I've always wondered why these people keep trying this -- like, what's the point, if it's clearly never going to happen?

They are bitter for being banned from TSP.
For the record, they were banned for trolling. The fact they were also calling for the murder of all communists and the overthrow of the regional government did not help.

Let's start talking about the issues at hand with the region.

Detail how it is false then.
Let's break down the OP.
"The South Pacific has an establishment"
20 different people have won elections in 2017. Pretty big 'establishment'.
"who have flooded the region with corruption over the last few years"
We actually have a more open government than ever, with the entirely gameside-elected Local Council now having significant power over the gameside, including border control (indeed, it was the LC who made the decision to banject Invictean).
"Several anti-establishment parties have tried to win elections there, but have come short"
There are 3 parties who have had candidates in elections this year: APC, TIL, and SPP. All of them have had at least one candidate win an election.
"After TSP Next exposed them though, they are keeping them from being freely elected"
In the short time it has existed, TSP next has done nothing but complain, without any attempt to actually improve TSP. They have never fielded a candidate for any election.
