stuff like this every week but really you have to look at the progress, we’ve come far. We have a stable currency and a stable economy we’ve become one of if not the riches country in the former North American states.” Applause and cheers came from the right side of the senate, with only a couple of claps from the left side. “But now we begin our triumphant rise to become and example for other American states, a country of peace and freedom that upholds the ideals of every citizen. Which is why we must address the issues in our country, we cannot put them off if we are to continue growing. It is our duty to serve our people with proper transportation and education. Studies have shown that being near a mode of public transportation is one of the most important variables in the economic success of a neighborhood. With public transportation people have the ability to move, and go and take part in society. They have the ability to get a job and to take part in society and meet new people. Must I remind you how important national unity is, especially in a time like this. If we must raise taxes to pay for our new wave of transportation and schools then so be it.” Applause came from the senate.
“Not only is it Transportation that is important but also education. As the former Dean of Stanford this one is one of the most important to me. We must make sure our education system I see updated, and that our children are learning, and our schools are safe and modern. We must make sure our teachers are adequate and that no matter how much it cost we pay for even the poorest people to have an adequate education. Am I wrong, is it not in our interest to help our citizens. It is our duty to provide for our citizens and to help them become successful in any way we can.” Applause erupted from the crowd as the Chief Secretary went to sit down.
