Chester Bennington of Linkin Park Dead at 41

Chester Bennington, the ferocious lead singer for the platinum-selling hard rock band Linkin Park, has died. He was 41.

Brian Elias, the chief of operations for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, confirmed the death and said it was being investigated as an apparent suicide. Mr. Elias said that law enforcement authorities responded to call shortly after 9 a.m. Pacific Time and were conducting a death investigation in Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles County.

I don't know Linkin Park's music well but I hate to see a talent go so young.

I can't say I'm a big fan of Linkin Park, although I did like some of their early stuff, but it is a shame when skilled performers die. The fact that it appears to be a suicide only deepens the tragedy and my thoughts are with the Bennington family.

This is another unfortunate example of the work that still needs to be done with regards to the prevention of suicide.

If I were not in the middle of a long workday, I would be mourning.

"In the End" was my first favorite of theirs back in the day, to the point where I bought the CD (Hybrid Theory). That entire album is good. But probably my favorite of theirs (that I've heard) was "Running From Me." (Also kinda a personal theme song of sorts.)

Rest in Peace, Mr. Bennington. You are already missed on this world.

It's really been hard to process loss for me. Is he my first childhood icon to pass away? No. But like he was one of the first people I can actually remember looking up to. I have memories of being like 9 years old and watching the video for Breaking the Habit on repeat the day it came out, and I had a whole Linkin Park theme going on with my AIM account.

Linkin Park is actually some of the first music I can ever remember liking. And although I didn't remain a fan of their newer stuff (A Thousand Suns is around when I stopped following them closely) I still have always respected Chester Bennington as an extremely talented musician.

And it's just so unexpected. This isn't someone who's career has been long over, they were about to start a tour. I can't imagine what it's like for his family, and the band he's been with for 20 years.

The man made his choice, for reasons his own, so there isn't really anything to mourn about. Rather, I think, people ought to celebrate his legacy and rejoice that such a man once lived to create it.

I have a Linkin park poster and two Linkin park T-shirts and can recite most of their songs. Words cannot describe what a foreign feeling I am experiencing right now. Its like a part of my childhood died today.

I haven't like Linkin Park's newer stuff. But they were one of my favorite bands and now that Chester Is gone It's gonna feel weird whenever I listen to Linkin Park, knowing that he's dead. I am still listening to the video they put on youtube just hours before they found Chester dead. Talking To Myself just reminds me how much I really loved the band and Chester. And yesterday would have been Chris Cornell's birthday. Cornell was a good friend of Bennington and I think that Cornell's suicide may have caused Bennington's. I'm not saying It did just what I think. But still RIP to one of the greatest singers. RIP Chester Bennington 3/20/76 - 7/20/17

Good band with lots of solid songs. They weren't my favorite, but I will say I could relate and appreciated a good portion of their music. Mr. Bennington is also from my hometown so he was always here performing concerts. He'll be missed, damn good guy.

After Cornell, this is yet another shock.

TMZ says his suicide was performed in much the same way as his friend Chris Cornell.

Linkin Park was one of my favorite bands when I was in college -- partly because they made good music, but also because they seemed like cool people when I saw them in interviews or "making of" shows about their music videos. It really is sad to see Chester die this young, especially if it was suicide.

I remember one interview where someone asked him what he thought about fans who saw him as a role model: He said it was nice when people admired him or found his music inspirational or that sort of thing, but when he met someone who had copied his whole look with the same clothes, same haircut, even the same tattoos, he thought it was sad that they didn't want to be themselves. If he didn't want to be himself either, even with all the talent and success he had, that's just terrible.

I'm wearing one of their t-shirts by sheer dumb luck. Picked it out of the closet before I heard the news... They've always had good t-shirt designs.

honestly I would be surprised If the band even continues after this. Linkin Park just won't be Linkin Park In my head without Chester.
