Okay, I skimmed character apps and I'll read the IC before I make an app.

I hide in the "Create Your Own Country" subforum on a site called playdiplomacy. It's an RP that's been running for eight years or so, and I've been there four.

Mellow-Brook Academy
Student App

Name: Julia Staverinde
Age: 16
Appearance: Julia stands at a perfectly respectable five-two thankyouverymuch. She isn't after all, that short (only a couple inches shorter than the average, she'll often protest), although her two bigger older brothers (and a single bigger younger one) weren't hesitant about using what insecure five-year-old Julia termed the "s-word" growing up. She has straight, dark brown hair that hangs down to slightly past her shoulders, although it's usually held up in a ponytail. Despite her habit of dragging a book (or twelve) out to read in the sun, she's rather pale, and despite how rare and unsuccessful her attempts at exercise are, she maintains a healthy, even slim, figure.

Biography: (Atleast 2 paragraphs, or more. Exceptions amy be allowed, but taht will be determined by the Op and the Co-OP's. Please do not make your character all gritty and dark and hateful, exceptions may be allowed.)

Julia's a polite, if not especially outgoing, person. Always has been, her parents say, usually with a charming anecdote about little Julia calling the librarian "ma'am" before asking to check out a half-dozen Hardy Boys books or tried to convince the librarian that she was, in fact, able to read the Harry Potter novel that was approximately half her size (by weight, of course - Julia isn't that short. In school, she does perfectly fine, absolutely, perfectly, fine. She is doing excellently academically, and her social life is perfectly satisfactory. That's what she'll tell you, and that's what you'll believe, because trustworthiness practically drips off that voice, slides off the bill of the baseball hat worn grey by sun to the point where even Julia isn't quite sure what color it used to be. Perhaps green. She always liked green.

Julia, is, of course, not telling the truth, or at least all of it. She's noticed some things she wasn't supposed to, like the drugs her older brothers bought from an ex-babysitter, but she's doing alright, and is suspect to the usual high school pressures. But kid stuff, really. All of it. Well, most of it.

Her parents know that she was at the library fire that rocked the her mid-sized town of Jefferson Township, on her way to drop off a quite interesting book on the mutiny on the battleship Potemkin. Perhaps you've heard the story, about the revolutionaries who a decade too soon tried to start a revolt against the tsar among the greatest battleship in the Russian fleet, one of the most powerful pieces of military equipment in the world? Julia considers history as her likely college major, but thinks that the whole Russian place might have something interesting to offer, although she hears - What? I apologize for the tangent. Perhaps it will prove useful one day.

The book is never returned, and she walks back that night stunned and sooty, as her parents frantically call looking for their daughter and her brothers start a not-insignificant search party after a body isn't discovered in the remains of the library, her second home. She tells them that she was safely outside the library when the building collapsed, having swiftly dropped off a book and left, but why would they believe such a transparently false lie? Everyone who's ever met Julia knows that there's no way she dropped off a book without getting its replacement. Shitty detectives, her parents are, good thing for the town that they stick to selling computers and leave the police to catch the arsonist.

In reality, she was deep in the stacks combing for another book on Russian history (Alexander and Nicholas seemed okay, but Russia at War had a nice heft to it, although she'll never read either), when the fire started, and she was far too deep in a description of the Mud Offensive (you have to preview the books, and the beginning doesn't tell you shit, so Julia flips to a random page and ignores everyone who tells her she's doing it wrong) to realize the danger. She does that sometimes, but the consequences generally aren't so disastrous.

Before a further look at Julia's philosophy on reading and book-choosing (really, her strongest-held beliefs), I ought to finish the story. Else, you'll think I'm a poor narrator, and that'd just break my heart. I can feel your frustration, I can hurry, although it pains me.

After the fire, Julia finds herself outside the once-library, a hardly-singed copy Russia at War in her hands and an assortment of other books - conveniently, enough to fit in a backpack, her backpack, lying around her. Old books, new books, (but no red or blue ones, these are generally brown, and I'm not a doctor of any sort), but they feel different than normal books. She sticks them in her backpack anyway - I mean, they are books, after all - and heads home, depositing the books in a safe place before going in to see her family.

Since that day, Julia's been different - still polite, and no less happy than before. But off. And sometimes, you'll look in her room, and a book will be open, and she won't be there, or she'll have five open around her, and when you walk in on her, it's like walking in on a group quickly ending a conversation about you. The therapists say that she's well, mostly okay, although it really is best if she comes in more (Julia, and increasingly, her parents, think that this is just a bunch of greedy, money-grubbing crap). Really, her parents think, it's best if she is sent away, somewhere where there aren't burnt-out libraries on the way to school, where she can start over. Mellow-Brook, they say, seems like quite a wonderful place.

Abilities/Skills
 • Lost in a book: Julia, quite literally, can get lost in what she's reading, and will disappear into a book. She doesn't understand that this is happening at the moment, poor kid. It's unclear what advantage this might give, but I guess she can hide, or something of that nature. She often finds herself somewhere else without remembering how she got there, but assumes she's just imagining things, or wandered there in a book-embedded daze. She did that, even before the library fire.
 • Friend like me: Julia, in the privacy of her mind, knows that books have spirits, and foremost among them is one she calls the Narrator. They can offer advice and counsel, and perhaps might even give greater assistance. They're more present when she's reading a book or near an open one, but she's finding it easier and easier to hear them and talk to them.
 • Julia can read real fast: And she can remember it too. Right weapon of mass destruction she is, with all this readin' and remembrin'. Watch out superman.

Weaknesses
 • Knowledge is Power: And Julia doesn't have it. She isn't fully aware that she has powers and suspects she might be crazy. She doesn't know she'll sometimes disappear for hours at a time.
 • Eye of the Housecat: I don't know if I can say shit, but either way, Julia can't fight for it. Has no combat powers to speak of.
 • Crazy Little Thing Called Julia: Not super competent at hiding the whole "talks to inanimate objects thing", and likely will slip up quite frequently, and people might think she's a little, ah, off.

Optional (These are entirely optional and are for immersion and enjoyment and are not mandatory.)
Likes/Dislikes: Loves books, would probably marry one, only to divorce it in a couple hours to marry another. Less enthralled with human people, unless they're librarians or anyone else who might give her another book or twelve.
Fears: Most anything that can kill her. She's a lover, not a fighter. Well, not really a lover either, unless you count books, which wouldn't necessarily fit with the connotations of the expression. Still.
Theme:
Voice actor:
D&d Alignment: Thinking lawful good, but I'm toying with the idea of her stealing books obsessively and she might be influenced by the Books and Narrator, who might have different alignments.

Not really sure where you get the whole young-looking thing from, Free. Still, curious as to how you reached that conclusion. (It's possible that she is young-looking and I'm just not seeing it. I'm terrible at calculating ages from pictures, so maybe I'm missing something.)

No, it's just as simple as interacting with who you want to room with and asking, "Hey, you wanna room together" when everyone gets to the dorms. Since it's preplanned in the OOC most people will just have their character find each other "by chance" in the IC when it's time.

Actually. I believe the roommates are assigned without interaction between characters.

Roomate assignments are preplanned, icly, to a point. There will be temp plaques/notes in the dorms, though the floor the student will be on is preassigned, the roomnates are more fluid, if you get my meaning. Will try to explain better later.

I will make a list for roommate assignments later.

EDIT: basically room assignments for students from years past are pre assigned, mostly, but nwer students can choose their own, for the most part. Does that make sense?
