It's not just that. Tom's sig reads way differently from what I remember of him just two months ago. I mean, supporting Corbyn? It is...odd. To say the least.

Christine Pellegrino, a Berniecrat, was elected to a state assembly seat in New York in a special election last month. What did she do? She defeated her Republican opponent in a district Trump won by 23 percentage points and the seat's former occupant, Joseph Saladino, won by 37 percentage points last year. Pellegrino beat her opponent, Thomas Gargiulo, 58% to 42%.

Yeah, I saw that one. Pretty neat.Thermodolia wrote:The 6th district isn't even that pro Trump.
Previous Republican still won by, what, 20%? So it is still a rather large shift of Ossoff wins.

30% but incumbency has its benefits. The thing is that campaign with Trump in this district may be, and it's looking like it will be, political suicide

I think of all the special elections, Georgia has always been the best chance. Ossoff has consistently been leading throughout the whole thing, and nearly won it outright. And Republicans decided to pick the least liked Republican on a District wide level (but apparently the most popular among Republicans on a level to get the nomination...if that makes sense)
Kansas and Montana were always a long shot. But still lowered to single digit wins.

That healthcare stuff is one of the things the US really gets wrong and needs to fix. We need to get healthcare separated from employer-sponsored insurance plans because the current system enables doctors, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device manufacturers to price-gouge, it doesn't provide universal access, and it doesn't create meaningful consumer choice because most people just get shunted into whatever health plan their employer chooses.
I entirely agree. And yet, the Republican Party (and quite a few Democrats) are still a thing. Clearly, that is representative of something (wrong) going on in America.

That something is campaign finance, which in our country is effectively unlimited legalized bribery. The Republican Party and quite a few Democrats are shills for the health insurance industry thanks to that.

Well, they're Californians so they're probably insane on a fair number of issues.

Remember when Democrats were against Citizens United?
Now they've just embraced it.

Not if you understand just how much money goes into our elections and how it is raised, then compare it to other countries. It didn't start with Citizens United, but with the onset of paid political television advertising. It is structural, not cultural.
