After the end of the American civil war with the Confederate States of America being freed of the union several western states saw the United states as a weak and outdated nation with a tyrannical ruler. Riots and hatred against the still weakened United states led by Jonathon Arden grew and received more supporters for revolution in the west. The hatred exploded on April 12, 1865 when the Freed States of America declared independence against the United states and ended all relationships with the now severely weekend country. After reaction and revolution the Freed States won their war and were officially declared and recognized by the united Stats as their own separate country and a democratic republic emerged with Jonathon Arden as its first president for two years until he resigned and Louis Becker was then elected.
The Nation was split between three political party's the Democratic party, the Socialist party, and the Federal Republic party until 1880 when the Socialist party died out when extremist John Hawk attempted a coup of the government and several head members were publicly executed. After this event the public mostly supported the Federal Republic party and any other party including the Democratic party faded into obscurity and lost public appeal. In 1880 wary of another coup the government reorganized the military and making it stronger in the process the mostly home trained family musket wielding men turned into a trained force of mostly riflemen with several units of artillery and cavalry. Relations between the United States and the Freed States are still cold, though this young nation is trying to contact and work with its other neighbors.
Culture:
Slavery was a highly debated issue until 1869 when with immense pressure from the abolitionist populace slavery or any act of owning another person was finally outlawed throughout the nation. Tensions against the United States still run high but other than them, the Freed States has no real enemy and seeks to make relations with it's neighbors.
