His Glorious Majesty, the Emperor Valerion III Vaegalis vay Anogaryen, Anointed of the gods and champion of Ashrykos has the divine right to take as many women as he desires for his brides. Furthermore, it is customary for the Emperor to take a sister as a wife to father a primary line of pureblooded children. His Majesty currently has two wives, both of whom are sisters by blood to him. The eldest of these is Rhaessa vie Anogaryen, and she holds the illustrious title of Grand Imperial Consort. She has mothered five of the Emperor's eleven trueborn children, including the Emperor's heir, Vaelyx Valerialis vay Anogaryen, and a daughter whom Vaelyx has wed, Alysanne. Alysanne will become the Grand Imperial Consort once Vaelyx ascends.

The younger of his two sister-wives, Saenera, has mothered the remaining six of His Majesty's trueborn children.

On top of this, Valerion has access to the Imperial Harem, a concubinage of nobleborn women who offer their services to the reigning Emperor. Nine concubines are known, though there are likely more, all of whom are young women drawn from noble families, usually the youngest daughters in order to permit the family to utilise it's eldest daughter and son for incestuous breeding and maintain the pureblood. These Imperial Concubines are not wives of the Emperor, but are held by the same laws of adultery, only to a harsher degree. An Imperial Concubine who accepts the advances of another man can very well be executed. Thus these women are kept under guard, as well as in a chamber of the Great Pyramid known as the Sanctum of the Emperor's Comfort.

Other male members of the Imperial family keep women from pureblooded families, noble or not, as their concubines, utilising them solely for pleasure than to father children, for which they have their wives. Vaelyx for example has one sister-wife and three concubines, one of whom is actually descended from another Anogaryen Emperor via an Imperial Concubine who fell pregnant.

The illustrious & immortal ruler of the Isle of Shrodashi, Potentate Lexetal (trans: Timeless Great), has only one wife - by the title & name of Imperatrix Lexegrel (trans: Lovely Great), but maintains a harem. However, this a Blood Harem, for the purpose of vampiric consumption rather than the sating of sexual urges. While some of the vampires of Shrodashi might also use their harem for that second purpose, Lexetal has no such urges and thus no reason to use it as such. Indeed, the marriage of Potentate Lexetal and Imperatrix Lexegrel was largely a political one, to unify the highest administrative office (Potentate) with the highest military office (Imperator/trix).

As such: monogamous.
