No, not really.

Proms are a party the school provides, however, compulsory education just pays for the education, no taxes go to afterschool events unless they're intramural sports.

I'm the sort of guy who avoids after school events. I even managed to avoid a pep rally. So I don't think I would care if prom was abolished. Besides, I think prom is kind of pointless, to be honest.

Sounds like OP is bitter about never having went to prom.

Dating is not about mating. Dating someone certainly does not mean I intend on fathering a child with them.

Prom does not "tempt" people to mate. People can have sex whenever they want, really--prom existing doesn't somehow give people the chance to have sex. Anyway, a good portion of the people that go to any school dance go to parties afterward. They don't give in to whatever weird temptation you're making up and go fuck somewhere. So, if you were to make any argument for getting rid of prom, I'd use the after-parties as ammunition for that. Not sex.

Actually, even if he were, the fact that people chose that over other cheap shots still proves beyond a reasonable doubt what NSG thinks of people who can't get a date.

I did, in fact, enjoy myself. That's another one discredited.

I resisted temptation by the fact that she wasn't going to the same college I was, considered me a friend in no uncertain terms, and I considered the latter for the best on account of the former, being that it avoids creating an emotional connection that'd have to be severed. Even if neither of us had avoided temptation, it would've been a pleasant memory if it happened not to end in her pregnancy, just as it does for everyone else who had sex when the implications of the risk being taken were dire.

Not everyone can do that, as the vast majority of them pick the college closest to their hometown and not everyone has a "going their separate ways" person with whom to pair.

I had another option in mind who was going to the same college, but I also knew she had previous boyfriends, so it would've been only slightly more tempting.

"Religious people" nothing. If you're literally in the same room as her for years on end, the temptation would be immense.

I suppose it was already there for homosexuals, but they only risk STDs, which affect each other, but they don't bring a child into the situation.

Yet there is one thing that directly legitimizes that decision, for less value to student education. It's called prom. Let's not mince words; dating is about mating. That's why it's distinct from friendship in the first place. Yet on prom night, everyone's tax dollars go toward celebrating an event that actively encourages students to either partake in a relationship inseparably linked from mating, or alternatively, to take a friend and pretend it's that sort of relationship. (And then tempt themselves and each other to make it that sort of relationship anyway.)

So why hasn't the abstinence-only crowd abolished prom night yet? If it's because they're not numerous enough, then who are these people who want to keep both prom and abstinence-only sex ed, and how do they justify that decision?

I'd abolish the Electoral College before High School Prom night. We're more likely to get fucked bc of that. :p

Wrong again! Was slightly tempted, but not enough to go for it, precisely because I planned prom night in a way that prevented me from being that tempted. Of course, compared to others, I might be less horny and/or less confident in my ability to predict her decision to abort or not abort, being that the risk of having to drop out from child support bills doesn't deter others as much as it deters me.

I'm actually on the fence about both prom and abstinence-only sex ed. The way I see it we can have one or the other, but not both. Mixing them is a contradiction, treated as non-hypocritical only by people who underestimate how primal people are. People have sex even though it's led to financial ruin for those involved. Let's not underestimate these urges.
