Huey knew he would lose the presidential election to Roosevelt, and used the momentum from his campaign to create the America First Union Party with his Share Our Wealth program as his basis. Long proceeded to host political rallies across the USA during the years of Roosevelt, being vehemently opposed by the Roosevelt Administration who called Long "The second most dangerous man in the United States." In 1940, Long founded "The Minutemen," designed as a militant arm of the party who would defend their rallies from groups deemed "Subversive or Disruptive," while also providing protections to various party members. In 1942, Roosevelt initiated a government crackdown on The Minutemen, ordering arrests in mass no different from his Internment of Japanese Americans by Executive Order 9066. Long later fully disbanded The Minutemen, but blasted Roosevelt with Charles Coughlin on his "Lack of Interest in keeping to the Federalist Papers of Revolution." And denounced him with Thomas Jeffersons own words of, " The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

In 1943, due to the ongoing war in the pacific, Huey Long began to advocate for not only for increased political reforms, but began to advocate openly for complete social and political revolution! Declaring that, "The New Deal doesn't fix the underlying problems of poverty, but merely provides a band-aid for failed policies initiated by an outdated political philosophy. In order for America to truly recover, we need to be strong politically, socially, economically, and militarily in order to combat the threats to our survival and our finances." This became popular as the war progressed, and in 1945 near the end of World War II the party had opened over 50,000 clubs and offices all around the country and weakened the Democratic Party's New Dealers who left the party for Longs policies. Although Longs party wasn't recieved as well as in others, he became extremely popular in the South and Mid-Western regions of the country, with Progressive elements from other states voicing support.

In 1947, Longs party would continue advocating their programs of rebuilding america, restructuring it's political philosophies, and making the United States a symbol of greatness for the world to envy. And with his support, it is argued by core circles in government that he may be the most dangerous man in America, and hopes the incoming president Patton will be able to keep him in check. And his opponents paint him as a communist or socialist, which Huey declines by saying, ""This plan is the only defense this country’s got against Communism."
