Beaurivage where the fatal incident occurred
ANDREGUÉ -- A traffic policeman died on Thursday morning after being struck by a motor vehicle along Andregué's scenic Avenue de Beaurivage. The incident, the first police-linked fatal incident of the year in the province of Coste-Dorée, is reportedly being investigated as a criminal act.

According to witnesses, the officer, whose identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin, was inspecting parking meters near the Grand Champion hotel resort when, around 11:00, a grey sedan heading down the narrow avenue at an unusually high speed struck him. While bystanders attempted to rush to his aid, he is thought to have been killed on impact by the force of the collision. Some witnesses claimed that the car swerved immediately prior to the collision, raising the possibility of a deliberate assault.

The vehicle failed to stop after the collision, disappearing down a side street. Its occupants have been deemed persons of interest by police, and an alert has been put out for the vehicle, which investigators described as a silver or grey mid-2000s Fonan Couronne sedan.

The sudden speed of the collision sent holidaymakers strolling along the oceanside avenue into a panic, with people in the street scrambling to get out of the car's way. Except for a few minor grazes, no other injuries were reported as a result of the hit and run.

A spokesman for the Andregué Civil Guard, the small police agency serving the prefecture of 78,000, confirmed that the deceased officer was on its payroll. "We are in shock at the sudden loss of a colleague and fully investigating the tragic circumstances," he added.

National Police officers from the Carillion detachment were dispatched to assist with the investigation. With the suspects still at large, officers have been cautioned to exert vigilance on patrol.

Government issues vouchers to battle economic woes
Vouchers expected to contribute two percent growth to economy
Наморайин | English

Minister of Economic Development Chen Kangvang (left) said government-issued
vouchers will be made available to citizens and permanent residents of Namor
on November 10
Namo - The Namorese government issued consumer vouchers as part of its stimulus program, a move that it says will increase consumption and prevent Namor's contracting economy from tumbling into recession.

The Ministry of Economic Development says over P931 billion (133 billion USD) in consumer vouchers are being distributed to recipients across the country. Recipients not only include Namorese citizens, but non-citizens permanently residing in Namor. Each citizen is entitled to P1010, or 145 USD, in vouchers.

Announcing the release of the vouchers, Minister of Economic Development Chen Kangvang said the vouchers are expected to contribute up to two percent growth to Namor's GDP, which contracted for the first time in over three decades in the last quarter.

"We are optimistic that these vouchers will spur consumption. Consumption, along with job regrowth and a rebound in foreign investment, will grow our economy," Chen told reporters.

All recipients have already been notified of their eligibility to receive vouchers by mail. They may pick up their vouchers at the nearest post office starting November 10, 2017.

Citizens of Riro, who will automatically obtain Namorese citizenship in January 2018 when the state joins Namor, will not be part of the voucher program, Chen said.

OP-ED Namor, we got this
President-General Antelope Shohai argues that the administration is determined and resourceful enough to tackle challenges ahead
Image
President-General Antelope Shohai

Namo - "No nights last forever," a legendary sage-poet once wrote. As our nation confronts major difficulties unseen since the 1980s, it is important that all of us keep this saying in mind.

Namorese everywhere are not complacent with what's going on now. Despite successful efforts by our citizens in uniform, with the support of the public, to rescue countless lives that were almost swept away on June 10, many of us are still feeling the effects of the deadliest tidal wave in Namor in over two centuries. Almost five months after that tragic day, the People's Republic is on the move once more, but it is clear from the statistics that not everyone feels this nation is recovering. More alarming still is the fact that not everyone feels recovered themselves.

I'm writing this as I return to the Executive House from my second visit to the wave-struck beaches of Tuhao and Khao. In both visits, I witnessed a lot of destruction, from fallen trees to abandoned factories. But I also witnessed one of the most beautiful sights in life — the sight of human beings helping each other, setting aside whatever differences that may have kept them apart to rebuild the nation we all belong to. From Tojav to Kenyen, millions of people vowed not to stop helping their neighbors, siblings, and cousins until everyone is back on their feet.

These sights have given me the courage to report to you — in my capacity as the highest elected representative of the Namorese people — that we got this.

In the face of a national disaster, you have proven yourselves to be a nail that cannot be hammered into submission. I want you to know that in 2015, you elected a team that is equally prepared to face any challenges along the way. Some of us are Liberationists who have worked to turn our country from an economic backwater into a metropolis in the developed world. Some of us took part in the pro-democracy movements of the 1970s and understand the spirit of resistance, the power of keeping one's ground in the face of adversity. The people whom I've been working with at Namo are determined to make our lives better. Not only that, we are resourceful enough to satisfy this determination.

Since the tidal wave, we've recovered over a million jobs and created a million more. Plans are underway to not only rebuild the roads, hospitals, and schools lost on June 10 but to build even more than what we had before. I have directed officials at all levels to facilitate the comprehensive implementation of the Regeneration Act. In addition to that, I have called for tougher punishments against those who use the Regeneration Act for their own benefit.

At the time of writing, consumer vouchers — one of the several provisions in the Regeneration Act awaiting comprehensive implementation — are being distributed to citizens to increase consumption. Under a fully implemented Regeneration Act, we are expected to return to positive growth by the end of the year. The consensus among economists is that growth is not a possibility, but an inevitability.

I say all this against the backdrop of pessimism that has begun to take hold. As many of you are still worrying about what the future holds for us all, let me remind you that the wheels of progress cannot be stopped. It's statistically impossible for a millennia-old civilization to be crippled by a tidal wave on a summer day. However strong or high they may be, the waves cannot change the fact that Namor is better off than it was decades ago. We have more or less completed the transition from an export-based to a consumer-based economy, and our renewed strength has irreversibly changed the power dynamics of Velkia. These are accomplishments we can still be proud of, regardless of what nature throws in our way.

No nights last forever. Namor, we got this.

BREAKING: SWORDSMEN SEIZE CARILLON POLICE STATION
Several officers taken hostage, assailants also thought to be responsible for previous hit-and-run

Image

Via the Aininian Press Association - A major attack has shut down large swaths of Downtown Carillon, trapping hundreds of thousands of workers and residents in place. The incident, which is still ongoing, began when three individuals brandishing swords entered the Point-Lagrange police station and took its occupants hostage. The attackers are thought to be the same individuals sought in connection with a fatal hit and run incident in nearby Andregué that claimed the life of a municipal traffic policeman.

At around 9:15 on Saturday, a grey sedan pulled up in front of the Point-Lagrange police station, an installation of the National Police serving the oceanfront business district. Three masked men clad in black clothing emerged from the vehicle, which was abandoned in the middle of the street, and ran into the station. Catching officers by surprise, they reportedly slashed several individuals, both policemen and civilians, and took the remainder hostage. A civilian accountant and an auxiliary police officer managed to escape through a rear fire exit. They reported that at least three officers, including the receptionist and two who had attempted to resist their assailants, had been killed in the initial assault.

Authorities confirm that the staff of the Point-Lagrange station did not have access to firearms, limiting their ability to resist the incursion. A typical patrol officer of the National Police is armed with a heavy-duty flashlight that double as a truncheon and a can of pepper spray.

Other officers, many of them armed, quickly swarmed the scene. Operatives of the elite BRUIT counter-terrorist unit have been reported on the scene, as have members of the National Police Armed Intervention Unit and dozens of other law enforcement personnel. In order to deter an armed assault, two of the hostage-takers reportedly retreated into an office with their captives, threatening to kill them if anything were to happen to the third man in the lobby.

Seventeen people were in the police station at the time of its seizure. With the escape of two individuals and an unknown number killed in the initial attack, up to fifteen hostages remain in the building. It is unknown if the attackers are in the possession of bombs or firearms, but the presence of heavily-armoured officers and a bomb squad on scene indicates that such a possibility is likely.

As the assailants are yet to make any demands, their motivation remains unknown. Police have declined to corroborate rumours, based on their costumes and choice of weapon reminiscent of fundamental Islamic propaganda videos, that they are members of the Caliphate. "We are unwilling to deem this incident terrorist in nature at the moment," National Gendarmerie spokeswoman Brig. Julie Charbonnier said in a conference call with media.

The incident is thought to be the most major attack in Ainin since the April 2015 Talon bombings, when two self-radicalised Caliphate supporters detonated bombs in separate areas of Ainin's 3rd largest city. The blasts, which occurred at the city's iconic East Gate triumphal arch and a busy intersection in the Namorese Quarter, killed 572 and injured over 1,700.

In response to this incident, security has been boosted across the country. Armed police and military Republican Guards have been spotted near government offices and major public areas, such as transit hubs and squares. Prime Minister Marianne de Lotbinière's office confirmed that she was being briefed on the incident and would chair a meeting of the Committee for National Security in the afternoon.

Carillon, a city of 1.3 million in a region of southeastern Ainin known as the Golden Coast for its beaches and tropical vacation resorts, is the capital of Coste-Dorée province.

MAYOR OF MIDAINA KILLED IN BOMBING
Walid al-Faddi, mayor of Midaina has been killed in a Black Hand bomb attack
Image
Aftermath of the roadside bomb attack that killed 11 people.
Midaina- Mayor of Midaina, Walid al-Faddi has been killed in an apparent roadside bomb explosion. At least 11 other people were killed and another 21 injured in the explosion on October 3rd Avenue. The mayor was returning from an event at the Waqadah Naval Base, which hosts the command centre of the Aininian-Luziycan Mazari Security Task Force. The Black Hand terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

The explosion happened at the 3rd intersection of the October 3rd Avenue, as the mayor’s motorcade crossed, the explosion destroyed the three middle vehicles, one of which contained the mayor and several members of his personal staff. He was approximately three minutes-drive away from the secure city hall complex. 10 people were killed in the vehicles, while a pedestrian was also killed.

The assassination of al-Faddi makes him the highest-ranking government official to be murdered, after Mesbah Jalabi, the Finance Minister who was shot dead by takfiri extremists in 2013.

Walid al-Faddi, a close friend of President Yusuf Nasr, was appointed in 2010 to oversee plans to dramatically invest and modernise the country’s largest city. Following the outbreak of the foreign-enforced civil war in 2012, the Mayor focused on securing the city from terrorism and mobilising its population in support of the government’s efforts to defend the nation from terrorist forces.

The terrorist gang known as the Black Hand, which is backed financially and politically by the Union of Nautasian Islamic Republics, claimed responsibility. In an audio message released on social media, the group claimed that “the death of al-Faddi was another attack upon the corrupt puppet authority of the Aininian-Luziycan Occupation.”

President Nasr declared his murdered ally and friend a “true servant of the Mazari people, who always look to their needs above all else. The nation and Midaina will surely miss him, we lost a great national figure today.”
The Ministry of Public Security has announced an investigation into the Mayor’s brutal murder, a spokesman confirmed that, “we will be looking to all staff who were aware of the Mayor’s route from the meeting with our allies at the naval base, back to city hall. We will leave no stone unturned, especially if suspicions of traitors in the city’s government are realised.”

In recent weeks the Midaina Security Office made great successes in arresting or eliminating known Black Hand cells operating across the city. Since October 25th, over 80 Black Hand militants have either been arrested or killed by the MSO.

DDAC designated as a Terrorist Organisation

Last week the Dashtani-Druze Autonomous Council which illegally governs a region of southern Mazaristan declared it’s separation from Mazaristan. Since, the DDAC has declared support for various rebel groups known collectively as the Popular Liberation Front. In response the government has designated the DDAC a terrorist organisation and will now seek to “re-establish just rule over southern Mazaristan.”

Akram Aridi, the leader of the DDAC has been placed on the government’s Most Wanted List, which also includes the leaders of Hayat Tahrir Islami, the so-called Caliphate and the various militias under the PLF.

Speaking after a meeting of the War Cabinet, Prime Minister Ebrahim Ali said, “after much deliberation, the government has decided to designate the Dashtani-Duze Autonomous Council and its militia, the Dashtani-Druze Protection Group as terrorist organisations. They’re declaration of separatism makes it at odds with the Mazari nation, for our territorial integrity is unquestionable. Government forces will now move to restore legitimate rule over the Dashtani and Druze citizens of Mazaristan.”

The DDAC’s decision to illegally breakaway from Mazaristan will no doubt lead to conflict. Leading Mazari Defence Force commander, General Mohmmad al-Faqih said, “we will prosecute any operation against the DDAC terrorist movement cleanly, professionally and successfully. We will evict the UNIR-puppets from our territory.”

The DDAC is currently supported by the UNIR with the presence of a training base near Saffad Ali, which houses some 300 UNIR soldiers. Previously, the UNIR also shot down a MAF aircraft, yet, the MDF warned that any further attacks on MAF aircraft will result in “retaliation against UNIR forces in Saffad Ali.”

Namorians intrude upon Luziycan airspace
Image
Closeup of Namorese jet

KENYEN, NANTAI - Earlier today, a Namorese surveillance aircraft, escorted by four Namorese fighter jets, flew above Luziycan airspace without requesting clearance from Luziycan aviation authorities. This maneuver caused disruption to flights to and from Nantai, with one flight en route to Kenyen being forced to divert to Uroya in Kraya-Sud.

Defense Secretary Juliana Novak stated at a press conference that "five Namorese aircraft flew from north to south over Nantai. We radioed the aircraft to request that they leave Luziycan airspace, but they refused. We tracked their path, and it took them around 45 minutes to exit Luziycan airspace."

As it is nearly ten days to the mid-term elections for the House of Representatives, Dorothy Vasiliev slammed the response from the Department of Defense, telling people at a rally that "the cowardly response by the Luziycan government shows us that it is time to put Luziyca first, and to send a clear message that every square inch of the Christian Republic, is our territory. We will not give up one inch, no matter what."

"If I were in charge," she told a cheering crowd, "if they don't make a sincere effort to leave our airspace, we will shoot them down. And we will not repatriate their corpses to Namor!"

The Namorese government cannot be reached for comment.

POLITOBURO TO HOLD MEETING ON READJUSTMENTS TO CHERANAVIAN ECONOMIC POLICY IN RESPONSE TO NAMORESE SLUMP

Misna, Cheranavia- In the wake of the Namorese economic slump caused by the tidal disaster in Namor, the Esquarian economy is in a peculiar situation as consumer demand, net investment, and commodity prices all fall. With demand falling Cheranavian firms are expected to see revenue fall, potentially leading to a possible wage reduction. Expected reductions in commodity prices could lead to the closure of remote oil and gas wells in the Tatar autonomous region, and the potential implementation austerity measures, but unlikely. The resignation of President Pavel Perak also has reduced consumer demand in Ceresnia by creating an uncertain political climate in what is the countries largest trade partner, furthering the situation. With this economic uncertainty, Cheranavian citizens are increasing savings as noted by the Department of Economic Statistics, and spending is decreasing in the country.

Action has been called by members of all 3 major parties, however, the policies of all three couldn't be more different. The ruling party, Ĉyrvony Movement, has called for Cheranavian SOCM firms to look towards other countries to stimulate demand, the W-M Party has called to use this as an opportunity to further automate the economy, and become more self-sufficient, and the Syndicalists has used this to widen their calls for the Cheranavian economic model of Šausism to be abolished for a syndicalist economy similar to that of Alemmenia, as Chernavia comes closer to the 2018 elections, campaigning already starting.

In response, the potential of a slump in Cheranavia, Primer Tsikhamir Siarhieje, the Economic and Finance Ministers of Cheranavia, along with the heads of major firms in the country are expected to plan and write out a plan to go through this period of uncertainty in coordination with the People's Assembly. While specifics haven't been announced, we can expect further inroads towards self-sufficiency and automation would be pursued, as well as expansion into other countries, however, no official confirmation has been reached. The meeting is expected to be live-streamed on vašavidea.chr over this weekend and may lead to reforms.

NAMOR FLIES JETS OVER NANTAI
LUZIYCA SAYS FIVE NLAF AIRCRAFT FLEW OVER CONTESTED TERRITORY FOR 45 MINUTES BEFORE RETURNING
DEFENSE MINISTRY DEFENDS FLIGHT, HINTS OF MORE IN THE FUTURE

Image
A snapshot of a Namorese fighter jet purportedly flying
over Nantai (Luziycan Department of Defense)

November 6, 2017 (Bethlehem/Namo) - Namorese surveillence and fighter aircraft flew above Nantai, a prefecture in West Namor contested between Namor and Luziyca, in a move that may escalate tensions between the two countries.

Luziyca's Department of Defense said a squadron consisting of one Namorese Liberation Air Force surveillance aircraft and four fighter jets traversed Nantai from north to south for 45 minutes before returning to Namorese-controlled airspace. Defense Secretary Juliana Novak said the intruding aircraft ignored warnings over the radio to leave.

Den Konstitution, the Luziycan newspaper of record, said the Namorese maneuver forced one Kenyen-bound flight to land outside of Nantai, in the Luziycan state of Kraya-Sud.

The Namorese Ministry of Defense said Namorese Liberation Air Force (NLAF) aircraft had flown across Nantai as part of their "regular patrols of Namorese airspace."

"The Air Force was carrying out its normal duties of defending Namorese territory from the sky," said Defense Minister Wen Ketze, who rejected Bethlehem's account of the flight as "inaccurate" and said the Namorese jets faced "harassment from foreign aviation authorities."

"The flight neither posed a threat to civilians, nor did it enter foreign airspace at any point in time," Wen told reporters.

"Our Air Force has the right to patrol our airspace and step up these patrols if necessary," she added, suggesting that similar flights might happen in the future.

This is the first time Namorese jets flew over Nantai since 1997. That year, Luziyca hosted the annual Esquarivision song contest in Kenyen. Accusing Bethlehem of trying to legitimize its occupation of Nantai, Namor flew bomber, fighter, and surveillance jets over the territory to discourage other countries from participating.

The latest flight comes as Luziyca prepares for its upcoming midterm elections, which are expected to result in a landslide victory for the ultranationalist National Luziycan Party (NLP). The NLP has accused President Damir Agapov — and his disgraced predecessor Sera Svensson — of being too soft on Namor.

Some analysts point to the timing as a sign that the flight was intended to demonstrate Namor's unwillingness to compromise with Luziyca over Nantai, even if the Agapov administration is bound by an NLP-dominated legislature.

"This is nothing less than a show of force that is supposed to show the Luziycan voter that a tougher stance on Namor will not change our position on Nantai and other critical issues facing the two nations," said Yu Kungjo, professor of Velkian Studies at Namo University.

Li Tsao, director of the New Policy Foundation, a policy think tank of the New Democratic Party (NDP), believes multiple motivations are at play behind the flight.

"As he faces troubles at home, President-General Antelope Shohai hopes to get a popularity boost from confronting the Luziycan regime. But he is also testing Namor's traditional allies, some of whom are looking to cooperate with the new Luziycan administration. Shohai feels those allies aren't putting Namorese interests into consideration," he told the Mojing Sibo.

Li said the flight represents a "complete derailment" of the detente process initiated by the Fu administration years ago.

"At this point, the detente of Fu Wen has been abandoned both in name and in practice," he said.

DEVELOPING: Police Station Attackers Demand Mazari Withdrawal
SIEGE ENTERS SECOND DAY AS NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE – WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR
Image
CARILLON - The three attackers who seized a National Police post in Carillon have made a statement of demands, according to police officials knowledgeable about the situation. In the manifesto, they claimed allegiance to the Nautasian Freedom Defence Front, a terrorist organisation that operates in Mazaristan and Irvadistan, and demanded the "total and immediate" withdrawal of Aininian and Luziycan troops from Mazaristan, where Ankoreni-backed rebels are currently engaged in a civil war against the government of President Yusuf Nasr.

The development comes as the standoff enters a second day. The attackers, three in number, continue to hold thirteen people, seven police officers and six civilians, hostage. A policewoman and a civilian receptionist were killed in the initial attack, while two others escaped in the chaos. They are thought to be armed with swords and other melee weapons, and may also be in possession of a bomb. The assailants have moved the hostages into a windowless room at the centre of the building and threatened to murder them in the event of an assault, complicating police efforts to free them.

The attack began two days ago in the resort town of Andregué, an hour's drive away from Carillon. A grey sedan driven by the assailants, driving at a high speed down the town's beachfront Avenue de Beaurivage, fatally struck a traffic police officer in what police now describe as a "deliberate ramming attack". The officer was later identified as Assistant Inspector Robert Han, a member of the municipal Civil Guard who was on parking duty at the time.

While the hit and run was initially suspected to be accidental, all remaining doubt dissipated when the attackers materialised a day later in Carillon, capital of Coste-Dorée province, and stormed a police station in the city's oceanfront Point-Delagrange central business district. For more than a day, their lack of demands made their motivations unclear and authorities accordingly declined to label them terrorists.

However, with the release of their manifesto, National Gendarmerie Commander Gen. Victor Bleury confirmed to STA News that it now considered it a "major terrorist incident", the first since the 2015 Talon bombings by Caliphate-affiliated lone wolves. Negotiations are ongoing on site.

In Huimont, Prime Minister Marianne de Lotbinière remains "actively seized" on the situation, according to a spokesperson for the Cabinet Office. Yesterday afternoon, she chaired a meeting of the Committee for National Security to discuss security measures in the wake of the attack. When asked about the demand, the spokesperson tersely responded that "we will not equivocate on terrorist demands".

Deputy Jabar calls for “unity with UNIR”, derides Aininian naval base in Pisdara
Image
Patriotic deputy Eketanna Jabar called out both his party's recent move away from
orthodox Islamic collectivism and the continued existence of the Sakar Naval Station
(above) in the Legislature today

ASHURAGAR - In a session of the Legislature today, Patriotic deputy Eketanna Jabar rallied against his party’s recent move away from the UNIR, calling it “a disgrace and betrayal of the ideals of a free Nautasia.” Jabar’s comments come after the Islamic People’s Movement struck a deal with the leadership in the UNIR last month, allowing them further autonomy and the formation of what party leader Shadar Kabari calls “Pisdari-style Islamic Collectivism”. The decision has riled up more orthodox and hardline members of the party, who feel the autonomy signifies a break with the UNIR and a moves towards Ainin. Jabar summed up this feeling in his speech, calling the RUI “at risk of falling into Aininian hands.”

The most shocking of Jabar’s speech to the Legislature was however a rally to arms against the Sakar Naval Station, an Aininian installation of 363 personnel and the frigate Bonsecours. Operating since the 1940s, the existence of an Aininian station on the islands, and the general agreement on defense, has been a silent thorn in the side of anti-free associationists for a while, and Jabar made his position on the matter clear. Calling the station a “lasting imperialist stain on our otherwise virgin land”, Jabar caused uproar amongst pro-free associationist deputies by calling for the takeover of the station by the Pisdari National Guard and the end of the defense agreement between Pisdara and Ainin. When questioned on whether this was a violent call to arms towards the RUI’s more hardline supporters, Jabar denied such a motive, although he did state that “such an event could occur if the people are angered and Ainin refuses to listen.”

Jabar’s speech and explanation has caused issue both in and outside the Legislature. Both Consuls Durul and Desmarais have condemned the rhetoric used by Jabar, with the latter stating that he had contacted Aininian Prime Minister Marianne de Lotbiniere to reassure her that “Pisdara is safe.” Consul Kabari has yet to reply to the rather damning attacks made by his former right-hand man and ally. Meanwhile, the Sakar Naval Station has reassured government officials that “Mr. Deputy Jabar’s speech is only a speech. His words do not reflect the amicable relationship between the Aininian Navy and the Republic of Pisdara”, stated an official communique. Despite this, some protesters have begun setting up shop on the roads heading towards the base, calling for the removal of Aininian forces from Pisdara, spurred by Jabar and hardline Islamic collectivists who, to Consul Kabari’s dismay, may be harder to silence then previously thought.

RLM Leader and Provisional Government President Kelsang Karpo is purportedly directly leading the new offensive.

SPRAKHAMS - Breaking news from Sprakhams district of Tinza this morning, as numerous reports of an armed insurrection by the RLM militias in the area have begun to surface.

The reports remark that RLM militias have been appearing "seemingly out of nowhere" and securing vast swathes of rural territory in the Sprakhams district. This is much to the surprise of local informants, who have told us that Drogon seemingly had such a solid control over the region that it would have made an uprising such as this "simply unfeasible". It would seem that, despite this, the RLM has managed to take the initiative in the fighting. Other informants have noted that the fact that the RLM is focusing on the countryside suggests that their flagship party policy - known as "going to the people" - has been more successful than previously anticipated, and that the RLM are receiving at least tacit support from the rural peasantry.

News of the insurrection comes just weeks after the proclamation of an RLM-led Provisional Government, with Kelsang Karpo and Bhakto at it's head. It is suspected by many that the insurrection is intended to "drum up support" for the provisional government, by giving it a foothold in Tinza proper, and therefore making it a more viable contender with the Ladumra-centred Drogon administration which currently enjoys widespread international recognition.

Another surprising report is that the militias are allegedly being led and commanded on the group by Kelsang Karpo, the newly-elected RLM leader and Acting President of the Provisional Government who was staying in Alemannia mere weeks ago. While it is unknown as to how Kelsang had returned to Tinza without having been apprehended by forces loyal to Drogon Tsering, due to his previous post as a high-ranking leader in the RLM militias, and his purported military aptitude, it would not be considered unlikely that he would be chosen to direct the main offensive in the developing conflict.

Whatever the truth behind these reports, it would appear that the statements delivered by the Provisional Government to Drogon's regime were not idle threats, but were instead backed with intent.

Dashtani-Druze launch lightning offensive against Mazari regime
Dashtani-Druze Protection Group captures several towns and villages in first day of fighting.

Heavy clashes have been reported between forces loyal to Yusuf Nasr and forces aligned with the Dashtani-Druze Autonomous Council. According to local reports, DDAC militias have launched coordinated attacks on several towns and villages west of the current demarcation line. The DDAC has reportedly captured the towns of Dol Khorasht and Bani Daloun, though this has not yet been confirmed.

The DDAC’s offensive dubbed Operation Righteous Spear, began at 05.00am with artillery bombardments on Nasr’s forces located west of the Demarcation Line. Sources with the DDAC report that their forces swiftly overran Nasr’s forces, capturing several checkpoints, as well as weapons and vehicles. Within two hours the DDAC had reportedly taken Dol Khorasht and Bani Daloun, while they also reportedly entered the villages of Takrit, Balbak, Aswab and Talek.

Local sources report at least 85 government soldiers have been killed and up to 100 captured. At least 26 civilians have reportedly been killed in the fighting.

The dramatic offensive by the Dashtani-Druze will most likely send shockwaves through the Nasr regime and its backers in Ainin and Luziyca. The speed of their advance is resounding, the DDAC have also advanced east toward the Gizka Oil Fields, should the DDAC capture the oil fields in southern Mazaristan, the Nasr regime will be economically crippled.

Concern has grown however of the response to the DDAC’s offensive to reclaim its occupied territory. The Union of Nautasian Islamic Republics has vowed to defend the Dashtani and Druze minorities militarily if attacked by the Mazari regime or its Aininian and Luziycan allies. It is unlikely that the DDAC acted without re-securing the backing of that promise from the UNIR’s government, however sources in the DDAC indicate high levels of independence in deciding to act aggressively against the occupation of its peoples’ territory.

The only official statement by the Dashtani-Druze Autonomous Council on the attacks came through its radio station, Unity, in which it said, “the effort for liberation of our peoples has begun, prayer for our sons and daughters as they charge into the jaws of the beast.”

The DDAC’s senior leadership has gone underground in fear of Aininian or Luziycan airstrikes, while unconfirmed reports say they have fled south into the UNIR or taken refuge in the UNIR military facility near the city of Saffad Ali. If they have taken refuge in the facility to lead their war effort, attacking them would mean attacking a legitimate UNIR facility.

Photos and videos on social media shared by DDAC fighters show them entering villages, passing corpses of Nasr loyalists and replacing the Mazari flag with the DDAC’s. Others show locals cheering their liberators and greeting them with flowers and water.

Several senior UNIR figures have spoken out on the offensive. State Councillor Vahid Namdar warned that if “Nasr and his hordes attack the Dashtani and Druze as they seek only to return their stolen land, then we will come. We will come over night and they will be gone.”

The UNIR already has between 30,000 and 45,000 soldiers stationed close to the border with Mazaristan and shot down a Mazari fighter-jet several weeks ago after it attacked Saffad Ali during earlier clashes between the DDAC and government forces.

WEEKLY EDITION - ROSENBURG, NOVEMBER 07, 2017.

ELECTIONS FOR PARLIAMENT

Image
ROSENBURG - The 41st edition of Ferhard's parliamentary elections will be held on Sunday 12 November, which contains 100 representatives from the 5 provinces and 20 seats for each. Although no obstruction of the law on the part of the parties and their candidates has been recorded so far, many political scientists consider them the most competitive elections of the 21st century because of their high ideological diversity, as well as being the largest number of voters already registered since the 1970s: 11 million people have already confirmed they will go to the polls this Sunday, although the vote is optional, many young people and even the elderly will attend, according to research from the University of Rosenburg.

Others already rank the motive of so many candidates in the various towns and cities around the country, it must be said that young people are becoming increasingly interested in politics and public administration, as well as the high growth of the Liberal Party, which, being part of the opposition after more than 15 years, the general research carried out by all the means of research, universities and government has grown again. It is highly anticipated that they will for the first time begin to have greater significance beyond being merely a mere opposition, but they are unlikely to be the majority, or the Conservatives are forced to form a larger coalition that is already planned. Small parties, also called "alternative" - socialist, progressive and green parties - are likely to form an unofficial coalition, that is, that does not belong to the official liberal opposition.

THE PARTIES

CONSERVATIVES: The Conservative Party is undoubtedly Ferhard's greatest political party since the proclamation of the Second Republic in 1930, the party maintains a republican, catholic and traditionalist ideology in the face of social problems and economically is closer to social democracy, barely intervening in favor of national programs, something that is most constricted by the ideological projects of liberals, socialists, or even their moderate and nationalist counterparts, who have more pro-market or pro-intervention opinions. His current chairman is MP Peter Björk, 46, who according to him is part of the more moderate wing of his own party. However, with the elections coming and little publicizing, it is not known if you will stay there for a long time.

Conservative majority is expected in Parliament, but 50 seats is impossible, according to political expert Rikard Arbssen of the University of Rosenburg: "Liberals grow with each election, so I believe conservatives can barely get to have 45 seats, who gave 50." He spoke, despite this fall, it is undeniable to speak that the party and its coalition will have a large majority.

LIBERALS: Liberals, affectionately nicknamed "globalists of hell" by hard-line nationalists and conservatives, are Ferhard's second-largest political force and certainly the most annoying when it comes to opposition: without ruling for more than 20 years, liberals have already barred various laws in addition to having more support in cities and younger classes for their idioses considered "radical" by many people. The party defends classical liberalism, humanism and a non-interventionist economy, and has for decades defended the eradication of the Armed Forces and declared its neutrality.

Its current president is the economist Olaf Vickerssein, main professor of the University of Rosenburg that maintains its own institution based on the propagation of liberalism. The party is growing every day mainly by the students and the dominant middle class throughout the country despite being seen by bad looks among the workers, but gradually become the majority throughout the country.

The other parties, however, do not have enough to say: the moderates and the nationalists, who have been in coalition with the conservatives since 2006, keep to their letter what they stand for - so do the Progressives, Greens and Socialists. the latter with the lowest approval rating according to the population, being defended only by some left wing extremist intellectuals and workers.

AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY GROWS

Image
VINNBORG - A few kilometers from Rosenburg in the emerging city of Vinnborg, great news is celebrated by the citizens, this is due to the fact of the inauguration of the first factory of the city with more than 140 thousand inhabitants by Ferhard Motors, the biggest carmaker of the country. The company, which is located a few kilometers south of Rosenburg, will employ more than 3,000 workers and 2,000 additional jobs are generated involuntarily for the distribution and sale of the new popular car - the Odin 2000 (image), which was announced last week in a press conference to replace the company's old-fashioned Odin 1000, launched in 1979. According to the director of the new factory Steffen Girrald, this marks the beginning of the growth of the national car industry: "it is with a great pleasure that we announce this, because finally after a slight stagnation, the domestic industry grow back."

The Odin 2000 will be officially produced in 2018 and will be marketed in March at a price of 8,000 pounds per unit, a price that is a bit expensive compared to the Odin 1000, but justified because it is a fairly old car launch. The Odin 1000 forever marked the urban society of Ferhard for its simplicity and dynamics that made it be produced and sold in the millions until its discontinuation in April of that year. The car magazines have not yet been given more information, but according to specialist of the branch, the images given show how modern it is, at least for Ferhard.

Latest News: Nunalikan fishing vessels record record-breaking haul
Scientists have blamed unseasonally warm temperatures for the enormous amounts of fish caught, admidst fears of overfishing

A Nunalikan fishing boat in the Hyberborean sea
They say that with a good catch comes a good life. This traditional adage has been proven recently, as recent amounts of fish caught by Nunalikan fishermen within the traditional fishing area have completely exceeded expectations. In some areas, this catch was double that predicted by the Biological Institute of the Ministry of Fisheries. The incredible change in fortunes has come right before the coming of the Unnuaq where there is almost constant darkness and fishing almost stops, helping to replenish stocks of salted fish and other staple foods in case of a lowered food supply. Scientists from the Marine Biological Institute have traced this fishing boon to unseasonal warm currents that have attracted fish to the seas which by now would usually be too cold for most fish. One of the species made most abundant by this has been the whale. Whale is a traditional part of the Nunalikan diet and often becomes a luxury as the Unnuaq approaches due to a decrease in supply, yet this haul has allowed whale meat and whale blubber to remain on the shelves as part of the citizens meat allowance and not as a luxury.

We spoke to several Nunalikan fishermen to ask them their opinions on the matter. Towon Kiilapuut, an Aalaniaq ethnic fisherman from southern Illofarqik said this; "Praises be to Qilak, the great snow goose, and Imaq the great whale, for their bountiful provision of food to us and for this great temperate ocean," in a statement that echoes much of the population who, while not actively religious for the most part, identify with the traditional shamanistic beliefs of the Aalaaniaq pantheon. Others praised the leadership of Premier Qeqqeq Saamika, whose reforms to fishing policy have increased output.

However, not all voices were universally happy. Ilama Pakatsak, Chairman of the Biodiversity Commision who works alongside several foreign scientific agencies, has warned that "This bumper catch may seem to be great, but we must be careful not to exceed the international quotas of the Whaling Treaty". While Nunalik is not party to this treaty, it is considered to be jus cogens and there could be significant ramifications if there were to be too flagrant of a breach. For now however, the people of Nunalik can rejoice and celebrate with a traditional meal.

WORKERS RIOT AT HESKÎF INDUSTRIAL ZONE
As many as a hundred Ankoreni citizens held hostage by rioting workers at joint
Siphrian-Ankoreni industrial zone; army reportedly moving into zone to end crisis

Image

November 11, 2017 | Heskîf, Siphria | Siphrian workers at the Heskîf Joint Industrial Zone have apparently seized control of the industrial park, forcefully taking as many as one hundred Ankoreni overseers and staff present as hostages, reportedly after a dispute over non-payment of wages escalated into violence.

The Heskîf Joint Industrial Zone, located near the Siphrian-Ankoreni border north of Heskîf city, was established in 2001 by Siphria's Şehram Esîrî and Ankoren's Hassan Roshani. The zone- one of the few areas of cooperation between Siphria and its militaristic neighbor- allows Ankoreni corporations to hire Siphrian laborers for both light and heavy industrial work. More than 6,600 Siphrians are employed at the complex alongside roughly 150 Ankorenis.

Heskîf governorate is also claimed by the so-called "Union of Nautasian Islamic Republics" as "Marvdasht, Pasdan".

Destura has been unable to confirm what caused the outbreak of the riots, but there are claims that the riot began with a dispute between Siphrian textile workers and their Ankoreni overseers over alleged non-payment of wages and arbitrary docking of pay. It is believed that the seizure of the industrial zone by its workers occurred within less than an hour of the initial dispute, however. The hostage-takers have also reportedly moved to barricade roads and railroads leading into the industrial zone, potentially to hamper Siphrian or Ankoreni troops attempting to free the hostages.

At present, the hostage-takers have not presented a list of demands. However, the reported grievances of workers at Heskîf could potentially provide insight into what they might demand. Over the past few years, former employees at the Heskîf industrial zone complained of low wages, long working hours, and verbal abuse by Ankoreni staff. There have also been allegations that working conditions in the industrial zone are poor, and potentially violate Siphrian laws regarding employee safety; however, a 2014 investigation by the government of President Seyfedînê Mistewfî reportedly found no evidence to support these claims.

Recent confrontations between Ankoren and Siphria might also have contributed to the crisis, notes Professor Evdulhelîm Bedirxan of Soreklî University. "Ankoreni belligerence towards Siphria, and Ankoreni support for terrorist cells within Siphria, has led not only to a hardening of relations between the two countries but also to the hardening of Siphrian public opposition against Ankoren. This became particularly pronounced after the Qataniyah attack, which continues to echo in the minds of many Siphrians," he explained, referencing the murder of 184 people by Ankoreni-backed militants at a government-run boarding school in Qataniyah. 161 of the dead were students between 8 and 18 years of age. "With tensions rising high, it's quite conceivable that even a minor dispute could have turned into a violent confrontation.

It has been reported that President Selîm Helebceyî has ordered the Siphrian Baha'i Armed Forces to advance on the joint industrial zone. There are multiple military facility bases in or near the city of Heskîf, due to repeated Ankoreni threats towards the city, which should allow for the rapid deployment of troops to the area. It is unclear if these troops will be focused primarily upon ending the hostage crisis, or on preventing Ankoreni forces from assaulting Siphria in response; it is also unclear what means they might be authorized to go to in the name of ending the situation.

Neither the Siphrian government nor the Ankoreni embassy in Siphria would respond when asked for comment by Destura.

150 UNIR nationals seized by terrorists at the Marvdasht Industrial Zone
State President Volkan demands immediate action, while saying "if it ends in a massacre, we will hold the Siphrian government responsible."

State President Volkan claimed the terrorists were "radicalised" by lies against the Union.

The situation in Marvdasht in Siphria has been declared a “disgrace” by State President Evren Volkan. Speaking at a live press conference, he said that the Supreme Leadership was fully aware of the situation and is demanding immediate action by the Siphrian government. “We want our people returned immediately, the Siphrians must act now. This terrorist incident shames Siphria and the Union” he said. At least 150 UNIR nationals are being held by gunmen inside the Marvdasht Industrial Zone.

Over 100 UNIR citizens have been taken captive by their workers at the Marvdasht Industrial Zone, after rioting over fictitious claims of abuse and docking of pay. It is not known if any have been harmed or murdered, but the terrorists have issued unacceptable demands.

Speaking at the press conference, State President Volkan said, “these individuals have undoubtedly been radicalised by the stream of lies and false-accusations made against the Union by elements in the Siphrian government. I will say that if this ends in a complete failure and massacre of our citizens, we will hold the Siphrian government responsible.”

“The demands they sent to us, are ridiculous and clearly the work of uneducated and ill-advised minds. We demand immediate action to secure their release and immediate return to the Union. The Siphrian military has made moves towards the area, we are pleased with this, but we want immediate efforts to release made” he said further.

The Marvdasht Industrial Zone is shared between the Union and Siphria, established in 2001 under State President Hassan Roshani and Siphrian President Şehram Esîrî as means of promoting cooperation, economic development and closer ties. The 150 business managers from the Union are employees of the State General Industrial Corporation. SGIC has since identified all members of staff present at the industrial site and has informed their families.

The Zone which has seen consistent profit for over a decade, has been a success story not found anywhere else in Nautasia. The Zone, has succeeded in propagating warm relations between employer and employee, with the people working at the zone, maintaining friendships despite the efforts of malicious and pro-imperialist elements in Siphria.

The Union has not yet made any physical moves to intervene in the situation, despite reports on social media of tanks, jeeps and soldiers moving westward through Pasdan.

“We have not made any moves, we have no need. The Siphrian government is charged with security of the industrial zone, not the Union. This is their responsibility, in more than just that way” the State President said.
Supreme Cleric Ayatollah Ali Khorsani has for his part, urged the nation to pray for the safe return of the 150 hostages. Speaking on state television after the State President’s appearance, he said, “we must all pray now. Be we Muslim, Druze or Christian, we must pray. These people are innocent of the sad lies put forward by the terrorists. We want them to return home now, unharmed and free” he said.

According to Siphrian media reports, the workers took to violence in response to false claims of abuse, docking of pay, pay freezes and poor working conditions.

“I do not know who has been spreading these lies, but the industrial zone is not seeing and has not seen this kind of treatment. The workers are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve, it is a fine economic machine” the State President said also.

The General Intelligence Directorate has reported that many of the workers in recent months have been showing “signs of radicalisation, though whether it is gross Siphrian ultranationalism or Baha’i extremism it is difficult to say” its spokesman said.

More as the story develops.

REPORT: KHOKARSA AND GUADEC SEEKING REGIME CHANGE IN KUNDALATUNA
BOMBSHELL REPORT BY NATIONAL SECURITY DIRECTORATE FINDS CONFEDERATE REPUBLICS ARE 'COERCING' MILITARY AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS TO SEEK REGIME CHANGE IN KIOUELU

BY: Julio Yejide, staff writer, syndicated host, and columnist | Thursday 16 November, 2017 19:48 (KST) | To share this article, click here.

National Security Director Dkembe Tusawo announcing the report to the public.
KIOELU -- A bombshell report by the National Security Directorate appears to directly implicate the Confederate Republics of Khokarsa and Guadec in foreign meddling in the internal affairs of the Federal Republic. In the study, a roughly 100 page document of facts, figures, and communiques that the National Security Directorate (NSD) has gleaned from intrastate channels, members of the Confederal Senate, numerous aides to the Confederate President, as well as military officials on both sides plot what has been described as an 'illegal coup d'eat, and a hostile takeover of our government' by the experts within the NSD.

'We have significant proof of the Confederate Republics not only supplying weapons to rebels of the so-called Kundalatunan Federation,' National Security Director Dkembe Tusawo told the public in a press conference today. 'But also that they [the Confederate Republics] were conspiring and colluding with members of our own government in order to enact an illegal coup d'etat, take over our government with hostility, and destroy our established democratic institutions.'

The report finds that dozens of high-ranking officials within both the military were being actively coerced by the Confederate Republics with bribes and other forms of corrupt payments to act as 'hostile elements' within the country and eventually turn control of the country to a Confederate-backed rebel group.

According to the report, the 'hostile elements' seeking regime change sought "arms, equipment, and vehicles" from Khokarsa and Guadec, which they would then use to "move on Kiouelu in order to restore order and unity" by "declaring a Kundalatunan Federation, aligning ourselves with the Federation-rebels, and seeking recognition from the Confederate Republics."

While Director Tusawo did not get into specifics on the government reaction, he did say that "the appropriate apparatus have been made aware of this information and will be taking the necessary precautions."

The report is expected to cause significant upset to the administration of President Abasse, who had been using his recent expansion of relations in Nautasia to build up support from his government. It's also expected to cause an uproar at the upcoming annual meeting of the Kunalatunan National Congress, with many party members already seeking the resignation of President Abasse and a more determined and independent domestic and foreign policy.

Emmanuel Dayo-García, leader of the Oko faction of the KNC that opposes President Abasse, claims that this is "proof that [President] Abasse is a weak leader who is incapable of garnering respect and support in Nautasia. We need a leader who will lead the nation, not one who will simply let Kundalatuna be run over by our neighbors and rebellious bandits."

The Office of the President did not respond to our requests for comment.

Revolutionary Labour Federation: “We are in solidarity with the workers at Heskif”
ASHURAGAR - The Revolutionary Labour Federation, Pisdara’s largest trades union, officially declared its support for the rioting workers that the joint Siphrian-UNIR industrial zone in Heskif today, stating on their website that “the conditions at the shops are known to be despicable and unhealthy, and that the workers are justified in striking over the loss of the wages that keep them alive and the lack of respect by both the governments and overseers involved in the enterprise.” The statement was also clear to place significant blame on both the governments of SIphria and the UNIR, the former for bringing in armed forces to break up the riot, and the latter for “cruel workplace standards, authoritarian practices, and a list of grievances we are sure the elites in Estanban are surely aware of.”

The statement was also read by deputy Inanna Ku-Asharu, who is affiliated with the union, in the Legislature, where she emphasized the role of the UNIR in the industrial zone. Although she stated that “I hope that the 150 Ankoreni citizens are returned safely back to their homes”, she mentioned that the situation would have not occurred if “Ankoren was not the economic imperialist it claims it is not. Here we see their true face, a face wrinkled with utter disrespect for other nations and even their own workers and toilers. This is Islamic collectivism at its core, a system that takes away the soul and replaces it with utter despair and hopelessness. And they they say that they rally against the capitalists, as they enter in Maziaristan, into Siphria, into Pisdara and reap the benefits and leave us nothing. They yell “justice!” but their “justice” is a justice that protects the oligarchs and the generals from answering to the people that actually matter.”

Deputy Ku-Asharru was bluntly interrupted during her speech by hardliner Hanish Rabi-Sillashu of the RUI, who called her statements “lies” and the Revolutionary Labour Federation a “syndicalist rabble-rousing operation”. He also attack Ku-Asharru directly, calling her uneducated and demanding that the 42-year old historian “put on a veil or something”. Rabi-Sillashu was backed up by ally Eketanna Jabar’s internal faction of orthodox Islamic collectivists, as well as some of the party’s moderates, in jeering and yelling slurs at Ku-Asharru as she was simultaneously treated to a standing ovation from the Socialist Farmers’ and Forward, Pisdara! groupings. Consul Shadar Kabari (RUI), who said nothing during the session, was quick to state that the outcry was not over sweatshop conditions, but “Mrs. Ku-Asharru’s lies about the UNIR operations in Heskif, which are far from sweatshop conditions.” The remark could be seen as a way to clarify the RUI’s (often derided as populist) economic policies, which campaigned in 2016 on the platform of workers’ rights and nationalization.

In response to the situation in Heskif, the Revolutionary Labour Federation has called for the end to sweatshops in Pisdara, and has stated it is currently in the process of creation a public petition to the sent to the legislative committee on Labour and Environment, a move that the Socialist Farmers’ Party has also confirmed to be supporting.

Robert Boissieu breaks from Reform, re-founds Liberal Party

Can a newly re-founded Liberal Party break
the disenchantment with the political centre
in Pisdara?

RAISINVILLE - In yet another obstacle for the embattled centre-right since their defeat in the 2016 legislative election, former deputy Robert Boissieu stated that he will be splitting from the Pisdari Reform Party in order to re-found and lead his Liberal Party into the local elections of 2018. Mr. Boissieu led the Liberal Party of Pisdara from July to September of 2016, until the party merged with the ideologically similar Progressives and Democrats to form the Reform Party. The discovery of Loupgate in October 2016 and the party’s indictment in the scandal essentially ended the new group’s chances for continued relevance, finishing in eighth place with three percent of the vote and losing all representation in the Legislature.

Almost a year later, the party has been basically silent, save for the discussion on nationalization in April. Under this climate, Boissieu proclaimed that “the project with Reform was dead” and that he was to re-found the Liberals in time for a “breakthrough and resurgence” in 2018. “The new Liberal Party”, stated Boissieu, “is to fight for freedom, a thriving economy, and a proper democracy under the free association.” Revealing the party’s logo and new platform (which emphasizes a more centrist and liberal approach) in Raisinville’s Centre for Aininian Culture, Boissieu is optimistic. “It has been almost a full year since the last election, I think the time has passed that emotions are now again calming and we can see a resurgence in more moderate forces.”

Khëyyang Mausoleum Ablaze
Suspected Republican Rebels Arrested

Tragedy struck the city of Khëyyang this morning as the Malakï Mausoleum suddenly erupted in blaze, quickly consuming the invaluable complex as bystanders watched in awe and terror.

Thus far, at least 35 confirmed dead had been reported, including 3 firefighters and 5 workers. To the horror and sorrow of the city, at least 20 of the dead had been confirmed to belong to a parochial primary school, who were on a field trip to the mausoleum at the time.

According to eyewitnesses account and local law enforcement statement, up to five explosions occurred inside the confines of the downtown mausoleum between the first and second quarter of Zï period (0900-0930), setting the mostly-wood structure on fire that quickly spread across the entire compound. Despite the best effort by the valiant caretakers and firefighters, the inferno proved resilient to their attempts to extinguish it.

The cause of this unusual fire was soon discovered, as signs of deliberate arson was discovered in both the western hall and the eastern hall. Believed to be the sources of the fire, forensic specialists summoned there identified traces of combustion additives and explosives among the charred wreckage.

Investigating it as a deliberate case of arson, local law enforcement and the Imperial Censorate soon traced the evidence to a treacherous group of republican rebels, who was linked to several politically-motivated arson across the country during the reign of Emperor Kwanghwa. At least three individuals had been arrested for possible connection to the group, with one killed in a local restaurant resisting arrest.

It is speculated that those proven guilty by association with the rebellious group and the arson might be executed by burning, as per traditional punishment for arsonists. However, the government has yet to issue official statements regarding the prosecution.

Traffic in and out of Khëyyang will be restricted for the duration of investigation. Checkpoints maintained by local military garrison might require commuters to present identification document and reason of travel.

ANKORENI OPERATIVES CAPTURED IN HESKÎF
Siphrian soldiers captured Ankoreni special operatives near industrial zone;
experts say Ankoreni attempt to free hostages could collapse negotiations

Image

November 20, 2017 | Heskîf, Siphria | The Siphrian Baha'i Armed Forces has declared that it captured eleven members of Ankoren's Takavaran special operatives service near the Heskîf Joint Industrial Zone, part of an apparent attempt by the so-called "Union of Nautasian Islamic Republics" to free the 133 Ankoreni citizens who have been held as hostages by disgruntled employees for slightly over a week.

A formal statement from the Siphrian Baha'i Armed Forces was released earlier today recounting the incident. "Soldiers of the Siphrian Baha'i Armed Forces noticed a disturbance north of the Heskîf Joint Industrial Zone at roughly 2:15 AM this morning. Given the critical and delicate nature of the situation in Heskîf, troops were dispatched immediately to investigate and prevent any developments that might imperil ongoing negotiations," the statement declares. "Siphrian forces identified trespassing Ankoreni soldiers at approximately 2:25 AM, and demanded that they surrender themselves into Siphrian custody immediately. The Ankoreni forces refused the demand and opened fire; Siphrian forces opened fire in retaliation."

The statement notes that the trespassing Ankoreni troops surrendered shortly thereafter after suffering two casualties. In total, the statement concludes, there are eleven surviving Ankoreni soldiers who have been taken prisoner by the Siphrian Baha'i Armed Forces. After capture, the Ankoreni soldiers admitted to being members of the Takavaran, Ankoren's special operations service.

Siphrian laborers at the industrial zone took Ankoreni overseers hostage on November 11, citing substandard working conditions, docking of pay, arbitrary firing, and physical abuse as grievances. Former employees at the Heskîf industrial zone have previously complained of low wages, long hours, unsafe conditions, and repeated abuse by Ankoreni staff; while a 2014 investigation by the government of President Seyfedînê Mistewfî found no evidence to support these claims, the government of President Selîm Helebceyî apparently suspects that the Mistewfî administration attempted to cover up evidence of abuse in the interest of preserving Siphrian-Ankoreni interactions.

The Heskîf Joint Industrial Zone, located near the Siphrian-Ankoreni border, was established in 2001 by Siphria's Şehram Esîrî and Ankoren's Hassan Roshani. The zone allows Ankoreni corporations to hire Siphrian laborers for both light and heavy industrial work. More than 6,600 Siphrians are employed at the complex; it has come under fire, however, as a potential conduit for Ankoreni propaganda into Siphria, and as a potential way for Ankoren to advance its supposed claim to the city of Heskîf.

Since the start of the crisis, the Siphrian Baha'i Armed Forces has been engaged in negotiations to free the hostages, though progress has apparently been slow. General Îsmaîl Cezerî, who is also Minister of Labor, reportedly told fellow cabinet ministers that the hostage-takers were "not convinced of Siphria's ability to bring about the changes they desire... through negotiation with Ankoren".

Some experts fear that Ankoren's attempt to free the hostages could result in the total collapse of negotiations now, however. "The hostage-takers were already doubtful of Siphria's ability to convince the Ankorenis to bend, which was slowing down talks immensely," says political analyst Tewfîk Hesanî. "Now that Ankoren has resorted to open violent action, it's likely that negotiations will collapse entirely, meaning Ankoren is now farther from freeing the hostages than it was before."

There are also potentially some fears that Ankoren could respond aggressively in the wake of its failed attempt. Reşîd Nesrî, a professor of political science, tells Welêt that there have been reports of Ankoren massing troops in Pasdan, and that this could be the prelude of open military aggression or even invasion of Siphria by the Ankorenis. "The Ankoreni regime is very erratic, very militaristic, and generally unpleasant to have as a neighbor," Nesrî warned. "We can't ignore the possibility that they will respond to this with a declaration of war- and I'm sure that the Siphrian government is well aware of this."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the bodies of the deceased Ankoreni soldiers will be returned to Ankoren immediately for identification and burial. The surviving soldiers, meanwhile, "will be returned after the end of the current crisis in Heskîf".

As of publishing time, the Ankoreni embassy in Akrê was unavailable for comment.

BREAKING: Protesters attack Sakar Naval Station, crowd detained by Aininian military, leaving five dead

Image
The Sakar Naval Station, including the frigate Bonsecours, was attacked by a group of
protesters affiliated with the hardliner faction of the RUI

SAKAR - Chaos broke out in Sakar around 5:50 PM tonight, as around 110 protesters broke through the entrance to the Aininian Armed Forces-run Sakar Naval Station. The riot, which comes after almost continuous protesting against the Aininian base for two weeks, saw two Aininian sailors and three protesters dead, and countless others wounded. The protesters, mainly members of the hardline faction of the Islamic People’s Movement spurred on by anger towards the Aininian military presence on the islands, pushed forward from Barage-Si Street after, according to some accounts, members of the National Guard began to beat the crowd, forcing it to move closer towards the base. No sources have yet stated when or how the large group of protesters broke into the naval station, although it is assumed they were able to overpower the guards at the main entrance.

Once inside, the crowd began to make its way towards the frigate Bonsecours and the armoury, where two protesters were able to secure firearms. The remainder of the crowd either tried to commandeer the Bonsecours from its small on-deck crew of fifty, or continued to riot and loot the base itself. A few minutes after the fighting began, some reported that the Aininian naval flag was taken down from the ship’s mast, and an oversized flag of the Islamic People’s Movement was unfurled on the frigate starboard side. During the initial break-in and riot by the protesters, two Aininian sailors and two protesters were killed during the action.

By 6:45PM, the naval station was surrounded by both Sakar police and the town’s garrison of the National Gendarmerie, who were able to enter the station and help the base’s crew re-take control of first the station, before successfully pushing back rioters trying to take full control of the Bonsecours, placing the remaining rioters in the ship’s hull, where they are currently being held. One protester was killed during the push on the ship, being shot by the National Gendarmerie. Police stations on northern Pisdara Island, and even in Ashuragar, have been placed on alert, and are expected to begin transporting rioters detained in the Bonsecours to prisons in the region. The Aininian Navy has been informed of the incident, and has in response placed all nearby ships on high alert and have banned any docking at Sakar for the near future. The Pisdari government was also informed of the riot during an emergency meeting at the Consulate’s apartments. Deputy Eketanna Jabar, who initiated the protest after a speech in the Legislature two weeks ago, has be unable to reach for comment.

OPINION — The Technocrat Prince
Image

Within Akai, there remains only really one glimmer of hope for reform towards a direction away from its totalitarian status quo in the higher levels of Akai government and that is the Kwokmjinpha or the Kghuknunlhrah. The term roughly means National People Clique, and ultimately their main focuses lie with the people and the nation. The name is derived from a memorial to the throne where Kghuknunlhrah is brought up as a possible final reformation of government, “to complete the works of the Xionghe Ditu”. In reality, like most things in Akai politics this a faux flattery.

The Kghuknunlhrah ultimately desire several reforms in Akai society, which might actually bring it in a direction more palatable for anyone outside of Xiaodong, Tuthina and Tinza. Its main goals are the institution of a government which does not engage in outrageous abuses and to instead formalise the supposed traditional duties and obligations which were supposed to have prevented the rise of someone like Jieke. Human rights in Akai have always been widely ignored ever since the death of Ditu Sojin, but it had become dramatically worse under Ditu Xionghe. His explicitly totalitarian Thastfung Reforms greatly modified the nature of the Akai state, making it nearly all-encompassing and having some degree of involvement in all life in Akai however subtle. Nearly every human right conceivable is violated in some way while the state remains centred around the institution of the monarchy, with the worship of the Ditu becoming mandatory across the nation. The Kghukunlhrah or KKH only exist in a non-official sense, its members frequently being fairly protected aristocrats or one or two corporate leaders. They try to avoid provoking the wrath of the state where possible, playing a long game.

To this end, they have continued in their subtle efforts to reshape the Akai state. In place of the current overgrown bureaucracy, they want a constitutionally restricted civil service which is under the control of a tricameral parliament. They wish to balance all parties out equally, having one house be elected, one hereditary and one appointed. A mechanism to placate the many vested interests of Akai society, such as the aristocracy who dominate the bureaucratic, military and corporate spheres, the increasingly wealthy “peasant” classes whose growing loyalty to Xuanjing transcends old aristocratic boundaries and the state itself.

The Prince himself is a curious character, the youngest son out of four and merely is a half-brother to the late Xionghe being born to Youjia’s late second consort Qixi Cangbai. His siblings were all varying degrees of gifted, with Xionghe being easily the most capable of the late Ditu’s children while Princes Yanfeng and Qiang proved themselves capable officers and Princess Pingan a crafty political operator. This left the socially crude and bookish Prince Sanfu more preoccupied with not trying to compete with them, instead directing his efforts to economic and bureaucratic matters. This was an area the mathematically minded and shrewd Prince thrived in — being increasingly involved in the world of economics with him eventually being appointed at first Director of Currency then arising to the rank of Minister of Revenue. He used this position to help dramatically adjust the economy of Akai, refining many of his elder brother’s reforms to end state monopolies through the cautious privatisation of state assets and break up of state monopolies. His largest works, however, were the relaxing of many regulations regarding the functions of business; destroying a hodgepodge of old feudal traditions and wartime military laws and instead embracing a technocratic quasi-corporatist regime.

He took on an increasingly prominent role in government as the economic boom of the 90s and early 20s continued, eventually taking the place of Heng Longba Jieke’s long-standing ally as Grand Preceptor. From this he used his position to make further economic reforms, refining much of Jieke’s proposals in the field as well as to demonstrate his diplomatic acumen, which he had been developing for years since. He was responsible for the 2004 Xiaodong-Akai Trade Agreement, something which more or less protected both their trade interests while increasing mutual access to one another’s economies. This is further mirrored by his efforts to build ties between Akai and the Union of Ankoren and is successor the Union of Nautasian Islamic Republics. He conducted several foreign visits, particularly serving as the Akai representative to its formation. However, the Kghuknunlhrah generally are much less cynical in their approach to Akai’s foreign policy than the old regime of Jieke. They merely want to encourage political stability in the East Borean region, one prone to fluctuations in power often resulting in thousands and potentially millions dead.

His ascent to serve as regent alongside his half-sister and niece Grand Dihei Tingzi, however, was a rise far too soon for the Prince, with Jieke replacing many of his allies and instead placing in him a position of prominence which isolated him. Given the newfound hostility of the Grand Conclave Sanfu and his movement are cautiously operating reforms, whose actions and discussion about them by political insiders suggests a more radical solution is needed to end the deadlock of the state. But in the meantime, the technocrat Prince’s main proposal as of late is to implement a form of antitrust measure to prevent the corporate cliques from forming monopolies and to break up the existing Oligopolies who the KKH regard as political enemies due to their ties to many of Sanfu’s opponents. It also creates opportunities for Sanfu’s preferred corporate groups, who are backers of his vision and are often far younger than many of the more entrenched cliques. Overall if successful, the Prince and Regent will dramatically strengthen his position yet if it fails it will be one step back for those in Akai to receiving any improvements in the state of their human rights.

Continents, entire nations dissapear from collective consciousness as some gods depart and the rest declare "lore coherence"
Religious groups going mad, Tastanism and Koschunism memberships at all time high

Misna - The whole world (or at least, some parts of it) is going hysterically insane after a bunch of countries (and a landmass) suddenly disappear. Or something. I don't know. what the fuck am I writing.

Numerous people have been sent to mental facilities, screaming, flailing, speaking tongues, biting, pinching, tennis of all sorts, and singing wonderful soprano ranges after being traumatized by the still unexplained (and hard to understand) event. According to absolutely trusted medical experts, the event is merely a case of mass hysteria, though the majority of the victims we managed to have talked to (without getting gnawed at), they seem to remember glimpses and experiences of countries that they know existed for some time, a thing we deduced to be a sort of Mandela effect on a massive scale.

"I KNOW THERE'S A NAMOR IN THERE SOMEWHERE, MAN!" one Luziycan shrieked in front of us. "YOU CAN'T HIDE THE TRUTH FROM US! WE AREN'T BOREANS! THE DETENTE! NANTAI! THE WARS, MAN! NAMOR EXISTS! THEY EXIST! THEY EXIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTT!" he said before being taken away on a straitjacket for lobotomy. We didn't really know why he did the snake hissing thing in the end.

"I could've sworn there was an Austrosia and Alemannia. The Internationale is (or was) a legitimate force. It couldn't just evaporated from thin air complete with the lack of records. I can't be the only one who knows this... right? Right? Right??????" Kagana Pira, a union officer in Ostrinubia said to us before being taken away by PAFUCO soldiers and breaking our phones for "security concerns".

"It's unbelievable that people everywhere are starting to see it now. We aren't really in control, people!" Says whatshisname, that guy who thinks there's been a fourth wall in this universe the whole time. "Want proof? Here. Pavonistade has been an island before. I grew up knowing that. Everyone I know grew up knowing that. And the universe decides it's not?! This is not cool, man." ahahaha holy fuck what a weirdo

The events have been seen as a divine trick, like seven billion Loki clones collectively stabbing the planet with their magic lance. With this, many among the hysteria have entered into a fit of nihilism and antitheism. Various apocalyptic cults begin to spring up, while tried and tested already established ones, like Koschunism, are rising in numbers due to the promise that they can not only harm god, but eat him. Alive. The high priest in Razaria was fuming with anger on the sudden rise of willing converts, shouting about how "they don't understand".

Also wait wasn't the title supposed to use the Senrian alphabet

BREAKING: PROMINENT MP OF AL NAHDA PARTY GUNNED DOWN IN AD DAGA
Al Nahda MP Bishr Ali al-Bashar fatally shot by terrorist gunmen outside home; terror cells aligned with Brotherhood of Muslims claims responsibility; Ad Daga police report manhunt underway

Image
Ad Daga police and security services are investigating the murder as terrorism.
AD DAGA - A series of gunshots rang out tonight in the Salaam abd-ar-Khan neighborhood of Ad Daga as three members of a terrorist cell opened fire upon MP Bishr Ali al-Bashar, shooting him fatally, before speeding away. The shooting, which marks the first terrorist attack in the capital since the 07 September bombing of the UNIR embassy, is the first attack by suspected Islamist groups against both the Al Nahda Party and the Hunawiyan political system.

According to eyewitness accounts, a blue sedan -- with the front and rear right passenger windows rolled down -- pulled up next to MP al-Bashar as he walked outside of his Ad Daga home at around 5:29pm (HST). Two masked men then drew pistols and fired upon MP al-Bashar, striking him multiple times, in what some have referred to as a drive-by killing, before speeding away. Emergency aid was quickly rendered to MP al-Bashar, who was believed to have been struck at least four times, by eyewitnesses. However, his wounds would prove fatal, as he was declared deceased by paramedics upon arriving at the hospital at 5:52pm (HST).

The attack comes as many within Parliament seek to curb the rise of homegrown Islamism and Islamist groups in Hunawiyah. Multiple bills have thus far been introduced and filed in Parliament that aim to enforce state influence over mosques, creating a registry of mosques approved for state backing, and curbing the reach of what the bill refers to as 'radical and subversive groups that seek to utilize sectarianism and division to further an anti-state political agenda.' MP al-Bashar was one of the bill's sponsors in Parliament.

According to Muammar Hussein, the Police Commissioner of the Ad Daga Municipal Police Department, as well as Imran al-Hasan, the Minister of National Security, the shooting was an "act of domestic terror, aimed at intimidating Members of Parliament from continuing to investigate the ties between sectarian political parties and terror groups."

Abdul Khaliq el-Jabara, spokesman and leader of the Hunawiyan chapter of the Brotherhood of Muslims -- Hunawiyah's largest Sunni Muslim political party and a major Islamist political party in Nautasian affairs -- and major religious figure, criticized the moves as 'clandestine' and vowed that 'the people of the Umma will resist this tyranny.' Imam el-Jabara is reportedly under investigation for potential ties to the terrorist groups in the attack.

The Brotherhood of Muslims has come under increased scrutiny in recent days as investigations have revealed the transnational party giving financial, ideological, and physical support and aid to groups such as The Caliphate, Hayat Tahrir-Islami, and Awiya al-Islam, all of which have been listed as terrorist groups by the government. It also comes as many members of the Brotherhood stage protests nationwide criticizing the government's so-called "marginalization of religious Sunni Hunawiyans."

The Sunni Wahabbist group Sayf Allah, a radical splinter group of the Brotherhood of Muslims with numerously documented ties to both Hayat Tahrir-Islami and The so-called Caliphate, has claimed responsibility for the attack. A spokesman for the group, in an audio recording released after the attack, claims that: "so long as the infidel government of el-Hatem and al-Ghouta continues to oppress the lands of the pious and pollute the Umma with their lies, we will continue our crusade against them. This is only the beginning."

Minister al-Hasan has reported that a manhunt is "underway" for the two gunmen and their accomplice and that the government was "actively considering steps to counter both Sayf Allah and other sectarian groups in Hunawiyah." The Office of the Presidency has stated that MP al-Bashar was "a trusted and valued member of the [Al Nahda] party whose death is a loss for all Hunawiyans" before extending condolences to his family and vowing that "his death at the hands of those who would seek to see our country divided amongst sectarian lines will not be forgotten and will be avenged tenfold."

More as this story develops.

BREAKING: WEEKLONG POLICE SIEGE COMES TO BLOODY END
Two assailants, three captives dead as hostages revolt and force police to move in

Via the Aininian Press Association - Two attackers and three hostages are dead after a dramatic conclusion to a weeklong siege of a police station in Carillon by Islamic Collectivist militants, bringing the death toll to seven. A third hostage-taker was detained and hospitalised at the Carillion University Medical Centre for gunshot wounds sustained in the melee. His condition is stable.

The dramatic development, which came after a week of fruitless negotiations between the attackers and the besieging security forces, occurred when several of the male hostages rose against their sword-wielding captors and attempted to overpower them. In the subsequent melee, three of the captives were killed and two others were grievously injured.

Upon hearing sounds of the struggle, police tactical teams quickly moved in, subduing an assailant in the lobby with an electroshock weapon. Officers then moved into the room where the hostages were being held, breaking down the locked door. Both attackers, who were in the process of attacking the revolting hostages, were shot dead. The identities of the terrorists are being withheld by order of the judicial police.

The siege began at around 9:15 on Saturday, a grey sedan pulled up in front of the Point-Lagrange police station, an installation of the National Police serving the oceanfront business district.

Officials confirmed that at least three officers, including the receptionist and two who had attempted to resist their assailants, had been killed in the initial assault. Seventeen people were in the police station at the time of its seizure.

Carillon, a city of 1.3 million in a region of southeastern Ainin known as the Golden Coast for its beaches and tropical vacation resorts, is the capital of Coste-Dorée province.

Before bursting into the Point-Lagrange police station, the attackers had been linked to a car-ramming attack the day before in Andregué, 100 km from Carillon. Witnesses reported a grey sedan, the same vehicle found parked outside the police station, deliberately swerving into local policeman Assistant Inspector Robert Han as he inspected traffic. Han, 43, died of his injuries despite passersby's efforts to resuscitate him.

Andregué, a resort town best known for being the birthplace of famed composer Armand Granet, is a prefecture in Coste-Dorée province's Golfe-de-Carillion region and an hour's drive away from the provincial government seat of Carillion. It is the easternmost municipality in a chain of scenic beachfront towns along Ainin's famed Golden Coast known as the Région des Giales. Notable for its golden beaches and luxury spa resorts, the Giales are a preferred tropical destination for both Aininian and international holidaymakers.

The attack is the deadliest in Ainin since the April 2015 Talon bombings, when two self-radicalised Caliphate supporters detonated bombs in separate areas of Ainin's 3rd largest city. The blasts, which occurred at the city's iconic East Gate triumphal arch and a busy intersection in the Namorese Quarter, killed 572 and injured over 1,700.

The attackers claimed affiliation to the Nautasian Freedom Defence Front, a terrorist organisation commonly known as the "Black Hand". The Front, which has strong connections with elements in the Ankoreni military, is active in Nautasia and has been reportedly responsible for a terror campaign of bombings and assassinations in Irvadistan and Mazaristan. It is also suspected of involvement in other incidents in Rifat and Hunawiyah.

Latest News: Polar Night arrives in Nunalik
The sun will not rise during the day for more than a month, plunging Nunalik into darkness

Image
Illofarqik port during the polar night
There have been scenes of both joy and sadness across Nunalik today, on the last day of light in over two months. Due to the latitude of Nunalik it does not receive sunlight during the depths of winter, because the tilt of the globe blocks it off from the sun. During this time phenomena such as the northern lights become more prominent and visible, making for some magical views. The Polar Night is a key part of Nunalikan folklore, with religious Nunalikans seeing it as a time where the great snow goose Qilak's wings cover the sun, allowing the animals some time to replenish as there is less hunting.

The time also marks the end of the Nunalikan economic year, as the lack of light and temperatures which can drop below -50 degrees Celsius make most work nigh on impossible. Required working hours drop off and people are allowed time with their families, for months without sunlight combined with hard work would be unbearable. Due to the bountiful harvests of fish leading up to the polar night there are few fears that food levels will drop below the required levels as has happened in previous years, however some foods such as salted herring are still under rationing more than usual. One change that has been made to the rationing conditions has been to coal and firewood, as trade with Cheranavia has meant that there is a surplus once industrial needs are fulfilled. The final shipment of grain from Cheranavia for the season, before the route ices up and only high-powered icebreakers are able to make the journey, have arrived in Illofarqik where they will be redistributed. While industrial and fishing sectors decline, tourism often maintains its rates as people fly in to experience the northern lights.

The last day before the polar night differs from year to year but is always a holiday so people can enjoy the last of the sun. A fireworks display in Illofarqik harbour has been organised by the municipal state council and will take place at nine tonight, once the sun has finally set. We wish all of our readers, both Nunalikan and from abroad, have a good and safe winter.
