Warfare 2017
Image

The date is January 20, 2017. In the United States, the President takes the oath of office-in North Korea, machinations brew, Europe struggles against new waves of populism, the Far Eastern nations glare daggers at each other over the South China Sea, while Africa struggles in its path towards modernity. The stage is set.
Welcome to Warfare 2017, a modern-day roleplay of politics, economics, and, of course, conflict. Take up one of the world's nations, and enshrine yourself as a power. Negotiate, intimidate, and even war on your rivals, or seek to forge alliances for the betterment of your nation-the choice is yours.
All nations are as they are today-the United Nations, NATO, the WTO-all still function, but the 21st Century may have turned out a little bit differently. From 2000 to the present, you can make changes to your nation's recent history under your rule-was Merkel ever elected? Perhaps Hussein was overthrown before his time? The decisions are yours.
So take a look at the applications, forge a nation, and joint the Great Game of politics-and politics by another means.

NS Nation Name:Almamlakat Alttaqwa
RL Country Chosen:The Islamic Nation of Iraq
Image
Name of Leader: Zakai Ibn Tahu, Diya Al Din
Appearance of Leader:Image
Biography of Leader:Zakai Tahu was born in Iraq, son of common parents. He worked a common life along the river Euphrates before he was drafted, and made to fight in the Iran-Iraq War. He displayed initiative unexpected in the force, and was raised to officer rank late in the war. After the Shia Tahu was beaten by a group of superior Sunni officers who thought he was rising too quickly, he did nothing to stand out.

He fought in the Gulf War and preserved most of his unit by realizing the hopelessness of taking the U.S. forces head-on. As Hussein continued his dictatorial actions and crimes against the Shia, he secretly was in communication with other Shia officers, creating an underground society, deeply pious and religious.

In the early 2000s Tahu saw the confrontation coming with Hussein's continued blindness, and finally sprung into action. He staged a coup against Hussein and his officers, leading his own group of revolutionaries, successfully toppling the dictator, and setting himself up in his place, bringing the Iraqi government under Islamic, Sharia Law. Hussein was hung in the center of Baghdad.

Tahu knew that the West would soon take action against his revolution, and preemptively opened the country fully to UN inspectors for WMDs, cutting off that excuse for invasion, and preventing Iraq from facing the United States in conflict. As he ordered the new government around him, he cut off a small northern portion of the country, ceding it to the Kurds in an effort to further ingratiate himself with the West, while his government took action to relocate the Kurds there, including heavy taxation on those remaining.

Tahu completely overhauled the military in massive purges, and began to re-order it along Western lines. He was fully willing to allow foreigners access to Iraqi oil as they sent in military advisers and equipment, and he managed to form very close ties with Russia. By integrating mercenaries into the army as NCOs, he stirred up some controversy but helped to transform the force away from the pathetic levels of competency that Arab militaries usually displayed.

Domestically, Islamic law was enforced, and the Shia majority escaped their prosecution. Many Sunnis now faced increased taxation and social disfavor, but he did not take the kind of harsh action against them that Hussein had to the Shia.

Religious similarities led to better relations with Iraq over the coming years, and included military cooperation, with some Iranians immigrating and taking up positions in his armed forces, and trade of forbidden technology as Iraq slowly began a nuclear program.

Tahu's greatest success was the annexation of Kuwait, something Hussein had failed at. It took careful years of organization, but he successfully pulled off a false flag operation on the border after a manufactured crisis. Iraqi forces counterattacked immediately, and overran the country so swiftly, operating under rigid micromanaged battle plans, that there was no time for the rest of the world to react, as the territory was secured, in what was a response against an attack. Many Sunni fled to Saudi Arabia, and in a Russia-aided sham election, Kuwait voted to rejoin Iraq. Russia on the Security Council vetoed action against Iraq, and the territory was integrated.

Tahu in his purges surrounded himself with loyal men, and foreign experts, but has been slowly replacing the later with native Iraqis as he attempts to develop the nation.

History of Nation (2000-2017):Ever since the overthrow of Hussein, Iraq changed dramatically. Unlike the secular Hussein, the new government enforced Sharia law across the country. In other areas though, Iraq developed. In addition to the civil service reform, attempts were made to slowly begin to diversify the nation's economy, relying on Russian backing, and slowly becoming self-sustaining, along with infrastructure investment with the new taxes. The Iraqi nuclear energy program is still underground, and is years from full enrichment. Western economic laws were slowly passed, including worker protection and union laws, with the nation slowly modernizing. The decrease in oil prices has hurt the country, but the pain has been lessened by the increased diversification of the country. Modern Iraq is currently looking to possibly take advantage of the civil war in Syria to expand their territory, and use its restructured military.

If you're serious about the time you're putting up the IC, then I'm joining.

Reserving Syria.

Also, Iraq, are you gonna become a daily headache for Assad?
Pro: Trump, Assad, Putin, guns, death penalty, Israel, religion, chocolate, me
Anti: Obama, Clinton, Stalin, Hitler, Communism, ISIS, gay marriage, stupid people, drugs, FSA

This 10,000 [insert random thing here] genocide thing is a meme, right?

At the very least I'll post the IC and then add in the introductory paragraph but I'll probably do it all at once.

NS Nation Name: Erutenia
RL Country Chosen: United Bolivarian Federation of Colombia (Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador and Peru)
Name of Leader: Ricardo Verde Cardona
Appearance of Leader: Image
Biography of Leader: Was born in Merida in the 5 of January of 1987. He was a Mayor in Venezuelan Armed Forces and leader of the armed arm of his party, slowly rised from the ranks of his party and then was given the title of President because his predecessor retired from the presidency due to health problems (the predecessor is fine now). Today Colombia is very criticized because the opposition is removed in a brutal way and the possible arranged elections.
History of Nation: The History of the UBFC goes from the elections from 1999 in Venezuela, instead of a victory for Hugo Chavez and his party (leftists), the victory goes to the rightists. Just like OTL, the new government makes a new constitution and expands all across of South America their version of Bolivarianism. And instead of a economic and political crisis for the new government, with money and speeches the United Bolivarian Federation of Colombia is formed. Their economy rises and the military becomes one of the most strongest of Latin America, but the Bolivarian government it's not satisfied...
RP History or Example: Ask to this beautiful people.
