Not really. I carried both the MK14 and the 240. er have used .30-06 all the way up to the Vietnam War. The only real problem would be weight and a lot can't handle recoil of .30-06, but as a select issue weapon in a Platoon it would be a fine compliment to both 5.56 and 7.62Nato.
It appears that the army is aiming to replace the M4 with a 7.62 weapon.
