Welcome to the 69th Cup of Harmony tournament, hosted on behalf of the WCC by...

...Please do not post in this thread unless you have been explicitly invited by a host nation

Another cutthroat World Cup Qualifying cycle has come to pass. In a big cruel multiverse filled with hundreds of football-mad nations, there will always be worthy sides left out. The Cup of Harmony is an invitation-only tournament for those select few who fell short of the World Cup Finals but nevertheless proved their mettle and caught eyes in Qualifying with their guile, steady improvement and admirable effort. The best of the rest! Though it is not the World Cup, this tournament has a long and prestigious history in its own right. Teams that go all-in for the Cup of Harmony can enjoy a deservedly competitive end to their cycle and set themselves up for brighter chances in the next World Cup.

The Fiefdom Soccer Federation (FSF) of Cosumar and Football Association of Ethane (FAE) are proud to be holding the Cup of Harmony on home soil for the first time. We're honored to have your teams in our countries and every measure will be taken to ensure it is an enjoyable experience for all involved (a sentiment to be taken as both IC and OOC). This is the Everything Thread, meaning ALL content relating to Cup of Harmony 69 can and should be posted here (Rosters, RPs, Scores, etc). OOC Discussion should be directed here.

Welcome, all 32 foreign delegations, to the Fiefdom of Cosumar

...

We are a kingdom in northeastern Atlantian Oceania near Audioslavia and the Western Sunrise Islands. The current year of our calendar is 1010, marking over a millennium since Cosumarite civilization dawned with 5800 shipwrecked settlers of unknown origin and diverse ethnicity. The current population is 900 million. Our government is a constitutional monarchy led by the beloved King James II (65) and Queen Charlotte (55).

CULTURE: Cosumar is known for its wide-ranging civil freedoms (including very liberal attitudes on sex and recreational drugs), obsessive space exploration, and harmonious balance between nature preservation and technological advancement. According to the WA Census, Cosumar has the best Human Development Index in Atlantian Oceania and is second-most scientifically-advanced. 70% of Cosumarites are atheist, agnostic or otherwise irreligious and our government is secular. Of the remaining 30%, many adhere to a Cosumarite offshoot of Nordic paganism or other ancient folk religions (13%). There are also small Buddhist, Christian, Muslim and Hindu populations (8% combined). Cosumarites are stereotyped as looking down on religion as "primitive mythology", and while that is not completely unfounded, you will find Cosumarites are even better known for being very welcoming of all people because of our own ethnically diverse origins. Cosumar is deeply cultured, with vibrant art and music scenes thriving in historic urban areas. Ramusok's Renaissance Art and Heavy Metal undergrounds, for example, are internationally known. You can read more about your host city's specific culture below.

NOTE ABOUT VLOO: Endemic to The Western Isles are the Vloo (homo cosumarensis), a sentient humanoid race native to Cosumar. Vloo have blue-tinted skin, two small black horns protruding from their foreheads, and are distinguished by their names, with typically begin with prefixes such as Na' or Va'. The average Vloo height is about two inches taller than that of humans, and their two-pronged foot structure requires different footwear on the pitch. Vloo evolved in island isolation on The Western Isles from a common primordial ancestor millions of years ago. Cosumarites did not set foot on The Western Isles (land AKA "Vloomar") until several centuries into our civilization, after most of our early instability and bloodshed had passed. There was , of course, initial misunderstanding and suspicion, but large-scale violence between the two VERY DIFFERENT societies was mostly avoided. Today, humans and Vloo live side-by-side as equal Cosumarites and relations are healthy. Vloo account for about 3% of Cosumar's total population, though it is much more in the west. Humans and Vloo cannot reproduce, but romantic relationships are not uncommon nevertheless. Vloos' voices tend to sound very thin and "clicky", but you can understand them pretty easily once you get used to it. Their society was extremely collective and selfless prior to integration with Cosumar, with a measured sense of time oddly absent, and many still retain these principles in their communities. More about Vloo culture can be found under Na'Ilee in Group B below. A juvenile Vloo.

GEOGRAPHY & TRAVEL: Cosumar consists of a large landmass called Cosumarus (for context, roughly 70% the size of Australia) and a smaller landmass Klyde's Isle in its eastern waters. Together, they make a shape that is often compared to an alligator's open mouth and a pear about to be swallowed up by it. The land is divided into 21 provinces, historically known as "Fiefs". The Fiefdom also encompasses several extraterrestrial colonies (we mentioned our obsessive space exploration, right?). Please refer to these maps to observe the various cities and regions of Cosumar. We have a diverse array of landscapes. In general, temperature increases as you move up diagonally from the semi-tropical southwest up to the northeastern taiga. Population is the densest on the eastern coast and sparsest in the central desert or Azure Dragon reserve. You can read more about the climate and geography of specific cities below. Travel to population centers is made simple by our innovative TransCosumar Hyperloop, a system of high-speed monorails that safely zips around the country at speeds exceeding 700 miles per hour. Your teams' tickets have already been reserved, with private seating.

LANGUAGE: Most Cosumarites have chips implanted in their brain that allow them to process many of the world's major languages, so communication should seldom be a problem when out touring. Because Cosumar was born from a diverse set of heritages and welcomes many immigrants, this innovation did wonders for helping everybody communicate effectively. The default language is English, but Swedish, Welsh, Vloo click-tongue, Spanish, Esperanto, Norwegian, Finnish, German, Latvian, Slovene, and Japanese all have regions where they are prevalently spoken. A patchwork dialect dubbed "Cosumarite" is also heard here and there, but it is more of a mash-up of English and Nordic tongues than a language of its own.

FOOTBALL/SOCCER: Association Football is extremely popular in Cosumar as both a spectator and recreational sport - first in the Fiefdom in both regards, just ahead of Gridiron Football and Basketball. The Harlighet Ligan ("Glory League") is the highest level of the sport in Cosumar with 18 clubs, dominating our sporting landscape. Read about the most recent season here, including how Real Azuris became the reigning UICA champions. Two additional tiers (the Sekundar Ligan and Tredje Ligan) round out the CosumarLigan system. Further down, hundreds of clubs compete in regional lower leagues (Lägre Ligan). As our leagues have grown in prominence in recent years, the talent of our national team has improved parallel - now a regular in the KPB top ten and competing in its fifth consecutive World Cup. The national team, CosumarLigan system and this very tournament are run by the sprawling Fiefdom Soccer Federation (FSF) and its president, Tomas Navarro. The FSF has invested heavily in promoting this tournament, so expect large neutral crowds of neutrals. Measures have also been taken to accommodate foreign fans in all six host cities to make things even easier for ticket-holders than normal tourists.

Host Cities & Venues

Group A - East

RAMUSOK, RAMUSOK FIEF

The capital city. Home of the royal family and the King's Congress. Epicenter of multiple historic dynasties. Bastion of knowledge and creativity. Young and eccentric, yet clean and elegant. Ramusok is the crown jewel of Cosumar, the pinnacle of a thousand years of Cosumarite civilization, and one of the finest cities in the Multiverse. As a multiversal city, people of all kinds live here, though the city does still retain a strong Swedish component leftover from the old Albertsson Dynasty, evident in many of the place names. Pleasantly moderate for most of the year, though the winters can be chilly.

Tourism: If you appreciate history, Ramusok has much to offer: from the decadent royal palace at Område av Storslagenhet, to the iconic Thomas Street, to the jewel-studded Monolith of Lyra, shrouded in ancient mystery. There are centuries-old libraries and museums everywhere. Yet Ramusok also boasts some of the most stunning modern architecture in the world, coexisting with the ancient in harmonic balance. Just see the stunning all-glass resorts and offices overlooking the water on Azure Lane. Or the Forest of Lamneth - the largest urban nature park in Cosumar. The nightlife is extravagant thanks to the young and "hip" population (due to RCU and many other prestigious universities in town). Make sure to catch some of the live music at night - there are venues specifically dedicated to genres ranging from black metal to neoclassical to indie pop to avant-garde jazz.

Venue: Fire River Arena (80,000) - One of the oldest and most historic stadiums in Cosumar. Fire River Arena was the home of the Cosumar National Team for its first five World Cups (51-55) prior to the construction of Leviathan Arena for World Cup 56. Fire River Arena still hosts the first home World Cup Qualifying match each cycle out of tradition, as well as the odd friendly. Domestically, it is the home of the Harlighet Ligan's Ramusok United. The club's supporters fill the arena with blue shirts each weekend. It got its curious name from a local legend. The Sampson River, which runs into the ocean just a mile away, was a key tactical location in the battles of ancient Cosumar. When Mikael The Magnificent completed his conquest of the area, he was said to have kept miles of its shoreline in flames as a sign of sheer intimidation. He was even said to have dumped such a quantity of explosives into the river that flames danced upon the waters for two whole weeks. Fire River.

SAMOTATH, PAROUGAN FIEF

The northernmost host city, Samotath is the last bastion of civilization before the heavily-populated eastern seaboard segues abruptly into the enchanted wildernesses of the northern peninsula. It is an important port and sailor's city, often the first stop for ships coming in from countries to the north like Chromatika, and is also home to the Cosumar Navy. Samotath is known for its harsh winds, as it is the only major east coast city that is not shielded from the ocean gales by Klyde Isle. In the winter, these winds become freezing and make it difficult to stay outside for more than 15 minutes.

Tourism: Before Cosumar was unified four centuries ago, Samotath was the epicenter of many important dynasties in the northern region. Many historical sites remain from those ancient times, such as the famous Lochinvar Castle. The primary draw to the city, however, is nature. It borders the southern edge of the famous Cosumarite Azure Dragon Reserve, which sprawls across most of the northern peninsula. If you can brave the bitter winds, the many hiking or horseback trips near the peninsula's border are exquisite (going further in not advised because dragons, which you might spot in the distant sky if you're lucky). The landscape consists of ancient rolling hills and small rocky mountains, cliffs and other odd rock formations, all thickly forested by pine and other evergreen trees. These deep, dark forests are thought to have mystical properties and are holy in some old folk religions of the region. The city itself is known for its uniform style of architecture - most of the large buildings are solid black steel or dark glass. It makes for a rather badass skyline.

Venue: Alesund Stadion (60,000) - The new home of FC Samotath, Alesund Stadion was completed three years ago to upgrade Samo's old crumbling stadium. It is the newest host stadium of the Cup of Harmony. Its technology and shape were intentionally designed to be "Futuristic" and match the black-glass feel of the surrounding city. From the walls to the floors, everything inside is black as well...except for the red seats that spell SAMOTATH.

Group B - West

NA'ILEE, NA'MALSILLE FIEF

Na'Ilee is the largest city of The Western Isles, a cluster of islands off the coast of southwestern Cosumar. The Na'Ilee area in particular is believed to be the birthplace of the Vloo species, and is the only Vloo-majority city of over a million in Cosumar.

Tourism: Na'Malsille island has a warm, humid climate. There are some decent beaches to swim at, with the west coast being particularly famous for surfing with the huge ocean currents. Much of the rest of Na'Malsille island is developed now, but what isn't is swamp/marshland or estuaries known for birdwatching. The city of Na'Ilee itself, on the central high ground of the island, has a particularly Vloo flavor. From the food (hope you like insects) to the architecture (circular podlike structures) to the "clicky" language, meditative music and peculiar etiquette, Na'Ilee is where tourists go to soak up the modern Vloo culture. There are several fascinating museums about Vloo and Vloo-human history as well as old holy sites of Vloo spirituality. More recently, Na'Ilee has attracted curious foreigners because of its overpopulation of Cocodragons, which are now considered pests in the city. The Cocodragon population in Na'Ilee is much higher than in any other Cosumarite city - it is not uncommon to see the silly things harassing customers for food at outdoor cafes and such.

Venue: Varela Road (40,000) - This will be the first major tournament hosted in The Western Isles, and the historic Va'Rehla Road (anglicized: Varela) has been expanded from 35,000 to 40,000 capacity for the occasion. The Vloo community has long criticized the FSF for avoiding "Vloo country" when scheduling international friendlies and tournaments, but at long last the pre-Cosumar epicenter of old Vloo society has its chance to open its arms to the multiverse. If foreign visitors are put off by the huge numbers of Vloo here, they'll just have to deal with it. Varela Road itself is an intimate stadium. What it lacks in high-tech amenities it makes up for with its colorful charm and loud acoustics. It is the only home the Na'Malsille Mariners club has ever known.

Matches: Brenecia vs. Kitsunia-Deese (MD1), Kitsunia-Deese vs. Tinhampton (MD2), Tinhampton vs. Brenecia (MD3), Quarterfinal 1

HAGENHEIM, DUVERSIA FIEF

Hagenheim is an oasis of civilization (2.7 million) smack in the middle of Pristine Forest, Cosumar's largest expanse of uninterrupted nature. Located in Cosumar's far northwest, it is often a little nippy and spends the winter blanketed in snow. Hagenheim is Cosumar's "greenest" city in every possible way. Appearance-wise, it's as if the city is growing out of the forest - there are trees and vines and shit all over the place like some kind of urban jungle. Like how you would imagine an abandoned city to look in 100 years. Many people live in elaborate treehouses, sometimes networked together to form tree-neighborhoods (a concept expanded upon in Kalloroda). 58% of the population is vegan and another 19% is vegetarian. Hagenheim is also Cosumar's hub for renewable energy innovation and has the lowest carbon emissions of any city with over 2 million people. Perhaps unsurprisingly by this point, it's also known as the "hipster" capital of Cosumar. Hipsters, hipsters everywhere.

Tourism: The whole freaking city is awesome to explore. It's so unorganized, like a maze, with cool hidden places all around that you can stumble into. South End is known for having the most expansive tree-neighborhood, and is open to visitors. Indie rock, folktronica, alternative hip hop, new wave and other 'hipster genres' have thriving scenes in Hagenheim, which also has the most record stores per square mile of any Cosumarite city. Coffee shops and hookah lounges are also ubiquitous. Hagenheim also has by far the most marijuana use per capita of any Cosumarite city. If you walk down the road for more than ten minutes, someone is bound to offer you some.

Venue: Jorn Hagen Memorial Stadium (36,000) - A field with a lot of history, as it is over 150 years old. Like the rest of Hagenheim, it is seemingly built into the natural environment. Home to the CFL's Hagenheim Vagabonds, lacrosse team Hagenheim Elves and Sekundar Ligan (second division) club Pristine Forest (its original tenant, which was a much bigger force a few decades ago when the stadium was built).

Group C - Central

CASSANDRA, CRESSCALUS FIEF

Cassandra is Cosumar's glitzville. This city revolves around showbiz and celebrity. Our versions of both Hollywood and Broadway are here, as is the only legal casino in the Fiefdom. Located in the barren northern steppe between the Pristine Forest and the mountainous northern peninsula, Cassandra has little to speak of in terms of landscape. But it grew into an important city due to its location on the bank of the Pristine River, which connected eastern Cosumar to the west in the early days of continental expansion. Cassandra's northernness and flat landscape means it is taking the brunt of cold winter winds. The weather is cool but nice at the moment, however.

Tourism: People flock to Cassandra for the famous plays and musicals on Staropoli Street, the film studios, and the celebrity-sighting. Oh yeah, and did we mention the ten-story Cassandra Megacasino? Gambling is outlawed everywhere in Cosumar except on its premises. There are also extravagant attractions of even less reputable nature, such as the largest luxury brothel in Cosumar, and the most strip clubs per capita in the northeastern region. An "anything goes" pilgrimage to Cassandra is a rite of passage for young adults across the region.

Venue: The Amphitheatre (60,000) - A fitting name for the finest grounds in this theatrical city. Home to Cassandra City, one of the biggest clubs in Cosumar. The Amphitheatre was expanded to 60,000 seats for Baptism of Fire 63 and the purposes of attracting a UICA Final, and those extra seats will come in handy again here. During the renovations, it was also equipped with pitch-heaters and a retractable roof. It's most famous for its extremely bright headlights that illuminate the pitch more than most stadiums during night matches...visiting players often complain about the brightness. Don't get stage fright!

Matches: Revolutionary Nordskania vs. Mriin (MD1), Barunia vs. Revolutionary Nordskania (MD2), Mriin vs. Barunia (MD3), Ro16 3

PELETHAS, MORPONTE FIEF

Pelethas is the Mediterranea of Cosumar. It has everything. Dat climate. Beaches. Mountains. Nestled on the south-central coast between the Jagged Mountains and the ocean, there is an enormous mountain chain to the north and beautiful golden-sand beaches (the finest in Cosumar) to the south. Pelethas has a prevailing image as a tourist town with more vacationers than actual inhabitants, but with a population of 3.1 million, Pelethas' size is often underestimated even by Cosumarites. Thanks to the mountains, precipitation rates are very high, enabling Pelethas to also contribute to the economy via agriculture. Of course, the fruit, nut and vegetable farms aren't too glamorous, so they're a bit removed from the actual city for the tourists' sakes. Except the vineyards of course, because tourists like wine more than carrots. Mining towns of Scottish heritage dot the land of north of Pelethas amongst the first mountain slopes, giving local side Pelethas United their "Miners" nickname.

Tourism: Whether your team likes to ski or jetski, or rock climb or suntan...there's something for them here. Pelethas Peak (8,912 meters) is the third-highest point in Cosumar and towers behind the city skyline. Getting to the view at the top would make for a great profile pic! In the city itself, there's tons and tons of shopping. And more shopping. Oh, and Cosumar's largest chocolate factory, tallest roller coaster, and most comprehensive anatomical museum.

Venue: The Xanadu Dome (74,000) - After finally finishing construction six years ago, the state-of-the-art Xanadu Dome is already no stranger to big events, having recently held the World Bowl Final and Baptism of Fire Quarterfinals. The regular tenant is massively popular gridiron team Pelethas Thunder (Pelethas being one of the few cities in Cosumar where soccer is not the king sport), but The XD was designed with soccer in mind as well. With its artsy interior décor and magnificent glass exterior, The Xanadu Dome is hailed as a wonder of modern sport architecture. Will your team be the next of what will someday be many historic teams to achieve greatness in this modern-classic venue?

Welcome to Ethane

Ethane, also known by the chemical formula attributed to its name, is a democratic, politically divided nation located in the region of Esportiva, home to 20 million people. Having recently gone through a period of change, with the long-standing Liberal-Democratic Party, a centrist party committed to increasing defence spending and the economy to the detriment of the environment and social security, being voted out in favour of the left-wing Greener Ethane party, who are more committed to improving the environment and education. However, with the rise of the far-right in the new election of MoralEthane!, this position is being reversed.

The capital city of Ethane is New Sarum, which is home to about 2 million inhabitants, and is adjacent to the major tourist site of Old Sarum, also near to StoneHedge. There are many cities and towns scattered around the nation, spread out, with the largest city located about 250 miles from New Sarum, in Swanmouth, home to about 3 million people. The Isle of Lowe is home to about 400,000 people itself, and is regarded as 'the most beautiful part of Ethane' - most of the Island is wild, and has multiple small 'wild' islands alongside it.

Ethane is famous in many ways, notably for its sporting appearances, which has seen the nation start to become recognised in sporting fields around the world, as well as its performances at Worldvision and the World Hit Festival. The nation is also known for its high living standards, strong economy, specialising in Information Technology, in which it has one of the largest of the IT sectors in Esportiva, and Publishing, its educational standards, and its move towards green energy, which the government is aiming for a 100% renewables in the next 25 years. It is currently around 40% renewable energy. However, this may not continue after the election.

Transportation
The transport in Ethane benefits from high levels of government funding which benefit the quality of service, with private companies also consolidating the transport network in Ethane. Most of the large cities in Ethane have strong public transport links within them, heavily subsidised buses being the most commonly used way to get around. Also in the two main cities, New Sarum and Swanmouth, eco-friendly modes of transport are also available to be used, including bikes which can be hired and dropped off at later stages along your cycling route.

Bus services also cover most moderately sized towns, with rural areas and small towns and villages being covered by less regular bus services which operate out of a main town or city nearby. There are many long-distance routes also available in Ethane, between many of the major cities and towns, which often stop at rural locations to increase the coverage of the bus service.

Trains also provide a viable option for transport in Ethane, connecting many of the main cities and towns, and providing a cheap, fast, and environmentally friendly way to travel around Ethane. ChemRail provides a fast and reliable train journey between stations, but if you are looking for better quality, or high-speed trains then the best place to look is towards the private companies. The rails have all been electrified, providing an environmentally friendly way of transporting people around the nation.

For longer haul journeys from other nations, we do have a few airports across the country, albeit they are fairly small due to the regulations placed on plane emissions. HITAir provides a strong service to many major countries around the multiverse, with regular flights allowing fans to stream in for the championships. Most transport is state owned in Ethane, so the if the quality is not as expected, feel free to complain to the government.

Hotels
With the tourist industry booming once again, hotels are once again back in action, with a range of places for those visiting to stay. From 2* hotels to 5* hotels, we strive to provide you with the best accommodation possible. There is the option of either going state funded hotels, or you can go with the private sector.

Food and Drink
There are many places to eat in Ethane, with many restaurants and fast food chains all over Ethane. There are multiple places you can eat at, including the locally born restaurant and fast food chain, Treaters, who have signed a contract with Superchaps of Oisinistan to open a load of their franchises in Ethane, providing an even larger range of food to eat. With multiple food venues across the country, you are sure to find something to your liking.

Entertainment
There are many things you can do while in Ethane for entertainment away from the International Basketball Championships.

In New Sarum, we have multiple cinema and bowling complexes for the enjoyment of our visitors and residents alike, which are often relatively popular. There are many other entertainment complexes in New Sarum as well, which more can be found out about in the tourist information centre. Nearby to New Sarum, you have the historic castle fort of Old Sarum, which provides a good day out, as it is located in the centre of a large wildlife reserve, which is a place where you can often see rare animals lurking about. StoneHedge is also popular and nearby to New Sarum, providing a good family afternoon out, with activities for everyone, and special events running throughout the tournament.

Swanmouth also provides visitors with a great many visitor attractions to visit as well as entertainment complexes. The city itself is also only a 45 minute bus journey away from one of Ethane's finest national parks, the Glade Forest. This provides a good place for walks, as well as adventurous activities and bike hire, as well as being a good place for camping holidays. Further away from this event, you have the fairly mountainous regions of the nation, especially on the island, which provide spectacular views for those visiting, and can have snow on in the winter for skiing.

The stadium is situated in New Sarum, the capital of Ethane. New Sarum is the metropolitan hub of Ethane. Home to around 1 million people, it is nestled on the south-west coast of Ethane. It does sometimes get hit by storms coming up from the sea but does have elements of protection. Green energy is in common usage here, and liberal ideas are well-spread throughout the population. It is has been mostly unaffected with the economic downturn, with the tourist industry and other industries which New Sarum relies on not taking so much of a hit.

The stadium can hold 60,000 people in the setup as shown above. Group D will play here.

St. Maries Stadium

The stadium is located in Southern Hampton, which is on the southern end of the Isle of Lowe. This is off the coast of Ethane and is accessible by boat and plane, with special ferries and flights put in place for when matches are on. The airport is small however on the island, so much of the travel to the Isle of Lowe is by boat. The Isle of Lowe is a beatiful place with heavy focus on natural beauty. The nothern side of the island is very mountainous and is great for hikes. The island is very conservative and traditionalist in its ideals.

The stadium can hold 41,115 people. Group E will play here.

This stadium is located in Letson, located in the south of Ethane. The city is heavily reliant on the tourism industry, with a decent beach and strong historical connections and landmarks as part of a tour of Ethane. The city is very rich in its cultural history and art which can be seen as you walk around the city. Letson is home to around 500,000 people, but feels a lot more homely than the other large cities.

The stadium can hold up to 38,650 people. Group F will play here.

Brannigan Stadium

The stadium is located in the north-western part of New Sarum. The stadium can hold up to 55,600 people. Group G will play here.

Esportivan and Proud.
<drawk> If the entirety of the nation of Ethane was covered in a single cubic foot of Ethane on its surface, lighting it all on fire would cause a 5.44 megaton blast.

World Cup 77 seemed like destiny for the Qads. Rankings went down from 69th to 77th, yet it was rumored to be fate (from CoH69 to WC77). Despite a strong performance in the qualifiers, Semarland's disqualification was lifted two matches beforehand of the end, ending what was once a dream run, finishing in 4th place out of 10.

Despite the fall, QAFA has yet to fall far from determination. With strong faces such as Barunia, Turori, and Brenecia failing as well, the Cup of Harmony in Cosumar and Ethane will become exponentially more difficult than the events at SCHOBEC. As Anglatia and the Explorers soar into their finals debut, Qasden's threat from 68 is gone, meaning our chances of advancing will become greater. Now, it's time to fully see the roster of your CoH 69 Qasden National Team!

Squadra Nazionale di Juvencus

Image

How they got here

Juvencus started its campaign all the way back to the Baptism of Fire's 64 installment. There, an inexperienced Juvencus team progressed from the group stages with 2 victories and a loss. The campaign started nicely with Juvencus beating the squad of Averyickan city with 1-2 after being 1-0 back, due to bad passing, the saviour of the day was Rodolfo Gallo however, who scored 2 headers in the last few minutes of the match to give Juvencus the edge. Next matchday was really bad, Juvencus kept their horrific passing on the next matchday against a pretty mighty Coldfield, putting Juvencus' campaign on jeopardy. Luckily, the next matchday against Verukt wasn't really hard for the squad, they beat Verukt 0-2 after putting it all in to get through, which worked. Vives' bicycle as well as Alberighi's free kick put Juvencus through, the odds though were against the squad as they were facing Mriin. Mriin would be the squad to eliminated Juvencus in the round of 16, beating the team 2-1 after Juvencus' horrific display in the first half. The second half would only be considered a consolation for the Juven squad as they managed to score one to leave the Baptism of Fire with their heads up.

The qualifying stages for the world cup would be described in 2 words. Well worked. A nice display from the Juvencus team throught most of the qualifiers, which started quite rocky with a goalless draw against 4th placed in the Baptism of Fire team Great Caledonia and North Hybernia, as well as a bare defeat to Anglatia with 3-4. The latter saw Juvencus pulling off the worst fire half of their history, hey were however able to get close to a comeback, twice. Once making it 2-3, before a Madeiros own goal put the Imperials up in front before a late consolation goal by Martell would reduce the margin to 1 once more. Next game saw Juvencus' first win in the qualifiers, a stunning 0-3 victory against then 98th ranked globally Tobiasia with the goals being scored by Martell, Gallo and Vives. Then the squads kept going with their heads up to Eastfield Lodge, making their first upset on the qualifiers, tying with the quite more experienced team 1-1. Despite Juvencus being back 1-0, they came back with a nice -although- cheeky Martell goal. A loss to Turori and a victory against Mattijana and Kaisaru followed till that fateful day in Torona, against Savojarna. In quite a controversial fashion, Savojarna were able to snatch a 0-1 victory and get ahead of Juvencus. Despite the low morale, Juvencus hosted Brenecia, making their second upset in the qualifiers, in quite possibly the best performed match in the whole qualifiers, with quite an aggressive play by both sides. The second half saw Juvencus starting well with a 3-0 victory against Great Caledonia and North Hybernia but 3 defeats followed, before snatching a victory against Mattijana and Kaisaru and tying with Savojarna away. The group stages ended with a defeat against Brenecia with 3-2. Juvencus was ranked 6th with 22 points and climbed from 220th globally all the way up to 101st.

A performance as good as this meant that Juvencus were favourites to get an invitation to the most prestigious tournament for people who didn't manage to qualify for the World Cup, the Cup of Harmony. The coach as well as the whole squad and citizens of Juvencus hope in a good performance in the Cup of Harmony establishing their status as a squad.

The tactics

Juvencus played a not so defensive seeming 3-4-3 version in the qualifiers, which they are going to keep for this edition of the Cup of Harmony. The Juven squad loves defensive and counteroffensive play, since most players are really fast. If counterattack won't work, Juven players may get the fullest of their great foul taking ability, as well as foul kicking. With both Martell and Alberighi scoring fouls in both the Baptism of Fire the World Cup Qualifiers.

Those without a proper nickname

Veldgouwen

Eliminated from the Baptism of Fire 63 in the Quarterfinals on penalty kicks after five consecutive victories.
Made it to fourth in Group 3 of the WC76 qualifiers, taking 17 points (5-2-5) before being slayed in the first knock-out round of the Cup of Harmony.
Reached, contrary to all expectations, the final of the inaugural Independents Cup before falling to Schottia.
Failed at the last hurdle to qualify for the World Cup 77, eventually grabbing 36 points out of a possible 54 and coming in third.

Home games will be contested at The Ship, the stadium from Piershaven Club.

Head Coach

Johan Valkeniers

Of all the decisions of the VNVB (Veldgouwen FA), picking Johan Valkeniers as manager of this novice team certainly was one of the most contested ones. Such does not refer to his slate of honour as a player, which includes a longlist of trophies during the amateur days and playing a major part in the two titles of Westerzandse VV, where Valkeniers had a prolific Indian summer. Rather it is his complete lack of experience in the cockpit of a team which makes him more than a surprise choice. Once he hung up his boots, the 50-year old made himself an even more well-known face as a pundit for major television channels and newspapers, a role in which he seldom forgets to use the vinegar and dares to kick against many shins. With that in mind, it’s strange that the VNVB even considered someone with that amount of enemies. But, credit where credit is due, his tactical capacity is uncontested and his vocal guidance gives a good vibe to a still unaccustomed team.

Assistant Coach

Ronny Allaerts

Those guys that sit in the plush during games decided they needed to counterbalance the boisterous and outspoken Valkeniers and offered a half-time contract to a man who has earned quite some respect in the inner circle for his work with Piershaven Club, even if Allaerts is less known for the public. Those who do might rather recall him as a mediocre defender who plied his trade with perennial elevator clubs such as Zwarte Leeuwen Brust and Rapid Almskerk. However, his current reputation as a valuable assistant is built on his relentless number crunching. Whatever Ronny Allaerts lacks in national authority, he makes up in vision to turn free-kicks and corners into dangerous weapons, as he demonstrated in his time at Club who rein in title after title.

23 – Goalkeeper – 20 years old – Racing Vlierdrecht

Corné Van Luchene

With the retirement of Vandermarliere, a spot between the posts became available and Valkeniers opted for the future with the inclusion of Van Luchene. As he did before with Oberink, launching this promising goalie should give him options for the future when the need is there. Breaking into the first formation of the Zwarte Leeuwen Brust at seventeen, he quickly got snapped up by an ambitious Racing Vlierdrecht. No wonder as Van Luchene combines presence and a big mouth with amazing reflexes on his line. In the air, however, he still is slightly vulnerable and with 1m87, he’ll never be an ace in that department of the skills. Being in this selection will be, save for injuries, most that’s in it for him and it will be focusing on getting to learn from his senior teammates. Has a lot of fans due to being one of the first players on the squad who shows his presence on social media.

12 – Goalkeeper – 30 years old – Spierendam FC

Hubert Van Boxelaere

Every good goalkeeper is a bit crazy, it is said and there is no one who made such a personal badge of honour of eccentricity across the nation as Van Boxelaere, a tall and powerful goalie who loves making that spectacular dive when you can just catch the ball. Nonetheless, he is correctly considered to be one of the most reliable ones around due to this remarkable capacity to make the most impossible saves. Always outspoken and not afraid to put a manager in his place, he has been seen as a liability in previous clubs but his excellent relationship with gaffer Karsten Hoeksma makes him a cornerstone of Spierendam. Many worry whether he will not clash with Oberink, having to deal with a role as back-up, but he seems to have cooled down a little with the years, as evidenced by the lack of press conflicts last season. That’s a good enough thing, right? Valkeniers will have his hands full with him, but so does any opposing striker.

1 – Goalkeeper – 25 years old – Piershaven Club

Simon Oberink

Grief concerns were raised ahead of the Baptism of Fire for including a junior who could bank on little more than two years between the sticks for a relegation battler. Nonetheless, that dodgy move did certainly pay off. Valkeniers has confidence in the unmistakable talent from Oberink, who is quick to the ground and gives catlike reflexes a new ring. Also importantly, he has the right character to deal with a permanent role as second-string solution, having always been considered a bit too short to make it at Belden Sport before making the step back to Plek and breaking his supposed limits there. Last year, he took another step up by making a huge transfer to Piershaven Club and his performances in the Independents Cup raised his profile as number one goalie for the national team as well. With the confidence of both his manager and his defenders, Oberink has been strong throughout the qualifiers.

2 – Right Defender – 29 years old – Racing Vlierdrecht

Derk Breydels

Valkeniers never made a secret of his ambition to play with attentive and active wingbacks and such a role fits Derk Breydels like a glove. The right attacker turned defender won’t hesitate to go back and forth near his side line a baker’s dozen times each half and this set of lungs earned him the nickname Roadrunner. Breydels’ natural guts is shown by the transfer he made at twenty, leaving his youth team Vlierdrecht Sport for cross-city rivals Racing but hasn't regretted so as Sport lingers in the second tier these days, whilst Racing has gone on to win two titles with Breydels as an essential element of the line-up. His crosses will hurt many opponents at this level and he allows the team to move up the pitch incredibly fast, but he needs a reliable man by his side to cover for the risks he takes. Breydels was one of those that most caught the eye during his previous appearances.

3 – Central Defender – 33 years old – Union Fiersem

Carlos Deferme

With just a single Liga Beker won, the trophy cupboard of Deferme does not represent the status he has built up across the last decade in Veldgouwen. Initially a journeyman with stints in Pellegem, Corinthians, Racing Grawarden and Plek, his transfer to Union allowed the club to transform from a straggler into a reliable side, being the sole to challenge Piershaven Club lately. Carlos Deferme is a no-nonsense old-school defender who will take no prisoners but is clever enough to avoid abundant yellow cards. His fine heading results in a goal or four yearly, certainly an extra weapon on corner kicks. Off the pitch, he is notorious for being completely devoid of any star attitude, which makes him a bit of a hero for any Fiersem fan. It also allows them to turn a blind eye on his mediocre passing and incapacity to open up the game with a proper cross. Age seems to have no impact on him and he’s a rock on which the team builds. However, a racism-related clash made him a slightly contested figure in public.

4 – Central Defender – 27 years old – Piershaven Club

Sven Wittouck

Making up for the lack of technical skills for Deferme and Mortelmans at the core of the team, we may assume that Sven Wittouck will continue to be a regular starter for this formation. Having made his way up the ladder originating from Third Divisionist Go Ahead Pachtem, he has joined Piershaven Club from Vitesse Ravenstad three seasons ago for over six million, still a record figure for a defender. But Club hasn’t regretted the move, three titles and cup final victory later, trophies in which Wittouck played his part with bravado. One can be assured of tight defending and the capacity to deal with Gegenpressure when putting him in the middle of your defence. He still lacks some presence and can be conned in the air, but for what goes a modern defender, Sven Wittouck is the full package with still room for further growth in his already fine skillset. Has become more vocal as well.

5 – Left Defender – 30 years old – Spierendam FC

Kieran Maes

The second selected player from the Canaries is considered a sure bet for a starter. After a stint with Belden Sport, he made the switch to Spierendam three seasons ago. An excellent choice, as the 3-4-3 employed by the always optimistic side from the historical capital from the nation might never lift them to the absolute summit of the table but fits someone with the skillset of Maes like a glove. There is speed but what catches the eye is his marvellous positioning and capacity to nip an attack in the bud cleanly without resorting himself to bringing in the chainsaw or kicking the leather over the stands. Reliable on and off the field, Kieran Maes has been chosen in the team of the year eight seasons on end now, a testimony to his consistency. Or maybe to our lack of other proper left backs. In international company, we have seen a few mediocre moments as well and he will not get better with age.

13 – Central Defender – 25 years old – Vitesse Ravenstad

Mike Mortelmans

Currently, Mortelmans still plies his trade for one of the poorest clubs in the top tier but the question remains how long that is going to last – Mike Mortelmans might be the hottest prospect on the market. As a youngster, his lack of discipline ensured that he never really broke through at Koninklijke Pellegem but since he left the Royals behind and moved to small-town Ravenstad, Mortelmans has blossomed. Get ready for a good ninety kilograms of raw power that tear up many an opponent and make him excellent when dealing with sturdier strikers. He is faster than you would presume but his technical limitations probably will put him on the bench for the national team. This man is still prone to picking up unnecessary cards but his off-field antics, for many teams a reason not to buy him, have calmed ever since marrying one of Veldgouwens most notorious models. Often called Iron Mike.

14 – Left Defender – 21 years old – Vitesse Ravenstad

Matthias Hermans

Making the cut for the ICup was considered a relative surprise to the press but the lack of depth for left-backs made him pop up quicker than expected. Hermans offers a tactical alternative to Maes, being much less of a clever ballwinner and runner along the wing, but more of a no-nonsense person. His amazing long throw has been used as a weapon by his team and it is no secret that Valkeniers wouldn't mind resorting to that tactic when the situation asks for it. Off the pitch, this young face has gathered a bit of a reputation for his involvement in free fighting - officially only supporting crews of his friends and not in an active role. His long-term potential and a tad of maturity should allow him to evolve into a more decisive position. According to the expectations, we should see the debut of Hermans across this campaign but for a lot of commentators, he lacks the capacity to truly become an international starter.

19 – Right Defender – 23 years old – Piershaven Club

Lasse Vandertoren

This recent addition to the national team is the latest diamond from the crown of perennial powerhouse Piershaven Club. Having plied his trade at Corinthians Haven during his youth years, Vandertoren was picked up at 16 by Club and has broken into the team only a season and a bit later. In a side that is used to having the upper hand, he is excellent in balancing his defensive obligations with his attacking opportunities, not seldom finding an unmarked man in the box. However, he lacks the pure speed for a wing defender and can be caught by a very technical opponent, making him an option not to use every time at the national side. Vandertoren is one of the players Valkeniers hopes to prepare for the longer term, seeing in him a future stronghold of the national side. The maturity he displays at Piershaven should give all confidence on what is about to come for him and taking over from Breydels is only a matter of time, but he failed to convince during the recent World Cup qualifiers.

15 – Defensive Midfielder – 31 years old – Piershaven Club

Wim Vreysen

One of the six Piershaven Club players in this selection, Wim Vreysen is respected as the silent architect behind the incredible success of the last years, having won nine domestic trophies across eight seasons. With passing rates usually in the top half of ninety procent, Vreysen is the metronome who ensures that people can pick out their moment to find a hole in the opposing backline. The lack of risk in his game might be the main criticism given but those who play with him on a daily basis know the value of this prototype of a professional, in the best sense of the word. A dream for coaches and referees, Vreysen will speak up seldom but when times get rough, he is not afraid to lead the way. For the national side, Vreysen had that same role but when the pace gets higher, he gets replaced. Will probably play against weaker opponents. Has gained some notoriety amongst the non-sports fans when he became the face of an anti-racism campaign.

8 – Box-to-box Midfielder – 24 years old – Racing Grawarden

Jim Decubber

Despite being a regular squad player at Piershaven Club at only seventeen, he left the stadium of the domestic powerhouse with revolving doors after a financial dispute. Many were surprised that he joined the modest Grawarden but that turned out to be the correct decision. Despite his age, he already has a team revolving around him which goes along in his dynamic, energy-absorbing style. Go hard or go home, something that gets confirmed by his clubbing records at night. Still, Racing knows that they have to hold on to their diamond as Decubber singlehandedly might make them champion one day. Always top marks when it comes to ground covered and passing, matched to a more than average tackle and vision, which makes him an interesting teammate: does more than his dirty work and can pop up to score on your pass, but a bit of a hothead when things don’t go his way. A driving force to this squad and the captain despite his young age.

23 – Attacking Midfielder – 28 years old – Eendracht Rankelsven

Gert Stalhof

A special figure with a similar story attached to his name. At only sixteen, Gert Stalhof popped up in the first team of Spierendam FC. It did not take too much time for him to become a fan favourite with his short dribbles, long passes and unseen stamina for a player of his stature. Hiding in an enigma, his silence only pierced by a rare tantrum, made him even more of a figure for the ages. Before being 20, Stalhof had already won two titles with his team but it seemed as if the fame was too much to hold for him. He became less and less seen on the training pitch and started to go down along with his side. Aiming for new glory, he made a surprise transfer to Pellegem but a horror injury kept him off the field for two years. Restarted this season for Rankelsven and immediately his displays of raw talent made him resurface. For Valkeniers, it was enough to make him his number ten but Stalhof still seems fragile, both physically and mentally.

7 – Right Midfielder – 19 years old – Racing Grawarden

Yassin Tarki

After a series of disappointing performances in the national shirt, someone had to replace Boudewijn Snoeks as the quick, offensive right midfielder in the formation. Eventually, the choice fell amidst a lot of controversy on Yassin Tarki. All sorts of reasons were put against the decision of Valkeniers, who as usual couldn’t care less. That Tarki so far only played forty games at the highest level and scored fairly few times in those, did hold some weight. That Tarki himself doesn’t hold too much weight, is another one and that there are a few alternative candidates was voiced quite often as well. But much deeper were the traces of racism in many comments, as Tarki will be the first player representing Veldgouwen with a different ethnicity. Although only being the first of a generation of exciting talents, unfortunately many people haven’t accepted his presence in the selection, on the pitch or in the dressing room.

11 – Left Midfielder – 31 years old – Union Fiersem

Marnix Van Baekel

If Johan Valkeniers can rely on someone to always be there, for better and for worse, it is the short Van Baekel. The lanky player usually sticks to his wing except on free kicks and corners where he brings his magnificent cross in action from a different position. A left foot that can telepathically guide the ball anywhere in the box, Marnix learned his trade in the lower divisions for Sparta Leusden and VC Lovingem but since Fiersem gave him a chance, things have gone quick. Apart from regularly leading all assisting pass statistics, Van Baekel does not feel too good to neglect his defensive duties, a style which matches Union. A lightweight, he will be of little use when it comes to duelling but he perfected cutting off the space of opponents and stops several counters in their tracks so. Could be a little bit quicker and the dynamic with his back is crucial, but it clicks surprisingly well with Kieran Maes.

6 – Defensive Defender – 21 years old – Rapid Almskerk

Dan Troch

The youngest one ever to get selected and still the junior amongst the starters. His role in the title for the second tier of Rapid did catch the attention of anyone near Veldgouwer football. Already a starting player for Almskerk as soon as he passed the legal limit of sixteen, Dan is surprisingly strong physically and has the stamina of someone ten years older. Along with that goes a mature head, but his quick rise might even for him be difficult to grasp. Went down with Rapid two years ago but decided to stick with them despite several lucrative offers because then “I’ll have to show that I can guide a team that’s favourite every week”. Yep, that mature. Lived up to the expectation of being a future starter in the Cup of Harmony, being crucial in the round of 16 qualification. With that attitude, he has fought himself into the side and his dynamic with Decubber appears to be what spurred the unexpected final in the IC.

16 – Attacking Midfielder – 27 years old – Piershaven Club

Kris Liesmonts

The lack of depth with attacking midfielders in mind, Kris Liesmonts is not really considered to be the star of the champions, Piershaven Club, although it is a bit unfair to hold that against him. Often seeming a bit clumsy, Liesmonts has his image against him, something which isn’t helped by his capacity to be the only Club player to make a gaffe every once and a while. But once you look through that, you might see a hard-working attacking midfielder who will dive into space whenever half a metre opens up, who has a more than fine offensive pass and who scores his fair share of the goals. His tattoos with slogans in favour of far-going autonomy for the Oosthoek made him a controversial figure to call up and a dubious goal celebration created quite some commotion at the BoF. But Valkeniers stands by him and his prowess does get valued, more than by the press, by his fellow players.

20 – Attacking Midfielder – 26 years old – Westerzandse VV

Stef Looibeek

Being the number ten for the national team always has been a sore spot in the selection and the retirement of good old Guido Becu is no stranger to that problem. Stalhof is impressive but his performances look like the profile of a cycling mountain stage and Liesmonts can only play that role against specific opponents. It could be questioned whether Looibeek will be the one who manages to fill that gap in the tactical scheme of Valkeniers. It is not that Looibeek does not have his skills, after all he is the pivotal figure in the renaissance of Westerzandse, whom he lifted back from the second tier to the middle of the top division. But he’s a rather slow number ten, who needs a speedy guy in front of him and at the wings to anticipate his great passes. One can also wonder how much further growth potential still is there with him. Nonetheless, his loyalty and positive approach might have given him the edge to be the ace up the sleeve for Valkeniers.

17 – Right Midfielder – 25 years old – Racing Vlierdrecht

Roel Meganck

Valkeniers likes players who have the tactical capacity to appear at several positions and such is certainly the case with Meganck, a clever player who does not shy away from the physical work either. A chest like a home mover and a few scars make him feared amongst opponents but beneath that cover goes a gentle young man who loves jazz music and modern art – quite rare in a dressing room. Roel Meganck can be staged as a box-to-box player, less prone to make it into the box as Decubber, but with a better tackle and pass. That latter part makes him an option on the wing as well, making his way to an assisting pass not with the characteristic dribble, but with sheer power and positioning. Plays the game at full pace and that might lead to errors but he strengthens the team evidently. Many see him as the future captain of the national team due to his natural presence, but that’s still a few steps away.

9 – Striker – 28 years old – SS Skiveness (Bonesea)

Piet Masschelin

A pure targetman with a rocket in his right foot, Piet Masschelin brought home the bacon for Piershaven Club. Across the last six seasons, he accumulated a very respectable 138 goals in 225 games, a figure that has gotten him three Golden Boots and the utmost respect from the home crowd. Masschelin is not an uncontested figure, admitting himself that he turns on a switch when going on the pitch: horrible tackles, clashes with fans, fights with opponents and swearing to refs, he has been there. In daily life, he is a fine guy without that short temper who is as hard on his teammates as he is on himself – doing an extra series after training is regular for him. His ambitiousness is not always loved, but it did result in the man who’s at his age already cited to be one of the best strikers every produced in the nation. Can fight off a strong defence and will certainly get better by playing for SS Skiveness.

21 – Forward – 32 years old – Piershaven Club

Koert Schepers

Of those not wearing a jersey between one and eleven, Schepers is potentially closest to getting a spot at the kick-off some time or another. Rather on the short side himself, he is used to acting around a tall guy at Piershaven Club with Masschelin as big man. His stats are certainly fine: the last eight years he never went below a production of eleven goals per season. If you would have to categorize him, it would be easy to call him a pocket striker but he is more than raw speed and quick feet. His shot is seldom hard but always with a certain elegance and there is a guy with an eye for a teammate in times of need. As beloved and calm as he is on the field, it is hard to believe that he seemed lost for professional football at eighteen when struggling with drug addictions. Nonetheless, adding him as second striker seems to be the ace up the sleeve of Valkeniers when goals need to be made.

18 – Forward – 24 years old – Union Fiersem

Sjoerd Waegemakers

It was inevitable that one day, good old Jaco "He’s a poacher and that’s ok, he hardly works but he scores all day" Poortvliet would lose his spot on the squad and be replaced with someone who makes the same stats but based on a better combination of talent and industriousness. Coming into the ranks of Fiersem at 18, he's been a major part of the rise of Union to the top of the competition. Ideally employed in a system with two attackers, he makes the difference by chasing down his markers in defense whilst appearing in the box at the exactly right moment when a good setup is assured. It is unclear, especially with the dedication of the gaffer to the 4-2-3-1, what role Waegemakers could have but seeing how useful Schepers is at times, we see a role for him as well. Especially with the lack of a proper number ten, we could see Waegemakers play his part against some lesser alternatives.

10 – Forward – 27 years old – Marinos Thimpodopoulos (FHP)

Hannes Schaepdryver

Another remarkable figure, whose good looks and sponsor deals often make him the centre of the attention, even if he’s not scoring. But admittedly, that is not too often as Schaepdryver is an attacker who understands very well that production is what makes or breaks him. Stronger than you would expect from a player who stands at 1m81, he picks his duels carefully and wins them more often than opponents like. That timing allows him to score a series of goals but he is one who chooses his moments – critics tend to say he’s a bit picky with his chances. However, “it’s someone else’s job to supply them”, Schaepdryver once famously quoted and if he’s offered a proper shot at goal, it usually ends up against the net. Despite being a crucial player for a few years now already, previously at Pellegem and later at Grawarden, he is still missing a Golden Boot in his price cabinet. Nonetheless, he became the first Veldgouwian to win an international transfer and knocks on the door of an international breakthrough.

INFORMATION
Nickname: The Fennec Foxes
Trigram: AMN
Style Modification: +4

"Manager": The Hood (?)
Head Coach: Aslan Sato (57)
Chairman of the FAAa: Kerim Al-Tanaka (62)
Capital City: Ain Salah
Population: 14,300,000
Demonym: Asud
Geography: A dry, sandy, rocky, arid desert island in Atlantian Oceania with few cities and lots of dunes
Politics: A paranoid authoritarian dictatorship with strong economy and next to no political freedoms or civil rights
People: Suspicious of foreigners and hostile
President: Sheikh Suleyman Honda
Culture: Think Japan crossed with Arabian Peninsula/North Africa, with a sprinkling of Turkey/Central Asia. The Asud worship the sacred white palms, so, mess with any of them, or the fruit that grows on them that the Asud turn into sacred dates, and they'll kill you. Straight up, they'll kill you.
Borders: Almost entirely closed. The Sheikh had to be persuaded to open them only when it was pointed out to him that international football was next to pointless without international access. Incoming visitors may only bring 150 fans in addition to the team and sporting/diplomatic entourage, and they'll be closely guarded by heavily armed paramilitaries the entire time. Similarly, Asud fans following the team abroad will number 150, and will be guarded by paramilitaries lest they attempt to pick up any foreign culture or interact with any of you liberal dogs.

RP NOTE:
The Hood is a mysterious character, who I'd rather you didn't interact with thanks. He leaves the actual running of the squad to Sato, and only chips in from the sidelines when he has a suggestion or a plot device. He won't do press conferences, appear in well-lit areas, and you will never, ever, ever, see under his hood. This is important for the long term RP aims of this squad. You'll likely be aware of him, and you're more than welcome to talk about him, but you'll never be in a position where you can talk to him. Thanks.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:

My boys, I have to tell you. We, sadly, did not qualify for the World Cup. BUT, do you notice an improvement since our first debut? We are making a progress. A progress that gets us from a 107th to the 87th position. A progress that we climbed bit by bit That is excellent, well done!

HOWEVER, don't ever stop just yet! You have to keep moving foward and don't turn back. We know our mistakes before and we do not allow to happen again. If we keep our spirits nice and high all the time, then you will know what good is coming. Don't push it TOO HARD, though. Take it easy and gain some composure before you even enter the field. Your balance between calmness and self-motivation depends on YOU!

Come on, Boyos! GRAB YER WELSH LEEKS AND YER BLODDY LEIKS! LET'S KEEP 'EM FANS AND GIVE 'EM THE HAGERS!
(Let's do this, boys! Do your very best and your best efforts. Give the fans what they really want!

About Prusy Krolewskie Rzeczpospolita Pruska

The Principality of Prusy Krolewskie (Royal Prussia) is an absolute monarchy ruled by Prince Zygmunt VIII. We got our independence in 1466 from Prussia. Prusy Krolewskie has a majority of Polish speaking inhabitants with German, Prussian, French, Lithuanian, Russian and Filipino minorities. English is also spoken as a 3rd language by ¼ of the population, mostly in our largest towns. The Prussian people is the original people of Prusy Krolewskie with Baltic origins who were invaded by the Teutonic Order. Today the original Prussian people is kinda extinct but no they aren't extinct because they continue to live in Prusy Krolewskie! And yes I said Filipino minorities because Prusy Krolewskie has claimed a small island in the pacific with Tagalog speaking people. Just before the start of the World Cup 77 lots of protests against monarchy were held in Prusy Krolewskie. The first game against Savalen on matchday 1 was threatened by rioters. Prince Zygmunt VIII abdicated just few hours before the kickoff, the protests stopped and the game was held normally. Following the abdication of Prince Zygmunt VIII, the nation is now a republic known by the name of Rzeczpospolita Pruska (Prussian Republic) and is now ruled by Włodzimierz Krzynówek.

Prusy Krolewskie Rzeczpospolita Pruska is a modern, advanced socialist nation. Football is the national sport, followed by hockey, rugby union, american football and weightlifting. We have one international airport: Lotnisko Zygmunt VIII w Mszczonowie, located 2 km north of Mszczonow. Mszczonow is located in Wojewodztwo Warminskie kinda midway between Ozorkow and the Puck-Malbork metropolitan area, along the Wisla (Vistula) river. We also have a regional airport, Port Lotniczy Miedzyzdroje-Gorczyn, located 10 km south of Miedzyzdroje, the capital city of Wojewodztwo Miedzyzdrojskie. This airport serves the Miedzyzdroje-Ueckermünde metropolitan area. Ueckermünde is located in Wojewodztwo Wschodniomeklemburgia on the other side of the Odra (Oder) river about 30 km away from the airport. Travel inPrusy Krolewskie Rzeczpospolita Pruska is easy with a modern highway and freeway system. Trains connects the largest cities and nearby airports and you can rent modern cars, most of them are made in our german-speaking Wojewodztwa (Voivodships). Our famous car manufacturer Dolores-Wentz is a sponsor of the national team and will freely offer 2 charter buses to the visiting teams. Travel whitin the cities is also easy. Ozorkow, the Puck-Malbork metropolitan area and Miedzyzdroje all have a modern public transport system. You can also find an hotel downtown and/or close to the stadium.

History

Football is played in Prusy Krolewskie Rzeczpospolita Pruska since the beginning of the 20th century. Prusy Krolewskie's Rzeczpospolita Pruska's first international games were in the baptism of fire 59, the Reprezentacja Pruski finished 2nd in group F and lost to Santaclausisgodistan in round of 16. Prusy Krolewskie Rzeczpospolita Pruska also were in the World Cup 72 qualifications and finished fifth in group 5 with a 5-3-6 record. Prusy Krolewskie Rzeczpospolita Pruska was then missing in action until we come back for the XI olympiads and the World Cup 76 where we finished 6th in group 6 with a 2-2-8 record. Prusy Krolewskie Rzeczpospolita Pruska was invited at the Cup of Harmony and did very poorly. Then, the Reprezentacja Pruski participated in the 1st Independents Cup, for nations outside of the big three regions, but had a bad tournamant either. Rzeczpospolita Pruska tried to qualify for the World Cup 77 and failed, but still had a pretty good run, enough to crack the top 100 in the KPB rankings and recieve an invitation to the Cup of Harmony 69.

Preferred Formation:

Backup Formations: 4-1-4-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-2
Style Modifier: -1.25
Home Stadium: Kingsgarden - a 58,000 all-seater in the capital of Rozelle.
Kit Supplier: JMC
Nickname: the Patriots

Well, that qualifying cycle was a complete fucking travesty. It's time for the Patriots to lick their wounds... and a managerial change might be something of a band-aid over a gaping wound. Even so, the nostalgia trip is making everyone feel better... even if the drastic change of philosophy is something of a shock to the system.

Honours

Image
Surprisingly to most, Bardsley's tactics are more defensive in her return to the national side - just like the Patriots were before the cultural revolution that Bardsley herself started, first with Kingsgrove and then with Brenecia themselves. The spine is extremely strong - Duguid and Scrivener very solid but kind of slow, covered by world-class holding midfielder Gryphon and the box-to-box energy of Skorupska. Two attack-minded fullbacks alternate turns to charge forward while the other hands back. Carroll is a creative force on the left, Bowditch a forceful charger down the right and Balliol will be given a lot of license to hang forward and make use of his ability to strike powerful long shots. Ursula Rankin runs a lot and presses defences, but she's chiefly here to score goals.

Image
When Brenecia leads in the closing stage - or even from the outset against a stronger side - they switch to become even more defensive, relying on a very conservative central midfield to shield the defence, locking the fullbacks into defensive roles and all-but isolating Rankin up front, save Bowditch's runs and Carroll's passes.

Staff
Manager - Catherine Bardsley - Age 54
Asst. Manager - Fiona Sylver - Age 49

Catherine Bardsley revolutionised the A-League and then the Patriots with her template of attacking, pace-centric football, and now she's back. Admittedly a stint with Sameba's national team went horribly, horribly wrong - she was fired for poor performances and remained a political prisoner as hostilities ramped up between Sameba and Eura, culminating in war. She's back, now, and it feels good to see her back at the helm... but she's not quite the same, is she? Fiona Sylver's been a long-term assistant and is likely to step down to concentrate on management sooner rather than later. She's a well-liked and steadying presence in a turbulent set of circumstances.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Mathis Woodgate (Image Creed United) - Age 28 - 99 caps, 31 clean sheets
12 - GK - Marcia Bannatyne - (Image Marque) - Age 26 - 1 cap, 1 clean sheet
20 - GK - Aidan Hartigan - (Image Rosbank Town) - Age 23 - 1 cap

By this stage, Woodgate is the unquestioned first-choice goalkeeper - one of the team's best performers most days, always there to bail out a sometimes shaky defence. He's a legitimately world-class shot-stopper, and a very capable goalkeeper in all regards. The alternatives are far, far less inspiring. Hartigan's got a bright future but is prone to errors and Bannatyne's decent, but neither's remotely close to Woodgate. A-League goalkeepers tend to be on the experienced side, and it's causing concern.

Defenders
2 - RB - Czeslawa Szukala (Image Phalanx AF) - Age 25 - 58 caps, 2 goals
3 - LB - Ophelia Lovelock (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 26 - 63 caps, 7 goals
5 - CB - Anaximander Scrivener (Image Brigham) - Age 30 - 85 caps, 5 goals
6 - CB/DM - Brandon Duguid (Image North Laithland) - Age 31 - 96 caps, 2 goals
17 - RB - Tara Hassett (Image Northern Union) - Age 24 - 11 caps, 1 goal
18 - R/CB - Peter Uffington (Image Eastal Lunar) - Age 25 - 22 caps, 1 goal
19 - LB - Saoirse Hourihane (Image North Hall) - Age 25 - 20 caps
22 - CB - Rostyn Bradden (Image Lajuno) - Age 29 - 71 caps, 5 goals

Eura-based central defenders Bradden and Scrivener make for an extremely physical wall that's difficult to punch through. Uffington is a proven talent by now - if required he serves as auxiliary rightback. The measured Brandon Duguid is a classy operator, out of favour under Cullen but his aura of calm and general versatility have paved the way for his return to the fold under Bardsley - equally comfortable as a ball-playing defender or a midfield destroyer. The team relies on dynamic attacking fullbacks Szukala and Lovelock for much of its attacking width - emerging talents Hourihane and Hassett are not to be taken likely, either, though they are more defensive in mindset.

Midfielders
4 - HM - Catherine Gryphon (Image Northern Union, c) - Age 28 - 89 caps, 1 goal
7 - RAM - Squire Trevelyan (Image FC Jansberg) - Age 27 - 81 caps, 28 goals
8 - CM - Aleksandra Skorupska (Image Trothwands Evolution) - Age 26 - 61 caps, 18 goals
10 - LAM - Roisin Carroll (Image CSKA Quebec) - Age 27 - 90 caps, 18 goals
11 - AM - Sander Balliol (Image Tanrisal) - Age 25 - 28 caps, 8 goals
13 - LAM - Sienna Fallon (Image North Hall) - Age 27 - 21 caps, 5 goals
16 - CM/AM - Elsie Drover (Image Rozelle) - Age 24 - 44 caps, 10 goals
21 - HM - Matt Ruffan (Image Kingsgrove) - Age 24 - 15 caps
23 - RAM - Ronan Bowditch (Image Real Azuris) - Age 30 - 41 caps, 12 goals

Skorupska and Gryphon represent the spine of the team, and it doesn't get much more solid than them. Gryphon is a legitimately world-class player, the best in her position in the world according to a third-party in Bonesea, exceptionally intelligent, a great and clean passer, an inspirational leader and a set piece specialist. Skorupska? She mostly just runs - extremely hard, extremely cleverly and
Elsie Drover backs Skorupska and Balliol up - a versatile technician of a midfielder with a nice patchwork of skills, international-quality at everything and still young at 24. Ruffan's a straightforward defensive midfielder, muscular and uncomplicated.

Given a free, floating role, it is the job of Alexsandr van Sorenson Balliol (who understandably goes by Sander) to cause trouble in the hole. On either side, Roisin Carroll is something of a drifting playmaker, with Lovelock providing the pure width, while Ronan Bowditch is a bullish stallion of a winger who's played a key part in Real Azuris' remarkable form over the past few years. Other options include the orthodox but effective Fallon and the mystery of Squire Trevelyan, who has been dismal these past two years but remains the most expensive Brenecian in history and still has plenty of career left to pull himself back on track.

Forwards
9 - ST - Ursula Rankin (Image Tanrisal) - Age 30 - 96 caps, 57 goals
14 - ST - Fionn Lynch (Image SC Rinaldi) - Age 26 - 21 caps, 10 goals
15 - ST/RAM - Karena Foran (Image Hellinic-Rouge) - Age 27 - 34 caps, 13 goals

Ursula Rankin, formerly of FC Endeavour back when that was a name to be feared, is the unquestioned starter up front for the Patriots, though she might be more isolated these days. Losing a little stamina with age, she's still a quick sprinter in bursts, with a low, sturdy centre of gravity, and the determination and scrappiness to run through brick walls in search of goals. A liability in the air, but she excels at every other aspect of her position - her goalscoring record for club and country speaks for itself. Lynch isn't the most physical of strikers, but he's quick and reasonably clinical, and that's all you really need. Karena Foran's a quick and muscular forward who's enjoyed significant success for the national team as an impact substitute, but her utility as a winger will go to waste in this new paradigm.
Puppet of Nephara.

PLAYSTYLE
The Savojar team plays a defensive game, relying on its size, strength and speed to score. It tries to trap the opponent and counters quickly. Set balls are a strength of the team, as are games against quick, technical opponents. Weaknesses of the team are making the game and getting through an organised defense. The team got a bit more offensive after a very disappointing BoF and since then, they seem to have less trouble of getting the job done in offense. They did replace a few players and changed from a 4-4-2 to a more defensive 4-4-1-1. On counter attacks, the wingers tend to pull towards the corner of the box, while the wingbacks try to join the attack and deliver crosses to Karjanen in the middle.

Tumbran National Football Team
The Blue Lions

Image

After a heartbreaking World Cup 77 campaign, the Blue Lions will enter the Cup of Harmony with a brave smile on their faces, with the news that several more members of the team are contemplating retirement from international football either after this competition or the Campionato. The first team that strode out onto the field at the Baptism of Fire 57 is nearly gone - but their legacies live on.

Robin Stoff is incensed about the qualifying steal. That is all he has to say on the matter. If not for a certain red-and-yellow nation returning from the grave on the second-to-last matchday, they would be flying off to San Jose Guayabal or the RKQ and not Cosumar and Ethane. In line with Tumbran traditions, however, he has kept a stiff upper lip and has refused to say much.

All-Time Record as of WC LXXVII

Jordan Fletcher: 12-8-17
Colin Guthries: 0-3-3

Staff

Manager: Robin Stoff (58 y/o, TMB)

Robin Stoff is the manager of the Tumbran team - something which has proven to be more of a curse than a blessing. In his fourteen matches in charge, he has failed to win any, at most holding teams to a draw. He hopes that will change at this tournament, with Tumbra being in a relatively easy group. He has repeatedly stated that he is in for the long run - a sentiment that the TFA shares, despite them dismissing him from his job as the U-21 manager following Tumbra's successful third-placed finish in the Di Bradini Cup.

Assistant Manager: Mark Noble (47 y/o, TMB)

Noble was recently appointed to the job by Stoff - he will be taking care of tactics and ingame advice, as well as being the defensive coach. Previously manager of West Langham, Noble is more offensive-based than Stoff - however, he has adapted his tactics to Stoff's somewhat. Will they work well together? Or will their relationship crumble?

Goalkeeping Coach: Aiden Pearce (52 y/o, TMB)

Defensive Coach: Jon Seah (43 y/o, TMB)

Attacking Coach: Martin Lewis (58 y/o, TMB)

Fitness Coach: Samantha Lewington (39 y/o, TMB)

Scout: Harry Kew (64 y/o, TMB)

Physio: Coraline Lewis (33 y/o, TMB)

Players

Formation: 4-2-3-1

With several important players retiring, announcing their retirement from international football or football altogether, Robin Stoff has chosen to revamp the team fully. The result is a new-look team that has players from more top-tier teams, although there still are some from lower-tier ones.

1 Ryan Hughes (Thurmond City)

Age: 31
Height: 190 cm
Weight: 86 kg

Goalkeeper Hughes was, is and will be the custodian of the goal for this team. A magnificent ability to stop shots which are often considered unsaveable, Hughes is a threat to look out for. However, he cannot stop set-pieces for toffee, and generally looks to the defenders to help him in this task.

12 Raymond Perry (Goldlion Arsenal)

Age: 30
Height: 183 cm
Weight: 73 kg

Perry, the man with cat-like reflexes, finds himself once again in the team. He'll be treating this as possibly an extended vacation, unless something happens to Hughes. He is a middle-of-the-road keeper, and is generally considered to be around decent for a team of Tumbra's standing.

23 Steven Haines (Waterford City)

Age: 33
Height: 184 cm
Weight: 79 kg

Haines made it into the team with the retirement of Larry Peterson, who retired aged 34. Although unlikely to play any major role in this tournament, but he is always ready to spring into action when needed. More of a technical player than a showman, he has very good control of his area.

2 Louis Paterson (Chalk Wharf)

Positions: LB, CB
Age: 28
Height: 179 cm
Weight: 81 kg

3 Brandon Brooks (Fayborough United) - Captain

Positions: CB, CDM, CM
Age: 31
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 85 kg

Brandon Brooks is the definition of a safe pair of hands. His command of the area is bar none, and is often called the best defender in Tumbra. While not the fastest, Brooks does fit in with Stoff's new philosophy of stopping attackers in defence - and works it out to a tee.

With Pandon's retirement from international football, Brooks becomes the Captain. Will he do well?

4 Steve Nelson (Thurmond United)

Positions: CB, RB, CDM
Age: 29
Height: 172 cm
Weight: 69 kg

5 Cecil Reyes (Hoxford United)

Positions: RB, CB, SW
Age: 26
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 72 kg

Reyes is part of a new brand of football that Robin Stoff is trying to bring in - physically imposing defenders that can scare the living daylights out of opposing strikers. Standing at just below six feet, Reyes is extremely athletic and will chase after every single ball.

13 Ian Keum (Chalk Wharf)

Positions: CB, LB, RB
Age: 24
Height: 174 cm
Weight: 66kg

14 Alex Tucker (Metz FC)

Positions: LB, CB, RB
Age: 28
Height: 168 cm
Weight: 54 kg

Alex Tucker is the shortest and lightest member of the team, but that does not mean everything in the world of football. Tucker is fast, agile and jumps like a spring - managing to jump up to 200 cm - taller than most people are. This also means that he has been responsible for some fantastic last-ditch goal-line saves, using his incredible speed to catch up to forwards.

15 Roger Baker (Thurmond City)

Positions: CB, RB
Age: 29
Height: 182 cm
Weight: 71 kg

6 Henry Butler (Connaught FC) - Vice Captain

Positions: CDM, CM, LM
Age: 28
Height: 171 cm
Weight: 63 kg

Butler quietly and efficiently established himself as the top CDM in Tumbra, with his recent showing at the Cup of Harmony speaking volumes about his quality. Extremely well-versed in the defensive arts of football, Butler will run rings around the opponent, showing them how stubborn the Tumbran defence can be at times.

7 John Rhys-Stevens (Merton FC)

Positions: CDM, CB
Age: 23
Height: 175 cm
Weight: 70 kg

Rhys-Stevens put in a quiet yet determined campaign during the Cup of Harmony and the Eagle's Cup, proving once again that the mature-beyond-his-age midfielder is ready for the full rigour of international football. His most unforgettable moment may have happened in Valanora, but that was what brought him into the spotlight for the first time...

8 Almar Hussein (Connaught FC)

Positions: LW, CM, CAM
Age: 20
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 56 kg

Another star from the Di Bradini Cup campaign, Hussein's young age raises the question of whether he is too young to take part in international football. Some say that he is an experiment to see whether Oliver Ganson can be rushed into service as the replacement for Henry Pandon, but we never know with Robin Stoff. An aerial master, his linkup plays are excellent and more often than not he will score headed goals out of nowhere. He will be relishing this chance to re-link with Stoff, the ex-U21 manager.

9 Robert Alexander (Thurmond United)

Age: 30
Positions: CAM, LM, RM
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 74 kg

Alexander rose to the occasion exceptionally well when Henry Pandon was taken off injured, being the star of the show in the Eagle's Cup, along with Henry Butler. He has that ability to see goalscoring opportunities where others do not - this leads to him being played as a raumdeuter, or space invader.

10 Albert Foster (Goldlion Arsenal)

Age: 28
Positions: RW, LW, CF
Height: 169 cm
Weight: 62 kg

Foster is fast, and he knows it. At twenty-six years of age, Foster relies on pure speed and skill to get past and befuddle his poor opponents, usually leaving them in the dust with his magnificent speed. He often sets up counterattacks on the wing, which makes him a prime target for defenders.

16 William Coleman (Thurmond United)

Age: 31
Positions: CDM, CM
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 79 kg

17 Arnold Lowe (Fayborough United)

Age: 28
Positions: RM, CM
Height: 172 cm
Weight: 71 kg

18 Kevin Monaghan (Waterford City)

Age: 23
Positions: CDM, CM, CB
Height: 169 cm
Weight: 62 kg

Stoff's latest strategy seems to be putting quick, young people into the team to ensure the ball gets up the field, fast. Monaghan is known for his stopping skills, but is a little short.

19 Justin Bielsen (Wildrspring Wanderers)

Age: 26
Positions: RM, LM
Height: 179 cm
Weight: 74 kg

20 Ervin Geeson (Sondon AFC)

Age: 32
Positions: CDM, CB
Height: 181 cm
Weight: 77 kg

11 John Krajewski (Humboldt Albion)

Age: 23
Positions: ST, LW, LM
Height: 181 cm
Weight: 81 kg

Krajewski takes on the mantle of striker for this world cup cycle, in a team strangely bereft of Henry Pandon's guidance. He plays very differently from Pandon though,
something attributed to his Quebecois ancestry.

21 Oliver Ganson (Rosenfeldplatz FC, Abanhfleft)

Age: 19
Positions: ST
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 54 kg

Here he is. The sporting legend. This is his time to shine. What have three years in Abanhfleft done to the lad from Ilcaster? Only time will tell.

22 Peter Jones (West Langham)

Age: 26
Positions: ST, CAM
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 64 kg

Jones is the third striker in Tumbra's striking options - a stalwart choice if there ever was one. While there was a chance for him to ascend to the number 21 jersey, Jones chose to remain with 22, as it was, to him, the more iconic choice. The days of him scoring at will in the Di Bradini Cup are long gone, but Jones has since evolved into a quiet, efficient striker with a deadly right foot.

The Stadia

Wembley National Stadium, Goldlion City - 90,000

Image

The National Stadium is certainly the largest dedicated football stadium in Tumbra - and that is saying a lot. Located in the north of Goldlion City, traffic from there and the airport is usually atrocious, but the Tube does have a dedicated system servicing the station on matchdays. This stadium will host the games against [TBA], with 10,000 seats being allocated to away fans.

City of Thurmond Stadium, Thurmond - 53,000

Image

Home to Thurmond City FC, this stadium, while not the largest stadium in Thurmond (New Trafford takes that title), is certainly the more modern one. Located just a hop, a skip and a jump away from the city centre, and five kilometres away from the airport (with a direct train service to boot). This stadium will host the games against [TBA], with 7,500 seats being allocated to away fans.

Thefield Stadium, Connaught - 44,742

Image

Thefield Stadium (pronounced Theh-feld) is located in Connaught, fifty-six kilometres from Thurmond, and is home to Connaught FC - some of the league's most dedicated supporters. While not the newest stadium, Tumbra fans are known to show a great atmosphere while there. Easily reachable by train, plane or car. This stadium will host the games against [TBA] with 5,000 seats being allocated to away fans.

About Tumbra

A map of Tumbra can be found here.

The Royal Federal Republic of Tumbra is a nation of over 67 million people is an extremely diverse nation, welcoming people from all around the world to its shores. Tumbra has often been called an "immigrant nation", simply because it has so many cultures and values that the traditional Tumbran identity has been moulded and kneaded to fit the new Tumbran demographic. That being said, however, 87.1% of the population is still white - but the proportion of nonwhite people is significantly higher in metropolitan areas.

A great Wikipedia article on the nation can be found here.

Tumbra: Weather

Tumbra has a temperate climate, with plentiful rainfall all year round. The temperature varies with the seasons seldom dropping below −11 °C (12 °F) or rising above 35 °C (95 °F). The prevailing wind is from the south-west and bears frequent spells of mild and wet weather from the Sarian Sea, although the eastern parts are mostly sheltered from this wind since the majority of the rain falls over the western regions the eastern parts are therefore the driest. Sarianese currents, warmed by the Paradystopian Cheese Desert, bring mild winters; especially in the west where winters are wet and even more so over high ground. Summers are warmest in the south-east of Tumbra, being closest to the Esportivan Federal Republic mainland, and coolest in the north. Heavy snowfall can occur in winter and early spring on high ground, and occasionally settles to great depth away from the hills.

Some packing advice that the Foreign Office has for travellers is to pack warm clothes. Always, always consult the Met Office, the Environment Agency or the Lackish Environment Protection Agency for additional information and advice on the weather.

If tourists decide to go on hikes, here are some precautions to take.

- never practice these activities alone;
- always hire an experienced guide from a reputable company;
- buy travel insurance that covers helicopter rescue and medical evacuation;
- ensure that your physical condition is good enough to meet the challenges of your activity;
- advise a family member or friend of your itinerary, including when you expect to be back to camp;
- know the symptoms of acute altitude sickness, which can be fatal;
- sign up with your embassy's location service; and,
- obtain detailed information on trekking routes or ski slopes before setting out and do not venture away from marked trails or slopes.

Tumbra: Religion

While previously an extremely devout nation, Tumbra has seen a gradually increasing number of people becoming non-religious ever following 1945. The two main religions present in the nation include Humanism and Protestantism, with 36% and 22% of the population identifying themselves as that. 21% of people identified as non-religious, while the remainder were made up of minor religions.

That being said, however, tourists should not attempt to incite violence against any creed or faith - such an incident will result in immediate deportation to the tourist's home country and a ban on entering the country for five years minimum.

Tumbra: Travel

Travelling to Tumbra is not very difficult. All one needs to do is to obtain a visa before setting off on one's trip to Tumbra, which will be approved 95% of the time - unless there is a very blatant security concern, after which the tourist will be detained and brought in for questioning. International flights land at many airports throughout Tumbra, though the main airport served is the Goldlion City International Airport, in the south-west of Goldlion.

Within Tumbra itself, however, it is more than recommended that tourists use public transport when commuting in Tumbra. Tumbra has an extensive rail network, and tourists are advised to use those instead, as the roads are excellent but are often narrow and congested, especially in urban areas.

Traffic drives on the left. Use caution when entering a traffic circle (roundabout). Pedestrians should use caution when crossing streets and be mindful that traffic is usually coming from the opposite direction than what they may be used to.

If using taxis, only use officially marked ones - however, carsharing applications like Uber are allowed in the country.

Tumbra: Language

The lingua franca and the national language is English - most Tumbrans often do not understand much else. The outlying Territories - Lackland, Sofan and Artumo - have their own dialects and languages which are recognised by the constituent countries, but not by the official Tumbran government, which uses English for all official purposes.

Tumbra: Food

Tumbran cuisine is the specific set of cooking traditions and practices associated with Tumbra. Tumbran cuisine has been described as "unfussy dishes made with quality local ingredients, matched with simple sauces to accentuate flavour, rather than disguise it." However, Tumbran cuisine has absorbed the cultural influence of those who have settled here, producing many hybrid dishes, such as chicken tikka masala - the national dish of Tumbra.

Tumbran cuisine has traditionally been limited in its international recognition to the full breakfast, fish and chips, and the Christmas dinner. Other Tumbran dishes include the Sunday roast, steak and kidney pie, shepherd's pie, and bangers and mash. Tumbran cuisine has many regional varieties within the broader categories of Nicodian, Lacklandian and Artumoan cuisine. Each has developed its own regional or local dishes, many of which are geographically indicated foods such as Cornish pasties, the Pilkshire pudding, Cumberland Sausage, Arbroath Smokie, and Artumo cakes.

Tumbra: Sports

Tumbra's national sport is football, though rugby union and cricket are often in with a shout. Tumbran supporters are usually very rowdy, sometimes crossing over into hooliganism - something which the authorities have absolutely zero tolerance for, local or otherwise.

It is recommended not to insult football supporters who are drunk, incapitated, or worse. Doing so may spark a riot, which has happened in the past.

The use of fire-related items (like flares) are strictly prohibited inside stadiums. If discovered, the offender will recieve a fine and have the offending item confiscated. Hooliganism is absolutely not tolerated and will be dealt with strictly.[/spoiler]

Postby Brigantii » Thu Mar 02, 2017 11:42 am

Mini prologue:

And with that Brigantii's hopes of qualifying for the World Cup were dashed. The 2-2 draw wasn't enough and, from a commanding position, the team had thrown it away. They were 2nd in the group, with a 2-1 lead over Ancharmunn with 5 minutes to go.

Despite the sudden upheaval, the new coach being installed at the last minute and Trent Harrell, Jamie Gallagher, Harry Melville and Darrel Fry refusing to play for the team, they were in a strong position. The fans that had made their way were buzzing and the dream of tackling the best teams in the multiverse in their debut World Cup was edging closer to reality. Until the 87th minute, when the hosts found an equalizer and those dreams were crushed.

Perhaps it was some sort of cosmic karmic retribution.

The F.A. however decided that those players who had refused to play were now blacklisted, they wouldn't be joining up with the team for the foreseeable future and their installation of a new manager would ensure that only players that they thought should represent Brigantii, would represent Brigantii.

Cup of Harmony 69 Squad

Image

“Coach”: Neal Bagley. Bagley has been handpicked by the Brigantii F.A. to oversee the day to day running of the team in conjuction with the F.A.'s vision of the squad, in particular with how he interacts with the media and the players chosen to represent the nation. Bagley has no managerial experience, but has been trained at the Brigantii “excellence training centre” in Eborum. A number of the players have refused to play for Bagley following the sacking of Norman Atkins and the insistence that the team will not be playing against non-human teams when the next World Cup qualifying campaign begins while others have simply decided to “keep their head down” and get on with it.

Starting XI

GKP. Ray Hurst. Rookscroft City. Back in the #1 shirt after Harrell declined to play for the team. He's a safe pair of hands and will be relied upon at the back.

RB. Brooks Hamilton. Hogghampton. Following the relegation of Belle-Isle on Sea, the right back transferred to Hogghampton where he can be deployed as a marauding wingback, joining in the attack.

CB. Terence Shelby. Madonnachurch. The centreback has improved over recent years to the point where he's now in the national team and making a name for himself in the League.

CB. Leroy Emmet. Brierthorne. Initially debuting as an ungainly spaghetti man, he's bulked up and now has some muscle, may be on the way to a bigger club.

LB. Byron Samuels. Albertpool. The wingback has just gotten better and better, even finding his scoring boots from left back and has made several appearances for his club as a left winger.

RM. Rowan Newell. Ridgemont Town. After transfering to Belle-Isle on Sea, the pacy winger returned to Ridgemont following their promotion from League 1. He's a regular feature in the squad and would be guaranteed a starting spot if the team played a 4-4-2

CM. Jarred Stevenson. Albertpool. The midfielder is the captain and the engine in the Brigantii midfield. He is also the team's designated penalty taker.

CM. Aaron Ramsbottom. Marketnewton. A flashy player who adds a little excitement every time he plays, but plagued by personal problems.

LM. Stephen McNamara. Real Minanda. The winger was part of a multi-million pound deal that saw him move to Cusco. Fast, agile and one of the better dead ball specialists in the team.

CF. Carl Andrews. Brierthorne. The tall striker was left out of the squad for the qualfication campaign but returns with a number of attackers falling out of favour with the F.A to slot into Bagley's 4-4-2 formation.

CF. Michael Irwin. Real Minanda. The diminutive forward has exceptional pace and a superb goals to games ratio that has seen him move to the Cusco capital. He finished qualifying as Brigantii's top scorer and will hopefully carry this forward.

Subs

GKP. Paul Robertson. Torkingham Wanderers. The goalie is a solid stopper and a fine stand in should Hurst need replacing.

RB. David Rose. Landfell. The wingback fell off the international radar with a nondescript performance for Landfell, but with a sudden lack of Brigantii wingbacks in the top flight, a nondescript performance is better than one that was terrible.

CB. Brodie Bardsley. Rookscroft United. The young defender transfered from Moorledge Town and, despite his youth is already a sound defender, although he does tend to pick up cards.

CM. Jimmy Boon. Almondvale. Former Di Bradini Cup player and Premier League regular with Almondvale, Boon is a good midfielder, with experience of playing in the Wyrmgore Champion's League.

WG. Newt Courtney. Rookscroft City. The winger is still developing, but has managed to carve out a place for himself in a team full of foreign imports.

CF. Zack Wilbraham. Rookscroft United. Dropped from the starting line-up as Bagley has been informed to play a 4-4-2, but able to come off the bench to make an impact.

Notes

Since the last World Cup, 28 years have passed in Saintland and the nation is now almost unrecognizable to those who remember the old Saintland. At the 3rd West Sanctii elections, Feministvs Sanctvsterra finally won enough combined seats to form a majority government. Meanwhile, King Petrus XX became increasingly frustrated by his inability to produce a male heir even as Queen Veronica grew more and more powerful. Gradually, West Saintland drifted more and more toward a matriarchal state and the Church of Saintland's theology shifted accordingly, especially after the appointment of Matriarch Innocentia I as the leader of the Church. During these years, the island of Saintland lost contact with the outside world where, unbeknownst to them, the 64th Baptism of Fire was happening at a rate of 1 matchday per every 4 years of Sanctii time. An invisible wall blocked both Saintlands from the world and, although neither recognized the legitimacy of the other, neither half believed itself capable of winning a war, even as they drifted further and further apart.

As West Sanctii society changed, all of the nation's athletic training resources were dedicated toward the development of female athletes. When Saintland was finally able to regain contact with the rest of the multiverse, they were surprised to discover that they were still entered in the 77th World Cup. Parliament elected to send an entirely female team comprised of the top stars of the West Sanctii domestic league. The new team was led by Princess Amanda, the 6th of the king's dozen daughters, and a star soccer player who reminded many older fans, on the pitch at least, of her uncle. The new West Sanctii team, to a woman, are known for their technical skill and their quickness. This is a very fast, very athletic team that likes playing a fast-paced, but not reckless, style of soccer. Notable players include the twin daughters of Josephus Flaccus, the daughter of former prime ministers Andreas Tuccius and Censorina Polus and the daughter of former star Andreas Fadius. On the bench is Procula Didius, the daughter of former gridiron star Georgius Didius.

THE ROZELLE OBSERVER
AS IT HAPPENED: Catherine Bardsley officially announced for second stint as Patriots manager
Tara Ousted

5.45pm
All the national papers (and a few regional and foreign ones) have been invited here for the unveiling of the Brenecia manager. By this point it is an open secret that it will be the dark horse, Catherine Bardsley, but we aren't officially meant to know this, and it could hypothetically be someone else should talks have broken down.

The other likely alternatives would seem to be Lotus Park manager Conrad Keane, who has worked with the national team before, Gabrielle Hourihane of Kingsgrove and the up-and-coming Audioslavian manager of Rozelle United, Cillian Najdorf. The implications of philosophy would be drastically different - Keane stresses defence and discipline, Hourihane follows the Bardsley/Bale/Cullen attacking/high-pressing philosophy while Najdorf, like Granger (whose stint in charge of the national team was an utter disaster) takes a balanced, counter-attacking approach.

5.52pm
Raven Cullen's firing was sad, but had a trace of inevitability to it. She'd had a short flash of success but it had just become apparent that whatever she'd done to short-term galvanise the Golden Generation just wasn't working anymore. Surprisingly, she's found a job with the Anglatian national team and will be present at the World Cup. If she takes one more team there she will match Gethin Ramsey's existing record of three (Nephara, the Licentian Isles and Cosumar).

5.57pm
For posterity, Cullen's record;
Records of all Brenecian Managers in the Modern Era
Blake Lawless: P 23, W 9, D 4, L 10, GF 31, GA 35, GD -4, WP 39% - resigned after WCQ65
Clint Hemingway: P 21, W 6, D 4, L 11, GF 33, GA 45, GD -12, WP 29% - sacked in CoH58
Vance Sterling: P 3, W 1, D 0, L 2, GF 6, GA 7, GD -1, WP 33% - interim manager
Jon Slatesaver: P 60, W 24, D 18, L 18, GF 71, GA 62, GD 9, WP 40% - sacked after CE10
Catherine Bardsley: P 84, W 48, D 19, L 17, GF 188, GA 109, GD 79, WP 57% - released after CE13
Danielle Granger: P 21, W 8, D 6, L 7, GF 30, GA 32, GD -2, WP 38% - sacked after CoH14
Sasha Bale: P 75, W 49, D 9, L 17, GF 161, GA 95, GD 66, WP 65% - sacked mid-WCQ75
Raven Cullen: P 63, W 39, D 13, L 11, GF 138, GA 74, GD 64, WP 62% - sacked after WCQ77

Statistically Brenecia's second-most successful manager, though it has to be said that despite relatively poor records both Slatesaver and Bardsley made a huge impact raising Brenecia's status on the world stage. Bale, despite the best record across the second-longest stretch of time, never managed to qualify for a World Cup. Bale and Cullen have won Brenecia's only silverware, a Campionato Esportiva apiece.

6.01pm
Yep, it's Bardsley. She's arriving now with the hulking Chairman of the BFA, Bruce Morant, assistant manager Fiona Sylver - both former internationals - and captain Catherine Gryphon, who has been prominently linked with 1830 Cathair and AFC Treason since the Uniongate scandal broke.

6.04pm
Morant with a very brisk and forceful speech about . No room for sentimentality in sport, he sacked Bale because she could no longer do the job, sacked Cullen because she could no longer do the job and will not hesitate to sack Bardsley if she fails as well. But he is confident after extensive talks that Bardsley has what it takes to rejuvenate the national team. He is conscious that no Brenecian manager has made it to a triple-digit figure of matches in charge yet, he does not see the problem with this as 'managers have a use-by date'.

6.06pm
Morant confirms that Najdorf and Keane were interviewed, refused to comment on Hourihane and outright laughed when Althea Reader, a former perennial favourite for the hot seat now disgraced by Uniongate, was brought up. Now he sits.

6.07pm
Bardsley rises - she is pleased and honoured to be here again and looks forward to representing the national team on the world stage.

6.10pm
Bardsley talks philosophy. Yes, Brenecia has the players, but they aren't as young as they once were. Surprisingly quick to talk about the need to instill a tight, disciplined defensive unit in the national team. Talked a lot about structure. "Certain players will need to really lift their game and lead by example. Maybe complacency has set in a bit." Hard to believe she's not pointing the finger at Trevelyan, who endured a horror qualifying run.

6.11pm
"We might not have the quality rising through, but I can't snap my fingers and make it happen. The A-League needs to develop strong young talent again [...] I will use the players I have."

6.13pm
Yes, Brenecia can win the Cup of Harmony - indeed they are favourites for a reason. She anticipates using a similar selection of 23 to Cullen's. The depth is 'not what it should be.' Acknowledgement that key players are aging.

6.14pm
This is just a little surreal. This isn't Bardsley's game.

6.16pm
Gryphon stands. "We're all very much behind this appointment." Claim to regret Cullen's departure, very firm denial that she had lost the dressing room. "The structure needs a look."

6.17pm
Gryphon asked if she feels ashamed for failing to qualify. "Of course I do."

6.22pm
Sylver has been talking for the past few minutes but largely parroting Bardsley's thoughts. Youth development needs a 'serious look.' Suggestion that it has been putting the cart before the horse, that 'results do matter'.

6.23pm
It's put to Sylver that the Sunrise Islands, renowned for winning attractively, have won the two most recent World Cups - both times unravelling notoriously results-first Nepharim in the process. Sylver smiles. "There's a lot more Islanders than there are Brenecians."

6.25pm
We're closing it down now, it's open to general questioning.

6.26pm
Bardsley refuses to talk about her experience in Sameban captivity.

6.27pm
Golden Generation referred to as 'perfect storm' by Sylver; Gryphon just says "I don't like that term." When asked if this is the most talented group the Patriots will ever see, Sylver concedes it's possible but Gryphon denies it. "There's a lot of future ahead of us."

6.28pm
No further questions.

6.31pm
So, in conclusion;

+ Bardsley confirmed, Najdorf and Keane also spoken to
+ Brenecian youth development in focus
+ A-League blamed for stalling supply line of talent
+ Trevelyan vaguely inferred to be out of favour
+ Bardsley will focus on defence and grinding out results, at least for now
+ Core likely remains the same as Cullen's
+ Bardsley not untouchable by any means by BFA

All in all, a simple press conference that covered all the basics and revealed a few telling insights into the BFA's and Bardsley's thought processes. All in all, though, this could be the shot in the arm the Patriots need.

“Have you read this? Cosumar still has dragons.”

“Don't be daft, it's not 'olden days'!”

“It's true. And you know we used to have dragons, right?”

“Shut up. They're from fairy tales. We din't 'ave dragons.”

“We did. Saint Hector drove them all out of Brigantii, became king and converted everyone to Christianity.”

“Bollocks.”

“I'm well excited, I can't wait to see a proper dragon.”

“They're not real.”

Neal Bagley was a superb yes man. Placed in charge of the Brigantii national football team for his unwavering willingness to kowtow to authority, he managed to keep his sense of wonder hidden from his new odious bosses. Neal, on a personal level had no issue with Brigantii playing against succubi, ursine creatures, non-professionals, women, or whomever the opposition chose to represent them, but knew the F.A. were staunchly against it and wanted to see only human men, professionally regulated, compete against one another. He went along with it for a comfortable contract and when he'd been asked to do the job didn't possess the stones to say no.

Discovering they were headed to Cosumar rather than Ethane, the Stags coach had begun boning up on the host Fiefdom, reading a fact book and learning about the country in the northeast region of Atlantian Oceania.

“They've got high speed travel between cities called the TransCosumar Hyperloop, it can get up to 800mph” he excitedly called across to his assistant Charlie. Charlie was less thrilled. Dragons and fast trains, what's so good about that he thought. Dragons are surely dangerous and should be kept in zoos rather than out on a reserve.

Charlie's attitude towards the “unusual” is what had gotten him the job as assistant, fitting the message the F.A. had wanted to send. It's was only his lack of charisma and argumentative nature that stopped him being the coach of the Stags, if he could present a better front to the media, he'd now be in charge.

“The Cosumarite Azure Dragons, which grow up to thirty feet in length, are ancient and solitary beasts. They are semi-intelligent and do not prey upon humans naturally, but can still be unpredictable and dangerous if encountered.”* Neal read aloud to Charlie from the fact book.

“Dangerous and unpredictable” repeated Charlie. “So, we're steering clear of them then?”

“I dunno, I think a trip to the reserve would be a good bonding experience for the team, see the dragons in their natural habitat, go and enjoy the scenery and be out in nature.”

“Oh yeah, I'm sure the players would love that, they're not all obsessed with that April Tech game thinggy. Have you looked at any of the teams we're playing or have you been too busy planning excursions?”

The group Brigantii would be facing, included Turori, Tomikosan and Juvencus. The Stags had only just played Tomikosan in the qualifiers, winning both fixtures – a 3-2 win at home and a 2-0 away victory, but that didn't guarantee victory in Cosumar. Turori, ranked 28th in the World had finished 3rd in their qualifying group and had missed out on either goal difference or head to head record with Eastfield Lodge, nobody on the Brigantii side had bothered to read the tie breakers. While Juvencus were a relatively new side, eliminated in the round of sixteen in the most recent Baptism of Fire, they were quick and capable and wouldn't be a pushover.

To consider the squad unmotivated ahead of the opener against Tinhampton would be an unfair assessment, especially when considering that a clash with the formation from the third pot formed an instant make-or-break confrontation. The players had assembled a week and a half in advance and the physical preparation had been excellent. The collection of dvd’s from Ronny Allaerts with games from the Miners was unrivalled and he hadn’t used them as coasters or at least, not all of them. And manager Valkeniers had done everything that needed to be done to bring the toughest eleven to the kick-off.

And still. Last time around, all had been thrilled to showcase themselves on an international stage which might not have the same glamour of the World Cup, but contained an exciting set of experienced contenders and up-and-comers. Said sentiment had waned quickly as Veldgouwen stood at the start of the Cup of Harmony 69. Such had nothing to do with the field presented, as unusual as a line-up of twenty-eight formation might seem but all with the heart-breaking elimination from the World Cup proper by an unexpected draw on the field of Hirvania.

None of the players felt themselves too good for the Cup, although quite a few had set their hopes on an international adventure and no tournament offered an insight for the managers of the money leagues as the World Cup. It was rather the knowledge that they had been given a sight, a touch of tickets for Disneyworld, had driven all the way there only to be refused entrance at the gates before being dropped off at the amusement park of McBonalds. Last time around, they had had an amazing time at McBonalds, that was for sure, but right now all the bright colours had lost their hue.

No man could sense that, usually kept under the skin, discomfort of the situation as Johan Valkeniers. Things would have been easier if there was an identifiable root cause for the mess they had dragged themselves in over at Hirvania, but there simply wasn’t one. No one lost his marbles and ran into a red card, no one missed a penalty or failed to score from two yards out. They had gone up that pitch together and gone down as one as well, frozen collectively by the pressure mounted. By the time the thaw had set in, they were left behind with two points short on Spaam, an opponent that graciously deserved to qualify. Only too bad they did it at Veldgouwen’s cost.

With that knowledge, Valkeniers felt little need to raise the expectations. Cloud nine, so carefully constructed across the Independents Cup and the qualifiers, had been pushed from underneath everyone and an additional blow was the last thing they could use. It was a time for experiment, for build-up, so players such as Van Boxelaere, Mortelmans, Liesmonts and Scheepers were given the kick-off for Veldgouwen. Just a preparation, Valkeniers had muttered but even his players knew how much it hurt him to say such a thing about an official tournament. There is no such thing as just a preparation, said everything in his tone and voice.

Abristan National Football Roster
for the 69th Cup of Harmony

Image

Abristan, competing in the 69th Cup of Harmony, will have now competed in all three tournaments in their first ever cycle. They were disappointingly knocked out of the round of 16 of the 64th Baptism of Fire, after topping their group, but struggled in World Cup qualification, finishing in 7th place in the hotly contested Group 13, despite some very promising results, especially against The Sarian, in their second outing, beating them 3-1 despite the obvious gap in ranking between the sides. They can attribute their failure to qualify to a horrific start to the qualification process, picking up just three points from their first five games, before a fight back in the second half saw them end with five victories and a draw overall.

They have made two changes from the squad that we saw in action during qualification, with young striker Jefferson replacing disgraced veteran Ismel Al Faucher, who was sent home from qualification after a drunken brawl. An injury to captain Jason Welshire means former U21 captain Coleman Rydson will look to make his first senior start for his country.

Abristan start in Group G at the Cup of Harmony alongside Nova Anglicana, Taeshan, and Kalumba. Most of these names wont be familiar to Abristani fans, other than Kalumba who were also in Group 13 of qualifying. Sadly Abristan lost to them in both fixtures, but they will be looking to take revenge here in the Cup of Harmony. Abristan are certainly underdogs, being the lowest ranked side in Group G, but rest assured that wont stop Matthew Harris and his brave players giving their all, as they have done at all times throughout this cycle. The real ones to watch in the group are Nova Anglicana, who are ranked 40th in the world, and could potentially be a team we have to overcome to reach the knockouts.
