Welcome to the Royal Judean Archery Cup, the third tournament of the NationStates Archery Open Tour. The tournament is being hosted by the Royal Society of Judean Archers, the regulating body for sport archery in the Kingdom of Judea.
Yafo, Judea
The Royal Society of Judean Archers reviewed numerous locations for the Cup to be held and ultimately decided on the seaside metropolis of Yafo. The city is known for its beautiful beaches, friendly people and twenty-four hour nightlife. Restaurants feature cuisines from all over the world, ranging from hand-crafted sushi bars to beach hot dog shacks. Yafo is also a center for culture, holding the highest concentration of modern art museums in Judea as trailing only Yerushalayim herself for museums over all.
Archers attending the Cup will be hosted in the Crown Plaza Casino & Hotel in Yafo, a luxury resort on the beaches of the city. Within, guests will find a spa, casino floor, art museum and nine different restaurants, bars and dance clubs. Surfing, parasailing, scuba diving and other aquatic activities are all available with a short walk from the hotel onto the beach.
The Cup will be held in several locations around the city, including the archery fields at Yafo University, the Technical Institute of Yafo and the Yafo Sporting Club.
History of Archery in Judea
In the 4768th year of the world [1008 CE], Yitzchak I solidified his hold on the Holy Land by declaring himself King of Judeans. To mark the occasion, a festival was held in the holy city of Yerushalayim, complete with feasting, performers and feats of arms. Though many bards focused their attentions on the jousting competition, a sport brought to the Holy Land by Christian pilgrims and the knights who defended them, of equal prominence to the king was the archery competition, the first ever held in Judea.
In the early 53rd century [late 15th CE], gunpowder firearms largely replaced the arrow as the primary ranged weapon of Judea. Skill with a bow faded in importance on the battlefield, but the respect for the incredible skill that archery took did not. Archery exhibitions would continue to be held by Judean aristocrats for the next several centuries until it finally passed out of vogue.
Archery again returned to public focus in Judea during the past century as the historical fiction and fantasy genres became widely read among the Judean populace. The sport of archery was resurrected by a collection of enthusiasts who gained a charter as the Royal Society of Judean Archers who were empowered to regulate the sport in Judea. Since that times, the Society has sponsored numerous tournaments all over the kingdom and archery has become one of the most popular sports. Although the Royal Judean Archery Cup has been held multiple times before, this is the first time as an international competition.
Tournament Organization
Each participating nation will be represented by a maximum of six (6) archers in the individual tournament and can also field a team of archers in the team tournament. The top sixteen (16) ranked archers will bypass the qualifiers. All others will participate in a mass shoot for qualification. Exact format will depend on the number of entrants, but the individual tournament main draw is projected for sixty-four (64) participants while the team tournament is projected for sixteen (16) participating teams. Archers will be ranked in the mass shoot by points, with tie breakers of most-bullseyes over leas-misses. All other ties will be settled by lots. The archers that bypass the qualifiers will receive the top seeds for the main draw and qualifying archers and teams will be seeded by their ranking. The semifinalists who fail to advance to the finals will face each other in a match for third place.
There will also be an exhibition bullseye competition, which will feature the top two archers from the mass shoot representing each participating nation. Archers will participate in additional seven mass shoots. Only bullseyes will count during the mass shoots, all other hits will be disregarded. The bullseye competition will not factor into NSAO rankings.
Out-of-Character Information
The scorinator I will use is the xkoronate Men’s recurve individual/team for the individual/team tournament. The bonus used will be a combination of the log of the archer's or team's ranking points and RP bonus points. Schedule will be determined by the number of participants.
