History: In 1225, Lord Christophoros Kalixenis was named Byzantine ambassador to the Viking king of Norway. Lord Christophoros remained in Norway for 25 years and during his time there, he learned of the mythical Viking land known as Vinland. He committed the knowledge to his son who in 1254, upon his father's death, convinced the Byzantine Emperor to grant him a small fleet of 3 ships to go and explore Vinland. Guided by Viking navigators, Kalixenis made his way to the Vinland and was disappointed by what he found. Terrified to Constantinople, Kalixenis and his fleet continued sailing south, exploring the entire east coast of North America. In 1255, they landed in Florida and built the small outpost of Theotokia and they made contact with the Miami tribe of Native Americans. At Theotokia, he left a garrison of 30 men In the following year, Kalixenis successfully crossed the Atlantic and sailed through the Pillars of Hercules (Gibraltar). However, he was arrested by the Roman authorities in Spain who demanded to know how he had come from "the end of the world". He was imprisoned in Rome in a comfortable house and he was forced to reproduce his maps of the explored regions he had drawn. During his time in prison, Kalixenis managed to smuggle a copy of his map home to Constantinople as well as a letter explaining the situation to the Emperor. In 1260, after much diplomatic haggling with his Western counterpart, the Byzantine Emperor managed to secure Kalixenis' release. In 1261, Kalixenis convinced the emperors of both Roman Empires to allow him to lead a joint expedition to the "New World". He returned to Theotokia in that same year with supplies and more people. In 1264, Kalixenis returned to Europe having mapped the entire Caribbean and asked for colonists and missionaries be sent that outposts be established. In 1266, he returned and more colonies were built in Florida, as well as Cuba and San Dominguo. As time passed, more and more colonists arrived and the territory under the control of "New Rome" as the colony was known increased.

By Kalixenis's death in 1299, New Rome extended throughout the Caribbean and had its easternmost border at the Mississippi river and its northermost border in Georgia. Kalixenis's son, Ioannis Kalixenis took over administration of the colony. By this same point, disease was spreading throughout the American continents, killing most of the Native population. Ioannis' conquest of the Mayan Civilization and other Mexican Native empires (1304-1320) was almost bloodless. By this time, Byzantine colonists had become by far the majority in the New World as the Western Empire had sent fewer colonists in the first place. Using the gold and building materials discovered in Mexico, Ioannis began to fund the workings of the colony.

Due to the fact that the Roman Empire was closer in proximity geographically to the New World than the Byzantines, the colony of New Rome moved closer politically to the Roman Empire. In 1420, the Roman Empire granted the Kalixenis family was given hereditary governorship of New Rome in return for swearing loyalty to the Roman Emperor. In 1522, in order to keep the Byzantine colonist population allegiant, Viceroy Alexandros Kalixenis (reigned: 1493-1527) proclaimed religious loyalty to the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople as opposed to the Pope in Rome. This angered the Roman Emperor who deposed Alexandros who replaced him with a Papist Viceroy. This triggered massive riots throughout the colony and the Emperor reinstated Alexandros in 1524, and the Byzantine colonists were soothed. In 1600, Viceroy Mikhalis Kalixenis was allowed to establish a colonial militia, which over time came to largely replace the Roman Imperial garrison.

New Rome has grown into a massively prosperous nation with a politically reclusive elite, growing increasingly out of touch with the population. At the same time, the nation is experiencing massive amounts of economic prosperity and industrialization with a new middle class emerging socially and economically with their own needs and values.

After the Great Hayam Wuruk died, Majapahit power entered somewhat a period of decline. While he sire no son from his previous marriage that devastated Majapahit with long civil war like in RL, his successor Wikramawardhana still proven to be a lesser king than his predecessor, inept in maintaining good diplomatic relation with his vassals. His reign saw some pretty huge and strong rebellion in Sumatra, Borneo, and Sunda thanks to this. Before he manage to put down one in Sunda however, he died from poison, probably put to his drinks by his own wife, and made the crown fell from him to his oldest kid, a 13 year old son. His wife, Kusumawardhani, act as regent and know that Sunda will be forever thorn to her empire. She then wage an brutally effective counter against the rebellion, and will be forever known as Empress of Java after she finally stab the Sundanese General herself, put the end to the conflict, and use the crushing of Sunda rebellion as a pretext to annex the neighboring kingdom, making the core region of Majapahit Kingdom stretch from one side of Java to another.

She then turn her eyes west towards Sultanate of Malacca. While the kingdom has been one of many Majapahit tributaries, it continues to draw unnecessary power from the newly made city. The rising power of Ayuthayya in the north,as well as its diplomatic missions to china also didn't help their situation. Kusumawardhani decided that she need to make sure that the Middle kingdom wouldn't intervene with the rightly justified action of cutting one's vassal size, convincing the kingdom that only strong Majapahit is the natural ally of China against threat of Ayuthayya and the expanding naval powers of East Asia, not a mere trading kingdom post. She managed to do exactly that of course, and after the second attack of Malayan kingdom, Majapahit prevailed as the only strong power in the whole Nusantara, controlling not only the spices but the trade that came through it. She then died a natural death few decades later, titled with one that is uniquely hers, Maharani Jawa, Ratunusantara ,

The regent son didn't do as much as her mother, but he is proven to be better than his father at least. He expanded the Majapahit list of tributaries by subduing Borneo coastal petty kingdoms and tribes, thus claiming the whole island for his own empire expansion. The rest of Celebes fall to this list as well. The usual rebellion and growing vassal happens once or twice, but he can also quell it down before it gets any worse. Too bad however, he died in a horse accident before he can do anything more with his position and his brother get the crown. Rather than unnecessarily expanding like his nephew and sister, he sees the need of a strong core Majapahit to make sure its tributaries fall on line and stop the unnecessary spending power thwarting rebellion. He oversee the annexation of Lampung and Bali, developments of Majapahit ports that spread all over Nusantara, and the expansion of both the navy and the army. He also strengthen diplomatic ties with the petty kings and dukes, giving them a bit more lee-way to control their land and send tribute to him in return for more monopolistic trade, lesser personal levy, and more enforcement of border stability between realms.

Things didn't change much after that, and with the death of the Emperor, Majapahit was left stagnant by his predecessor, strong, but stagnant. This will have disastrous consequences, Europeans come and contested the dominant position of the empire in the archipelago, and several lands have been conceded to satisfy the thirst of these white barbarians. The empire standings however, is still unmatched in the eyes of her vassal, due to strong naval presence that can still threaten their coastline, and the newly Emperor swore to end this humiliation of going any further

Now, all eyes of the world watch carefully of the Nusantara Empire will do from this point onwards. Their King, Rajasanagara Tancawikramawar is a strong leader that posses the great blood and valour of those precede him. His, and his vassal core territory may be harmed by the comings of the Europeans, but his sphere of influence for the most part have fall in line with him. New Golden era for Majapahit will soon be started, and Tanca has murmured that he will bring the glory beyond the archipelago to the proper mainland of Asia.

History: Pretty much the same as IRL Byzantium until the 1400s, except without the West's collapse and interaction was thorough; onto the other information after the 1400s. The Byzantine Empire used to span until great lengths into Persia, until the Persian-Byzantine Wars during the 1500s. During these wars, the Byzantine Empire and the Persian Empire ended up fighting over territory between them, with the Byzantines sometimes coming close to conquering the Persian Empire, and the Persians nearly crossing into Mesopotamia. The last of the Persian-Byzantine Wars was in 1592, wherein the current borders were settled by the two massive empires.

The Byzantine Empire went through another conflict in the 1600s, this time nearly against Western Rome itself. It was primarily a dispute of the Church, and this led to the finalization and permanent separation of the Eastern and Western Churches, or as they are now called, the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches, respectively.
