Oh dear. Oh, Ellie Hanger... that's one for the blooper reel. The young OAS Royal center-half overhit her backpass to Shalhoub so badly that all the keeper could do was stand with his hands on his hips and watch as Aeris Cossadel latched onto it instead and literally walked it into the unprotected net. Galasgoldas Tathtauré was livid - cursing the air as the gaffe undid the 2-2 equalizer he had just struck two minutes prior. In this league, sometimes it's the slimmest of margins - like one atrocious decision - that separate the quality of a team at the top of the table (now Eastweald) from those struggling in the bottom half (like OAS Royal now). Or, more rarely, sometimes the margin between two teams is precisely zero. That's what played out in motion in Goldstaff-Crawford this week despite the added intensity from the cities' proximity in southwest Numenvernien Fief. Suddenly-boisterous Crawford City FC supporters came out of the woodwork and flooded into Goldstaff's Bostitch Lane for the two neighbors' first ever Härlighet Ligan meeting, but left it frustrated as Goldstaff City's back five, anchored by Lind Fontaine, kept a great shape and limited Alcouin and Stabb's chances. 0-0.

Real Azuris 0–1 Olask Islanders
One of the surprise feelgood stories of the first couple months: Olask Islanders actually looking like a pretty decent team. But a trip to Estadio MasseMord to face Real Azuris would surely cut Johannes Lundblade's upstarts back down to size, right? Nope! Olask pack in and bog down Azuris with numbers behind the ball, and their defiance grew stronger the longer the match went on without conceding. Real's young attacking corps just didn't have the experience or savvy needed to break down such a parked bus. Despite over 70% Azurian possession, the 0-0 scoreline remained intact until the third minute of stoppage time. Then, Chrysanthe Scafidis pounced on the rebound of Ozuna's parried save (his only one of the game) and almost broke the net with her powerful putback! Stunningly, the Islanders made out like bandits with all three points! A lot of pissed faces in Azuris. The upset allowed Stoneshore United to leapfrog the defending champs into second with yet another win, Aidan Andela repeatedly exploiting Keenan Athletic's high back line.
The other Uniteds, the ones from Ramusok, haven't had quite as jolly of a time this season - but not for lack of effort from Adrián Del Toro. Invigorated by freezing temperatures up in the northern peninsula, the Cenian had his most tenacious performance yet, making plays left right and center against Trefta. Unfortunately, his teammates were not quite up to his level. Del Toro grew visibly frustrated after William Stone blasted a sitter over the bar in the second half and threw a snowball at his striker, earning a comical yellow card. The wasteful Blues ultimately had to settle for a point against nominally inferior opposition. Tajo Carr-Ponce headed a perfect Del Toro free kick in under the crossbar in the 90th minute, but it was whistled back by a foul away from the ball. You KNOW Del Toro wanted to throw a snowball at the referee this time. In the opposite corner of the country, however, a different defender's near-identical late heroics did stand. It was Jefferson, for Eastweald! The Valladar enforcer used his formidable physique to outfight no fewer than three Crawford players to Peter Morrison's short delivery and scrap a stoppage time equalizer on the road. "Every point is crucial in a title fight," Jefferson crowed post-match. "You just have to want it more than your competitor."
Finally, the weekend concluded with the top-flight debut of the "Fight for the Flatlands", the nickname given to the under-appreciated Samaj FC vs. Helfin Fief rivalry. They're the biggest clubs from Culmarland and Helfin Fiefs, respectively, which together comprise a region of Cosumar known as the Western Plains (AKA Flatlands). Formerly one of the premier Sekundar Ligan derbies, this is the first time the two clubs have met in Härlighet Ligan play. It was a fun atmosphere to behold at Scandrick's Stadium under the night lights as Helfin Fief's local support showed up in force and unveiled a tifo commemorating past triumphs over Samaj. Unfortunately, this would not be counted among them. Maxine Edelgrau sent the place into a frenzy by getting low to block Vega Zeale-Riddick's penalty kick on the stroke of half time, but VZR would get another chance in the 66th minute and would not miss from the spot twice.

This was a crucial moment for the Collette Sade era at Real Azuris. Already three points behind first-place upstarts Stoneshore United, a loss to the Greys to fall even further behind could be a critical blow to her young team's morale and hopes of a title defense. It quickly became apparent, however, that failure wasn't in the cards as soon as Sandra Sybill and Bryger Tidesson combined for a slashing 3rd minute opener. Sade had the stand-up response she was looking for! Her Breakers picked Stoneshore apart in the first half, mounting a 4-0 lead. Adrian Lindberg played a big role with several sublime deliveries in from the left (even having one skip all the way through for a goal), a wizardlike Mbdiai Akarenaa controlled the midfield and, in the back, Kurt Wolff bullied Yuanchiki Larrimbe out of the game. It was a terrific performance for an unusually desperate Azuris, but it doesn't change much for Stoneshore United. They shouldn't lose heart - they're still in rarified air. In fact, when you look at the top of the table after Week 12, the first thing you notice is the two *distinctly* unsexy clubs right there alongside Eastweald and Real Azuris. The other being the Olask Islanders, of course. They strung together their third consecutive impressive win, a thorough defeat of Ramusok United on the strength of Hera Poxay's workmanlike brace. Think Gareth Bournemouth is uncomfortable yet? If there's any consolation for the troubled Ram Utd manager, it's that his team isn't the worst in the capital. AC Holmenkollen are absolutely dire. They're at risk of being completely cut adrift at the bottom after being humiliated by Stiin Siorrha'Asione this week. In more ways than one. After the Farf winger casually jinked into the box past Thelonious Grandstaber and slid the ball over to a wide-open Anders Engström to put Mallox up 3-0, he decided he was done with this game. Done with this opponent. They weren't worthy of Siorrha'Asione. So he simply walked off the pitch and back to the dressing room without being subbed off. In the 58th minute.

"If there's any consolation for the troubled Ram Utd manager, it's that his team isn't the worst in the capital." Well, that's awkward. Nevermind. Holmenkollen actually win at Fire River Arena in a Minor Ramusok Derby. Stiin's insult seemed to light a fire under Holmenkollen and they somehow keep United at bay despite many chances created by Adrián del Toro and Lyyli Silvén. Then it was, guess who, Felix Keller who slotted a diagonal shot beyond Lilly Kearney for the win in the 72nd minute. Chants of "Bournemouth Out!" break out throughout Fire River for the first time in the winding minutes. The Nepharim says his team were the better side and deserved to win afterwards, but the fans aren't hearing that.
In Stoneshore, the aforementioned ugly ducklings of this year's title race face off and compromise with mutually-satisfactory draw. 6"5 Stoneshore defender Willem Maersk headed in yet another goal (he's actually their joint-third leading scorer) but Ilana Way matched it for Olask Islanders with a clever finish after being played in behind Maersk by Will Couturiaux's perfect between-the-lines pass. As for the teams actually expected to last in the title race, Real Azuris are showing vulnerability with only one win from their last five while Eastweald are simply...showing off. They've scored five goals twice in a row. Now, putting up numbers against Helfin Fief and Keenan Athletic isn't necessarily impressive, but what IS impressive is the way they're doing it. By playing unselfishly and flexing some serious depth. NINE different scorers have contributed to the ten goals. Starters and subs, strikers and defenders, veterans and teenagers. Monica Brightwater has Eastweald looking like a real team.
Elsewhere, young Anglatian phenom Allie Vacek has come alive for Klyde and scored in the last three matches, but this week's sour result against Helfin Fief highlights the Doves' instability in the back. It was way too easy for Mauricio Larkspur to blaze through the heart of the Klyde defense, round Lind Pressinger and tap home. In Pelethas, the Miners stopped their recent bleeding with a pulsating 3-2 win over Cassandra City, highlighted by a delightful one-two between Charlie Alotic and Rowan Varghese that resulted in the Mercedinian blasting a winner through the arms of Calogero Metz.

Kim Coultan, Player of the Week, take a bow. The Schottian is already a legend in Crawford for her dedication over the years, with comments like "We don't deserve her" and "Hail our goddess!" topping almost every Coultan article or highlight. But this might've been her best performance EVER in the teal, burgundy and gold shirt. With her side down 3-1 to Mallox at the half and the home support restless, Coultan simply took the fuck over. She was all over the place, making a difference from all areas on the pitch. In under 30 second half minutes, Coultan scored a hat trick (48', 56', 75') and also drew a penalty that Kevin Stabb put away for another. Amethyst Fegelein was nearly speechless after the match. "All I know is that we were down 3-1, then Kim Coultan happened, and then we were up 5-3."
While other storylines and dramas have hogged the headlines, FC Samotath have quietly been on the rebound as of late. After beating Coultan's team last week and Cassandra City this week, that misfiring start is now squarely in the rearview mirror. 18-year-old striker Zak Nyström finding his confidence has been the catalyst of the turnaround. The lad has stepped up with some big goals - none bigger than this week's bullet header off a Vorobyov cross to silence The Amphitheatre in the 72nd minute. And amidst it all, Olask Islanders and Stoneshore United somehow just keep winning. Olask came out on top in a fierce striker duel between Chrysanthe Scafidis and Vega Zeale-Riddick. Both women notched elegant braces, but the difference was that Olask had hard-nosed fullback Louelle Rennold, who broke the tie by polishing off a corner scrum in the box. Stoneshore, on the other hand, added to Ramusok United's miseries with Tégen Na'Tarejen's absolute worldy from the top left corner of the box. Because why not. Gareth Bournemouth was sacked precisely 25 minutes after the final whistle. The fans probably want him to take profligate strikers Stone and Jago with him.

Assistant coach Kirum Mortonsson, who spent nine years as a defender for Ramusok United in some of their best years, has taken over as caretaker manager for the club. But the "new manager bump" was nowhere to be found as Rachel Del Arro (two goals) and Samaj FC ran the Blues off the pitch at Stadion Jagäre. Andrew Arrowsword delivered Real Azuris a huge win in their top-of-the-table clash at Old Weldenskirgen, lifting Tidesson's through ball over Esteban Hernandez with a delicate touch in the 93rd minute. It's tight as a tick again in the top five! Goldstaff City aren't in the top five but they actually have the best defense, statistically at least, so far. The reasons for the unit's success were on display this week as they maintained a clean sheet against fellow western club Olask Islanders. Young goalkeeper Lone Va'Nega stole the show with his bold and decisive sweeping style, taking the ball off the feet of a charging Scafidis multiple times. Out wide, older Vloo Frazan Va'Goshal has locked down the right side, looking like a natural in his new defensive role. Olask's wily inverted winger Noah Silvio, who continues to defy age, was a non-factor against him.

Eastweald cross the country (and a bit of ocean) to barren Olask Isle, a journey that would normally end with an easy three points, and... fall. 2-0. WHAT IS THIS SEASON? With only one more match before the midseason break, the Islanders have ensured they will remain in the title talk for the next month. Kanan Abboud is having a career year at 34, finding a new lease on life by evolving from a generic #8 into a visionary distributor and free kick maestro. Abboud actually leads the HL in free kick goals. By nailing his fifth of the season today, he drew the Islanders within a point of leaders Eastweald. Goddamn. To add to the mayhem, Real Azuris were also upended. By sworn enemies Klyde FC in the return of the Klyde Derby, no less. Kwame Cole reminded the Fiefdom how good he was as the leader of Cassandra City's midfield before being replaced by Ursula Rowan and dictated the tempo and style of match, refusing to let Azuris play their style. With some help from Lind Pressinger and a dramatic clearance off the line by Booker Beckers, the North Klydians were able to preserve a meaningful victory for their fans despite Arrowsword's late lifeline. Elsewhere, FC Samotath absolutely annihilate sliding Keenan Athletic with Nyström leading the way on a complete striker's hat trick. Athletic replace Ramusok United in the relegation places after Kirum Mortonsson's first win in charge. And Samaj FC had their best performance of the season, teaching Stoneshore that they still have a thing or two to learn about crashing UICA parties.

Ramusok United have taken most of the heat from the capital's press thanks to their well-documented struggles (unless your name is Del Toro) and managerial casualty, but in truth... OAS Royal is not faring much better. The spotlight of ignominy was all theirs this weekend, trampled at home by Helfin Fief's red-hot strike force of Kare Saxmark and Astor Zigfield. Royal's defense is a shambles right now compared to their airtight, professional units of years past. Jannick Kontiola finally looks past it at right back and heirs Ellie Hanger and Demi Duvernay are having major growing pains. Claudia Cautcher has only been a minor upgrade over Juquinho alongside Galasgoldas Tathtauré up top thus far and Léonidas Bregoo is sadly but a shell of his former self in midfield. Constantine Champali needs to sort this mess out, and soon. Will he follow Gareth Bournemouth out of the capital?
In contrast, Pelethas United are undefeated in their last five and got another big confidence boost heading into the break by winning a duel with Real Azuris. Charlie Alotic's movement up top was fantastic (they owe much of their recent form to their new striker) and he took his chance well in the 17th minute after getting on the end of a brilliant ball from Auburn Tarrant. And, finally, in the last match of the weekend, Crawford City and Cassandra City fittingly sent us into our month off with a frenzied 90 minutes of sheer madness. Too much happened to even recount it all. All you need to know is that when the dust settled... it was 9v9, 7-5 to Crawford and Kevin Stabb had four goals. THAT should tide us over until the season resumes.
One full leg of the season done. Everybody has seen each other at least once now. Eastweald have emerged as slight favorites to take the crown as the only team to have reached double-digit wins. The partnership between Cossadel and Penumbra Amokachi is humming along like it never quite did last year, Jo de Marisco is still going strong and Eric Bambic has helped steady the defense.

It's too damn close to comment. Ziemelu Skaida have been bright in the first half of the season and a joy to watch, with their #10 Metán Cordéan a Player of the Year frontrunner, but FC Kaldukosic look scary after a string of dominant performances before the break.
