I'm sure they can, but the Falklands don't have a Ministry of Foreign Affairs or diplomats. You're meant to handle that for them.

Again we don't need to settle the issue. The Argentines can come and have a go if they think they're hard enough.

Their armed forces have basically ceased to exist. They're a parody of their former power. Despite how weak they are, they'd lose horribly.

The problem is that Argentina wants to paint this as a 'poor latin-American country vs ebil imperialist London' issue. If we talk directly to them then we're only helping that propaganda.

She just seems to be spouting the same thing over and over. At first it was Strong and Stable, now it's "no deal over a bad deal, can't trust that Jeremy Corbyn...."

Last note, a bit unrelated here, we all know Abbott is a piece of garbage, but the campaign isn't really about her at this point. It was bad judgment to appoint her Shadow Home Secretary, that I will acknowledge wholeheartedly.

I've got to say Abbott is as much the PLP's fault as Corbyns. She's only where she is because the other MP's kept resigning in the hope of proving Corbyn unelectable.

It's the symbolism which counts. Not only why Corbyn is more sympathetic to the idea, but also the fact that any negotiation from London will give the Argentine position an air of legitimacy.

You're all probably expecting me to slam down hard on Corbyn... but no, I genuinely think he won out tonight. He won the audience, he won Paxman. May lost against both. He has energised our core voters, attacked criticisms head on to win floating voters and I can safely say the mood among activists right now is that no matter our past politics (whether we supported Liz Kendall or Corbyn both times), we are all Corbynists.

I agree it's not a giant threat or anything. It's just needless. Why does he need to take an alternative position on it? We were right about the Falklands and that was that. Even if we didn't have a massive moral high ground and the support of international law, we had the Law of Torpex on our side. And we still do. It's a dead issue - why bring it up?

On the list of issues that rate highly for this election, how we made peace with the IRA and achieved detente in Northern Ireland, and the future of The Falklands don't even make the top 50 of "issues I give a shit about".

The NHS. The welfare state. Immigration. Rights of EU citizens living here. The future of Scotland. The future of the web (censorship etc). The future of The ECHR. The Human Rights Act. The independence of the courts. The numbers of police. The idea of detention without trial. And so on and so forth. Things that actually affect people right here, right now, and not people 200 million miles away who are out numbered by fucking sheep.

So the fact Corbyn might want to actually talk about The Falklands, instead of just sending more men and women to die a billion miles from home really doesn't bother me or worry me all that much. And the fact he might have helped stopped the killing in Northern Ireland makes him worthy of respect, not hatred.

ah, so you've finally been jampilled. i'm still annoyed at the whole "years trying to undermine him at every turn" thing, but it's better late than never.

Being in the United Kingdom has made me feel more interested in who the hell is going to run the country I live in.
I actually saw this coming because she keeps talking about needed and strong leadership for "Brexit and beyond."

It looked like the Tories would win by a landslide but it's now 10 days until the election...

The Labour Party cut Tori lead to 5 points...

You do not know geography do you? It's 9000 miles from the United Kingdom to Australia. And the world's diameter is 24,000. So not even near the tens of millions, let alone billions and hundreds of millions.
