Auchterland wrote:I felt like trying this, so here it goes.House Name: House Caster
House Sigil: Party per chevron purpure and gules, a castle gules on the dexter in chief and a cat rampant sable in base.
House Words: This We Have Conquered
Allegiance Paid to: House Baratheon of Storm's End
House Seat (Map location required, picture of Castle/town appreciated): Flamecarrier's Hold and the underlying fishing village of Treath on the far northeast of the Stormlands. Note: instead of overlooking something like the Rhine, the castle is overlooking the Narrow Sea.
Approx Number of military at command: 1,300 men and 10 ships.
History of the House (At least two well written paragraphs please): The Caster family has its origins in Pentos, where they existed for generations as sellswords, until Vardan Caster, captain of the mercenary company known as The Silent, decided that Pentos, with the military stagnation it faced imposed by the peace terms of the last war against Braavos, moved the company to Westeros. In 260, he took up a contract to fight the rebels in the War of the Ninepenny Kings, and excelled in orchestrating the infiltration and burning of many ships under the Band of Nine's command, making sure their forces remained divided. For his feats, he was awarded with knighthood and a small plot of land in the Stormlands.
Ser Vardan would then build Flamecarrier's Hold, integrate his mercenaries to the militia of the prior inhabitants of his holdings, and marry Kalia, the daughter of a local merchant. Giving birth to Addario in 265 left her in a weakened state, and four years later, she succumbed to illness. Ser Vardan grew harsher after that and did not marry again, and gave utmost importance to Addario's disciplination, seeing how he, alone, represented the future of his lineage. He would make strategic friendships in order to seek out opportunities for his son, one of them being with Ser Harlan Grandison, whom he convinced to bring Addario as his squire for the duration of the mission against the Kingswood Brotherhood.
Addario's helpfulness in the event won him knighthood and a romance with Jeyne Swann, who had been taken hostage by the Brotherhood. He would be further tested in the following year, during Robert's Rebellion, when both Ser Vardan and Ser Addario joined the lines of House Baratheon. They performed well during the Battles at Summerhall and, in the Battle of Ashford, when Robert's forces were forced to retreat, they defended the rear of the army against pursuing enemies. In this act, Ser Vardan was struck by a spear, and the resulting wound led to his death soon after. Ser Addario would also participate in the Battle of the Trident, during which he helped in the defense against the dornishmen led by Lewyn Martell.
For its services during the war, House Caster was elevated into nobility. Lord Addario arranged his marriage to Jeyne Swann, who gave him two sons and one daughter, and has, in the last years, slowly built up his relations with other nobles and improved roads and ports in his domains, seeking to ensure that House Caster gains some standing in the Seven Kingdoms.
Name: Addario Caster
House: House Caster
Age: 33
Gender: Male
Titles: Lord of Flamecarrier's Hold, Lord of House Caster
House Seat: Flamecarrier's Hold
House Sigil: Party per chevron purpure and gules, a castle gules on the dexter in chief and a cat rampant sable in base.
Allegiance paid to: House Baratheon of Storm's End
Appearance (Picture appreciated): 6 feet tall, athletic, blonde with light brown eyes.
Personality: Addario is a man truly dedicated to his family. Meeting his wife and creating a family of his own filled the gap left by the absence of a mother as he grew up, and the more recent death of his father. Due to the position of his house as a fairly new one, still trying to gain more significance in the game of politics, Addario is very cautious and logic in his steps, and often plays more defensively. Also because of this, he feels somewhat close to the commonfolk, and attempts to be polite to them. He is empathetic and outgoing, but with clear reasoning and established objetives.
Skills: Addario is an experienced fighter, both armed and unarmed, knowledgeable in history and politics, and skilled in diplomacy and intrigue, but passes as an ordinary administrator and military tactician, frequently looking for his advisors' word before taking decisions on these matters.
Weaponry (If any): Spear, arming sword, round shield and dagger.
Military Strength: 1,300 men and 10 ships.
Biography: Addario was born to Ser Vardan, a landed knight and former pentoshi mercenary captain, in 265 AC. His birth left his mother severely weakened, and she never fully recovered, eventually dying due to an illness four years later. As such, he lacked a maternal figure for most of his life, and was subject to his father's high exigences, developing into a very proactive person. He felt somewhat resentful of his father because of the hard training he was forced to go through, but complied nonetheless, afraid that he, the only family his father still had, would disappoint him.
When Addario was at the age of 16, Ser Vardan convinced Ser Harlan Grandison of the Kingsguard, whose house he was well-acquainted with, to bring Addario along with him during the mission to rescue Jeyne Swann from the Kingswood Brotherhood, knowing that it would bring expertise and reputation to his son. During their return, Addario frequently stood close to Jeyne Swann, and he began courting her. He was also knighted following the event.
During Robert's Rebellion, Addario and his father fought in favor of their liege, Robert Baratheon. Ser Vardan fell following the Battle of Ashford, due to wounds inflicted to him by a pike while defending the rear of the retreating Baratheon forces. Addario had to bury him somewhere in the Riverlands, and had little time for mourning, as the war continued. He also fought fiercely in the Battle of the Trident, helping the rebel forces break an advancing unit of dornishmen. The efforts of Addario and his father would later be recognized and rewarded with the elevation of House Caster to nobility.
Following his return to the Stormlands, the now Lord Addario recovered the remains of his father in order to give him a proper burial within his lands, and then arranged his marriage to Jeyne Swann with Lord Gulian. Their first son was born only eight months later, which has led some to rumor that she already bore his child at the time they were wed. In the following years, they would conceive an additional girl and boy, and he would work on educating his offspring well and making improvements to his domain's infrastructure and friendships among the other lords, all to ensure the continued prosperity of his newly formed family.
