Do you really think that Donald Trump, a real-estate mogul and reality TV star with no particular experience or education in the fields of politics or the law, could write the best legal document ever? Or even a halfway decent one? Do you really think he could sit down for hours on end to work on writing a Constitution without turning on cable news and spending the rest of the night rage-tweeting at CNN?

Since we are re writing the constitution, how about all 50 state governors make up a council of governors with one President and Vice President chosen by the governors or elected by the people from the council of governors.

govern the nation, like any President, lol. or be elected by the people from the council of governors. The poins is all governors would have a say and or approval or not on the laws passed by congress.

If you're going to be rewriting the Constitution to create a council of governors and a president of the council then you would want to specify exactly what the powers of that council and its president are.

Well it sounds more or less like the Senate, just half the size and made up of people who'll have to govern a state and represent it in Washington.

Yes, but if someone is guilty of truly heinous crimes (murder, genocide, child rape, terrorism) they shouldn't be able to say "I plead the fifth" and get away without testifying to their crimes. So you edit the fifth amendment, keep the "good stuff" and ditch the stuff that protects child rapists and people who commit treason from going to jail.

That seems like a reasonable compromise.

Innocent until proven guilty is a thing. Therefore, how could you compel someone to testify against themselves unless you had ALREADY proven their guilt? And if that was the case, wouldn't their testimony be irrelevant?

Yes but we would still need a house of representatives by proportional representation of population to balance the council of governors, and the president and vice president chosen by the people from the council of governors.

One of the powers of the council of governors would be to be able to propose separately or as a group legislation to the house of representatives, and vice versa for the house of representatives to the council of governors. The question would be should the council of governors have the powers of the senate in deciding final legislation, or just advice legislation, which can be vetoed by the President and over vetoed by the house of representatives? Should the President have a line item veto? In this form of government or in any form of government ? I would favor a line item veto for the President.

Our experience as a nation has shown that general principles form a more effective guide for future actions than do the micromanagement of specific instructions. Times change, unforeseen circumstances arise. Adaptability needs to be built in.

I would put procedural due process first, and then voting rights. With those firmly in place, the rest can be handled.

I would put gun ownership on an equal par with free speech and the right of assembly. I would make it clear that freedom of religion does not mean a condemnation of religion but simply that all believers and nonbelievers can take part in the marketplace of ideas on an equal footing.

I would like to see some principles more strictly enforced. If someone violates this right and it affects you, you may sue them and make them pay you AND pay your attorney. We already do this for some civil rights violations and it is a capable self-enforcing system that requires little bureaucracy.

As an example, we have too many ex post facto laws, which are unconstitutional. A local industry produced a chemical which was approved by the EPA, but after many years it was found to be harmful. Suddenly citizens and politicians are demanding huge fines based on past practices which had at the time been governmentally approved. People who violate ex post facto laws should be severely fined.
"Life is difficult".

I don't think they'd include an amendment that would outright dismantle the Republican party.
