League I

The unbearable tension that surrounded the final week was broken and Salaga F.C will be promoted to the Una Serie. The nail biting conclusion to the season may hopefully start a precedent and next year the promotion chase may be even more exciting.

Last night Taeshan Soccer Federation President/ Taeshan Soccer League Comissioner Mike Graves announced the Expansion of the Taeshan Soccer League to a three tiered system. Formerly their was a Taeshan Third division, but many of those teams have moved up to the official third tier league, The Taeshan Zweite Teilung. (yes that means second division) With this move the 2nd division has been rechristened Taeshan Zuerst Teilung, and the Taeshan Premiership/Uber League will now be known as Taeshan Premier League. This announcement also comes out with the fact that the league will also be replacing Fadron Pizza as its main sponsor. It is now open to World Sponsors, and if any of you want to sponsor it Send a bid to the TSF. (TG Me)

Eastern Volleyball Football 2009

The Draft
Torhampton Gulls showed their determination with signing most of the top players - centre back Lyndon Pace (35), striker Donny Philander (34) and winger Lonny Carl (35). But with an average age of 30, Torhampton haven't been short of receiving criticism.

In Division Two, it was Ameshurst U23s who won the first pick of the draft, but Anbridge Town and Newmouth Rovers who took advantage of the other teams player restrictions and picked out stronger teams. Of course, both Ameshurst U23s and Highbury U23s both only allowed to choose players 22 and younger, and Keflavík only allowed to buy players born in Keflavík Island. But it was Ameshurst U23s who were able to snap up promising prospect Merrill Jae who plays on the right wing.

Highbury AFC fans blasted their managers decision to pick 24-year old midfielder Madison Jesse, claiming his ability would not even be of Division Two standard.

Surprisingly, Donny Philander's little brother Lorrin Philander was not picked. The 23-year old right winger was touted to be drafted by Ameshurst Marine, but not even a Division Two side wanted him. Lorrin later expressed his desire to play abroad, but said his chances were very slim.

The Collegiate Sporting Alliance has announced that four institutions have applied to join their ranks beginning with the 1775 season. These schools are Central Sumbobor University, based in Firnas; Mersira University; Till State University, based in Steth; and the University of Northwestern Salle, based in Rintus.

While these applications have not yet been approved by the CSA, they have indicated that if they are, Central Sumbobor and Mersira would most likely join the Lowland Conference while Till State and Northwestern Salle would become members of the Midland Conference. This would then result in all six CSA conferences having twelve members each.

There have also been proposals to adjust the football season format should these new members be approved. Each conference would be subdivided into two six-team divisions. The proposal would call for each team to play every team in its division twice yearly and each team from its conference's other division once yearly. One proposal would also allow each team to schedule four out-of-conference games, producing a 20-game season; another proposal calls for the elimination of regular-season out-of-conference games, which would produce a 16-game season. The current CSA football season consists of 15 games, nine to eleven against conference opponents and four to six against opponents from other conferences.

The CSA has stated that a decision on this matter will not be made until after the conclusion of the 1774 football playoffs and the 1774 baseball season.

PART ONE

Matchday 1

Right out of the gate, two of last year's top three finishers faced off as league champions Poiki made the trip to Flaarickug to face Merpisms, who finished third despite winning more games than anybody else. Of course, they only drew twice, which didn't help. Merpisms defended their home ground well with a convincing two-nil victory. However, it was a disastrous start for last year's runner-up. Mylfe started out at home against Pondrit, coming off a 16th-place finish. Somebody forgot to tell Pondrit they were the underdogs as they took a quick two-goal lead and eventually went on to win three-nil in front of a silent crowd at Ellime Anaved.

Matchday 2

Mylfe was able to right the ship at Anhenir, though they still could only pull off a narrow one-nil over the newly-promoted side. Meanwhile, alarm bells began to sound for Poiki as they lost again, this time at home against perennial juuuuuust-short-of-the-Globe-Cuppers Stithis.

Matchday 3

And Merpisms claim the title of last perfect team with a win against in-over-their-heads Trillet. Trillet had been promoted following the 1772 season and only managed to stay up by a single point over Dranacess - in contrast, they finished a full twenty-three points behind the team directly in front of them, Pondrit. Boalluns couldn't get anything going against Ammites, settling for a goalless draw, while Sichisers lost on the road at Terabits. Poiki, meanwhile, picked up their first points of the campaign with a win over Daazyiles.

Matchday 4

Merpisms didn't hold on to perfection for long, suffering their first dropped points and their first goal conceded against Ammites, sending Merpisms down to third on goals scored. Perhaps the success story of the first four weeks is POC, sitting in sixth at 2-2-0 after finishing 15th last season - then again, it is still very, very early. Poiki trounces Fekler away four-nil and all is mostly right with the world again. Mylfe's loss to Oillid sending them down to 15th is a bit worrying, though.

Boalluns FE 2-2 Terabits CE
Oillid CE 2-1 Mylfe CE

Matchday 5

Bumpoogra, Oillid, and Huellim are certainly unlikely leaders, considering none of them ended up in the top five last time around. Yet here they are at the top following Merpisms' one-nil loss to Terabits. And POC in fourth? After a three-one win at Mylfe? The relegation zone is a very unfamiliar place for most Mylfe supporters, yet there they are in 18th place after five. But at least they have put points on the board, unlike Fekler and Trillet, two-nil losers to Daazyiles and Stestrenas respectively.

Terabits CE 1-0 Merpisms CE
Mylfe CE 1-3 Penuler OC
Bumpoogra FE 4-0 Boalluns FE

Matchday 6

It should perhaps be noted that POC's 15th-place finish last year was a bit of an anomaly, as the club usually sits comfortably in the top half. That at least makes this odd-looking early surge look a little less...well, odd. POC takes advantage of a Bumpoogra loss to move into that three-way tie at the top. And so far still no sign of either Poiki or Mylfe in the title race - Poiki sits a lackluster tenth after getting a win over Pondrit, who are in the drop zone, while Mylfe still have just one win from their first six and sit only a point out of the drop zone themselves.

Stithis FE 4-1 Terabits CE
Huellim FE 1-1 Mylfe CE
Merpisms CE 3-2 Bumpoogra FE
Penuler OC 2-0 Knoleier FE
Boalluns FE 3-1 Sichisers OB
DFE Anhenir 0-0 Oillid CE
Pondrit FE 1-2 Poikimitagiin FE
Ammites FE 1-2 Daazyiles OC
Spoantects CE 1-1 Stestrenas OC
Trillet FE 1-1 Fekler FE

5 Merpisms CE 6 4 1 1 9 4 5 13
6 Boalluns FE 6 3 2 1 9 7 2 11

Matchday 7

Mylfe v Poiki is usually one of the most anticipated matchups of the year, but this time it was just plain weird with neither side anywhere near the ICC slots at the moment. Mylfe was able to pull off the win, but both clubs remain in the lower half of the table. Still, though, there are thirty-one matches to go. Surprisingly only one of the newly-promoted teams (Fekler) is in a position to go straight back down. Granted, Anhenir is only safe by one point, but Sichisers looks somewhat comfortable in 13th with eight points from their first seven. And Oillid is the unlikely last unbeaten after taking care of POC while Huellim stumbled against struggling Knoleier.

Terabits CE 2-3 Daazyiles OC
Mylfe CE 2-0 Poikimitagiin FE
Bumpoogra FE 2-1 Stithis FE
Knoleier FE 3-2 Huellim FE
Sichisers OB 2-2 Merpisms CE
Oillid CE 2-1 Penuler OC
Boalluns FE 3-1 DFE Anhenir
Stestrenas OC 2-0 Pondrit FE
Fekler FE 0-4 Ammites FE
Trillet FE 2-2 Spoantects CE

Pos Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Oillid CE 7 5 2 0 13 5 8 17
2 Bumpoogra FE 7 5 1 1 15 6 9 16
3 Penuler OC 7 4 2 1 14 9 5 14

5 Boalluns FE 7 4 2 1 12 8 4 14
6 Huellim FE 7 4 2 1 11 7 4 14

Matchday 8

And then Oillid take care of Huellim themselves to open up the first three-point lead of the season. Mylfe moves ahead of Poiki as the latter fall at home to Knoleier (okay, maybe they aren't so bad after all), but they're still in 11th, nine points off the pace. Stithis becomes the first side to score five in a match this season against newly-promoted Sichisers.

Fekler FE 1-1 Terabits CE
Stestrenas OC 1-3 Mylfe CE
Daazyiles OC 2-0 Bumpoogra FE
Poikimitagiin FE 1-2 Knoleier FE
Stithis FE 5-1 Sichisers OB
Huellim FE 1-2 Oillid CE
Merpisms CE 1-1 Boalluns FE
DFE Anhenir 1-2 Penuler OC
Pondrit FE 0-0 Trillet FE
Ammites FE 2-1 Spoantects CE

Pos Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Oillid CE 8 6 2 0 15 6 9 20
2 Penuler OC 8 5 2 1 16 10 6 17
3 Bumpoogra FE 8 5 1 2 15 8 7 16
4 Merpisms CE 8 4 3 1 12 7 5 15
5 Boalluns FE 8 4 3 1 13 9 4 15
6 Huellim FE 8 4 2 2 12 9 3 14

Matchday 9

This clearly is not the year for the established powers. Poiki are held to a draw by Oillid (who are, admittedly, the league leaders and the only remaining unbeaten team) while Mylfe somehow find a way to lose to Trillet at home. Oh well, perhaps a changing of the guard every now and then is a good thing. Of course, there are still just three points separating second from ninth, so maybe it's a bit premature to declare their title hopes dead. Meanwhile, Merpisms, not to be outdone by Stithis, pick up a five-one win of their own over Anhenir to vault back into second.

Terabits CE 1-2 Spoantects CE
Mylfe CE 1-2 Trillet FE
Bumpoogra FE 0-0 Fekler FE
Knoleier FE 0-1 Stestrenas OC
Sichisers OB 0-2 Daazyiles OC
Oillid CE 2-2 Poikimitagiin FE
Boalluns FE 1-2 Stithis FE
Penuler OC 0-3 Huellim FE
Merpisms CE 5-1 DFE Anhenir
Ammites FE 0-1 Pondrit FE

Pos Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Oillid CE 9 6 3 0 17 8 9 21
2 Merpisms CE 9 5 3 1 17 8 9 18
3 Bumpoogra FE 9 5 2 2 15 8 7 17

5 Penuler OC 9 5 2 2 16 13 3 17
6 Stithis FE 9 5 1 3 22 15 7 16

Matchday 10

And a relatively uneventful week ten brings us to the one-quarter mark of the season. Raise your hand if you expected to see Oillid as the lone remaining unbeaten and neither Poiki nor Mylfe in the top twelve. Yeah, nobody else did either.

Pondrit FE 2-0 Terabits CE

Over in the North East corner of Rushmore the Superliga has reached its half way stage. So let’s take a quick peek back at past few months shall we? What do you mean no? Well, tough . . .

It’s been a season of new faces in the dugout, or new dugouts entirely, as the big two appointed new foreign coaches. And it was new El Nacional boss Otto van Belhamel, fresh from winning the league with SVV Stoedt in his native Nethertopia, who really hit the ground running with a 5 – 1 hammering of champions Sporting San Marquez in the SargoSport Shield, formally the Super Cup, followed by a run in the league that took the Gozan giants up to their traditional second place. Sporting recovered from that opening humiliation, and a 2 – 0 league defeat to the Gozans at the Estadio Silva to go on a two month unbeaten streak to sit at the top of the table.

This was going to be such a massive season for former champions Ciudad Soluca. Their first in the gorgeous new ediraf Arena and with big name Canderlariasian (There, are you happy? Call off your grammar police!) Hane Davies at the helm. Despite an excellent start, including a draw with Sporting and wins over El Nacional and Dínamo Maturín, the wheels seemed to come off just a little. But the big name signing of Taeshani international José Hüron has halted the slide, for the moment anyway. And the even bigger name signing of world cup winning striker Zachary Adekunde can’t hurt.

Also enjoying the surroundings of the ediraf, and also under new management, are Ciudad’s city rivals Deportivo. Former Petro Mercada boss Gabriel Vizcarra is now calling the shots and his canny management has taken the perennial underachievers up to third place, two points higher than their mighty city neighbours. They’re level on points with El Nacional and Deportivo Cordova, who look set to be Globe Cup challengers yet again.

Hot on the heels of the top group are Dínamo Maturín whose gung-ho style of play, under the ever-attacking José Marín, has made the Quellan club the public’s second favourite side. Although some defensive reinforcements are required to try and stop the goals going in at the other end. It must be a family trait as also capturing the imagination have been little Santos, coached by José’s big brother Albert. The newly promoted side from San Adriano have thrilled audiences this season and in one memorable two week spell beat Ciudad at home before taking El Nacional apart at the Independiente. Striker Licínio Viveiros and flying winger Juan de Dios Cruz have been the standouts.

At the wrong end of the table both Petro and Alianza Jucaro are in serious trouble. Alianza, with former Ciudad assistant coach Alejandro Ruiz in charge and talented Poconese playmaker Gandolfo pulling the strings have shown some signs of life in recent weeks. Petro, with just one win to their name all season, have looked awful and Roberto Estrada was shown the door after a home defeat to Dunas Del Sol.

The Global Cups

Guess what? Another season of abject failure in the TakilQuip champions Cup. Well at least El Nacional put up a little bit of a fight, knocking over St Nash University of Qazox and Lockstow United, from the Islands of Qutar, in the first two preliminary rounds before being dumped out by serial dumper outer of SuperLiga sides, Aguazul’s Arcrés Millos. Sporting, well they departed after just one round, beaten into submission, and on penalties, by Hanseong Gukjei from the Han Empire.

The Globe Cup started in worringly familiar form with Dínamo falling over the very first hurdle and Copa winners Porto Alegro Azul scraping through by the skin of their teeth against Qasarian City. Although they’d get no further than an away goal defeat in the very next round. Which left the big three to do the business. Sporting knocked over some team from Panuul, which was more than the national side could manage, before falling to D-League representatives Sporting Kildare. But ever reliable El Nacional advanced to the group stages for the third time running. scoring a very popular win over fellow Rushmoris Galactica in the process. While Ciudad, with global cup specialist Davies in charge, edged past the Orthopedists to join their great rivals in the group draw for the very first time. It was also the first time two Sargossan clubs have negiotated the maze of Preliminary/Eliminatory/Qualifying rounds in either of the competitions.

Élite League One
For the first time in twenty-one years, the Élite League trophy resides in northern Bedistan, as Yuba United’s success quota was finally used to achieve another domestic treble (including the club’s twentieth first division title) rather than Champions’ Cup glory. Surprises on the international front included Dûsanto’s failure to qualify for the Champions’ Cup for the second straight season, and Noka Mariners’ clinching of a Globe Cup slot on the basis of association quotas (no association is allowed more than four of the six places). The Sokojito Dosi clubs yet again failed to simultaneously qualify for international competition, while Sokojiwa Dosi was also surprisingly left out. Perhaps less suprisingly, the once-strong Syoko Poggyuggijĭ was relegated from the top division.

PART TWO

Matchday 11

Oillid couldn't have wished for a better time for Poiki to seemingly return to form. A 3–1 win over Huellim sent the latter down to fourth place, and combined with Merpisms' home loss, it enabled Oillid to double their lead with a win over cellar-dwellers Trillet.

Matchday 12

Two big pieces of news this week. First, Oillid's six-point cushion doesn't last long as Ammites becomes the first team to take three points from them this season. Second, maybe Poiki's resurgence last week wasn't a fluke. Okay, yes, they were playing relegation-threatened Anhenir, but even so you can't ignore a six-nil win on the road. The Penuls club still has a long way to go, though, sitting twelfth ten points off the pace.

Matchday 13

Don't look now, but the big two are making a comeback, and in a big way. Poiki extend their winning streak to three, and Mylfe make a statement with a five-nil over Sichisers to put themselves within one point of the less-important-than-usual top six (owing to the fact that international competition this time around will be determined by aggregate results over two seasons). Oh, and Huellim are fortunate enough to face Trillet, enabling a five-nil win of their own to keep Oillid's lead down to four points.

Matchday 14

Okay, maybe the cries of "comeback" were a little premature. Poiki can't even find the net against Trillet, for slani's sake. Huellim fail to do themselves any favors by crashing three-nil against Ammites, Merpisms can't beat Pondrit, Boalluns fall to Mylfe, Daazyiles can only draw against relegation-threatened Fekler, and Oillid laugh all the way to the bank as they take a season-high seven-point lead.

Matchday 15

Boalluns drop another one to fall from second to sixth in two weeks, but at least Merpisms don't repeat Boalluns' mistake from last week as they take care of Mylfe. However, it's pretty clear that Oillid is the team to beat as they rack up their eleventh win of the first fifteen games. After them, though, it's anybody's game, with just five points separating 4th from 13th.

Matchday 16

Then again, there's no better way to get back into contention than with a convincing win over the league leaders. Boalluns three, Oillid nil, and Merpisms take care of business to cut the lead to four. Meanwhile, for the first time this season, the big two make appearances in the top six, as Poiki have little trouble with Terabits and Mylfe get a slightly shocking three-nil victory at a Stithis side that is admittedly not of its usual caliber. In the meantime, the relegation struggle is beginning to take shape, as a nine-point gap has opened up between 15th and 16th place to make it clearly a five-team race for two safe spots. Terabits are on top with eleven points, one point ahead of a tie among Fekler, Sichisers, and Trillet, while Anhenir remain the only team with just one win to their credit so far.

Matchday 17

Mylfe open up a three-game winning streak with an emphatic win over Daazyiles. Daazyiles had been in the top three; now Mylfe are instead as Daazyiles fall all the way to eighth (hey, I said it was close, didn't I?). Poiki are again held goalless, but it's not so bad as they do the same to opponents Bumpoogra. Oh yeah, and there was a huge six-pointer at the top between Oillid and Merpisms. A predictably close match, but Oillid come out on top to again stretch their lead to seven points.

Matchday 18

Merpisms drop a couple points against the formerly-hot POC, now sitting in their usual mid-table spot. Both of the big two get big wins (5–2 and 6–0) against teams in the drop zone, and Oillid is again able to take care of business as their lead gets bigger. Can anybody catch these guys?

Matchday 19

Well, it all looked very strange after the first quarter, but here at the halfway point, the top of the table looks somewhat sane. Okay, I doubt anybody expected Oillid to have a nine-point lead here, but at least Mylfe and Poiki are back in their usual places in the top three, the latter getting there after a win over a suddenly slumping Boalluns, who have just one point from their last three matches and now find themselves in tenth place. Meanwhile, in the relegation battle, Terabits and Trillet have separated themselves a little bit from the rest, with a four-point gap between Trillet and Fekler at the cutoff point. Anhenir finish the first half with just seven points – on pace for a record low? We'll have to check our records on that, but fourteen points for the season certainly does sound absurdly low.

Um.

Nethers reporting from Spain. It´s hot here. And the computers have no NSFS. And I don´t have my files here. Nor any energy to actually go and find teams´ rankings. So from the top of my head:

TQCC qualifiers:
Tenderville United
Ratos Island Seaside

GC qualifiers:
NAPPC
FC DePardenti
SVV Stoedt

That´s all, folks. Back to the warmth of the Spanish sun (which is actually the world´s sun, so that name is riduculous. Stupid sayings an´ such...).
Sporting achievements:
Third in WC51. That's about it. I think we once won the inaugural Table Tennis World Cup as well?

Let's do the West Zirconian Cup first - I've never done the Cup first...

Code: Select all
Season  Champions             Runners-up           Final Score

 1       Markham             Houghton Kestrels       3-1
 2       Stanley United      Banks                   4-1
 3       Banks               Stanley United          3-0
 4       Banks               Taylor's Cross          6-0
 5       Markham             Stanley United          3-0
6       Banks               St. Martin University   5-1
 7       Wacker Neustadt     Taylor's Cross          4-2
8       Bradley Hornets     Bradley Swifts          3-2
 9       St. Andrew's        Currie                  5-0
 10      Banks               Stanley United          4-3aet
 11      Bradley Hornets     Taylor's Cross          2-0
 12      Etruria             Banks                   1-1aet (3-0pen)
 13      Redwood Forest      Banks                   4-3

It's also a bit more interesting than the league, in that Banks doesn't win it all the time, though the Riversiders' habit of at least reaching the final is becoming a matter for concern.

Still, let the fun begin. At least, let us begin it in the First Round. Only two clubs fell to lower opposition - Wolverton Town lost 4-2 at home to Snaith Maritime College, and the increasingly hopeless Mount Vernon lost 3-1 at home to Eastham Panthers.

First Round
Ashton Rovers 3-1 Kirkham Town
Stanley University 0-2 Tîm Cymru
Currie 2-2 Anderton Town
Replay: Anderton Town 1-2 Currie
Stanley Athletic 3-1 Anderton United
Felton Athletic 1-2 West Coast Angels
Elwell Harriers 1-2 Oakley
Markham University 0-2 FC Boston
Bradley University 0-1 St. Martin Athletic
Moorcroft City 2-1 St. Mark's College, Mort Park
Sephton County 1-1 McLaughlin Islands
Replay: McLaughlin Islands 0-2 Sephton County
Walton 4-1 Underwood Town
Mount Vernon 1-3 Eastham Panthers
Wolverton Town 2-4 Snaith Maritime College
East Snaith 4-3 Etruria

Of course, it was all going to happen in the Second Round, wasn't it? Well...
It did for West Coast Angels, 3-0 winners at Civil Service. Ashton Rovers put the disappointment of last season's relegation behind them with a 2-1 win over Houghton Hawks, and Tîm Cymru won 3-2 at St. Andrew's. East Snaith's 2-1 win at Combined Armed Forces completed the litany of shocks.

Second Round
Markham 1-2 Bradley Swifts
West Coast Angels 1-1 Civil Service
Replay: Civil Service 3-0 West Coast Angels
Bradley Hornets 2-0 Redwood Forest
Ashton Rovers 2-1 Houghton Hawks
FC Boston 1-3 Stanley United
St. Andrew's 2-3 Tîm Cymru
Mort Park 3-1 New Toronto
Eastham Panthers 2-2 Oakley
Replay: Oakley 0-1 Eastham Panthers
Crompton Town 3-0 Walton
Stanley Athletic 3-1 Currie
Sephton County 1-1 Moorcroft City
Replay: Moorcroft City 2-2 Sephton County (2-3 AET)
St. Martin Athletic 5-1 Snaith Maritime College
Combined Armed Forces 1-2 East Snaith
Houghton Kestrels 3-2 AFC Stanton
Hyland Town 1-4 Banks
Moorcroft Wanderers 3-0 Taylor's Cross

Last season's top two were sensationally knocked out in the Third Round - Tîm Cymru won 3-4 at Banks, while Non-League Eastham Panthers defeated Mort Park 2-1. Sephton County's 2-0 defeat of Bradley Swifts and St. Martin Athletic's 5-3 win over Crompton Town were insignificant in comparison.

Third Round
Stanley United 4-1 Ashton Rovers
Houghton Kestrels 2-1 East Snaith
Sephton County 2-0 Bradley Swifts
Moorcroft Wanderers 1-2 Civil Service
Eastham Panthers 2-1 Mort Park
St. Martin Athletic 5-3 Crompton Town
Banks 3-4 Tîm Cymru
Stanley Athletic 1-6 Bradley Hornets

There's always one Non-League team that gets too far for its own good. Step forward, Eastham Panthers. Their 4-1 victory over Tîm Cymru saw them reach the Semi-Final. Mind you, St. Martin Athletic did well to beat Bradley Hornets 3-1.

Quarter-Final
St. Martin Athletic 3-1 Bradley Hornets
Sephton County 2-5 Stanley United
Civil Service 1-2 Houghton Kestrels
Tîm Cymru 1-4 Eastham Panthers

In the Semi-Final, the Eastham dream ended, while the St. Martin one was very much alive.

Semi-Final
Eastham Panthers 3-4 Stanley United
Stanley United 4-1 Eastham Panthers
Aggregate: Eastham Panthers 4-8 Stanley United

St. Martin Athletic 4-2 Houghton Kestrels
Houghton Kestrels 2-2 St. Martin Athletic
Aggregate: St. Martin Athletic 6-4 Houghton Kestrels

Another mismatched final. Another upset? Nearly - so nearly.

Final
Stanley United 1-1 St. Martin Athletic (1-1 AET) (at City of Houghton Stadium)
(Stanley United wins 3-0 on penalty kicks)

So on to the one-horse race that is the West Zirconian National League. Can the ever-present champions be toppled? Let us see.

Unusually, the longest unbeaten run was not Banks', but that of their rivals Markham - eleven matches before Crompton Town beat them 2-0. Banks were by this stage marginally in front, while at the other end Combined Armed Forces and Hyland Town looked like being cut adrift, before recovering enough to be within reach of safety by mid-way.

I don't need to tell you what happened next.

Yes, that Second Division. St. Martin Athletic made the first push for a return to the top flight, with several others - Tîm Cymru, Sephton County, Etruria and East Snaith among them - breathing down their necks.

However, despite the challenge, they held on to become the capital's first team in the top division since the University side merged with Etruria.

Speaking of Etruria, there was still the small matter of the playoff.

Semi-Final
Tîm Cymru 1-2 Etruria
Etruria 3-2 Tîm Cymru
Aggregate: Tîm Cymru 3-5 Etruria

Currie 0-3 Hyland Town
Hyland Town 3-2 Currie
Aggregate: Currie 2-6 Hyland Town

Final
Etruria 2-2 Hyland Town (at Marc Edwards Memorial Stadium, Redwood)
(3-2 AET)

So there'll be two St. Martin teams in the top flight next season. They won't be pleased about that in Moorcroft, you know...

So finally, the global qualifications:

TQCC: Banks, Bradley Hornets, Stanley United.
Globe Cup: Houghton Kestrels, Markham, Taylor's Cross.
SBCC: St. Martin Athletic, East Snaith, Tîm Cymru, Currie.

In another attempt to complete the hosting treble, the WZFA submit the following entry:

Globe Cup: City of Houghton Stadium, in...erm...Houghton. (capacity 45,000)

CAFUNDELENSE LEAGUE RESULTS (Before WC47)
Season 15

THE SAME OF EVER REVIEW OF CAFUNDÉU’S LEAGUE SYSTEM – Cafundéu’s league is composed of 5 divisions of 20 teams. All the divisions have the same style:

-1st phase: All the clubs play each other 2 times(home and away). It’s called “primeiro turno”. The winner of this phase it’s the first placed at the end of the league.

Tiebreakers: points, number of wins, goal difference, goals scored, yellow cards.

-2nd phase: The 8 best placed teams in the 1st phase play in a knockout stage. The 1st plays the 8th (Game A), the 2nd plays the 7th(Game B), the 3rd plays the 6th(Game C) and the 4th plays the 5th (Game D). They play two games(home and away). The winner continues. In case of draw, the team with better performance in the 1st phase wins. Then, the winner of the game A plays against the winner of game D, and the winner of game B plays the winner of game C(semifinals) with the same rules. Then, the winners play the final using the same rules.

-3rd phase: The winners of the 1st and 2nd phase play each other in one game in neutral ground. In case of draw, there’s extra time and penalties. The winner is the Cafundéu champion.

Promotion and Relegation: In all the leagues 4 teams get relegated. They are the 4 worst teams of the 1st phase. The promoted teams are the 3 best teams of the 1st phase and the best team of the 2nd phase(note that the champion of the 2nd phase can be already promoted in the 1st phase, so the best placed team that still wasn’t promoted will be promoted (the one which reached the final or the semifinal of the 2nd phase).

Orange: Division champions
Blue: promoted
Red: relegated
Purple: winner of 1st phase (if lost the grand final)
Green: winner of 2nd phase (if lost the grand final)

First, the Landau Institute league, called Láifódi. The Laifódi (Landau Institute Football Dispute) involves all the teams from inside the place, including teams composed by doctors, patients or simple workers of the Institute. All the teams play each other twice and, in the end, the team with more points win the league. Simple. There is no relegation, as there isn't a second division.

The final positions were the following (top 3 to TQCC, 4th, 5th and 6th to Globe Cup):

ESTRESSE INTENSO'S COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

Previous champions:
Season 1 - Academia Acropolis
Season 2 - Escritórios Macedo
Season 3 - Academia Acropolis
Season 4 - Academia Acropolis
Season 5 - Camisa Dez
Season 6 - Academia Acropolis

The country championship involves the 10 best teams of the country of Estresse Intenso (this means the teams from outside the Landau Institute). There are many teams in Estresse Intenso, but most don't have organization, so the league is composed only by the top 10. Teams play each other six times, and the best after these 54 rounds is the champion. Bottom two are relegated.

Promoted teams come from a cup involving all the other teams that aren't on the league. Top 4 win a chance to dispute the SBCC, the only international competition available for them (as the TQCC and GC are reserved for Láifódi teams). See the final standings of the league:

International University Challenge Championship 17 presented by Radio Ad’ihan International

The IUCC Executive Committee confirmed following the IUCC 17 final that the board's headquarters will be moving to Vephrall. The AFF, which controls 60% of the IUCC Executive Committee, has approved the move after consulting with the Vephrese association as well as the Vephrese CSA, the college alliance. The AFF will no longer be in charge beginning from IUCC 18.

Host bids for the group stage and finals of IUCC 18 are now open. Furthermore, companies interested in sponsoring the IUCC from IUCC 19 through IUCC 21 should come forward, with a decision to be made by the relevant Vephrese officials following the next tournament.

Congratulations to the Paruvia Institute of Technology of Paripana's ASA association on winning IUCC17 and becoming the first school outside the 'big four' countries to win the tournament.

(Important OOC: Please note that due to certain issues, I am handing over control and scorination of the IUCC tournament to Vephrall with effect from IUCC18. Any further questions regarding the next tournament, including format, should be directed to him.)

PART THREE

Matchday 20

Mylfe stumbles against Pondrit and the six-pointer between Merpisms and Poiki turns out to be not much of a contest as Merpisms walk out of Uddaphyphose with three points. Meanwhile Oillid pick up an expected win over relegation fodder to extend their lead to eleven points over the field. Boy, it's really not looking like much of a title race right now, is it?

Poiki heading into another tailspin? With a loss to Stithis, they fall back to fifth, fifteen points adrift. Spoantects gets a surprising draw with Oillid, so the lead narrows back to nine points. Yeah. Um, Ammites scored five goals in a match. Hey, can you wake me up in October?

Matchday 22

Oillid win, Mylfe draw, Merpisms lose. Eleven points again. As tempted as I am to go ahead and break out the combined points table so we can look at the marginally more exciting ICC situation, I promised myself we weren't going to do that until the three-quarters mark – the end of this section. So nyah. Spoantects are the first to ten draws this season, and did you know Sichisers are giving up more than two and a half goals per game?

Oillid with a chance to really put the final nail in the coffin as they visit Mylfe; alas, neither team is able to find the net, so it's still an eleven-point lead at the top. Sorry, folks, even the relegation battle doesn't look very exciting, there's a good eight-point gap between Terabits in 17th and Anhenir in 18th. Oh, Poiki score five against a team that's going down. Yay them.

Matchday 24

Oh what the hell, let's just talk about Spoantects for a bit. Yet another draw puts them at 6–12–6 on the season. Only Oillid, Mylfe, and Merpisms have lost fewer games, but because Spoantects can't win any either, they're stuck in 15th place. Oh, and there are only five teams (Trillet, Terabits, Sichisers, Anhenir, and Fekler) with negative goal differences — all of them -21 or worse. It's almost like there's no point in promoting teams up to Cintrin A, is there?

Thanks to a barnburner between Mylfe and Huellim, Oillid once again have – say it with me – an eleven-point lead. Um...need something to fill here...hey, did you know that of the fifteen editions of the TakilQuip Champions' Cup that have been played, only one (TQCC12) did not feature either Poiki or Daazyiles in the group stage? Mylfe, Merpisms, and Boalluns gave the VTF three group stage representatives for the first (and only) time since the first TQCC.

The Poiki-Mylfe rematch. It's still the biggest rivalry in Vephrall, despite these two teams not being in the same city. And this time around, the home supporters in Penuls picked up some big-time bragging rights. Not often that this one is decided by four goals.

Matchday 27

Merpisms fall to Boalluns, and as a result Oillid get to extend their lead another point, bringing it to an even dozen. As we speak, we're getting our researchers on the task of finding the largest margin of victory in Vephrese league history so we can see whether we're witnessing potential history here. Down at the foot of the table, Spoantects' loss to Ammites reduces the gap between 15th and 16th to just five points. That means absolutely nothing, of course.

Matchday 28

Stop the presses, Oillid just lost a match! Poiki comes through with a one-nil home victory to hand Oillid only their third defeat of the season. Ammites, Mylfe, Merpisms, Boalluns, and Stestrenas all also win, so it really doesn't help Poiki any, but at least Oillid's lead is back down to a single digit. So ends the third quarter of the season. It still seems likely that Oillid will win the league with a nine-point lead and ten left to play, but of course international qualification is still in play. Don't forget that Poiki has a TQCC spot guaranteed by winning the league last year, and Mylfe has at minimum a Globe Cup spot guaranteed by winning last year's cup.
