SECURITY COUNCIL

Liberate Greece
A resolution to strike down Delegate-imposed barriers to free entry in a region.

Category: Liberation | Nominee: Greece | Proposed by: Unibot

The Security Council,

Recognizing Greece as one of the oldest surviving regional communities in NationStates and that understanding its relatively complicated history is necessary to fully understand the region's current and dire situation,

Understanding that around August 2009, the two remaining natives of Greece (Grandon and Nikolaos The Great) decided to refound their founderless region to ensure the survival of the community,

Concerned by the fact that a relatively unknown nation, Yauna, happened to refound the region before the native, Nikolaos The Great, which intended to become the new founder of Greece, could,

Taking into consideration that, although Yauna performed its duties to the region's security by eventually repelling invasions, it was a notably inactive nation and even called a “joke” of a founder, by one native,

Reviewing some speculation by natives of Greece that Yauna is secretly allied with a foreign force, the Persian Empire, to protect its status as founder from the natives of Greece who were plotting to refound and commit mutiny against Yauna,

Concluding that, although Yauna made some critical and suspicious administrative decisions (such as permitting delegate access to the regional administration) just leading up to the current recent invasion of Greece by the Persian Empire, if Yauna was, in fact, allied with the Persian Empire, Yauna would have been capable of banning and ejecting the natives of Greece without the assistance of the invaders currently holding the region down (and it is therefore unlikely that Yauna is allied with the invaders),

Deeply concerned by the invasion of Greece that was conducted by the Persian Empire on July 30 2010 -- an invasion that used a condemned technique of invading, often referred to as “Password Grabbing,” that was popularized by Macedon and involves an invader delegate imposing a regional password immediately after successfully claiming the position of delegate,

Aware that the founder, Yauna, has not responded to the civil turmoil in Greece because of inactivity, and has since ceased to exist,

Affirming that a counterattack is impossible to conduct in Greece without the removal of the Delegate-imposed barriers to free entry,

Expecting that, without action by the World Assembly, Greece will become another prized possession of the Persian Empire, much like Ctesiphon, Greek Empire, Parthia, Hayk, Aria and Media -- all of which lack the desirable qualities of a region: activity, access and amenities,

Hereby Authorizes a removal of Delegate-imposed barriers to free entry into Greece to aid in the eternal conflict against those who threaten interregional harmony and goodwill.

Sponsored by the natives of Greece, including but not limited to Grandon and Nikolaos The Great.

Looking good. Looking very good. My only suggestion right now is that you replace "between" with "with" in this clause, for the sake of nice word flow.

Maybe some RPish 'translation' of therms like password, password-grabbing would be needed...
This said, our Most Serene Republic would certainly vote for the proposal.

I've still tried to keep the proposal in-line with Rule IV, so the mods can't spontaneously decide to extend the rule to liberations and delete the proposal, because I can't risk a region's safety for my own political goals. No comment on "passwords" or "password grabbing", because they're both terms that are used in formal interregional roleplay language that could at anytime 'magically' run afoul of Rule IV with only a limited justification (limited to only the points they can refute) as to why, if a mod decides it should because that's what their tealeaves spelled out that morning. No, liberations were never made very clear in relation to rule 4, I believe they said rule 4 applies to C&Cs, but never really talked about liberations, it was assumed that it didn't affect them. I think.

Not your fault at all.

Turns out I had a lot more to say about your wording than I originally thought.

Adopt these suggested modifications if you like. I recommend you do. ;)

Unibot wrote:Recognizing that Greece as one of the oldest surviving regional communities in NationStates and that understanding that its relatively complicated history is necessary to fully understand the region's the current and volatile dire situation in Greece (redundant),

Hope you don't mind the copious amounts of surgery I performed on this clause; it was awkward as hell and needed a serious facelift.

Understanding that around August 2009, the two remaining natives of Greece (Grandon and Nikolaos The Great) decided to refound their founderless region to ensure the survival of the community,

Nothing serious there. Pretty wording. I like it.

Concerned by the fact that a relatively unknown nation, Yauna, happened to refound the region before the native, Nikolaos The Great, who intended to become the new founder of Greece, could,

Some touch-ups here.

Taking into consideration that, although Yauna performed its duties to regional the region's security by eventually repelling invasions, it was a notably inactive nation and even called a “joke” of a founder, by one native,

A few minor grammatical things and a bit of awkwardness there.

Reviewing some speculation by natives of Greece that Yauna is secretly allied with a foreign force, the Persian Empire, to protect its status as founder from the natives of Greece who were plotting to refound and commit mutiny against Yauna,

"Reviewing." Never seen that gerund used in a resolution before. Neat-o.

Concluding that, although Yauna made some critical and suspicious administrative decisions (such as permitting delegate access to the regional administration) (struck the comma here) just leading up to the current recent invasion of Greece by the Persian Empire, if Yauna was, in fact, allied with the Persian Empire, Yauna would have been capable of banning and ejecting the natives of Greece without the assistance of the invaders currently holding the region down (and it is therefore unlikely that he is allied with the invaders),

You and your commas. Learn to use 'em properly!
*smacks Unibot's knuckles with cane*

This clause needs some nipping and tucking. And some implanting. I like my work on it.

Deeply concerned by the invasion of Greece that was conducted by the Persian Empire on July 30 2010 -- an invasion that used a condemned technique of invading, often referred to as “Password Grabbing,(comma INSIDE of quotations!) that was popularized by Macedon and involves an invader delegate instituting introducing a regional password immediately after an invasion successfully claiming the position of delegate,

Don't switch instituting with introducing if you don't want to. Instituting just sounds a little strange in this context. That's my personal preference, though, so by all means, don't change it if you prefer your choice of words.

Also, don't change the second wording if you don't want to. That's another personal preference thing.

Aware that the founder, Yauna, has not responded to the civil turmoil in Greece because of inactivity, and has since ceased to exist,

Good.

Affirming that a counterattack is impossible to conduct in Greece without the removal of the Delegate-imposed barriers to free entry because the Eastern Roman Empire (ERE) (a longtime interregional protector of Greece, and the only defense faction left in the region) has decided to abort its mission in Greece before its dignity is lost in an inevitable clash with the Persian Empire,

Good.

Expecting that, without action by the World Assembly, Greece will become another prized possession of the Persian Empire, much like Ctesiphon, Greek Empire, Parthia, Hayk, Aria and Media -- all of which lack the desirable qualities of a region: activity, access and amenities,

Good, except for that comma. Add the "much" if you want to. I thought it looked nice next to that other comma.

Hereby Authorizes a removal of Delegate-imposed barriers to free entry in Greece to aid in the eternal conflict against those who threaten interregional harmony and goodwill.

Good.

Sponsored by the natives of Greece, including but not limited to Grandon and Nikolaos The Great.

Unibot is missing some insider information there.

The Eastern Roman Empire is not a defender organization as the proposal claims. It was at one point, but only for a few months. After admission into the Alliance Defense Network (ADN) in 2006, it was kicked out in the same year because ERE was found to be invading, refounding, and taking colonies (Ithaca was one of those regions it was invading at the time). For the same reason it applied and never got admitted into FRA. Furthermore, it's founder Byzantine Glory (BG) was once kicked out of the UN for multiing. He was later deleted from the game for another offense. Throughout its history, ERE had used various methods to colonize dozens of regions: Athens, Environment, Antioch, Solar System, Balkan Peninsula, Western Roman Empire, Konstantinoupolis, Aegean Sea, etc, etc. These are just a few.

The ERE is highly territorial and is in Greece only because it wants Greece just like the Persians want Greece. They are not defenders. Ask anyone from TITO (which consists of about one-third of the defender community these days), FRA (the other one-third), Texas, Equilism and others...and no one will tell you they consider ERE defenders.

As such, I would suggest removing the section in red entirely:
Affirming that a counterattack is impossible to conduct in Greece without the removal of the Delegate-imposed barriers to free entry because the Eastern Roman Empire (ERE) (a longtime interregional protector of Greece, and the only defense faction left in the region) has decided to abort its mission in Greece before its dignity is lost in an inevitable clash with the Persian Empire,

You can also ask Grandon. He knows about the fight between Persians and ERE and is also well aware of what I said above.

Well, Grandon appeared to really approve of the ERE, he seemed pretty sure that if the ERE wanted Greece, they could have taken it before now, but they didn't out of goodwill.

However, AD, you're not the first defender who has raised objections to that clause, and you likely wouldn't be the last, so I've removed it per your wishes.

Sorry, the mistakes here were probably a result of either slightly botched surgery, or a slightly botched second attempt by Unibot of my confusing and complicated surgery...

In terms of this proposal, all that means is you'll have to do a quick edit to keep your pronouns consistent. You've used "It" and other genderless terms in some clauses, not in others. eg:

... native, Nikolaos The Great, who intended --> which intended

... therefore unlikely that he is allied --> it or this nation or Yauna

I think I've got 'em all, but AMOM (or anyone else willing) had better sub-edit too, just to make sure.

Thanks Ard, I didn't catch those two. Although I'm not sure if I like 'which', I've tried replacing Nikolaos the Great with another noun like say, "Canada", and it doesn't sit right with me when ever I say it out-loud.

And thanks AMOM, really appreciate the thoroughness.

Charlotte Ryberg supports the liberation proposal. The government has observed the vicious circle which goes like this:

Native founder CTEs, Invasion, Native founder revived, Invasion repelled, Native founder CTEs again and vice versa.
