Blue Jays, Panthers both fall in week one action

This was NOT how either Lycrabonian school expected their return to be.

Fair Haven State, making its Celestia Conference return to NSCF, fell flat on its face as the Blue Jays fell to Northern Moravica last night 26-6. Two field goals - from 35 and 50 - were the only bright spots on a dismal opening night. NMU ran roughshod over the Big Blue defense, and FHSU will have to regroup quickly.

Northern Dinagat State, however, at least made it a game. The Panthers' junior QB threw for 423 yards on 34 for 60, but the "Black Hearts" fell to Coral Coast 34-23. As was said by LSPN, who was covering the game, "When you start out going down 17-0 after one quarter, it doesn't help your cause." With two minutes to go, NDSU was driving to make it a one-score game, but the QB was picked off in the endzone to seal the deal.

Loyola picks up where it left off with 44-0 shellacking of Solomons Land City College

Freshman Receiver Artemesio Take catches a jump ball in the corner of the end zone to make the score 21-0

ISTRIA- The Blue Thunder had their first game in 3 years in the NSCF today, with their season opener kicking off conference play, hosting Celestia Conference newcomers Solomons Land City College. While Loyola were the favorites, nobody really knew what to expect going into this game. They hadn't played at this level in a number of years, and with a brand new offensive coordinator that had been the league's Most Outstanding Player just two years ago, nobody really knew what to expect at the Istria Lightning Yard today.

The result was nothing short of dominance. While expectations must be tempered, as this is the conference's only school that was not a full-scale university, Blue Thunder fans still have to be pleased at the outcome of today's game. Not only did the defense pitch a shutout, but the offense seemingly moved the ball at will, and could have scored even more if they did not take their foot off of the break in the 3rd quarter. And, the best part is, the team got through the entirety of the game healthy.

Loyola, at the Istria Lightning Yard, elected to kick off to take advantage of the crowd excitement with their first possession on the defensive side of the football. After their defense forced a 3 and out to start the game, the ensuing possession took place from their own 22 yard line, and just 3 plays later, with a 22 yard run by Greenspan, a 25 yard scramble by quarterback Isaka Jawara, and a 31 yard post route to Jonah Bart, they were up 7-0.

That, of course, showed their ability to score on the big play. They then, on the next drive, put together a methodical drive, that featured Justice Greenspan a lot, and it ended after 6:50 with Greenspan punching it in on 3rd and goal from 2 yards out to give the team a 14-0 lead, and show the game quickly coming out of reach for Solomons Land City College. While Land City College responded well to the second touchdown, with a drive themselves that went to the Loyola 11 yard line, an end zone interception by defensive captain Obi Benti, a senior, on the first play of the 2nd quarter ended that effort.

Loyola quickly went to work against their opponents for the rest of the half. Highly touted true freshman Artemesio Take had a brilliant catch on a jump ball in the corner to give his team a 21-0 lead, and then at the very end of the half, Hezekiah Berehanu caught a touchdown to make the score 28-0 at halftime. On their first possesion of the second half, they marched down the field and settled for 3, and with a 31-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, that was it for the first team offense. The first team defense left the field at the end of the 3rd.

The second team defense held onto the shutout, and the second team offense added a pair of field goals in the 3rd quarter. Loyola's last touchdown was scored on a 55 yard punt return by true freshman Kostas Costas late in the 4th quarter. While they were victors by a score of 44-0, Head Coach Jobs cautioned that it was just one game. "While things may have gone well today, the season is not won or lost in week 1. We got 9 conference games to go, and the Celestia is always a battle. We have a tough visit to Fair Haven State, and we must get ready for what will undoubtedly be a tough trip to Lycrabon."

Northern defense suffocating in week 1 victory over Fair Haven State

Image
Bastiaan Rodo completes a 9 yard touchdown scramble to give Northern a 7-0 lead in the 2nd quarter

HERZEGOVINA CITY- Bastiaan Rodo threw two touchdown passes and rushed for a third, while Northern Moravica cruised to a 26-6 in their home opener against Fair Haven State. The Blue Jays put up a fight, mostly through their kicker, but it was simply too much of Northern Moravica for Fair Haven State to have a chance on this occasion, which marked Northern's return to the NSCF.

The first quarter was extremely close, with the score finishing at 0-0. The second quarter saw a couple of key plays, and saw some life from the passing game, which is exactly why Quebecois Offensive Coordinator Joon Ho Kweon was hired. In the 5 seasons that Horace Browning has been head coach, the one thing that he has been lacking is strong quarterback play. This hire showed signs of working, with a couple of plays in the 2nd quarter.

Facing a 3rd and 7 at their own 38, Bastiaan Rodo successfully looked off a safety, who thought he was throwing towards the middle of the field on a skinny post, and threw a bomb down the sideline, caught by Vezaquez III, who wasn't brought down until the 9 yard line. The 54 yard gain set up Rodo's touchdown scramble on the very next play. And on the next drive, on a 1st and 10 from the Blue Jays 33, Rodo threw a perfect pass between the corner and the safety, where tight end Odirile Tumelo caught a touchdown while taking a big hit. Those two throws were key, and showed his improvement from this summer, working with the Quebecois quarterback guru.

Bastiaan Rodo added a 2nd touchdown pass on a fade to Vezaquez from 6 yards out, and the team had all of a sudden rushed out to a 21-0 lead at halftime. While two 3rd quarter field goals, from 35 and 50, made the score 21-6, the Fair Haven State offense could not do much of anything against this Northern squad. Senior kicker Hadgu Beheilu added a 43 yard field goal, thought he missed one from 50. And, of course, a safety late in the 4th quarter finished off the scoring.

Ultimately, a good showing from Northern Moravica. Their next game is a tricky trip to Coral Coast University, where they must face another 1-0 team, who won today against Northern Dinagat State. This will be a great test for Bastiaan Rodo and the Northern offense, to see how much he has really improved. Northern Dinagat had 423 passing yards in a losing effort on an eye-popping 60 pass attempts, which suggests that the Coral Coast secondary is beatable. It will undoubtedly be one of those games that shows if Northern is truly ready to compete for their 3rd Celestia Conference crown.

Ranorian Quarterbacks Struggle in NSCF Opener
After John Garrett's stellar 2016 season in which he threw only two interceptions, many expected that train to keep rolling with a dominant opening performance. Instead, he finished with a flat fifty percent completion percentage and under one hundred fifty yards. After Javier Gilmore's issues with consistently catching the football came to a head, with 4 drops on six targets, and zero receptions, Farmer took over the game in the second half. After struggling in the first half, Farmer racked up over a hundred yards and a score in the second, a score that Raynor was never ever to make up for after a dominant performance from the Richardson Defense. Despite this, if Garrett's struggles continue, will this Governors defense be able to maintain such success, especially when Melvin Strong, and electrifying back in the domestic season, can't gain three yards per carry?

Besides Farmer, the only true bright spot on the offense was Larry Foster, younger brother of Anthony Foster, who hauled in two receptions for twenty yards, both first downs. Like his brother, Foster is an average-speed wideout, but he uses his massive frame and freakish strength to overpower defenders, making him an excellent chain mover and red zone target, even if that wasn't on full display tonight.

The struggles of Thorn Davis's offense of Cold Hill, however, are too great to be ignored. Just over fifty yards of total offense, all the while Angelo Gordon dominates from his side of the ball. But when a team cannot score, and cannot keep its defense off the field, everything just appears to fall apart. Ranorian football programs must be realizing that something needs to change if they are to represent our great nation as it deserves, by dominating the competition, rather than squeaking out a win on one end and collapsing on the other.

Thorn Davis, Quarterback, looks to pass in a losing effort in which he tossed three interceptions
As bad as it looks now, however, there are stirrings of a divided locker room in Cold Hill, rumors circulating that tensions, tensions that almost boiled over in the domestic, runner-up season, are coming to a head between upper classmen and freshman starters.

SKYHAWKS WIN NSCF HOME OPENER

Show Off Offensive Prowess

Written by Jacob Harding

Everyone was well aware when the news came out that, despite barely losing the national championship last year to the despised Corinth City Chargers, the Skyhawks would no longer be competing for a championship in the DCAO for football. While the original announcement was cryptic and rustled quite a few jimmies, all alarm was laid to rest a couple weeks later when DISC and the Sadeg State Athletic Department announced that Sadeg State would be taking the place of Drawk Corps University in the NSCF. Since DCU was playing like hot garbage and embarrassing us on the national stage, as well as the fact that DISC has access to hundreds of great college football programs, it was a no-brainer that they'd replace them with the Skyhawks, one of Drawkland's most exciting-to-watch football teams right now.

Enough with the expositional chatter. The season is now underway and any international sports fans should be getting hyped right now. In case you missed it, I'm gonna cover how the first game went down. Boy it was a good one.

In a home opener for the Skyhawks which resulted in a packed crowd, Sadeg State took on Arvid City National School of Wonders and Honors. Say that 10 times fast. Some fans started calling them by ACNSWH, which was really weird. Most people just called the school from Bortonania's capital city the Dragons, since that was their mascot. Unfortunately for them, it appears that Skyhawks hunt in packs and eat dragons. Hopefully this remains true for when we have to face Ramusok Capital (defending champs whoops lol) Dragons next week. With a final score of 30-7, the Skyhawks are already up and rolling to be a contender in the Horizon Conference, assisted further by the absence of previous powerhouse Harbor College.

After the marching band did their Skyhawk Strut parade thing as the players entered the stadium, the stadium began filling up. Not by any means a capacity crowd, but certainly a slightly larger turnout than an average game in previous years. The crowd got pumped up as the band came out to play their pregame show, featuring the Drawkian Anthem, Iarocav's Rouser, the Sadeg State Fight Song, a few crowd chants, and a new addition this year, "Soar Skyhawks," which is a fanfarish sort of song written by the Director of Bands at SSU, Dr. Heather Climar. It sounded really cool, and it was a perfect segue to the Skyhawks themselves storming onto the field from the tunnel entrance on the scoreboard endzone, as the crowd roared. Okay, ra ra. I know you care about what happened during the game.

So the main reason this game was really big was due to the emergence of Senior Quarterback Dustin Beck. Since the last quarterback, Zac Gold, graduated and went on to the GLD, this was the first game in which Beck was starting. For those not aware, Dustin Beck was one of the top dual threat recruits of his high school class, and showed a lot of his prowess in garbage time of games that Sadeg State had in the bag the last year or two. So that's why a lot of people showed up to this game as well, if you disregard that it's the home opener, and that it's the first SSU game in the NSCF.

While the Arvid City National School Dragons aren't the highest quality program to ever see the face of NSCF competition, they at least had a pretty clear gameplan. They played super conservatively during the game, both on offense and defense. The defense remained backed up at least 10 yards from the line of scrimmage, not wanting to give up the big play (however obviously opening themselves to get eaten up underneath. Their offense playcalling was extremely lackluster and routine, trying to prevent big turnovers or any excitement at all. Handoffs, quick pitches, and checkdown/drag route passes galore, I tell you. It's a miracle they got any first downs at all as a team. They looked imposing and had everyone on their toes for a minute, despite Sadeg projected to win by a couple touchdowns. The Dragons put the first points on the board after forcing a 3-and-out on the opening possession by the Skyhawks. With the Skyhawks in a safety blitz on their own 30 yard line, the Arvid quarterback threw a quick pass to a receiver on a screen. Eli Dyer, the sophomore cornerback, went straight for the pass to try and intercept it (which likely would've resulted in a pick 6), but he was too slow and the receiver had a wide open path since nobody was in the secondary. He barely managed to get into the end zone with Lenox Daley hot on his tail, but he did score, and after a quick kick, it was 0-7 Arvid City.

The first drive sputtered out due to the Dragons locking up at the line to gain. With Sadeg State not totally prepared for this, as well as not being able to break a couple tackles, they were unable to get anything going. After talking with the offensive coordinator Art Beckham and the head coach Brand Manlio during the defensive possession, the Skyhawks had a few ideas in mind. A couple power runs by exceptional trucker super senior Brody Krusen brought the offense into a rhythm and broke up the defense a bit, giving them some leeway with playcalling. After a quick 2-yard drag route turned into an 8 yard gain thanks to the Dragon defensive space, the stage was set for a great play. Dustin Beck took the ball from under center and rolled out for a bootleg. Driscoll and Jockey ran for streaks on the opposite side of the field to make space, and the tight ends Black and Murray ran other routes in the middle of the field. Then shifty Sam Artair ran up in front of Beck to draw the defenders. Beck then straight up ran forward, with tons of space, twisting and turning all around to try and break free. While he was eventually tackled down at the Arvid 35, it wasn't before a 31 yard gain. The crowd got super fired up, and despite the fact that the offense needed to convert three consecutive 3rd downs to get to the goal line, it still didn't stop the hype. When the handoff to Artair ended in a Skyhawk touchdown, the crowd exploded.

Unfortunately, action stalled for awhile in a nervous standoff by both teams, punting back and forth after measly drives. I can't tell if it was nerves or what, but the Skyhawks' receiving corps dropped a lot of passes which was pretty depressing and obviously not good for Beck's completion percentage, but whatever. The action came in the last seconds of the second quarter. The Dragons had managed to drive upfield and get to the goalline, sucking up clock and making a solid drive. However, with 20 seconds left on the clock, Super Senior Linebacker Harvey Donovan got home on a blitz, managing to slam the running back in the Dragons backfield so hard that he coughed up the ball. With so little time remaining, Donovan took off, only to realize that he'd likely be caught before he could return it all the way and by then the clock would be done, nullifying the turnover. In a savvy move, he merely slid down at about the Skyhawk 29 yard line, and with their final timeout used and 8 seconds left on the clock, the Skyhawks were going to try and score. Of course, the conservative Dragons ended up only rushing 2 men, and all but one of their players were over 20 yards back from the line of scrimmage. In the classic Hail Mary formation, the Skyhawks snapped it and tried to get something going. Even Nico Rigi, the running back for the play, went on a streak to try and get open. Beck, uncomfortable in the pocket after a few hot seconds, rolled out, surveying the scene. From practice film we've seen, we know that Beck can easily chuck a ball at least 70 yards. And it looked like he did. He pump faked, and suddenly sprang into action. The 3 offensive lineman unoccupied from the scant rushing powered forward into the dozens of empty yards, and Beck followed after them. With all the defenders occupied downfield, Beck went into a full sprint around the middle of the field. By the time the defense realized what was happening it was too late. The receivers and O-line went with sudden and solid blocking, and Beck was confronted with only one defender between him and the end zone. With the clock showing zeroes, Beck shoved the defender aside with a solid arm and coasted into the end zone to score and make the game 14-7 at the half (as well as making all the fans go wild).

After halftime, the team came back out to raucous cheers, especially Dustin Beck when he came out a little behind the rest of the team. Now, the Sadeg State special teams is not especially notable. Not that they're bad or anything, they've just never been the forefront of special teams highlights, at least from a kicking standpoint. Pace Napoli, a Senior and now starting punter now that Rick Gatsky graduated last year, came to play and prove why he's the new starter as well. As the kickoff specialist for the beginning of the second half, he delivered an amazing opening kick that left Arvid City stumped. It arced down towards the sideline inside the 5, and not wanting to field it and instead allow it to drift out for a penalty, the Arvid returnman simply let it bounce. That was a mistake. The ball struck the ball with incredible backspin in the far corner, making it shoot straight up into the air and actually away from the sideline instead of going out of bounds. Panicking due to it being a live ball, the returnman had to turn back around and field it. When he did cradle it he was on the threshold of his own end zone, and when 3 Skyhawks came rushing at him, pinning him in the corner, it was all he could do to just take the safety and not fumble it too. Right out of halftime, the 'hawks had more points on the board and now, the "opening" possession. The score was now 16-7 with 14:58 left in the 3rd quarter.

The ensuing drive ended up petering out just outside of field goal range, and the resulting punt drifted for a touchback. Then a punting game was played similar to the first half, all of the drives until late in the 3rd quarter ended with kicks (all punts except a missed 49 yard field goal by Roger Henry of the Skyhawks). At the end of the 3rd quarter, Sadeg State had put together a solid drive, highlighted with an over-top pass to Jarrod Driscoll which brought SSU to the red zone. 3 plays later and it's 2nd and Goal on the 3 yard line, where Beck rolled out to the left and fired a bullet into the gut of tight end Calvin Black for a touchdown pass.

At this point the defense was just attempting to get turnovers and big hits on the conservative Dragon offense, which they mostly succeeded in doing. The Sadeg offense was content to run the clock out, giving plenty of touches to all 3 running backs and keepers for Beck as well. With about 4 minutes left in the game, the Skyhawks pulled a play action shot play (after 8 consecutive running plays), with Beck firing the ball deep to Joey Ash who had absolutely burned the covering corner and safety. With seemingly no effort, Dustin Beck flung the ball 40 yards in the air straight into the bread basket of Ash, and Ash finished the play by cruising cleanly into the end zone. The score after the PAT was 30-7, and that's the score it remained until Beck took the knee 4 minutes of game time later to end the game on a high note. The crowd, which was still strong, roared at the conclusion as Sadeg State chalked up their first ever international football win to compare to their excellent international basketball track record.

Now we know some of you fans are rabid and/or new to this whole thing so we're gonna highlight some good games for you to watch this week before you head down to SSU Gridiron Park or tune in on primetime to see the Sadeg Game. We'll highlight one from each conference that's most intense and one from each time slot that we think is best.

BIG EIGHT: Richardson University @ University of Paulo, Raynor University @ Cold Hill University, Mar Sara Tech @ Zequoia State.
There's no big titlecard matchup this week in the Big Eight, but keep your eyes on the Cold Hill vs Raynor matchup. With Ranoria's new second school desperate for a win, as well as coming in to their first home game of the season, this will be a key one for them. More is at stake when you consider that this will be Raynor's first road trip and that both of these teams were beaten by the opponent's fellow nationmates last week. Bad blood? Let's not be excessive, but it'll certainly be a loud crowd.

CELESTIA: Solomons Land City College @ Northern Dinagat State, Loyola University @ Fair Haven State University, Northern Moravica University @ Coral Coast University.
The dead walk the earth! Just kidding. For real though, the Celestia Conference has not one, not two, but 4 schools returning from the depths of budget problems, time warps, temporary ceasing of existence, what have you. If you count Coral Coast as a returning school due to being a school from Frenline Delpha, you have 5/6 teams with a history in this conference. Anyhow, Loyola University hasn't seen action in the NSCF since it won the title against Harbor College in NSCF season 14. Technically, counting their Week 1 shutout of Solomons, they have an unbeaten streak that spans over 2 seasons. Ignoring the fact that they didn't participate. Even so, the stakes are high, and with Fair Haven State also returning from an (even longer) hiatus, this could turn out to be an epic clash of the "old school." Haha, get it? Okay I'll stop now.

HORIZON: University of North Tunheim @ Arvid City National School of Wonders and Honors, Stoneshore College @ Southern Rochelle University, Ramusok Capital University @ Sadeg State University
No no, we swear this isn't an ego boost. The other games are either a crapfest or an inevitable blowout. The primetime matchup of Ramusok Capital and Sadeg State is set to be a solid one. Not only is this the second consecutive home game for the Skyhawks, but they also have a chance to play the defending champions. Drawk Corps U pretty much failed epicly in the NSCF, this is SSU's chance to prove to the world that they mean way much more business than the previous Drawkian representatives. And this isn't a huge deal either, but there's the fact that Sadeg State and its Drawkian counterparts have completely spanked everybody in the NSCAA, including Cosumarite schools, so this is also a chance to affirm dominance in this realm too. Don't count on it though. While it'll be exciting, I doubt it'll be competitive.

MINERAL: Lindon Technical College @ Grand Danican State, Rel City University @ Gallian Military Academy, Oulu State University @ University of Konigsberg.
The only returning school to the Mineral Conference this year is the "little brother" team of the University of Konigsberg, who's traditionally been playing second fiddle to the teams from The Redvale in this conference. Luckily for them, their demons are gone, but replaced by what looks like similar powerhouse schools from The Gallian Union. Honestly, with no history to any of the teams in this conference and no big-ticket or intra-national matchups, this week is pretty bare for the Mineral Conference. For the sake of picking a best though, it's a tie. Oulu State scored 0 points last week and Konigsberg put up 41, so that could be an interesting blowout. Rel City only put up 3 points against a Gallian opponent, while Gallian Military put up only 10 and allowed none against their opponent. Close game perhaps? It's our choice to watch. Well, our actual choice would be to watch a different conference, but whatever.

SEQUOIA: Akers State University @ Marabesh Elite Academy, The Academy of Space @ Gyan Johnson University, University of Luvenstat @ Calix City University of Archaeology.
This is another conference with not much happening. A bunch of teams with next to no history and no identifiable up-and-comers. All we really have to go with has gotta be the "primetime" for this sad tree-based conference, and that's the Calix City vs Luvenstat game. Both of these teams won their outings last week in their home stadiums, and Luvenstat against Gyan-Johnson, who's one of the favorites to compete for the conference title. Calix has the home field, so it'll likely be a relatively easier win for the Archaeology school, but still, if you're a Sequoia conference fan for some reason, I guess that's your form of high entertainment.

WOODLANDS: University of Iqaluit @ University of Arkinesia, Universite St. Croix @ Universite du Saguenay, Palæontological-Centered Research @ Utica University.
Now here's a conference, folks. What with the big 3 Quebecois schools, the number 1 most legendary school in NSCF history, an underachieving but historical program, and an underachieving but up-and-coming program. This is one to keep an eye on for sure. Our pick for the big game is obviously USC vs USag (I don't think that's how they abbreviate it but it's too funny to pass up). Not only is it the first nation vs same nation matchup this season, but it's also between the two french-based Quebecois schools, which is a pretty big deal. USC is obviously the better program but the rivalry is fantastic and USag has the home field. Expect an intense matchup in the midday.

ZEPHYR: University of Auster @ Innusburg University, Imperial Military Academy @ Rensuleir University, Thereisnogodistan Community College @ Ceneisis Naval Academy.
The Zephyr Conference, to cap our roundup, is filled with schools that have been in the NSCF for awhile but have never made a huge splash. Despite this, the rivalries still run deep and strong. The big one this time is also the late game, being between Thereisnogodistan CC and Ceneisis Naval. Thereisnogodistan is a frivolous and atheist nation which is really just a proxy of Abanhfleft, the nation where Ceneisis is from. This is the next best thing to an intra-national rivalry matchup and both of these schools have decently quality programs as well. Hence, a pretty great game.

BEST GAMES FOR SLOTS:
Morning/Noon: University of Iqaluit @ University of Arkinesia
Afternoon: Universite St. Croix @ Universite du Saguenay
Evening/Night: Ramusok Capital University @ Sadeg State University

Honestly, we'd just suggest you sleep in this Saturday. None of the morning games have any big rivalries or high stakes matchups. The closest you have is a semi-big name in University of Iqaluit taking on the historical but mediocre University of Arkinesia. Like we said. Just get wasted Friday night and you won't have to shake your hangover until 4 when the actually interesting games start.
Speaking of which, the best matchup to watch once you do get your ass out of bed has gotta be the USC/USag game. USC is the best team playing in the afternoon, being 2 time championship ... losers, and #5 on the all-time legacy leaderboard. Couple that with the fact that it's an intra-national rivalry game at the rival's school, and you're set for an intense battle between the Bleu-et-Blanc and the Fighting Irish.
And of course, we have to give ourselves the best primetime slot. We're not lying though, this will be an intense matchup. The defending international champions, Ramusok Capital, facing one of the biggest schools in one of the biggest gridiron nations in recent history (and that's not even counting the semi-sorta-rivalry from other sports). The Skyhawks have a tough task but it is what it is. Whatever the result, if it's a close game it'll be exciting to watch, and if it's an utter blowout by a team you'll either be seeing the current champs at peak form or an upstart team taking the reins and showing how good they actually are.

Whatever games you end up watching though, enjoy them. After all, it is football, and god bless football. See y'all next week.

I'm assuming that the game order as spat out by the scorinator is like what order the games would be played and therefore broadcasted. First games are around like a noon kickoff, second games around 4pm-ish, and the third games are 8pm-ish. Obviously this is just my interpretation, feel free to use or ignore it though. Also take my shade with a grain of salt.
It's all meant to be from an IC standpoint.

Academy of Space

ARENA - "Extraterrestrial Dome of Sport".
The dome is constructed of clear plasticized glass allowing a cristal clear view of the stars and planets above. The dome will rotate with respect to its surroundings during matches for enhanced viewing, though any nearby stars (Stars within 2 or fewer Astronomical Units) will remain on the backside of the playing field to prevent glaring and temperature control.

The dome currently has 35,000 permanent seats, with a further 43,000 temporary seating available. The dome is expandable up to over 200,000 seats but there are no plans of this type at the time.

It will be an interesting challenge for the players from opposing nations as the Academy is non terrestrial (Of course, a playing field and gravity are provided, but are isolated to the dome of play itself. The upper dome is clear allowing a view of the solar system). While the team representing Space will surely be the underdog during away matches, it is quietly hoped that they will be able to gain more of a home field advantage than other teams might usually have due to this subtle location difference, and end the season with a respectable record.

Coach: Cosmo Icii

Cosmo has been coaching the non-competitive team at the Academy of Sport and as far as the board is concerned, the job is Cosmo's regardless of the record, so long as he doesn't embarrass the school. While not recognized previously by the NSCF, the Academy has attempted to conform to standard practice by identifying those players who are further along in their schooling but never participated in the sport team with the appropriate allocation.

Space in wrong Space

Image

The academy of space begins Nationstates College Football 17 in the Sequoia conference a very disappointing development. While other, non celestial based institutions have been invited to join the Celestial Conference, the Academy of Space has been stuck in a conference named after a minor earthbound plant known as a "tree".

Perhaps distracted by this unfortunate turn of events, Academy players were less than effective in their debut "Sequoia Conference" match in Week one of the season, losing by a touchdown to Akers State University of Northwest Kalactin by a score of 30-23.

The academy were also embarrassed by a logistical complication that required them to wear the uniforms of the association football team instead of the Gridiron Football team. Apparently the gridiron football kits were lost in space.

So with only 23 shirts to go around, Academy players were almost always shirtless on the sidelines and the team took a handful of penalties throughout the day particularly after a turnover when all 11 players on the field had to "quickly" swap shirts with their teammates on the other side of the ball. The Space team hope to have the jersey situation resolved before the next match.

Kotaharapan — It was a thrilling game, but not if you enjoy offense. The Utica and UArk football teams struggled to move the ball against stiff defenses in a game where all the points were scored in the first quarter, as the Wyverns took a 3-0 victory in front of a home crowd in a rivalry game.

Surprisingly, the offenses played rather cleanly, with each offense committing just one turnover apiece, but the defenses seemed to be playing with stocks of energy supplements on the sidelines. The offenses would repeatedly be off the field in just three to six plays, but the defenses on both sides seemed to have limitless drive and energy.

The Wyverns kicked off to start the game, stopping a promising Utica drive just outside field goal range, with a forced punt. The Wyverns then drove down the field, before being forced to kick a field goal on 4th and 8 just outside the 20-yard line. For the remaining 47 minutes of the contest, there were no points.

“We felt like a lot of times our offense just wasn't getting the job done,” coach Dave Gruber said. “I would be lying to you guys if I said we weren't a little bit concerned about that moving forward. But, that's one game, now we have to get ready for the next one.” The Wyvern defense, as you might expect from the score, was excellent, holding Utica to fewer than 90 rushing yards and getting in the way of seemingly every Utica pass.

“We were thrilled with the performance of our guys out there,” defensive coordinator Jack Kite told reporters after the game. “I would have liked more turnovers, but we got the job done, and a shutout is a shutout.”

Starting off the season with a win is always a bonus, the players and coaches will tell you, no matter how ugly it might look. Here's to our Wyverns!

CALIX CITY — If there was any questions left on how Vince Dill would lead the Calix City Institute of Archaeology team without the likes of Porthos Subercaeaux (injury, will not play till week 7) and star wide-receiver Edouard Courbet (drafted #3 in GFL draft), I think Coach Dill quietly and successfully answered anything the nay-sayers could throw at him, he proved more than resilient as he coached the CCIA team thru a relatively quiet and easy 23-10 victory of Marabie's Marabesh Elite Academy team. While many had expected a closer scoreline, perhaps CCIA's semi-regularly wins of a 3-0 victory, it seemed that Coach Dill had unlocked the formula to this thing commonly referred to as an offense in the sport of gridiron football and it showed at the end of the say as Adrien De Verley, the relative unknown but well-tested back-up quarterback threw the rock 19/48 for 342 yards alongside a pair of touchdowns. While the game was at times sloppy - this was of course expected, after all, Coach Dill has just implemented a new formation and scheme on offense while new defensive coordinator, Zacharie Armada brought a slew of new, fresh ideas to the team from his upper-school coaching days at Lightman Upper School in Odin Country.

The game was considered by many to be nothing but a warm-up for the Calix City side to prepare them for the actual showdown with who many consider to be the other actual competitors for the Sequoia Conference, the University of Luvenstat - not to take away from this game however as the preview saw something more of a defensive match-up between the two sides. Many had expected for CCIA to rely on a resolute defense and walk away with a 3-nothing victory (CCIA actually won three of their Sommet 1 games on a scoreline of 3-nothing) over Marabesh Elite Academy, Adrien De Verley's first start at the NSCF-level brought with it many possibilities, how would the young kid react to playing in front of an international audience with Subercaseaux recovered from his injury was the question running thru many peoples minds as the game came closer and closer to kick-off. On the defensive front, the real question was how the team would rally under a new formation and scheme (3-3-5 and Tampa-2 respectively), without Josselin Leloup, many also wondered who would emerge as the new champion of the defensive game - would it be Uniquaz Asskerex, the freshmen who recorded 3.5 sacks in his first season of play or possibly Fernand Lazard, one of the nine seniors and a champion in his own right, fighting cancer and recording five interceptions this past-Sommet 1 season.

It was to be a good game of offensive firepower and yet another great game of defensive will-power alongside the many shenanigans that dictate CCIA in games, the first quarter started off quietly, there was no scoring however, Matthias Plantier rocked the Marabesh college quarterback three times, ending the game with 1.5 sacks on the season and delivering a dreadful one to the MEA quarterback that stopped the game for seven minutes as the MEA poor guy had to be helped off the field. The second quarter was when the floodgates opened, a mistaken defensive blunder by CCIA but MEA up 7-nothing on a 46-yard touchdown pass to their noumber-3 receiver, an embarrassing start, however, one CCIA would right minutes later. With 7:35 left, Adrien De Verley marched his team down the field in 93 yards with six plays and hammered home a 19-yard touchdown in which the ball seemed to float in the air for thirty minutes until it came down in the reliable hands of Martin Auchest. With two minutes remaining before half-time, the CCIA defense managed to corner the MEA team in their endzone and Plantier delivered the nail-in-the-coffin, a devastating safety to the MEA side, putting CCIA up 9-7 at the end of the first half. Upon returning, the Kebecois team seemed further invigorated, mobbing down the field early on, after a good kickoff return which put CCIA in good positioning after marching down the field for 76-yards, Gervais Granet punched in the a touchdown with an 11-yard run to put the CCIA Kings up 15-7, the converted extra-point made it 16-7. Afterwards, a drive stalled for MEA at the CCIA 39-yardline, however, the MEA kicker made a deep kick, a 52-yarder as the time in the third quarter expired. The final quarter was a frenzy, not much happening until Adrien De Verley found Thibauld Boutlet for the final touchdown of the game and sealing a 23-10 victory for CCIA, their opening game victory and one well-deserved.

After a good game for the Kebecois side, CCIA will continue their two-game homestand by playing the other perennial challenger for the Sequoia Conference, none other than familiar rival and face, the University of Luvenstat who the Kings of CCIA have faced off against twice for a record of 1-1, a 7-3 loss and a 10-nothing victory over the Luvenstat side, it is quite fair to say these two things are quite evenly matched in their talent and prospective chances at bringing the conference title home. The U of Luvenstat - aka the U of L are known as the Lions, last year, they were one of the most resolute defensive squads to every play in NSCF, regularly posting 7-3 victories and/or losses, so now, they're faced with traveling to Kebec to the Calix City Stadia where they'll be playing before a well-known and a much-revamped CCIA squad which has been tinkered with significantly in Vince Dill's three-season tenure as the head coach. We expect when we collide, Calix City will come out on top with a 21-3 victory, its been written in the stars.

In our other conference games, rivals the University of Luvenstat ousted Gyan-Johnson University to a score of 13-6, a well put-together GJU team did simply too little as sophomore quarterback, Vincent Seymoure simply got roughed up against the much-more experienced U of L team. In another interesting match-up, new-comers, The Academy of Space battled it out with Akers State University, resulting in a 30-23 victory for ASU, the other new-comers to NSCF and the Sequoia Conference, interestingly, the Space-ian? team was playing in their national team football kits as their gridiron uniforms were apparently not delivered, forcing them to compete without the latter - was this what doomed them? Already, many are casing their ballots on a blowout by them next week.

Fool's Errand?

Another year has come and gone and much to the surprise of many, the Vanorian schools of Mar Sara Tech and Raynor University continue to compete in the NSCF despite little incentive or success in doing so. It is something of a conundrum for those in the know to try and figure out the motives here of the two schools as well as to why the VSC would continue to allow their entry in what has to be a bit of a money pit for the organization. While success has been seen for the schools competing in the NSCAA, to a degree, there has not been that same level of perceived success for the Vanorian contingent here and while it is true that many elves choose to take the long view instead of the short term, one has to wonder what it is that drives them to continue given the obvious fiscal and physical disadvantages that they will continue to have when facing off against their opposition. For many, it seems like a completely foolish endeavor and errand to continue to pursue, though the schools have had the endorsement of legendary footballer Laborious Hawk in their pursuit in the competition, so perhaps there is something underneath that provides a solid reason for their continued participation.

Much like in the NSCAA, you have seen the two schools employ non traditional formations and tactics to try and compensate for the physical differences between the elven players and that of the humans who are typically stronger and taller than our own players. However what our kind may lack for pure strength and size is more than compensated with the endurance of the players as well as the sheer speed in which they possess, with the typical lithe outer kingdom elven frames. This has seen the development of highly skilled secondary players in the defense and running backs as well as wide receivers for the offenses, with the offenses being often a tad stronger than their defensive counterspots on the teams. This is not something new for those who follow Vanorian sports from the mast amateur to the professional, as most Vanorians prefer a good attack to that of a strong defense, though their are obvious exceptions to that norm, though neither Tech nor Raynor are among those exceptions when it comes to gridiron.

The challenge for the teams in the Big Eight conference, outside of each other, is obvious in the form of Richardson University, the conference champions last year who came on very strong out of nowhere to take the conference title from Tech. They started the defense of that title quite well as well, going into Raynor City and finding a way to completely shut down the offense of the team and pitched a shutout, though only getting a single touchdown themselves. It proves that their are not as invincible as some would like to believe but it also proves that both Tech and Raynor City will have their work quite cut out for them if the wish to wrangle the title away and try to establish themselves as one of the premier schools in the NSCF. Recruiting non elves for future seasons may be a route forward, as the season where Mar Sara Tech had two Quebecois players on their roster was one of the best seasons that the Raiders had in the NSFC and with the competition already being stacked against Vanorians, it seems the most viable of choices moving forward.

Mar Sara Tech will have that chance to land those early blows, having already defeated Cold Hill University in their home opener, a fellow school for Richardon's home nation of Ranoria, and having what appears to be a very winnable second game when they travel to Zequoia State. For whatever reason the Raiders have found success far more likely than that of Raynor University in the NSCF and if that continues, it may just prove to be the sort of attraction for the likes of Cosmumarites and others to decide to pick them come signing day instead of their home schools or bigger, more traditionally successful schools. Tradition is important in gridiron but so is the appeal of being something new, of building a program up from the ground to something that could be competitive with the likes of Ramusok, Stoneshore, and the legendary Utica. If Raynor wants to shake that underdog and underperforming perception though, they have a huge game this week to try and bounce back from that stunning home opening loss as they travel to Ranoria and take on Cold Hill. Raynor will no doubt have watched the tape and saw how the Raiders were able to methodically pick apart Cold Hill, giving them that blueprint needed to try and get off the hump and back into the hunt for the conference rather than completely behind the eight ball just two games in.

South Bend, Saguenay :

It's very late in the night on Schwartz Stadium at Universite du Saguenay in South Bend. All the stadium lights were on, megaphones activated to maximum volume and snow falling before everybody's eyes.

Right on the field, seventy-two men aged between eighteen and twenty three were standing on practice field. Few men, some old and others young, were observing them carefully as they were able to look at the pale, milk-like colour of their breath as they exhaled. The snow was still falling before everybody's eyes and it was going to continue deep into the night, something that's typical of somewhere as north as northern Saguenay region, which is where we are at right now. There was a little to lose, but more to learn and practice in the spring football season, and the winter tends not to thaw in this time of the year. After flying on cloud 9 for last 4 years, Saguenay was going into the offseason with slight rebuilding and retooling for once, based largely around the loss of Dexter Ahn, the greatest quarterback in school history, a year ago to QFL.

The QIS season proved to be challenging for all those concerned, as they had known too well, but the positivity rallied around the continued development of Simon Gacek, a fireballer quarterback, and the Fighting Irish offensive and Defensive Lines that were flat-out brilliant in their departments. Heading this light of hope for future seasons was the freshman defensive end Yoan Black. Hailed as the number one defensive prospect in Honam Region after scoring 17 sacks in 10 games with Erskine Collegiate, Black continued his dominance with his freshman campaign where he racked up 10.5 sacks and won Chang Seob Shim award for RSECQ Rookie of the Year. His fame and pressure had grown a fair bit by the time he had entered spring season, but Black knew he has yet to reach the best - no, not even close to national career or season sack record he had in mind - and only focused on himself and those around him. It was hoped he'd be able to continue his, and his team's, journey to greatness.

Higher potential definitely meant higher expectations, though. If anything, coaches treated him even tougher because he was the sole freshman on starting lineup for the Fighting Irish all season. Coach Chang was less intimidating, but the new defensive coordinator, Pierre-Luc Woito, was a terrifying man. A former QFL linebacker of 6 years with an Imperial Bowl ring with Saint John Steelers, he quickly showed his coaching skills when he won two provincial titles as head coach of Gyeongbuk Collegiate Institute few years back, a Chicoutimi powerhouse high school significantly tied to the UdeS, and many of his students went on to play in the QIS level. So it was of no surprise that Coach Woito, who had used plenty of air miles and gave him his conditioning package from his QFL days, was especially sensitive about his protege's performance. Of course, being a quiet lad in general, Black did not complain. He knew he wasn't the only player on his team under greater scrutiny and won't be the only one either.

Right now, they were doing linemen drills, warming up to their challenging test against the team that knocked them out of conference and national championship hopes a year earlier, in the form of Universite St. Croix Bleu et Blanc. It would be a practical scrimmage where teams, divided in blue and gold, would play 8 12-minute scrimmages to engage themselves in possible gametime situations. Intensive and high-paced, they would be pushed through their physical limits.

The fifth scrimmage began with a 63 yard kickoff by freshman Georgy Lukacs, whose massive size and boomer of legs signalled the start of a new war. A war to replace and take over the fourth quarter for many, the one that would become nightmarish to shadow what they've achieved for the rest.

But what was going on around the pitch did not concern Yoan Black the slightest. A quiet philosophy student in his usual state, he stayed in his reclusive self, closing his eyes as he Yoan was sitting on his bench when he heard the whistle blow. Knowing that the drive ended rather quickly, meaning that the Team Gold were stuck deep into their zone, Yoan opened his eyes, slowly nodding to his heart and slowly walked into the turf. I'm going to make a play. He swore to himself. I could see it before my eyes, and it will happen.

The first two plays went by him like crazy. He did not remember much of it, like most other immemorable plays he had made in past, and all he recalled were his attempts to reach for the quarterback jamming up quickly, as Clarence Haymen, his best friend playing right tackle, quickly pushed and then got him in a chop block with ease. Then the second time, on a 5-2 formation, he placed himself on the right side, switching his position with Tyler Kweon to a right side defensive end for the match.

It was no good either. Facing him was one of the best left tackles in the country, Eli Rho, and like always he struggled to even push a centimetre on him, all before Simon made a 10 yard dump and catch to Han Yeong-Hwa, who made this look too easy by getting by both his linebackers before being stopped.

Yoan groaned, and coach Woito called a timeout. He knew it wasn't a good thing. Others were doing their respective jobs, but it was him who kept missing those assignments, the assignments he was widely expected to be successful in. And as he feared, Yoan was right. Coach Woito walked over to him and the linebackers coach Baek Sang-Joon, who knew that his superior was going to point something out and it wouldn't be pretty. Coach Woito grabbed his sunglasses and threw them aside, as he started screaming at his face. "Yoan Terrence Chancy Black! You're getting it wrong! You are fucking missing the push, you are missing the grip and now you're fucking missing the first steps to approach!" While Yoan was taller than him by fair bit, coach Woito looked like he was 9 feet tall with fury on his eyes. The look on his face was one of pure terror, the one that both got him motivated and scared him.

"Why are you doing that?" He yelled, right in his face.

"It's my fault for getting lazy, sir!" Yoan mumbled, now in slight sense of fear.

"Then why the fuck are you playing?!" Woito shouted, now with actual fire in his eyes. "Let's prove that you are a goddamn best motherfucking rookie in this country, 'cause else you aren't going to be my player. Get it?"

"Yes sir!" Nodding his head to no end, Yoan then saluted the coach in a military fashion, bowed to him three times before quickly running his way back to the field.

Fortunately for him, the next offensive play was lot easier to analyse for the defensive end from Kingston. Now on Team Gold 30, sophomore quarterback Simon Gacek had a huge eye for hail mary, as both tight ends and all 3 wide receivers were at line of scrimmage, ready to have a piece at a touchdown. Such a Gacek move, now that the O-Line has beaten me around a couple of times, Yoan said to himself as he got himself in the line of scrimmage. He could hear the breaths of everybody forming into white substances in the air like they're just part of the late winter snow in northern Saguenay, so beautiful yet disgusting and cold at the same time. Like that, he was at the end of final defence, especially since that none of the defensive backs were performing that well on either teams. It's been a firewagon game for both teams with such issues, so the only way this could be stopped would have to be the front seven play.

"Okey dokes," Simon said in an arrogant voice that always got to his head. "Mike, mike. 03 and 59. Mike, mike. 03 and 59." He said, pointing out the middle linebackers who were now making some incomprehensible noise. "Sataragate," He added, making sure the receivers knew the route they had to take, though in part this was his "Omaha" or "Valladar". Then he started his play call. "Okay. Down, set....HEUUUUUUUUT!"

The ball was snapped and everything was now in motion. Yoan kept his eyes on the Clarence, who almost immediately had the eye for the fellow freshman. He immediately approached him and give him a couple of quick tugs to get Yoan out of motion. However, this time it would work differently; Yoan quickly took a step back, did a 125 degree spin and then ran his way out of the significantly-oversized right tackle. Clarence would fall forward and then tried to climb his way back, but by then he knew he lost his coverage.

Now free and well underway, Black decided to keep his eyes on the quarterback. Simon was making his primary looks at Song and when realising that he was on double coverage, decided to throw the ball to Han, the next most reliable target by far. But he couldn't really throw him to either, so for a brief second he was hesitant in throwing the ball,as the senior tight end struggled with Vontaze Ahn covering him.

And in that moment of hesitation, all was finalised. Black reached for Simon and, with an easy reach, punched the ball away from the fireballer. And just as the quarterback would twist sideways and then in a desperate reach of the ball, he did his trademark spin around the back of the quarterback, grab the ball with his right and ran with it. He could hear the sound of those around him, Team Green coaches screaming the fuck out to hit the endzone and Team Gold in complete fury over such fallback, but did not care and just followed his instinct. He ran, ran, and ran like Forest Gump, before wheelbarrowing to land a fumble return six.

"Motherfucker! Yeah!" Coach Woito shouted in thick-accented English, the sign of his origins from the other side of the country. For the perfect strip and return he was very happy about it, that's for sure. Yoan Black was one of most talented defensive ends he's ever had to put his hands on and that included many in pros, so he had hoped this was a good sign. He first examined the defensive squad though, as the special teams entered the board. "You started a little bit late Antonio. You got pushed around early on by Sylvester and looked very slow to recover. Why don't we fuckin' change that so that you could be a starter?" Antonio Valdez growled as he watched Georgy land a PAT, leading him and some return team guys to come back and do the job. The highly-touted recruit coming out of Winnipeg, he had struggled to adjust to higher paced college game since and struggled to gain a starting spot; especially now that coach Woito brought 3-4, reducing the number of starters and his effectiveness. He knew Antonio was working on it though, and that coach Woito just wanted him to get ready in time for the very next year, when his one shot in QFL can be made with a great season come this fall.

The same mark was given to Clarence Hayman on the other side, as the backup centre now training as the right tackle heard plenty of bleeps and bloops in 30 seconds with coach Joel Rudd. Another of highly touted offensive line recruits coming to Saguenay to be coached into possible greatness under coach Desaulniers, he performed decently in 7 games he had played for Fighting Irish, including 1 where he started due to Sylvester Pythung having to fly back home for a family tragedy. But, during the offseason, he struggled to find his weight balance and speed, to the point where he had to find himself out of centre and had to be trained for right tackle. There he's not doing well, but not at a starter-level calibre by Desaulniers' eyes. Fortunately enough, he was willing to learn, even as he was called out for over 60 times a practice for missed steps, lack of speed in blocking faster Ends of Backers or getting chopped a couple of times against Han Jang-Soon like how he did back in 2nd and 3rd scrimmage an hour ago.

It was brutal. Hayman was adjusting well but his weight balance was still not working out the best and he's still performing like turds of Alianzas. But coaches were always merciful in Saguenay and Antonio would soon get one more set in a minute. And so would Clarence.

Fair Haven State University (ISL) 14–7 Loyola University (BNJ)

Jays, Panthers get first wins on the season

Northern Dinagat State and Fair Haven State both picked up their first wins of the season, though in entirely different ways.

The Panthers' used a smothering defense and twelve sacks - yes, twelve - to shut out Solomons Land City 23-0, on the strength of a fumble six, a 67-yard scamper by the senior running back, and field goals of 28, 40 and 64 yards.

Fair Haven took a hard fought contest over Loyola 14-7, after a 4th and goal stop from the 6 with two seconds remaining. Touchdown passes of 42 and 6 carried the Blue jays to the winners circle.

Governors Hold Cubs Without a Touchdown

John Garrett ignored the pain in his shoulder, picked up from a knock early in the game, the howling wind and the swirling wind to beat the University of Paulo in week 2. A very welcome result for the quarterback given the criticism of him in the Novumeran media in the days before the game.

'I loved coming here,' he said. 'The Cubs were really out to get me so it was good to get a win.' Playing with a separated shoulder in gales, Garrett threw an 11 yard touchdown to pass to Javier Gilmore as Richardson University made it two wins out of two yesterday evening.

In devastating fashion, the Governors brought Paulo back to earth after they won their first game against Zequoia State. Garrett sustained a separated shoulder in his first play of the game after a tackle from Marcus Sanford. But Farmboy didn't seem bothered as he completed 12 out of 19 for 186 yards.

Richardson's coach Richard Steinheil, after the game said, 'He's hurting pretty bad but he's a tough character. Is he 100% percent? No. But no one plays as hard as he does without getting banged up.' Garrett refused to discuss his injury. He wore a glove on his throwing hand to help him throw tight spirals in the powerful wind.

Ta'shaun Blue kicked a 48 yard field in tricky conditions and the Governors held off a late rally by the Cubs. Jeff Parks kicked field goals of 31 and 38 yards, the second one with 3:21 left to pull Paulo to 10-6. The host's coach Aran Atwood was counting on his defence getting the ball back but Garrett came up with the big play. He scrambled from pressure to buy some time and rifled a 19 yard pass to Johnny Farmer for a first down at midfield.

Melvin Strong broke free on a 19 yard run and Richardson ran out all but the final 26 seconds. Strong finished with 28 carries for 105 yards. Paulo got the ball back at the end but Coleman Linwood threw two incompletions and was sacked. 'We were inches away from beating these guys,' Cubs tight end Neil Payne said. 'Farmboy just came up with something at the end there. They are great.'

Paulo quarterback Linwood threw two interceptions, one setting up Garrett's scoring pass to Gilmore, and the second ended the host's best shot at a touchdown on the final play of the first half following some questionable clock management by Atwood. 'We shot ourselves in the foot,' Atwood said. 'We screwed it up. The story of the game was turnovers and penalties and they took advantage.'

One play after dropping a touchdown pass at the front of the end zone in traffic, Gilmore made up for it with an easy grab for six points in the second quarter. On third-and-nine, Gilmore got loose in Paulo's secondary, and with cornerback Comgal Tennison unable to catch him, Richardson's wideout had no trouble hauling in Garrett's pass for the game's first score.

The Governors' drive was helped by two penalties against the Cubs. The hosts finally got their offence going and crossed the midfield in the final two minutes of the first half. But with a chance to tie it, they bungled away their first scoring opportunity. Inside the visitor's 20, they fumbled a snap and were called for an illegal shift. The referee explained that Paulo had the option of having ten seconds run off or being charged with their final timeout. They elected to have the time taken off, leaving them with 44 seconds left.

Linwood completed a 9 yard pass to the 12, and the Cubs' quarterback quickly sneaked for a first down before they called their final timeout with 8 seconds left. Rather than kicking a field goal, Atwood sent Linwood and the offence back onto the field. Linwood, though, who needed to get the ball into the end zone threw short and the pass was picked off by diving safety Maxwell Blunt at the 3 to end the half. 'I ways so mad right there, it was a huge turnover, I had to control myself right there,' said Payne.

"JARRETT WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!?" Thorn Davis hurled his helmet to the ground after throwing his second interception of the game, and fifth on the year, his targeted wide receiver deciding to freelance rather than run his route. "THE HELL DID I TELL YOU IN FILM!? THE ONLY FUCKING TIME YOU RUN A GO ROUTE IF IT ISN'T CALLED IS IF THERE ISN'T A SINGLE FUCKING DEFENSIVE BACK ON YOUR HALF OF THE FIELD. THERE ARE THREE!"

In the fourth quarter, down ten to thirteen with ninety seconds on the clock and no time outs remaining, Jarrett Hauptmann had decided that the playcall wasn't quite to his liking.

Fourteen for nineteen, one touchdown, two interceptions, two hundred and fifty five yards. That's how this game would end for Thorn Davis, true freshman quarterback who was growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of discipline on his football team.

"You better watch your mouth, little white bi-" Just as Jarrett Hauptmann seemed to be about to strike his quarterback, Carl Amerson stepped in front, a junior who had just had the best statistical game of his career with a hundred and twelve yards along with a score. How had he accumulated those? Doing his job.

"Back off, Hauptmann. Maybe glance at the damn playbook before you start running your mouth."

It wasn't just him, either. Kevin Eakin, one of the most massive tackle prospects in Ranorian history, more often just simply run blocked than pass set, having allowed three sacks, alone, on the day. Freshman tight end Jabari McNair often neglected his own pass blocking duties, and it was all just one convoluted mess.

The true freshman wideout, and quarterback of the same class, stared each other down for another moment, neither saying a word, before trudging off to the sideline, knowing that the game had ended.

Angelo Gordon, their star outside linebacker, once again had a dominant performance, with 7 tackles, two for a loss, and two sacks, but it was all for naught. And the worst part was, he knew that if he were to slack off for any one play, then the holes left by the freshman would allow any offense to gash them on every play.

"Oh what the hell," Gordon muttered under his breath, watching as their hopes of a victory slipped away with a single kneel.

Kotaharapan — The Wyverns lost on the road yesterday to the University of Iqaluit, 9-20. Both offenses were more successful than in UArk's first outing, but the going was still tough as neither team cracked 400 offensive yards.

“We really struggled to move the ball, particularly past the fifty yard line,” head coach Dave Gruber said of the performance. “We didn't have trouble getting that initial first down, but things got harder the further we went.” Defensively, UArk coaches were not as pleased as their first game, but reviews were generally positive. Defensive coordinator Jack Kite said, “obviously, we allowed more points than we scored, but getting defensive points is always a plus.”

The safety in the third quarter certainly added some interesting elements to the game. Backed up deep in their own territory, Iqaluit made a safe call on a second and eleven at their own two, but the Wyvern defense had a jailbreak up front by bringing a surprise nine-man blitz. The running back was stuffed three yards deep, almost as soon as he took the handoff.

The disappointing result has not appeared to leave players discouraged. Wide receiver Allen Ready (senior) said, “we just have to come back next time more prepared. Our goal is to be one and oh every week, and we failed this time out. Next time, we get a chance to start over and be a better football team.”

Senior cornerback Roy Campos gave the Iqaluit offense fits, including his second interception of the year, which set up the Wyverns' sole touchdown of the game. “We had a good game on defense, we allowed some points, but the offense has to do something to get moving better if we're going to win games,” Campos said. “I'm not trying to pick on them or anything, but we got to do better than six points a game if we're gonna start winning.”

The Wyverns now sit at 1-1 in Woodlands and overall play. Coach Gruber's thoughts on the record? “If you're gonna mess up, best to get it out of the way early.”

THEREISNOGODISTAN COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
OFFICIAL TEAM SHEET

Thereisnogodistan County is a county in the Abanhfleft colony of the Fhulghamous Peninsula. It was established on November 30, 2014 from the splitting of Haritzaga County, by Colonial Executive Order No. 190047. The southern part of the county retained the name and history of Haritzaga County, while the northern part was named Thereisnogodistan County. The county seat is Thereisnogodabad.

Thereisnogodistan County Community College is an American football team based in Thereisnogodabad, Fhulghamous Peninsula. Its home ground is Richard Dawkins Park, a 23,171-seater park named after the prominent atheist Richard Dawkins, which is also currently the home ground of Fleftic Premier League team Thereisnogodistan F.C. Even though it is a college team, Thereisnogodistan Community College has participated in the World Bowl many times and even came out runners-up in the last-ever edition of the Baptism of Iron, and World Bowl XXVIII.

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of team:
Thereisnogodistan FC
Team colors: Yellow shirt, pants, socks, and helmet (home); white shirt, pants, socks, and helmet (away)
Style modifier: +3.5. Thereisnogodistan is inspired by Fleftic sporting philosophy in that the best defense is offense.
Manager: Francois-Michel Nkong'o (Abanhfleft, 46 years old)

HOME STADIUM
Image
Richard Dawkins Park will serve as Thereisnogodistan's home stadium for the entirety of NSCF 14. It currently seats 23,171 people.

NOTES: Since Thereisnogodistan County Community College is a small college, the team will not have as many reserves as they would like, and therefore injuries are very much not good for the team. An injury might force a safety to become a temporary quarterback, and such cross-position training is not very popular within Abanhfleft's sporting systems. Also, Kelly Profit will be the first female to ever play in Thereisnogodistan's American football program, and she will play as quarterback for the Atheists, replacing the graduating Harrison Aumann.

"I'll be good to go next week, I hope." John Garrett raised his arm, visibly wincing once it went above his shoulder, "It's the AC joint, or something. So nothing too serious." The farmboy continued to flip through channels, trying to find something that was at least slightly interesting, ignoring the cold of the ice on the injured shoulder.

"Hey, go back there for a second." Johnny Farmer's voice rang out as he pulled a pair of frozen pizzas out of the oven, stacking them atop one another and taking a bite out of both at the same time, and proceeding to talk with his mouth full, "Look at that, those Cold Hill guys look like they want to kill each other."

Indeed, Thorn Davis and Jarrett Hauptmann seemed to be ready to start swinging, only to be broken up by some no-name upperclassman wideout. "Seriously, I thought they'd give us a run for the big eight, but at this rate, they won't win a game. They've got a lot of questions to answer before they can even step on the field, to challenge us for the conference? They'd have to win out, or at least come close. Hopefully they're still split next week, I'd rather not take a loss at home, to be quite honest."

Suddenly, Johnny Farmer's phone began to buzz, cutting off their conversation. "Oh shoot, that's coach."

His quarterback turned the volume down on the television, still watching intently, not focusing on the conversation that was going on behind him.

I'm sure that you heard Emmanuel will be down for at least four weeks.

"Yeah, high ankle sprain, right?"

Johnny, I was thinking of playing you at defensive and tight end these next few weeks. You know our defense is based on pressure, and I'm not sure there's anyone else who can step in and play for him.

"..."

There was a pause. Playing two ways? Sure, he'd been a stud linebacker in high school, twice racking up a hundred tackles in a single season, but to do that at the college level? That was a death wish.

Not that he had much of a choice.

"Alright, I'll give it a shot."

Johnny Farmer looked back, "What was that all about?"

"Well, looks like I'm playing two ways this week."

The story of Banija's exile from and return to the NSCF

Image
Banijan College Sports Group Executive Chairman Wassa Corr after the vote that allowed Loyola and Northern back into the NSCF after a 2 year hiatus

BUSUKUMA- Of course, the vast majority of the stories regarding the NSCF are reported from either Istria or Herzegovina City, the home cities of Banija's two universties that participate in NSCF competition- the University of Loyola-Istria and Northern Moravica University, respectively. But, as promised, we are taking a full, in-depth look at why exactly the two Banijan schools left the NSCF, and what was able to faciliate their return. After a number of interviews, it was ultimately a story of politics, money, and power at the highest levels that made the decisions here.

Part 1- Move from Domestic College Football to the NSCF

The BCSG, of course, is the Banijan College Sports Group, which is the governing body for all collegiate sports within the Kingdom of Banija. It is, of course, a non-profit group, and it has been led by Executive Chairman Wassa Corr, who began running the organization 8 years ago, coinciding with the NSCF 10 season for our international readership. He has largely been an ambitious Chairman, and his role, of course, is to make sure that sports are run fairly, for everybody, and there is a prosperous environment in Banija for schools to compete in many different sports.

However, while the Board was unanimous in allowing Northern Moravica to begin play in the Celestia Conference in NSCF 12, Wassa Corr was quietly against this move. He didn't dare speak publicly, as it would show a loss of influence that the Board went against the recommendation of their own Executive Chairman. But the state of the sport in Banija, at the time, almost forced their hand. At that point in time, Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria were far too dominant. The schools between them had combined for the last 6 national championships in the organization's biggest sport, gridiron football, and there was a gulf in class glowing between the two rivals and the rest of the BCSG. Something needed to happen.

Wassa Corr's reasoning against this move was that this would hurt the competitiveness of college football in Northern Moravica. The national governing board for the sport of gridiron football in Banija supported the move, as they felt giving Banijan players exposure to international competition earlier would help improve the national team. It worked, of course, as the Banijan national team went to semifinals in three consecutive World Bowl tournaments.

Northern Moravica was an unmitigated success. They immediately hired a foreign coach, the Defensive Coordinator of the NSCF 11 champions Stoneshore College, his name Horace Browning, as the Head Coach of the program. He, of course, hired local coaches as his coordinators. His first two seasons were unqualified successes, with a pair of Celestia Conference championships and two playoff berths to show for it. Of course, in NSCF 13, Loyola joined the fray. While they had adjusting to do in their first season, they flew to a NSCF championship in NSCF 14, winning it at Liberty Stadium in Istria.

OF course, while Banijan teams were largely succeeding at the international level, this started to cause some problems at home. These teams were making more and more money, and due to lack of revenue sharing, that money was being spread across other sports. As they poured football money into basketball facilities, soccer facilities, etc.. member of the group felt as if their schools were being disadvantaged.

Part 2- Revokal of BCSG Membership

Right after the end of NSCF 14, with Loyola freshly celebrating their title won in their own city, the BCSG held a meeting. They would pass a bylaw to reign in the arrogant schools from Moravica. An amendment to the bylaws was passed, stating that 'all members of the BCSG must have all sports teams participate in BCSG competition'. The long and short of it, however, basically meant that if either school wanted to play at home domestically in any other sports, their football teams would have to join local competition.

There was anger in Moravica, and it pitted the country against each other on a regional basis. Many people were angry that this was allowed to happen- why take them out of the NSCF when they were at the height of their success, with seemingly more coming? But at the same time, the counter-argument was strong. Having two teams participate in international competition gave them an unfair money advantage over everybody else. Eventually, they'd build larger facilities, and simply have more resources, than everybody else. People simply wouldn't want to go to their schools, and not just for football. It would effect sports from basketball and soccer, all the way down to gymnastics. It was a question of survival.

And, of course, recruiting domestically would be tougher. While these two schools would start being the preferred destination of certain schools, other NSCF schools would also start to recruit in Banija. Would the domestic talent pool shrink? Would there be less options for home-grown players at the expense of foreign born players? The debate was fierce, but the move was made.

Part 3- Agreement and Return

After the school Presidents of both schools, and even the Mayor of Istria himself got involved, the move was not revoked. They went back to domestic competition. Of course, the two former NSCF schools met in the championship game coinciding with NSCF 15, and Loyola pulled off the victory. In the season coinciding with NSCF 16, however, the two schools stated that they would enter into negotiations with the rest of the BCSG so that they could re-enter the NSCF starting in the upcoming season. Two major developments, of course, made this possible.

The first event, was Kizza I College's magical run through the playoffs. Kizza I College defeated Loyola-Istria in the national semifinal, and then in the national championship, they defeated Northern Moravica in Busukuma. This was a shock, of course, but this probably persuaded the rest of the BCSG that they were not down and out yet. They could still compete with the two NSCF schools, even on the field, as one school took both down back to back. The Kizza I College Cubs paved this path for the Banijans.

The other, of course, was the original sticking point in the first place- money. After discussions, they discussed serious revenue sharing proposals with the rest of the BCSG. The value of the TV contracts for Loyola and Northern Moravica contracts was huge for individual schools, and they, of course, were eating out of the TV contracts offered to the rest of the BCSG. The fundamentals of the deal were like this.

1. Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria will be the only two schools allowed to compete in the NSCF(therefore preventing further expansion into the BCSG).
2. Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria agree to each share 60% of TV revenues from NSCF competition with the rest of the BCSG
3. Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria agree to take only 50% of TV revenues that they are otherwise entitled to for all other BCSG sports.

Preventing futher expansion into the country, and, most importantly, giving the BCSG the right to 60% of the TV revenues. While this portion was small, once it was divided among the 60 other member schools, that means that each school got 1% of NSCF TV revenue that was not in the NSCF. And, of course, the money advantage would be mitigated further by both schools taking less non-football money, therefore creating a level playing field.

The Ts were crossed and the I's were dotted. All relevant schools signed, and the two schools were officially allowed to compete in the NSCF again. Executive Chairman Wassa Corr, though he was heavily defeated in this debacle as he unsuccessfully tried to end Banija's partnership with the NSCF, nonetheless kept his position after allgedly being supported by the Athletic Directors of both NSCF schools for being a 'fair negotiator' and being willing to change his mind on the issue.

Ultimately, the road was long and tough, but Banija is back in the NSCF, and this time, they are here to stay for good.

Celestia Conference Week 2 Roundup

Northern Dinagat State picked up their first victory of the season, a hard-fought home win over Solomons Land City College, by a score of 23-0. That means the team from Solomon has been outscored 67-0 to start the season, and they are the odds-on very early favorites to finish last in the Celestia Conference.

Fair Haven State picked up their first victory of the season as well, bouncing back from a week 1 loss in Herzegovina City to defeat the NSCF 14 champions Loyola by a final score of 14-7. The Loyola offense, which looked so good against Solomons Land City College, couldn't do anything. They were shutout, and their only points came from special teams, with a 99 yard kickoff return for a touchdown by freshman Kostas Costas in the 3rd quarter, after a 42 yard touchdown pass made it 14-0. Loyola had 300 yards of total offense, but had 4 turnovers on the Fair Haven side of the 50 yard line. They had one good drive at the very end of the game, but Isaka Jawara threw an incomplete pass on 4th and goal with 2 seconds remaining for the hosts to seal their victory. Loyola will host Coral Coast in their next game.

Northern Moravica are the conference's last undefeated team, as they went away from home to beat Coral Coast University by a score of 23-0. The development of Bastiaan Rodo is progressing well, as he threw a touchdown pass to Dobromir Margolin and had two unlucky interceptions, both off of deflections. Freshman running back Beluchi Okparro also scored from 14 yards out, and that was in addition to 3 field goals by senior kicker Hadgu Beheilu, who hit one from 35, another from 38, and a third from 53. He also missed one from 49 that hit the post on the last play of the first half. This means the Cougars, are alone atop the conference at 2-0, and after two weeks, are the only team in the conference with a road win. Northern Moravica will host Northern Dinagat State in their next game.

The Vanderleigh Saga

Chapter Two

New West Gallia, Present Day

Tevin ‘Showtime’ Vanderleigh was the latest prototype flanker recruit in the Gallian Union, and in Gallian football, a flanker like that was his team’s greatest weapon. He was the player that could line up in the spots of a tight end, a wide receiver, or a halfback. He could carry the ball and bounce to the outside with speed and agility that few could match, or he could run over the middle and catch passes underneath. When he was at tight end, he often faked blocks and went for wide open passing routes that led to touchdowns.

His running was more like a dance. Left, right, and then left. He’d be off in the distance, and once he was past the defense, they wouldn’t be catching him. And it wasn’t like he was the fastest, but it was hard to tackle him when he was right in front of you. He was the kind of player that could dance out of a sure tackle, and if you missed, he wasn’t going to give a second chance. Many said that bringing Tevin Vanderleigh down was like trying to catch oil, but he didn’t like that analogy. If someone was tackling him in the first place, it meant that he hadn’t been able to evade.

Now, his team needed him more than ever. Down by six points with two minutes remaining. New West Gallia North was the top team in the country, but they were on path to get upset 16-10 by city rivals Capital Prep. Tevin had produced their one touchdown of the night, which had come off of a screen play, and now he was going to have to get the game winner. “It’s third and two, from the North forty five yard line,” said the stadium announcer, and Tevin followed the team into the huddle and got the play. They were going to go all out to get him a big play.

“Sounds good, Tevin?” asked his offensive coordinator, and he nodded.

“I’m going to get us the winner if the blockers do their job.”

And so they lined up in the shotgun formation, making it look like they were going to pass, but that formation changed once they snapped the ball. The quarterback didn’t take a drop, but tossed the ball to Tevin, who waited for about a second before taking off behind the pulling left tackle and the pulling right guard. The left tackle and center both took on two defenders each, holding them up long enough for Tevin to take off downfield.

One of the receivers threw a chop block on the weak side linebacker, and only the secondary was left to beat. The whole stadium was already standing, and Tevin could see the band in the end zone celebrating already. They knew that when he was one on one with a safety like this, it was automatic. The safety was coming aggressively at him, but he barely lost speed as he feinted to the left and took off to the right, blowing by and running into the end zone after the fastest momentum shift of the game. He ran in front of the few TV cameras that were around, and he celebrated by running a finger along his mouthpiece, which was blue and read ‘SHOWTIME’ in a gold script font.

“That’s why they call me Showtime!” he shouted, pointing to the sky as he ran back to his teammates. When they kicked the extra point, they’d be up by one and would safely escape this game with a home win against a rival. And once again, he strengthened his position as the best recruit to come out of Gallia this year, one that was supposed to be good enough to attract recruitment from international teams. It was why he was going to become the next big name in his family, but for reasons unrelated to the politics that had made others in his family famous.

***

It wasn’t long after the game when the North players were getting ready to head back to their homes, but Tevin found himself getting stopped when he was walking to the parking lot by himself, his bag thrown over his shoulder and his headphones on. “Tevin! Can I talk to you for a minute?” some girl asked, and he figured she was just another fan trying to get a picture of an autograph.

He shrugged and stopped. “Sure, you looking for a picture?”

“Actually, I just want to talk for a minute. I’m here on behalf of Lindon Technical. We’re interested in recruiting you, as you know, but you should know that our sponsor, Baron Enterprises, also has a few gifts for you. Some team branded gear from the new Smoke Sports collection, which by the way, is still unreleased,” said the girl, giving him a pitch like a used car salesman. “I’m also supposed to invite you formally to check out our campus. Our main recruiter will be in touch with that, but if you ever decide to come, make sure you help them out by telling them that you want to see Charlotte.”

“Plenty of schools have sent me stuff already, it’s not like you’re doing something special,” Tevin said, pulling his headphones back and raising an eyebrow. “You’re not the first one to invite me for a campus tour, either, though I admit you Tech people are persistent even though I’ve said that your team has no history.”

“Well, we admit that, but we’re asking that you come make history with us. You won’t just be another big player, you can be the only big player. You’d be the first major recruit that our team has signed. Also, I can promise that our tour is better than anyone else’s. We’re the only one with a campus that just had a complete overhaul.”

“Do I even want to play for a school that hasn’t ever signed a big recruit? They’d lose all the time.”

“But we’ve won our first two games in the Mineral Conference. Where we play teams from all over, and not just Gallia. We have good coaching and we have a good quarterback here already. We got some transfers from decent teams, too. We also have a lot of funding coming from our owner-”

“A college having an owner is kind of stupid, you know.”

“Well, it’s letting us grow despite not having a ton of history as a big school, so is it really a bad thing? Don’t hate on it unless you actually come to campus and see what it’s like.”

Tevin rolled his eyes, but shrugged. “I’ll think about it. Thanks for the stuff, I guess,” he said as Charlotte handed him the bag that had the Smoke Sports things. This was breaking some kind of rule, he assumed, but then again, who wasn’t? And it wasn’t like someone from his family would look out of place wearing unreleased designer clothes. He looked inside the bag once he got to his car, and after digging through it, realized that there was something else in here. He moved the clothes out of the way, and saw that there were several bundles of cash at the bottom of the bag.

So that was how it was with Lindon Tech. He began to wonder just how much cash he could get out of them if he showed some interest in joining their team.
