Wasn't it 12 million, and I doubt that only three countries caused 500 million deaths due to gun control and atrocities cause by the people not having guns.

However, I get your point and it is a valid argument that I agree with.

Yes, but I suggest that the requirement be expanded to cover any use or transport of a firearm in usable condition requiring said license off of private property with the consent of the owner. Once one has the license, however, one can carry the firearm anywhere that the owner of the property has not explicitly forbade it.

That's pretty much exactly as it is now, with exception to on-duty police officers, doing police-officer-things with issue-firearms in places where firearms are usually prohibitted because some crimminals don't read that memo.

Heck, there was this one family that thought the brick wall of a school made an awesome backstop for their hunting-rifles...
^ Technically that's about 3 state felonies and a dozen township ordnances rolled into one thing.

There are laws not only on where you can shoot from in relation to other things and properties, but also what direction to shoot and when.

Though the more I think about it, since the clip ejects automatically it probably would make more sense for "PING!" to be the 8th thread.

Would be hilarious if a "ping" occured every 8th time I edit a post.... I'd edit posts more often then.

The main reason why the population of Russia and China couldn't resist with weapons is because they couldn't afford weapons.

What enabled Nazi Germany to commit its atrocities was citizen complacency. The Jews never stood a chance, they were a tiny minority in Germany and Europe.

The fallacy comes in the idea that it was Nszi gun control laws that disarmed Jewish people wholesale. While they did confiscate guns from those they saw as unreliable, levels of firearms ownership in Weimar Germany were already low.

The counterfactual argument isn't so much "What if the Nazis hadn't passed the laws disarming Jews" and more "What if the Jews had been adequately armed."

You say the Jewish people were a small minority. While true, armed government agents are also a small minority of the population. At it's peak, the Wehrmacht had about 6.5 million personnel. The Schutzstaffel had less than a million at most. Given that far fewer of those personnel were actually fit to kick in doors and haul people off to camps, an armed Jewish populace, that managed to kill even one Nazi per family seized, would have made the holocaust unsustainable. And that's assuming the Third Reich could have committed it's ENTIRE army to the raiding of Jewish homes, given that they were fighting wars as well at this time, that's simply not feasible.

So, to clarify, the basis of this idea is that an atrocity such as the holocaust would be prohibitively resource consuming to execute if your target demographic was reasonably armed.

The NSDAP actually somewhat strengthened gun rights for pure Germans and party members. Even if the weapons law hadn't been passed it's doubtful the minority groups would have been able to do much because they were just that, small minority groups.

Twelve million people armed with guns wouldn't be as likely to be attacked. Same logic as putting up a sign that says, "We have guns here" and not getting robbed.

You'd do well to remember a great many of the people killed in the Holocaust weren't from Germany. They were from all over Europe so German gun laws didn't have a ton of impact on them.
