"What the hell do you mean you forgot to bring our jackets?" I ask, slightly annoyed. "Well, shit, dad. If i knew it was going to snow this hard, i would have prepared them yesterday." My son, Ryan, hastily replied. I let out a deep sigh and turned my car right, the airport entrance and the line of refugees was in sight, i parked the police cruiser at the sidewalk in front of the main entrance. I looked at the line to enter the airport and was disappointed at the length. "Ah, hell, i'm not letting you or me freeze our asses out there." I said while turning off the engine of the car. I grabbed my shotgun and my bag and exited the car. Immediately, i see a kid getting pushed around by the army. Boy, they're not messing around. Ryan exited the car while carrying his bag and Bat as he walked besides me. "Stay close." i whispered to Ryan as i started walking. "What am i? 5?" i hear Ryan say under his breath.

Both of us walked towards the entrance, as we walked, i noticed a soldier and a refugee conversing in sign language in front of the line, hmph. I forgot that disabilities still exists. One of the soldiers guarding the entrance noticed me carrying a massive shotgun, i guess he felt threatened, as he pointed his rifle on my chest. "Identification and permit to carry... sir." Said the young soldier. Unfazed, i showed him my badge and permit to carry firearms. "Senior Investigator, Rochester Police Department." The soldier eyes widened, he lowered his gun and let us through. I could hear the grunts of the people in the line, they weren't impressed by us cutting through the lines.

Biography:

Born the heir to a prominent Chinese investment firm, Prince was born in the lap of luxury in Reno, Nevada in one of his father's many private estates in the US. He would be raised in Reno for most of his childhood, spoiled rotten from afar by his doting, yet distant father. With his sheltered upbringing in a household abundant of material goods and personal servants, Prince developed somewhat of a superiority complex in his early childhood, turning into the stereotypical arrogant, pampered brat. However, his contact with his far-flung and enigmatic father was limited, and the lack of any real parental figure save for the nannies that raised him made Prince feel neglected and hungry for affection from the father who only contacted him months at a time with short praises that could hardly be considered proper conversations. To his credit, Prince was at the very least a bright child who excelled in his studies with his very expensive personal tutors, quickly learning French and Spanish alongside English. Ironically, Prince had a hard time learning Mandarin and never picked it up in the end.

Prince's most recent contact with his father happened in his senior year of highschool, where he was told to go to New York to check up on his father's real estate investments. His father finally deemed him ready for more responsibility as a means to slowly break him into his future position . Prince was initially adverse to the idea, upset at the prospect of being a glorified errand boy, but was forced to comply with his father's wishes in the end. He left Nevada with a bodyguard and one of his father's most trusted handy men as escorts. By the time of East Nile Virus outbreak, he was seeing the sights near the Intercontinental Hotel, with his two previously mentioned escorts.

Though not adverse to violence when the situation required, Prince was woefully unprepared for the rise of the undead. If not for his bodyguard and his father's handyman, he would have perished along with countless others in the opening stages of the outbreak. For the first twelve days, he barricaded himself in the third floor of the Intercontinental Hotel with a small group of survivors, who were slowly whittled down with each passing day. Twenty days after the outbreak, he chose to vacate the hotel when the infected overran their refuge, killing his father's handyman in the process. Afterwards, the reduced party of two subsequently made their way to the Rochester Evacuation Zone.

Biography:

Born to a single parent household in flyover country, Alison lived a mundane childhood in Jackson, Wyoming in her family's modest farm. She had no interest in preserving the agrarian lifestyle of her family, and was eager to move to a big city on the coast much like many of her peers. This goal changed however after the 9/11 attack. Even though she was only twelve at the time, the event was seared into her mind forever, and a strong desire to enlist when she came of age latched onto her. Numerous arguments followed with her father at the idea, and their relationship grew strained. The decision was made for her in the end however with her lone parent's death to brain cancer just when she turned seventeen. The loss hit her hard, and with her last connection to the state severed, she made the decision to sell the farm and enlist in the military like she originally intended, seeking an escape from her grief in the refuge of patriotic fervor.

By the time she enlisted in 2006, a significant troop buildup occurred in Afghanistan to combat the resurgence of the Taliban. She served two tours of duty in the hotly contested country over the course of her four year service, and grew disillusioned from the experience. When the time came to reenlist, Alison instead chose to return to civilian life, where she became a professional bodyguard, while remaining in the active reserves for two years until 2012.

She was eventually hired by a prominent Chinese businessman named Yuelin and spent the next five years protecting and supervising the man's son in Reno, Nevada. Throughout that time period, she became a big sister figure to the Prince, in which she also served a strange blend of mentor and parent due to the boy's efforts to fill in the void left behind by his absentee parent. In the process, she developed an unwavering loyalty for the young heir, who she saw much potential in despite his attitude.

By the time of the East Nile Virus outbreak, Alison was guarding Prince as he made the rounds in New York alongside a subordinate of Mr. Jin's, the latter of which was later killed during their escape from the Intercontinental Hotel. She had to much of the heavy lifting to fight off the infected and protect the young Prince, but she did her duty with little complaint until the two of them reached the Rochester Evacuation Zone

And I use italics for stuff that needs emphasis, like they're supposed to be used.

Biography: Born on November 2nd, 1995, in Brooklyn, New York, PFC Rogers was the son of a police officer and a primary school teacher, to whom he grew up with a fairly comfortable, if often stressful, childhood. He grew up well disciplined and studious thanks to the teachings of both his parents, as well as ever loyal to those he loved thanks to his father's service as an officer of the law. Since then, he and his company have encamped in Rochester, providing assistance where needed and protecting civilians and the evacuation centers from the infected.

I'm going over a list of different mental/physical handicaps, want to pick something.....unique for my first RP here on NS. I was thinking something along the lines of Asperger's Syndrome (a form of "higher functioning" autism), going to continue a little more research.

Nothing set in stone, but consider me highly interested.

Edit: If someone has an idea for something unusual, mental or physical illness related they'd like to see me consider, by all means let me know. I love a good challenge.

Insanity, i don't think anyone has that trait in this RP, but is a very common disorder in a post apocalyptic world.

Yea, plus insanity just seems so....how to put it....It's simply too generic I suppose. Asperger's stuck out to me because one of it's key traits is a difficulty with non-verbal cues. People often don't realize how much their body-language has an impact on what they're saying to someone.

Its not that Asperger's (or "Aspies" as those afflicted with it refer to their condition) patients don't understand non-verbal cues altogether, Where you might see 1 non-verbal cue to mean one clear; precise thing, Someone with Asperger's may see 5 meanings (or more) and struggle to figure out what point you're trying to get across. Social interaction is also just mentally exhausting for them, as they have to focus that much harder to interpret what you're saying to a point that prolonged social interaction can even become physically straining for them.

Despite this, Asperger's has it's own unique benefits. Generally such individuals pick up on 1 or few interests and take to them with extreme ease, especially interests involving complex knowledge. Some of the most independent Asperger's patients are remarkably talented programmers or mechanics for example.

They also have a tendency towards repetition, reminiscent to OCD in some ways.

Name: Elizabeth Pryzbylewski
Gender: Female
Age: 25
Description: Elizabeth Pryzbylewski is a woman of west European descent who stands at 182.88 cm and weighs 60 Kilograms, coming in slightly underweight with a slim physique.
Occupation: Senior Financial risk analyst; Barclays Investment bank.
Carry Weight: 24 kg
Strengths:

  • Keen Eye: Coming from the background of risk management analysis and having to be somewhat of a mandatory label detective to deal with a very severe food allergy. She has a particularly keen eye when it comes to the smaller details and can pick up on things that other people may overlook or potentially miss entirely.

  • Level-headed: Dianne has pretty sound judgment in most situations, often being observant and isn't quick to be forced into making decisions without taking all the available facts, both in the logical and ethical sense.

  • Socially persuasive: Coming from a job which requires her to be persuasive and forthright in order to make money, she can be fairly persuasive when she needs to be.

  • Comfortable around firearms: She grew up around firearms during her youth and understands the operation and general safety when it comes to them. Her family was big into Skeet shooting, which Elizabeth often tried her hand at it during her teenage years. In addition to that, she has done a number of pistol related training courses during her time in NYC. As a result, she is decent with handguns small and intermediate calibers, particularly skilled with shotguns and is serviceable with semi-automatic rifles, being slightly better with bolt-actions, although it has been a few years since she's touched a firearm.

Weaknesses:

  • severe food allergies: Dianne has probably one of the worst thing to have during an end of the world scenario, food allergies. Allergic to peanuts, coming into oral contact with any foods which have been processed with peanuts or have been potentially contaminated by the legumes results in her potentially running the risk of having a severe reaction.

Symptoms can be mild if she's lucky, ranging from basic nausea, pain in the abdominal area and rashes. Typically, however, her reactions are typically more severe. Symptoms includes all the previous stated issues, along with Anaphylaxis. With Dianne, this generally means a high fever, respiratory issues resulting in asthma style attacks and swelling around the throat and dilation of the blood vessels, resulting in a faster or irregular heart rate and low blood pressure which leads onto dizziness, collapse and loss of consciousness. A severe reaction typically occurs within minutes and can result in death within a half an hour from asphyxia or shock if not treated quickly and effectively. The use of an Epi-pen can provide immediate relief for the problem and can reverse the symptoms but medical treatment is recommended as a second wave can occur which can occur minutes after the days later, meaning that monitoring is necessary to ensure that symptoms don't re-occur.

In addition to the peanuts, she also as an allergy to soy related products, although she does have a much higher resistance to such products in comparison. Being able to consume foods that have been contaminated, cooked in soy related oils or contain soy related substances with a low amount of soy protein, such as soy lecithin without much issue. She can even consume it in lesser amounts without having any real ailments, in moderate amounts however, issues such as nausea, dizziness, skin reactions including hives and eczema, and occasionally more serious issues such as respiratory issues wheezing and other asthma style attacks can occur.

  • Chain smoker and mild nicotine addiction: Coming from a job which involved working the "Banker" nine to five, in the last few years has resorted to chain-smoking cigarettes in order to help cope with stress of the day to day. While it helps her relax, nicotine withdrawals can often result in mild urges which can cause grogginess, anxiety issues and the occasional tremors if not addressed, this urge is often brought on in tense moments and when she doesn't smoke within a few days.

  • Lacking in strength: While relatively in shape in terms of cardio, Elizabeth lacks raw physical strength. She'll struggle in hand-to-hand fights more than the average person and will fatigue easier from heavier loads.

  • Never been in a fight: While she knows how to use firearm, she's isn't some ghetto gunfighter and has never really been in any fight, lacking experience in that field. As a result, she is much more prone to panicking and other related issues when in a fight.

Belongings:

Biography:

Born October 1992 in Tupper Lake, Franklin County, she was raised in an upper class alongside three siblings, Elizabeth being the second oldest. The family ran a successful and renowned winery which had been run for generations by them. Her parents pushed her and her siblings towards academics aggressively and attention and love was conditional based on who succeeded the most, creating a comparative atmosphere where ones’ accomplishments often got overshadowed by others who’s where deemed better.

She attended a private school in upstate New York from twelve years old and was well regarded as a solid student with an interest in mathematics, although a somewhat rebellious attitude in her later teens “held her back from achieving better things” as they put it, which created some serious friction between her parents and her which was eventually overcome. She graduated from school at eighteen and attended Yale university on a course on mathematics and economics, which she excelled at, graduating some time during 2012, with her earning a summer internship with Barclays on their Front Office Summer Analyst and Associate Program.

It was here where she started to arguably come into her own, with her aggressive work ethic, resourcefulness and adaptable nature quickly setting her apart as a potential candidate for future employment within the financial industry, with Elizabeth excelling at her job. Following the end of the internship, she found herself in employment with the company was a first-year financial risk analyst. While the pay was arguably good and the lifestyle as a result was great, the work was soul destroying for most people, with Elizabeth often working the banker nine to five just to meet the demands of upper management with whatever they needed. It was stressful, but she ultimately founds ways to cope, such as chain-smoking and prescription drugs.

Her hard-work and dedication to the job eventually paid off, when she worked her way up to senior risk management analyst earlier in the year. Things were going perfectly fine, she had a nice condo in upper Manhattan, a stable relationship which had lasted the better part of two years and had amassed quite the savings from her five years of employment. Then the first cases of East Nile Virus began popping up. At first it was minor, some company shares dropped while pharmaceuticals shot up, but eventually it very quickly turned into a worldwide pandemic.

Elizabeth life then revolved around the effect it had on business as it created a panic as inconclusive reports circled through the media, ranging from official CDC reports to eye witness accounts on the local news all telling a different story, at first it was well clear of them, off in Europe, Africa and Asia. Entire continents away. The threat didn’t seem real until it was on their front porch trying to get in.
Elizabeth had been lucky enough to take the advice of a co-worker and get the hell out of NYC before the shit hit the fan, as it fell rather quickly.
