You treat it like that, but when people bandwagon behind it using a made up term then it kinda becomes a thing. To argue otherwise is denial.

It's not a defined ideology, though, it's a brand of rhetoric if anything. It's completely worthless to pretend its some kind of brand new ideology or way of thought in the American system, because it's not. It's just standard Tea-Party Republican policy with smatterings of Progressive and Populist style, dubbing it something else is self-delusion and making it out to be far more important and earth-shattering than it actually is, and feeding into the President's ego.

To argue otherwise is denial.

That's true in practice. In the primaries and the campaign, though, it looked like Trump might be reviving the pre-FDR Republican party or even the Federalists. Neither side in the US supports a withdrawal from foreign intervention for instance: they just have different preferred models. Trump sounded like he supported a withdrawal from foreign intervention.

To be fair, Democrats haven't been helpful ether as they allowed an emergency spending bill to pass without DACA instead of holding the government hostage.

Coolidge was fairly progressive, if a believer in limited federalism. In any case, the Great Depression was the result of innumerable factors, and Coolidge's presidency's contribution to it is, at most, a failure to dismantle the institutions that were silently spiraling towards disaster beneath the happy facade of a healthy economy in a new and unprecedented era, and expecting that kind of foresight is expecting the past to have our hindsight.

Uh

"Pre-FDR Republicans" is a weird way to describe a time in the GOP where they were anti-interventionist...

Hughes wanted to enter war in 1916 election, Roosevelt displayed American firepower around the globe with his naval fleet, along with intervening against European powers in Venezuela and Cuba, and occupied Nicaragua and Panama, and McKinley kinda started a war that killed whatever was left of Spain and personally ensured it became a useless backwater poorer than Russia.

GOP anti-interventionism spans roughly beginning-1880s and 1920s-1930s.

Though if we treat the ultimatums to Japan and Korea and other backwaters as interventionism, then the GOP was never truly noninterventionist.

Musso was pretty inconsistent and Gentile didn't really get to implement or even really articulate his conception of fascism among the masses until Nazism had already become a force to be reckoned with in Germany.
