Introduction's Theme
Contradiction. From the Latin noun, contradictio. Meaning, from the Merriam-Webster dictionary of the English language, an act or instance of contradicting; a proposition, statement, or phrase that asserts or implies both the truth and falsity of something; a logical incongruity. The best example of a contradiction: Humanity.
Sometime in the early 2700's, scientists finally decided that the pollution and environmental abuse had caused irreversible damage to the Earth's atmosphere and environment. The ozone layer seemed to have been recovering hundreds of years ago, but with the deterioration of Sol and an increase of industrial production in the Third World Countries, the progress soon dissipated and its condition was now worse than ever. Due to that, the Greenhouse Effect had slowly been increasing to the point that the scientists theorized the entirety of Earth's ice caps would melt by the 3000's, leaving massive amounts of what was now highly inhabited coastline underwater. It was because of the complete and utter agreement of the scientific community along with the persuasion of many different companies that the decision was made,
in many countries, to do the impossible: To change what it means to be human and leave Earth behind forever.
The year 2976: The first Arc ships, made by the Coalition of European and American Nations, leave the planet with massive amounts of population aboard, leaving behind only the old, infirm, and poor.
3000 C.E.: The Shanghai Co-Operative Sphere for the Survival of the Asian Cultures send their own highly advanced arc ships into the unknown, bringing with them the best and brightest and leaving behind, again, the old, infirm, poor, and politically dissonant.
In the year 3145, the polar ice caps had fully melted, most of the Mediterranean countries were now underwater, the Sahara had been flooded back into a massive lake, and it was officially declared by the remaining countries that Earth was unsuitable for continued habitation of such a large population. Those who remained that could afford passage on the new breed of Arcs would report to the nearest stations, most of which were now in Africa, the richest continent on the planet and the most inhabited. Those that could not...
Those that could not would be left behind.
In their rush to create a perfect world, to live in decadence and pleasure, Humanity had destroyed their first and, possibly, only home. They had created great machines to abuse it, praised it in their art and culture, but in the end, nothing they could do could save it. And so, in their destruction of the world, they created their future in the black nothingness of space, wishing to create again, trying to escape their nature. Humanity at its core is a contraction: They create only to destroy; they destroy only to create. They put the two words in a dichotomous relationship and then destroy that very relationship with their very existence. Humanity can never escape their nature, only accept it.
While Humanity destroyed Earth, that very same Earth did not destroy what was left of her children. Those left behind did not disappear into the dust that the others created. Remnants of the cities of the world were soon morphed into massive megalopolises as the poor and downtrodden poured into them to create sanctuaries and reform society. They would not die, they would not fail, and many thought they would rise from the ashes on their own arc like a Phoenix, showing their long lost cousins that the poor are not to be forgotten. But soon, as the daily grind took over and society was once again reformed, the grudges and trespasses of those long gone are forgotten. As those on Earth moved on, scavenging from the ruins of the Old World and living in the massive cities of high-tech scrap, even the Stars were forgotten thanks to haze and smog that was now their sky. But it was simply quid pro quo...
For the Stars had forgotten Earth as well.
It's the year 670 A.F.D, or After Final Departure, and in the city of Neo-Kiev there is a single woman who remembers the stars. A single woman with the resources, determination, and single-mindedness to make the first space ship on Earth in 600 years, to gather a crew, and to throw all caution to the wind in the hopes of a better life among the stars.
Her name is Anastasiya Kuznetsov.
And you're a part of the idealistic, ingenious, amazing, psychotic, crazy, insane flying psyche ward she calls a crew.
Welcome aboard the Navi's Gate, traveler. We hope you find what you're looking for among the Stars.
Greetings
As I said above, welcome to Navi's Gate, or rather, the Pointless Odyssey of Navi's Gate! This is a little side project I came up with because a certain someone cough, CC, cough thought I couldn't just make up an entire RP based on one picture. So I did to prove that person wrong and fell slightly in love with the world I made along the way. Instead of letting this project fall by the wayside and disappear into whatever void forgotten projects fall into, I've decided to OP this and let all of you that want to mess around inside. Isn't that generous of me!? Just kidding, darling, I know it's generous of you for considering even being here, so thank you!
Anyway, on to what this RP is about.
PONG, as I like to call it, is a story about an incompetent captain and her fairly competent crew escaping from the surface of scarred Earth to live a better life among the stars. They have no idea what's up there or what has become of the previous arc ships and yet they have hope that whatever is up there is light-years beyond what they could have on Earth. No part of the RP takes place on Earth's surface except for some part of the introduction and players get free reign after leaving the stratosphere. Kinda symbolic of the characters getting new life, hmm? Also, all characters got on the crew by being personally selected by Ana and recruited in person. Anyway, it's a sandbox RP that takes place on the Navi's Gate and whatever space stations or planets they dock/land upon. The Captain doesn't exercise any real control over what people do and effectively the job of each person on the ship is to make any money they can to contribute to the refueling and repair of the ship. Basically, Kuznetsov wants the crew to do odd jobs on the planet, make a profit, and a certain percentage of the profit goes to the ship fund. This allows me to allow the players, you, to come up with any sort of quest line you want to do and me to hold my own main quest line for the planet that can be worked into it. And of course there's an over-arcing story that will eventually be introduced, it has something to do with an evil alien race from beyond the edge of the galaxy or something equally sci-fi. Imagine a combination of Cowboy Bebop and Firefly and you'll get the basic idea.
